EDI TO RIAL No, no quiero que se acaben las vacaciones. Bueno, quién realmente quiere. En fin. Volver a la realidad, volver a los compromisos, al trabajo, a la universidad o simplemente a la rutina, es difícil para cualquiera. Unos se acostumbran más rápido que otros y a nosotros nos cuesta mucho más. La mayoría tenemos esas ganas locas de extender el periodo estival, la playita, el campo, el sol, el carrete veraniego…unos más resignados, ya piensan en que llegue pronto el 2013, soy uno de ellos. ¿Si hay algo bueno? Por supuesto. Vuelven los estrenos de cine chileno, las galerías en marzo comienzan sus temporadas, aparecen los ciclos de teatro, hay agendados excelentes recitales, los grupos nacionales deciden lanzar sus discos y hay eventos notables, como la segunda edición de Lollapalooza Chile, que de seguro la romperá. Ánimo, ustedes vuelven a la ciudad y nosotros volvemos con ustedes después de dos meses paseando la revista por las playas. Volvemos con todo y para todos, con más panoramas, con más gente cool haciendo cosas en Santiago, con más datos y con las ganas de incorporar a esta comunidad Livin a la mayor cantidad posible de amigos. Tú tienes un espacio en la revista desde marzo. Búscanos.
No, I don’t want vacations to end. Well, who really wants that. Anyways. To come back to reality, duties, work, college or simply the routine, it’s hard for everyone. Some get used to it quickly and for others it is more difficult to adjust. Most of us feel like extending summer time, the beach, camping, the sun, summer parties... and others, more optimistic, hold on to the summer by planning for 2013, I’m one of them. Is there anything good? Of course. Again we have the Chilean movie premieres, the galleries are starting their season in March, we have theater events, there are also excellent concerts scheduled, the national bands decide to release their albums and there are incredible events such as the second edition of Lollapalooza, that for sure will blow your mind. Cheer up, you are coming back to the city and we are coming with you after two months of distributing the magazine on the beaches. We are coming back for you and for everyone, with more cool people doing things in Santiago, more events, more ideas, and looking forward to incorporate friends, as much as possible to this Livin community. The magazine is ready for you in March. Look for us.

SURREALISMO MÁGICO
MAGIC SURREALISM
Tras este extraordinario trabajo se encuentra Eduardo Rodríguez Rioseco, joven arquitecto de la Universidad Andrés Bello, que mezcló su profesión con la pasión por el arte. Son 12 pinturas surrealistas que ocupan la técnica del óleo para transportar, a quienes visiten la muestra, a un mundo cargado de conceptos arquitectónicos y matemáticos. En sus pinturas, la fusión de los fuertes colores, y la geometría y el universo, dan como resultado figuras humanas, escalones que llevan al cielo y planetas.
Eduardo Rodríguez is behind this magic work, a young architect from the Andrés Bello University that has mixed his profession with his passion for art. There are 12 surrealistic paintings using oil techniques which take the visitors to a world charged with mathematical and architectonical concepts. In his paintings, the fusion of strong colors, geometry and the universe, gives as a result, human shapes, and stairs to the sky and to the planets. Estoy en contra de la guerra y de la violencia. Pero esta exposición no hace agitación ni promueve alguno de los dos conceptos mencionados. ¡No! Esta es una exposición de tecnología aeroespacial y de defensa con un número considerable de expositores que representan a empresas y países de diferentes partes del mundo. La Feria Internacional del Aire y del Espacio (FIDAE), que data de 1980, muestra una serie de avances en aviación civil-comercial, mantenimiento de aeronaves, equipamiento, servicios aeroportuarios, tecnología espacial y Homeland Security. Para expertos y aficionados, como siempre ha sido.
Son franceses, específicamente de Arlés, Montpellier y Provence. Llevan años en la música. Cantan y tocan con un estilo muy particular. Pueden ser cualquiera, pero no lo son. Son los formidables de Gipsy Kings, que por primera vez, sí, por primera vez, tocarán en Chile. Son gitanos de nacimiento, con guitarras que emiten contagiosos ritmos de rumba flamenca, vienen en caravana a mostrar parte de lo que han hecho en el mundo en estos 25 años de carrera. I’m against war and violence. But this show it’s not promoting any of that. No! this is an exhibition about aerospace technology and defense with many exhibitors that are representing companies and countries from all around the world. The International Air and Space Fair (FIDAE in Spanish), that started in 1980, shows a number of advances regarding private and commercial aviation, airplane maintenance, equipment, airport services, space technology and Homeland Security. For experts and amateurs, as it always has been.
They are French, specifically from Arles, Montpellier and Provence. They’ve been into music for many years. They sing and play with a very particular style. They could be anyone, but they aren’t. They are the great Gipsy Kings, who will play in Chile for the very first time. Gypsies from birth, playing contagious rumba flamenca rhythms, they are coming to show us part of what they’ve been doing around the world for the past 25 years of their career. Esta es una juguera con muchos elementos. Pero elementos entretenidos. Así podríamos definir a Vivarium Studio, un laboratorio para la innovación y experimentación teatral, la cual incluye pintores, actores, bailarines, músicos y animales. Todo un quiebre de lo habitual de la creación y representación. El particular montaje es el siguiente. Serge es el protagonista, el cual ofrece pequeños show de efectos especiales para sus amigos, donde los clímax están en la presentación de estos instantes, en el apoyo musical y en la posterior reflexión sobre el arte. Dirigida por Philippe Quesne y ganadora del premio Obie en el Festival Under The Radar, llega a nuestro país, lamentablemente, en una cortísima temporada.

This is how we can describe Vivarium Studio, a laboratory for theatrical experimentation and innovation, which includes painters, actors, dancers, musicians and animals. Something out of the ordinary when it comes to creation and representation. This particular play consists of, Serge, who is the main character, offering small special effect shows to his friends, where the climax is the intensity, the music, and the discussion about art. Creo que con la llegada de esta golosina derivada de las materias del cacao, da lo mismo para quién está dirigido, lo importantes es que llegó a Chile y ya tiene a muchas(os) seguidoras(es) felices.

Jeremy Greenspan y Matt Didemus son especialistas en caminar sin salirse sobre la fina línea que separa la introspección de la música de baile. Pocas bandas han sintetizado tan bien lo mejor de esa música que se baila con pijama y a pata pelada y, sobre todo, pocos han conseguido dotar a este subgénero de bailoteos caseros de la emoción con que Junior Boys trabaja cada uno de sus temas. Y es a esto a lo que se han dedicado estos chicos originarios de Ontario, quienes traen a Santiago ese delirio upbeat tan aceptado hoy en la escena de máquinas. Los compañeritos de acción serán los Flight Facilities, un gancho efectivo con afán discotequero prácticamente comprobado para hacernos mover con todo en la última Pool Party del ciclo de fiestas Corona.
Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus are specialists on walking on top of the thin line that separates introspection from music for dancing. Very few bands have synthesized that well the best of that kind of music that is danced wearing pijamas and barefoot, very few have done important things on this home dance subgenre of excitement, the one that Junior Boys demonstrate in each of their songs. And this is what the boys originally from Ontario have been doing, they are the ones that are bringing to Santiago that celebrated, upbeat, in the “machine” scene. Their action partners will be Flight Facilities, an effective formula practically proven to make us move our bodies on the last Pool Party of Corona’s events.

El bueno de Michael Bublé no mata ni una mosca, pero canta bien. Podría ser el estereotipo de chico pop con voz melosa, pero es un tipo maduro de jazz con tendencias más rudas y desinhibidas, que aguanta muy bien la firma de “crooner moderno”.
The good Michael Bublé seems shy, but sings really well. He seems like the pop-boy stereotype with a mellow voice, but in reality is a mature Jazz guy, uninhibited and with rude tendencies, that carry in a good way the signature of “modern crooner”. Por / By: Pato Guzmán
El tipo se la cree y resiste. Bublé ha demostrado tanto en sus discos como en sus giras que está sobrado de talento, cercanía, carácter y un orgullo bien entendido, sobre todo entre las féminas. Quizás lo mostrado hasta ahora es todo lo que se le pueda pedir a una figura de estas características. Quizás me equivoque. Indiscutible es que intenta por todos los medios dejar claro que quiere ser dueño de su propio camino y eso se agradece. Carisma, performance, música y voz mezclado en la figura del canadiense, que tiene agendado dos fechas en Santiago y más de una fanática enloquecida. Naturally 7, la banda de beat box neoyorkino, abrirá ambos conciertos, y de paso transformará a la velada en un momento inolvidable.
The guy has high self-esteem, Bublé has shown in his albums, as in tours, that he has huge talent, charisma, personality and a pride that is understood, especially with women. Maybe what he has shown so far is all that we can ask from a person of this description. Maybe I’m wrong, but we cannot discuss that he wants to pave his own road and we thank him for that. The performance , music and voice mixed in the Canadian artist, has scheduled 2 dates in Santiago with more than just one fan going crazy for him. Naturally 7, the beat box band from New York will open both concerts, and also will turn that evening into an unforgettable event.

Van pasando los años, nos vamos haciendo viejos y es imposible no pensar en la última década sonora en Chile. Los géneros se mezclan sin complejos y se intenta dinamitar los escenarios rompiendo tabús con tremendos festivales durante todo el año. Chile tiene el privilegio de estar en el reventón y Lollapalooza es el festival que nos puso como la novedad del continente y coronó a Santiago como un epicentro de la movida musical. El año pasado se dejaron caer, entre otros, músicos de la talla de The Killers, Kanye West, Deftones, Fatboy Slim, Cypress Hill, Empire of The Sun o Jane’s Addiction, éste último liderado por Perry Farrell, creador de mítico festival. La capital se prepara para otra notable jornada que de seguro volverá loco por dos días a Santiago y que como los girasoles, giran sus doradas cabezas a la luz del Sol, a nosotros nos tendrá respirando música hasta desfallecernos de la emoción.

The genres got mixed without complexity and are intended to blow up the stages by breaking taboos with huge festivals during the whole year. Chile has the privilege of being part of this musical movement by hosting Lollapalooza, making Santiago the epicenter for these kinds of events in Latin America. Last year we had musicians such as The Killers, Kanye West, Deftones, Fatboy Slim, Cypress Hill, Empire of The Sun, and Jane’s Addiction, with the last band having frontman Perry Farrell, who is the creator of this legendary festival . The Capitol gets prepared to host another event that will for sure drive Santiago crazy and as the sunflowers spin their golden heads towards the sun, we will be breathing music until we pass out of excitement.

El cartel es una equilibrada mezcla de nuevos grupos, un par de grandes nombres, notables bandas chilenas y Foo Fighters. 60 bandas en total que animarán dos memorables jornadas este 31 de marzo y 1 de abril. Partamos por los pesos pesados. Era que no. La banda encabezada por Mr Dave Grohl, a nuestro parecer los más grandes de la lista, es un sueño que se cumple para muchos y que irrumpe en una excelente etapa de madurez de los estadounidenses. Esperados hace años en nuestro país y amados por una fanaticada que arrastra seguidores de la viudez que dejó Nirvana, vienen con un repertorio notable y un show de más de dos horas. MGMT. Otros que debutan en nuestro país, vienen con todo las odas que les entregó su álbum debut Oracular Spectacular y la ratificación de banda líder del movimiento Electro pop/Synth/ Indie que definitivamente obtuvieron en 2010 con Congratulations. Caracterizada por sus composiciones innovadoras y desafiantes, y dueña de una voz privilegiada, Björk es la cabecera del día sábado. La islandesa es un número probado, caracterizado por la expresividad vocal, la teatralidad y las letras que hablan de su mundo, uno que sólo cuenta a través de su música. Arctic Monkeys es un derroche de energía digno de imitar. Programados para el día sábado de seguro caminarán por la trayectoria Post punk revival que les ha permitido meterse en la cabeza de la gente como un shock. Rapiditos, con argumentos de sobra para estar dentro del cuarteto principal. Pero no es todo. This year the schedule has a balanced mix of new bands, a couple of well known names, great Chilean bands and Foo Fighters. 60 bands in total that will play on two memorable dates on March 31st and April 1st. Let’s start with the heavyweights. The band that has Mr. Dave Grohl as frontman, for us the most important on the list, is a dream come true for a lot of people and which has matured greatly. We’ve been waiting for them for years and they come with a huge fan base that drags followers from the emptiness that Nirvana left, they are coming with an awesome repertory of songs and a show more than 2 hours long. MGMT. Others that are debuting in our country, they’re coming with all the odes that their debut album Oracular Spectacular gave them and the ratification of leader band of the Electo pop/Synth/ Indie that they definitely gained in 2010 with Congratulations. Characterized by her innovative and defiant compositions, and owner of a privileged voice, Björk is the headliner on Saturday. The Icelandic is a tested act, characterized for her vocal expression, the melodrama and the lyrics that talk about her own world, the one that she only talks about through her own music. Arctic Monkeys is a leak of energy that everybody should imitate. They will be playing the first day and they will go through their Post Punk revival trajectory that has led them to get into people’s heads just like a shock. A quick band, with lots of arguments to be in the main four. Pay attention to this. there are bands that will be on everybody’s lips like the excellent Friendly Fires, the dubstep of Skrillex (praised by P. Farrell), the

¿Cómo nace musicalmente Mawashi? P: Por coincidencias de la vida empecé a trabajar con Bruno (como productores) y salió la idea de armar algo juntos sin depender de cantantes ni músicos. Teníamos ganas de mezclar todos nuestros conocimientos y experiencias musicales, y en 2007 nació Mawashi. ¿Cómo han visto su propia evolución con los años? P: Positiva en todo aspecto. En cuanto a manejo de softwares, producción, participación en festivales chilenos y extranjeros, y en formato Live act y Dj set. Siempre la experiencia y conocimiento será una pieza fundamental para nuestras vidas.
How was Mawashi formed musically? P: By life’s coincidence I started working with Bruno (as producers) and the idea of creating something together without depending of musicians or singers came out. We felt like mixing all our music knowledge and experiences, and in 2007 Mawashi was born. How have you seen your evolution throughout the years? P: Positive in every aspect. Regarding software’s, production, participating in Chilean and international festivals and live acts and Dj sets. Always knowledge and experience will be a fundamental piece for our lives. You have been making electronic music for some time, I have had the

Tienen un tiempo haciendo música electrónica, he tenido la posibilidad de verlos en vivo y tienen un excelente set, ¿cuáles son las claves de su trabajo? P: Buscar y escuchar mucha música nueva y antigua. Nos apasiona lo que hacemos, esa es la clave. B: Vivir haciendo lo que más te gusta no tiene precio, sabiendo que lo que creas tiene un reconocimiento debido a su calidad. ¿En qué momento de su carrera llega esta invitación al Lollapalooza 2012? P: Aunque presentíamos que nos iban a invitar, estamos muy contentos con participar en tan importante festival. Somos fans de varias bandas que tocan ese mismo día. B: Llega en el mejor momento, ya que como objetivo principal es poder internacionalizar nuestra carrea y claramente Lollapalooza es una excelente vitrina para ello. ¿Qué expectativas tienen de esta presentación? B: Muchas. Estrenar el nuevo disco que saldrá este 2012 y el nuevo live act, que estará más cargado al rock. Hay talento pero, ¿por qué cuesta tanto que los músicos chilenos salgan al extranjero y que posteriormente sean reconocidos? P: Porque estamos al fin del mundo, sale muy caro que te paguen pasajes y la industria ya no es lo mismo que hace 15 años. Ahora si lo ves como una inversión pagarte los pasajes y tienes la invitación a festivales, sirve muchísimo. B: Ahí es importante el apoyo que te dan las marcas para lograr este objetivo. Red Bull nos ayuda para presentarnos fuera de Chile y lograr cosas que sin el apoyo de la marca sería muy difícil. ¿Qué opinan de la escena electrónica nacional? P: Hay bueno y malo, como en todo orden de cosas. Admiro el trabajo de Latin Bitman, Barretso y Dj Raff, que han internacionalizado sus carreras. A su juicio, ¿existe mucha diferencia entre lo que se hace acá y lo que se está haciendo en Europa y Estados Unido?

P: Even though we had a feeling that we were going to be invited, we are very happy to participate in such an important festival. We are fans of several bands that would be playing the same day. B: It comes in the best time, because our main goal is to internationalize our career, and clearly Lollapalooza is an excellent show-window to do that. What are your expectations for this show? B: Many. To launch our latest CD that is coming out this 2012 and the new live act, that is going to be more like rock There is talent, but why is it so hard for Chilean musicians to go out to other countries and that later won’t be recognized? P: Because we are at the end of the world, it is very expensive that the industry will pay the airfare, is not the same as 15 years ago. Now if you take it as an investment to pay for your own flight tickets and you have the invitation to festivals, is very helpful. B: There is important the support that you receive from the brands to hit that objective. Red Bull helps us to get presentations outside of Chile and achieve things that without the support from the brands would be very difficult. What is your opinion about the national electronic scene? P: There is good and bad, like in every thing else. I admire the work of Latin Bitman, Barretso y Dj Raff, that have taken their careers to other countries. To your judgment, is there a big difference between what is done here from what is been done in Europe and United States?

B: Aquí son muy pocos los exponentes, por lo menos en la electrónica que me gusta, pero los que hay como Barretso o Mawashi, no tienen nada que envidiarle a nadie. Estamos en un nivel musical excelente en comparación al resto del mundo y existe un espíritu de hacer las cosas de la mejor forma posible. ¿Qué viene para ustedes después del Lollapalooza y en fin, este 2012? P: Presentar el nuevo disco en chile y en el extranjero, el cual recopila el esfuerzo de un arduo año de trabajo y búsqueda de nuevos sonidos. B: Buscar la internacionalización definitiva de nuestra carreras.

Pero el francés Laurent Baffie, pone a la locura como una tierna acción del hombre, que ofrece una lección de tolerancia y humanidad.
It’s been said that human beings have frequent “lose their mind” moments. Temporary madness? Maybe it has happened to all of us at some point in our lives, clearly to some of us in a stronger way. “T.O.C. T.O.C” es el título de este montaje, cuyas siglas son el significado de Trastorno Obsesivo Compulsivo, patología siquiátrica que pertenece al grupo de los desórdenes de ansiedad y cuya principal característica es la presencia marcada de manías en un sujeto. Y la obra camina por la vida de seis personajes que sufren de diferentes trastornos obsesivos y que entrecruzan sus vidas en la sala de espera de la consulta de un doctor. Sentados, comienzan a dialogar y a conocerse, lo que abre paso a una improvisada terapia de grupo, donde el médico nunca llegará y serán ellos mismos los que tengan que obtener sus propias conclusiones. Inteligentemente dirigida por Rosita Nicolet y actuada por consagrados como Renata Bravo, Claudio Valenzuela, Guido Vecchiola, entre otros, la obra narra los problemas a los que se enfrentan aquellos que padecen este tipo de enfermedades desde el respeto y la ternura. Si Baffie piensa que de una u otra forma todos estamos medios cu-cu, ciertamente está en lo correcto.
“T.O.C. T.O.C” is the title of this play, which stands for obsessive compulsive disorder (in spanish Trastorno Obsesivo Compulsivo), a psychiatric disease that belongs to the group of anxiety disorders and whose main characteristic is the marked presence of obsession in a person. And the play talks about the life of 6 characters that are suffering different obsessive diseases and that find each other in the doctor’s waiting room. Sitting, they start to talk and to get to know each other, which leads to an improved group therapy session as the doctor never shows up and they will have to find their own conclusions. Intelligently directed by Rosita Nicolet and played by great actors such as Renata Bravo, Claudio Valenzuela, Guido Vecchiola, among others, the play relates the problems that the people have to face that have this kind of disease from a place of respect and tenderness. If Baffie thinks that everybody is a little coo coo, clearly she is right.

Un charca inútil
La orquesta del sindicato se ha reunido para dar cuenta de un preocupante escenario: la falta de organización. Para transformar este panorama pesimista en memoria y acción deciden contar, entre cantos y bailes, la historia de quien es motivo de inspiración para el sindicato: Clotario Blest.
El montaje “Galvarino”, escrito por Marisol Vega y dirigida por Paula González Seguel, está construido gracias a los textos de “El desaparecido”, del dramaturgo Juan Radrigán, y con el testimonio de una mujer mapuche, Marisol Ancamil, en torno a su hermano Galvarino, acribillado en Rusia el año 93´ por un grupo neonazi.
Un profesor que ha sufrido una terrible agresión en la escuela no se siente capaz de volver a la enseñanza, pero luego de varios meses accede a dar clases particulares a un extraño niño. Inicia así también una curiosa relación con la madre de su nuevo alumno, una mujer que vive inmersa en el universo que ella misma ha ido creando como refugio de una realidad insoportable.

¿Cómo surge la mezcla de géneros para este espectáculo? Es una idea que tuve hace tiempo, a partir de una obra en la que colaboré en Dinamarca. Era una compañía de circo y tenía que proponer algo sobre lo grotesco. Pensé en el mundo de la copla, de la canción popular española, de Lola Flores, Martirio y María Dolores Cortés, que cuentan historias en un género más cercano al bolero. Son personajes cabareteros, de café cantante, que he tomado como referencia, pero también hay creación colectiva. ¿De ahí viene el homenaje a la mujer que propone? Somos muchas mujeres y nos referimos a un mundo de mujeres, a los camarines y espectáculos de estas

How did the idea of mixing genres for this show come up? It’s an idea that I had a long time ago, it started from a play that I collaborated in Denmark. It was a circus company and I wanted to make it more provocative. I thought of the copla world of Spanish folk music of Lola Flores, Martirio and María Dolores Cortés, that tells stories on a genre closer to the Bolero. There are cabaret characters or people that sing in coffee houses, that I have taken as references, but it is also a collective creation, formed with the influence of others in the group. Is that how the image of these women was formed? We are a group of women and we refer to these women’s world- to the backstage and copla shows. It’s a

copleras. Es un homenaje y también tiene harto de memoria, porque se relaciona con mi propia historia, con mis comienzos en el teatro, con mi papá. Hay historias nuestras que cantamos y contamos, recuerdos que marcan un trabajo más profundo sobre la experiencia personal en el escenario. Has bailado flamenco en muchos lugares del mundo, de España a Japón, ¿Cómo logras que su lenguaje se vuelva universal? No pienso en cómo se universaliza, sólo lo hago. El flamenco es muy específico, tiene mucha estructura, lo que es curioso porque viene de una mezcla de culturas. Hay que saber mucho, conocer la tradición, la guitarra, el cante, que tiene algo del lamento judío, árabe, de música de la India. Pero no me corresponde a mí defender el flamenco. He hecho mucho tablao, con vestido largo y flor en el pelo, pero también me gusta sacarlo de contexto, abrirlo, y eso es lo que logramos con el coreógrafo José Vidal, que nos ayuda a perder la rigidez con una visión más actual y libre, o con el diseño de Cristián Reyes, que nos ayuda a mostrar el teatro dentro del teatro.

You have danced flamenco in many places around the world, from Spain to Japan, How do you make it a universal language? I do not think about it, I just do it. Flamenco is very specific, it has big structure, which is very curious because it comes from a mixture of cultures. You have to know a lot about it, you have to know the tradition, the guitar, the singer, that has a bit of Jewish lament, Arabian, and music from India. But it’s not my job to defend flamenco, I have done a lot of tablao, with a long dress and a flower in my hair, but I also like to get it out of context, to open it, and that is what we are making with the choreographer José Vidal, that is helping us to loosen up with an actual view and freedom, or with the design of Cristián Reyes, which help us to show the theater inside the theater.

La Francofonía se viste de fiesta A celebration for the Francophonie
Una serie de iniciativas darán vida a la Décima versión de Fiesta de la Francofonía, que cada año encabezan diversos países y comunidades de habla francesa, quienes comparten con los ciudadanos chilenos la riqueza de su lengua, cultura y valores a través de distintas expresiones artísticas y sociales. Se estima que en el mundo la comunidad francófona es de más de 200 millones de personas.
A series of initiatives will give life to the Tenth version of the Francophonie Festival, which each year is composed by various countries and communities where French is spoken. They share their language, culture, and values with the rest of the Chilean public, through diverse artistic and social expressions. En Santiago, entre el 20 de marzo y 27 de abril en el Campus Oriente de la Universidad Católica, se expondrá la muestra Ottawa en Chile. Se trata de una exposición de arte contemporáneo de ocho artistas canadienses. Este proyecto permite mostrar la vitalidad de las artes visuales en Canadá, aportando a la reflexión en torno a las artes visuales contemporáneas. La muestra surge en el marco del intercambio entre artistas chilenos y canadienses que comenzó en 2006, cuando se presentó Piel en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Valdivia. Esta muestra contó con la participación de artistas canadienses que viajaron a Chile. En 2008, se realizó la segunda parte de esa muestra con obras de artistas chilenos en la Galería Felipe Gutiérrez de la UNAM, en Gatineau, Canadá. En 2009, Post-Data exhibió en la Galería 101 de Ottawa, Canadá, investigaciones visuales de artistas y académicos chilenos. El cine también tendrá su espacio durante esta fiesta. Entre el 26 de marzo y el 1 de abril en la Cineteca Nacional, ubicada en el Centro Cultural Palacio La Moneda, se realizará un ciclo con una selección de películas francófonas en las que participan filmografías de países como: Canadá, Francia, Marruecos, Rumania, Suiza y Vietnam. Las películas se exhibirán a las 18 horas, la adhesión será de $500 pesos y los cupos son limitados. Por otra parte, la escritora chilena, Alejandra Costamagna, hará la presentación de su libro Animaux en el Instituto Francés (Francisco Noguera 176, Providencia) el miércoles 11 de abril a las 19:00 horas. El texto es una traducción al francés de su exitoso y más reciente libro titulado Animales domésticos. Los platos típicos también tendrán cabida durante esta versión de la fiesta francófona, ya que se realizará un circuito gastronómico por restaurantes representativos de la cultura francófona en el que se ofrecerán atractivos descuentos y promociones.

It is an exhibition of contemporary art from eight Canadian artists. This project allows them to show the vitality of visual arts in Canada, contributing with a different thought around contemporary visual art. Between March 26 and April 1, at the Cineteca Nacional, located at the Centro Cultural Palacio La Moneda, a mini film fest will take place with francophone movies from various countries such as: Canada, France, Morocco, Romania, Switzerland, and Vietnam. The films will be shown at 6:00pm with a cost of $500 pesos, and the seats are limited. On the other hand, Chilean writer, Alejandra Costamagna, will have a book presentation of “Animaux” at the French Institute (Francisco Noguera 176, Providencia) on Wednesday April 11 at 7:00pm. The book is a French translation of her successful and most recent release “Animales Domesticos”. Typical dishes will also be a part of this francophone party, given that there will be a gastronomic show by restaurants from the francophone community where they will offer great discounts and promotions.

Ellas: Daniela Zomosa, Sol Diáz y Karina Cocq son las tres jóvenes que dan vida a “Señoritas salvajes”, una pasada imaginativa que invita a asumir una identidad que rompa los modelos establecidos. A través de lápiz, papel, acuarelas y pixeles en mano, muestran diversas visiones sobre las mujeres. Karina Cocq lo resume. “Es una vuelta de tuerca a las concepciones que la cultura y la sociedad establecen como correctos. Tiene que ver con salir de los estereotipos y el molde, asumir la naturaleza propia sin los preceptos que dicta la cultura, las amistades, la familia, las parejas, el trabajo, el arte, etc., confiesa. Mujeres jóvenes haciendo cosas muy cool. Yo no me la pierdo.
The girls: Daniela Zomosa, Sol Diáz y Karina Cocq are the three young women who give life to “Señoritas salvajes”, an imaginative creation that invites us to assume an identity that breaks all established models. Through a pencil, paper, watercolors, and pixels made by hand, the y show diverse visions about women. Karina Cocq says, “It’s a turnaround from the conceptions that culture and society have established. It has to do with changing stereotypes and perceptions, assuming our own nature without the perceptions given by culture, friends, family, partners, work, art, etc.” Young women accomplishing cool things. Piezas que comúnmente encontramos dentro del universo de la cocina, del bordado y de la costura, pueden ser actividades que se balancean en un imprevisible riesgo. Un paseo circunstancial, llamativamente casero, mujeril y conceptual.

Pieces that we commonly find in the kitchen, embroidery and sewing universe, these could be risky activities. A circumstantial walk, under a homemade striking, feminine concept. Sencillos elementos que encontramos en casa unido a la imaginación de Catalina, conforman una muestra interesante de conceptos expuestos de manera novedosa. Cuchillos trabajados e inscritos con palabras, que hablan de la doble lectura que se quiere entregar: un gesto violento como es un escalpelo por un lado, o una segunda asimilación reflejada en lo intangible de su significado. El bordado es otra actividad que cumple un rol en esta exposición. Mena trabaja los bastidores de manera particular, “dibujando” una escena que es transfigurada con una escritura, usando las múltiples posibilidades que el lienzo blanco le permite en su lisa extensión, para acolchonarlo, hilvanarlo, poblarlo de hilos, pero sobre todo para producir una nueva manera de escribir con alfileres. Claramente lo femenino es lo que le da el toque a la muestra. La costura también es parte del concepto, pero en particular en el pespunte y en el hilván, expresión de las labores tradicionales y las que tienen que ver netamente con el arte. Léxico doméstico es más que una exposición, es un concepto perturbadoramente femenil.
Simple elements that we find at home that are connected to Catalina’s imagination, show an interesting exposition of exposed concepts in a new way. Knives with inscriptions, that tell you of a double meaning that want to be understood: a violent symbol such as a scalpel or a second reflection of its meaning. Embroidery is another activity that has a role in this exposition. Mena works behind the scenes in a particular manner, “drawing” a scene that is transfigured with writing, using multiple possibilities that the blank canvas could permit for his work, to quilt, to put together, to thread, but above all to produce a new way of writing using pins. Clearly the feminine part is what gives it life. Sewing is also part of the concept, but in particular the hem and the connection, the expression of the traditional and artistic work. Léxico doméstico is more than just an exposition, it’s a feminine concept.

Pablo Perelman está de vuelta. Claro porque después de 20 años de ausencia de la palestra cinematográfica chilena, el creador de Imagen latente (1987) y Archipiélago(1992) vuelve con todo este 2012 con La lección de pintura, película ambientada en pleno conflicto por la reforma agraria y el golpe militar. El talentoso director nacional nos contó en qué andaba y esbozó lo que podremos ver en su nuevo film. Una resurrección esperada.
Pablo Perelman is back. Because after 20 years of being absent from the Chilean movie scene, the creator of Imagen latente (1987) and Archipiélago(1992) is coming back in 2012 with La lección de pintura, a movie acclimated on the agrarian reform and the military coup. The talented national director told us what he’s been doing and also what we’re going to see in his new film. An expected resurrection.
No sabíamos de ti públicamente, ¿en qué has estado? En nada muy distinto a lo que hacemos todos. Trabajar, buscar trabajo, inventar. Mi oficio es el cine y vivo de eso regularmente aunque con dificultad. He movido varios proyectos pero el que cuajó fue La lección de pintura. ¿Cómo enfrentas el cine después de Archipiélago? Con una preocupación creciente por la “comunicación”, ya que antes me interesaba sobre todo la “expresión”. Cuando empezaste a trabajar en La lección de pintura, ¿cómo planteaste la película en aspectos técnicos y de guión? Siempre la imaginé como una película película. Quería producir una obra que funcionara desde los formatos que la gente conoce y reconoce. ¿Cómo se dio esta combinación de trabajo entre Wood producciones, Jaleo y la productora mexicana Tequila Gang? Fue bastante virtuosa. Cada parte puso lo que mejor podía en un espíritu de mucha generosidad. Había una intención común de ampliar el universo de nuestras películas, en el sentido de hacerlas más plenamente “Iberoamericanas”. Para aspirar a un
We hadn’t heard from you in the media for a while, what have you been doing? I wasn’t doing anything too different from what everybody else does. Working, looking for a job, creating, filming is my job and that’s what I do for a living although it’s hard. I have been working on many projects but the one that took off was La lección de pintura. How do you perceive the film industry after Archipiélago? With more attention to “communication”, because before I was interested mainly in the “expression”. When did you start to work in lección de pintura, how did you set the movie regarding technical and script aspects? I always thought of it as a movie. I wanted to produce a work that could function from the format that people know and recognize. What events led to this combination of work between Wood producciones, Jaleo and the mexican production company Tequila Gang? It had a lot of spirit. Each party put the best of what they had with a very generous spirit. There was a common intention of creating a more universal feel in our movies, I am talking about

mercado más amplio que el nacional debemos producir con igual amplitud. Hay aportes técnicos y de talentos de cada parte respetando el carácter esencialmente chileno de la historia. Entre paréntesis, la parte española es más responsabilidad de Oasis (Teresa Fernández Cuesta) que de Jaleo, cuyo aporte es menor. ¿Cuéntanos acerca de la película? ¿Con qué nos encontraremos? Como dije antes, se trata de una película película. Antes que nada, es una historia sentimental y simple. ¿Qué dificultades presenta ambientar una película que transcurre en las décadas ‘60 y ’70, más encima con el conflicto de la reforma agraria y el golpe militar de trasfondo? La primera dificultad es quedar uno mismo tranquilo con el resultado. Como no puedo evitar reconocer que viví ya crecidito ese tiempo, tampoco puedo evitar enfermarme de la guata si la reproducción de época no es auténtica. Ayudó el trabajo muy profesional y creativo de la gente de arte, sin duda, entre quienes me gustaría mencionar a mi coetáneo Alejandro González, el” Mono” González, un testigo privilegiado y sensible de aquellos tiempos. ¿Qué elementos comunes tienen Imagen latente, Archipiélago y La lección de pintura? Que las protagoniza el mismo señor con distintas caras. ¿Cómo te ves hoy como cineasta después de más de 38 años de carrera? Decir que me veo a punto de estrenar mi primera obra, aunque un poco patético, es lo más honesto y rápido que puedo contestar. Cada película que he hecho ha sido tan distinta a las anteriores que me cuesta dibujar el mapa. Pero creo que de eso se trata, justamente: me sigo viendo como alguien que tiene que inventar el lenguaje de su próxima obra. ¿Qué opinas del cine chileno actual? Que está grande, musculoso, juguetón y seguro de sí mismo. ¿Qué expectativas tienes con La lección de pintura? Que la vea mucha gente, obviamente. Y que algunas personas se emocionen.

There are talents and technical support of each party regarding the Chilean essential character in the story. In parenthesis, Oasis is more responsible for the Spanish part (Teresa Fernández Cuesta) than Jaleo, from which the support was minor. Tell us something about the movie, What are we going to find? As I said before, it’s a movie. Most importantly, it’s a sentimental and simple story. What kind of difficulties did you face, trying to match what was happening in the 60’s and 70’s, while also having the agrarian reform conflict and the military coup as a background? The first difficulty is feeling comfortable with the result. I can’t deny that I lived in that era already grown, and I couldn’t stop having stomachaches if the reproduction of that era didn’t look authentic either. It helped the very professional and creative work from the people involved in the art scene, among whom I’d love to mention my contemporary Alejandro González, “el mono” González, a privileged and sensitive witness of that era. What common elements do Imagen latente, Archipiélago and La lección de pintura share? The same gentleman with different faces stars in all of them. How do you see yourself as a filmmaker after more than 38 years of your career? To say that I am about to release my first work, although it sounds pathetic, is the most honest and quickest response I can give. Every movie that I’ve made has been so different from the other that it’s hard to explain. But I think that is all about: I keep seeing myself as someone who has to reinvent the language of his next work. What do you think about the actual Chilean movie scene? That it’s getting bigger, stronger, more playful and self-confident. What are your expectations of La lección de pintura? That many people watch it, of course. And that some of them get emotional.

FESTIVAL BECAUSE GIRLS HAVE A FESTIVAL Feliz porque nuevamente seremos las reinas de nuestro propio festival. Así es, porque se viene la segunda versión del Festival de cine de mujeres (FEMCINE). Si el mundo se va a acabar, que este año tengamos la posibilidad de ver excelentes largometrajes, cortos y documentales, realizados por mujeres y con enfoques en temáticas que le atañen directamente. Mínimo, ¿no?

Las personas que tuvimos la posibilidad de ver la primera versión nos quedamos con gusto a poco. Esta segunda parte viene con todo. Además de una nutrida programación y las competencias de cortometrajes nacionales e iberoamericanos, FEMCINE incluirá seminarios, charlas y foros que buscan desarrollar e integrar reflexiones de temas de relevancia social, en este caso los de género. Desde que vi el tráiler rayé. Ingenioso, incendiario, divertido, irónico, verdaderamente inmerso en temas que, extrañamente, todavía cuesta que se discutan, o mejor dicho, derechamente se acepten. Joven & alocada no viene a poner un precedente, sino a exhibir, con calidad y acierto, una temática que se vive hace mucho en nuestra sociedad. Una película que de seguro no pasará desapercibida ni por guión, ni por actitud y tampoco, lo hará por eficacia. Cine joven, cine fresco… cine visionario, no se quede fuera.

Recently released at the Sundance Festival and winner of the Best script award at the contest, Joven & alocada talks about Daniela’s story, a young girl that has a conservative Christian family, and is looking for sexual freedom. Rebellion vs. strict Christianity, nothing left to be read between the lines. True to its style, this is one of the greatest releases for 2012.
