ore often than not we mistake fashion to be that of only clothing, this however is not the case. Fashion can be related to the way you walk, how you speak, the places you choose to eat and the car that you drive, these are just some factors that make up a true Fashionista. ‘Fashion On Wheels’ is a campaign that infuses high-end couture with racey, yet stylish cars. Cars that make you stand-out of the crowd and be noticed, cars like the aggressively sexy Jaguar F-type. Besides being a Le-Mans winning brand, the British motoring giant - Jaguar, has also been the creator of legendary and iconic motoring vehicles, driven and adored by many infamous celebrities and fashion moguls such as Audrey Hepburn and James Dean. One car that has stood out from the rest, has to be the timeless Jaguar E-type, a car so fascinating that even Enzo Ferrari himself called it ‘The most beautiful car ever built‘, up until this day the E-type is loved by many celebrated motoring enthusiasts like Jeremy Clarkson, who also announced the Jaguar E-type as the number one car of all time in his Clarksons top 100 showcase. Stemmed from the DNA of the legendary Jaguar E-Type, The all new Jaguar F-Type is unbelievably Jaguars first two seater sports car in 40 years. Heritage can be both an asset and a burden for a modern-day motor vehicle, more especially when the predecessor is regarded as the ‘Ultimate Cat‘ - however with its intimidating design and sexy sleek lines, not forgetting a powerful V8 motor that sprints to 100km/h in 4.2 seconds, the Jaguar F-Type proves to be a worthy successor to the reknowned E-Type.

FASHION ON WHEELS
Our friends at CMH Jaguar Umhlanga offered to play host to our very first “Fashion On Wheels“ photoshoot, what started of as being a normal photoshoot with these beautiful machines, ended up in a mini-Fashion showcase. Local established designers - Bianca Warren, Larisa Terblanche, Sfiso Sabelo and New York designer Pearl Naidoo dressed our models who are also prominent individuals in the Fashion industry, Rahista Gopal - Brand Ambassador for Red Square, Renalda Hoffman - the current Miss KZN, Stacey Naicker - Brand Ambassador and La Perla Model and Shelley Buckle - current Miss Ballito and Miss DeafSA. Lipstick Red Magazine’s cover girl, Kyleigh Lazarus played MC for the event, whilst the invited guests were kept entertained by the elegant couture being modeled against the backdrop of the stunning Jaguar F-Type convertible and the all new coupe. CMH Jaguar Umhlanga was kind enough to give away awesome Jaguar F-Type caps to all guests, as well as tasty finger snacks for this early Saturday morning showcase, The branded Jaguar and Lipstick Red cupcakes from Cupcake Heaven were a huge hit and tasted just as good as they looked.

JAGUAR F-TYPE
FROM THE DNA OF THE LEGENDARY JAGUAR E-TYPE There is no doubt that the Jaguar F-Type is a sports car for the sophisticated, elegant and fashion concious, from the exterior the beautifully designed sleek lines of the aluminium body will be begging you to jump in, and in the cabin, the snug and firm seats look upon a cockpit-like dashboard with all the instruments required, should you have an urge to carve corners on your way to your hairstylist. There is much that can be said about the Jaguar F-Type, one thing is for sure though - It would go with any outfit. Visit CMH Jaguar Umhlanga and see for yourself.

ndie folk, love of hats, game of thrones and tattoo’s make up the big love in Kyleigh Lazarus’ life. This spontaneous spirit driven lady describes her first radio gig as life changing. She joined Durban’s number one , East Coast radio at the age of 19. When asked what lead her to a career in music, she modestly replied ‘I am a musician, I was introduced to the royal academy of music at 8 years old and I learnt to play the piano years before that’. Kyleigh has a ‘comfort is key’ fashion sense, she hardly wears heels, ‘the thought of sore feet or walking like a baby calf is agonizing’. She loves being herself because following a crowd is just too much of an effort. She confessed that her fixed glasses are not a fashion statement but rather for her bad sight. Her quick grip of music comes from her talented family of musicians. The industry is so alive with so much young talent. When asked how she keeps the local is lekker vibe alive on air , she said ‘in my opinion local is lekker phased out long ago, due to our local music being so improved you can’t distinguish local music from international artists. I don’t do much to keep the vibe alive on air, local music is at a point where it keeps itself growing’.

‘local music is at a point where it keeps itself growing’ Kyleigh’s recent on air tattoo caused a stir on social media with posts and feeds trending on this brave soldier. She enjoys a massive fan base and is always active on instagram and facebook updating her followers on her lipstick fascinations, weekend reads and love of sound tracks. She believes that her followers enjoy her for being genuine. She currently does the top 20 charts on Red Cap Radio and announced to us that soon we will see her doing something a little more upbeat and spontaneous . . . TV maybe?
Random Randomness with Kyleigh Lazarus 1. Jeans or Jeggings? Jeans. I can’t work without pockets. 2. Can you change a tyre? Sure... 3. Are you a good babysitter? Yes. I absolutely adore kids 4. What your least favorite word? Weakness.

The Geness Foundation nominated the KwaZulu Natal Blind & Deaf Society as the beneficiary for this inaugural event.

The Geness foundation established projects that respond to the critical development needs of all humanity in the area of health, education, entrepreneurship and sport in Africa, their objectives fit well with that of The Blind and Deaf society who assists and empowers the blind, partially blind and the deaf individuals within our community. Varshan Sookhun the Executive director of the show must have been over the moon when the venue started filling up by elegantly dressed patrons making their mark to help others, “I have always been very passionate about being involved with various charitable causes,

and am also a follower of fashion trends, so when this opportunity of creating and producing an event that brought these elements together presented itself, I had to jump at the chance to make it happen” he said. The venue filled up with known faces socializing, eager photographers stood by while the guests entered walking down a red carpet, the theme reminded us much of The Oscars. Many people came out to support this wonderful charity event. The fashion show was presented by eight designers showcasing evening wear, ladies and male executive wear, swimwear,
cocktail as well as a very interesting category – the recycled category which saw some guests put on a peculiar face. The Geness Foundation made a R30 000 financial contribution to the charity, and Dr Sheena Geness said she was also pleased that Durbanites contributed a further R50 000 from the various auctions that took place after the show therefore, raising R80 000 in total for the KwaZulu Natal Blind & Deaf Society.

Vodacom Durban July
T
he 118th running of the glamorous raceday was in a blaze of Hollywood, Bollywood and Nollywood glitz and glamour as the 2014 Vodacom Durban July drews another full house to Africa’s Greatest Horseracing event. This was staged against a backdrop of tinsel town pizzazz dictated by the theme “The Big Screen” which govern decor in the hospitality suites and marquees and the traditional fashion bonanza on the day The Vodacom Durban July rolled out the red carpet once again attracting a stellar gathering of the country’s A-list celebrities, mingling with captains of industry, musicians, sport stars and fashionistas, all eager to put their fashionable best forward.
22 | LSR aug / sept 2014
With the final field reduced to sixteen runners, the rugged and easygoing Geoff Woodruff trained Louis the King, has been something of a ‘people’s champion’ long before the final field was confirmed, and has seen steady support in the week leading up to the race and looked to start favourite for the R3,5 million Vodacom Durban July. Steady ticket sales saw the infield parking sold out at an unusually early stage, and cautious punters and socialites have been steadily streaming into the racecourse in Avondale Road to purchase their tickets well in advance to avoid disappointment. This really showed out, the ground, vip paddock and marquees were buzzing with groups of people.
Fortunately the cold front that was predicted to sweep over the south of the country delayed its arrival, and fine warm and fashion-friendly weather was experienced for the day. The winds around 3pm did get slightly rowdy, announcements were made to close off Umbrella’s. The warm weather ensured that the days four fashion competitions, the Classic Racewear for Men and Women, the Most Striking Couple and the Best Raceday Hat or Fascinator was hotly contested and paraded from the minute the pre-judging started on the track at 9:30am. A flamboyant visual feast of 102 garments from the cream of the province’s student designers started the judging of this year’s Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award, presented by LIPSY, proved that fashion talent is alive and flourishing in KwaZulu-Natal. Five of Durban’s best fashion minds put their heads together to choose twenty-five young designers to proceed through to the semi-finals of the prestigious student designer competition. It was a big night for the twenty-five young designers who had evidently spent hours creating an ensemble that they believed best encompassed the Vodacom Durban July “The Big Screen” theme.
But at the end of the glamorous fashion show only ten designs that represented the crème de la crème of young fashion talent from colleges around KZN got the thumbs up from the panel of fashion industry judges. Raceday saw these 10 designers present their collections one final time to impress the panel of judges, made up of established invited designers and fashion industry experts. The young designer award, one of the biggest supported design competitions is ultimately aimed at emerging talent, this was won by Sadie Bosworth with her King Kong inspired look complete with a New York Skyline and a fighter plane fascinator which was a firm favorite amongst the judges. The lavish day saw visitors spending over R400 million over this iconic July weekend in Durban, most of which was spent on betting. Hotels, restaurants and night spots were gleaming from late trade and official after parties. This year saw patrons spoilt for choice with an array of entertainment marquees, the highlight being Jack Daniels “ Boomtown “ , never before had so many musicians gather in the same location to entertain the crowd. The sound was roaring from miles away, the residents around the rather quite street of Avondale must have joined in the music from the comfort of their homes. Award winning Mi Casa who has topped every major radio and music video chart jazzed Boomtown. The kind and queen themselves, Afropop duo Mafikizolo recently cleaned up at the recent SAMA’s, wowed the fans who came out and faced the rain in huge support.

eigh Schubert is a Durban born designer who left for Johannesburg in her teenage years; she studied fashion at Parktown College and landed her first job at Ninian & Lester where she found herself with the title of the company’s youngest merchandiser. Leigh Schubert is the master designer behind the clothing line “Leigh Schubert”, who’s signature style, is always clean but elegant, sexy but sophisticated and uncomplicated but punchy. After winning the invited designer category for the Durban designer show, Leigh decided it was serious time for a solo. After strategic planning she lunched her own label in 2002, she has fast become a worldwide trend. She just got back from Mercedes Benz Cape Town Fashion Week, were she showcased a feast for the eyes with coral delights, clean cut shapes , bold black and white color palettes in lightweight fabrics with a dash of color cocktails. We are loving summer already! We caught up with this talented designer to see exactly what happens inside her creative thought.

1. You just showcased at MBCTFW, how was the experience? **A new collection is always daunting. I get nervous before every show. I was pleased with the outcome however, and have had wonderful feedback and much interest from my customers eager to get their hands on a piece. 2. Do you have a specific research process when you start a new collection? **No... it all just pops into my head one day... then I sketch... we make a few pieces based on the concept, and it unfolds from there. 3. What do you think of Eco-fashion? **My own take on “eco” is to buy local. More “economy” than “ecological”. I think in order to make a difference, to create jobs and empower south Africans, consumers should choose to support clothes designed and manufactured in south Africa. 4. Do you think hair and makeup makes a difference on a model when promoting the designs? **Of course I think it’s important to carry the message through into an entire look by using the hair and makeup styling. 5. What colors should we be wearing? **whatever suits you! Monotone (blk and white) is very big for summer though.

“It’s our job as designers to set trends instead of follow them” 6. What is your view on the Tie-dye technique? **Works for some - but not for me. 7. How do you pick up on what’s trending and work it into your creations? **I’m always interested in magazines and online pages - so I see what’s coming through. I don’t generally purposefully put in what’s trending - I think it’s our job as designers to set trends instead of follow them. 8. As a designer what is the most challenging part of your job? **There’s a lot to think about - the process is long! Developing the range is the easy part - the production, distribution and retailing of the product is a daily challenge! 9. Does your work reflect your personal fashion taste? Please describe your personal style? **In some ways yes - however I prefer to wear black and my customers love color - so I always make a special black version for myself. My style is a bit rock and roll - and my design handwriting is a lot softer. However there’s always a juxtaposition of soft and hard in my collections as well as my own wardrobe.

uxury vehicle brand Mercedes Benz and African Fashion International (AFI) teamed up again to bring Cape Town Fashion Week at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on Thursday, 24 to Saturday, 26 July 2014. Silver Mercedes Benz illuminated the red carpet at the opening gala of Mercedes Benz – Fashion Week Cape Town. With multiple shows over the three-day period, the fashion week grants top-notch South African designers both established designers and emerging designers – a platform to unveil their 2014 spring/summer collections to the media, buyers, retail, celebrities, VIPs, and more. Apart from the established design names in the business, the annual couture conference affords young designers the opportunity to mesmerize audiences with their fresh ideas and share the runway with the elite crew of trendy exhibitors. Multiple designers showcase over a period of three days and the event is labeled as the premier Spring/Summer fashion event in South Africa. This is where the industry celebrates style, fashion, beauty trends and lifestyle. African Fashion International is the leading Fashion authority on the African continent and is committed to the promotion and development of South African design talent. After all, it seeks to further grow the fashion industry as a big business with a host of potential in South Africa by attracting the country’s talented and successful designers. It achieves this goal through creating leading, world-class platforms and workshops aimed at driving the growth of the industry. Business savvy fashionistas can also look forward the much-anticipated conference where speakers give budding designers business advice and tips on how to stay on trend. This allows designers the in’s an out’s on sustaining themselves financially. Overall it was a wonderful balance of fashion, ramp, business and success.
High Fashion Cape Town
In previous years, stalwart designers like David Tlale and Gavin Rajah have wowed fashion-fundi’s with creatively wonderful collections and grand displays of chic suits, glam gowns and more. Detailed embellishments, fresh contemporary style in addition to the high fashion models with perfectly proportioned bodies and perfectly structured hair and makeup. The attendees don’t compromise and maintain fabulously on trend and flaunt their sense of individual style. Looking at some of the designers collections, we see Spilt Milk - a proudly South African woman’s brand, the name comes from the saying “don’t cry over spilt milk” and symbolizes a positive outlook on life. Growing our work force Spilt Milk uses local labour, thus Spilt Milk portrays a confident classic, positive woman. Their collection of dresses, coats, and skirts are available at boutiques across SA, Namibia and Holland. Most of the design style was fresh in its approach to incorporate luxury with everyday lifestyle in its effortless sophistication and attention to detail. Each piece shared a dreamlike connection between the model and the item. The purpose of creating form and shape from material which is formless and shapeless was achieved by the months of dedicated contribution to the design process, the careful manufacturing of the garment and lastly by showcasing the collection on ramp and being received so wonderfully by fashion forward individuals.

Have you ever tried on a top or a shade of lipstick that makes your skin, eyes, and face come alive with endless possibility, only to test out another that’s almost exactly the same shade but makes you look tired, washed-out, and just plain awful? The first one probably matched your skin’s surface tone and undertone perfectly, while the second shade may have a totally wrong undertone for your skin. Seems confusing? You kind of understand, but don’t really know the difference between surface tone and undertone? When it comes to fashion and beauty, there are few keywords as prevalent as “cool undertones” and “warm undertones” In fact, we’re always hearing that identifying which category we fall into is integral to our overall attractiveness, but finding out where we fall is a mountain of confusion. The first step in grasping the concept? Understanding that our skin’s surface tone is the color complexion you’d describe yourself as having (ivory, light, medium, tan, dark, etc.) Your skin’s undertone is the color underneath the surface. You can have the same skin color as someone, but a different undertone, which are broken down like this: Cool (pink, red or bluish undertones) Warm (yellow, peachy, golden undertones) Neutral (a mix of warm and cool undertones)
k at the veins up right now and loo Push your sleeves e or green? If blu y wrist. Are the on the inside of your undertones. you likely have cool they look more blue, worth esIt’s . rm wa e u’r enish, yo If the veins look gre ins aren’t ve e u’r girls, is that yo tablishing with warm u’re seeyo e us ca be it k y loo actually green—the llow + blue = llow-toned skin (ye ing them through ye green.)
Skin tone is so important in choosing the right makeup, but you may be wondering just how to go about identifying your own skin tone. What should you look for? So often we find trips to the makeup counter end in disappointment, because after hours of being bombarded by the counter assistant, you are still not entirely convinced that you are making the right foundation choice. The skin’s undertone is the warm, cool, or neutral hue that shows through the surface color of skin. Although the surface color of skin changes depending on the level of sun damage and other skin conditions like acne, the skin’s undertone remains consistent. Knowing whether your undertone is warm, cool or neutral is the key to ensuring that your foundation matches your skin and color products look natural. When foundation doesn’t properly match skin’s undertone, the color stands out as orange to copper, pink to rose, or ashen. How to ace the base. Face it, it’s either a hit or miss when it comes to choosing the right foundation, and a lot of the time, we miss. It will be simpler now that we have understood that it isn’t as basic as just applying a colour to your surface tone. You probably know that the goal is to look like you’re not wearing any makeup at all. Unless you’re opting for bright lipstick and dramatically lined eyes, most women want their skin to seem vibrant, glowing and completely natural taking inspiration from our lady favorites like Kim K, Jlo and Eva Longoria. For most women, foundation is a must: It can help hide scars, blemishes, blotchy skin and sadly wrinkle. . further more, some varieties can moisturize your skin, control oil, fight acne or provide sun protection.
Think about whether you look better in silver or gold jewelry (Not which you like more, but which actually makes you look more radiant, glowing, and awake.) Typically, girls with cool undertones look better in silver and platinum metals, and warm-toned women look better in gold, so true!
Although foundation is sometimes called the blank canvas for all other makeup, it’s often difficult to find the right type and shade of foundation. There are literally hundreds of brands and types of foundations on the market, and they all come in different colors and consistencies. It can get even more complicated trying to figure out if you should use a liquid, powder, stick or mineral foundation. And once you decide on a type, you still have to select the foundation that best matches your skin tone. Although many kinds of foundation are suitable for many skin types., some foundations may be better for your skin than others. If you have dry skin, it’s important to find a foundation that moisturizes your skin and gives it some shine. Liquid foundations, certain cream foundations and foundation sticks will all help trap moisture in the skin -- avoid matte foundations that can make your skin appear dry. However, if you have oily skin, a foundation with a matte finish is a great choice for you. Such foundations include creams, mousses, powders and mineral foundations. A matte finish will make your skin appear less shiny, and these products generally won’t clog pores Most foundations will work well if you have normal or combination skin, so you can just focus on color or level of coverage. If you don’t have to worry about dry or oily skin, you may want to use heavier foundations, such as a cream or stick, to conceal wrinkles or blemishes. However, if you don’t have much to conceal, you can go for a lighter option like pressed powder. It all depends on your level of coverage and comfort. If you have aging skin, you may want to use a thicker foundation that can better conceal fine lines and wrinkles. Consider liquids in double wear, creams and mousses, but don’t cake them on too thick. If you opt for a thicker foundation, it’s even more important to match your makeup with your skin tone. For golden, bronze or olive skin as established belong to the warm category and usually look best in nude, beige or pink foundations -- these tones help bring out the natural colors in your skin. People with skin that’s pink, rosy, beige should use foundations with light porcelain or pale brown hues that will give skin more color.

So if you love everything fashion, picking a scent can be as easy as peeking at the labels that fill your closet. Do yo-yo when it comes to fragrance. Marilyn was sleeping in Chanel 5 and nothing else. The best Women’s Perfumes are indisputably beautiful, representative of their place in history and yet timeless enough to remain a popular classic. You wear perfume to boost your confidence and to suit your shifting moods so going from one to another is perfectly normal. Just restrain yourself to a selected few - remember you aim at building up a signature fragrance wardrobe, not a disaster. What does EDP and EDT mean? The counter lady lost you with her perfume jargon? it is not that complicated really. Here’s what you need to know: ranked from the strongest, longer-lasting to the lightest. Perfumes can be divided in Parfum, Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette and Eau de Cologne. Parfum is the most expensive as the richest in terms of fragrant oils. The most commonly worn is EDT, which lasts up to 3 to 4 hours. How do I know this is right for me? Try to forget the pretty packaging, the cool designer and the perfect model or celeb fronting the bottle for a minute. We know, that the association makes you feel fabulous but avoid getting influenced by marketing devices. If you love a smell, don’t over analyse and just go for it. A fragrance is very physical so if it is love at first spritz, it means you have found your confidence-boosting scent. Remember, it is about your signature scent. Avoid layering fragrances. Like music, their accords are carefully orchestrated so layering results in a disastrous clash of notes and you appear out of control. Apply your perfume to the warm spots of your body: wrists, neck, décolleté, behind your knees and to your ankles. The perfume blends in with your own natural oils faster. If your fragrance tends to evaporate too fast, mix a couple of drops to a scent-free moisturiser and apply all over your body.

here’s been one overwhelming winner for fashion trends of the season in celebrity’s wardrobes - monochrome. Worn on and off the red carpet by everyone from Kate Beckinsale to Emma Stone, each star has their own take on the trend. Be inspired to create your own black and white ensemble. Monochrome Believe it or not, monochrome is everywhere. There is an angularity to some of the trends this year, design-wise and the monochrome makes more sense when you see it in the context of other trends. If colour blocking and bold bright colour pops is not your style, you might just fall in love with the monochromatic trend. This look is elegant and classy and is perfect for an office meeting, a formal dinner or even after work drinks .The monochrome look is easy to put together as it requires the most basic coloured ensembles – black and white which can easily be found in your wardrobe. You can choose a white dress and team it with a black blazer or cardigan . Try keeping your accessories in black and white. Carry a classic black clutch, heels or pumps in black preferably. If you have something in stripes, add it to your ensemble but the rule is to not overdo, so make sure that you’re carrying only one striped item. Geometric Sitting easily with the monochrome theme is the geometric fabric designs on the catwalk at present. Stripes, jumbo checks and clever optical illusion patterns are really on trend. It may seem quite peculiar but this trend style is landing on some of the most influential females in the industry. Breaking out from the confines of monochrome, you can find bold bright colours in geometric styling, so let your imagination run wild as long as it’s within those straight lines. Monochrome clothing with a zesty colour pop twist.

This spring is all about looking younger and feeling refreshed! This means young and old can wear beautiful coral lipstick in different shades, to achieve a fashionable and trendy look. Coral is such a beautiful colour and it is suitable for a relaxed everyday look or a lovely light luncheon with your colleagues. There are so many shades of coral, you will be sure to find one that suits your skin tone. The philosophy with make-up is, less is more! Bobbi Brown adopts this same philosophy with her makeup creation. One of the mistakes our mothers made when doing make-up (especially in the 80’s) was that they had more than one focus area on their face and too much make-up. Such a look will unfortunately age you. Choose one focus area. If you have beautiful eyes and you love applying a lot of make-up, then keep your cheeks very soft and your lips a very natural colour. When you do decide on a coral lip, make sure that this is your focus area and keep your eye make-up minimal. A healthy cheek with a sunkissed goddess glow will complete the look. Even if you do not have the fullest lips, now is the time to experiment and get your Spring Monochrome makeup look on. 1. Apply your primer and foundation. 2. Give your eyes a gentle sweep of color. A very light and neutral bronzy glitter will do the trick. 3. Apply mascara on the lashes to thicken and plump volume. 4. A smudge of peach or coral lipstick blended in with your concealer is an unexpected antidote to dark under eye circles 5.. Give your cheeks a healthy glow with a suitable blusher and a cheekbone highlighter. 6. Give your lips some definition and line them with a lip pencil. 7. Make some dots with the lip pencil. This is an amazing tip to make your lips stay on longer. 8. Fill the lips with a nice lip crayon. 9. Apply powder to the lips with a brush. (This is another great trick to make your lipstick stay on for longer. A translucent powder works best.) 10. Apply a see-through lip gloss to make the look even more playful and full

5 Ways to Decorate With Radiant Orchid.
Add a Pop of it
So it has been seen on the catwalks and fashion designers have easily worked this colour in their fashion trends, but what about working this lush colour into your interior decorating? These easy subtle ways will assist with following the latest colour trend without seriously breaking the bank and making huge change overs. 1. Add a pop of it The most simple way to integrate this color into a common area, like a living room, is by adding some purple decorative toss pillows and possibly a throw on a sofa or chairs as accent pieces. “Most living room fabrics today are neutral or solid tones as it is, so the vibrant purple will add a great pop of color to your room.” 2. Don’t go overboard Color is personal, almost all colors can play together depending on your mood, personality and the season. “I would suggest not using too much of a dominating colour in one room to avoid going overboard.
3. Pair it with neutrals Purple can be so strong, you will be safe pairing it with neutrals like white, off-white, gray or black. “White or beige with purple lends itself to create a relaxing mood. Black with purple creates a dramatic feel. In my opinion, silver or gray goes best with a vibrant purple. These two colors together create a perfect balance between elegance and sophistication,” 4. Layer colors Layering colors works especially well for the bedroom. For example, a purple comforter works so well with a white, beige or gray blanket, or a neutral color comforter looks lovely with purple quilt. Sophisticated wall hangings can add a soft touch. 5. Add some decorative pillows Using decorative pillows, with different textures which have surface treatments in various shades of this vibrant purple, add a lot of depth and interest to a room.

GOOGLE GLASS
I
f you still think smartphones and tablets are amazing devices that represent a ‘new’ era of personal technology, you’ll be amazed to learn they could already be well on their way to becoming obsolete, just as they had started making the PC obsolete. In a couple of years, your iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S5 could be viewed with condescension by a new generation of users wearing smart glasses, which can do most things a smartphone can plus a whole lot more.
Google Glass contains the fundamental bits of any computer, including a CPU, sensors such as GPS, speakers, microphone and battery, to which are added a tiny projector and a prism that redirects the light onto your retina. Each component is neatly embedded in the frame. To keep the device as light as possible, most of the processing will actually take place in the cloud (like it does with Apple’s Siri), so a good mobile broadband signal is essential.
Powered by voice control – so no keyboards – Google Glass overlay the world you see around you with related information beamed onto your retina by a prism that receives from a tiny projector inside the lens. You see both the physical world and all relevant data associated with it, the kind of data that right now – in the relative stone age of PCs, tablets and smartphones – sits on a separate database somewhere, waiting for you to connect the dots.
When you use Google Glass, you make it possible for Google to build an infinitely more detailed profile of you. The search engine giant will not only know what you’ve been searching for, but where you’ve been and even what you’ve been looking at, and lots, lots more. It will be able to provide this to advertisers, regardless of whether you’re an unnamed user in the data. With Google Glass, the era of privacy is not only at an end, it’s about to be nuked.
With Google Glasses, the technology disappears from in front of you and you get data and applications in the context of what you’re doing or what you’re looking at. Want to know the weather right now? You won’t have to find the weather app and click on it to get a report. Weather apps for Google Glass will know when you’re looking up at the clouds and provide you with an instant weather report. If you’re unsure of what’s at a particular street address, look at the premises and Google Glass will tell you who’s inside, and possibly even show you the indoor plans along with a 360° panorama view if it’s a business.

Tasting
With Yegas Naidoo
44 | LSR aug / sept 2014
Part of our wine investigation led us to seek expert advice from esteemed international wine judge Yegas Naidoo, She was kind enough to invite us to spend a wonderful afternoon with her to conduct this interview, a special treat was a first hand wine tasting experience at “The Wine Show lead by Yegas herself. We certainly gathered some useful pointers, things that can be so easily overlooked but are so crucial in wine tasting. Tasting wine is a lot more than simply taking a big swig and gulping it down. We could all borrow a book and read on the complexities of wine, but in order to get a first-hand understanding, you are going to have to pop a cork and start tasting wine to get a better understanding of its vast components. The proper way to hold a wine glass is by the stem, when holding the glass by the bowl, we naturally warm up the glass with our body temperature. We want to taste wine at its optimal temperature to get a true interpretation, the unintentional warming is undesirable. The five basic observations and activities to wine tasting are : Colour, Swirl, Smell, Taste and Savor.
Colour The fail safe way to observe the color of wine is to hold the glass of wine in front of a white background. The range of colors you see depends on whether you are tasting a white or a red wine. Colour observation is vital because as white wines age, they gain color, while as red wines age they lose color or brilliance. There are many reasons why a wine may have more or less colour, such as , the maturity, the different varieties of grape used, the storage process may play a role eg, White wines aged in oak usually exhibit a darker colour. It is best to observe the bubbles of Sparkling or Champagne, A good quality Champagne tends to have tiny bubbles, beads and a consistent pertillence. Swirl Why do we swirl the wine? To allow oxygen to mix with the wine, releasing the esters, ethers and aldehydes, which yield its bouquet of colour and fragrance. In other words, swirling aerates the wine and gives you a better smell.
Smell This is the most important part of wine tasting. You can only perceive four tastes - sweet, sour, bitter, and salt - but the average person can smell over 2,000 different scents, and wine has over 200 of its own. Now that you have swirled the wine and released the bouquet, you should smell the wine three times. Typically the third smell usually gives you more information than the first smell did. What does the wine smell like? What kind of nose does it have? The “nose” is a word that wine tasters use to describe the bouquet and aroma of the wine. Pinpointing the nose of the wine helps you identify certain characteristics such as are you smelling citrus, apricot, black cherry or maybe tar? For white the three major grape varieties: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Riesling. Keep smelling them and smelling them until you can identify the differences, one from the other. For the reds, it’s a bit more difficult, but you can still take three major grape varieties: Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Taste Too many people think that tasting means taking a sip and swallowing immediately. This is incorrect. Tasting is something you do with your taste buds. Take a generous sip and swirl the wine around your tongue. You have taste buds all over your mouth. They are on both sides of the tongue, underneath, on the tip, and they extend to the back of your throat. If you simply take a gulp of wine and throw it down your throat, you bypass all those important taste buds. You should as part of your tasting, draw a bit of air into your mouth along with the wine, this further aerates the wine and helps bring out the flavors. Aftertaste - This is the overall taste and balance of the components of the wine that lingers in your mouth. How long does the balance last? Or sometimes stated as what is the length of the finish of the wine. Usually the sign of a high-quality wine is a long, pleasing aftertaste. The taste of many of the great wines with all of their components in harmony. Savor After you have had a chance to taste the wine, sit back for a few moments and savor it. Think about what you just experienced and ask yourself the following questions to help focus your impressions.
Wine might appear to be ‘sophisticated’ at entry level because wine presents in myriad forms and can appeal to all from the novice to the experienced, you do not have to necessarily explain your choice unlike a Cocktail that might present in various formats that might inspire or at the same time deter. Today the main drivers for drinking wine is that it is ‘Heart’ friendly. Yegas explains that wine should be drunk in conjunction with a meal and one or two 125ml glasses a day will suffice - Always be aware of the consequences of drinking and driving. One cannot be too ‘precious’ about food and wine pairings but the rule is to avoid like with like – a wine with bouncy acidity is not necessarily going to match a dish with high citrus, a spicy full bodied Shiraz might not necessarily pair well with a robustly spiced meat dish.

Ria Gyapersad, Creative Director at Glampalm Hair, has come to your rescue this winter with advice on how to rehab your hair and keep it looking fantastic throughout the season of split-ends. In all eagerness for the colourful season of Spring, Glampalm prepares you for a fun colour fest and helpful know how’s to approach this season with fun loving new revived Glam hair.
Fast Fact In Winter you need to change your hair products to offer you more of a moisturising treatment. Heaters and dry air dehydrate your hair in winter, and you also tend to use your hairdryer and straightener more. Luckily, Glampalm has a patented Healing Stone™ technology which not only allows the styling of your locks, but also creates beautiful, healthy and shiny hair.
Did You Know Healthy hair is the direct result of a healthy you. Many people do not realise that you need to look after your hair just as you would look after your body and skin, by exercising and following a good diet.
FOUR top tips
LOVE IS IN
Avoid harsh chemicals
Eat clean
Colouring your hair creates extensive damage which can be avoided – embrace the au naturel you or make sure to get it done by a professional hairstylist.
Nutrition plays a big part in your hair’s appearance; foods such as salmon, walnuts and eggs ensure that your hair thrives throughout the winter months.
Reverse the salt-andpepper effect
Boycott the brush
Two minerals that have the ability to reverse grey hair are zinc and copper which can be found in foods such as seafood, chocolate (YAY), and mushrooms.
52 | LSR aug / sept 2014
The type of brush that you use has a big impact on your hair’s health. Be careful not to brush and comb too often - using appropriate methods and tools will keep your hair strong.
Give your hair a pamper party! Winter wreaks havoc on your skin, lips, and weight (cringe); however, the most neglected area during winter is your hair. With sunny days and the warmer weather upon us, welcome the season of spring by ensuring your hair looks its absolute best with these four steps from Glampalm:
Trim your tresses Winter is one of the biggest culprits of split-ends. Ensure that your hair looks healthy in the warmer months by visiting the hair salon for a trim. Your length doesn’t necessarily have to be compromised – approximately 1.5cm of length (depending on the damage) needs to be sacrificed to sport beautiful spring hair.
Condition. Condition. Condition.
THE hair
Nutrients and moisture escape your hair during winter so - in preparation for spring - make sure to condition your hair at least twice a week. A handy tip is to rinse all of the water out of your hair post-shampoo and to apply the deep-conditioning treatment. Wrap your hair in cling wrap for 15 minutes so that the conditioner penetrates the hair cuticles and rinse. This routine yields remarkable results!
Be picky about your plates Avoid metal or glass-plated hairstylers as they will damage your hair further. Ceramic-plated hair irons, such as those in the Glampalm range, are the best for your hair as they heat up evenly preventing any hot spots that can damage your hair. Glampalm’s patented Healing Stone™ technology works to smooth your hair, leaving it looking shiny and healthy, like actress, model and Glampalm brand ambassador, Ana Trujic’s gorgeous locks.
Excess-orise Spring hair accessories are playful and will boost your flirty and fun side. With an array of accessories to choose from headbands, clip-in flowers and must-have in-season hats – there is no stopping the creativity and style.

#10 Day Cha
Winter is almost over and we all know that means one thing Get Fit- and Fast. This month we show you a few killer slim down secrets from Stacey N and her trainer Jay Shaik from Escape Umhlanga. These dieting secrets should help you get rid of that winter weight and have a sexy figure that every woman wants.
Stacey N (International lingerie model, brand ambassador for LA PERLA) is looking toned as ever and we met up with her and her personal trainer Jay Shaik to get the scoop on her diet and workout routine. First up we asked Stacey what had been her biggest challenge and lessons learned through her journey of fitness with Jay. She replied “there’s no quick fix! Crash diets don’t work. It’s about consistency and discipline. It’s about maintaining a healthy lifestyle’’. So what keeps Stacey motivated for a healthy lifestyle? If you look good you feel good, she replied. I eat very healthy. Eggs on brown bread for breakfast, I snack on protein bars, nuts and fruits. Lunch and dinners range from sushi, chicken, fish, veggies to big healthy salads. Stacey follows a diet plan set for her by Jay, but she admits that she loves carbs and eats them in moderation. We went on to ask Stacey how she achieves such great results in her workout. “I love training. There’s not one exercise that can change your body It’s a culmination of many different actions and movement that make a difference.
Below is Jays diet and exercise plan for Stacey when she attends upcoming shoots. Try this 10 day challenge. If you stick thoroughly to this plan you’re guaranteed to lose at least 3KG. 1. The Bar Extension The whole object of this exercise is movement and body weight orientated. The movement is basically a low bicep curl, to bring your arms into the position it was at originally. Muscles worked are the biceps, shoulders and back. Time frame should be 10 minutes doing 20 reps and increasing to 30 reps and then 40 reps. Recovery times are short and intensity levels are extremely high. Keep your back straight and lower the bar as far as you can. 2. The Leg Curl For this exercise we can increase the intensity by adding more weights. This is a very taxing exercise as the leg bar can get extremely heavy. The muscle groups that are being targeted are the gluteus, quadriceps and hamstrings. The endurance based workout will firm up these areas with unbelievable results and serves as a greater fat burner. Do 3 sets of which should be 20,30 and 40 curls. Do this exercise every second day of the 10 day challenge. 3. The Body Weight Squat. One of the best exercises for you whether you’re trying to lose weight or build muscle. Stand with your feet slightly wider than your hip width apart, and point your toes slightly outward. Squat down until your thighs are at least parallel to the floor. Try not to arch your back or extend your knees past your toes. You can do 3 sets of 20 reps with 1 minute intervals between reps. Grab some dumb bells to get the best out of the squats. Target zones; calves hips, thighs, butt. CARDIO: EVERY ALTERNATIVE DAY 15 MINUTES IS ENOUGH.
