Pastors Sticks to Details

Baseball is about as American as Grandma's apple pie, butforLU's assistant baseballcoach, it is alsoapart of life.
Dave Pastors loves his job. "I don't have allthe answers, butI learn as I go," he said.
Pastors has been an assistantbaseball coach for six years Priorto comingto Liberty,he worked for one year asan assistantbaseballcoach atCoastal Carolina He came to Libertyin1986withBobby Richardson, former baseball coach.
His familysparkedhis interestin baseball."I grew up withit," Pastorssaid. "My dadplayedpro, andmy older brother played pro. I can remember going toseethe PittsburghPirates playwhen Iwasonlyfiveyears old I was born into baseball."
Coaching is not alwayseasyfor Pastors, however. "The hardest part of coaching is being truthful with the player," he said "Most of our guys have a love for the game, and it is difficultto tellthem that they don't have the abilityto play on our team."
Pastors looks to the Lord for his future. "I'll go wherethe Lord directs me," he said. "Aslong as Iam here, I would like for the baseball team to competenationallyand beable to share Christ withour contacts."
Pastors'position carriesa lotof responsibilities. "I havea longlistofdetailsthatIstickto eachyear," he said. "Someof the main things that Idoare recruiting, on-thefield coaching, paperwork withthe budget, and making lodging arrangements."
He alsoputstheplayersinNCAA summerleagues. Thishelpsthem keep in shapeoverthe summer.
