INTERIOR DESIGN IS MAGIC. From a young age, I have seen the world through a creative and curious lens. I’d look ahead of me and learned to understand my environment by wondering how it might be painted, what it looks like in section, how two materials come together, and how light and shadow change that view over time. I thought my passions laid in sculpture or studio art, and then I discovered that all of these ways I viewed and experienced the world could be explored and created for others through interior design. Interior design to me is a form of magic. It should curate an experience that resembles this childlike discovery- unconventional, whimsical, and electric. Every human deserves to experience space like a child would, empowering and inspiring them to accomplish even the biggest of dreams. Design should never be a privilege, and should never discriminate based on any form of human difference. We must recognize our differences as humans, while perfectly crafting a holistic experience through design that can unite us. I am grateful for my time at Virginia Tech that has allowed me to receive such a multifaceted education, with the opportunity to understand the principles and elements of design to how we are obligated to design sustainably and universally. Studying design has allowed me to develop a new lens for seeing the world, which is through the eyes of others, recognizing their unique backgrounds, distinct physiology of the brain, and how to create a meaningful experience for everyone. My collegiate and professional organization experiences have given me the confidence to be bold yet design thoughtfully, with a social responsibility to the environment and to those who are underrepresented in our society. I will continue to create to serve and inspire others while advocating for the importance of interior design and how it can change the human experience and the world for the better.

NEXT SATELLITE OFFICE fall 2020 | steelcase competition | 11,500 sf | atlanta, ga NEXT’s Satellite Office is inspired by the Atlanta Beltline, a former rail corridor that forms a 22 mile loop around the entire core of Atlanta, connecting 45 neighborhoods in the city and increasing the city’s park space by 40%. The Beltline celebrates 2 things coming together- the diverse culture of Atlantans and the rich surrounding landscape made up of canopies of trees. Looking at the history and future of the city, the common thread is the human impact on the environment. This office will draw inspiration from the Beltline project by highlighting the moment where what’s manmade and what’s natural comes together, and how that relationship can be symbiotic. In order to fulfill NEXT’s health and wellness mission, this space will celebrate technology and the diverse needs of each employee, uniting occupants together and with their surrounding city through spaces that foster collaboration and rejuventation.

FR I FRINGE RECORDS LUXURY SKYBOX fall 2020 | bienenstock competition | 4,200 sf | new york city, ny CLIENT This luxury skybox is designed to serve Fringe Records, an indie pop music label that supports rising independent artists and bands. This label gives their artists full creative control over their music, allowing artists to form deeper connections with their listeners through realism and authenticity. Their artists embrace being on the fringe of the mainstream music industry, celebrating this resistance and their DIY efforts. These indie pop artists are able to share their poetic monologues and melodic, smooth instrumentals in a more experimental and individualistic way- never tied down to a strict contract that limits their artistic freedom. DESIGN The design will speak to the nature of indie pop music- unrefined and expressive, by contrasting sharp angles with with smooth curves and exposed, raw materials with soft. Having control of their music is also important to the label, so each space will prioritize flexibility and comfort to meet the needs of the musicians. Additionally, just as the artists are to the label and their diy roots, the design will include handcrafted, unique furnishings and a multidimensional use of color.

pho ELEVATE: PUBLIC BRANCH LIBRARY spring 2020 | 13,350 sf | phoenix, az This project was inspired by the Grand Staircase, an National Monument with sedimentary rock layers exposing 275 million years of Earth’s history in its rock formations. Looking at the adjacent diagram, all of these geological ancient events occured in succession, depositing and forming a topographic series of benches and cliffs- a legacy of their presence, written in stone. This branch of the Phoenix Public Library serves the community and represents that concept of layering by providing a progression of multi-functional spaces that elevate the typical library experience by providing opportunities to create, collaborate, socialize and learn. Through these specialized zones, users will come to the realization that their individual strengths can be built upon to create a positive impact in their community, and a legacy that will remain for years to come.
