un amore che dura da decenni quello tra l’incantevole località di Castiglioncello, sul mare della Toscana, e il mondo del cinema italiano. Sarà che in questi territori incontaminati e lontani dalle trafficate vie di comunicazione, si scopre una dimensione paradisiaca che non può che far innamorare a prima vista. Tra le folte pinete e le scogliere bianche, dagli anni Sessanta i protagonisti della Dolce Vita trovano qui la location ideale per le loro vacanze estive: Marcello Mastroianni, Vittorio Gassman e Alberto Sordi sono solo alcuni dei volti celebri che hanno scelto di trascorrere le loro estati a Castiglioncello. Da quando il regista Dino Risi scelse questi luoghi come set per le riprese del suo film manifesto ‘’Il Sorpasso’’ (1962), Castiglioncello viene consacrata a paradiso dei vip e la sua fama è rimasta intatta fino ad oggi, così come possiamo ancora ammirare le residenze dei grandi del cinema, spettacolari ville affacciate sul mare nelle quali rivive l’atmosfera leggendaria della Dolce Vita.

he love story between the charming town of Castiglioncello, by the Tuscan sea, and Italian cinema has been going on for decades. It’s probably because these untouched areas, far from the congested main roads, are home to a heaven-like dimension that makes everybody fall in love with it at first sight. Since the 1960s, among thick pine forests and white cliffs, the protagonists of the Dolce Vita have found the ideal setting for their summer holidays here: Marcello Mastroianni, Vittorio Gassman and Alberto Sordi are just a few of the famous names who have chosen to spend their summertime in Castiglioncello. Ever since director Dino Risi chose these places as a set for its landmark movie “The Easy Life” (1962), Castiglioncello has been known as a VIP paradise and its fame is still the same today, especially because we can now enjoy the sight of the wonderful estates owned by great movie stars: spectacular villas overlooking the sea, places where we can relive the legendary atmosphere of the Dolce Vita.

“Marcello used to say that Castiglioncello was a true Eden for him. At the height of his career, he decided to get his own house in Castiglioncello. He bought “La Prora”, which stands on the Northernmost tip of Quercetano Bay. As a building expert as it was, he renovated and furnished it in a stunning way. The “Prora” - the Italian word for a boat’s prow – is a wonderful villa overlooking Buca dei Corvi, built in the early 1920s in a typical Art-Nouveau style. It is in a privileged position, on the Northern tip of Quercetano Bay, dominating the whole surroundings with a breathtaking view: the main hall, in fact, gives the impression of being on the prow of a ship. Luchino Visconti once lived here, but it was also frequented by Alain Delon, Franco Zeffirelli, the Kessler twins, Giorgio Albertazzi. Today, it is known as Marcello Mastroianni’s villa.

One of these it the “Prora”, Marcello Mastroianni’s summer home, a charming Art-Nouveau estate featuring a turret that embraces breathtaking views. High-end tourism is still charmed by timeless Castiglioncello, an exclusive, niche location that was discovered by the Macchiaioli art movement in the late 1800s, when their patron, Diego Martelli, fell madly in love with it.

Mastroianni arrivò a Castiglioncello negli anni Sessanta grazie ad amici che lo introdussero a questa fiabesca località di mare. Innamoratosi della villa, la acquistò nel 1964 e la fece completamente restaurare e ridipingere di bianco. La sua residenza, immersa nella totale privacy, in uno dei punti più scenografici della baia, si erge come una torretta a guardia del mare. Tre piani, oltre mille metri quadri, un trionfo di luce, rigogliosa vegetazione e cura del dettaglio. Uno spettacolare giardino terrazzato discende dolcemente verso il mare, creando uno scorcio perfetto per la splendida piscina panoramica a sfioro con acqua salata. Scendendo una scalinata in pietra si giunge alla banchina privata, luogo privilegiato per rilassarsi a stretto contatto con la natura.

Nella Castiglioncello dell’epoca della Dolce Vita convivevano, a poche centinaia di metri di distanza, i più grandi nomi del cinema di quel periodo, che a loro volte erano soliti ospitare amici e conoscenti per trascorrere in compagnia i periodi estivi. During the Dolce Vita period, great names of the Italian cinema used to live within a few hundred meatres from each other, here in Castiglioncello; and they also had a number of friends and acquaintances stay with them during the summer.
Mastroianni first came to Castiglioncello in the 1960s, thanks to some friends who introduced him to this fairy-tale sea town. He fell in love with this villa and bought it in 1964, then he had it completely restored and painted in white. His estate, surrounded by utmost privacy, stands in one of the bay’s most spectacular points, like a turret guarding the sea. Three floors, over 1,000 square metres, a triumph of light, luxuriant nature and great attention to detail. A spectacular terraced garden gradually descends towards the sea, creating the perfect setting for a wonderful panoramic infinity view with salted water. A flight of steps made of stone leads to a private quay, a sheltered place to relax in close contact with nature. BE · LIONARD 19

La storia di questa meravigliosa villa, che si erge maestosa sulla collina di Cimena, in provincia di Torino, ha inizio nel 1663. Nata come residenza di campagna, vive il suo periodo di massimo splendore nell’Ottocento, quando la nobile famiglia di Conti Thaon di Revel da il via a ingenti lavori di ristrutturazione per trasformare l’immobile in un’imponente dimora in stile neoclassico, affidandone il progetto all’architetto regio Carlo Sada. Il conte Ottavio Thaon di Revel, che nel 1848 era Ministro delle Finanze del Regno di Sardegna, venne nominato Senatore del Regno d’Italia nel 1861 e fu proprio lui, ereditata la residenza, a deciderne la completa e radicale ricostruzione. Dalla collina di Cimena, la nuova architettura palladiana della villa, apparve, dopo la trasformazione, a dominare la piana del Po, con la scenografica facciata in stile neoclassico, il doppio ordine di colonne ioniche e corinzie e l’alto frontone ornato di statue, richiamo all’architettura palladiana, che domina la piana del Po ed è visibile anche da grande distanza. Quando nel 1969 la Villa fu venduta, ebbe inizio un lungo lavoro di recupero e restauro e mentre la dimora tornava agli originari splendori, il nuovo proprietario, grande collezionista d’arte arricchendola con importanti opere d’arte: la villa è indubbiamente unica in tutta la regione per la sua ricchezza e splendore, paragonabile a uno scrigno che custodisce capolavori di eccezionale bellezza di autori quali Beaumont, Cignaroli e Bonzanigo.

The history of this wonderful villa majestically standing on the hill of Cimena, in the province of Turin, starts in 1663. Born as a country home, it has its peak in the 19th century, when the noble Thaon di Revel family starts massive restoration works to convert this building into a majestic Neoclassical estate, entrusting the design to Royal Architect Carlo Sada. Count Ottavio Thaon di Revel was a Minister of Finance of the Kingdom of Sardinia in 1848 and nominated Senator of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861; he was the one who, once he inherited the estate, decided for this radical refurbishment. From the hill of Cimena and after the transformation, the new Palladian architecture of the villa appeared to dominate the Po plain, with the spectacular neoclassical façade, the double order of Ionic and Corinthian columns and the high pediment decorated with statues, an echo to Palladian architecture, that dominates the Po Valley and is visible from big distances. When the villa was sold in 1969, it underwent more recovery and restoration works and while it became even more beautiful with each passing day, the new owner, an important art collector, filled it with precious works of art: this villa is undoubtedly a unique gem in the whole region, thanks to its richness and splendour which may be compared to a treasure chest full of masterpieces of great beauty by authors the likes of Beaumont, Cignaroli, and Bonzanigo.
Incorniciata da un grande parco lussureggiante e dal bosco, la villa comprende una tenuta di circa ottanta ettari. Il grande giardino che la circonda è stato realizzato in pochi anni a partire dal 1847 ed è opera di Marcellino Roda, noto giardiniere e paesaggista dell’epoca. Eclettico e variegato, conta una grande varietà di specie botaniche come querce, aceri, azalee, ciliegi e rododendri, che si alternano a statue, vialetti e scale e presenta al suo interno anche un lago artificiale. Dal prato si ammira un panorama magnifico sulla Pianura Padana, sulle Alpi Occidentali e sulla città di Torino.
Framed by a luxuriant park and by a forest, this villa includes approximately eighty hectares of grounds. The big garden surrounding it was realized in just a few years, starting in 1847, and was created by Marcellino Roda, a famous gardener and landscape artist of that period. This eclectic and varied garden features a big variety of plants such as oaks, maples, azaleas, cherry trees, and rhododendrons together with statues, paths, steps and an artificial lake. The lawn offers a wonderful view of the Po Valley, the Western Alps and the city of Turin.

I saloni della villa, che hanno l’aspetto di vere e proprie sale di rappresentanza dedicate all’accoglienza dei propri ospiti e a raffinati ricevimenti, prendono i nomi di colori: troveremo quindi la Sala Verde, caratterizzata da autentici arredi veneziani del ‘700, la Sala Gialla ovvero il salone centrale, la Sala Rossa, uno studio con arredi in stile neoclassico. Seguono poi la Sala Biliardo, la Biblioteca, la Galleria con particolari sedili a gondola, la Cappella, lo Scalone finemente decorato da dipinti di Beaumont, la Camera Avorio, la Camera dei Putti e la Camera dei Cigni. Gli interni sono rifiniti nei minimi dettagli e ci raccontano dei grandi artefici che hanno sapientemente combinato i pavimenti alla veneziana, i preziosi palchetti con intarsi di essenze preziose, gli alti soffitti affrescati e l’importante collezione artistica.
The villa’s halls look like true ceremonial rooms dedicated to entertaining guests with refined receptions; these are named after colours, so we will find the Green Room, featuring authentic 18th-century Venetian furniture, the Yellow Room, which is the central hall, and the Red Room, which is a study with Neoclassical furnishings. There are then the Billiard Room, the Library, the Gallery with spectacular gondola chairs, the Chapel, the Grand Staircase, which is finely decorated with Beaumont paintings, the Ivory Room, the Putti Room, and the Swan Room. The interiors are completed in finite detail and tell us about the great architects who skillfully incorporated the Venetian floors and precious shelves with inlays of precious essences with high frescoed ceilings and an important art collection.

oprannominata “sfacciata’’ per la sua posizione maestosa dalla quale domina la città di Firenze, questa scenografica villa in vendita vanta una storia secolare. Primi cenni della sua esistenza nella documentazione del catasto risalgono al 1427, quando era la dimora dei Vespucci, una della più importanti famiglie alleate dei Medici e legata da vincolo di parentela al casato del noto Amerigo Vespucci. The first sign of its existence dates back to an entry in the cadastre registry in 1427, when it was owned by the Vespucci family, one of the most important allies of the Medici and related to the famous Amerigo Vespucci. Nel corso del Seicento la villa venne ampliata e abbellita secondo il gusto estetico corrente e furono costruite una cappella privata e la limonaia. La realizzazione dei magnifici affreschi nel salone al piano terra, raffiguranti alcuni degli antenati del casato che avevano ricoperto importanti cariche pubbliche a Firenze, è testimonianza della volontà dei proprietari di rendere quanto più prestigiosa la residenza. Vari passaggi di proprietà si sono susseguiti dalla metà del XIX secolo ad oggi, ma la villa ha preservato intatti tutto il suo fascino e il suo splendore. La torre, andata distrutta durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, è stata accuratamente ricostruita dall’architetto Nello Baroni, che ne ha esaltato le originarie caratteristiche quattrocentesche.

In the 17th century the villa was extended and embellished according to what was in fashion at the time; a private chapel and a lemon conservatory were also built in the same period. As the owners wished to make their estate even more prestigious, they has some magnificent frescoes painted in the hall on the ground floor, depicting family ancestors who held important public positions in Florence. Since the mid 1800s, the villa has had several owners, but it has maintained its charm and splendor intact. The tower, which was destroyed during World War II, was then carefully rebuilt by architect Nello Baroni, who glorified its original 15th-century features.

L’accesso avviene da un cancello che immette in un lungo e scenografico viale ghiaioso incorniciato da olivi e giaggioli. The access is from a gate leading to a long and spectacular pebbled road framed by olive trees and irises.
