With the desire to recognise the long term support and active contributions to the International Travel Expo, Ho Chi Minh City (ITE HCMC) from enterprises of travel, hotels, resorts and international airlines, transportation, the ITE HCMC 2017 Organizing Committee has held the ceremony to award the ITE HCMC Travel Award in the morning of September 8th 2017 at Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center - SECC. The first International Travel Expo organized in Ho Chi Minh City in 2005 attracting hundreds of exhibitors, buyers and international media.

Up to now, over 12 times of organizing, ITE HCMC has confirmed its role and position as an important international annual travel expo in the region and is one of the ideal travel trade events for travel enterprises to introduce products and services not only in the Mekong subregion but also to other countries in the world.

ITE HCMC 2017 Awards is one of the new activities within the framework of the 13th International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh 2017 in order to recognise the outstanding exhibiting participants and partners for their exemplary and long term support and contributions to the success of the International Travel Expo in Ho Chi Minh City during the past time.

The award consists of four main categories: ITE Best Booth Design Award, ITE Exhibitor Recognition Award, and ITE Partner Recognition Award and Best low-cost Airline Award. There are 47 awards were given to the units.

SEMINAR ON KEYS TO ATTRACT MALAYSIAN TOURISTS TO HO CHI MINH CITY

Within the framework of ITE HCMC 2017, on September 8th 2017, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism in coordination with Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism held a seminar on Keys to attract Malaysian tourists to Ho Chi Minh City. The seminar aimed to orient and share keys to attract Malayisan tourists to Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City.

The seminar had the presence of more than 120 delegates from representatives of departments and functional units under Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) and Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism (HCMC DOT); Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA), Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association (HTA); Representatives of Vietnam Airlines, airlines operating flights Malaysia - Vietnam; Vietnamese tourism

enterprises and media agencies.

It can be said that the seminar would be a great opportunity for Vietnamese businesses to have a clearly overview about Malaysian outbound travel market to Vietnam.

At the seminar, the presenters shared about how to attract tourists from Malaysia as well as how to keep them coming back to Vietnam.

Besides that, the presentations also mainly focused on giving overview about characteristics of Malaysian tourists, so travel and hospitality businesses in Vietnam can have a better understanding about Malaysian travellers and also can create their own plannings to attract Malaysian tourists to Vietnam. In addition, the seminar also plays a role in contributing to diversify activities within the framework of ITE HCMC 2017.

Seminar of TPO Travel Trade 2017

Within the framework of ITE HCMC 2017, on September 8th 2017, at SECC, the seminar of TPO Travel Trade 2017 is organized, to introduce the products and services of tourism in the cities: Busan, Tongyeong, Andong, Geoje, Gimhae, Jeonju, Goyang, Ulju, Incheon, Jeollabuk-do, Haeundae-gu and Ho Chi Minh City.

“We can say that TPO with its extensive membership network have been doing an excellent job of connecting its member cities with other members, is the center of the exchange of information, dialogue and promote the member cities in the Asia Pacific. And Ho Chi Minh City, we are proud to be one of TPO’s founders, and we have always been actively supporting all activities of TPO as the acting role in Executive Committeefrom 2007 till now. I believe that this year TPO Travel Trade will be a good opportunity for travel agents from TPO and Vietnam to connect and exchange information in order to opening up more future cooperations,” said Mr La Quoc Khanh - Deputy Director of Department of Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City.

Ninh Binh promoting tourism in Ho Chi Minh City: “The charming place” Huu Long

Within the framework of the International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City - ITE HCMC 2017, Ninh Binh Department of Tourism held a seminar in Grand Hotel to promote Ninh Binh tourism on the morning of September 8th 2017. The theme of that seminar is “The charming place”.

There were about 120 representatives from various international and domestic tourism companies attending the seminar.

Mrs. Duong Thi Thanh - Chairwoman of the Ninh Binh Tourism Association, said: “Recently, Ninh Binh has been chosen to travel by a lot of tourists around the world thanks to its advantages of ecotourism, leisure tourism, historical tourism and spiritual tourism.

Especially, after Trang An Landscape Complex was recognized by UNESCO as the World Cultural and Natural Heritage in 2014, the number of tourist travelling Ninh Binh increased twice. In 2016, it reached 6.4 million tourists. On the May 8th 2017, it reached 5.7 million tourists.”

Via the seminar, Mrs. Duong Thi Thanh would like to listen to the thoughts contributed by the tourism companies in Ho Chi Minh City to improve step-by-step the quality of service of Ninh Binh tourism in order to welcome more tourists in the future.

The conference on promoting tourism in Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa - Vietnam in the framework of ITE HCMC 2017 was held by Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa Tourism Association at Grand Hotel Saigon at 18:00 on September 07th, 2017.

The conference was aimed at promoting destinations of Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa and introducing information of local tourism products to Vietnamese and foreigners. Beside that, the event was for tourism firms to exchange, meet, set up relationships and sign cooperation agreements for tourism development as well as to support them to promote local tourism in the province.

The signing ceremony of cooperation agreement between Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa Tourism Association and Jeju Airline, Korean was at the conference. The agreement of direct flights from Cam Ranh to Seoul must have promoted tourism in two regions in the near future.

“Pearl of the Far East� was the name of the old port city of Saigon-Cho Lon, the name of two of the big settlements at the winding Saigon River, which grew together in the course of time to become Ho Chi Minh City in 1976, due to the memory of the Uncle Ho, the former great leader of the Vietnamese people.

Saigon-Cho Lon was an important trade city for Vietnamese. When German explorer Dr. Adolf Bastian arrived there within a boat sailing down the Mekong River from Phnom Penh in early 1864, he mentioned the importance of the rice exportation to India and on to the European markets. Before the French occupied Saigon in 1859, the city had 50,000 inhabitants, much less than the more than 9 millions who are living there now.

When arriving at the busy Tan Son Nhat International Airport some 5 km outside the city, it takes only a short time to reach District 1 - still called Saigon - and located right at a bend of the Saigon River. The vibrant heart of the city with its colonial charm is the place to be. Nearly all the famous luxury hotels are there such as the Rex Hotel, Continental, Park Hyatt, Intercontinental, Sofitel Plaza, Sheraton, Renaissance, Majestic and the Caravelle among other smaller boutique hotels.

The elegant Dong Khoi Street is the center of activities with its myriad of handicraft shops and restaurants. It starts at the river and ends at the red-brick built Notre Dame Cathedral built between 1877 and 1883 right in the middle of the city. Nearby is the impressive Central Post Office built between 1886 and 1891! Another old French-style building is the Opera House at the corner with Le Loi Street. The three-storey building has a seating capacity of 1,800 and offers different programs such as concert, drama

and ballet performances.

If you go along the Nguyen Hue Walking street from the river north, you reach the impressive City Hall - formerly called Hotel de Ville - completed in 1908. There is a standing statue of Ho Chi Minh in front, while the Bitexco Financial Tower with its height of 262 m and 68 floors is a central landmark seen from every corner. The biggest market in the city is called Ben Thanh at the end of Le Loi Street, where you can find a lot of different things such as vegetables, fish,

fruit, cloths, shoes and electronic goods.

Another market is the crowded Binh Tay Market in China Town or Cho Lon. For the culturally-minded visitor, Ho Chi Minh City offers a myriad of pagodas and temples to visit such as the Vinh Nghiem Japanese Pagoda, Xa Loi, Pagoda, Ngoc Hoang Chinese Temple, the oldest Buddhist temple of Giac Lam, and the two Chinese temples of Quan Am and Thien Hau in Cho Lon. There is also the Saigon Central Mosque and the only Hindu temple still in use dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Sri Mariamman.

Galleries and museums abound. Not miss to visit the centrally located Reunification Palace - airy and open with spacious chambers and modern decorations.

Designed for the president of the Republic of Viet Nam until 1975, the modern architecture also features a network of rooms at the basement with a tunnel that stretches all the way to Gia Long Palace, now known as the Revolutionary Museum. Other museums are the War Remnants Museum, Museum of Ho Chi Minh City, Fine Arts Museum, and the memorial Nha Rong Wharf Museum with pictures and objects from Ho Chi Minh, who

left from here to France in June 1911.

In 1929, the classical “Museum of History” was built within the boundaries of the Saigon Zoological and Botanical Garden, just opposite the Hung King Memorial. It shows the long evolution of the Vietnamese people and displays artifacts from the first human vestiges some 300,000 years ago until the establishment of the Vietnamese

Communist Party in 1930. There are also special show rooms of the Oc Eo culture (Funan), Cham art, ethnic groups in Viet Nam, Buddha statues and ancient ceramics.

For visitors with more time for sightseeing, there are tours to book to go from the Saigon River to Vung Tau, or make an excursion to the Can Gio Mangrove Forest, Mekong Delta, or to the interesting Cu Chi Tunnels.
