oloring hair too dark is a common problem. Unfortunately there is no easy solution. It can happen to us all, even the most skilled at-home colorist can get caught off guard with this. So you have use a box color to dye your hair, and the hue comes out much darker than you’d hoped, but relax you don’t have to suffer with a hue that’s not for you. Lightening a botched hair dye job is very possible. When coloring your hair at home, go only one to two levels lighter or darker than your natural hair color to avoid “extreme” moments. While most box colors includes a description of what the shade will be (such as medium-light brown), keep in mind that level one equals black and level 10 is light blond. The only true way to lighten color is to remove it. But once that unwanted color has been removed from your hair, sometimes toners have to be added to color-correct.

Colour Me Bad Sure, there are color-removing products available at the nearest beauty store, but if your too-dark color is still not looking right, heading to a professional is probably the best option or try these at home hacks. Try a clarifying shampoo: These types of cleansers are full of color-stripping surfactants. Clarifying shampoos effectively remove temporary hair color. The faster you can get to your freshly dyed hair, the better. Shampoo your hair twice, and add heat, heat helps open the cuticle of the hair shaft allowing more colour release. Deep condition afterwards. This technique is the simplest and the least damaging so this is the best place to start. Lighten with Lemon Juice, Lemon juice is known for its ability to lighten natural and artificial hair colour. The degree of effectiveness depends on the amount of heat you apply. Apply lemon juice to your hair, sit out in the sun to let it soak in and take effect. This is a natural way with the least amount of damage.

vodacom durban july the captain’s table

The Captain’s Table

Tens of thousands of punters fashionistas and celebrities alike embraced the festivities of the most prestigious horse racing event on the continent, suiting up and splashing out for the 2015 Vodacom Durban July ‘Captain’s Table’ fashion theme at Greyville Racecourse on Saturday 4 July. It is said that if you experience the Vodacom Durban July, then you have experienced Durban. As before, for the Fashion sense raceday was flocked by pre fashion shows allowing designers the opportunity to create according to the theme. A panel of fashion experts made up of Greg Wallis, Tiffany Prior, Sindi Shangase and Invited Designers Hangwani Nengovhela Terrence Bray and Craig Jacobs had the challenging task of handpicking the victorious winners of the two pre-raceday fashion competitions that formed part of the prestigious Vodacom Durban July Fashion Experience. Plenty of well-groomed looks were sprayed with fashion faux pas as race goers boasted field fashions that compassed around the nautical theme. Waves of seaside colours anchored at the race course with ensembles and intricate fascinators inspired by the ocean, captains and sunsets. Fashions of the 1920’s steered some outfits while other outfits seemed to miss the boat completely. The Gold Circle Most Striking Couple award went to Mthonzi Mthembu from M Shade Designs for his shweshwe sailor inspired matching outfits. The ecstatic designer was in disbelief over his win. “I have four entries all together in the fashion competitions and I’m dumbfounded that I won with one!” A modern Victorian look was the inspiration behind Sifiso Sabela’s winning design for Gold Circle Classic Racewear - Female competition. First prize for the Gold Circle Exceptional Raceday Hat or Fascinator went to Kireshen Chetty, a young designer who’s no stranger to Vodacom Durban July fashion challenges having won at last year’s event. Chetty explained how he translated ‘The Captain’s Table’ theme into his hat, “I took inspiration from the ballroom of the captain’s ship, using crystals and spears.”

The Captain’s Table

It is said that if you experience the Vodacom Durban July, then you have experienced Durban Durban University of Technology student Carla Gerstmeier won the Vodacom Durban July Young Designer and Fashion Challenge presented by Durban Fashion Fair when the top three were announced to a huge crowd of adoring fans at the Vodacom Durban July at Greyville Racecourse on Saturday 4 July, while the national Vodacom Durban July Fashion Challenge title went to Cailtin Shoesmith. Gerstmeier was both excited and overwhelmed by her race day win and based her design on, “the champagne served at the captain’s table, made of white champagne and black grapes, which helped me to create a bubbly yet seductive women.

”It was Shoesmith’s navy and champagne outfit that sealed her win in the national fashion competition, the Vodacom Durban July Fashion Challenge, where she won a trip to Milan. The excited winner explained how her, “design was all about the romanticism of message in a bottle and a woman waiting at the beach for her message in a bottle.” Winners took home a range of great cash and gift prizes that included holidays and cruises, smartphones, shopping vouchers and spa gifts. supplied by Gameplan Media

Spring in Fashion Apron Skirting The runways took hold of a styling technique that was first seen on and off for years. Designers from are officially giving new purpose to the skirt and having it function as an apron of some sort. From minis to pencils, when layered on top of oversize dress shirts, accordion dresses, and pants, it creates a whole new look that will surely surprise and reinvigorate Spring wardrobes.

nto n

Animal Print The Leopard, zebra print although a classic is being replaced this season and the now biggest animal trend on the runways borrows from wildlife less ordinary. We talking Chameleons and creepy crawlers from crabs and scorpions to seahorses and jelly fish which found their way onto sweet dresses. Evening owns showcased the face of seahorses and jelly fish.

Gingham There is something so pretty about gingham, the checked cotton fabric popularized by ‘50s and ‘60s style icons like Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot, who wore it in the form of cropped pants and party skirts. The statement made a Spring come back on the runway by designers who on the nostalgic idea of this sweet look. They induced elements and brought this up to modern day with beautiful colour choices. This can serve with some major street cred as well, the most popular being in black and white full gingham suits. The nice thing about gingham is that it’s so easy to wear, and can lend a bit of ladylike polish even

The High Neck Conservation dresses is not typically what designers turn to in Spring, but this is a style that is welcomed as an antidote to beautiful, sheer classic style. At some point ‘ high neckline ‘ and ‘ red carpet event ‘ wouldn’t be seen in the same sentence, but Rita Ora broke this barrier by wearing a Polo neck Prada to he Grammy’s. A handful of influential designers have included this style in their Spring/ Summer collection. The high neck is no longer a layering feature underneath our tunics and pinafores but this trend is taking center stage.

Modern Safari If clothes can be outdoor, prepare to take a wild adventure come Spring. Major designers seemed to have a hot safari in mind as they created chic khaki trench dresses, poncho coats and camo-inspired pieces that were anything but unfashionable. It’s not about about a roughed up wild look but more upscale aesthetic. Be fierce in any city by wearing urban safari clothes. The overall appearance is a pleaser which includes geometric patterns, earthy hues, tribal and animal prints adding sophistication and adventure.

Sporty Minimalism We’ve seen full-on sportswear for years, but this all rounder pared-down approach to athletic influences is just brilliant. Lace-up styling is one of the most noteworthy choices this season, but from racing stripes and wrist bands to zipper styles and drawstring pants , just a detail here and there keeps the look fresh sporty.

Statement Stripes Found on nearly every single Spring runway dating back to the early days, stripes are making a major statement, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the bigger the better. Instead, we’re seeing designers play with positioning, placement and angle. Pinup pop style stripes for Spring is a winner, pair up with big black or white famed glasses.

THE ELECTRIC REVOLUTION BMW i3

sponsored by : Supertech Durban

S

But is South Africa ready for electric cars? Based on the research conducted by Supertech on direct interaction with the public, many consider the BMW i3 to be a concept car and many view the car as being ahead of its time. There was once a time when turbocharged and diesel fueled vehicles were a novelty - all it takes is breaking the mental barrier between regarding the BMW i3 as a concept car and a vehicle that is now ready for purchase. I’ve just driven the futuristic, all electric BMW i3 - thanks to Supertech Durban and in my view, The electric drive should be an idea that no one disputes. I was really nervous prior to jumping into the drivers seat, not knowing what to expect - the thought of driving an electric car brought back memories of my first driving lesson and trying to figure out the differences between the clutch, brake and accelerator. My anxiety soon subsided as soon as I strapped myself in, The car felt utterly smooth and incredibly natural. We were now on our way to tackle the busy streets of the Durban Beachfront and Umhlanga Rocks drive.

ometime in the very near future, cars driven by electric motors will be the norm.

The i3 is a definite head turner with its unique and exciting exterior design - my favourite being the opposing doors. The interior of the i3 is nothing short of amazing, BMW took the opportunity on the i project to recreate a whole new design in regards to the interior - it feels natural and calm, but without sacrificing a quality german build. The entire car itself, being eco-friendly, is 95% recyclable. The car is marvelous to drive, getting going is delightfully easy - A rocker switch protrudes from the side of the steering column marked D-N-R with a Park button and a Stop - Start button. Should you want to drive off, press the start button, switch to D, and apply some accelerator and you will smoothly roll away. There are no gears in the BMW i3 - it is simply ‘GO’ and it’s no slouch either, with 125kw and 250nm - the electric motor can get you from a stand still to 100km/h in 7.2 seconds.

BMW have suggested that customers should consider the i3 as a second car, one that requires the owner to make a lifestyle change. After-all the car is a town-runner and not ideal for long distance travelling. There are two forms of the BMW i3 - the BEV and the REX. The BEV runs purely on electricity and as such the range is limited to around 160km. The REX supports a petrol generator, so while the vehicle runs on an electric engine, the generator assists in extending the range of the vehicle to around 250km. Upon purchase of the BMW i3 a power evaluation is done at your home to establish a minimum 220v power output (Your standard power rate at home) prior to installing the Wallbox Pure charger. Supertech have advised that a fully charged battery will cost around R25. The i3 may not be the first electric car in the market, But BMW have put in alot of innovative and creative thinking into almost all facets of the design and engineering of the vehicle and the end result is an efficient and fun city-slicker built by a manufacturer that is renowned for its high-end German quality.

GROW YOUR HAIR

NATURALLY O

f all the many hair problems that we complain about today, the most common one seems to be hair fall and problems about hair re-growth. Many complain that their hair has somehow stopped growing. There can be a lot of reasons associated with slow or no hair growth. These include pollution, unhygienic lifestyles, bad eating habits and even lack of physical activity. Discovering how to make your hair grow fast and healthy can be difficult, especially if you are head strong on going the natural way. Learning how to help your hair grow naturally is simple, you just need to know the rights methods.

Trimming every 6-8 weeks While it might seem weird to trim your hair while you are growing it out, you want to cut the dead ends off. In fact, it’s essential when you’re learning how to make your hair grow faster. Yes sure hair does grow from your roots and trimming your split ends isn’t a way to make your hair grow literally speaking but if you don’t take care of split ends it could result in breakage and unhealthy hair, and you certainly don’t want that when you’re trying to grow your hair. Trimming 1/4th of an inch of your hair every 6-8 weeks is great for you remember you want your hair to be long and healthy, not just long!

Hot oil hair massage If you have a big child or a better half, why not let them give you a hot oil scalp massage? This is one of the coolest tips for making your hair grow faster.Itt really works! Just heat up oil, jajoba, coconut oils are great for stimulating healthy hair growth ,rub it into your scalp, wait a little while, and you’ll see the difference – you hair will feel thicker, softer, and longer!

Brush your hair with love and care

I’m not saying over brush your hair though at every chance. Brushing the hair once or twice in the morning and once or twice at night will stimulate the circulation in your scalp, feeding the hair follicles and ensuring undisturbed hair growth. A helpful tool is never to brush wet, hair. That causes severe breakage, which ultimately foils hair growth.

Potato juice for hair growth To apply the potato juice on the hair for enhanced hair growth and thickness you need to gently massage it on the scalp. Use the rest of the juice on the hair strands. This should be covered with a shower cap. Leave this liquid on the hair for about 20-25 minutes before rinsing off with water. This should be followed once a week for visible outcomes on hair growth. You will enjoy accelerated hair growth and shine. Just adhere to this home remedy in your routine and you won’t regret making this decision! Potato for hair growth will give you hair that will surely make many envy you.

Leave your conditioner on for 15 minutes in a steam room. Never should you apply hair conditioner to your scalp! Shampooing your scalp is essential, of course, but conditioner tends to create flyaways and makes hair look frizzy and messy. And as you know, long, healthy #hairstarts with a healthy scalp. To do it right, put your hair in a ponytail and apply the product from the hair elastic down. Whenever possible, leave your conditioner on for 15 minutes and sit in a steam room. The heat in the steam will help the conditioner penetrate deeper into the hair and will ensure the best absorption of nutrients by your hair. There is an easier alternative, wash your hair, put on conditioner, and wrap your head with a hot towel.
