Olympus, Pentax and Canon Bring Out The Big Guns PEN-F Key Features:

T

he PEN-F includes a 5-axis Image Stabilisation system (worth some 5 EV stops when shooting at low ISO), a 50-Megapixel high- resolution shot capability, and a built-in electronic viewfinder with a real-time preview of settings adjustments. Combined with a new 20-Megapixel Live MOS image sensor that lacks a low pass filter, the Image Stabilisation system enables longer exposure times at low ISO settings. The new sensor provides 25% better resolution, while maintaining low-noise and dynamic-range performance. The built-in electronic viewfinder includes focusing assistance with focus peaking and image magnification of 0.62x. The EVF has a large, high-definition OLED display with 2.36 million-dot resolution, which shows a real- time preview of any adjustments to settings, such as those accessible via the new Creative Dial. Olympus has been well known for its creative variety, and this new camera, with its Creative Dial embodies this with fast, no-look access to four settings, two of which are new to the PEN range: Monochrome Profile Control and Colour Profile Control. The first offers gradation-curve, film-grain, shading adjustment and black-andwhite filter effects with three available presets. Colour Profile Control also comes with three presets and affects the gradation curve. It can be used to adjust the saturation of 12 colours to 11 different levels. A lever mounted at the

back of the camera easily switches between different modes. The Eye Detect AF feature and touch-panel access to point focusing means autofocus is fast and reliable, whilst the high-speed sequential shooting up to 10 fps makes it easy to track fast moving objects. Linking AF spot metering to the AF target means exposure is adjusted accordingly, whilst the High Res Shot bumps resolution up to the equivalent of 50 Megapixels. The metal dial is a prominent feature of the much-vaunted PEN school of design, which blends contemporary and retro style elements together with high quality craftsmanship. The Olympus design team has clearly gone to great lengths to make the PEN-F a potential style icon worthy of the original. Pricing and availability This camera is available in black or silver from the end of February 2016 at an RRP (including VAT) of £999.99 for the PEN-F body; £1099.99 for the PEN-F and M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 14-42mm 1-3.5-5.6 EZ Pancake lens kit; and £1199.99 for the PEN-F and M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 17mm 1:1.8 lens kit. To celebrate the launch, Olympus are running special PEN-F in-store events at a selection of retailers. Photographers can pre-book at 20 minute session with Olympus, and get hands on with the PEN-F.

RECENT LAUNCHES Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II

Canon EOS-1D X Mark II Canon recently premiered this next flagship DSLR boasting a new benchmark for speed – shooting 14 frames per second (fps) with full AF/ AE tracking and 16 fps in Live View mode. Developed using feedback from the worldwide community of EOS-1D X photographers, the EOS-1D X Mark II features a new 20.2 MP full frame CMOS sensor and new Al Servo AF III+, as well as 4K video capture up to 60p. In addition, it facilitates low lighting conditions, with a wide ISO range of 100 to 51200, expandable from 50 up to 409600. Under flickering light such as fluorescents, using a faster shutter speed may result in irregular exposures and colours due to the light’s flicker frequency. The EOS-1D X Mark II – like the EOS 7D Mark II, EOS 5DS R and EOS 5DS – detects the frequency of light sources and adapts the shooting timings to capture the image near peak brightness to reduce flicker effects. This function works with a flicker frequency of 100Hz and 120Hz, and has an improved algorithm to prevent the incorrect detection of flickering light. The camera features an improved 61-point AF system with 41 cross-type AF points, which covers an expanded area and focuses under low light up to -3EV. The new AF system also offers f/8 AF support with all 61 points, working in partnership with a new 360k RGB+IR metering sensor, providing accurate exposure and improved subject detection. The EOS-1D X Mark II hosts a new Dual DIGIC 6+ processor and offers film-makers the option of shooting 4K (4096x2160) in a variety of frame rates up to 60fps to the CFast 2.0™ card. It also enables Full HD (1920x1080p) movie shooting at 120fps, whilst moments from a 60fps 4K scene can be extracted as a highresolution 8.8MP still. Plus, with the combination of Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology and Movie Servo AF, and touch panel LCD, smooth and easy shooting is highly promised.

On the new release, Daniel Benjamin, Head of Product Marketing at Canon UK & Ireland said: “We are very excited about the launch of the EOS-1D X Mark II. It has been introduced to meet the changing demands of professional photographers, especially those shooting news, sport and wildlife. The EOS-1D X was launched four years ago and since then, the pace photographers need to work to and submit images has meant they need a faster workflow. “The EOS-1D X was a quantum leap for the professional DSLR market. Building on the success of its predecessor, the EOS1D X Mark II has been developed following feedback from existing EOS-1D X photographers and combines a range of innovative imaging technologies. The operational improvements will, on a day-to-day basis, make a major difference to the workflow of professional photographers. We believe these desirable updates, along with the improvements to resolution, AF system and frame rates, makes the EOS-1D X Mark II the ultimate choice for professional photographers shooting high speed subjects.” On the reaction so far from dealers, who will get a first look at the EOS-1D X Mark II at The Photography Show stand, Daniel commented: “Pre-orders so far have been better than anticipated and this is helped by our dealers’ positive reaction to the product.” He added: “We work closely with our professional imaging partners and retailers to bring this product to market. For customers that pre-order before 30th June 2016 via our selected retailers, we are offering a free 64GB CFast 2.0 card and Reader worth over £300.” EOS-1D X Mark II Key Features: • New 20.2 MP full frame CMOS sensor. • AF precision - improved 61-point AF system with 41 cross-type AF points. • 4K video capture up to 60p.

Canon unveils the PowerShot G7 X Mark II, a powerhouse compact camera that builds on the acclaimed PowerShot G7 X, the PowerShot G7 X Mark II. This is the first camera to include Canon’s new DIGIC 7 processor, and is coupled with a 1.0-type 20.1 megapixel CMOS sensor and 4.2x optical zoom lens. Canon’s next generation DIGIC 7 adds substantially improved image processing power and enables super-fast AF speeds and 8 fps RAW continuous shooting. The EOS-like Auto

Lighting Optimiser also improves contrast by providing natural correction while maintaining balanced brightness and darkness. The camera hosts an improved optical Image Stabilizer with Dual Sensing IS technology, plus the Lens Control Ring gives the user customisable access to settings. For accurate focusing, MF Peaking immediately highlights what is in focus, visible in an instant on the tiltup touch screen. The PowerShot G7 X Mark II captures Full HD movies with full manual control and improved subject tracking. A Brief History of Swains: In December 2015 at the Pixel Trade awards, we posthumously handed the Outstanding Contribution to the Industry award to Chris Swain. Here seems like a great opportunity to revisit the heritage of the company and of the industry legend himself. The Swain name has been associated with photography since 1910 when Chris Swain’s grandfather, Percy opened Smith Studios in Loughborough. His sons, Ernest and Arthur, expanded the business, becoming ‘Smudgers’ and in 1937 eventually opened a shop in Hunstanton. Ernest’s third child was born in 1945 – Christopher James Swain. Like his father, Chris developed a keen interest in photography and in 1964 travelled to Jersey to work in a processing lab. He stayed there until 1970 when he decided to move back to Hunstanton and join his father, taking over the business fully in 1975 when

Ernest retired. Chris turned the business into a wholesale distribution company employing a National Sales Force. Peter Chambers, a former employee of Polaroid, joined the team as Sales Director and In 1989 Chris expanded his management team and Alan Comer and Danny Williams joined the fold. The Swains Trade Shows, and there were over 30 of them, became a trade only event, not to be missed, with one held in Spring and another in Winter of each year. The Photography Show: Latest News

Pixel brings you all you need to know in the lead up to the Photography Show 2016, including some disappointing news of Bowens’ last minute withdrawal from the event

T

he lead up to the Photography Show 2016 has been rife with news, updates, announcements and new launches. Equally, those who have stands are waiting with baited breath to show off their latest releases. Nikon UK will be showcasing their recently launched D5 and D500, a range of COOLPIX models and NIKKOR lenses among their other products in the DSLR range. Central to the Nikon stand will be the Nikon School stage, where a host of prominent photographers will be giving talks, including Nikon UK Ambassadors, Kate Hopewell-Smith, renowned for her lifestyle and wedding photography and David Yarrow. Canon will be presenting the EOS 5D Mark III and EF lenses, and also for the first time, a dedicated Canon Live Stage featuring speakers including Canon Explorers Andy Rouse, Simeon Quarrie and Christian Anderl. Plus, Panasonic, Olympus, Fujifilm, Sony, Leica, Manfrotto, Blackmagic, Epson, Ricoh Imaging and Serif will be on stands among many others presenting their latest products. However, a shock for us at Pixel and a huge

will have fully working units available – not just renderings, plans and prototypes.” The Bowens team apologises unreservedly but still maintains that the new products will be worth the wait – no pressure! John Gass, Technical Director said: “Generation X is the result of a major acceleration of our R&D programme, combined with a deep analysis of what our customers have been telling us they need to compete in today’s commercial environment. These new products are going to be unbeatable in their class in terms of functionality, aesthetics and of course, cost.” The organisers of the show, Future Plc and the PR team at Good Results commented: “While it’s a disappointment for us [the show] and the Bowens customers that they won’t have their products available, there is plenty more on for the professional photographers. There will still be a networking lounge for Pro’s too.” In other news, this year the show is providing an opportunity for visitors to step into the limelight, launching a new competition giving amateur-come-pro photographers the chance to win a pro career fast track package worth £15,000. In partnership with Training byLUMIERE, the competition will seek to find one talented individual, who wants to make the transition to becoming a professional photographer, with access to advice, six months of training, a brand, website and essential kit plus a real understanding of what it will take to make it as a professional photographer. Entrants are asked to submit a 60 second video demonstrating why they think they should win before entering into a range of challenges at the event itself on Tuesday 22 March. With the show taking place within the same month as International Women’s Day, the Women in Photography panel at The Photography Show 2016 will bring together Max Houghton, Marcia Michel, Vicki Churchill and Juno Calypso; a dynamic collection of women, each with their own perspective and experience as a woman working within the field of photography. Introduced by Anna Fox, Professor of Photography at the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham, and chaired by Senior Lecturer of Photography Natasha Caruana, the panel will discuss a range of topics including the ways in which women should network and share to promote their work, how to engage and get ahead across multiple fields, and the all-important questions of whether or not breaking the ‘glass ceiling’ is still relevant. Commenting on her involvement with the Women in Photography panel, Natasha Caruana said: “I am excited to chair this important panel which gives a voice and offers an opportunity to discuss female photographers working within the male dominated photographic industries. The panel brings together perspectives from art, photojournalism, education and commerce to interrogate their position and give advice to other females working within the industry.”

BEHIND THE COUNTER

Behind The Counter

Pixel’s Behind The Counter section shines the spotlight on counter-staff to delve into the daily life of photo retail Chris Robinson, Head of Customer Relations

Behind the Counter turns the spotlight on counter staff in photographic shops across the country with a mix of silly and (slightly more) pertinent questions. Here, ‘counter’ staff at MPB have kindly provided the answers you’ve been dying to know. If you own/run/work in a camera shop and you’d like to get involved, please email jenny@pixel.co.uk If you could have any camera equipment you wanted for free, what would it be? I would love to own a RED Digital Cinema Camera. Although my fort’e really is photography, I would love to explore creating video with a RED Camera. The footage is incredible and they’re such powerful cameras. I haven’t seen any other camera capture such incredible detail and amazing picture quality. Black and white or colour photography? I would have to pick black and white as that’s what I mostly shoot. I don’t dislike colour photography, but I just love the classic and simple look of a black and white photograph that I don’t feel you get as much with colour. I’ve always felt that shooting in black and white keeps the process uncomplicated and allows you to really focus on the subject in your photographs. What’s your opinion of ‘selfies’? ‘Selfies’ aren’t really my thing, but if it’s a way people can enjoy photography and have fun then that can only be a good thing.

16 www.pixel.co.uk

Clare Anderson, Marketing and Content Assistant

What’s your favourite thing to take pictures of? I’m a bit of an explorer when it comes to photography; I like to go on long walks and find abandoned and derelict buildings to take pictures of. Though I know most would say they like to shoot in summer, I much prefer shooting during the colder months. I like it when there’s less people and other distractions around. What got you into photography in the first place? I always took an interest in photography from a young age, and was given my first DSLR as a birthday present a few years ago. At first I would take photos of friends and family, exploring different angles and zoom lengths. Once I had got to grips with my DSLR, I would take my camera out with me on walks and bike rides and try and expand my skills; photographing anything that caught my eye and I found interesting. I improved a lot and grew to really love photography, which I still do now. Do you rely on customers to gain used items or do you get them from the manufacturer? They all come from our customers. We have a very loyal following and once customers have sold to us once they tend to use us again for selling and trading in future. Have you particularly seen an increase in popularity for action cameras in recent years? We’ve seen GoPro really take off, and recently more established brands are getting into the game. These cameras are really versatile and great value, so it’s easy to see why they’d be so popular.

Neil Laws, Chief Marketing Officer

Do you see the Smartphone market as a threat to traditional camera sales? I only see it as a threat to sales of the very low-level point and shoot cameras. I think, if anything, the development of camera technology in smartphones has made photography more accessible and popular with a wider market, and that has helped the DSLR and mirrorless market as enthusiasts want to take their photography to the next level. What new camera or camera equipment releases have excited you in the past year? I would say the long awaited ultra-highresolution 50.6-megapixel full-frame Canon 5DS R and 5DS got us excited. It was a number of years since Canon updated that range and we just knew it would be popular amongst the Canon fans. The transition between Photo and Video around this time is something which also got us excited. We wanted to see how and if Canon would move more into the Video side of things. Sony, with the A7 range, have also got us talking a fair bit! How do you make buying and selling equipment easier for enthusiasts? For sellers, we make the process as simple as possible, with only a quick form to fill in. We arrange free courier collection on a suitable day and make sure payment is made as quickly as possible. For buyers, we make the experience of buying used just as it would be for buying new. Every individual product is photographed and condition rated, and everything comes with a six month warranty. www.mpb.com

levels of service that we have been recognised for providing.” Nigel Atherton, Editor of Amateur Photographer commented: “At Amateur Photographer we test more cameras and accessories than any other magazine, putting the latest kit through its paces to determine its strengths and weaknesses and who it would be most suitable for. It’s a task that we perform with a rigour and objectiveness that is rare in the industry. To do this on a weekly basis is a feat that is unequalled by any other magazine in the world. The end result is that the products which rise to the top of the heap by winning one of our awards really are best of their kind.” Jason Heward, Managing Director, Leica UK said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have received the award for ‘Premium Compact Camera of the Year’ for the Leica Q, as well as the nominations for the Leica SL. Our philosophy has always been to provide the best possible camera making the best possible image, and it is an honour to see this recognised in the Q and SL. The AP Awards are highly regarded by customers, and within the industry, and this accolade is inspiring to receive. The Leica Q and SL are already incredibly popular cameras and both have been in demand since launch, and this reinforces their credentials even further. Thank you to the Amateur Photographer team for voting for Leica!”

in print with sophisticated print solutions for both independent retailer and multinational brands alike, in particular in accordance with our growing campaign drive – encouraging print of all types. Consumers are no longer looking to just print their images, they are looking to find the best solutions, the best quality and the biggest output at the best price. Equally, retailers are looking for eye-catching POS, the best printed marketing and signage and the best facilities to be able to provide their customers with what they want and need. Our philosophy is about combining our practices to filter the idea of print from top to bottom – manufacturer to retailer; retailer to consumer. At the show, Epson will show its latest range of professional SureColor printers and demonstrate the many new features that combine to deliver quality, production performance and ink use efficiency for the signage and display graphics sector. There will be live demonstrations of Epson’s three new professional 64-inch SureColor SC-S large-format printers: the 10-colour SC-S80600, the high speed CMYK x 2 SC-S60600 and the 4-colour SC-S40600 – highlighting exceptional print quality on even the cheapest monomeric vinyl and best use of Epson’s new formulation UltraChrome GS3 inkset including red, white and metallic for accurate and consistent corporate colour match signage. The new range offers print service providers (PSPs) a choice of printers from 4-10 colours (including white and metallic) and quality modes for backlit panels, POS materials, vehicle wraps, wallpaper and canvases, and up to 95.3sqm/hr single-pass productivity for exhibition/display graphics. Alongside a substantial reduction in ink price, PSPs should experience significant lower ink consumption as a result of the improved chemistry in the new GS3 inkset. The result for users will be a big improvement in total cost of ownership compared to other printer options on the market. Also making an appearance on the Epson booth is the 36-inch SureColor SCT5200MFP 4-colour, large-format printer, with colour scanner and copy facility. This printer is perfectly placed for the high-speed production of POS and high-quality, quickprint applications such as high-quality posters, prints and graphics – outputting an A1 print for example takes just 28 seconds! Phil McMullin, Sales Manager, ProGraphics, Epson (UK), says: “Exhibiting at Sign & Digital offers Epson the perfect opportunity to present its latest range of printers and inkset to the signage and display graphics market. With a strong focus on showing companies how they can broaden the range of high-quality printed products they produce using the new printhead, ink and printer design technology, we will also show how they can maximise their production capabilities and their profits.” Also at the show, the Business Theatre offers up daily sessions on how you can develop and progress your business. Hosted by Terry Steeley, the Adobe Theatre is back with daily sessions using the latest editions of Adobe software, covering how to get started with Adobe Bridge CC, how to take control of colour in Adobe Creative Suite, plus talks on using Adobe Photoshop CC, InDesign CC and Illustrater CC. Daily sessions in the Corel Theatre are designed for the signmaking and garment personalisation markets and offer updates and advice on the latest features. alisbury Photo Centre has been in business for 16 years now. We have managed to tackle all the technological advancements that the trade has had over those years. When we started, digital was at the early stages for the high street photo lab. I used to work for a professional photography company - where I was lab manger - printing up to exhibition sizes. We had gone digital before I started here, so had already gained experience with large format printing and high-end digital cameras. Business has been good. Salisbury had 4 interdependent photo labs plus Boots when we started, now it’s just us and Boots. We try to offer a helpful, polite, efficient service, making sure everything is done on time and correctly. Customer satisfaction is most important if you want them to come back and tell friends about their favourite photolab - even if it means working late myself. I have always tried to offer more services than the competition, learning new skills along the way: canvas printing, photo gifts, video transfers - the list has grown. 16 years ago the biggest print we did in store was A4 ! Now we have an Epson 9900 44” so we print A0. Outputting to two Fujifilm Frontier-S DX100 drylab printers so we could offer an instant print

service has meant we have had to redecorate and do a complete shop fit. That has meant more late nights but ‘no pain no gain’ as they say. We had the latest Fujifilm Imagine kiosks installed a few months ago with instant printers Dl100 frontiers: they are a fantastic printers. Customers have loved the prints, which prompted us to go the whole hog and get the Frontier DL650 Drylab as well so that we could print up to 12” wide. With the Fujifilm Imagine software I think we are complete. The Fujifilm Imagine software is a powerful tool which will let us offer the best service in town. With the panoramic printing capabilities on the dry lab, I want to corner that end of the market, as I think it is neglected by a lot of labs. The possibilities of selling a print and frame as a package, also art paper through the dry lab, mean we can offer bigger quantity discounts to local artist and photographer customers who already print lots of art paper prints. Regarding biggest sales over the last year, we do get orders for 100 prints or frames from a couple of customers, but the best jobs are when we print and frame up a whole exhibition for people. Then going to the private view gives me the best satisfaction. In fact we’ve just done one of about 40 photos which will

We want to showcase to consumers what they can do when they download the mobile app and utilise Fujifilm Imagine. Consumers are changing the way they purchase which is why this is important to FDIS retailers. They are spending more time on mobile platforms and there is a rise in social e-commerce with the addition of buy buttons on social media platforms. The more we all share the page, get more impressions and increase awareness, the more people will download the app and purchase from their nearest FDIS stores. Please like/share the Facebook page and follow us on Twitter. be on show in May. We also print the invites and posters for that gallery. One of the secrets to running any business is listening to customer needs and addressing them; diversifying the business if needed, keeping on learning new services to offer to the customers, always getting the jobs done on time, being polite, friendly and helpful, and having good staff who have the same values in customer relations. Never sit back - keep pushing the business in this fast moving world we live in. Put yourself in the customer’s shoes and think, would you use your photolab yourself? We’re out there encouraging people to print – not just for our benefit, but really for theirs too.

BOOKS OF THE MONTH

BOOKS OF THE MONTH ONE SECOND OF LIGHT

G

iles Duley’s ‘One Second of Light’ is the incredible new book, born from an unlikely set of circumstances, spanning the last couple of decades. Having worked much of the nineties as an editorial fashion and music photographer, he produced work for such publications as GQ, Vogue, Esquire, Arena and Select Magazines photographing the likes of Kings of Leon, Oasis, Mariah Carey, The Black Crowes, Lenny Kravitz, Christian Bale and the Candys. His portrait of Marilyn Manson was voted by Q Magazine as one of the ‘Greatest Rock Photographs Of All Time’. After a spell away from photography, Giles returned, choosing to document the much less glitzy, lesser-known stories of humanity, suffering and resilience from around the world. It was in 2011, whilst documenting the civilian impact of war in Afghanistan, Giles was to ‘become the story’ after he stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). He lost both legs and his left arm. He survived, and after 18 months, more than 30 operations and a world of rehabilitation, he was determined to continue working. And he did. The Channel 4 documentary ‘Return to the Frontline’ about Giles’ return to Afghanistan to finish his project has won the award for Best International Current Affairs Documentary (2013) by the Association for International Broadcasting and the Foreign Press Association (FPA) Award for TV Documentary Story of the Year (2013). Giles has since covered stories from Angola, Ukraine, Lebanon, South Sudan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Jordan and many more, working with NGO’s such as Mine Advisory Group, EMERGENCY, Medicins Sans Frontieres, International Organisation for Migration, Handicap International, Save the Children and UNHCR. One Second Of Light is a book of photographs from Giles, created over the past decade. It’s not a retrospective, but rather an anthology of stories; moments that let us glimpse into the lives of others. Whilst the photographs are created in places of conflict and disaster, these are not images of victims or events, but moments of life and normality, scenes that we can all relate to. They are stories about shared humanity. “When putting this book together,” said Giles, “I became fascinated by the question of time. Most of my images are taken at 1/60 sec or 1/125 second, which means when you put this whole collection together, the reality

is they only add up to a second of light. A second that gives insight into other lives, but also makes us question how much we don’t see. I see myself as a storyteller, and this book represents my reflections on the most powerful stories I’ve been entrusted with.”

One Second Of Light is now available through EW Agency and can also be found via Amazon. Hardcover, 117 pages, contributions by Gino Strada, Melissa Fleming, A.L. Kennedy and an interview with Giles Duley conducted by Roger Tatley.

THE THAMES & HUDSON DICTIONARY OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division Washington, D.C. 20540

ith the Internet making an increasing amount of information readily available at the click of a button, it may seem as if the paper dictionary’s place in society is fast becoming obsolete. This is the reason why many people have disengaged with traditional magazines, as found littering many a supermarket shelf. You can just find the information that you need at a touch of a button, right? However, what distinguishes this dictionary from Thames & Hudson and Author, Nathalie Herschdorfer from the bombardment of material found online is the fact that every detail has been painstakingly selected and checked. Authored and verified. Though much information can today be found online, locating it takes time and sources can have questionable provenance and uncertain academic credentials. This publication sets out to reduce the seething mass of information to a structured, orderly and authoritative work of reference. In order to create a dictionary with international scope, 150 consultants from all five continents and 80 researchers have contributed a list of the most important personalities, trends and technologies, producing a book which focuses on the creatives, but also the techniques and subjects that permeate the medium’s narrative. In one single, elegant volume, this publication features over 300 iconic photographs and contains more than 1,200 concise yet fully detailed entries including photographers, images, agencies, genres, movements, exhibitions, publications, collectors, techniques and processes.

The landmark publication from Thames & Hudson is the culmination of ten years of development and research and covers more than 180 years of photographic history. Nathalie Herschdorfer has triumphed in creating the first source of information for all scholars, practitioners and collectors of photography to turn to in the future. Offering an immersive experience, with clear presentation and timeless typographic design, this is a comprehensive, accessible and

authoritative illustrated reference to the history, art and science of photography. We at Hungry Eye heartily recommend it.

The Thames & Hudson Dictionary of Photography, edited by Nathalie Herschdorfer, published by Thames & Hudson, £65.

The SWPP Fujifilm Competition Winner Fujifilm are proud to introduce Dilip Joshi of Dee Jay Photography as the lucky winner of a Frontier-S DX100 Printer and Shiraz Carbon Rip software, worth £3000. Dilip was one of 2200 entries in the Fujifilm competition, run in partnership with the SWPP at this year’s convention. Peter Wigington, Marketing Manager of Fujifilm’s Photo Imaging Group, had this to say: “We’re delighted that we had so

many entries into the competition. The SWPP Convention attracts the very best advanced amateur and professional photographers each year and the Frontier-S DX100 makes such an excellent tool of the trade for so many of them. It’s always a thrill to meet any prizewinner and Dilip was no exception. He was as excited as we are about how his new printer can help with

his wedding and event photography business.” On receiving his prize Dilip said: “I am amazed and delighted to have won the Fujifilm Frontier-S DX100 printer. I never win anything, so this came as a huge surprise! I have spent a considerable amount of time researching this printer and went to the SWPP show in January to find out more. As I’m looking to

expand my professional portfolio later this year, I really wanted to have a printing solution which could offer ‘on the job’ prints, without compromising on image quality or taking too much of my time to output. I’ve been shooting weddings for some time now and the next obvious step is for me to be able to print selected images on the day. I now have this option and I’m very much looking forward to using it as part of my photography kit.”
