NOTE FROM the Editor...

Wallpaper has never been more popular, and as we celebrate 25 years of wallpaperdirect. The journey has been an incredible one, and one I am proud to have been a part of since day one! Our customers continue to love the new brands we bring to you, and some of our older favourites, like Morris & Co., continue to inspire a new generation of wallpaper users!

The biggest change I have seen since the launch of wallpaperdirect is in the quality of the paper. With the ability to now paste the wall it gives so much freedom to decorating spaces, without the need for a pasting table. I will always choose ‘paste the wall’ paper for my own home, and as it is also easier to remove, it makes changing the look of a room more frequently, a joy – and yes, I always hang my own wallpaper! I love murals too which create such a stunning impact, again paste the wall makes them easy to hang.

I am delighted that we are launching “Timothy Wilman Home” a new brand collaboration for us, honing in on Tim’s design skills, and our knowledge of the market and trends. I hope you will like it. We had fun shooting the photography and making video content which will inspire you to try new things.

25 years – gone in a flash – but how lucky have I been.

Happy decorating!

A DESIGN RETREAT

IDYLLIC BY HARLEQUIN

Immerse yourself in a unique blend of art and nature with Idyllic, a collection that embodies Harlequin’s obsession with colour. With a palette that’s always on the cutting edge and textures that are as soft as a dream, Idyllic offers a fresh interpretation of nature’s beauty.

From subtle hints of femininity to bold Art Deco influences, and even garden-inspired prints, Idyllic’s wallpapers bring the beauty of nature to life. These wallpapers present a contemporary take on the natural world through large and small scales, crisp grounds, and layers of texture, brought to life in refreshed colours. Hand-painted in the studio, Harlequin’s

designers work with palettes that can transform not just the physical space but also the ambience.

Originally a fabric from the Harlequin studio, Tree Tops has been surface-printed to translate beautifully onto the wall. Saturated tones of blue and green blur the lines between classic forms and something more dream-like, revealing itself as a hazy memory of tree canopies in vivid colour.

Closer to the ground, Fleur de Joie is an archival design reimagined by Harlequin. It features a beautiful flowering carnation that takes centre stage in this rotary-printed wallpaper. Delicate yet impactful by design scale, this is a floral with a life of its own.

Fleur de Joie

Locronan, a grand trellis-style design, emulates a loose basket weave in this wide-width wallpaper. Fresh and preppy colours pop against the crisp background for a statement wallpaper that can be interpreted in many design schemes.

Flora Daly, Designer at Harlequin, comments, “Idyllic, as a collection, is fresh yet whimsical, indulging in a dreamlike mood for interiors. By taking recognisable elements from nature and colour-drenching them, we’ve created an invigorating collection through a fresh take on design.”

All wallpaper from this collection has been printed in the UK on substrates from sustainable, traceable sources as part of Sanderson Design Group’s Live Beautiful mission and its Zero by 30 commitment.

Step into Idyllic, where new colour combinations, curated by Harlequin, create a calming retreat.

GP & J Baker and Kit Kemp Design Studio unveiled a captivating and colourful Wallpaper Collection ‘GP & J Baker x Kit Kemp’

This partnership introduces a contemporary wallpaper collection that seamlessly blends Kit’s signature, eclectic, colourful style with GP & J Baker’s design expertise and rich Heritage.

Seven outstanding wallpaper designs are included in the collection. Knight’s Tale, an original GP & J Baker design dating back to the late 1920s. Inspired by mid-16th century crewel work, this archival piece depicts a romantic pastoral scene with leaping deer in a forest glade. Kit’s fresh and vibrant reinterpretation of this archival design moves it forward with a modern flourish and is available in six colourways, adding a contemporary twist to a classic design.

A highlight design is Robina’s Dinner Party, a whimsical masterpiece celebrating ceramicist Robina Jack’s hand-painted folkloric plates depicting friendly creatures surrounded by a riot of intricate patterns. It takes the craft to another level of creativity from ceramics to wallpaper.

Ann Grafton, Managing and Creative Director at GP & J Baker said about the collaboration, “This collection brings together the best of both world’s: Kit’s unique, contemporary flair and GP &J Baker’s renowned creative and design skills.

The collection is a joyous celebration of a great collaboration of design ideas and reflects a true shared passion for fantastic contemporary and heritage textiles and wallpapers. It embodies a forward-looking and modern approach whilst respecting traditional techniques.

Knight’s Tale

Kit is a master of effortlessly mixing pattern, colour and craftsmanship in her unique style. Her passion for textiles and exceptional design skills and renowned eye for detail in spotting talented artists and artisans shines through in this collaboration.“

Robina’s Dinner Party

Tall Trees is one of Kit Kemp’s iconic designs. A spectacular large scale wallpaper mural design originally painted by Melissa White, now available in several colourways. This magical design was inspired by a walk through woodland on a misty morning and features fantastical birds, rabbits and dragons amongst bluebells, oak and horse chestnut trees.

Potato Print is a graphic tribute to one of Kit’s favourite pop artists Joe Tilson, who was still working and breaking rules in the world of printmaking into his 90s; whist ‘ Wriggle Room ’ is a charming, joyful squiggle in fresh colour combinations featuring playful, painterly marks sure to bring life to any room.

Finally, Front Row takes inspiration from an antique tapestry. Full of texture, the design depicts the intricate beadwork, appliqué and stitch work of the craftsman whilst the contemporary colour combinations keep the design modern and fresh. This rich patterned design is available in two contemporary colour combinations chosen to celebrate the abundant distant lands where these textiles were originally found.

Borastapeter is a historic brand dating back to the early 1900s when Waldemar Andrén founded the brand with his vision that “all Swedes should be able to afford to create a more beautiful home with the aid of wallpaper.”

Ingrid Marie Dahlia Garden

More than a century later, both Boråstapeter and the world around us have evolved, and to reflect the increasing internationalisation of the brand, they have updated the original vision to “Drawing inspiration from our Swedish heritage, we create wallpapers for every home.”

And these are some of the recent designs which we here in the wallpaperdirect office feel truly represent this Swedish heritage feel.

The Ingrid Marie wallpaper brings the beauty of Mother Nature into contemporary homes. The hand painted

imagery of an apple tree in all seasons, from the first buds of blossom to sun ripened fruit, adds a charming rustic element to even the simplest interior. Ideal for hanging in your living room, kitchen, or dining area perhaps?

Dahlia Garden brings to life the luscious beauty of late summer days with an intricate landscape of flowers and foliage creating a vintage feel that is effortlessly elegant and sophisticated.

While with its naturalistic colour palette and sophisticated design, the Midsummer Eve wallpaper is inspired by the Swedish tradition of picking flowers and placing them under your pillow in order to dream of your future love.

Midsummer Eve

Set on a dark petrol blue background with hues of pink, green, deep burgundy, rusty orange, cool blue and warm yellow, the Blomsterhav wallpaper lets Nature take centre stage. Imagine a small flowering glade in the middle of the tranquil and cosy forest darkness. Using a collagraph print effect, this wallpaper designed by Noomi Spange is wonderfully dramatic, rich and vibrant.

Coloured in fresh and light sage green and beige, the Under the Elder Tree wallpaper is full of harmonious and calming character. Again designed by

Noomi Spange, the pattern has a beautiful elder tree standing tall, offering shade and sanctuary to the forest fauna. From the timid hare and crafty fox to the stately deer and fleeing pheasants, each animal has a story to tell.

From a distance the pattern flows harmoniously and subtly across the walls, get a little closer and your eye is drawn into the delightful surprises and drama of forest life.

All these designs in their full colour ranges and many others are available on wallpaperdirect.com to discover and sample.

COORDONNÉ

Once upon a time, a civilisation thrived in the Sahara Desert, nestled between the mountain ranges separating the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. This was the home of the Berber people, known for their resilience and rich cultural heritage.

In this harsh yet majestic landscape, the Berber elders played a crucial role in preserving their culture. They imparted the values of craftsmanship and tradition to the younger generations, teaching them the importance of family and manual labour. Under the vast, starry Saharan skies, the sounds of drums and flutes filled the air, celebrating their communal bond and enduring spirit.

The Berber people, or Amazigh, were skilled artisans. Their expert craftsmanship was evident in their beautifully crafted fabrics, ceramics, and jewellery. Women were the guardians of the needle and loom, creating intricate designs that told stories of their lineage and beliefs. Their homes, built from mud and stone, blended seamlessly with the Moroccan landscape, reflecting a civilisation rich in character and history.

Inspired by this heritage, Coordonné introduces the Berber collection, a new line of high-quality wallpaper. This collection features a natural texture and is made from 100% non-woven material, paying homage to those who protect their ancestral roots. The Bamboo Quality (B) wallpaper by Coordonné combines the finest artisan craftsmanship with modern benefits.

The Bamboo Quality wallpaper offers the following advantages:

• Fire-retardant properties: Ensuring safety in homes and public spaces.

• Washability: Easy to clean, maintaining its beauty over time.

• Sustainability: Made from eco-friendly materials, respecting the environment.

The wallpaper’s design is inspired by natural fibres and resembles a braid, giving it a handmade appearance. It features visible joins, reminiscent of the Japanese tradition of covering walls and ceilings with bamboo mats, adding a touch of elegance and authenticity.

Coordonné’s Bamboo Quality wallpaper is more than just a decorative element; it is a tribute to the timeless artistry and cultural legacy of the Berber people. It encapsulates their spirit and traditions, bridging the gap between ancient heritage and contemporary innovation.

Together, the Berber and Lattise collections by Coordonné celebrate both cultural heritage and modern design, providing high-quality, aesthetically pleasing wallpaper options that cater to a wide range of tastes and interior design needs.

As a family business, based in Barcelona, Spain they have a holistic commitment to their work. Not just sustainability and their environmental footprint, but on a day-to-day basis and over time to their workers, suppliers and customers all working in the same direction to respect the environment and themselves.

Wallcovering: Willow Boughs Dado

Heritage brands Lincrusta and Morris & Co. have collaborated to transform three iconic William Morris patterns into textured, embossed wallcoverings.

Crafted from linseed oil in the Lincrusta factory in Lancashire, these new interpretations breathe new life into Morris’s patterns while preserving their integrity.

Lincrusta and Morris & Co. share a dedication to craftsmanship, honest materials, and sustainable values. Historically, Frederick Walton invented Linoleum in 1860, just a year before William Morris founded Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. in 1861. Although their paths likely never crossed, Morris experimented with embossed wallpaper techniques, as seen in his 1886 Chrysanthemum Toile design. Today, Morris & Co. wallpapers often complement Lincrusta dado panels and ceilings, making this collaboration a natural evolution.

Of the collection Jessica Clayworth, Lead Designer of the Morris & Co. studio comments: .

‘It has been an exciting collaboration with Lincrustra. Their deep understanding of our design ethos, coupled with a genuine sensitivity towards the authenticity of the original documents, made it an obvious and seamless partnership. Given William Morris’s pioneering work with Japanese leather papers, the decision to join forces was a natural one. Witnessing our designs spring to life in a manner that both breathes new life into them and remains steadfast to their heritage has been nothing short of remarkable.”

Unlike traditional Morris wallpapers built up with layers of colour, these new interpretations emphasize texture. Each pattern required the creation of a new hand-engraved steel roller.

A new design, the Willow Boughs Dado, co-created with Lincrusta, combines the classic Willow Boughs (1887) and Diaper (1870) patterns for an exquisite panel perfect beneath traditional chair rails.

Fruit is one of Morris & Co.’s most recognised patterns, and according to the Jeffrey & Co. logbooks it was only the third design printed by Morris. The print showcases ripened pomegranates hanging from an overflowing tree, with fine-printed branches in the background adding depth.

And Acanthus created in 1875, another iconic Morris pattern, featuring dramatic, three-dimensional scrolling acanthus foliage. The pattern can adapt to contemporary settings depending on the chosen paint colours.

Lincrusta wallcoverings offer limitless bespoke options, whether painted in classic Morris & Co. chalky hues for elegance or reimagined in bold colour combinations for a fresh take on these iconic patterns –the choices are yours and limited only by your imagination!

All three of these new Lincrusta designs and the full range are available to sample at wallpaperdirect.com.

ASK Richard

OUR INHOUSE DECORATING EXPERT

Why does my paper come off the roll the wrong way round?

The direction your wallpaper comes off the roll is not fixed, it depends on how many processes or colours have been applied during production as to where it ends its journey.

The paper will travel through the rollers in one direction, to have one colour applied and then back the other way to have a second colour and so on. So, depending on how many processes are in the design, it will dictate which way the pattern ends up on the finished roll.

So, we would always recommend you (or your decorator) doublecheck which way you would like the design to be placed on your wall. There is often an element of personal choice in this decision, however we always recommend referring to our website imagery for further clarity. And at the same time, check the whole length of the roll for any errors, and perhaps also back roll the paper at this stage to flatten some of the curve of the paper from being tightly rolled, before you mark it out for cutting.

What to do if you find an error?

Please contact us right away. We are always happy to discuss replacing rolls and the sooner you let us know, the quicker the problem can be resolved.

When returning goods because of a fault, firstly please send us an e-mail to the Wallpaperdirect Customer Service team at returns@wallpaperdirect.com as it may not be necessary to return the wallpaper. Please check our FAQs for full information on how and where to return goods. We’re here to help ensure your decorating experience is smooth and enjoyable.
