PERSISTENCE “ I j u s t s p o k e w i t h t h e m a n a g e r, a n d h e s a y s t h a t yo u g u y s n e e d t o g e t b a c k a s s o o n a s p o s s i b l e t o g e t yo u r t h i n g s o u t o f t h e c a s i t a . O r I c a n p i c k u p yo u r b a g s f o r yo u , ” - W h a t s A p p f l a s h e s a m e s s a g e f r o m M i k e. “ N o w ? ” - B o b by i s a s s u r p r i s e d a s I a m . 1 0 minutes ago Mike assured us we had no time restraints whatsoever and suggested we go to get lunch before checking out from the AirBnB. “He says we need to get it before 3:30”, - my e ye s a r e g l u e d t o t h e s c r e e n a s m i k e i s t y p i n g updates. B o b by g l a n c e s a t h i s w a t c h . “ We s t i l l h av e 1 . 5 h o u r s . We a r e g o o d ” . . . … Another buzz from the phone lets me know t h a t t h e r e i s a n o t h e r m e s s a g e f r o m M i k e. 2 0 t h in the last 10 or so? “ B o b by, w e h av e t o g o n o w. H e r e a l l y w a n t s to take our bags out of the house for whateve r r e a s o n . I t ’s a n e m e r g e n c y n o w, a c c o r d i n g t o Mike”, - these are not the words I want to be s a y i n g, b u t i t d o e s n’ t l o o k l i k e t h e r e i s m u c h choice left. … A road to the hotel is scenic and simply beautiful. Looks so different with the sun out. The g r e e n s a r e g l o w i n g. “ I a m s o g l a d L o s A l t o s D e E r o s h a d av a i l a b i l i t y ! I l ov e t h e p l a c e ” , - m y m i n d i s r u s h i n g through memories of the first few days. A smile s e t t l e s i n o n m y f a c e. i t ’s a l o t e a s i e r t o f e e l h a p py w i t h t h e p a i n a l m o s t g o n e. T h e e x c i t e m e n t o f h a n g i n g o u t w i t h Ju l i a a n d A n d r e i s i n c r e a s i n g by t h e s e c o n d . I l ov e t h o s e d i n n e r c o nv e r s a t i o n s . T h e r e i s s o m e t h i n g v e r y special about that small boutique hotel. It feels l i k e … h o m e, b u t b e t t e r. And the view! My mind drifts away to the memory of the first sunset in Costa Rica.
