costruzione della villa risale all’anno 1779 mentre una piccola parte della residenza padronale è di costruzione spagnola. Successivamente gli edifici sono stati oggetto di risanamento e restauro: l’intervento più importante risale alla metà dell’Ottocento, il più recente ai primi del Novecento.

La First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy giunse per la prima volta in Costa d’Amalfi, scegliendo la cittadina di Ravello per trascorrere alcune settimane di vacanza con i figli John John e Caroline. La famiglia soggiornava, col suo seguito, a Palazzo Episcopio, antica dimora nobiliare e prestigiosa residenza di Vittorio Emanuele III. Si recavano al mare a Conca de’ Marini, presso la residenza dei D’Urso, famiglia molto amica dell’avvocato Gianni Agnelli, il quale accompagnò assiduamente la First Lady in esplorazione della Costa e delle sue meraviglie non senza suscitare l’interesse dei numerosi paparazzi al seguito della famiglia, che li immortalarono più volte insieme, bellissimi nel loro impeccabile charme che incarnava appieno l’idillio della Dolce Vita. 1962 was certainly the year when all of the world’s media centered around the Amalfi Coast and on a particular event that caught the press’ curiosity and imagination. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy visited the Amalfi Coast for the first time, choosing the town of Ravello to spend a few weeks of holiday with her children, John John and Caroline. The family and its entourage stayed in Palazzo Episcopio, an old princely home and prestigious estate of Victor Emmanuel III. They went to the seaside at Conca de’ Marini, at the estate of the D’Urso family, who were close friends of lawyer Gianni Agnelli. He regularly accompanied the First Lady on trips to discover the Coast and its wonders. However, he also caught the attention of the several paparazzi following the family, who often captured them together: two beautiful people, their impeccable charm perfectly embodying the dream of the Dolce Vita. The rumours of an alleged love story between the two soon reached the President, who sent an authoritative message: “More Caroline, less Gianni”. He invited his wife to come home, putting an end to that dream holiday on the Coast where the First Lady, who would soon become a widow, never came back. Gianni Agnelli, instead, would regularly spend time, by himself or with his family, in that corner of paradise that he loved so much.

Castiglioncello’s landscapes inspired the Macchiaioli art movement and it is here that, at the end of the 19th century, they founded the “School of Castiglioncello” transforming this town into an interesting artistic circle. The uncontaminated and half-deserted beaches of the time offered perfect sceneries to the Macchiaioli, with their crystal-clear and multi-hued waters and burning sunsets over the sea.

The dynamics control systems combined with the active aerodynamics are also identical. The biggest challenge to face in the LaFerrari Aperta project was making a roadster car that would reach the same performance of the coupĂŠ version without, of course, a roof. The work of the Ferrari Style Centre aimed at maintaining the same looks of LaFerrari as much as possible, also in the open version. The mark that clearly separates the cockpit from the car body has been maintained, intervening on all the elements above the waistrail. This has created a carbon flying bridge set on the main body.

Nel suo incantevole Teatro di Verzura seicentesco, il grande violinista Niccolò Paganini suonava nelle notti d’estate per la principessa Elisa Bonaparte Baciocchi, sorella di Napoleone. Ad acquistarla dagli ultimi proprietari, la nobile famiglia dei conti Pecci Blunt, una coppia residente in Svizzera che, accompagnata e supportata da Lionard, sta portando avanti straordinari lavori di restauro dell’immobile, sotto la tutela della Soprintendenza, al fine di trasformarla in uno dei più prestigiosi hotel extra lusso in Italia. A renderla celebre fu Elisa Bonaparte Baciocchi, incoronata dal fratello Napoleone principessa di Lucca e Piombino e Granduchessa di Toscana, che nel 1806 acquistò la Villa di Marlia e quella adiacente del Vescovo facendone un’unica proprietà. La villa ha un parco di 19 ettari in stile inglese con parti originali seicentesche, tra cui il magnifico Teatro di Verzura realizzato nel 1652: un vero e proprio teatro all’aperto, con pareti di siepi di tasso e statue ornamentali in terracotta raffiguranti i personaggi della Commedia dell’Arte. illa Reale di Marlia, sold by Lionard in 2015, is certainly the most famous historic villa in the territory of Lucca. In its charming 17th century Green Theatre, during summer nights, the great violinist Niccolò Paganini would play for Princess Elisa Bonaparte Baciocchi, a sister of Napoleon. It has been bought from its last owners, the noble Pecci-Blunt family by a couple living in Switzerland who, helped by Lionard in the after-sale, is carrying out some extraordinary renovation works under the supervision of the Superintendence, with the aim of converting it into one of the most prestigious ultra-luxury hotels in Italy. Elisa Bonaparte Baciocchi was the one who made it famous; she was crowned Princess of Lucca and Piombino and Grand Duchess of Tuscany by her brother and, in 1806, purchased Villa di Marlia and the adjacent “del Vescovo” one, combining them into one property. The villa has a 19 hectares English style park with original 17th century parts, including the magnificent Green Theatre made in 1652: an actual open-air theatre with walls made of yew hedges and terracotta ornamental statues depicting characters from the “Commedia dell’arte”. Le parti del parco che risalgono al periodo secentesco sono ben riconoscibili grazie alla presenza di piante sempreverdi. Tra queste ci sono l’incantevole Teatro di Verzura, il giardino dei limoni e uno scenografico teatro d’acqua che si sviluppa attorno ad una grande vasca in roccia con giochi d’acqua, cascate, statue che rappresentano divinità e vasi ornamentali, incorniciata da un’alta siepe in leccio e alloro. The parts of the park dating back to the 17th century are well recognizable thanks to the presence of evergreen plants. Among these there are the lovely Green Theatre, the Lemon Garden and a spectacular Water Theatre which is composed of a big stone pool with waterworks, falls, statues depicting gods and ornamental vases, and framed by a high hedge made of holm oak and laurel.

Tra le numerose stanze della villa, la grande sala da ballo dove la principessa Elisa teneva memorabili feste, a cui partecipava anche il grande violinista Niccolò Paganini come “direttore di orchestra”. Voci di palazzo sussurravano di una relazione amorosa tra i due. Elisa, oltre a conferire alla sua dimora uno stile neoclassico, intervenne sul giardino adattandone l’estetica al gusto del tempo, tanto che il principe di Metternich ne scriverà entusiasta dichiarando di non aver mai visto in Italia un parco all’inglese come quello, con una tale varietà di piante. Fortunatamente la principessa lasciò intatte alcune parti seicentesche del giardino che sono state conservate fino ad oggi: il Teatro dell’acqua, il Giardino dei limoni, la Peschiera, la Grotta di Pan e il Teatro di Verzura. A seguito della caduta di Napoleone, Elisa abbandonò la villa di Marlia che divenne proprietà dei duchi di Parma e poi degli Asburgo Lorena. Con l’Unità d’Italia passò a Vittorio Emanuele II di Savoia, primo re d’Italia, che la cedette al principe Carlo di Borbone, diseredato per aver sposato una donna di sangue non reale. Alla loro morte la villa passò al figlio, conosciuto come il “Principe Matto” per l’ossessione religiosa e il comportamento eccentrico, che morì nel 1918. Per pagare i debiti, la Villa fu messa in vendita: i beni mobili andarono all’asta e molti alberi del parco furono abbattuti per farne legname.

Among this villa’s numerous rooms, there is also the big ballroom where Princess Elisa held memorable parties and where the great violinist Niccolò Paganini was often a conductor. Palace rumours spoke of a love affair between the two. Elisa not only gave a Neoclassical style to the estate, she also modified the garden and adapted it to that period’s aesthetics in such a way that the Prince von Metternich would write enthusiastically about it, claiming he had never seen such an English-style garden in Italy, with such a variety of plants. Luckily, the princess maintained some 17th century parts of the garden that have survived until today: theWater Theatre, the Lemon Garden, the Peschiera, the Grotto of Pan and the Green Theatre. After Napoleon’s fall, Elisa abandoned the villa, which became property of the Dukes of Parma and then of the Habsburg-Lorraines. After the unification of Italy, it passed into the hands ofVictor Emmanuel II of Savoy, first King of Italy; he ceded it to Prince Carlo of Bourbon who had lost his rights after marrying a woman who was not of royal blood. After their death the villa was inherited by their son, known as “ The Mad Prince” for its religious obsession and eccentric character; he died in 1918. TheVilla was put up for sale to pay debts: many items of furniture were auctioned, and many of the park’s trees were cut down for timber.

L’ultimo passaggio di proprietà segna l’inizio di importanti e articolati lavori di restauro e valorizzazione dell’intero complesso, affidati a maestranze italiane e locali, sotto l’alta sorveglianza della Soprintendenza ai Beni Architettonici e Paesaggistici di Lucca e Massa Carrara. L’operazione coinvolge progressivamente ogni parte della proprietà, dalla Villa Reale alla Palazzina dell’Orologio, sia nel ripristino degli esterni che nella riqualificazione delle decorazioni interne originarie, con l’obiettivo di restituire l’antico splendore agli edifici.

The by then neglected villa was bought by the Count and Countess Pecci-Blunt in 1924, who managed to save it from destruction just in time.The last change of ownership marks the start of some important and well-structured restoration and enhancement works on the entire complex; these were entrusted to Italian and local workers under the high supervision of the Superintendence for Architectural Heritage and Landscape of the provinces of Lucca and Massa Carrara. The operation has progressively involved every part of the property, from Villa Reale to the Clock House, both regarding the restoration of the outdoors and the renovation of the original interior decorations, with the aim of bringing the buildings back to their former glory.

iamo nel cuore del Piemonte, nelle vicinanze di Tortona in provincia di Alessandria. Un maniero dal fascino senza tempo e dall’aspetto fiabesco sorge sulla sommità di un piccolo promontorio incastonato nel cuore di una vallata, circondato da folti boschi di conifere. Il castello fu costruito nel XIV secolo sulle rovine di un antico edificio preesistente, del quale verrà conservata ed annessa la torre ancora oggi esistente, utilizzando i materiali che questo territorio offriva, principalmente pietra locale, carbonati e arenaria. Aveva l’aspetto di un massiccio fortilizio a pianta quadrata, sormontato da una torre merlata, con due avancorpi a scopo difensivo uniti al corpo centrale tramite il ponte levatoio. La torre ha origini antiche, precendenti a quelle del castello. Nel corso dei secoli si sono susseguiti non solo numerosi passaggi di proprietà, ma anche modifiche strutturali ed estetiche che hanno adattato progressivamente l’aspetto del castello ai gusti dell’epoca. L’attuale biblioteca ha origini seicentesche, mentre risale al Settecento il campanile, allora utilizzato per chiamare a raccolta i dipendenti. Nell’Ottocento il cortile interno fu trasformato in un locale coperto.

The magnificent park adjacent to the villa is now considered one of the most important acclimation gardens in Italy, and was allegedly designed by Marquis Cosimo Ridolfi (1794-1865), a great connoisseur of botany and agriculture. The marquis was particularly proud of its collection of wonderful camellias which had 195 species and varieties.

This timeless and fairy-tale castle stands at the top of a small promontory set in the heart of a valley, surrounded by bushy coniferous forests. This castle was built in the 14th century on the ruins of a preexisting building, preserving and annexing the latter’s old tower, which still stands today, and using the materials offered by this area, mainly local stones, carbonates and sandstone. It was a square-shaped fortress with a crenellated tower and two defensive avant-corps connected to the main body by a drawbridge. The tower’s ancient origins precede the castle’s. During the centuries, there were not only several changes of ownership but also many structural and aesthetical modifications that adapted the castle to what was in fashion in each time. The current library dates back to the 17th century, while the bell tower used to gather workers has 18th century origins. In the 19th century the internal courtyard was converted into a covered space.

Gli interventi più significativi tuttavia risalgono al Novecento: gli interni vengono arricchiti, le strutture restaurate, i volumi ampliati. Il castello si adatta alla modernità, preservando però gli elementi storici che lo contraddistinguono e ne accrescono il valore. Gli accessi al castello sono tre, uno più suggestivo dell’altro: una via è fiancheggiata da antichi cipressi, una strada secondaria si collega direttamente alla strada principale e una terza via si inerpica tra le case del paese raggiungendo l’antica porta di accesso alla rocca, protetta da spesse mura perimetrali in pietra arenaria con merlatura in cotto. L’intera proprietà si compone di tre corpi distinti, il cui corpo centrale è costituito dal castello vero e proprio. Troviamo poi un avancorpo, con l’antico fossato e il portone d’accesso, e l’ala laterale aggiunta successivamente e comunicante col castello attraverso un’ampia camera.

However, the most significant works date back to the 20th century: the rooms were enriched, the structures restored, the volumes expanded. The castle adapted to modern times, but maintained the historical elements that characterize it and add to its value.There are three accesses to the castle, one more stunning than the other: one is sided by old cypresses, a secondary road directly connects to the main road, and the third one climbs along the town’s houses, reaching the old access to the stronghold, protected by thick sandstone perimeter walls with cotto battlements. This property is composed of three separate parts, the main body being the actual castle. There is then an avant-corps with the old moat and the main door, and the side wing that was built in a second time and is connected to the castle through a wide room.

The castle measures 3,500 sqm overall and features a lower ground floor with cellars, a mezzanine floor, a first floor, a second floor with a sleeping area, an attic floor fit for residential use and a garret floor. The first floor is home to the most spectacular rooms and to a doubleheight closed courtyard with frescoes, among which there is the likeness of one of this castle’s noble owners. A spacious hall features a big fireplace decorated with old marble bas-reliefs, frescoed walls with floral motifs, and a coffered ceiling with multi-coloured decorations.

mmersa nello straordinario scenario delle colline alle porte di Firenze, nella zona di Capraia, si trova questa splendida tenuta composta da una scenografica villa padronale e dalla sua fattoria, con storiche cantine attrezzate per la produzione di vino e olio di alta qualità. La villa è posta su un’altura dalla quale si domina sulla campagna circostante, in un contesto paesaggistico che è rimasto pressochè immutato rispetto ai secoli passati. Una delle prime documentazioni relative alla dimora risale al 1443, quando l’antico castrum di proprietà del monastero benedettino pistoiese fu trasferito da papa Eugenio IV ai Canonici Lateranensi. La proprietà fu poi trasformata in villa patrizia dai Marchesi Frescobaldi nel XVIII secolo, epoca alla quale risalgono il grazioso teatrino e la cappella privata. L’impianto centrale settecentesco della villa è rimasto sostanzialmente immutato, salvo alcune modifiche ed aggiunte interne al corpo principale che tuttavia non né hanno stravolto la volumetria, né la composizione. La villa ha conservato tutto il suo splendore, rinnovandosi e adattandosi attraverso le epoche e si presenta oggi maestosa, coi due caratteristici torrioni laterali tipici del Rinascimento toscano. Le aperture sulla facciata seguono una composizione geometrica regolare, simmetrica rispetto al portale d’ingresso ed eleganti cornici in pietra serena contornano le finestre, di cui quella centrale si apre su di un elegante balcone.

n the Capraia area Surrounded by the extraordinary setting offered by the hills at the outskirts of Florence, there is this stunning estate composed of a spectacular master villa and its farm, with historical cellars equipped with machinery for the production of high-quality wine and olive oil.The villa is on high grounds and overlooks the surrounding countryside, a landscape that has remained quite unchanged over the centuries. One of the first documents relating to this property dates back to 1443 when the old “castrum” owned by Pistoia’s Benedictine monastery was given to the Canons of the Lateran by Pope Eugene IV. This property was then converted into a noble villa by the Frescobaldi Marquis family in the 18th century; the charming theatre and private chapel of this estate also date back to that period. The 18th century central structure of this stunning historical estate has remained essentially unchanged, except for some internal changes and extensions to the main body that, however, have not distorted neither its total volume nor its disposition. The villa has preserved all its splendour by being renovated and adapted during the years and now stands majestically, with two side towers that are typical of the Tuscan Renaissance. The openings on the façade follow a regular geometrical order, balanced with the entrance door, while on the windows there are some grey-sandstone frames and the central one opens on an elegant balcony.

The magnificent park adjacent to the villa is now considered one of the most important acclimation gardens in Italy, and was allegedly designed by Marquis Cosimo Ridolfi (1794-1865), a great connoisseur of botany and agriculture. The marquis was particularly proud of its collection of wonderful camellias which had 195 species and varieties.

iunti a Firenze verso il XIII secolo, i Frescobaldi furono famosi mercanti e ottennero in città cariche politiche prestigiose. Rivestirono un ruolo di rilievo non solo nella storia fiorentina e italiana ma anche in quella europea, prestando ingenti somme di denaro ai sovrani inglesi, da Edoardo I a Enrico VIII, in cambio posizioni di potere e di prestigio nel regno. Illustri letterati, abili viaggiatori e generosi mecenati, i Frescobaldi ospitarono spesso presso la tenuta i granduchi d’Asburgo Lorena, dinastia regnante subentrata a Firenze alla morte dell’ultimo dei Medici nel 1737, da loro sostenuti ed incoraggiati politicamente.

Il torrione di destra presenta una grande apertura ad arco che dà l’accesso alla fattoria e alla cappella, ampliata e ornata per volere del marchese Francesco Giuseppe Frescobaldi nel 1741. Nel corso del Novecento, con un cambio di proprietà che vede come protagonista una famiglia di origini veneziane, la villa subì moltissime trasformazioni in linea col dominante stile neogotico. La proprietà, adornata di merli, assunse l’aspetto di un castelletto, per poi essere riportata all’aspetto originario intorno agli anni Trenta. A questo periodo risale altresì la realizzazione delle scuderie e del giardino all’italiana, con arredi in pietra, statue, giochi d’acqua, grandi aiuole di bosso e palme esotiche, un teatro di verzura e una fontana tutt’oggi esistenti.

The Frescobaldi marquis family

rriving in Florence around the 13th century, the Frescobaldi family became famous merchants and obtained prestigious political posts in the city. They not only had an important role in Florentine and Italian history but also in Europeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s by loaning huge amounts of money to English monarchs, from Edward I to Henry VIII; in return they asked to have powerful and prestigious positions in their kingdom. As illustrious people of letters, wise travellers, and generous patrons, the Frescobaldi often hosted the Hapsburg-Lorraine Grand Dukes in their estate. They were the reigning family that followed the Medici after the death of the last descendant in 1737, and were supported and politically encouraged by the Marquises.

The right tower features a big arch opening which leads to the farm and to the chapel, extended and adorned at the request of Marquis Giuseppe Frescobaldi in 1741. During the 20th centry, after a change of property that saw an originally-Venetian family take central role, the villa underwent several changes, following the Neo-Gothic style that was in fashion at that time.The property was adorned with embattlements and looked like a small castle, but was then restored to its original appearance during the 1930s. That period also saw the building of the stables and of an Italian-style garden with stone elements, statues, waterworks, big flowerbeds with boxwood bushes and exotic palms, a green theatre and a fountain, all still existing today.

The extant of grounds surrounding this property includes approximately 380 hectares of olive groves, vineyards, sown fields and grazing land, besides an important variety of woods which Marquis Cosimo Ridolfi took care of in the 19th century, as an enlightened botany enthusiast. He also created a romantic park, a truly experimental acclimation garden for exotic species. By walking along some lovely natural paths you may admire some rare examples of trees alternating with fake ruins, the stables, the old furnace, the Medieval ice-house. In this deeply-charming setting, past and present blend together and every detail is a witness of Florence’s tradition and the glorious past of the noble family that marked its history.

La Galleria Frilli fu fondata nel 1860 dallo scultore ed accademico fiorentino Antonio Frilli. Essa nacque come laboratorio artigiano di marmi ed alabastri, ed ebbe subito grande fortuna in concomitanza con l’epoca del Grand Tour, quando la clientela internazionale, che risiedeva a Firenze, altamente aristocratica e facoltosa, commissionava a Frilli repliche di sculture classiche che poi finivano in ogni dove, a giro per il mondo. La Galleria Frilli e la manifattura Frilli divennero presto il punto di riferimento nel settore delle sculture in marmo.Antonio Frilli nel corso della sua professione fu insignito del titolo di fornitore ufficiale di molte casate reali ed imperiali ( dalla Imperatrice del Brasile, la casa regnante di Grecia, la casa reale del Belgio e delle Fiandre, per menzionarne alcune) ed partecipò a molte Esposizioni Universali in circa 50 paesi diversi, contribuendo allo svilippo dei Padiglioni Italia e vincendo oltre 20 medaglie. Nell’anno 1925 la Galleria Frilli fu rilevata dalla Famiglia Marinelli, proveniente dal mondo delle Fonderie Artistiche e della produzione del bronzo. Oggi la Galleria Frilli è un maestoso spazio di 500 MQ , con sculture in marmo e bronzo, espressione dell’arte classica ma anche di quella contemporanea, in un unico posto! In anni più recenti, la Galleria Frilli ha ricevuto la importante commissione da parte dell’Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore, per il rifacimento delle tre porte bronzee dorate del Battistero di San Giovanni in Firenze, a sostituzione degli originali conservati nel museo. Queste gigantesche porte, tra cui la più nota Porta del Paradiso, sono una pietra miliare nella storia dell’arte e dell’umanità.

Frilli Gallery was established in 1860 by Florentine sculptor Antonio Frilli primarily as a marble and alabaster studio. During the Grand Tour period, the fame of the studio spread very fast all over the world, and the aristocratic international clientele traveling to Florence, soon became the greatest exporter and publicity of many Frilli replicas all over the world. The Frilli Gallery’s sculptures became the point of reference in the sector. Antonio Frilli was honored by becoming supplier of important Royal and Imperial Families (the Empress of Brazil, the Royal House of Greece, the Royal House of Belgium and the Flanders, are a few we can mention) and was participating globally in more than 50 different Universal Expositions of Arts, contributing to the creations of the Italian Pavilions, and winning over 20 gold medals. In the year 1925 the Gallery was acquired by the Marinelli Family, the Frilli being extinguished, coming from a long tradition in the bronze casting. This is how the marble and bronze sculptures come to live together, and this is also how the contemporary art expressions started to appear. In recent years the Frilli Gallery was entrusted by the City of Florence the bronze casting of the replicas of the gilded bronze doors of the Baptistery, replacing the original doors now preserved inside the Museum of the Opera del Duomo.

TECHNIQUES The methods used for casting our bronzes or carving our marbles are exactly those used in the Renaissance or in the ancient Greek times. The bronzes are cast with the lost wax method, the most accurate and traditional for casting. The marbles, are entirely carved by hand. This happens all thanks to the capability and expertise of our artisans, whose skills are jealously and secretly passed onto from generation to generation.“Sculpture is our passion” is the motto of the Frilli Gallery. This ancient castle was built in the 10th century and majestically stands on a hill in the chianti area; some of the most famous Florentine noble families lived behind its walls: the Gianfigliazzi, the Acciaiuoli, the Borromeo and the Malatesta. It has come to these days thanks to the several works it has undergone during the ages and it is a priceless witness of these lands’ history, besides having an exceptional historical and architectural heritage.

e fondamenta di questo affascinante castello nel Chianti, in provincia di Firenze, risalgono al Decimo secolo. Si trattava di una possente fortezza eretta a scopi difensivi, posta sulla sommità di una collina a circa 400 metri sul livello del mare, immersa tra i boschi di querce secolari e i vigneti tipici di queste zone. La posizione dominante e strategica, in passato utile per il controllo del territorio, offre una suggestiva vista panoramica a 360 gradi sulla campagna toscana, oggi uno dei fiori all’occhiello della struttura nonché caratteristica unica e di grande esclusività. La proprietà ebbe un ruolo centrale, nel corso del 1200, nelle storiche battaglie tra Firenze e Siena che si susseguirono per decenni. Distrutto per ben due volte e successivamente abbandonato per più di un secolo, il castello fu riedificato ad opera della famiglia dei Samminiatesi nel XV secolo e fu trasformato in una magnifica dimora signorile nella quale vissero importanti famiglie fiorentine quali i Gianfigliazzi, gli Acciaiuoli, i Borromeo e i Malatesta. A distanza di oltre mille anni, il castello è stato accuratamente ristrutturato ed è oggi un’accogliente struttura ricettiva. L’attività di azienda agricola è stata ripristinata e nella tenuta, della superficie di circa 100 ettari, vengono prodotti ottimo vino Chianti, olio d’oliva di eccellente qualità, Vin Santo e miele.

he foundations of this charming castle in the Chianti area, in the province of Florence, date back to the 10th century. It was a mighty fortress built for defensive purposes on the top of a hill at 400m above sea level, surrounded by woods of centuries-old oaks and the vineyards that are typical of these areas. Its high and strategic position was once useful for controlling the territory and now offers a round panoramic view over the Tuscan countryside; its position is one of the strengths of this building and also a unique feature that means great exclusivity. In the 13th century this property played a central role in the historic battles between Florence and Siena that went on for decades. It was destroyed twice and then abandoned for more than a century, until it was rebuilt by the Samminiatesi family in the 15th century and converted into a magnificent princely home where important families such as the Gianfigliazzi, the Acciaiuoli, the Borromeo and the Malatesta lived. After more than a thousand years the castle was carefully renovated and it is now a welcoming accommodation facility. Farming activities have also been resumed and its 100 hectares of grounds produce some great Chianti wine, excellent-quality olive oil,Vin Santo, and honey.

Lo straordinario immobile che possiamo apprezzare oggi è il risultato di anni di accurati interventi che, nel pieno rispetto della storia centenaria di questa dimora, hanno apportato miglioramenti strutturali e introdotto i comfort della modernità, coordinando il sapiente lavoro di architetti, costruttori e artigiani locali. Il maniero si presenta come un’imponente costruzione in tufo di circa 5.000 mq a pianta quadrata, con le tipiche torri angolari, le mura merlate e il fronte di carattere gotico-senese risalente al XV secolo.

The extraordinary estate that we can appreciate today is the result of years of careful works that, while fully respecting the centuries-old history of this building, have brought structural improvements and have introduced modern comforts by wisely coordinating architects, builders and local artisans. The castle is an imposing square-plan tuff building, measuring approximately 5,000 sqm, with typical corner towers, crenellated walls, and a Sienese Gothic façade dating back to the 15th century.

Oggi il “nettare degli dei” è riconosciuto da tutti come un investimento profittevole nel lungo periodo. Anzi. I numeri confermano che quando si cerca un investimento alternativo per i portafogli più prestigiosi la prima strada da perseguire è quella del vino. Uno degli indici più seguiti e più ampi del settore, il Liv-ex 1000 Index, ha terminato febbraio 2017 su un nuovo massimo storico a 303,15 punti, con un incremento mensile dello 0,6 per cento. Si è trattato del settimo mese consecutivo con chiusura su nuove vette assolute. Quanto alte? Su un orizzonte annuale il guadagno dell’indice è arrivato a più 21,6 per cento. Non solo. Actually, the numbers confirm that, when looking for an alternative investment for the most prestigious portfolios, the first road to follow is that of the wine. One of the widest and most followed indexes in the sector, the Liv-ex 1000 Index, closed February 2017 with a record 303.15 points and a monthly increase of 0.6 per cent. E, sicuramente, il grande affare del 2016 è stata la vendita del Patek Philippe 1518 che ha raggiunto l’anno scorso la cifra record di 11 milioni di franchi svizzeri. E l’arte? Rientra ancora nella lista dei beni di lusso ad alto rendimento? Come sempre la risposta, quando si parla di arte, è “dipende”. Dietro alla parola arte si racchiudono tante tipologie di investimenti e tante correnti differenti, che offrono performance differenti. I numeri mostrano un mercato che mediamente ha reso negli ultimi 10 anni circa il 150%, ma si passa dai grandi record dell’arte contemporanea agli alti e bassi degli impressionisti che, nel 2016, hanno deluso le aspettative degli investitori con un rendimento mediamente negativo. E sicuramente il 2016 non entrerà nella lista dei migliori anni del mondo dell’arte, ma siamo comunque di fronte a numeri che

Is it still in the list of highly-profitable luxury goods? As usual the answer, when speaking about art, is “it depends”. Behind the word art there are various kinds of investment and many different movements, which offer different performances. The statistics show a market that has, on average, yielded approximately 150% in 10 years, but this ranges from the big successes of contemporary art to the ups and downs of the Impressionists which, in 2016, did not meet the investors’ expectations and performed poorly on average. It is certain that 2016 will not make the list of the art-world’s most successful years but we are looking at numbers that impress if we compare them, for example, with the Italian stock market’s main index, the Ftse MIB, which decreased by 10% last year and has had to deal with an almost 50% fall in 10 years.

Quando si investe in strumenti finanziari si è mossi dall’obiettivo di impiegare le proprie risorse economiche per produrre capitale. Ma quando si guarda ai beni di lusso si è mossi dal significato più profondo del concetto di risparmio: compro per avere, compro per trasformare il denaro in un asset. Anzi in un pleasure asset.
