All bulls have undergone a complete semen and reproductive examination. They sell as guaranteed breeders. In accordance with the CAA breeders guarantee. Freight on the replacement bull is the responsibility of the buyer. All bulls returned to Bone Creek Ranch for credit must be in good condition. We recommend the buyer consider buying insurance on their purchase. All warranty and responsibility is limited to replacement of the bull in question and is acknowledged by the buyer as a condition of sale and in no way warrants loss of calf crops. Physical injuries and mis-management are the sole responsibility of the buyer. ALL BULLS RETURNING TO BONE CREEK RANCH for care after the sale must be insured. All breeding guarantees fall under the rules and regulations as outlined in the Canadian Angus Association.

Welcome to our Ranch... On behalf of the whole family, a huge welcome to all the buyers, bidders and friends to our 32nd annual sale. Selling bulls is about building friendships with people first and trading breeding stock second. This really hit home the middle of January when a good friend suddenly passed away. We would have never had the opportunity to know such a good friend (Dave W.) if it wasn’t for our bull sale. Thank you to all the friendships we have been blessed to make over the last 32 years and the new ones to make in the future. Bull sales are really about people! The Journey I look back at old catalogues and analyze the offerings. Our goal has never changed. Select maternal cattle and select performance within that group. Our goal has always been focusing on maternal, moderate framed, easy doing females that do it on their own. Every time our cows go through the sorting corrals we are culling. It’s simple actually; cull the opens, uglys, structurally incorrect, bad attitudes and you end up with useable cows. This process is ongoing, do we ever get the cow herd to be where we want it (NO). It’s ongoing! Are we making progress –(YES). Rest assured, our cow herd does it on their own and pays the bills. We started range calving our heifers 5 years ago in two ½ section fields. They are checked during the day, no night checks unless the weather is such we absolutely have to. You certainly appreciate good mothers and selection of the right bulls. We end up with more live calves and heifers that learn to be good momma cows. Heifers with no calves are CULLED. We live in tough winter country notorious for spring storms and I think this has made our cow herd what it is today. The Offering The best group of bulls offered to date! Our ranch is in dire need of more, younger bulls, so we have again offered virtually all the bulls for sale. They will be paired in groups of 2 or 3 hd. We will be offering choice of your pick out of each group with the other bull staying here for our cows. The groups will be no larger than 3 hd. There will be 3 TV’s playing during the sale each showing a different lot. For example, the lead off lot of blacks is 1A, 1B, 1C. High bidder gets choice of any 2 of the 3 lots with the remaining lot staying home. The paired lots are easy to recognize as A, B, C, etc. There will be a sale order posted before the sale with the choice lots. We will be retaining 15-20 head of bulls. This way all the lots are being offered for sale, continuing with our motto of offering all the front-end bulls. There is also a base price listed on each lot reflecting fair value. My suggestion to everyone is go through the bulls scrutinizing them closely. This method allows people to select more than one lot and know the price. There are outstanding individuals in each breed, cows or heifers. I know its cliché but this year’s bulls are outstanding. THE CREW: Joni our middle daughter, has her own cow herd & ranch and is in the key spoke of the wheel around here. She knows the cows like the back of her hand. Her partner Randy Entz is an integrant part of the ranch. His love is trucking and not cleaning bulls, right! Cally, Jason, Aiden and Mason are always willing helpers. Russel & Renee Kast run the Maple Creek Feedlot and are more than capable. Russel makes the day-to-day decisions as he’s more than qualified. We couldn’t be happier. Thanks Russel & Renee! Garret Harrigan is now in his second year and we are very grateful to have him on board. He is a cow man, welder, and helps with everything, (even cleans bulls LOL) THANKS. ON BEHALF OF TRISH & I WE CAN’T OPERATE WITHOUT YOU GUYS THANK YOU. T The Market & Agriculture Wow, you can’t continue to slaughter cows without running short of numbers. (Here we are, cow numbers way down) Hang in there, we are at all-time highs; I believe this cycle should last longer than previous cycles because the age demographics of ranchers is deteriorating dramatically. I realize we have had some challenges – drought – I don’t believe in global warming. We’ve had droughts in the 30’s, 60’s, 80’s & early 2000’s – not to mention ice age. Droughts are cyclical and will turn around. I am determined to focus on what I can control and market outlooks. Personally, we sold 925 wt. strs in June 2022 - $1.71, June 2023 for $2.50 and now at time of writing it looks like June 2024 at $3.10 (WOW). CONGRATS & HATS OFF TO ALL CATTLE PRODUCERS STILL STANDING – HANG IN THERE
Do Good Bulls Pay? I would like to dispel the myth that better bulls cost more- in actual fact they are a good investment. We decided to buy light (younger) 400 lb str calves last fall to sell 650 – 700 lb grassers this spring. It has never hit home as hard as it did last fall. Top quality front end 400 lb strs calves were trading from $4.75 - $5.20/lb. The second cut calves were from 30 – 50 cents off the front-end calves. You do the math if a bull sires 25 calves the difference in income is dramatic. 25 x 400 lbs x 40 cents = $4000 in one calf crop. Granted more money doesn’t always buy you a better bull but generally speaking as price goes up so does quality. DON’T SELL YOUR COWS SHORT AS IT DRAMATICALLY AFFECTS YOUR BOTTOM LINE. FOOD FOR THOUGHT. Why no EPD’s on the Bone Creek Bulls Unlike a lot of seedstock producers who derive virtually all their income from sale of bulls, we don’t. We raise bulls because we have a large bull battery to maintain and our focus is to raise most of our own bulls. Unlike most producers who maintain a large portion of their male crop as bulls and test them against each other. We start out with about 300 bulls and cull them rigorously throughout their lives to end up with about 100 head give or take. To generate better numbers, we could compare all the males, but why test keeper bulls against individuals that are not worthy to become bulls. Yes, it would generate off the wall numbers that mean nothing. Instead, we just constantly cull – BRANDING, WEANING, TWICE DURING FIRST WINTER, TWICE MORE BEFOR SALE TIME. We select for confirmation, body type and structural correctness. Every bull is selected as if he can make a positive contribution to our herd. Then and only then do we send in DNA to find out his sire. This way no individual gets a free ride because of his sire. Rest assured when we buy herd sires to put into our herd, we scrutinize EPD’s extensively. We are doing to leg work to improve our seedstock. Numbers are useful but only if obtained by non-bias decisions. Ex: DNA - LAST NOT FIRST. Looking forward LET’S FOCUS on what we can control. We all do what we can to get through – it is & will be worth it in the end. We all live and breathe cattle or we wouldn’t have them. Our biggest stumbling block looming in the future is the present leadership in OTTAWA. Cattle and agriculture will save the planet, 70% of the world can’t be farmed. Cattle eat the grass (produce high quality protein) and in turn the grass grows through photosynthesis and cleans the air. I love this business, agriculture and where I live, but need a change in the coach of this great country. MAKE CANADA GREAT AGAIN! Sincerely,

How it works: you and I will discuss your needs and goals and jointly select individuals that will meet your expectation’s. We discuss price levels and parameters in which you want to participate and try to fill the order. You don’t pay until delivered and 100% satisfied. If you are not happy, the bulls will come home and we will use them ourselves. There are no bulls in the sale that I personally would not use in our herd. Our moto is, if they can’t make a positive contribution on our own cows then they are not good enough to sell. Think about it. We don’t know anymore about the cattle business then you do, but we know these bulls. I purchased seedstock as well as raise them. When I entertain buying bulls, I ALWAYS ASK FOR INPUT. I tell them what I want, won’t accept, and get them to make a short list. It works. The purchases I make with input generally turn out better. FOOD FOR THOUGHT, TRY IT – YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED. NEW FOR 2024 Due to drought conditions last summer, we made the management decision to dry lot the bulls in a 10-acre hillside pen. They were fed a TMR ration of silage, supplement, and chopped perennial wheat grass straw. The bulls kept growing and turned out well. We also ran each bull up on a tipping table to make sure their feet were sound. Some bulls had soft pads under their feet which were removed. Any problem bulls were culled. The bulls’ feet are in excellent condition and carry our unconditional guarantee of soundness. Buy with confidence!

Bone Creek Ranch Angus Herd Health Bone Creek Angus has a long history of well-established herd health protocols to ensure their animals have a healthy a start. We are proud to assist such progressive members of the cattle industry with their preventive medical and animal care protocols. These bulls come from a cow herd with a strong focus on prevention vaccination strategies against the common pathogens we see in Canadian cattle. This herd has a solid program in place for prevention of diseases such as IBR and BVD. As both a veterinarian and producer, I consider this the cornerstone of any herd health program. The bulls themselves have been vaccinated with combination viral and bacterial vaccines (Bovishield Gold One shot/Ultrabac 7 somnugen) at branding and weaning as calves. As yearlings they are given Bovishield 5 and Tasvax. Then as long yearlings prior to sale, they are boosted with Bovishield FP5 for added insurance against IBR, BVD, PI3 and BRSV. Please refer to the vaccine protocols provided by the ranch for more details on product use and timing. It is our opinion that Bone Creek Ranch Angus is a progressive representative of the cattle industry. They continually produce top quality seed stock through advanced genetic selection along with good management and preventive practices. We encourage all producers to follow suit and adopt solid herd health and management programs in their own operations to put forth the best cattle possible for our consumers.
