Free to the public! No cars on eight miles of the Colonial Parkway! Join over 1000 other cyclists of all ages and abilities as they bike the Colonial Parkway which will be closed to motorized vehicles from the Newport Avenue exit in Williamsburg to the Jamestown Information Station (one mile east of Jamestown on the Colonial Parkway) from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM, rain or shine. Only one starting location this year! Start at the Newport Avenue entrance to the Parkway in Williamsburg. A rest stop with free refreshments will be located at the College Creek pull-off near Jamestown. Call 229-0096 for additional information.

Pick one of two simultaneous starting locations, Chickahominy Riverfront Park here in Williamsburg or Rocketts Landing in downtown Richmond, for this year's Cap2Cap ride. Choose your distance (100, 50 or 25 miles) and enjoy well-designed, well-supported routes that will bring you back to your starting location. Routes will take you through the back roads of Charles City County, as well as along portions of the Virginia Capital Trail currently under construction. When completed, the Virginia Capital Trail will be a shared-use scenic, interpretive, bike-pedestrian trail that will showcase the many historic and natural amenities within the corridor.

The City of Williamsburg is promoting the use of alternative transportation on National Bike to Work Day. The City’s program is designed to encourage people working in the City of Williamsburg to ride a bike or walk to work. Many local businesses and organizations are sponsoring the event. If you can’t bike or walk, the City encourages carpooling or the use of public transportation.

FREE to the public! All children are welcome with their parents. Ride 1-12 miles on the Virginia Capital Trail with riders from the Williamsburg Area Bicyclists Club who will demonstrate safe biking skills. Meet at Jamestown High School parking lot at 2:00 PM. FREE helmets (while they last) will be distributed by the Williamsburg Area Bicyclists. Refreshments will be served after the ride. Email Stephanie Smith at stephanie@activewilliamsburg.org.

Free helmets will be available for children who par ticipate in the Bicycle Skills Rodeo at one of the pull-offs on the Colonial Parkway. Helmets will be fitted by members of the Active Williamsburg Alliance and the Williamsburg Area Bicyclists. Parking will be available in the lot at the corner of Newport Ave. and Nassau Street.

The 15 mile Family Ride ($25 per family) will be on the completed portion of the Virginia Capital Trail in James City County and runs from 8:00 AM - Noon. Start times for the other distances: Century Ride 7:30 AM, Half Century Ride 8:30 AM, Quarter Century Ride 9:00 AM. Routes close at 4:30 PM. $40 registration fee (increases begin April 15, pre-registration closes May 5) includes vehicular support service along route, rest stops and lunch. Proceeds benefit the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation. For more ride and registration information, go to www.virginiacapitaltrail.org.

To encourage biking or walking to work, Energizing Stations located throughout the City will be handing out bottled water and granola bars to all commuters between 7 AM and 9 AM. While you are there, you can register for prizes from local merchants.
