Gala Dinner themed “Vietnam Night”, an annual opening ceremony for International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City - ITE HCMC was solemnly held in Gem Center, District 1 on the evening of September 6th, 2017.

The theme of that 13th fair in 2017 is “The Gateway to Asian Tourism”.

Since 2005 when the first event was held, International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City 2017 - ITE HCMC has been a big and prestige tourism event of lower Mekong basin nations in general and of Vietnam in particular. This

fair is based on the spirit of cooperation in building and linking five countries in the downstream Mekong region including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. Geographical advantages and

natural, historical and cultural similarities of these nations are the core elements for them to cooperate with each other to develop the potential tourism of this region as well as to capture and approach the new development strategy of this “smoke-free” industry.

tourism forums both in Vietnam and in the region. That contributes to promoting the image of destinations of Vietnam and of ASEAN countries and to improving the cooperation among countries in the region and in the world in developing tourism industry.

There are more than 280 booths from domestic and international travel firms attending this fair. It also attracts more than 250 international buyers, media, travel trade magazines and famous bloggers, especially tourism ambassadors.

Entrusted by their countries, they will participate in many activities within the framework of ITE HCMC 2017.

Gala Dinner was the first in a series of activities and attractive events of ITE HCMC 2017. In the solemn atmosphere of Gala Dinner, the ITE HCMC Organization Committee congratulated the Vietnam Airlines (VNA) on winning the top honours and being certified as a four-star airline at the Skytrax World Airline Awards ceremony at the Farnborough International Air show in England in December, 2016. With this

certificate, VNA has been ranked with the list of other four-star airlines such as Air France (France), Emirates (UAE), Japan Airlines (Japan), Korean Air (Korea), Lufthansa

(Germany). This is a pride of our country in general and of VNA in particular.

Gala Dinner attracted all attendants.

Its well-arranged art performances in

coordination with sound, lighting and modern stage effects in Gala Dinner showed the uniqueness of the wet rice civilization as well as of each ethnic group of five countries including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. This was also the message and goal of ITE HCMC 2017.

There were also performances of traditional music of three regions of Vietnam, such as “chèo”, “quan họ”, Hue royal court music, Southern folk songs; traditional instrumental music per f or ma nc es of Vietnamese ethnic groups and some familiar international songs reflecting the spirit of global integration. The performance of Ao Dai collection of famous designers in Gala Dinner contributed to promoting the beauty of Vietnamese traditional dress to international friends.

ITE HCMC 2017 Sets for Further Tourism Growth as Vietnam’s Key Economic Sector ITE HCMC 2017, themed ‘Your Gateway to Tourism in Asia’, continues to be one of the most important and established international travel events in Vietnam and the region, further promoting Vietnam’s tourism and enhancing the development of the tourism industry regionally and globally.

Endorsed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports & Tourism, Vietnam, and the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, the 13th ITE HCMC will be held from September 7 to 9 at the Saigon Exhibition & Convention Centre (SECC), Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Organised by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT); Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism; Informa Exhibitions Pte Ltd; and the Vietnam Trade Fair & Advertising Joint Stock (VINEXAD), ITE HCMC 2017, themed ‘Your Gateway to Tourism in Asia’, provides a platform for the international and local travel businesses to keep up with the travel trends, get updated on tourism products and services, establish connections with new business partners, further boosting the tourism potential of the country and the ASEAN region.

ITE HCMC this year attracts a number of international tourism enterprises seeking business and cooperation opportunities in the Vietnamese market. KTO offers Vietnamese tourists a chance to discover Korea in new and unique way At ITE this year 2017, Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO) is setting up ‘Imagine your Korea’ booth to introduce a major international multi-sport event, PyeongChang 2018, the Winter Olympics.

This is in collaboration with Busan Tourism Organisation, Jeju Tourism Organisation, Lake Cultural Association, Gyeongnam Development Corporation, Gwangju-si and Jeollanam-do. Customers and business partners can expect access to useful information to develop new travel products or create travel plan exploring Korea in their own styles.

The importance of this booth setup is for people to experience Korean culture’s activities -Skiing through Virtual Reality headset, playing hockey, tasting Korean street foods, watching Jump show and including reasonable prices for T’way Air’s flight tickets. Interesting theme tours

SOM ACMECS MEETING:

CREATING A BUFFER FOR MINISTERIAL MEETING Written by Nam Long

Before the 3rd ACMECS Tourism Ministerial Meeting taken place as a part of the 13 th International Travel Expo in Ho Chi Minh City – ITE HCMC 2017, the Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) was organized by the collaboration between Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, on September 6th 2017, at Rex Hotel.

According to the Meeting, the Group of Five is linked to promote tourism products of the five interregional countries of Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia. During the process of cooperation, there are 3 main issues need to focus.

First of all is the promotion of tourism. Focusing on it to introduce the similarity of the Rice Culture of the five interregional countries. Besides, the border and transportation issues along with the visa issue also need to pay attention to in order that people can easily travel these five countries

from end to end.

Second of all is the process of product creation. Following the trend of world travel, the interregional cooperation is very important.

Therefore, the Group of Five will encourage and facilitate travelers in order that they can easily have interregional tours. For example, the travelers can have a vacation in a beach town of Thailand. Then if they would like to have a mountain climbing trip in Vietnam, the tourism companies can easily offer them the trip with full options.

Finally, the formation of close links is necessary to form the price policies to create interregional competition.

All contents of the SOM ACMECS Meeting will be a preparation for the Ministerial Meeting taking place on September 7th, 2017 at Crystal Palace Hotel.

In the trend of exchange and integration, through the evaluation of many prestigious organizations in the world as well as the growth results of recent years, Vietnam is one of the countries with dynamic economic development and is an attractive destination for international visitors. Ho Chi Minh City is one of the major economic centers in the country, rapidly developing and leading the tourist attraction. Total number of international visitors came to the city in 2016 reached 5.2 million, up 13% compared to 2015. Domestic visitors came to the city reached 21.8 million visitors, increased 12.95%. Total revenue from tourism reached VND 103 trillion, an increase of 9% over 2015. In the first six months of 2017, statistics show that Ho Chi Minh City tourism continues its growth momentum with total tourism receipts of over 53 trillion VND, increased by 12%, welcomed more than 2.7 million international visitors an increase of 14% over the first six months of 2016, contributing significantly to the country’s record-breaking visitor growth; making Vietnam one of the 10 fastest growing tourist destinations in the world in 2017.

Positive growth of the City’s tourism sector has made an important contribution to the convention, exhibition and incentive market, opened opportunities for Ho Chi Minh City’s tourism industry to become a new MICE destination in ASEAN. McKinsey, the world’s

leading consultancy group, reported in 2017 that up to 17% of visitors come to Ho Chi Minh City for work and business purposes; higher than the regional average of 14% -15%. This affirms Ho Chi Minh City has a special attraction to the MICE market and this destination converges full potential as well as factors to develop a comprehensive MICE tourism; contribute to further enhance the economic value of tourism in particular and contribute to the sustainable development of the city in general.

In order to effectively develop tourism with quality as the focus, Ho Chi Minh City has identified MICE tourism as one of the key products to be implemented in the Action Program to implement Resolution 08 of the Politburo on tourism development to become a spearhead economic sector and Directive No. 07 of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee on the task of developing Ho Chi Minh City’s tourism industry to 2020.

From that fact, Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Department and Informa Singapore jointly held a seminar on MICE tourism with the theme “Ho Chi Minh City - A new international MICE hub in ASEAN”. In the framework of the 13th International Tourism Exhibition (ITE HCMC 2017) on September 6th 2017 at 14:00-17:00 at Pollux Hall 1 (3rd floor) - GEM Center - No. 08 Nguyen Binh Khiem street, Da Kao Ward, District 1 with over 300 delegates from the pointed and potential

international markets, domestic tourism enterprises (inbound travel business, 5 star hotels), reputable international and domestic media and international experts and speakers on the MICE tourism market.

The content of the seminar consists of two parts: ● Presentation: + Presentation 1: The value of the MICE conference and exhibition industry for the economy, for society and the environment. + Presentation 2: HCMC’s position for the development of MICE Industry. + Presentation 3: Brand positioning of HCMC as a MICE destination + Presentation 4: Marketing strategy to improve MICE tourism product of Ho Chi Minh city. ● Panel discussion: With the participation of 5 guest delegates (Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the Company organizes conferences and exhibitions, international travel companies - high-class hotels), the exchange revolves around the policies and mechanisms of the State, support MICE tourism development and the strengths, services and facilities available in Ho Chi Minh City as well as trends in meeting the needs of MICE visitors.

Key questions open for discussion: What the State needs to do to attract Foreign business to choose Ho Chi Minh City is a MICE destination? What strengths should Ho Chi Minh City focus on in order to meet the current trend of MICE market? How are the cultural and visual values of Ho Chi Minh City promoted in the MICE tours?

Through this seminar, the Organizing Committee would like to listen to the MICE experienced prestige businesses, experts business’s presentation, contribution and proposals to develop Ho Chi Minh City as an attractive MICE tourism destination leading in the ASEAN region and at the same time to introduce to the international tourism business services and products that Ho Chi Minh City is available to serve MICE tourism, contributing to extend the stay, increase spending of international and domestic tourists when coming to Ho Chi Minh City.
