David Lihn I began writing about the hotels and resorts in Thailand over a decade ago as an informative addition to my annual golf guide – to alert readers to the diverse places they could stay while visiting the outstanding golf courses I was reporting. And, I discovered, Thailand has a bounty of superb resorts. I was able to research the marvelous options a guest to Thailand has when visiting its cities, beaches, coastlines, mountains, islands and jungles, stretching 2,000 kilometers from the north (the Chiangrai and Changmai highlands), to the south (the Phuket, Krabi and Samui beaches). Countless splendid and diverse choices exist for both the budget or luxury tourist. Many of the resorts are owned by Thai families, who invest their funds, time, hearts and souls into the individual properties. The glorious surprises continued to pop up. The enthusiastic owners reached out to energetic general managers who arrive from all parts of the planet to share their expertise. THAILAND INFORMATION Thailand, the only Southeast Asian nation never to have been colonized by European powers, is a constitutional monarchy whose current head of state is HM Bhumibol Adulyadej. A unified Thai kingdom has existed since the mid-14th century, and Thailand was known as Siam until 1939, when it officially became the Kingdom of Thailand.

Geography Thailand is the 50th largest country in the world; most nearly equal in size to Spain. Located just 15 degrees north of the equator, Thailand has a tropical climate, and temperatures typically range from 19 to 38 degrees C (66-100 F). Thailand’s largest peak, Doi Inthanon, is 2,565 meters (8,415 ft) tall. Thailand covers 510,890 sq km of land and 2,230 sq km of water. The coastline of Thailand is 3,219 km long. Thailand’s longest shared border is with Myanmar (Burma), stretching 1,800 km.
Weather The weather in Thailand is generally hot and humid: typical of its location within the tropics. Generally speaking, Thailand can be divided into three seasons: “hot” season, rainy season and “cool” season, though Thailand’s geography allows visitors to find suitable weather somewhere in the country throughout the year.
People While 80% of Thailand’s population are that, He remeny represent the mix of peoples in souefy. Chinese, Indian, Malay, Mon, Khmer, Burmese and Lao decent. In Bangkok, there is a greater diversity of ethnicities, including a large number of expatriate residents from across the globe. Population The population of Thailand comprises roughly 65 million citizens, the majority of whom are ethnically Thai, though peoples of Chinese, Indian, Malay, Mon, Khmer, Burmese and Lao origin are also represented to varying degrees.
Area Thailand has an approximate geographical area of 514, 000 sq km (200,000 sq miles). This makes Thailand roughly equivalent in size to Spain or Texas. Capital : Bangkok
Language More than 92% of the population speaks Thai or one of it’s regional dialects. While the Thai language is the official language of Thailand, as a result of its cosmopolitan capital city and established tourism infrastructure, English is spoken and understood throughout much of the land.

THAILAND’S CENTRAL REGION Ratchaburi / Suan Phueng This bordering district of Ratchaburi would have fallen off the travellers’ radar had it not been for a string of Mediterranean-themed resorts dotting its mountainous landscape. Most are destinations in themselves, complete with a horse ranch, sheep farm, trickling streams and European gardens. But securing a room at one of these resort farms requires advance planning, as each has only a limited number of rooms and, believe it or not, they fill in very fast.

Just a quick train ride or drive from Bangkok Ayutthaya is a must see Unesco World Heritage site, dotting the landscape with centuries old temples. Reminiscent of times past, Ayutthaya was once home to the capitol of the ancient Siam kingdom that existed from 1351 to 1767. Try to visit 9 temples in one day for an added boost of luck and good fortune.
Kanchanaburi province, located a few hours from Bangkok offers a plethora of activities for Travelers. Some include a visit to the infamous River Kwai, The World War memorial museum and cemetery, as well as Hellfire Pass are major draws for day activities. Be sure to see Erawan falls, one of the largest and most beautiful waterfalls in Thailand. This province burgeons more and more each year, popular with local and foreign tourist for its renowned riverside weekends in floating hotels.

THAILAND’S NORTHERN REGION Doi Inthanon National Park
Part of the Himalayan mountain range, Doi Inthanon is Thailand’s tallest peak at 2,565 meters above sea level. Doi Inthanon National Park covers an area of 482.4 square kilometers in three districts of Chiang Mai province. Cool climate lovers should visit the park during December to February, which is winter, and you also get a chance to see the blossom of Siamese sakura flowers all over the area.
Sukhothai Historical Park
