Dear reader, It is with an immense sense of both pride and humility at this first edition, that we present to you the Luštica Bay Life, a carefree, lighthearted and deeply human destination journal. Speaking to the remarkably successful year behind us, it is also a demonstration of our ever-expanding community, where so many have found a new home, new routines, and new connections – and their new place to belong. The idea to make this personalized and wholesome insight into the world of Luštica came as naturally and organically as its creation. The life of the community that we are building is a vibrant one, filled with dayto-day activities and seemingly ordinary moments. The contents of this account serve to give you a glimpse into the spirit fostered by the individuals who give this inimitable project its heartbeat, depicting the life lived on this charming peninsula. As is the case with any tale worth telling, it is our intention to engage you in our process and ensure that there is, albeit tacit, a dialogue between all those looking to find their place in our sanctuary. Hopefully, you will find yourselves immersed in the beauty of this proposition and the narratives of our team of passionate professionals, eager to keep reinventing our settlement. Finally, this journal is and will continue to be, a testament. To our team, to our destination, to an unwavering commitment to doing more, being better and staying humble in the process. To all of you, who keeps us inspired, motivated and afloat. To all, we wish a vibrant holiday season, in hopes that the new 2022 will bring, above all, prosperity, joy and peace. LUŠTICA PENINSULA:

A fairy-tale on land and sea

With the Adriatic Sea brushing over its land from three sides, the Luštica peninsula is a gem blissfully nestled in its surroundings. As a natural protective arch of the Bay of Kotor, the Luštica peninsula divides the tucked in beaches of the Boka Bay, and the seemingly rough nature of the open sea.

Others are of the opinion that it was named after the arcs (luk) of many forests and olive groves. However, the most popular assumption is that the name comes from the Latin word la lucra or la

and prosciutto and, of course, olives. On the Luštica peninsula, the produced prosciutto is of a different aroma; dried near the sea, on a smoke-free fire, ignited by sweet olive wood, plantain, or laurel. Additionally, the sea winds reach the meat, allowing it to easily absorb the sea salt and iodine, the smell of laurel and rosemary, giving it a unique taste and aroma. Montenegro’s local cheese has its own uniqueness; the cheese from Luštica bears the stamp of the climate in which it is made, first by air drying it, and then marinating it in vegetable and olive oil. The cheese is stored

One of the biggest attractions of the peninsula are its very versatile beaches, varying from small and pebbled to vast and sandy. Numerous beaches and coves of the peninsula can be accessed from both the mainland and the sea. These three fortresses, with their majestic architecture, formed the fortification system Primorska Fortress of Boka, the second most important military base of Austro-Hungary on the Adriatic Coast. Not far away from there, we find cape Veslo, which can be reached by a country road and is an ideal dive for underwater enthusiasts. Moreover, visitors can enjoy their time in the famous Blue Grotto, one of the most picturesque caves in Montenegro. The peninsula offers tranquil beaches with local taverns, providing an unforgettable atmosphere - Blue Horizons, Oblatno, Dobreč, Bigova and Velja Špila, located in the Bay of Trašte.

a 2-hour drive from Luštica Bay, the Piva region is well connected to the coast via the local highway Risan – Nikšić – Žabljak, one of the best and sparingly used roads in the country! If you have ever been to Montenegro during the summer season, you probably noted that the traffic can be very dense, rendering short day trips somewhat tiring. That same 2-hour drive can be extended allowing you to take in all the scenery. The stunning views will, undoubtedly, make you want to stop on every vantage point and marvel at the sights before your eyes! The Western Montenegro terrain is, in much, affected by the latest glacial erosion, and is frequently called the Stone Sea due to the looks of its vast, moulded karst with high mountains and valleys, and a variety of bio-communities.

P LUŽ I N E –

A Portrait of Switzerland

IN MONTENEGRO

The heart of the Piva region is the small town of Plužine. Descending towards Plužine from the main road, the visual landscape is fascinating! Resembling a small, picturesque Swiss village lost in the mountains of a proud and untamed Montenegro. Observing it from a distance in all its natural abundance, it is difficult to imagine that the turquoise Piva Lake is actually man-made! The lake is 45 km long, covering a surface area of 12,5 square kilometres. It was formed in 1976, with the aim of generating electricity from the hydro sources and potentials of the mountainous rivers of Montenegro. The city was submerged and rebuilt at the shores of the new Piva Lake. This charming settlement was promptly identified as a touristic attraction; albeit artificial, it was soon clear that the Piva Lake was the best thing that happened to this town. In the former town of Plužine, a very famous Orthodox temple was located – Piva Monastery. In the most precise manner, it was relocated to another spot, stone by stone, at the entrance of this small mountain town before the lake was formed, and has been preserved in its authentic state. As the formation of the lake is relatively recent, we can still encounter senior citizens of Plužine, who often reminisce about the charm of the former town.

MONTENEGRO GUIDE

EXPLORING Piva Town of Plužine in not the only thing on the menu in the Piva region. Take some time to be in the nature, and go back home feeling relaxed and refreshed, letting what you absorbed in the outdoors heal you. When in Piva, we recommend you go on a hiking quest to discover the heart-shaped Trnovačko lake; the trip requires a degree of physical fitness as the hike takes you through the mountains. The lake is mostly visited by true nature lovers, mountaineers, alpinists and adventurers who love the thrill of getting to the finish line. We strongly recommend you go on this quest with professional tour guides, who can guide you safely through the forests, mountain peaks, and off the beaten paths. Piva’s villages and katuns are, indeed, a remarkable story. In every village, you will be welcomed by hosts who live there year round. Observing the highlanders’ way of life represents a humble return to the primal way of functioning and is the definition of a different and healthy approach to living. People work in the fields, mow the meadows, prepare hay for the cattle graze them in the summer, producing food in their households. A depiction of life in an incomparably more peaceful society that knows how to appreciate the present moment.

There are more than 200 types of mushrooms, many of which edible. Flora treasures consist of white and black pine, beech, fir, maple, and spruce forests. It is not just the coast, it is the mountains of Montenegro that will take your breath away. Unconquered, untouched, undiscovered. Recharge your soul THIS WINTER AT LU ŠT I C A B AY

In November, we had the pleasure of hosting Jelena Karakash, editor in chief at Buro247 from Belgrade, Serbia and her colleague Iva Chuljak, a columnist. For both, the allure of living by the sea during the wintertime came as a surprise, inspiring them to create content for their readers. Read on to hear Jelena’s impressions and recommendations!

“There is a date which we look forward to all year, secretly and eagerly crossing off the days in the calendar, until it comes knocking. As it approaches, the excitement multiplies! Naturally, I am talking about the moment when the eyes meet the open sea horizon, the mighty sea in all its magnificence! Pupils dilate, palms sweat, while the smell of salty air wafts through open windows. It was exciting both when I was a child, and it is equally electrifying now, decades later. There is something special about the sea that removes all my doubt and fear, welcoming a moment where everything seems fine, and life is as is, in the now. Surrendering to this moment becomes the sole mission. What have I learned over the years; you may ask? To bottle that magical feeling, pack it with me and carry that cloud of memories throughout the year, until I get to relive it again. I am somewhat wiser now, though. I stretch the summer moments to the absolute maximum, combining days off and business trips, vacations and holidays, grabbing every chance I get to run to the seashore. Time and again, the euphoria takes over and all worries recede, as I fly over the sea on my way to reach the coast one more time. However, the truth is and I discovered this only recently - living by the sea during the off season is unmatchable. Theoretically, I did experience the off-season sea during May and in September but, when I first got exposed to what November on the coast has to offer, I found a new religion. Days until the summer calendar became redundant because now, I know that the sea will nourish my soul and body, regardless of the part of the year. A few weeks ago, I was in Luštica Bay for the first time, while the wind was blowing, the waves were crashing, and the rain was roaring. Temperature? Low. Colour? All shades of grey. Mood? Perfect! You don’t have to take my word for it, just test this ambience for yourself, I guarantee that you will fall in love with it.

That rhythmic sound clears the low energy and allows me to finally unpack the emotional baggage, that I persistently carry with me. When I get tired of that role, I go 25 steps down to the marina promenade, where a lot of charming restaurants, bars and wineries are proposing different aromas. For instance, Finestra Winery is the right place to start the wine path of Montenegro. Restaurants Kiki’s and Villa Cesare prepare great Italian dishes, playing bravely with ingredients and recipes, while delicious seafood is served at 21 Bistro and Asian

in this very place, merely after a few days of visiting as a tourist. The perfect location, several beautiful beaches, and subtle content to be enjoyed, are some of the reasons which inspired them to ultimately become residents of Luštica Bay. I admit that I am jealous of their courage and prompt decision making. At Luštica Bay, you will instantly start thinking that anything is possible and that everything is okay. Here, optimism is served in cocktail glasses, hypnotising you throughout.

“Some days, I dreamt of being a potent heroine, standing on the terrace in my nightgown and staring at the wild sea.”

If you are one of those dynamic people, this place will be able to meet your workaholic criteria too. Firstly, there is The Chedi Hotel and investors plan to open another 6 hotels with similar standards, and facilities that satisfy even the most demanding of us. A chic and multifunctional Lobby Bar, with a patisserie at the terrace overlooking the marina and a weekly movie screening for the whole family, render it your perfect day spot. Hotel The Chedi features an outstanding spa, known for its Balinese massage offer. And the list does not end here, as there is a golf simulator at the hotel where you can practice this game and prepare for the first 18-holes golf course in Montenegro, which will be located right here, in the charming sanctuary of Luštica Bay. Also, on request, a smart-mirror Fittar is available with built-in exercise programs, providing a type of virtual personal trainer, in your hotel room. Finally, my warm recommendation is to put a wind jacket on and explore the Luštica coast, the fragrant vegetation, the indigenous species. Go and visit organic farms and petite wineries, breathe deeply, carrying the fragrance of the herbs in your nostrils. Toast with homemade drinks, learn about the tradition of the eversurprising Luštica peninsula. Sit on the dock with your thoughts, forgetting deadlines and promises. Listen to the rain and get into its rhythm as you meditate. When the time comes to go home, simply book a new ticket instead of promising to come back someday. Over the years, I realised that no one will take care of your soul better than you can and should, and it is clear that the stay at Luštica Bay returned mine to its factory settings. Well, see you soon, Luštica Bay!”

Small talk with the columnist: DO PEOPLE M A K E P L AC E S , OR IS IT THE OTHER WAY A RO U N D?

In November, our team had the pleasure of hosting Buro247 from Belgrade, Serbia. Iva Chuljak, the columnist, and Jelena Karakas, editor in chief, enjoyed our Maslina apartments, testing the November weather and marvelling at the stormy sea. Following her visit, Iva Chuljak wrote an impressive article for the Buro247 portal, which we couldn’t resist sharing with our magazine readers. Join us while we sail through Iva’s impressions from a stormy autumn weekend. Get cosy, grab a glass of your favourite drink and enjoy this little insight.

LB: What does the sea represent to you? Iva: When I was in high school, after one summer holiday spent on the coast, I told my parents that I was going to marry a Dalmatian guy. When they asked why, I replied – so that I could hear that sweet talk every day and be close to the sea all year round. As time passed and I grew up, I experienced and lived through enough failed and sad Dalmatian romances, gave up on the idea of marrying anyone, and as my career advanced, I realised that my dreams should not be fulfilled by a husband. The sea, however, remained the object of my worship. LB: Still, you live and work in a big continental city. How does that feel like? Iva: Recently, one Tuesday, I found myself in a typical Belgrade traffic jam. It is five in the afternoon, and it is raining. There are three

They are breaking boundaries and leading multi-cultural teams; they are ahead of time in design creativity, while cultivating Montenegrin history and ensuring that the identity of our town is never lost. Marija Pantović is the Senior Design Manager who has grown with the design team ever since she joined in 2015; she is an analytical team player, working strategically in alignment with the needs of the cross-functional stakeholders. Her dedication, sense of ownership, and warmth is why she is one of the true ambassadors of the construction team and the project. 1.Authenticity and sustainability are at the core of what Luštica Bay does – how is this reflected in the initial design process? We are building a town that is deeply rooted in and connected to Montenegrin culture; that alone is one of the key authentic elements. A self-sustainable and carefully planned town that is meticulously developed by a team of experts working collectively each step of the way. Luštica Bay has a bona fide approach to master planning, as we work on delivering all the essential needs for our residents. Every design detail reflects the richness of Montenegrin heritage, inspired by traditional fishermen villages and implemented with aesthetic functionality. Sustainability is at the root of the initial phases of master planning and continues to be reflected as we carefully study the building orientation in relation to climate aspects, while integrating the structures in the intricate terrain and nature, low density, building scale and forms, traffic solutions, archaeological sites preservations, and so on. We further base our design specifications on energy efficiency through the use of native plant species, locally sourced materials, waste treatment, smart irrigation systems, and renewable energy resources. Our environmental awareness and commitment to sustainability go beyond the aesthetic principles; they are weaved and integrated in every element of design, as we opt for valuable bioclimatic techniques and energy saving methods, including an organic approach to site planning, capitalizing on natural light, and cross-ventilation to state just a few examples.

We are driven by an equation that we are constantly working on balancing the clients’ needs, aesthetic functionality, Montenegrin heritage, and the inspiration we want to leave behind and pave forward. To put it simply, we are not trying to create and design buildings, we are creating experiences, setting the base for people to make lives and nurture homes; we are the building blocks for communities to connect in a place they would fall in love with and belong to. Dunja Rezić is the Design Manager heading the Golf Residences project – the first of its kind in the whole region. She and her team are the minds behind the architectural identity and the language of the project, from interior to exterior. She translates the conceptual designs to architectural applications, using eco-friendly and sustainably sourced materials while implementing Montenegrin design elements and motifs. 1.The Golf Residences have been your main focus of work in the rising town; how would you say they stand out, what makes them the unique development that they are? Given its location, the neighbourhood is,almost literally, a completely elevated experience of its own. All residences overlook the spectacular golf course and have a unique view of the stunning Trašte Bay. With respect to the surrounding lush greenery, we steered away from designing any separators blocking the open space; there are almost no visible architectural lines between indoor and outdoor spaces, so the result is a canvas of nature’s best work, experienced from one’s home. The designs are a reflection of Montenegro’s traditional coastal houses, but with modern finetuning; the authenticity of our culture is seen and told in design elements like the arches, colonnade, guvno, and Mediterranean gable rooftops. 2.How is the development of the Golf area and residences keeping with the environmental promise of Luštica Bay? The Golf Residences are low density units with two or three built stories; they are designed to follow the natural existing slopes and effortlessly merge into the surrounding landscape, becoming a seamless extension of the nature they are set amidst. The addition of green roofs, emphasis on the cross ventilation, and the outsourcing of only local Luštica stone

and wood as building material, all make the design ideally adhering to the commitment of maintaining the eco-friendly infrastructure. The whole of the Golf area with its 18 holes, 13 residential phases, golf hotel, and club is developed within a maximum of 6% of the land, making it an energy-efficient neighborhood.

5.What makes you proud of your work? We have been seeing a decline in aesthetic architecture along with a neglect for ethics in the industry; many architects have been turning a blind eye as they take part in projects that have negative impacts on our cities and the surrounding nature. Our profession should entail

during the initial design phases of all villas and apartments, with a focus on the clients’ experience within their living space. I would say that one of the most significant features is the indoor to outdoor horizontal living-type space accentuating the breath-taking views. Another notable aspect would be the earthy and warm colour hues across all interior that make the space more “homey”; from natural wooden floors and stone walls to veneered wardrobes and doors. Complimenting the design aspect and giving it an essential final touch, are the top-notch quality and high-end brands for fit-outs, kitchens, and appliances, giving a refined edge to all homes. 4.How is your team maintaining the incredible teamwork for which they are known? From inception of the idea to the implementation, you all seem to be in perfect synergy; can you tell us about the personal qualities that make it all happen? I would say this specific project gathered a medley of amazing young experts with a great spirit, strong motivation, a true sense of ownership and creativity. There are no egos here, only dedication and a sense of humor, which definitely helps to maintain the great energy within the team.

You will always meet Iva Petković on the field - at the construction sites of Centrale and Iris Residences. Apart from being the architectural ambassador for both projects, Iva is also an ambassador of good energy amongst her colleagues. Iva has only recently joined the team; she is managing two construction sites and is always working in synergy with the original vision. 1.You are heading a team that is building a new neighbourhood in Luštica Bay; from a design perspective, how do you feel Centrale being the nucleus of the town? Each neighbourhood in Luštica Bay utilizes the space it is built within and offers different values for homeowners; Centrale is like the connecting glue creating a bond between the golf and marina village. It also comes as a seamless continuation of the city core of Radovići. Its central location gives the development an additional edge, offering a beautiful mix of homey yet contemporary propositions. Centrale is synonymous with convenience, as it encompasses all the essential facilities and a lively ‘city feel’, paired with its connection to the old forest and the greenery ideal for relaxation and recreation. In short, the neighbourhood becomes a unique blend of nature’s optimal encounter with authentic architecture. 2.In Luštica bay, we reflect the art of living in everything we do, and we say it’s the place where neighbours become friends; how is that implemented in terms of design and architectural layouts? The coexistence of natural and built environments is a unique value in Centrale; each cluster within the complex builds on the humans’ natural need for social interaction through its communal spaces, while still maintaining the need for privacy of each home.

We concluded our series of conversations with Vanja Ivanović, Development Management Coordinator in Master Planning; the one who knows every detail of Luštica Bay’s future and what it is intended to become over the next decades.

1.From your perspective, what are the most exciting parts of the master plan for the coming years? Every part of our master plan is an exciting story in itself and presents a part of the bigger picture that I think of as a colorful puzzle – the urban community of Luštica Bay. If I would have to choose a personal favorite to look forward to, it would be the Golf zone. This area is planned to become a unique offering on a regional scale; it will be home to a golf hotel, club, and residential buildings nestled amidst an 18-hole golf course, all built with the low- density approach, preserving the beauty 13

of nature and the landscape with splendid 14

communities – what is Luštica Bay under all the infrastructure?

Q

Maintaining the identity of our culture is at the heart of the initial master planning, and the only way to make that happen is by fully understanding and appreciating the wild nature and rich history of the unique location. Luštica Bay is all about the unique spirit, confident authenticity, and relaxing atmosphere; it is already a place where people return to and call home.

1. Olivia, what’s important to you as an artist? Does the environment you live in affect your work? Years ago, before there was anything built around here, I used to arrive at the Bay by boat when it was just wild untouched nature. When I heard the news about the development of a new resort town in the making, my first reaction was one of absolute devastation, thinking the bay will be taken over by construction. I can see how it’s sustainably growing with respect to its surrounding nature; I like the communal village feel it has and the Mediterranean green surroundings, which I can’t get enough of, always wishing to see more. I also admire their use of natural stones in building sidewalks and open parks. The quality of construction and the environmental care that comes with it is quite notable as well. As an artist, I enjoy and appreciate overwhelmingly beautiful surroundings that develop in harmony with mother nature’s proportions. I do not think I can ever leave the Mediterranean Sea; I know that if I lived farther away from the sea in a place with less natural light, I would simply feel sad.

3. When you take your boat out, how do you spend your day at sea? We usually love to start with an early morning swim in the Blue Grotto, one of the biggest and most picturesque caves I have ever seen. It is always an exciting experience, especially when we have new guests exploring the country and its coast for the first time. Mamula Island is quite a pristine visit, away from the crowded summer season. We also like to visit Perast - a tiny, idyllic village with jaw-dropping views and the picturesque islet of Our Lady of the Rocks, as the crowning point. 4. What keeps you coming back to Luštica Bay? How has it become your true place of belonging ? The simplicity, peacefulness, and tranquillity. The warm and friendly community. The fact that I can daily opt between swimming in the pool or enjoying the sea; wherever my strolls take me, ice-cream stops are always a few seconds away! You have a boat, a home and a job in Luštica Bay; what makes the destination a favourable place to live and work? When I was thinking about the integration of Scotch Whisky Investments (SWI) in relation to Montenegro and how both could work in synergy, a clear vision came to light; we offer an exclusive product that should naturally be available in an exclusive destination. value of whisky as a commodity. The peculiarity of whisky is that the market is based on all meridians and the production capacities are quite scarce, resulting in a huge demand and a limited production. We focus on whisky older than 25 years, accounting for only 0.7% of the total whisky production. Also, when you drink one bottle of Single Malt over the age of 25, the other automatically increases in value. That is why in the last 10 years, the value of whisky increased by over 580%, compared to the other products we mentioned, which have a recorded growth between 100 and 200%.

At SWI, we are very proud to have achieved results that have made a notable difference in alternative investments worldwide. One bottle owner from our vault made a profit that exceeded several hundred percent. When it comes to asset management contracts, our clients’ portfolio ranges from a growth of 8% and could reach anywhere between 15% and 16% annually. 5. What is your favourite single malt and how would you describe its taste? Scotch single malt whisky is simply magical. The aromatic favours combined with its colour is impossible to find in any other drink. It is all about personal taste, but if we are talking about my personal favourite, it would be the Mortlach from 1954, or Glenlivet from 1952 that aged 65 years in a barrel; imagine that! I also enjoy less mature and more affordable whiskies, such as the Benromach of 41 years or Benromach of 15 years, which taste sublime and are of very good quality. passed down to generations. Back in the 90s, Kiki used to live in the downtown area of Egypt’s first allyear-round resort town: El Gouna, Orascom’s flagship resort town. It was just another one of her evenings spent cooking with love, when she got a call from the man who revived El Gouna, wondering why he was never invited to try her famed food. Their encounter brought some unexpected but exciting novelties for Kiki: a venue for her to start her own restaurant with a condition to have the place fully functional in two weeks, just in time for one of Egypt’s highest holiday seasons called Eid Al Fitr. Kiki took on the challenge, worked her magic, turned her passion to a full-on restaurant, run solely by her! Since then, her place – Kiki’s – was the community’s hangout; set on top of El Gouna’s museum building, with spacious terraces and stunning

“It was the first time in Egypt to have a young girl in an evening dress talking to guests about the very limited menu, wearing her apron to cook in an open-view kitchen and come back to serve all the food. It was a small community at the time, all guests knew each other. The night would start with a sit-down dining atmosphere and then the music would pick up and people would spend the evening having after-dinner drinks until late at night and quite often until the morning hours.” At the time, Kiki’s handwritten menu had only a few types of pasta dishes, bruschetta, one meat and one fish dish. Back then, it was quite the challenge for Kiki to find all the ingredients she needed and even had to drive to the city of Hurghada (about 45 minutes away) to get some tomatoes! “My first gift ever in celebration was a stainless-steel slicing machine; before that I had to slice all cold cut bulks using a knife.” The charming Kiki Scolari is now running Luštica Bay’s Kiki’s restaurant and Bar, turning what was only a tiny kitchen with a lot of aromas and flavors, into a full-on brand, with a team bringing together some of Italy’s best recipes to the whimsical Montenegrin coast. We asked her what makes Kiki’s at Luštica Bay such a special dining sanctuary: “I believe the uniqueness of Kiki’s Luštica is in its breath-taking location and the beautiful décor. It is named after the memorable place that always offered personalized and warm hospitality to owners, residents, and walk-in guests in Orascom’s first project, El Gouna. Tiramisu by Kiki

As an absolute star in the kitchen and a charm to be around and speak to, Kiki has decided to share with her epic Tiramisu recipe with our readers: INGREDIENTS (serving six people) -300g of Mascarpone -3 eggs -3 tablespoons of sugar (more, if you like it sweeter) -Ladyfinger biscuits

-Coffee

PREPARATION Brew the coffee, either mocca or a long espresso. The quantity will vary depending on the number of portions you are planning to prepare. Add sugar and let it cool. Separate the egg yolks from the whites. In a bowl, hand mix (always better by hand so you would pour your passion and love into the process), the egg yolks and sugar until light yellow and creamy. The sugar should be completely blended in. In a separate bowl, whip the egg whites until very firm. With your hand, add the mascarpone with a whisk to the egg yolk/sugar cream, until

completely smooth. With a wooden spoon (or silicone spatula), slowly add the whipped egg white to the egg and mascarpone cream, then cover with cling film. Pour the coffee on the Ladyfingers biscuits, once soaked, pour your Mascarpone super airy and soft cream on top. Sprinkle with cacao, use a sieve, cover with cling film and refrigerate at least 45 minutes before serving.

*For every 100 g of Mascarpone, use one egg and one tablespoon of sugar.

You can store your Tiramisu for a few days in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

Although they are not meant to offer traditional Montenegrin cuisine, the team at Kiki’s tries to serve dishes that are an authentic representation of the coast; their Polenta gratin with cheeses and wild mushrooms is, for instance, one of her mentioned favorites. In case you decide to make your way to Kiki’s while in Luštica Bay, make sure to ask for her recommendations and try one of our own personal favorites: the ‘Montenegrin starter’.

THE MAN BEHIND T H E C H E D I ’S E C L E C T I C F L AVO U R S A few months ago, Luštica Bay became home to one of its newest team members – The Chedi’s Executive Chef, Željko Knezović. Born in a small town in Bosnia and Herzegovina, lovingly overwhelmed with his mother’s cooking aromas, Željko has developed a genuine appreciation for food and its immense diversity. Enthusiastic about his new role, Željko is determined to cook up a gastronomic storm in this part of Montenegro. The lines that follow offer a glimpse into the inspiration that fuels Knezović’s cooking process and highlight what makes The Chedi’s recipes truly timeless and unique.

about your personal culinary path and what motivated you to come to Luštica Bay, even Montenegro? When I think about my childhood, I can not help but chuckle with glee when I remember all the wonderful times I have had cooking with my mother, Zora. Although she might say I was a natural from the beginning, I assure you that my attempts were not always successful. With her unwavering patience, she thought me that the truly entertaining part about cooking was the process itself. With my love for food growing during my formation years, I decided to attend culinary school in Bosnia and Herzegovina and quickly after moved to Croatia, where I was fortunate enough to work with two Michelin stars chefs. The Adriatic coast was always very close to my heart, so after spending some time in Croatia, I decided to explore Montenegro and its gastro scene. Although, many typical Montenegrin dishes deserve to be on the fine dining menu, I would opt for “cicvara” - braised cornflour with “kajmak” (salted and then squeezed fresh cream) and greaves, as we call

In addition to Contemporary Mediterranean cuisine, do you offer some more flavours? Yes, as a brand running Asian philosophy since its founding, The Chedi has influenced us to open a restaurant with an Asian theme. Chinese Chef Fugang joined the team from our sister hotel Rotana in Salalah, Oman to help us accomplish this project and offer our guests a touch of Asia. At our The Lobby and Pool Bar, we offer top-quality sushi and sashimi, made daily of fresh ingredients.

He has been working worldwide (the Caribbean, the Americas, Asia, and Europe) and came to Montenegro about six years ago. He enchants hotel guests daily with his unusual cake-making techniques and an eruption of flavors, colors, and shapes using the highest quality ingredients, such as Callebaut chocolate and Madagascar vanilla. An idyllic combination of berries from the northern parts of Montenegro and one of the most authentic symbols of Montenegro, its Vranac wine.

The Living room is the centre of our home and, as such, needs to be functional and relaxing, allowing our mind to just rest; it is also the space where we gather and interact with our loved ones, possibly sharing a drink or two. Quite often, the living room defines the character of our home and reflects particular elements of our personality. Wouldn’t you agree? For this issue, I have chosen a theme that is sleek, neutral looking, with furniture that blends well with the space using minimal ornaments but still subtly allowing us to play with textures.

Your choice of cushions could either blend in and match with the couch, or add a bit of a loud contrast. I used comfortable & cozy armchairs to accentuate the general feeling of confident comfort through the use of beige color that is easy on the eye and instils calmness. If you prefer to feel more warmth in the room, adding wood is always an easy win. Wooden sculptured coffee tables and a matching TV console are a must have and an easy way to infuse warmness into any interior space. Carpet selection depends on the overall furniture scheme and your particular vision, but also on the type of flooring you have. For warm floor colours, I would throw in an effortless beige, brown or such earthy hues.

Back in the day, it was downright unacceptable for women to wear pants, and in the very rare occasions they did, it would be out of public view. It was not until the 20th century, that this notion of women wearing pants became socially acceptable; be it for practicality and comfort, or as a way of promoting women’s rights and freedom of choice.

What’s on for Kids? As an all-year-round destination, Luštica Bay aims to provide exciting activities for every family member. Inspired by Frank Baum’s notion: “In this world, there is nothing so beautiful as a happy child”, Luštica Bay provides wholesome content for the little ones, be it in the Playroom, Kids Club, or outside - all events are dedicated to ensuring that your little creators are well taken care of and entertained. 74

With the opening of the Luštica Bay Kids Club, a team of friendly and experienced animators took on taking the best care of your youngsters, becoming their friends and teachers at the same time. Showcasing our personal favourites: ART WORKSHOPS

A heartwarming winter

There is something in the nostalgic afternoons and the melancholic evening silence that the winter season invites. The soulful nourishment that this down time allows, is only amplified when the luxury of a winter break is spent somewhere where the nature inspires it further. Certainly, there is no place that does winter quite like Luštica Bay. Just a short flight or car ride away from the European capitals, the colder season can take on a very different character, regardless of whether you are staying in The Chedi Hotel, or one of rental apartments ranging from studios to three bedroom apartments.

to the day, or attending a movie screening in the lobby of the hotel, before reverting to the warm mattresses and releasing the wintery breath for the day.

Spending part of the day on the water, sailing or kayaking, can really change the way you traditionally perceive the frostier period of the year, especially on those crisp and sunny days. When the rainy days discourage you from leaving the indoor space, a healing yoga session is at hand. For those looking for a greater endorphin rush, a bootcamp session with a personal trainer or an instructed spinning class are always available in the hotel. This can always be followed by a heavenly massage in the spa or a swim in the indoor pool, lifting the mood and revitalising the mind and body. Celebrating life and love should always be on the menu - Luštica Bay is an ideal choice for gatherings and celebrations for capturing those special moments in life. In a variety of restaurants, you can celebrate your birthday, prepare a surprise for your partner or plan a romantic wedding anniversary, with a scumptious cake as the sweetest gift.
