mission statement

Women’s Lit is foremost a bookstore or anthology that firmly and intently sells explicitly female authored books to grant the proper attention to the female authors who have been silenced from history so that our patrons can derive from our collected works. Far more books by men are reviewed than by women, and many women that were published had to hide their identities, adopting male pen names in order to combat sexism and prejudice in the 19th century. Back when some women put out critically praised works is was under the guise of a male name because “the literary world wasn’t a place for women.” Thanks to the bold and brave women who wrote books openly, now there is a thriving assortment of women’s works worldwide. Female voices are asked to be reserved but we believe that women have something to say and they deserve to be loud and heard by society. There is another feature of the Women’s Lit space that allows for women to come together. It is a rhetorical community in which to converse, foster fellowship, host weekly book club and debate club, support one another, to articulate our feminist goals, ideas, activism, and visions that affect women as a class in their personal lives and professional lives. Why is bringing women together and having female only spaces important, profitable and beneficial? Because women endure more than we notice at times, and the structural pressure put on us means to keep us down. Females need a space that is apart from men to organize for their interests that are candidly

different from men’s. When the working day is done, girls just want a break from the stress of men. Women want to be included and involved in this space because some want to go out without having to dress up and do make-up and then consequently be concerned about what men may think. In addition, women would confidently go alone to such places because they would be and feel less insecure and feel safe to speak freely and honestly surrounded by women. One of the reasons women don’t go out by themselves is because they don’t have a companion which directly coincides with feeling unsafe. Women’s Lit solves those problems that many women relate to. The space empowers women to speak about their lived experience and provides a strong structure of support. Some women do not have a female relationship within their families and friends that is honest and pure. Women’s Lit inspires the atmosphere that provides the sensibility that women do not need to compete or hide their emotions in fear of judgment. The continued weekly gatherings manifests a support structure that can grow and benefit the members as they keep coming back.

promotion plan

Women’s Lit will have storefronts that do not only sell books written by female authors. There will be a membership that is paid for monthly and includes the opportunity to confide in the weekly meetings that are held at Women’s Lit. Membership doesn’t stop with the ability to partake in casual feminist discussion and personal confessions about the workplace and family, but if a woman wishes to, may join the Women’s Lit Debate Club, and the Women’s Lit Book Club. These separate chapters carry separate additional fees. The Women’s Lit Debate Club is a rhetorical meeting for verbal feminist theory discourse. From examining politics to the battle lines between liberal and radical feminist foundations. The Women’s Lit Book Club is a way to explore newer and older literature and review the characters, setting, plot, conflicts, resolutions, messages, and symbolisms within the written works. Women come together weekly to weigh in on what they’ve read and connect on the monthly book. Women’s Lit will promote its business with the logo on its products, as well as street posters, and bus shelters. Employees will wear shirts with the logo on them. .
