A word from the Gaffer

JOBI McANUFF BARROW

“That was an important win particularly after the disappointment of Tuesday in terms of letting the lead slip twice. The message was we have to move on quickly. I felt that the performance, overall, against Barrow, was a good one.”

CLEAN SHEET #18

“It’s important to us. I’ve wanted to make sure that is a big part of our play, home and away. I want us to have pride in that. We want to go out and play good football, of course we do. Ultimately, we have to stop the ball going in at the other end. When we do that, it gives us a great platform to go and win games of football.”

CAMBRIDGE

“It’s a great game for us. They’ve set the pace this season. We were really disappointed with our defeat to them earlier in the season, in a game we felt we should have won. From that point of view, we go into it full of confidence after our result against Barrow. We want these games. They’re all big games between now and the end of the season. From our point of view, playing against a side at the top of the table gives us a chance to show what we’re about and our improvement. It’s a good chance to try and knock them off their pedestal.”

“WE HAVE TO STOP THE BALL GOING IN AT THE OTHER END. WHEN WE DO THAT, IT GIVES US A GREAT PLATFORM TO GO AND WIN GAMES”

Captain’s column

CRAIG CLAY BARROW

“I think we have got in the habit of getting the job done. We need to get results. We were solid at the back. In the first-half we held onto the ball in our half a little too much, but in the second-half we turned it up a notch and won the game. You need goals from all over the pitch. It was good to see Happs scoring and a Turls assist. Kempy has a goal in him. It’s a positive to be firing from different positions.”

CAMBRIDGE

“They’re top so of course we respect them but at the same time we know we have players that can go and win games against any team. We’re up for it. It means just as much to us as it does for Cambridge. I’m sure it’ll be an exciting game. You never want a team to take six points from you. At their place, we were the better team in the first-half. They had that spell where they scored twice. We want to get revenge.”

STRONG SQUAD

“You need every player available. Louis Dennis has been out for a little while, but I thought he was different class against Barrow. We will need everyone in the final run of games to keep us as strong as possible.”

“WE’RE UP FOR IT. IT MEANS JUST AS MUCH TO US AS IT DOES FOR CAMBRIDGE. I’M SURE IT’LL BE AN EXCITING GAME” 07

DANNY SENDA +++++ RECENT FORM AND THE PLAY-OFFS

“Our recent form has given us an opportunity to get into those play-offs. That’s all it is, an opportunity. There is no guarantee of anything. Our form on the road has given us the confidence to go into these last four games to try and take the opportunity that we have worked hard for. Had you said at the start of the season that with four games to go we’d be in the race, I’m not sure anyone could not have taken that. We’re pleased with our recent form. We want to improve on it. We will now see if we can put another run together as that’s probably what it’s going to take.”

from the likes of Dan Happe and goals from midfield. That’s what was pleasing about the performance against Barrow. We have to make sure we’re clinical with our decisions in crucial points in the game. If we get that part right – we know we can keep clean sheets and we know we have goals in the squad. In the next four games I think it will be about what we do in-between that.”

CAMBRIDGE UNITED

“It’s a really good game to have. They’re a team up there fighting for the title. They’re not far away from confirmed promotion. That’s good for them but it’s really good for us because it means it will be a really competitive match. They know what we have at stake. They know that we will be going for them.

BARROW RESULT

“We have now got 18 clean sheets. We’re right up there for the most in the league. I spoke with the players and staff about what it takes to get to the play-offs and beyond. That is certainly built on nullifying teams and stopping them from scoring. That gives you the platform to win games and pick up points. At the other end, we have two players scoring goals in Danny Johnson and Conor Wilkinson.

It’s not a game we want to take a point from, like we could have earlier in the season. We want to go and get all three points. It’ll be two really good competitive teams that will go all out for a win.”

The thing for us is that bit inbetween. Those bonus goals

GET TO KNOW DANNY SENDA Who do you support? Tottenham Hotspur. All my family do too. Who was your football role model? Paul Gascoigne. As a young, young lad he was the one I watched. At a point he was probably the best player in the world. Best player you faced and best player you have played with? Against is Arjen Robben. I played him when he was at Chelsea. He had so much ability and caused me all kinds of problems. The best I’ve played with is Joe Cole and Darren Currie. Darren was a wonderful player who could play with both feet. I felt he had everything to play at the very top. Dream 5-a-side team? Peter Schmeichel, Rio Ferdinand, Andreas Iniesta, Xavi, Lionel Messi Who do you think will win the Euros? England. We have such a good opportunity on the back of a great World Cup. We have our games on home soil – England rarely lose at Wembley. We have such a good squad too and Gareth has created a fantastic environment. What do you like to get up to away from football? You don’t get much free time, but what I do have, I spend with my family. A film you would recommend to fans? Jerry Maguire. That’s my favourite, it’s an unbelievable film. Favourite food? I like all food! My favourite would probably be an Indian! Lamb bhuna? Go on then! HEAD COACH: MARK BONNER After taking the reins permanently in March last year, Mark Bonner has enjoyed a fantastic season at the helm of The U’s. Having worked his way up from Academy Manager, to First Team Coach and Assistant Manager, Bonner is very much a Cambridge man. And the club have been rewarded with their faith, as one of the league’s surprise packages find themselves in a great position for automatic promotion.

Thank you for supporting Barts Charity Leyton Orient Football Club and its incredible fans have shown amazing generosity, helping us through the worst of COVID-19 and making for a safer and healthier East London community in the midst of a global pandemic. You’ve truly been there for our NHS staff and patients when they’ve needed it most. We’re particularly humbled to be receiving donations from the new home kit this season, generously sponsored by former player Harry Kane. As the dedicated charity for the five Barts Health NHS hospitals – including Whipps Cross – we fund innovations in patient care, pioneering medical research and vital support for doctors and nurses. This year, our NHS workers have gone to extraordinary lengths to care for our community. And that’s why we made £500,000 rapid COVID-19 funding available during the initial peak and have since given £3m for long term programmes focused on staff wellbeing and mental health.
