Whether classic or edgy, this full-coverage footwear can be comfortable and chic

A great pair of tall boots are a clothing staple that should be found in every woman’s closet. There are tons of different styles – heel, flat, wedge, over the knee, embellished, pointed toe, round toe, etc., not to mention all the color options, but right now Brown ankle flats or riding boots are most favored. Winter outfit pairing would mean jeans, tights and skirts and we have some perfect combination style tips.

1.

If wearing brown or black boots, try choosing a darker shade of jeans, this will help blend in with your legs giving it a longer slim look.

2.

When wearing darker col ors at the bottom with dark boots try to balance your look at the top with burgundy or black as this helps keep your body in proportion and doesn’t make you look to bottom heavy.

3.

A line and pencil skirts work great with boots, but remember to leave a space between the hem of your skirt and the top of your boots. Showing some leg breaks up your look, even if it’s to sneak a look at your plum colored tights in side.

4.

Your overall look should be balanced, keep heavy accessories to a minimum and add soft makeup to accentuate femininity. Boots should be your focus.

Winter is my favorite season by far, and with it comes cooling temperatures, falling leaves, and colorful foliage. Winter is arguably the best season for fashion too, and this season there is so many fab new styles cropping up that my wallet is in serious danger! With winter merchandise already starting to hit stores, it can be too tempting not to start picking up some new pieces for the season. It’s still hot everywhere, but if you’re like me, you can’t wait until it gets cooler to start wearing your new finds. The trick is to find ways of incorporating your new winter pieces into your current summer wardrobe.

Wear Later:

Come winter, it will be all about the layering. Layer that varsity bomber jacket over a pair of denim overalls for casual chic, or work that varsity bomber with a pair of skinny jeans, a body suit, and some sexy heels for a laid-back date night

Leather:

Real or faux, leather will be everywhere this season. While leather is often a staple for cooler weather, you can definitely rock leather in warmer temps too!

Wear Now:

Try a floral button down top tucked into a leather skirt, or pair a leather tee with a pair of silky shorts and heels for an easy, breezy look. A leather vest will provide a stylish extra layer with a mini dress and wedge sneakers without making you sweat.

Wear Later:

When the weather starts to cool, a plus size leather moto jacket layered over EVERYTHING will keep you warm and stylish at the same time. Throw on an oversized cardigan sweater or blazer over the floral top and leather skirt and pair with tights and ankle booties for a cute daytime look. That same floral button-down can be paired with leather leggings for the weekend.

See Through:

Sporty

Sporty, athletic-inspired looks are a MAJOR trend this winter, and it’s a perfect trend to give your weekend or other casual looks a bit of a facelift.

Wear Now:

Try a varsity bomber jacket now with a pair of denim shorts, a skater skirt, or over a midi dress. Pair track pants or joggers with your favorite tank or crop top and a pair of heels for a sexy, but laid-back evening look. Or try a sporty mini dress with sneakers. Sneakers are having a major moment in fashion. This is THE season for comfy footwear, so take advantage!!

Sheer lace and other see through fabrics are a big trend this winter, and they work for both casual and evening looks. From sporty to evening wear, this accent has taken center stage and I like this.

Wear Now:

Try a sheer heel with your favorite summer dress to give your old dress new life. Pair a mesh sweatshirt with a crop top and denim shorts for casual cuteness, or try a sheer maxi dress or a dress with illusion panels with flats or heels.

Wear Later:

Those sheer heels will look amazing with a velvet suit or sparkly dress for all the upcoming holiday parties (yes, that time of year is coming soon!).

Pair a sheer dress over skinny pants for a straight-from-the-runway look. For a laid-back look with plenty of style, try that mesh or sheer sweatshirt with a pair of boyfriend jeans, a leather moto jacket, and sneakers or heels.

Florals/Plaid

In the prints department, expect to see tons of floral prints and plaids. These classic prints are easy to wear and help add more visual interest to all of your solid basics.

Wear Now:

Wear a plaid or floral tee now with a skater skirt, jeans, or shorts and cap the look off with your favorite flat sandals for a no-fuss look. Try a floral dress with heels for a pretty date look. A plaid vest can be worn now, paired with a mini-dress or skinny jeans and a tank.

Wear Later:

Add an oversized cardigan and kneehigh boots to that floral or plaid dress for the perfect weekend casual look. Those plaid and floral tees can be paired under suits for work, or with jeans and sweaters. Mix floral and plaid patterns for a romantic grunge look.

Jumpsuits:

Jumpsuits have been popular for the last few seasons, and there doesn’t appear to be any signs that this trend is letting up. If you haven’t tried a jumpsuit yet, now is the time to give these stylish onesies a try!

Wear Now:

A jumpsuit can work now for day or night. Pair a black jumpsuit with a sexy pair of strappy heels for a sleek evening look, or try a printed romper with flat sandals for daytime chic. A lightweight cardigan can stave off aircondition chill.

Wear Later:

Take that jumpsuit into crisp fall weather by pairing it with a cute cropped jacket. Pair a bright color with your black jumpsuit for an unexpected fall color palette. For an on-trend, winterready twist, add a cropped jacket with leather details and open-toe booties to a printed jumpsuit.

CAMEL C O AT S

During the crispy cold mornings we need something cozy and comfortable, you know the kind of piece that will make us look stylish but at the same time be of the colour to show warmth. Winter is the season for layering, chic overcoats, new experimentation with outerwear but there is something so classic about the camel coat that has us all insanely hooked on its effortlessness. It certainly adds a bit of style to any outfit and is about the only colour to make your outfit look instantly expensive and sophisticated. This colour has been seen for years on the fashion scene, it simply is timeless.

28 | LSR june 2015

We all own a black coat but camel is the perfect colour for winter right now. Try not to match it with loud bold colors as this will lose its effect rather keep it simple and neutral by pairing or layering underneath with burgundy, browns, or bottle green.

Reasons why we love the camel coat. . . 1.

They’ve been in style for more than 50 years.

2.

You instantly look more expensive and so phisticated, just pull out the inside sleeves of your sweater and you will see the difference.

3.

It is a trend that you can wear at any age and not be questioned

4.

Big names like Jackie Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe and Princess Diana embraced the look in their time.

5.

This colour is versatile, it can go from ca sual with boyfriend jeans and sneakers to glitter glam night in a split second.

ta s s e l s &

F ringes

Tassels and fringes are trending hard for several seasons, so get involved!

30 | LSR june 2015

Though you might associate tassels with vintage furniture trimmings and graduation caps, these slinky ornaments are swiftly becoming one of the season’s most important fashion accents. Whether you chose to wear this trend loud or as subtle as a little belt, it is a sure fun addition to your outfit and best of all it adds texture and movement. Make this tassel trend match your personality and inspire your own take on this look.

We love that these flirty, decorative embellishments are having it’s moment. And what’s not to love? Not only are tassels incredibly versatile--they can be worn as earrings, dangle from your handbag, or lace up your shoe, they also bring a playfulness to your wardrobe basics and you can find them in array of exciting colors and textures.

Get inspired by this classic trend. What we love most about this single trend is that it goes a big way in sometimes the littlest way. . .like even the smallest tassel embellishment in your shoes is enough to give you a noticed finish to your outfit. One statement accessories is also a sure way to work this trend, team up a fringe, tassel necklace with a plain white fitted t shirt and boyfriend jeans. Fringes are always an eye catcher, the subtle accentuating of the skirt and when the wind blows each long strand moves gently. This look is incredibly relaxed, effortlessly cool and can be lots of fun and yes these are the subtly ways that you can wear the trend without looking like you have stepped out of the set for a wild wild west movie.

Things you will need: > Paper towels > Hair spray > Comb/Brush > Hair Elastic > Leave in conditioning spray

If you’d like to curl your hair but don’t want to get into store-bought plastic rollers, metal pins and clips, maybe you should try the old -time paper curl. The cost is zero, the result is amazing, paper won’t damage hair as do curlers of harder materials and the bonus there is no heat involved.

Step by Step These curls are beautiful, bouncy and scream volume. They can be worn perfectly as a stand alone or combined with other styles to create an upstyle. Braids, buns and accessories work well with this style. A versatile look. If you desire tight curls and if the process is carried out correctly, you can get about 2-3 of curls out of this look. 8.

When you reach the head, this is for tighter bouncier curls, to secure the curl, tie the paper towel as though you are tying the first step of tying a shoelace. If your desire is loose open curls, then stop rolling the curls ¾ way through and don’t tie the paper towel so tight.

9.

Continue to repeat Steps #4-8 until you have completely wrapped all the hair, section by section, into paper towel strips.

10.

A nice extra would be to wrap your hair in cling wrap so that the curls are secure.

11.

Allow the hair to sit overnight to ensure that maximum curls are achieved.

12.

The next morning take the paper towels out of hair by either untying them and rolling out or gently ripping them.

Next, take the hair and wrap the bottom ends upward over, and around, the pa per towel strip to secure the strand’s end.

13.

Separate the larger curls carefully with your fingers so that you do not create frizz and also you can twist more and set the curl to suit your style.

Then continue to roll the rest of the strand upwards toward the head.

14.

Then if your curls are to tight, spray a bit of water to soften and loosen the curls.

1.

Begin by tearing paper towels sections into 4 equal strips, they should be about 4 centimeters wide.

2.

Next divide your hair from the top and bottom, and further divide the top and bottom into a few more sections.

3.

Then gather all parts of the bottom and clip it together with a jaw as you will be gin working with the top division

4.

Work some spray in conditioner into your hair and let it settle for a while.

5.

Take a 3cm section of hair, remember thickness also plays a role here and spritz it with water. If your hair is already damp that is fine too, but it is important that they hair is not super wet. It just needs to be a bit moist, the leave in con ditioner will help as well.

VODACOM DURBAN JULY THE CAPTAIN’S TABLE

I

n the same way that dining at ‘The Captain’s Table’ demands the best in cruise couture, dressing for the Vodacom Durban July requires a glamorous and tactful approach. Vodacom Durban July Invited Designer Showcase invitees Haroun Hansrot and Sibu Msimang help navigate this year’s fashion theme for the ladies, both on a budget and with a high-end spend. Popular Durban designer Hansrot is excited by the 2015 fashion theme. “‘The Captain’s Table’ is a great theme to dress up to, especially for Durban as we’re right by the harbour,” When it comes to looking fabulous on a budget, Hansrot recommends selecting an outfit that has two or three separate parts and not just one overall piece. “This way you can mix and match pieces and invest in one piece that you can use again at another event instead of one dress that you only wear once. If you do have the cash to splash out Hansrot’s advice is to conceptualise the whole outfit from head to toe, and not just focus on the garments. “Remember to look at yourself from top to bottom. Get a manicure, hire a makeup artist and pick some seriously glamorous but comfortable shoes.” “Being invited to dine at the Captain’s Table is a huge honour and your chance to really dress to impress,” says Hansrot.

Invited Designer and former Fashion Challenge finalist Sibu Msimang is an expert in creating and curating elegant ensembles and suggests the key for ladies looking race day ready is, “choosing an outfit that suits your body. Whatever your budget Msimang points out that accessorising is a must. “The Vodacom Durban July is a formal occasion so you need a hat and maybe even some gloves,” says Msimang. “Steer clear of clashing and ensure your bag matches your hat, which matches your shoes.” “I think we are going to see a lot of lace and maybe some stripes and red, for both men’s and ladies. And when choosing your headwear Msimang suggests making sure your hat is the correct height and shape and complements your outfit. Regardless of cost both designers overwhelmingly agree that a race day outfit should be a balanced blend of style and comfort to cater for the full day extravaganza of the Africa’s Greatest Horseracing Event.

As for the outfit inspiration from Durban Young designers we see waves of blue, an old Greek sea captain, elegant dinner looks and even the captain himself were just some of the many inspirations shining through the student’s’ unique designs. One aspiring designer chose to delve deeper into the maritime theme by constructing their garment from a ship’s structured design while another created an outfit centred around the golden champagne served at the Captain’s Table.

FA S H I O N - O N - W H E E L S - 2015 CITROEN C4 CACTUS -

The Stylish Game - Changer by Chanel Baichan

The new C4 Cactus is the most innovative and most exciting product from the Citroen Stable. It’s not only a bold statement in automotive design that breaks the conventional mould, but also a shining example of how innovation and intelligent engineering can produce a vehicle that delivers new and effective solutions. 41 | LSR june 2015

- 2015 CITROEN C4 CACTUS -

I had the most amazing time reviewing this awesome Cross-over type vehicle, so that we can give you guys the low-down on whether the C4 Cactus gets our official LSR stamp of approval. The Cactus has a very strong design appeal and was never meant to please all people all the time. The car itself won Design of the year amongst other awards and has the versatility to suit the likes of a stylish mom who would appreciate the amazing load space and leg room, or the fashion loving professional who needs the practicality of a mini-suv but without fore-saking her stylish appearance.

Airbump Technology

42 | LSR june 2015

You could equate the Cactus design to that of Ombre hair when it was first introduced - Ladies were abit pensive, but a few months down the road it was one the hottest trends ever to hit the salon. Beside the design the Cactus introduces originality in a car segment that is reknowned for being conventional and it offers us ladies what we require - useful technology, fuel efficiencies, great comfort, practicality and safety. The car itself is very simple to drive, and almost felt as if it was made with a woman’s needs in mind.

S e x y

Funky Wheels

The ‘Airbump‘ skin that you will find on the doors and around the car, was created to avoid shopping trolleys and swinging doors from denting or scratching the vehicle how’s that for innovation? So the Cactus is the size of a Ford Focus hatchback, but weighs as much as the Ford Fiesta, and therefore the little 1.2 litre engine is more than enough to zip through traffic, but if you feel you need a little more ‘Oomph’, Citroen also has the Turbo derivative available. The high ground-clearance ensures that you have no problem tackling the urban jungle and climbling curves should you feel the need to. The interior is modern and practical, the french manufacturer extended the rear-wheelbase to increase legroom for passengers sitting at the back of the car.

All the vehicles interior functions can be controlled by a 7inch touchscreen, the car features a fully adjustable multifunctional steering wheel and the ever so convenient bluetooth and USB functions. Overall the Citroen C4 Cactus is a trendsetting and modern practical car with a very attractive pricetag,.

Blackberry, raspberry, blueberry—what’s your jam? We know that this look is dominating the runway so why not give this heavier look a try

E

very female should find a colour that works for her and once you do, you would love the way this shade compliments your look this winter. With all other things, picking your berry depends on your skin tone. If you have fair skin, choose something that’s dark but sheer. Medium skin tones can get away with a richer, true berry, And those with dark skin could choose a deep color that won’t blend in with their skin and make their look to one dimensional but rather a full-bodied wine shade with rich red undertones.

PICK YOUR

BERRY Keep Lips Ripe and plumped

If you have thin lips, a dark lipstick could make them appear even smaller. So start with a lip pencil to fill out the lip ever so slightly. Your cheeks play a key role in this look, but the important bit to remember when wearing the berry lip is to keep the rest of the face fresh and glowing. Keep your foundation light and evened out. Then apply a blush in a complementary shade. Your bold lip needs a minimal eye, opt for a no eyeshadow look and rather sweep it with a statement eyeliner winged look and lush mascara. Full brows are also big, keep it neat and well shaped for an ultra modern look.

Life had changed in a blink of an eye. I became depressed & felt distanced from the world. I drew strength daily as I begin to pen my inspirations down finally understanding my purpose for my trial.” Jjo said. She also faced various challenges like, stress, depression, low self esteem etc. “I began to write about determination, courage & tenacity in life. And decided then & there that my album will be a tool to resurrect people in a dead situation. I begin to express my feelings in my lyrics to bring transformation in lives with no hope,” she added. Jjo chose Electronic Dance Music (EDM) as the genre of music for her debut Album because she believes it is unchartered waters in the local music scene in South Africa. “And I do love a “ challenge. And most importantly EDM is the today sound of our youthful generation and I really want to inspire hope through the medium of this genre.” Through the many years of leading in her church band, she has become a fascinating role model and connects with young people in a positive way. Her burst of inspiration through her wildly creative writing, hyped stage personality, coupled with funky house and electro vibes, is a winner in attracting the attention of the young generation whom she is so passionate about spreading goodwill to. Bigger dreams would be to inspire the world with her music. She wants to use it as a tool to change mindsets & mend brokenness. She has been on several major platforms in the gospel arena inspiring her fans with her lyrical flavor of music. She also performed at the Nelson Mandela Memorial Day and shared the platform with the likes of Loyiso Bala, Neville D and Israel Houghton. Her music is currently played on East Coast Radio and Highway Radio. She performs at various youth and Women empowerment events. “I want to take my music to communities that have no hope & inspire determination. People give up so easily today. They throw in the towel but my music speaks to the heart saying as long as there is still a beat in that heart you can do it.
