HOW TO REALLY SAVE IN TAXES? What Your Accountant Won’t Tell You

Do You Feel Lucky?

Getting Your Company Cast on Shark Tank I often receive requests from entrepreneurs who want advice on pitching their business on the show Shark Tank. While this can be a fantastic opportunity, it can also lead to a false sense of hope if not done right. Pitching your business this way is not your typical investors’ meeting. Before you get in front of the millionaire investors, you have to impress casting. So selling yourself and your story is equally as important as selling your business. Once on the show, the outcome can be life altering. Aaron Krause, the founder of Scrub Daddy, went into the tank with $100,000 in total sales. Since making a deal on the show, sales increased to over $50 million. Or Squatty Potty who went on the show in 2014 and 24 hours after the deal aired, saw $1 million in sales and last year’s sales were expected to top $30 million.

As we get closer to the deadline to submit our taxes, we pay a visit to our Tax Accountant. Now, if we are entrepreneurs, we are able to file an extension and file our taxes before October 15th. What is the main job of your accountant? Your accountant’s job is to help you save as much on taxes as possible NOW. She will help you with itemized expenses, interest deductions and suggest you put your money in tax-deferred investments. If your accountant is not doing this, she is not doing her job. Examples of tax-deferred investments include, but are not limited to, 401k, 403b, Annuities, Savings Bonds and more. But you will have to pay compounded fees with those. Most people don’t even know there are fees associated with those and other investments. The fees can take up to 50% or more of your investment. Again, these investments are tax-deferred. Therefore, when you need your money the most (when you retire and are over 59 1/2 and are able to take out your money), Uncle Sam is going to give you a call so he can get paid for all the money you deferred and grew during the time of saving. For example, if you are accustomed to a $100k a year lifestyle and you take that amount from your tax-deferred retirement accounts, you will have to pay taxes on the full $100k. In today’s tax bracket, that would be around 25% (or $25k). So your net income would be around $75k. Do you prefer to pay taxes now or do you prefer to pay taxes later? I am big on diversifying. I am not opposed for you to put some of your money in taxdeferred accounts because there are clear benefits to it.

4 LIFE BY DESIGN MARCH 2018

Are there any other options? I’m glad you asked. Yes, there are other investments that, even though you pay your taxes now, you will not pay any taxes on the growth of your money. Not only that, but opposed to your 401ks or IRAs, you have no risk to lose your money, you don’t have to pay fees, and the growth of your money is taxexempt. What sounds better, tax-deferred or taxexempt? Tax-exempt investments are where wealthy people and financial institutions put their money. Even Tony Robbins in his book, “Money Master The Game,” recommends we put our money in taxexempt investments. Roth IRAs are a good example of taxexempt investments, but there are restrictions, risks, and management fees. There is also another tax-exempt product in the U.S. that hardly anyone knows about, Index Universal Life. Most of the time life insurance is a horrible place to put your money, but if it is structured the right way, there are a lot of benefits to it. So consider this and investigate further all of your options. I am here to help answer your questions regarding these investments. Yes, there are instant benefits and gratification for not paying taxes now, but there are far better benefits to paying little taxes now, delaying your gratification and enjoying your money later. Financial education is the path to freedom, stay informed. by Sara Chevere TheFinanciallyFitWomen.com

Several deals have also fallen through after their episodes aired for reasons ranging from differences of opinion between the owner and the Shark, to deals that don’t live up to the original contingencies set by the Shark during the show. What many fail to realize is what appears like a happy ending when the cameras are rolling still has to go through due diligence before any deal is finalized. What I remind clients is just because some companies don’t make a deal on the show doesn’t mean they can’t succeed. Back in 2013, Jamie Siminoff pitched his company, DoorBot (a caller ID for your door). He asked for $700,000 for 10% of his company which already had $1 million in sales. All of the Sharks bowed out except Kevin O’Leary who offered him a $700,000 loan, 10% of all sales until the loan was paid off, a 7% royalty on all future sales and 5% of the company’s equity. Siminoff turned the deal down and left empty-handed. After the show aired, the company hit $5 million in sales and changed the name to Ring. The company is now valued at over a billion dollars. My best advice is to make the most of your air time. Even if you don’t get a deal, this can be a phenomenal opportunity for your company. Assume you won’t get the deal, but prepare like you will. I am amazed how many people will go through the process, tape the show, have weeks and sometimes months until it airs and still not have their website and social media in order. Know your company’s current and projected valuation as well as what your bottom line is. Have a clear cut plan of what you will do with the money you are seeking and have a plan for your business if you don’t make a deal. That will help you decide what your bottom line is. Pitching your business on television can be your lucky break. Just remember that luck is a combination of preparation meeting opportunity. by Jody Taylor sixty5media.com

5 Ways You, and Your Business, Can Grow with Gratitude According to Dictionary.com, “growing” means “to become greater in quantity, size, extent, or intensity” and “gratitude” is a noun meaning “the quality or feeling of being grateful or thankful”. Therefore, “Growing with Gratitude” denotes “an increase due to adopting an attitude of thankfulness”. Hmmm. An increase of what, exactly? What will grow with gratitude? Scientists have studied the positive effects of gratitude, and here are 5 ways you, and your business, can be affected: 1. Happiness: Robert A. Emmons, Ph.D. is a professor at UC Davis. In his book, Thanks! How Practicing Gratitude Can Make You Happier, Dr. Emmons states, “Gratefulness is a knowing awareness that we are the recipients of goodness” (p.6). He reports that his extensive research about gratitude proves that “a grateful outlook produces emotional prosperity” (p. 155).

2. Health: Time magazine, in November 2017, reported studies that showed a correlation between practicing grateful living and better health. Specifically, the article stated that “giving thanks helps people appreciate and care for their bodies” by increasing healthy behaviors like working out, healthy nutrition and seeking medical advice. In addition, they cited studies that showed improved sleep and increased willpower are side effects of “counting your blessings”. 3. Spirituality: Jean Wise, an author and blogger at HealthySpirituality.org addressed the link between spirituality and gratitude on her blog in November 2015. She says studies show that “people who are grateful tend to be more helpful and empathic, more spiritual and religious, more forgiving, and less materialistic than others who are less predisposed to gratefulness.” 4. Relationship Success: John Kralik is an attorney in Los Angeles who experienced a very rough patch. He recounts his “lowest day” in his book, A Simple Act of Gratitude. He describes himself as a guy who was “fifty-two years old, forty pounds overweight, pasty, and tired, with a terrified sadness in his eyes” (p. 2). After some deep soul-searching, he chose to write 365 thank you notes over the course of the year and completely turned his life, including his relationships, around. 5. Financial Success: In an article called “Thank and Grow Rich” published by Partners4Prosperity.com, the author cites research by psychologist Shawn Achor that demonstrates the following results from daily focusing on gratitude: “productivity improves by 37%, sales increase by 37%, [and] accuracy on tasks improves by 19%”. Be grateful, be well, be prosperous! by Kathy Kendrick appreciationpal.com/#!455

It may take a village to raise a child, but before the rearing can begin someone has to give birth. We are all glorious, magnificent and radiant sexual beings with a built-in desire to reproduce. This desire “from the sire” is the reason why we are here, to create a legacy. This desire inspires us, ignites our imagination, and motivates us to create. This desire gets our creative juices flowing and inspires us to turn our seed of desire into a one-of-a-kind creation.

Whether the seed takes form as a baby or a business, the creation process is the same. It is why we came. Our creation needs nourishment, love, support and a safe space to grow. Sometimes throughout this process we get tired, we experience a wide range of emotions, get nauseous, gain weight, experience pain and discomfort. We may feel like we got punched in the stomach or kicked in the ribs and sometimes we want to give up, we may begin to think, “Was this all worth it?” “What was I thinking?” And then the time comes, you can feel it and you know there’s no turning back no matter how scared you are or unprepared

you feel. Now is the time when your creation must be birthed. When that time comes you might wish that someone else could do this part for you but you soon realize that nobody else can give birth to your creation. This creation was given to you and the only way it will be delivered is through you. The time is now, there is no turning back and so you take a deep breath in and on your exhale push forth your new creation out into the world. You catch your breath and while the tears of joy stream down your face you look at what you created and you hold your offspring (your legacy) in your arms close to your heart and say, “This wasn’t so bad. I would do this again in a heartbeat.” And before long you create again and again. The seeds of desire are already planted in you. It is up to you to decide if the seeds of desire will die inside you or you will give birth to your legacy. by Nadirah R. Bray HHP goddessinmotioninstitute.com

Sharing Is The Key To Success

Tired of seeing sponsored posts in your Facebook newsfeed? You probably are and so is Mark Zuckerberg and everyone else at Facebook. Nobody likes to be sold to. In 2018, sharing is the key to success. In the next few months, you will start to see big changes in the way information is delivered on Facebook and then on Instagram. The changes are designed to mirror the way we are exchanging information in modern society. The most immediate change is the creation of two newsfeeds: 1) Friends and Family and 2) Explore. The Friends and Family feed will be news from your friends and family. The Explore feed will include sponsored posts, news from pages you like and everything else. The user will have to click back and forth to see each feed. In beta testing conducted in several European cities, users hardly ever clicked over to the Explore tab. This change may seem like the end of using Facebook for small business marketing. But what if your friends and family helped you spread the word? According to the Nielsen Global Trust In Advertising Survey, 92% of users trust recommendations from friends more than anyone else. So how do you get your friends, aka customers, to share your posts? Each post must either entertain, educate or inform. 1. ENTERTAIN - 60% of users use social media for entertainment. Funny videos, gifs, FB Live, behind the scenes are great sources of entertainment. Find YouTubers and bloggers in your industry you can partner with.

2. EDUCATE - Inspire and motivate your user. Build a community through FB groups, host a webinar, become the expert in your field and educate your customers. 3. INFORM - Inform your customers about things happening in your industry, in your business, and in your community so they are the first to know. Advocacy is the name of the game in 2018. Whether it’s your employees sharing your posts or your customers, sharing is the key to success. You need to form relationships with advocates so they share the posts. Advocates can include your employees, your customers, bloggers, Youtubers and anyone else. Employee advocacy programs will be uber important in 2018. Your employees should love where they work and what they do so much that they want to share it to their network. You may need to remind them, teach them or in some cases motivate them to build the habit of posting. You should also set up guidelines so employees know what they can share and perhaps what is off limits. On the surface, the changes at Facebook may appear negative for small business. But if we look deeper, the changes align with our sharing economy. And in the long run, it may put your small business smack in front of the right customers at the right time and from a trusted source. by Stephanie Antin StephanieAntin.com

MONEY MATTERS

5 Quotes & Questions To Make Money Matter More On June 4th, 2011, I won the lottery. The lightning lottery.

“There are people who have money and people who are rich.” Coco Chanel

Like a good neighbor, State Farm was there and handed me a check as I stood on the road, in front of what used to be my home, after the 27 firefighters, curious reporters and onlookers left the scene.

I had what I thought was an abundant life and mindset because of the amount of money that sat in my account. Abundance, I discovered, is not dictated by the size of your bank balance or brand of your wardrobe.

What happened next forever changed the way I approach life and money.

Money is often linked to success. I felt neither rich nor successful, despite outside perception.

“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” Benjamin Franklin The insurance adjustor leaned in close and said, ‘You know, you could just take some time away… pick the place. We do pay living expenses for up to two years.’ I’ve observed that many decisions in life are rushed based on external factors and without all the details. Money was no object, and still the idea of living in my own home (a home the lightning lottery would build) caused me to make a quick decision - one that would ultimately become my greatest teacher. When it comes to your finances, what could you learn more about? “Money and success don’t change people; they merely amplify what is already there.” Will Smith All of a sudden, to the outside world, I was a millionaire. The reality…I was miserable in my career job, I was being crushed by the stress of a failing brick & mortar business, and I had a painful absence of fulfilling relationships and love. So, I bought things - the best of everything and proceeded to build a dream home. Where in your life are you using money as a suppressant - keeping you distracted from the truth?

8 LIFE BY DESIGN MARCH 2018

How do you measure the quality and richness of your life? “The real measure of your wealth is how much you’d be worth if you lost all your money.” Anonymous I built and sold the dream house, only to custom design and build a second on a beautiful hillside property overlooking the Salish Sea and Olympic Mountains. I was convinced that changing my location was the answer I was looking for. It was not - nor was it on the other five continents I adventured to as I searched for purpose, meaning, and fulfillment. What is in your way of living in abundance, right now? “My favorite things in life don’t cost any money. It’s really clear that the most precious resource we all have is time.” Steve Jobs Ultimately, I returned back to where I started, with a depleted bank account, rich experiences, and a richer heart. Now, I was ready! Who do you need to be for yourself and for others to make money and life matter more?

3 Sales Tips for Intro-preneurs As an introvert, sometimes we don’t want to push for the close. We may feel it is uncomfortable for ourselves or the prospect. Does any of that resonate with you? If so, here are some tips on how to succeed in sales despite being an introvert.

1. Believe in the product or company that you are working with or creating.

You have to believe in the company 100% because you will be sharing it with others. If it’s something that you can’t get behind, it makes it so much harder to speak about. For instance, if the company was helping raise funds for impoverished children and their mission was to help end it, that would be simple to get behind if you have a heart for children. If, instead, the company was all about the bottom dollar and a bad reputation for illegal practices, it makes it a lot harder to be passionate about them. It sounds simple, but it’s key to believe in the product or company you align yourself with.

2.Take yourself out the picture. The item you are selling, the idea, or the product

is not for you. It is meant to help someone else solve a problem. If you don’t speak up about it, or share it, then how would it be able to do its job to help others? Take the pressure off yourself by reminding yourself of all the people you will help through the product or service. It is all about benefiting others and solving their problems.

3. You can’t help them all. There’s an old saying that you can lead a horse to

the well, but you can’t force it to drink the water. Well, that is true in our case as well. Even if we have the solution that will solve their problem, not everyone will recognize they need the solution. Some people say no to everything, some people need time, and others are ready and looking for a solution. Don’t be down if some say no or are not ready. Just keep hustling and you’ll come across plenty who are looking for your solution. For the others, follow up and they may be ready sooner than you think. There’s 3 tips on different ways to look at sales for an introvert. It’s a small tweak, but it’s made a huge difference for me.

12 LIFE BY DESIGN MARCH 2018

I attended a networking meeting the other day and there were all kinds of businesses in attendance: doctors, engineers, life coaches, sports figures, celebrities, network marketers, etc. You name it, they were probably there. I scanned the room to see if there was anyone standing alone so I could walk up to them and engage them in conversation. (In the networking world there’s almost nothing worse than attending a networking meeting only to find yourself alone with no one to talk to - especially if you’re shy. How do I know this? Because I’m shy.) I saw a couple people standing solo with their head buried in their cell phone. But before I approached any of them, I continued looking around the room to see what else was going on. (You see, I like to look from the periphery before I jump into a room. This helps my shy side open up before I enter (a technique I started using during my year of fears) so I am open to anything. It works great. Try it.) On second look, I noticed a large number of people surrounding one gentleman. They appeared to be enthralled with his conversation and were hanging on every word. So, what did I do? I joined the large group, of course. I HAD to find out what was going on, who this was that attracted such a large crowd, what he was talking about and how I could serve him. The Law of Attraction says that “like attracts like” and it was hard at work that night. As I got closer to the crowd, I realized why so many people were hanging around this guy. He was funny, very expressive with his body

movements, and was passionate about what he was talking about. People were naturally attracted to him because he made them feel good. How can we make sure we are attracting people to us rather than repelling them away from us? I’ll go back to the solos who had their head buried in their phone. That type of behavior says “Stay away from me. I’m busy.” This behavior is a repellent. You are pushing people away from you before they even have a chance to talk to you. Then you go home after that networking meeting wondering why you didn’t get any leads. Here are a few suggestions to help you attract people to you instead of repelling them away from you. While out of the house, whether it’s attending a networking event or standing in line at the movie theater or, heck, standing in line at Starbucks, put your phone away and look around you. What human beings are standing near you that you can have a conversation with? It’s possible your next business partner walked in and out of your life because you had your head buried in the sand (you repelled them away). It’s time to get back to the basics and have conversations with real human beings. This will make you an attraction marketing machine. Are you ready for that?

Restaurant of The Month Have you ever walked into a restaurant and instantly felt welcome? That is what happened as we walked into our feature restaurant for March, Piatti Italian restaurant and bar. Located in beautiful La Jolla Shores, we couldn’t have asked for a more picturesque scenery. Luckily, the location wasn’t even close to being the best part of this restaurant. As we took in the atmosphere, sampled the food, and experienced amazing service, it became incredibly clear why Piatti has 4.5 stars. While the incredibly classy atmosphere is perfect for business meetings, it has a very relaxed vibe. With three separate areas (the bar for a quick cocktail meeting, a beautiful dining room, and an elegant patio) it is easy to create the ambiance you want. Ayaka Ito

The real stars of Piatti are the staff. With 41 staff members for over 10 years The real stars of Piatti are the staff. With 41 staff members for over 10 years, the family experience is instantly felt when you walk in. But it’s not only the staff that creates the family experience. The loyal customers and regulars show how much joy Piatti brings to the community! Tom, the General Manager, says the hardest thing for him is not taking it personally when someone doesn’t enjoy their experience. But that shows how invested he is in creating a restaurant where everyone feels at home and joyful! The atmosphere and wait staff were terrific, but the food was phenomenal! Right off the bat they brought oil and vinaigrette, but this was no ordinary dip for bread. Seasoned with garlic and herbs, this was easily the best way to start our lunch! As we moved from the romaine salad, through amazing pasta, to steak, and dessert, there was not one dish that felt heavy. We had the pleasure of trying three very different pasta dishes: wild mushroom Rotolo, saffron pappardelle, and butternut squash ravioli. Each plate had a completely different flavor profile, but each one seemed to be better than the last as we tried them! The steak was tender and juicy and was paired with Brussels sprouts that were crispy and delicious. Next came the desserts! The tiramisu was so light and fluffy; not a single bite made anyone feel guilty about eating dessert. The torta di limone is a play on key lime pie. With lemon mascarpone and a beautiful raspberry sauce, it was refreshing and delicious. Lastly, we tasted the bodino di pane, a fabulous bread pudding so light and airy but packed with flavor. **Looking for a craft cocktail? Try the refreshing, but strong, sage flower** Piatti of La Jolla is a fantastic place for business meetings, family, friends or even yourself for a night on the town. The small details from offering an assortment of tea, to the house made pasta, to the loyal, happy and caring staff truly make Piatti a stand out restaurant in San Diego. ENTREPRENEUR OF THE MONTH

Dr. Marty Fallor

As we move into Spring, our featured Entrepreneur of the Month, Dr. Marty Fallor, has breathed new life into people on a regular basis. Marty started his entrepreneurial journey his last year of residency while training to become a ophthalmic plastic & reconstructive surgeon. While still completing his residency, he had already been noticed by others in the industry and has successfully completed nearly 15,000 surgeries, opened 14 practices, and, in addition to his medical license, has a law degree! Marty’s purpose in life is to help others and, although he no longer practices medicine, he still uses his time to guide others to achieve massive success. Born and raised in New York, he moved to sunny San Diego after medical school. After moving to San Diego, he showed his entrepreneurial spirit by traveling up and down the California coast on the weekends to work at different practices. While he was finishing up his residency, many sales reps would come to show and sell new products. While many of his co-workers would not give them the time of day, Marty was kind, listened and even offered advice. He accredits much of his success to treating people how he would want to be treated.

16 LIFE BY DESIGN MARCH 2018

Little did he realize he was essentially creating a sales team for himself. Soon the sales reps would visit practices, and when they did many of them gave glowing reviews of Marty. With so many glowing reviews, and being exceptionally skilled in his craft, it’s only natural that many practices wanted to work with him at such a young age. After completing his training, Marty joined a practice, but found himself being in the O.R. a limited amount of time. Knowing that his time could be better spent, and that he had the opportunity to help more people by creating his own schedule, he ventured off to start his own practice. Having an entrepreneurial mindset, Marty looked for something that could not only benefit himself, but solve problems at the same time. Soon Marty realized that most medical offices only use their O.R. a couple times a week. This meant that there was plenty of time for someone else to come in and use the O.R. on the days no operations were scheduled. As Marty expanded his empire, he made sure to include others by inviting them to watch him operate and learn from him. He discovered that other surgeons were no competition for him. Instead, his real enemy was doctors performing procedures incorrectly and giving the practice a bad name. This helped elevate those around him, and, in turn, helped grow his practices and ensure he had terrific surgeons

working with him. Although Marty hadn’t considered himself an entrepreneur, his passion, mindset, and action show through as the values of a successful entrepreneur. Marty is still looking for ways to help others. Whether it be advice or guidance, his passion is genuinely assisting others to flourish in their lives. Marty considers his most significant success the fact that he left his practice on a positive note. Even though he retired his scalpel, he is still grateful for all of those he had the opportunity to work on, and with. This kind of positivity is exactly the mindset we hope to see in San Diego’s influencers. Through the years of working, opening new practices, and living his dreams, Marty has learned so many truths that he decided to share with us! These tips not only helped him grow his businesses, but they can do the same for you! First, Marty reminds us never to burn bridges while working with so many different practices. Instead of burning bridges, he let his old practices know that if they ever needed anyone he would be happy to come back. And guess what! He was asked back. If he had burnt that bridge, he knew he would only be hurting himself and his clients. Marty also shows us that what goes around comes around! While his co-workers were ignoring the sales reps that used to come around, he helped them and treated them like people. Since he was kind, each of those sales reps became living testimonials of his kindness. Although Marty has had many successes and lived a life of positivity, he tells us that if he had the chance to go back and do it again, he wouldn’t have joined a practice for a salary. He would say to himself to believe that he can do it on his own and that he should just do it! Although Marty no longer practices, he still enjoys his days helping others and using his knowledge to inspire and elevate other entrepreneurs. With such a positive mindset and such a fantastic success story, there is no doubt in our mind that Marty Fallor truly lives a Life By his Design.

Success Mastery Member Hello, my friends. I believe that we can all agree that mentorship is crucial to the success of your entrepreneurial career. Every true entrepreneur that is successful or on the path to success understands the importance of mentorship. However, in this crazy world where so many people call themselves a coach or mentor, how do you know who is authentic and truly qualified to be considered a mentor? In this article I will share how I found my mentor and why he is qualified to be guiding me to success. Enjoy! MY MENTOR HAS PROVEN RESULTS. This is paramount in my opinion. I remember when I first got into business for myself in the real estate investing realm. I was doing so many things on my own and just learning the ropes. I eventually found a so-called mentor and it never dawned on me to check what they had done. When my project started to spiral and I turned to my so-called mentor, he had no idea how to help me. I, once again, had to figure it out on my own. I encourage you to find a mentor who has seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. A mentor is supposed to guide you and help you so you can make the least number of mistakes possible by cutting your learning curve in half. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and learn about that person’s history and experience. You should qualify them if you are going to learn from them. MY MENTOR IS AVAILABLE. Now on to the second time I found a new “mentor.” This time I went online and found a social media influencer that seemed like the right fit. I knew he had proven results, so I bought into his mentorship program. It all felt right, until I tried to contact him for advice. That’s when I realized that this so-called mentor was nowhere to be found, except on social media where he was parading around showing his lifestyle. When I tried to message him, I would barely get any feedback on the advice I needed. I highly suggest you find a mentor that is HOPEFULLY local. I understand long distance mentorship may be able to work, but you will definitely experience the complica-

Who You Follow Is Who You Become 3 Traits of a Great Mentor tions of not being able to simply drive to your mentor’s residence. Make sure you are clear with the expectations of what you are looking for in a mentor and find out if they can fulfill that expectation. With that being said, you will also receive expectations, so make certain that you can also deliver. MY MENTOR HAS A MENTOR. Have you ever taken advice from someone who wasn’t an entrepreneur or learning from an experienced and successful entrepreneur? Family, friends, colleagues? I know I did. When I first got going in my entrepreneurial career I took advice from people who were in my same position. They were just getting started and didn’t understand the importance of mentorship either. It was the blind leading the blind. I challenge you to be very clear and precise on what you are looking for in a mentor. Are they thriving and learning from another successful entrepreneur with proven results? If you want to grow, make sure your mentor is also growing. In conclusion, my friends, please be cautious, yet enthusiastic, about finding a mentor. Understand that mentorship is a two-way street. While you are trying to qualify your grit and coachability to them, you should also have a standard of what you look for in a mentor. You are going to learn and become a reflection of your mentor, including his business practices. Be certain he has reached the success you want to reach and is a person you want to emulate. After all, we can all hope we will reach the success of our mentors. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have them as our mentors, right?

Helping WOMEN Break Through Their Fears

10

SCHEDULE A

30-MINUTE

FEAR BREAKING

1

PASSIONATE VS. PASSIVE: Too often the entrepreneurs I speak with have all kinds of ideas, but no real drive behind them. My advice is to be passionate about what you want and why you want it.

2

NO STRATEGY OR PLAN: Taking time to create a plan of how you want things to pan out is key. This way you can test, measure and learn from what you’re doing and decide whether you’re on the right path or not.

3

FEAR OF MAKING MISTAKES: We’ve all heard that you should fail and fail often in order to succeed. One of the best ways to avoid this pitfall is to surround yourself with people who will always believe in you, will be there to pick you up, and encourage you to press on.

4

THE DESIRE TO LOOK GOOD: The opinions of other people can be one of the most crippling aspects of life, let alone entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship takes hard work and patience. All of those opinions, and there are many, will not and are not paying your bills.

5

NOT HAVING A ROLE MODEL OR HAVING THE WRONG ROLE MODEL: Who are you modeling? As entrepreneurs, finding someone who has been there/done that is an incredible advantage. Reach out to those you would consider a mentor. Can you get close to them or someone in their inner circle? This worked for me.

6

HAVING A “WORK WHEN I FEEL LIKE IT” MENTALITY: Sure, as entrepreneurs we set our own schedules. What surprises me about that is too many are taking this concept to the point of barely working. Adopt working from a schedule that ties into your plan. Have an intention for your day, know what you want to accomplish, and work that schedule every day.

NO SALES SKILLS: Now depending on what kind of entrepreneur you are, this may or may not apply. However, I’ve met many who are either coaching people in one area or another or creating programs for people to subscribe. Hone your sales skills. Learn some basic NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) techniques and know how to close someone and drive results.

8

NOT HAVING A GOAL: Set S.M.A.R.T. goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely). If you want a business you can love, be proud of and leaves a legacy, you’ll want to have goals attached to it.

9

NO SUPPORT: It has been proven that those who have a support structure around them succeed at a pace greater than those who do not. The right coach can catapult you into success-dom, but make sure you choose your coach wisely.

10

LACK OF FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: This is critical! Be sure to educate yourself on how to manage your finances. Here’s an easy rule of thumb to follow. Break down your income into thirds: 1) one-third goes back into your business, 2) one-third gets put aside in an account for taxes, and 3) one-third is used for living expenses and savings.

Declaration of Freedom I want you to imagine that you’re a teenage girl in high school. Your current preoccupations include if your crush will text you today and if you’re prepared for your history test. You wake up, go through your morning routine, and head down for breakfast. On this particular morning, your father says “I had a great dream last night.” You perk up because your father doesn’t share much. You’re interested in what his dream was about but more interested in hearing what he has to say. He continues “Last night I dreamt you were skinny. You looked really nice. I really liked that dream.” Fast forward and now you’re in your twenties; you’ve decided to move to San Diego in pursuit of your dreams. You ask your father for some assistance. Straight up point blank, he replies “No. I’m not helping you. Everything you do is a disappointment”. You can probably gather that I might have daddy issues by now. This is something that I’ve lived with for many years. It has affected me in my work life in not feeling confident with the work that I do, in my relationships always seeking someone to tell me I was good enough. I was always seeking validation from others because I couldn’t give it to myself. I lived most of my life blaming my father for all my failures; “He never believed in me or gave me support so now I am nothing”. Until now. Through my own curiosity of how to succeed in life, I turned to books, seminars, teachers, psychedelics, and the internet. I came to understand that I create my own reality. I can feel like shit about where I am in life and blame my father. Or I can take ownership of my situation and take action to better it. I can give myself the validation I sought from others for so long. That was the secret, the missing piece to the puzzle. The only person who could save me was me. I could get high off some drug or blackout wasted from alcohol and forget about my worries and pain. I could run away to another country and keep my mind occupied with something new to distract me with, but the emptiness always followed. I was fed up with the way I was choosing to hide every day, the situations I kept getting myself into, always looking for the next thing to make me “happy” when in reality I always had the choice to be happy and free. Only I could give myself that power, that freedom. Today, I am proud to say I am free. I am free from being chained to the expectations society has of me, I am free of seeking approval from family and friends. I am free to stand strong and authentic in my being and know that I am enough. I am a Devine half Korean half Mexican, American millennial Generation Y woman and I am utterly and absolutely in love with the person that I have chosen to be today.

Hey there! My name is Tiffany and I’m a half Korean and half Mexican recent transplant to San Diego with big hopes and dreams. I’ve been a nomad for the past 7 years learning and gaining experience from the world and am now applying those lessons to my businesses in real estate and as a Spanish interpreter. I hope to help others in their pursuit of their dreams through my services and life experiences.

Facing The Twin Health Epidemics Head On

Obesity & Diabetes One cannot help but notice the expanding girth of those around us; maybe even our own. This is not a surprise, as according to statistics provided by the World Health Organization in 2016 and 2017, both the prevalence of diabetes and obesity have almost doubled since 1980.

ening. A lot of adults are not sufficiently active to achieve health benefits. The Healthcare Costs of Obesity is one of the biggest drivers of preventable chronic diseases and healthcare costs in the United States. LIFE DOES NOT NEED TO BE THIS WAY!

According to the American Diabetes Association, 29.1 million Americans live with diabetes and an alarming 1.4 million new cases are reported each year! Additionally, 68.8% of Americans are obese/ overweight.

My PASSION is to help reduce this diabetes and obesity epidemic in the United States, and specifically right here in San Diego, California… I think to myself, “It’s no wonder that we have a population that is overweight/obese. Our food choices are fast, cheap and often on the go!”

Globally, diabetes has risen from 4.7% to 8.5% in adults since 1980 and obesity in men has approximately tripled, and in women, doubled, between 1975 and 2014. This dramatic rise in obesity has led to at least 2.8 million people globally dying every year as a result of this added health risk! Scientists say sweetened beverages are the single largest contributor to the obesity epidemic and that epidemic exacts a big toll in both health problems and medical costs. All you have to do is take a stroll down the beverage aisle at any store. There are low glycemic beverages that provide a healthy alternative to the plethora of high glycemic beverage choices. Science and clinical trials have been key to finding a way to battle these statistics. It is concerning that physical inactivity in the United States is very high! American adults do not meet the government’s national physical activity recommendations for aerobic activity and muscle strength-

We are in the middle of a health crisis tsunami, so it seems… How cool would it be to Drink and Shrink? We need a Health Revival in our country! Could you get excited about that? How would it feel to make a difference in the lives and the health of yourself and others? Knowledge is power. This is the reason I want to steer you, the reader, into doing more research on the glycemic index. This is no secret, so why not PUT THE SKINNY BACK IN YOUR GENES. It’s time to break the cycle that the diabetes and obesity epidemics have been making headlines about! It’s time for us as a people to make a difference, make a change! Let us empower one another with the knowledge that is available. by Sheri Hendrickson SkinnyGenes1.com

Eat Those Greens On Your Plate!

The Modern American Diet has lacked in so many of the vital nutrients that we all need for optimal health. The consumption of too much processed foods and junk foods are best to avoid. And then there is the high levels of stress and lack of sleep, especially experienced from Business Owners, Entrepreneurs and most working Americans. Add to that, the poisons from our environment and use of particular toxic products. All of this is the cause of many diseases of the Modern American Health Crisis. It is important to know that heart disease is the leading cause of death for people of most ethnicities in the United States, including African Americans, Hispanics, and Caucasians. For American Indians or Alaska Natives and Asians or Pacific Islanders, heart disease is second only to cancer. The other top diseases include Cancer, Stroke, Diabetes, Hypertension, Hypercholesterolemia and Obesity. Adrenal Insufficiency and Sleep Deprivation should really be added to the list. So, how can one combat AND prevent many of these unwanted health conditions? Simple, eat those greens on your plate! Here are a few of my favorite detoxifying and nourishing greens, along with their associated healing benefits. Bok Choy. Cultivated in China for centuries, bok choy has played a large part not only in its cuisine, but in traditional Chinese medicine. Today, it’s a staple in both Asian and American recipes. Beta carotene levels in bok choy are high enough for the veggie to be highly recommended by the Macular Degeneration Association. In fact, a single cup of bok choy contains the entire RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) of beta carotene, which has been shown to prevent night blindness and possibly reduce the risk of cataract and macular degeneration. Brussel Sprouts. Rich in many valuable nutrients, they are an excellent source of vitamin C and vitamin K. They are a very good source of numerous nutrients including folate, manganese, vitamin B6, dietary fiber, choline, copper, vitamin B1, potassium, phosphorus and omega-3 fatty acids. Not only do they assist in phase 1 and phase 2 liver detoxification, they also keep you feeling full. Broccoli Sprouts. John Hopkins University made this famous for its antioxidant content and according to their research, these sprouts contain 20-50 times the sulforaphane found in mature broccoli, by weight. You get as much healing nutrition in 1 ounce of broccoli sprouts as you would if you ate 3 pounds of fully grown broccoli! Asparagus. Also known as “The Mother of All Anti-Oxidants,” asparagus is my favorite of all and is amazingly versatile! It can be steamed, simmered, roasted, battered, grilled, sautéed or wok-fried. It’s rich in chromium, a trace mineral that enhances the ability of insulin to transport glucose from the bloodstream into cells. It is also a natural liver detoxifier and liver protectant, the highest plant-based source of glutathione! There is no better ounce of health prevention than being more mindful and eating better. So, eat those greens on your plate. And enjoy! by Dr. Catherine Sy Luib D.C., L.Ac., M.A.O.M., B.Sc. (Kin), CCH, CNLP LuibHealthCenter.com ENTREPRENEUR LIFESTYLE MAGAZINE 23

Minimal budget? Big Yields.

How minimalism can set you up for success by spending less and saving more. #LessIsMore Tax returns are coming, and even if you receive a little, or none, it’s a 2nd awakening that reminds you to commit to change. Maybe last year’s resolution was wishy washy, and that’s ok. Nothing like the cold reality of a tax return (or bill) to help ground your paradigm on budgeting for the present year. Remember that with minimalism you are not necessarily adhering to a strict budget that cuts out all fun. Again, the purpose is to do away with the excess so you can have more funds to enjoy the things that truly matter to you. This can be saving up for an unforgettable experience like a cruise ship vacation (using all the money you would have spent on overpriced coffee every day). See how this leverages a simple replaceable everyday pleasure with something much greater in return? Try these ideas for the rest of the year and see how much you could save, too. If you are in the market for a new HOME, consider a container home, or tiny house. Both these styles offer a mobile dwelling solution for the agile entrepreneur. They can be custom made from templates to suit your taste and, despite their size, they make excellent use of interior spaces to maximize storage. Also, entry level prices are very affordable compared to traditional homes. My favorite frontier, FOOD and DIET, is an exemplary platform to showcase the power of minimalism to reduce waste and increase value. Brown rice, pinto beans, lentils, peas and corn are just some of my favorite kitchen staples that should be present with every dish. It serves as a lesson that so many ancient cultures relied on these types of nutrients for their abundance and heartiness. As a bonus, many of these foods can be purchased in bulk and in reusable containers from certain grocery outlets, so the environment wins here, too. Ever thought about your daily SPENDING HABITS and how often you buy or pay for something? Sadly, there is a great amount of temptation out there in the way of subscription memberships, compulsive purchases, coffee runs and unplanned meals or snacks. This is where you can save the most money overall on your new budget by planning out purchases ahead of time. When making non-essential purchases, you must be honest with yourself and ask if you really need the item, or just want it. Remember that how strictly you adhere to these money saving minimalist ideas is up to you and your level of comfort, as well as how you go about making these changes in your life. For the next edition we will share some pictures of how you saved creatively, or spent wisely on your #LessIsMore journey. Remember to also use the #LBDMagazine tag so we can feature your image along with an excerpt of your story in our next edition. by Juan David Ortiz-Romero lendit.io

The Mistake Success Entrepreneurs Don’t Make One of the biggest mistakes that I see entrepreneurs make is comparing themselves to others. I see this happen way too often, and the results can be damaging for not only the entrepreneur, but also for their business. You would think that comparing yourself to others would be beneficial because it should give you a fuel of motivation. Observing the life of another successful entrepreneur should prompt you to grow and excel to a place where you can at least match the greatness of the person you are comparing yourself to. However, in most cases, this does not occur; rather, dangerous unhealthy emotions and thoughts begin to form and eventually take your self confidence hostage. The truth is that most of you would not be able to handle the pressure, scars, setbacks, failures, and risks that most successful people have experienced. There is a level of psychological strain and stress that accompanies success. Many successful people have given up relationships, secure jobs, homes, and financial security to become the success that they are today. Blood, sweat, tears, pain, and heartache accompany success. There are extreme sacrifices required to get to the top that most of you would be unwilling to make. With all that being stated, your number one focus should not be on someone else’s journey. Why? Because you are unique. You have your own mission, passion, purpose, and talent that is completely unique. That means that your journey, while it may be similar, will be different than anybody else’s. This means that you must focus on mastering your craft and genius. Maximize your strengths and become the best version of yourself. When you refuse to compare yourself to others, you become confident and comfortable in your own skin. In order to avoid the temptation of unhealthy comparisons, I suggest the following. 1. Celebrate the greatness of others Rather than comparing someone’s success with your own, admire their success. The formula for success is different for each person, so when you are celebrating someone else, you are celebrating their unique talents and gifts. You are also celebrating every factor in their life that has helped them reach their point of success. They may have had a great support system at home, better opportunities, higher level education, or beneficial business connections. Either way, don’t allow these factors to create jealousy; rather, applaud their efforts and celebrate their triumphs. Don’t let the success of their journey discourage you. Let it propel you to enjoy your journey, go after your dream, and fulfill your purpose. 2. Learn from the greatness of others Many people spend most of their time trying to become exactly like successful people. They want to become the next Oprah, Tony Robbins, Warren Buffet, Grant Cardone, etc. The problem with this is that space is already taken. Instead of trying to become one of these successful people, commit to learning from them in order to become YOU. Learn about their habits, work ethic, and their keys to success. Incorporate this knowledge into your own unique personality and gifts in order to become a better YOU. This puts you in a place of empowerment as opposed to feeling defeated that you will never be these successful people. 3. Compare yourself to the person you were yesterday The greatest study that you will ever take part in is the study of yourself. Examine who you were yesterday to determine if you will be a success today. Ask yourself questions. Are you reading your brains out? Are you growing? Are you investing in coaching and training? Are you living average? Comparing yourself to other people can take the focus off or yourself and put it on other people. The problem then arises that you begin to neglect the truths of who you really are, which cause you to ignore unhealthy patterns and habits that are hindering your own personal success. It also can cause you to stay in a constant state of defeat while you start to embrace hopelessness and an overall feeling of being unworthy. My friends, you have to realize that there is enough room at the top. You can be secure without feeling the need to compare yourself with others. Let go of the thought that you will never arrive or measure up. You are already great, and you have already arrived. If you live this way, you are going to be more focused and free to walk your own path. Enjoy the journey of being uniquely YOU. by Matt Maddix MaddixPublishing.com

UNMUTE Your Money. They say, “Talk is cheap…,” but it is also a universal rule that, “Money talks and it talks loudly.” What would the way you spend YOUR money say about YOU? Below are five ways to help budget your money and unmute what it is really saying about you. 1) Save money out of every single check. Don’t skip, not even once. If you are spending your entire check every time you get one, then you are wasting opportunities for growth in your life. What you spend, you don’t get back. You need money that you put away and don’t touch. Take 10%-15% or more out of every check. It helps to pretend like this money doesn’t even exist as part of your check and you will then find ways to make do without this portion. Remember this: If an emergency comes up, can you actually cover it? 2) Does your money make money for you? So many people aren’t very logical when it comes to receiving money, especially when it is in large sums. You can tell a lot about a person and the way they think as an individual by what they do with their tax return. Are you going to go buy a new big screen TV that goes down in value after you buy it? Or are you going to invest your money into something that will make profit for you instead? 3) Benjamin Franklin is screaming at you. “Put down that name brand coffee!” Says Benny Boy. Do you really need that double espresso, 3 pumps of caramel syrup, 3 vanilla drizzles, extra whipped

cream, extra coconut milk, add cinnamon, add cocoa powder, latte? Your Benjamin Franklin’s are getting burnt out on your everyday “get through the day” addictions. So burnt out, it’s actually burning holes right in your pockets. Settle for your office’s free coffee or make your own at home instead. You’d be surprised when you sit down and actually see all the “small things” that are stealing away your money every month. 4) Auto-pay might be shredding your cheddar a little too thin. Auto-pay might make you forget your options with certain companies. Many companies in many states give you alternative options for the same essential service. An example would be gas and electric companies. Many states are deregulated and actually give you the option to choose your gas or electric provider... and would save you a ton of money to switch to someone cheaper. Some companies even allow you to lock in at a price in the summer and your bills would be consistent throughout the winter instead of changing with the up and down market. 5) Pay off that card every month. If you are wanting to build credit, use only what you have. Then take that card and pay it completely off every month. This will save you so you aren’t spending extra money on charges and fees monthly. Even if you can only do this with one of your cards, it will start a new pattern in your life to spend ONLY what you have. So, what is your money saying about you? by Marc Beatty FB.com/MarcOnPurpose

Online Parties

Online parties are not just for selling...

Have you ever been invited to or hosted an online party on social media? Back when I started network marketing in 2014, online parties were brand new. They produced a ton of sales from posting in a FB event 3 times a day for 10 days. My first one generated almost $1,000 in sales. I thought it was the coolest thing that I was getting paid to post on Facebook! Fast forward to 2018. We are now getting completely inundated with event invites, getting added to group after group without permission, and seeing links constantly in our newsfeed. Now you can have a 10-day online party that produces $0 in sales. Why? Because the focus has changed. People are tired of getting sold to. We are provided with offer after offer from one company to the next. We are overwhelmed with products and links. So you are probably wondering, if online parties are not about the sale and so many fail, what is the purpose? The purpose is to expand your network and make new connections. It’s about communicating with those who RSVP to that party to find out their hang ups, and educating them on how your product or service can meet their needs. It is not only about getting the sale. It is all about building trust, connecting with your audience, building relationships, being consistent, and providing entertainment and value to set yourself apart from your competition. You want people to remember you after that party is over and to think of you when they think of your brand. You want your name to pop up in their mind when they are in need of the product or service you offer. You want to make people feel important instead of making them feel like you want something from them. You need to go into parties with the mindset of what you can do for others instead of what others can do for you. Consider calling it a class instead of a party. Focus on educating instead of selling. People buy from those they like, know, and trust. If you are running an online party with an audience full of strangers, you probably won’t get many sales if all you do is post pictures and words. It is way more effective for you to go live in that party, to send private messages to the guests, and to focus on making connections and building relationships instead of just making the sale. Those relationships could turn into customers, business partners, and referrals. It is about planting seeds. Be consistent, coach your hostess, and set your goal on expanding your network. Do not be disappointed if you didn’t make a sale be proud that you made new connections. by Lauren B. Aven, M.A. LaurenAven.com

Foster a Tribe

Go Forth – GREATER Than YOU If you want your dreams to become a reality, you need to put your focus where it counts. You need to become relevant and visible. You need to endear people to you and you to them. Let’s face it, if you speak and there’s no one around to listen, what’s the point? Building a tribe is about getting outside of yourself. It’s about creating something bigger than you. It’s about taking the genuine uniqueness of you and fostering greatness in others. You have a special value that has been given to only you and people are eagerly waiting for you to share that special value. So, step outside of yourself and, using these three principles, foster a tribe much greater than you. BOLDLY BE YOU Be real, be visible, be you. By being bold and authentic in your own life, you add value to everyone else’s. Always be expectant – expect happiness, expect truth, expect the best. When you play full out – full out in honesty, full out in effort, full out in vulnerability – everyone profits. You are unique and you have one supreme purpose – to be you. So, be you boldly - dream boldly, thrive boldly, live boldly – and you will uniquely and naturally draw people to you and add magnificence to the world. BOLDLY INVEST IN OTHERS When you help others achieve their goals and dreams, you instill confidence in them. You lift them up and empower them to step up and live boldly, too. Genuinely be interested in others’ lives and actively encourage engagement with you and other members within your tribe. Openly share your knowledge and resources. of others as well. Information you are attracted to will also be attractive to your tribe. Remember, there’s plenty of abundance for everyone. Helping others grow, helps you grow. And when you grow, your tribe grows. BOLDLY SHOW UP Whether online or offline, you need to be where your potential tribe members are. You can’t be everywhere, but you do need to be where it works. Decide where, what, and how much you can engage and contribute and show up there. Get yourself seeded in two or three top communities you can commit to investing in – blogs, social media groups, conference communities, Meetup groups, etc. Make your presence known by being active and becoming a valuable asset. Endear yourself with an authoritative mentor - offer help and add value to their work by being an asset where you are sharpest. And not just with the authoritative mentor, but with their community as well. This is an investment of your time, so start with a few and invest deeply. Life offers fresh opportunities daily to show how superb it is to be alive. Use these opportunities to not only personally flourish, but to foster a tribe greater than yourself. by Janine L. What ’s Going On San Diego?

Worlds Only Fat Burning Coffee! Worlds Only Fat Burning Worlds Only Fat Burning Coffee! Coffee!

“As women, as Californians, as San Diegans, we expect more, we want more than just a drinking event. We want it all!” This is what the creator of Chic and Savvy Ladies Night said when we asked her why she decided to start this inspired event. Featuring drinks, food, entertainment and education, Cory’s dream for this event is to create a community environment and expose people to the idea of seminars. In addition, she wants to make sure that small business owners and women have a place to learn, grow, and create an environment of success. This event isn’t only about having fun (don’t get us wrong, this event is still going to be a lot of fun), it’s also about building a community and changing the event world not just to have fun, or be productive, but create something where you can do both. The inspiration for Chic and Savvy Ladies Night came from working in events, either as a vendor or running the events. Cory saw a problem that she could quickly fix with a little hard work and desire. This problem-solving spirit is precisely what entrepreneurship is all about! Seeing there weren’t many events in San Diego that were based on small businesses, or businesses owned by women, created a drive in Cory. She found a passion for creating an event to build these brands, make connections, and showcase the small business talents. But how can attending events help you or your business? Events can help create a sense of community, a place to network, and help you relax while still being productive. The motto of Chic and Savvy Ladies Night is “we are stronger together.” This comes from knowing that in business the more prominent your network the better chance you have of becoming successful. This is why attending value driven events can give you and your business the opportunity to meet like-minded individuals who may refer people to your business or become clients themselves. But who says that you can’t have fun and get value at the same time? Why does it have to be that you either go to networking events or go to events where you do nothing productive for your business? Cory doesn’t think that has to be the case! That is her dream! Creating an event where you can have a good time and still be productive. Her goal is hosting an event where you can have a drink, make connections, see comedians, build your brand, and learn from industry leaders all while having the time of your life. So if you are looking for an event to create a community, network, and have a fantastic time, Chic and Savvy Ladies Night is the place for you! For event info please check out our website.

WHO is in Your Corner? When we are kids growing up, how do we learn what is right or wrong, how to tie our shoes, or even how to speak English? How do we get better at math, sports, tying our shoes? We are constantly surrounded by others showing us the way, leading, teaching, and bettering us. As we learn more and more, we start to believe that we no longer need someone to teach us. But can you honestly think back to when you were a child and say that learning the alphabet would be easier without someone helping you? If you can, then you are leagues ahead of where I am! It is important to learn as much as we can to better ourselves and our businesses. Remember, you don’t know what you don’t know! Having someone there to help you see from a new perspective can drastically improve your chances of success. With the winter Olympics behind us, we had a great opportunity to see all of those amazing athletes in action. They put in hour after hour working to improve their craft, living with pain and restriction for months or even years to achieve their dream. When they choose who will help take them to that level of excellence, do they pick someone who has never played their sport? Do they pick someone who is unproven or untested? NO! If you ask any professional athlete, they will tell you how important it is to have a coach who can give you council, not an opinion. What would have happened if Phil Jackson told Michael Jordan to shoot with his elbow out? Do you think he would have made it very far if that was the advice he listened to? Is there something that you aren’t seeing in your business? What if you had someone to help you see, to guide you, someone who has achieved success in their field, and possibly even yours? Life and business are filled with unique challenges. Facing it alone is not only difficult, it’s like trying to solve a math problem when you don’t know addition. Go back to that time when you were a kid, when you had teachers, and coaches for everything. Think of how much easier it was to succeed in what you were trying to accomplish! So this year take a lesson from the greats and get a coach! Get someone to help you see your blind spots and help you improve on yourself and your business. The greatest investment you can ever make is in yourself; don’t let your own limiting beliefs stop you from achieving your greatest purpose in life!

The 1-Page Marketing Plan by Allan Dib

BOOK REVIEW

The One Page Marketing Plan by Allan Dib is perfect for someone just starting out or for those who are simply looking to understand marketing. The best part about this book is the clarity and simplicity. “Plan” breaks your strategy down into nine sections. Each section is easy to understand and gives you the opportunity to go in-depth later on when you have more time and/ or if you want to implement more. The clarity of this book comes from the use of modern and real companies such as Airbnb, Alibaba, and Uber. Using real companies that are relevant to today’s fast-paced lifestyle creates an image of what it really takes to get your marketing to a place of excellence. While many marketing books were written in the early 2000s, “Plan” was written in 2016 and puts a fresh new spin on tried and true marketing strategies. The combination of proven strategies and tools can be applied today. Alan Dib’s reason for writing this book was to create implementations that lead to massive breakthroughs in your business. When reading this “Plan,” we recommend that you start with your nine-point outline, then work in the details as you begin to grasp the marketing strategies. Any way you slice it, this book is a fantastic read and a wonderful starting point (as long as you follow through from start to finish)!

MONEY LOVER

How do you perceive money?

How many of you let money rule your world or set the mood for your other relationships? When you can’t afford the things you want, how does it make you feel? And how does this feeling affect your entire world? Maybe you feel disempowered, hopeless, unworthy….only because you don’t make enough money to have the life you desire. How is your relationship with MONEY? Do you treasure it, save it, or maybe you throw it away carelessly? Think about it. Money and love have one thing in common. There is an abundance of both in the world, around you, everywhere you go. We can say beyond any reasonable doubt that there is a limitless supply of LOVE and MONEY around you. They have a pretty similar energy. Money is utterly important, no matter what you were told or taught… And I would say right here, right now, that “Money is just as important as love.” Let’s do a little exercise, shall we? Imagine for one moment that money is your lover. How would you treat it? How would you talk to it? What would you do with it? Would you take it to a fancy restaurant or a cheap one? Would you treat it with respect and care or would you treat it like “IT” doesn’t matter? Think about it! This is vital right now for your future wealth.

32 LIFE BY DESIGN MARCH 2018

Would you see it as your best friend or your enemy? We were taught to believe that: “Money is the root of all evil.” So many great authors have talked about this subject and how those beliefs have led most of the world’s population to poverty or “living day by day” status. THINK ABOUT IT - ASK YOURSELF BE HONEST. What kind of relationship do you have with MONEY and how has this affected you so far? My friend, if you don’t have enough money right now….you got to start changing the way you perceive it. And if you ask me why I know “IT” is so important to you? …. pretty simple Sherlock….you are reading this article. You will not make all the money you love if you don’t love MONEY! You need to nurture it, take care of it, let it grow inside out. You have to talk to it as if it were your wife, your husband, your PARTNER in LIFE, your LOVER. Make a decision and create the relationship you want with money by becoming a Money Lover.

BEHIND THE SCENES OF

STEGELA

February was an exciting month for us at Life By Design Magazine! We started off right with our monthly magazine launch and networking mixer. Nearly 170 people showed up to find out who San Diego’s most eligible bachelor and bachelorette were! Next, we headed out to Davide Di Giorgio’s monthly speaker event to watch our fearless leader Casey Nicole Fox speak on abuse and overcoming obstacles as an entrepreneur. But Casey wasn’t the only one to kill it on stage. Jeff Rollon, the president of Y.E.S. (Young Entrepreneur Society), spoke on how Y.E.S. impacts the lives of students. Without any break for the Stegela and Life By Design crews, we jumped right into MSB (Massive Success Breakthrough). This three-day conference was not only a fantastic experience for our team to put on, but was also filled with incredible breakthroughs in attendee’s businesses and lives. All three days we enjoyed amazing speakers such as Caleb and Matt Maddix, John Spencer Ellis, Mark Lack, Kevin Stimpson, and Nicholas Bayerle. Not to mention all of the Stegela Success Mastery members who spoke! We at Life By Design are proud of Dave Evans, Jeff Rollon, Rommel Cabal, Lynda West, and Steve Meim for inspiring those at Massive Success Breakthrough. If you missed this fantastic event, make sure to get the videos to achieve a breakthrough of your own! Our last event of February was the Speaker Open Mic Night! This event is all about getting up and improving your speaking. So many amazing speakers came out and received valuable feedback on how to improve their speaking and make a more significant impact on the world. February was an amazing month for us at Life By Design Magazine. We cannot wait to see what fantastic events will come this month!

WHAT IS YES? YES stands for Young Entrepreneur Society. We are a California Nonprofit 501(c)(3) that serves high schools on a weekly basis. Every week our team of volunteers hosts school clubs during their lunch breaks to bring them FREE lunch & activities, speakers, and videos around the spirit of entrepreneurship.

WHY YES? Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death in teens between 13 and 18. Depression and anxiety are the number 1 and 2 mental illnesses suffered among students in high school. 1 out of 6 teens have seriously considered suicide. 1 out of 12 have attempted suicide. 78% of students have started drinking alcohol. 42.5% of students have used drugs. Of that, 25% have used hard drugs such as cocaine, LSD, and Ecstasy. 50% of students have been bullied online. Every 26 seconds a student drops out of high school. We believe this is due to lack of purpose and lack of vision. Our team comes in every week to bring the spirit of entrepreneurship to give hope and vision for their future! We focus on goal setting, personal development, budgeting, serving, team building, etc.

GET INVOLVED! We are looking entrepreneurs, business professionals and companies who will become financial parters with YES on a monthly basis to impact the students of San Diego! By being a financial partner, we invite you to speak to our students, have your logo placed in our monthly magazine articles (10,000 print distribution monthly) and invite you to our yearly gala & networking mixer.
