Welcome #LEADERS14
Welcome
James Worrall Chief Executive Officer LEADERS On behalf of the Leaders team, it gives me great pleasure to welcome so many distinguished guests from all corners of the world to the home of Chelsea FC for this exclusive gathering dedicated to the business of sport.
8th October for 100 leaders in sport followed by an after party in Roman Abromovich’s music venue ‘Under the Bridge’ from 10.00pm to late. Whilst the dinner is now full, I hope everyone is able to join us for drinks afterwards.
Over the next 2 days, world renowned figures will address over 1500 pre-screened delegates from over 45 sports and 50 countries in the presence of over 150 media organisations beaming footage all over the world. I hope it will be an unprecedented success for all in attendance.
All this would not be possible without the loyal support of our sponsors, exhibitors and delegates who are all leaders in what they do. It has been a pleasure working with them and we look forward to building a long and mutually beneficial relationship going forward. A special thanks goes to our airline sponsor Delta as well our official host venue, Chelsea FC, with whom we have extended for a further 3 years which will take us to our 10 year anniversary.
For those of you returning, you may notice that we are sporting a fresh, new image in the form of the Leaders brand identity. We’ve launched a new website, leadersinsport.com, which serves as a centralised hub for the Leaders community and a portal for exclusive video interviews with sport’s greatest leaders under our new “insights” section. Other changes you might notice include a brand new ‘meeting zone’ within the Centre of Excellence so that delegates can book specific times to meet in a quieter area, as well as a ‘Racing Lounge’ on the 2nd floor which is open to everyone and sponsored by the global horse racing community to showcase its sport. Other innovations include a revamped conference stage and a more interactive delegate experience, with the Leaders app and social media proving to be incredibly popular. One project we are very excited about is the Leaders Under 40 Awards in partnership with Aspire Academy. It’s a global search for the best talent in the business of sport climaxing in a black tie dinner held during Leaders in 2015. To mark the launch of the project, we are hosting an exclusive dinner at the BAFTA’s on Wednesday
I would also like to sincerely thank our conference speakers who have committed both their time and expertise in agreeing to discuss some of the key international challenges facing their respective organisations. And it goes without saying that I would like to thank each and every delegate here today for supporting the event. With so much going on I would strongly recommend you review the enclosed up to date conference programmes as well as this event guide to see what else is happening over the Leaders Sport Business Summit. I trust the next 2 days will enable you to learn, build relationships and do business across the world of sport and I hope, more than anything, you enjoy the experience. Best wishes,
03

Excellence
Centre of Excellence Centre of Excellence “The sheer brands that you have here, it’s pretty much a who’s who list, which are all the people we want to be talking to.” Neil Berry, Vice President EMEA, Ooyala
Welcome to the Leaders exhibition 2014 The Centre of Excellence is a sell out once again and will see 1500 senior sports executives from over 45 sports and 50 countries passing through it over the course of 2 days at the Leaders Sport Business Summit.
Centre of Excellence quickly selling out for yet another year. It could very easily double in size, however by maintaining our commitment to quality over quantity, we ensure there is a mutual benefit and relevance for everyone attending.
23 leading industry suppliers have been selected by Leaders to exhibit at the event. They represent a diverse mix of leading media, technology and commercial providers and offer some of the most innovative and ground breaking services and products.
We encourage everyone attending the conference to take the time to speak to our exhibitors and find out more about the latest innovations and services on offer to the sports industry.
The quality of delegates who attend the Sport Business Summit is cited as the main reason for the
“With a lot of very senior people attending, we felt this was the right place for us to reach our key stakeholders.” Saverio Taverna, Marketing Director, FIFA TMS

The DNA of Fans is Changing: What Does This Means For Fan Behaviour and Sponsorship Performance
Maximizing the Value of Video: Exploring Different Strategies for Clubs, Leagues and Media Owners
The real action between brands and fans used to be in conventional TV advertising but fan behaviour has changed dramatically alongside trends like globalisation, the advent of internet 2.0 and the millennial generation. It’s often been assumed that fans’ response to sponsors is led by their interest in the sport or sponsor category but interests are broadening and further segmentation yields fascinating insights that will change your view on traditional sponsorship. This workshop will explore cutting edge ideas in how brands should think about fans, why fans in different countries react differently to sponsorship, and how segmenting fans by their response to sponsorship across global markets can predict fan behaviour and sponsorship ROI. Essential knowledge for anyone keen to grow the value of their sponsorships.
TV sports rights trade for ever dizzier sums. Sports fans want to watch sport on their mobiles, tablets and smart TVs whenever and wherever they want. Meanwhile, holders of top rights packages wonder how to drive sufficient revenues to justify rights costs. Clubs, leagues and media commentators have to find ways to generate value from video without top live events rights. This workshop will begin with a case study from Arsenal FC, covering the evolution of the club’s online video strategy, followed by a Q&A with a panel of top sports online video experts discussing tactics for overcoming the strategic, operational and technical challenges posed by the new world of sports TV.

Debunking Myths Of Fan Engagement
Connecting Sports Fans to Interactive and Enriched Media
For people, passion is personal and powerful. For brands, it’s perhaps the most underutilised asset in all of marketing. And it’s only becoming more valuable. We know that people are engaging in their passions more through digital and social media. But as brands do we really understand how best to engage them? In this session we will share some in-depth research into fan behavior and dispel some of the conventional wisdoms of the industry. Octagon will lead a lively discussion offering fresh insights from Sports Yapper, the new social media player in sport. They will share how they are tapping into fans who passionately want to share opinions and commentary during the live experience. You’ll also hear from the IRB on measures they are taking to create content that connects to the heart of rugby fans as part of the build up to Rugby World Cup 2015. Ins and Outs: Increasing Efficiency and Governance in the Transfer System
This year at Leaders we are hosting an exclusive forum for Financial Directors to make new connections and learn from a unique case study of financing and investment in sport. Held over lunch in one of Chelsea FC’s top hospitality boxes, it is invitation-only for a group of 25 FDs in sport. The forum is provided in partnership with Latham & Watkins who will be providing a case study for discussion amongst the group: Taking the Team Public: A Winning Strategy Discover the winning playbook for converting fans to shareholders and accomplishments on the pitch into success in the capital markets. Lawyers from Latham & Watkins and investment bankers from Jefferies, who took Manchester United public in 2012, will discuss how to successfully execute a sports team IPO. This workshop will take you from the assembly of the best banking and legal rosters to the ringing of the bell when your stock opens trading. Panelists will highlight the legal, branding, and marketing strategies to optimally effect your IPO as well as how to avoid the potential foot faults inherent to the offering process. Any team considering capital-raising opportunities will not want to miss this.
The football transfer market grows more complex window by window as scouting networks have spread to every corner of the planet and player valuations skyrocket. There is more pressure than ever to have a system that enhances transfer market knowledge and transparency, as well as reducing the administrative load to enhance decision making and efficiency. This exclusive session will explore how the governing body of the Netherlands, KNVB, and FIFA TMS have pioneered the use of new systems to enhance governance on the domestic level, giving federations greater monitoring and control over their jurisdictions and increasing visibility over the amount of transfers and transfer fees that flow within it. It’s a unique story with many lessons that can be applied to other federations around the world. Speaker
