Welcome to Simmsational 2024 at Johnstone Auction Mart, Moose Jaw, SK on Thursday, December 12th, the 47th edition of this great and long running event. The livestock industry is on fire right now, both purebred and commercial industries. It’s great to see the optimism back in the commercial sector once again as we’re seeing record high prices in 2024 for cull cows, cull bulls and record setting calf prices. One of our good bull customers just sold their entire steer calf crop in mid-October and averaged over $2700 per head in their pocket, selling every calf biggest to smallest. That’s great to hear. Cow prices hit all time records this summer as cull cows were bringing over $2.20 a pound and hearing stories of cull bulls bringing between $5,000-$6,000. I truly believe these prices are going to remain strong with the declining number of cattle in both Canada and USA.

We are offering 10 bred heifers in this year’s sale. We have dug extremely deep in our selection of our bred heifers as we picked out of 90 heifers. This might be the strongest and most consistent group we have ever offered. The offering is led by five excellent Fleckvieh Fullblood heifers of which three are polled. These dark red and goggle eyed girls are led by two outstanding polled Adonis 96Z (Stuey) daughters. The two cherry blood red Mountain View heifers are right at the top end of our red breds and the three black and black baldy heifers are the best we’ve ever offered. They’re worth the trip to see. They’re all bred in April and all have had their first shot of Scour Guard. We did something a little different this spring as we cedered our replacement heifers and bred on two different dates, we continued to A.I. till end of April then turned out heifer bulls on May 2nd for 30 days, headed by the homozygous polled, $70,000 fullblood bull Kuntz North Star 15L. The reds were exposed to OBB Loyalty, a LFE Loyalty son we purchased from the Oberle’s, and we exposed our black heifers to a great purebred Angus bull with calving ease numbers from the great Brooking Angus program. They were all pregnancy tested early, and the 10 sale heifers are all confirmed bred to their AI dates.

Come join us at Johnstone Auction Mart on Thursday, December 12th for the 47th edition of Simmsational. We would also like to welcome again some new consignors to the sale, good young progressive breeders with some really good cattle.

From all of us at LaBatte Simmentals, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, filled with good health, prosperity and happiness and good Simmentals.

Polled Fleck Fullblood.

These two Southseven Mr Adonis 96Z polled Fleck heifers are truly Sale Features! The Adonis 96Z (Stuey) bull is possibly the best Fullblood Fleckvieh bull to ever walk on Canadian soil in my estimation. He’s raised top bulls and super females with great udders, capacity and longevity. This 93L heifer is a tank! So deep and broody, been a standout since birth, one of our all-time favourite heifers. Her mother raised a really good polled bull in our 2023 Bull Sale selling for $21,000 to Antrim Simmentals in Manitoba. She knows how to produce the good ones! As a bonus 93L is bred early to the $70,000 homozygous polled Kuntz North Star 15L bull, ourselves and Bohrson Marketing purchased out of the Kuntz Bull Sale this spring. We felt this is the fullblood calving ease bull the industry has been looking for. He’s dark, dark red, very smooth made with hair and style. Really looking forward to these calves. There’s a ton of future in this Ms Adonis 93L female, her first calf could pay for herself.

This heifer like Lot 1 is also deep, soggy and attractive. Again, another that’s been one of our favourites since a young calf. This heifer has loads of potential and again bred early to the homozygous polled calving ease bull Kuntz North Star 15L. She’s the front pasture type!

Fleck Fullblood . A cherry blood red, goggle eyed Elevation daughter that’s definitely the right kind. She’s deep, broody, and has style to burn. These Elevation daughters make great momma cows, are good uddered, easy keeping and know how to raise the good ones. She has a maternal polled brother in the bull pen that will be noticed at our 45th Annual Bull Sale next spring. With her mating to North Star her polled calf will be exciting whether a bull or heifer

She has a maternal heifer in our keeper heifer pen this year, a really good Barbarian female. 5 IPU 20J Ms. Battle Cry 3L

Fleck Fullblood . If you’re looking for a heifer that’s going to make a cow –here she is. This moderate framed, soggy, easy fleshing heifer, has mother cow written all over her. She’s deep, angular, big goggles and super quiet and setting up a really nice udder. These Battle Cry females are really working and he himself remains very popular. Bred to KSL Honky Tonk, who we had calves off this spring, and they look good, all are polled as he’s homozygous polled and all born unassisted.

6IPU 66J Ms Mountain View 181L

Red Homo Polled Purebred. In our red sector this year we have two outstanding Mountain View daughters. We’re really happy with the progression of the Mountain View progeny. We’ve never used a red bull that stamps the dark red colour like him and the quality is there too. His bull calves were some of the highlight bulls in this spring Bulls Sales and now we’ve seen the quality of the bred heifers this fall. The mother of this heifer is a top three year old going back to the Red Liner 151D cow family. There is a lot of opportunity in this heifer, a brood cow in the making, setting up a great udder and bred to the one and only WLB Top Tier.

Red Homo Polled Purebred. Another highlight Mountain View heifer, this time out of the Desi 9154W cow family. You can’t make them much darker than 77L. Again broody, deep, nice uddered and very nice through that front end. We have a full sister by pedigree at home that is just exactly like 77L. These Mountain View heifers are going to get more popular as time goes on, as they are brood cows and again bred early to WLB Top Tier.

This RWR Chisel 41J daughter is as thick, deep and soggy as you can make one and as a bonus a baldy. Setting up a beautiful udder and her IPU Bentley 81F mother is a top cow too at our place. Her sire is a black baldy bull we purchased at the Tyler’s that was our pick of the black bulls in their sale. He’s a bull we should be using a lot more of, 15L is bred early to the CMS Sochi bull that R Plus Simmentals used so successfully in these programs as a calving ease bull but still a producer. He sired the high selling bull (Estevan) in their famous dispersal sale. Sochi is an exclusive sire that you’ll only find heifers bred to at LaBatte Simmentals and Circle 7 Simmentals. You’ll drive a lot of miles to find a black baldy heifer better than this one. Homo tests pending and will be available soon.

Ms Black Cinch is personally one of my favorites – so thick, deep and broody, setting up a beautiful udder as well. She’s the kind that will produce herd sires and look after herself as well.

This was to be our feature heifer this spring at our Bull & Female Sale in Moose Jaw but a small issue led to not taking her to the sale. She’s been a rock star from day 1, always a favourite by visitors right from a calf. She indexed 3/28 last year at weaning time and has continued to impress. She has lots of size, performance and capacity, the type that will be a bull producer as well as outstanding female.

We’d also like to thank the Transcon crew for their hard work and professionalism. We breed 100% Fleckvieh and Fullblood Simmental with a focus on producing performance driven, polled cattle. This year we have 7 heifers on offer, 2 horned and 5 polled. They come right from the top of the heifer pen. Many are bred to Anchor D Fabulous 245H who is a dark red, polled Radioactive son who’s first set of calves sold very well. We’ve also added a new heifer bull to our program, Double G Lottery 61L, who is homo polled and dilution free.

Don’t

Layla is smooth polled and an absolute pet. When you walk in the heifer pen, she’ll always be the first to say hello and ask for a head scratch. What a complete package you get here. She’s easy doing, deep bodied with excellent hair and pigmentation. She’s the first calf to sell out of her dam, “Heidi”, who is a powerful polled Ultra daughter. We’ve used alot of Rugged R Bellagio and have always been impressed with his calves. Layla is bred to Anchor D Fabulous which will be an exciting calf. His first calves to sell averaged $9200. This could be an excellent return on your investment with a chance at a homo-polled calf.

She’s fantastic and powerful heifer with excellent color and homo-polled as the cherry on top. Her dam’s previous calf sold to Northern Light Simmentals and a full sister to “Leia” raised our high selling bull last year, Kindred Spirit Legend 11L, who sold to Short Grass Farms for $17,500. “Leia’s” calf will be very genetically similar to “Legend” as they also share the same sire. This will be a fantastic purchase and we are excited for her future owners.

Lois is a deep bodied, powerful, smooth polled heifer with some extra rib. She has excellent colour and a great coat of hair. She comes from a top end cow that we purchased a while back, who always raises a good one. Sisters to Lois have gone on to work for breeders like Mackenzie Skeels, Cold Creek and Westgold Farms. She’s sired by the great Helios bull who we sold to Amuck Simmentals. Lois is the kind of heifer you know will raise herd bulls. Bred to Anchor D Fabulous for a calf that could put money right back in your pocket.

“Libby” is our youngest heifer on offer, but has done well for herself despite her age. She has tons of hair and great color on a stout frame, making her an excellent package to be a solid producer. Another example of how Glasgow puts his stamp on his calves and makes broody females. A full sister and very similiar heifer sold well to Cold Creek a few years ago. A little bit of interesting breeding going back to Ezana who’s calves have always been high sellers and have gone on to work in many top breeding programs like Anchor D, Black Gold, LaBatte, Bonchuk, Northern Light and many others. This should be a fantastic matchup and we’re very excited to see what Libby does for her new owners.

Her dam is from a flush between, Rugged R Bellagio and Kindred Spirit Helga, who’s cow family goes back to our foundation cow. There is lots of pigment in “Lulu’s” pedigree going back to Bellagio and Fairview Philosophy. This females pedigree truly speaks for itself, we have wanted an onyx daughter for so long, when the opportunity happened to acquire Onyx x Captain Morgan embryos we jumped and 310L is a beautiful outcome of that. Not very often does this cross throw a red one but we got lucky. This heifer very quickly earned favorite status around here; she screams power but still with an elegant look to her and is one we never thought would leave the farm. BLF Onyx is going to turn into a fantastic cow and will help advance anyone’s herd, our loss is your gain!

BLF 310Lwas pasture exposed to Boss Lake Night Hawk 904G from April 11th 2024 to June 1st 2024, confirmed pregnant 6 months on October 22nd 2024.

With our small herd of 30 cows we only had 4 heifer calves this year, due to this I swore I was not selling any heifers calves but we wanted to bring one from the very top of our keeper pen so here we are. 403M is a very powerful Bankroll 804F daughter and one we think very highly of. Her dam is a cow that never misses, every year we get very consistent quality calves and she’s done it again with this black baldy. 403M’s sire, DBD Bankroll 804F is a huge powerhouse bull that produces reliable daughters with great maternal instincts; don’t miss your chance to purchase an 804F daughter.

Scherger Ranching

Welcome to the 47th Edition of Simmsational. We are proud to say our family has been a part of this event for a large number of those high profile sales over the years with a great group of consignors. In more recent years, we have selected two females to represent our breeding program, and the two we will feature this year may be the most exciting to date. Strong, productive cow families built around longevity and structural soundness are what we are most proud of. These two heifer calves will both be ones to build around in the future.

Feel free to contact us for further information on our offering, and we look forward to seeing you on December 12th.

Lot 51

Here is something pretty special! This will be one of the very first daughters available off of the RF BOOMER bull that was the high seller from Rancier’s in 2023. He has left a tremendous set of calves that exhibit unmatched depth of body, spring of rib, overall mass and sound structure. This heifer has been a standout from a very young age, and it was a debate all summer whether we could offer her for sale. Out of two black parents, and stemming from one of our very best cow families. A maternal brother to this heifer was our high selling bull last year, and both the dam and grand dam to this heifer are two of our most consistent producing cows. We have never offered for sale a female from this family, and both the quality and unique pedigree this heifer offers is a tremendous opportunity. If you are serious about adding a female that will be one to build around, look no further!

A female that was a standout all summer, out of a first calf heifer that was a feature bred last fall from Erixon’s at the Border City sale. This heifer patterns very similar to her dam with a beautiful head and front third, tons of depth and capacity, along with lots of eye appeal. Her dam has developed into an excellent female to this point, with a picture perfect udder. Look for this angular, broody heifer to develop into an impres

sive bred and even better cow down the road. She is Homo Polled by parentage and Hetero Black, with a pedigree featuring a few of the most consistent bulls in the

Look for this heifer to make a big impact on your program.

This is our first year selling heifers in the Simmsational Sale and I am excited to be joining a great group of consigners that some I have known for years and some I’ll be meeting for the first time.

We have got to know the Transcon team with this coming year being our eighth year selling at the Advantage Sale in Saskatoon. I am also excited for the invitation to sell in this great sale.

I am bringing heifers off the top of our pen and look forward to your appraisal.

Thank You!

A combination of Motown and Standout is a great mix as this heifer calf has been a Standout since day one. Her dam, MLCC 18E is a flawless cow that brings home top of the pen calves year in and year out. Motown has had good bulls and heifers in the pen and have marked him as a proven bull. I hope to get more semen on him.

Welcome to the 47th Annual Simmsational Sale!

This will be our first time consigning to this sale, and we are very excited to offer a great set of females this year!

Lot 55

55 Spring Creek Kallie 20M

4H

Spring Creek 20M is off a beautiful black blazed face first time calver. She did a great job raising this calf! She was new to the farm last fall and fits right in. I really try to focus on great udders and feet and she has both going for her. Her sire is a fancy full blood with great numbers.

Spring Creek 22M is from heifer we bought last year at this sale from the great folks at Triangle 33 Simmentals. It is hard to see this one leave the farm, she has caught my eye from day one with her sound personality and feminine looks! She’s a sweetheart.

S and S Simmentals run a small herd of 40 cows a hour and a half north of Yorkton. We haven’t been selling in consignment sales for quite a few years but feel we need to start selling some good females again. Our land base and pasture available li mit the numbers we can carry. And with a deep heifer pen this year again we’ll bring a couple from the top of the pen.

57 Gidsco Kiri

A really good War Paint female out of a cow that always puts a bit of extra shape and thickness in her calves. You will have to see her in person to appreciate her capacity and thickness. Picture really doesn’t do her justice. IMO could be a start of a good cow family.

Another good baldy heifer that puts it all together. Lots of capacity while still staying very feminine. Excellent udders go back a long way in this pedigree. Another good heifer to build a cow family around.
