IN MEMORY
A word from the Boardroom
DANNY MACKLIN
THE 2020/21 SEASON HAS BEEN AN INCREDIBLY CHALLENGING CAMPAIGN FOR EVERYONE CONNECTED WITH LEYTON ORIENT FOOTBALL CLUB. THE GLOBAL COVID-19 PANDEMIC ALTERED THE LANDSCAPE OF THE WORLD AND THE FOOTBALL PYRAMID LAST YEAR AND HAS CONTINUED TO AFFECT THE WAY WE ALL OPERATE. Sponsors, partners, and fans have been incredibly supportive and have gone above and beyond to help us and we are so grateful. I also want to take this opportunity to thank our staff. Everyone has given their absolute all to ensure we operate efficiently and productively, with their creative and professional approach to their work. One of the stand out challenges has been competing without our fans in attendance. Our home fixture against Newport was a special day that gave us a slither of hope of us getting back to normality. That is what we all want. A packed Breyer Group Stadium cheering on the O’s to three points.
We’re all confident the new season will bring us back together. We all miss that match day experience. Everyone at the club is working tirelessly to ensure that our return to E10 is better than ever before.
“EVERYONE AT THE CLUB IS WORKING TIRELESSLY TO ENSURE THAT OUR RETURN TO E10 IS BETTER THAN EVER BEFORE”
05
We want to make your experience as memorable as possible, whilst striving to provide the safest environment we can. In the coming weeks we will be able to announce exciting news regarding season tickets, new kits and much, much more. Watch this space. Finally, I want to thank you. Your support has been felt throughout the campaign even though you’ve only being able to cheer along to our live stream. With two games left to go, we will finish the season as strong as we can and take that into next year. Up the O’s! Danny Macklin, CEO

Captain’s column
CRAIG CLAY CARLISLE UNITED
“It’s about finishing the season the right way. We want to finish as high as we can. Carlisle will be similar to the match at their place a few weeks back. They’ve been the same all year. Last game was tough. The conditions were horrible and there wasn’t much football on the ground. I think we can expect similar this Saturday.”
SALFORD CITY
“We will look to go there and spoil the party if they’re in and around it. The last two games are about doing it right and getting a good couple of results to finish the season.”
A CRAZY SEASON
“It’s been such a strange season. It feels like the last two seasons have merged into one if I’m being completely honest. I’m looking forward to getting back to normal and having fans around. That’s such a big part of the game and that’s been missing.”

SOUTHEND
“Immediately after the game there was a real disappointment. I think we all knew after that game after all the effort to get into those play-offs it wasn’t possible. The fact it was against Southend made it twice as disappointing.”
CARLISLE UNITED
“They’re on a good run. They can be fairly direct, but it’s not a case of just whacking it. They have some good forward players and once they have it up the pitch, they get it down and play. They’re improved. We have to make sure we do all things necessary to get the result.”
BOUNCING BACK
“We need to make sure we do finish strong. As a player you always have something to prove. You always have to play for your club. We have two big games coming up and we don’t want to help anybody else get in those play-offs. Carlisle is our next opponent – we want to finish above them.”
16
GET TO KNOW JOBI McANUFF What football team do you support? “I support Liverpool. John Barnes was a big hero of mine growing up – he was from Jamaica like my dad. He played for the best team at the time and for England which was great for me as a young black boy seeing someone at the pinnacle of the game.” Which players inspired you when you were younger? “Barnes of course. There have been some fantastic players over the years. R9 – the original Ronaldo. He was amazing. Ronaldinho at Barcelona – I loved watching him play.” You’ve got plenty of experience in the game; who is the best player you’ve ever faced? “Lionel Messi. I was lucky enough to play against him for Jamaica in the Copa America. He is the greatest player of our era and without doubt top three of all time. I even managed to pinch his shirt at full-time!” What about teammates – who has really impressed you? “Michael Carrick was incredible. I don’t think he got the credit he deserved throughout his career. Teddy Sheringham is another from West Ham. It was brief but he really looked after himself.”
Away from football, what do you like to get up to? “Before I was Manager, I loved the media work. Away from work I always like to chill. I enjoy reading and listening to music. I’ve just started golf!” Is there a TV series you’d recommend people watch? “The Mrs and I are boxset connoisseurs. So, I can suggest a couple. Game of Thrones, Sons of Anarchy, The Wire, Sopranos. They’re all great – get on them!” Do you have a signature dish that you always make 10/10? “Well, I’m actually cooking tonight! I’m going for scallops to start and some sea bass for main!” Summer is fast approaching – it’s unlikely we’ll get to travel where we want, but if you could, where would you go? “I like going to places you can be active. I love New York. I do fancy the beach, so, I love going to Jamaica. I have a lot of family there. Dubai is another one!” Three songs to add to our Spotify playlist… Jay-Z – Encore Bob Marley – Jamming Michael Jackson – Billie Jean

ORIENT NOMINATED TWICE AT THE FOOTBALL BUSINESS AWARDS LEYTON ORIENT HAVE BEEN NOMINATED IN TWO CATEGORIES FOR THE 2021 FOOTBALL BUSINESS AWARDS. Sponsorship: Leyton Orient & Harry Kane partnership Marketing Initiative: Ultimate Quaran-Team Tournament The Football Business Awards is returning for the 9th time to recognise and reward excellence in the business of football. Following on from the ‘Leaders in Sport’ award win in the Sponsorship category, the Harry Kane shirt partnership is once again up for nomination.
The campaign saw global exposure come to the club when The O’s media team initiated a worldwide FIFA tournament of 128 teams, raising over £80k for worthy causes.
The England captain’s gesture to give back to the club was a hit commercially for the club, but gave wonderful exposure to three charities.
The tournament was won by Premier League club Wolves, whilst Leyton Orient’s Sam Sargeant faced a first round knockout to Lokomotiv Moscow.
Frontline Heroes (Bart’s Charity), Haven House Children’s Hospice and Mind, the Mental Health Charity, were selected for the club’s partners and designs finalised, who have all received proceeds of shirts sold.
Direct media appearances for the campaign was also widespread, with multiple appearances on BBC, Sky Sports, Talksport and international outlets, whilst the story generated buzz across the world.
Within the Marketing category, the club’s Ultimate Quaranteam initiative from the first lockdown has been nominated.
You can read more about the Football Business Awards here, and check out all the nominations for both categories.

E10 NEWS
A NEW DIRECTION FOR FEMALE FOOTBALL
THE CLUB IS DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE A NEW DIRECTION FOR ITS FEMALE FOOTBALL ACTIVITY FOR THE 2021/22 SEASON ONWARDS. Since 2016 the Club’s senior women’s team has been run by an external organisation and currently competes at step 4 of the FA’s Women’s Football Pyramid. However, as part of an all-encompassing strategy to develop female football in the area, the Club will be launching an Academy that in time will include age groups from under 9’s to under 18’s, mirroring the boys’ Academy. This will be supplemented by development centres, college programmes and will lead into a first-team that will compete initially at step six of the pyramid under the direct control of the Football Club. This year, in partnership with Writtle College, a programme was launched for girls over the age of 16 to study for qualifications, whilst improving their footballing skills with professional coaching from the club. The programme has been a great success so far and will be a big part of the process going forward; helping to provide a clear pathway for players. Director of Football, Martin Ling said: “This is an exciting time for the development of female football at Leyton Orient. We believe there is a huge opportunity in the local area to open doors for female players to become part of our new set-up and progress their own ambitions as footballers.
“We will be establishing key relationships with local professional and grassroots clubs and hope to make progression at all levels. Whilst we will be initially dropping down within the pyramid, for us there is a bigger long-term picture involving increased activity and opportunities for more players.” In 2015 local club KIKK United was granted permission to use the Leyton Orient WFC name and now competes at step four of the women’s pyramid under the leadership of its First Team Manager, Chris Brayford. “In our discussions with the team, we promised that we wouldn’t approach any of their players as part of the agreement of us parting ways. This was to ensure they remained as settled as possible in their set up going forwards, as well as being mindful of the fact we would be asking them to drop two divisions. We will announce details of an open trial for the new women’s team in due course, where we would welcome any of the existing players to attend should they wish.” We would like to place on record our thanks for their efforts and achievements and wish them every success for the future as an independent organisation. The Club will be announcing further information in due course, including details of trials and any other relevant activity.

IN MEMORY TERRY DIGGINES 28TH MARCH 1943 – 2ND APRIL 2021 Terry ‘Tel’ Diggines was a lifelong Orient fan devoted to the ups and downs that come with following your local team. It wouldn’t be long into a conversation before Terry was telling you all about the latest result, performance, and the hope that filled him of “this being our year!” Terry travelled up and down the country to watch the O’s during his 70+ years of supporting them and never lost his enthusiasm for the club. Indeed, even in these more difficult years, when it was permitted, Terry would get down to the ground (even sitting with the away fans once) just to watch his team. A recent trip to Wembley to watch the FA Trophy final was a day he cherished and though the result didn’t go as he’d hoped, the disappointment was softened by promotion that season back into League 2. The O’s picked up a win on the day that Terry passed and I am sure he rested safe in the knowledge that this could indeed be the O’s year! Rest in Peace Tel The Truestone Team
