We celebrated Melbourne Cup Day with a luncheon at our club house on Langly Road Camira and many of our ladies really went to town with their lovely outfits and hats. The Best Hat was won by Lyn Pabricks and not to forget the men with Best Hat won by John Monro. With a catered lunch it was a most enjoyable morning. Our guest speaker for 5 November was the Senior Constable from Yamanto Police Department who spoke about identity theft, which was very interesting. On 12 November, we had our last bus trip for the year and what a day it was. We left Camira at 8 am, picking up our guide on the way before our first stop which was at a park for morning tea. It was then back on the bus and on to Beenleigh where our first stop was the Polly Chocolate factory with beautiful chocolates and of course everyone bought some. Next stop was the Gotzinger Deli where we had a taste of their sausages and meats. We then made our way to the OZ Clean Factory and were shown around the factory. We were most impressed that we were all given a sample bag of cleaning products. Our next stop was the VIP Pet Factory where we could purchase goods at cost price. After such a busy morning, we were pleased to stop at the Gem Hotel at Jacobs Well for a much appreciated and well earned lunch. After lunch, it was off to the Prawn Farm where we could purchase their lovely prawns. We then went around the sugar cane fields were they did the sugar cane mulch and on the way home stopped at a Strawberry Farm. I think we were feeling tired by then as it was a very busy day but thoroughly enjoyable. 19th November it was Trivia so thinking caps on again. I would like to wish all our members a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. See you all next year, Pat.

Personally Speaking with Susannah Friis

NO WIN - NO FEE

LANDMARK LAWYERS Christmas or Xmas? Personally, I really don’t like Xmas; I remember as a child seeing it used for an advertisement and thinking “Cross-mas. That doesn’t make any sense! You’re supposed to be happy not cross at Christmas.” Yes, I was a strange child...and clearly not too bright either! Now, it just annoys me because I generally dislike all abbreviations. Some people get offended, thinking this is another way for society to take the ‘Christ’ out of Christmas, in a season where the meaning is already all but obscured by consumerism. It is not, in fact, a deliberate act to withdraw meaning from the season but the X has it’s origins as an abbreviation for Christ going way back to our Greek friends in days long gone. In advertising, I tend to think it’s a matter of trying to make a longish word fit; and in handwriting, I’m sure it’s because we would all rather be lazy! Neither of which are looking to take the meaning of the word away but are instead, focused on convenience. You see, the only way for meaning to be extracted from something is if the observer or participant allows it to be taken. How the word is written should have no bearing on how we all perceive it, or, for that matter, enjoy and celebrate it. It’s easy not to focus on the real meaning of Christmas at Christmas time. It’s busy. It’s hot. The kids are home on holidays (and are quite possibly bored and exhausting!). A host of family get-togethers are organised. Food needs to be prepared. Presents need to be bought. And on it goes. Yes, it’s very easy to just let the meaning of the whole thing slide right on by without a second glance. Yet, finding a little time to contemplate the ‘reason for the season’ might just help you get through all that busyness with a smile. Acknowledging that it’s a season of peace, of love and giving can stop us in our busyness and give us pause, reminding us that there is more to life than presents, food and endless streams of family and guests. If we do take the time to think about it a little, and allow the real meaning of the baby born in a manger to sink in, we might find that it can impact more than just the Christmas season. We might find that it can make a very real difference to the coming year. It might change us so that our relationships are enriched, our lives are fuller and that longing within all of us to have purpose and meaning is finally fulfilled. Will you pause this Christmas? Will you step aside to ponder and really think about what it all means? I hope you do. And I hope you find peace, love and joy not only this Christmas season, but your whole life long.

Get involved with Cuts for a Cause in 2015

The 2015 Cuts for a Cause event under the direction of newly appointed volunteer event managers, Nerissa Lewis (pictured above, left) and Kylie McQuilty, are looking for sponsors, donors, hairdressers and community volunteers to help raise funds to help kids from struggling families back to school in 2015. Help us deliver the finest health care to the furthest corners of Australia

In late November, members of the Springfield Soroptimist group met with officers of the Child Safety Support Services at their Springfield offices to hand over Life Diary boxes that can be distributed to children in care. Every day children arrive at Child Safety offices with few personal belongings. If placed in out-of-home care they may not remember some of their life history, particularly if they experience a number of short term placements. The Life Diary consists of a secured storage box containing an acid free photo album, pencil case, writing materials, scissors, journal, activity books, scrapbook and embellishments for scrapbooking. The Life Diary enables a child to record special events and retain precious items such as certificates, photos and mementos of special occasions in the box. It also provides storage for special toys and basic clothing if they have to move house quickly. For a number of years the Soroptimist clubs of South Queensland have provided these Life Diaries to Child Safety Support Services across the south-east and are pleased that the new Springfield and Ipswich groups have accessed the project. The Springfield Soroptimist group also hosted a public forum in October on the topic of how to minimize low speed vehicle run-overs of children under five years old, particularly in shopping centre car parks and driveways. Subsequently many local families have recently benefited from the distribution of a children’s book, Hold my hand, associated road safety brochures and decals trying to educate caregivers and children about the importance of road safety. Hold my hand was written by local resident, Luise Manning. The Soroptimist group is looking for new members. If you’re interested please contact Shelley on 0419 546 013. The first meeting in 2015 is at 7pm at the Community Meeting Room, Orion shopping centre on Monday 2nd February.

A message from the Mayor’s Desk

WITH THE MAYOR - COUNCILLOR PAUL PISASALE

Celebrate Ipswich New Year’s Eve at North Ipswich Reserve. This free event is for young families and residents to celebrate the end of 2014 and ring in the New Year. The fun starts at 6pm with family entertainment, free kids rides, street theatre, special performers, food stalls, live music and much more. Entertainment includes Tim Jackman – King of the Kids who is an actor, singer and guitarist who has been entertaining families for over a decade. Also taking to the stage is Magic Carpet Ride who will take you through the past 50 years of party tunes from classic rock, to pop, 80s anthems and Aussie classics. After some entertaining tunes, settle down with your picnic blanket for a family movie screening of The Croods at 7.15pm before a Fireworks Finale Spectacular at 10pm, giving plenty of time for the tired little ones to make bedtime! There will be plenty of parking and food and drink available for purchase or alternately you can bring your own food (no alcohol). This is a family friendly New Year’s Celebration and, as such, is an alcohol free event. Make sure you check out some of the fantastic Christmas Light displays around Ipswich as part of the city-wide Christmas Lights Competition. There are some fantastic entries and they really are a spectacular sight. On behalf of all the Councillors I would like to wish all our residents a very merry Christmas. If you’re celebrating New Year’s with some family fun at North Ipswich Reserve, or hitting the town, have a safe night and best wishes for the New Year.

Amnesty extension helps Animal Welfare League Queensland Ipswich libraries will continue its search for overdue library items in December with an extension of the library amnesty now running. Library users will now have until 1pm on December 24 to return any overdue items without penalty. Residents are encouraged to hunt around the house for any overdue or misplaced items and get them back to the library before the amnesty ends. “We want people with long overdue library items to return them to any of our service points and clear their library record while making a donation to help Ipswich animals in need,” said Cr Dave Pahlke. “Not only will overdue items be returned and the fine on them waived, Ipswich’s needy animals will also receive much needed help and with a cleared library card, borrowers will be able to take out extra items, including DVDs, in the lead-up to Christmas. “All branch libraries and the mobile library will be accepting donations for AWLQ during the amnesty period,” Cr Pahlke said. The AWLQ operates a rehoming centre in Ipswich and specialises in the care, shelter, and re-homing of cats and dogs and takes care of approximately 10,000 strayed and abandoned animals annually from South-East Queensland. “Right now, the items most needed by the Animal Welfare League of Queensland include clean blankets and towels, kitty litter, kitty litter trays and pooper scoopers,” Cr Pahlke said. “AWL is also seeking donations of wet kitten food, indestructible dog toys, dog Kongs and quality tinned or dry cat and dog food. Even if you don’t have any fines, donations for the Animal Welfare League are most welcome.”

The Rotary Club of Greater Springfield and the Brookwater Golf Club have joined together in Christmas celebrations when they conducted the Rotary clubs Christmas breakup and at the same time donated gifts collected for the local Kids in Care Christmas Appeal. The Rotary Club of Greater Springfield has joined with local businesses such as the Brookwater Golf Club, Springfield Lakes Hotel and Ray White Springfield in coordinating donated gifts collected for the Christmas Appeal. The theme for this years appeal is: “They say it takes a village to raise a child, and this is particularly true for some children and young people who can’t live with their families. Be part of the village this Christmas – show you care by donating a gift to the Kids In Care Christmas Appeal.” Please show you care by donating a gift to the local kids in care by placing it under the Christmas Tree located in the foyers of the Brookwater Golf and Country Club and the Springfield Lakes Hotel before 19th December. Gifts need to be age based to the value of $25. Gift cards are preferred for kids over 13 years old. Gifts are to be unwrapped. Gifts that are donated will be presented to the kids by Santa at the Kids in Care Christmas Party at the Springfield Child Safety Service Springfield Tower headquarters on 20th December. The dedicated Springfield agency cares for foster kids in our local community and services a catchment area that includes Camira, Springfield, Redbank Plains, Bellbird Park, Goodna to Ripley servicing over 230 kids in care from infant to 18 years old. Gifts that were donated by the Rotary club, golf club members and hotel guests will make Christmas a happy time when they are presented to the kids by Santa at the Kids in Care Christmas Party at the Springfield Child Safety Service Springfield Tower headquarters prior to Christmas. The Rotary Club of Greater Springfield holds its meetings every Thursday evening at 6.30pm at the Springfield Lakes Hotel 7/1 Springfield Blvd - Springfield Lakes. For enquiries, contact Club Secretary Lachlan Clarke on 0433 801 753, or Chris Steinback on 0411 472 684 or visit us on Facebook or email us on greaterspringfieldrotary@hotmail.com. New markets for Robelle Domain

Springfield Markets has been announced as the new operator of the Robelle Domain Friday evening markets. Parks, Sport and Recreation Committee Chairperson Councillor David Morrison said the agreement with Springfield Markets was reached after a lengthy expression of interest period and a careful assessment of interested parties. “We’re very excited to work with Springfield Markets to build this popular local market into a bigger and better opportunity for people to get out and meet their neighbours while enjoying some fantastic fresh and tasty food,” Cr Morrison said. “Food markets and mobile food vendors are becoming an increasingly staple part of the life of many cities. “With an explosion of interest in healthy eating, cooking as well as a more casual street style vibe for eating out taking hold in the industry, it’s no wonder food markets are just going from strength to strength. “So on the first Friday night of each month commencing in the new year, Robelle Domain is the place to go for a great meal, some terrific groceries, handcrafts and a good time,” Cr Morrison said. “Springfield Markets have previously managed markets at Robelle Domain successfully and have the proven ability to engage with the local community to achieve a great outcome. “These markets are going to be an excellent addition to the area in the lead up to Christmas,” Cr Morrison said.

Volunteer drivers are urgently needed to transport wildlife patients. Based at the Wacol Animal Care Campus, the job would suit any applicants who are passionate about animal welfare, have a commitment to learn and are particularly interested in wildlife rehabilitation. This role of transport driver involves a lot of travel around Brisbane and the surrounding areas in an RSPCA vehicle. Duties include collecting, transporting, reuniting and releasing wildlife. You will be required to be outdoors for extended periods of time. The role is available Monday to Sunday, 8am - noon or noon - 4pm. A minimum commitment of four hours per week for a minimum of three months is required. Full orientation and training is provided, however for legal reasons, all applicants must be over 25 years old. Skills required? A willingness to learn, wildlife knowledge or training would obviously be an advantage. A clean open manual drivers licence is required. Skills to be gained? Wildlife rehabilitation experience, increased awareness of our native wildlife and the problems they face and animal handling identification skills. Benefits? Learn a new skill; enjoy the knowledge that you are making a difference in your local community. For further information, please contact the Brisbane Volunteer Coordinator on 3426 9915 or volunteering@ rspcaqld.org.au.

First book of trilogy is a dream come true For many, working full time and living one’s dreams don’t often go together but for local author, Peter Ship, writing as a hobby at night and on weekends has produced a published novel. The idea for an action adventure novel struck Ship while on holiday in London, steeped in its rich history and the close proximity to the royal family. The first in a trilogy, McNiven: The Kingdom Guardian, follows the life of McNiven a royal security chief who risks his life to save his mistress while averting an impending war. Set in 2037, McNiven provides personal security for the reigning Monarch of the United Kingdom, a position his family have fulfilled for 500 years. Following a devastating terrorist attack on London that leaves almost 400,000 people dead, Queen Penelope secretly unleashes McNiven to track down the terrorists and destroy their plans for additional attacks. The Queen becomes a target for the terrorists and is betrayed by members of her family and staff. There is non-stop action stretching from Hastings in the south to the highlands of Scotland and across the channel into Europe. Unexpected twists and events are bound together by the twin threads of romance and loyalty as McNiven hunts those responsible for the destruction and deaths that were a smokescreen for an even more sinister plot to make London the capital of Western Europe. McNiven races against time to unmask the terrorists and saves the lives of the Queen and the G8 leaders. The second book in the McNiven series, called One Hope is already well underway, with the third book still in the research stage. Ship was determined to head into impending retirement with a plan and a purpose, so began writing the novel while on holidays. “I succeeded in writing around 10,000 words with my two finger typing. After that I wrote 1000-1500 words at night instead of watching television and then for a couple of hours on weekends,” he said. “If I had a busy day at work then sometimes I wouldn’t write. The secret for me is to not place pressure on myself by committing to a fixed finishing date. It has to be a pleasure like any hobby and then I can be creative. All up it took about eighteen months.” To purchase McNiven: The Kingdom Guardian in time for Christmas, simply go to Amazon or buy direct from the website mcniventhekingdomguardian.com. Peter Ship can be contacted by sending an email to guidinglight@y7mail.com.

Christmas is just around the corner and as the weather gets warmer, there is plenty of activity in our local community. Local charities and community groups are working overtime to ensure all western corridor families are able to celebrate Christmas with their families and it is always uplifting to see the generosity of the local community. It has been great to see so many high achieving students recognised for their hard work as I visit local schools for Graduations and Awards Ceremonies. This will also be the last year for year 7 students in primary school which means year 6 and 7 students are graduating primary school together. This year I hosted a Christmas Card Design Competition for my 2014 Christmas Card and the winner was eight year old Sophia from Good News Lutheran. You will be able to see the design on the Christmas Ripoll Report which will be delivered just before Christmas. Congratulations again to Sophia, I hope you enjoy your new bike over the Christmas holidays. This year the team and I have travelled around the electorate of Oxley to talk to the residents about what is happening in their local community. It has been great to talk to local residents while enjoying a free sausage sizzle and utilising the great parks and facilities we have in the Western Corridor. Keep a look out in your letter box for an invitation to Bangers with Bernie in your local area soon. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year. If there is anything I or my office can assist you with over the next few weeks leading into Christmas, please call the office on 3879 6440. We will be closed from 22 December and will reopen on Monday 5 January 2015. The Greater Springfield Times - December 2014 - Page 15

Probus Club Update by Pat van der Beek

CAMIRA SPRINGFIELD COMMUNITY CENTRE PHONE: 3818 0921

389 OLD LOGAN ROAD, CAMIRA www.westsidecommunitycare.org.au Hall For Hire - Parties, Sports, Meetings Hi all and welcome to the monthly column of the Goodna/Springfield Probus Club. As this hot spring becomes an even hotter summer, remember to stay well hydrated (and please also remember your pets). There was no speaker for December as we held a wine and cheese function instead to celebrate another year of fun and fellowship. We have an interesting line-up of speakers for 2015 so why not consider joining us? November’s excursion was to the Tramways Museum at Ferny Grove and the picture above shows some of us ready to board one of the trams for a short ride (we rode four trams in all on the day). The excursion was a real nostalgia trip for those of us who grew up in Brisbane as trams were phased out here in 1969. The museum is open on Sundays (and for groups by appointment) and would be an inexpensive and exciting day out for young families as well as an interesting history lesson. Our Christmas party, held on 6 December was a resounding success as usual. Thanks to Bill Henderson for a wonderful evening’s entertainment and congratulations to all those who helped with the food, decorations and the setting up and dismantling of the tables etc. Many hands made light work and we were all able to enjoy the evening. We have some excellent excursions planned for 2015 starting with a bus trip (with Jindalee Probus Club) to the Robotic Dairy near Beaudesert in February. We are always open to suggestions for ‘outings with a difference’ so do feel welcome to bring your ideas along. This will be our last column until March 2015 so we would like to take this opportunity to wish all readers a safe and enjoyable Christmas break. It’s going to be a very hot Christmas this year so don’t forget your hats, sunscreen and water bottles for outside activities. All members are welcome at all activities and potential members are encouraged to contact Vic on the number below for details. There is no charge for your first meeting and you are under no obligation to join. Your first step is to ring Vic on 3271 1096 or join us at 1.30pm on the first Wednesday of each month (except January) at the Camira Friends and Neighbours Clubhouse in Bruce Lane (cnr Langley Road), Camira.

Jacaranda Community Choir celebrates end of year Greek style The Jacaranda Community Choir celebrated it’s end of year breakup at ‘The Greek’, a new Mediterranean Restaurant on Commercial Drive at Springfield. Approximately 15 people attended the luncheon where the food and service were exceptional. Members are looking forward to another year of singing and Community Theme Nights with the friendly choir which will begin meeting again in January 2015. If you would like to join in next year, members meet every Tuesday at 10am during school terms at Langley Hall, cnr of Langley Road and Bruce Lane at Camira where rehearsals take place for performances at nursing homes, over 55’s villages and community events. The main purpose for getting together is to have a sing song and some fun.

Just as we age, so do our pets, just at a much faster rate. Most people are familiar with one ‘dog year’ is equivalent to seven ‘human years’, but have you ever really thought about what this means? It means that on average your pets will be aging at seven times faster then humans. Large breed dogs age faster then small breeds and cats. That’s why most dogs only live for 10-15 years (the equivalent of a human living to 75-105 years old!). Cats will age slightly slower and so will live slightly longer. Consider the health implications that this rapid rate of ageing will have on the body of your pet. This is why we recommend ‘twice for life’ visits which simply means coming in for a health check twice a year. This would be like us visiting the doctors every three and a half years! Once your pet reaches seven years they are generally considered a ‘senior’ (large breed dogs are considered seniors when they reach five years of age). These six monthly visits then become much more important to early diagnose and possibly prevent diseases that are regularly associated with ageing such as heart disease, arthritis, cancer, dental disease, dementia, deafness, kidney problems to name a few. Very often these diseases will show few signs in the early (often treatable) stages and many people will overlook them as simply ‘signs of old age’. Remember age doesn’t cause illness, illness causes ‘old age’. Veterinarians are trained to detect the subtle early signs of disease, which can lead to early diagnosis and treatment meaning a longer and better quality of life than that pet might have had. Many older dogs and cats will start to develop the odd ‘lump’ or ‘bump’, but it is important to get these lumps checked as soon as they are noticed in case they are dangerous cancers which require removal. A veterinarian can check that by doing a fine needle aspirate, and generally let you know if the mass is cancerous or benign. Another test a vet might recommend is an annual geriatric blood test. With this blood test, we can monitor liver function, kidney function, signs of inflammation or infection, and hormonal problems to name a few. Bringing in a urine sample from your pets for their annual health check is also very important in early detection of kidney disease. So have a good look at your best mate and think – “Are you over seven years old?” “Are you a senior?” And if so “When was your last check-up?”. Remember, early detection of many of these commonly ‘old age’ diseases can allow your pet to lead a longer and healthier life.

Hello everyone. I wish you and your family a safe and holy Christmas and a prosperous 2015. It has been a busy year and the summer holidays will keep the children entertained also. The popular summer reading program is returning to Ipswich Libraries and will run until January 21 next year. Head into any library branch or jump online to sign up and collect your Summer Reading Adventure Tracker. Record your reading and attendance at library events in the tracker over the holiday period. When returned, these will become your entry into the prize draws. A range of boredom busting activities will also be available across the holidays at the three library branches and the mobile library. For details on the Ipswich Libraries’ full holiday program head online to www.library.ipswich.qld.gov.au Council is discussing design concepts with stakeholders for a community facility that includes a library at Springfield Central. Council has once again partnered with a number of community agencies and organisations to deliver the following activities. Movie Night under the Stars: January 16 at Colleges Crossing from 6.30pm. This is a free event. Further information can be found on www.ipswich.qld.gov.au. Contact the Leichhardt One Mile Community Centre on 3812 1270 for bookings for a January 2015 program which will include activities such as craft, back to school activities and indoor games. Riverview Neighbourhood House also has a January 2015 program including edible art, fun games and wet and wild water days. Bookings are essential and can be made on 33816 2111. Westside Community Care (Qld), are offering free school holiday activities during December and January. Activities will include Laser Tag, art and craft such as clay work, paper mache and tie dyeing. Activities will be held at the Camira Springfield Community Centre and Robelle Domain. Please book on 3818 021 or www.westsidecommunitycare.org.au

NATIONAL SENIORS UPDATE

Goodna/Redbank Branch by Vera

Somerwil

Welcome from the Goodna/Redbank Branch. I am sure many of you will be looking forward to the coming festive period, a good time to renew friendships and catch up with family members or just a time to get away from the day to day activities and relax. Last month the Day Trippers had an adventurous day trip to Stradbroke Island using public transport. The day may have been long but everyone enjoyed the day out. Our speaker for the November meeting was Vicki Burke from Scan Guard. There is no doubt that scammers are very clever at what they do and many people who you thought would know better are being caught. Everyone needs to be aware on how to protect themselves from being ripped off by these unscrupulous people; the older person even more so because of their trusting nature. Over forty members have registered to attend this year’s Christmas breakup luncheon at the Springfield Tavern. Last year the event was enjoyed by everyone and we expect it will be the same again this year. Members and visitors are reminded that the Club will take a summer break from the 16 December meeting until February 2015. The first activity will be the Wednesday coffee social morning, 4th February 2015 at the Coffee Club, Queen Street, Goodna. The club committee is currently busy organising its activity program for 2015. There will be a variety from entertainers and serious presentations with discussions about the benefits available for seniors in the Federal sphere and from the Department on Human Services (Centrelink). Please note the change to the starting time for meetings commencing December 2014, registration and morning tea will be at 10.00am for a 10.30am start. We apologise for this but it is not something we can control. Visitors are invited to attend our club and enjoy its activities. We meet once a month on the third Tuesday of each month. For further information please contact Val Randle on 3297 5735. The National Seniors Branch Committee would like to take this opportunity to wish all a very happy Christmas and a prosperous and healthy New Year.

THE CREATIVE heART

Creative heART encourages diversity of creative artists in the local area.

The diversity of our members make the group quite unique while at the same time, the concept of creativity is linking people from many artisan and performing arts backgrounds. Creativity is one of the fundamental drives behind our desire to share and join others during the festive season. The human’s need to be creative drives us to share the gifts of joy and love not only with those close to us, but also those who come into our lives for a reason or season. Creativity is the underlying element that drives us to learn, experiment and grow. For the Creative HeART, the creativity is both the group’s vision and its strength. “Creativity is the thought of something new, something previously unexplored. The development of an idea or concept and bringing it to life. When I create, I feel as though my mind opens up and presents me with endless possibilities. I feel alive and free,” said Lalade, a mixed medium artist. Pam Blamey, a practicing textile artist, writer and creative program developer, said, “Creativity is the possibility and the process of using all my senses to make something new that is unique to me. When I create it’s like all my experience, my yearning and my passion come together and are processed in the blender and something new results from the raw ingredients.” Porcelain and paint artist, Julie Maddocks said, “Creativity for me is part of my soul, my sanity, my joyful escape from the everyday, and without it I would need a therapist. When I create I go to my happy place, a place where I am in total control of the unexpected, the surprises, and joy.” And finally, I join with the thoughts of the Springfield’s local photographer and designer, Nick Goodridge, “For me, the creativity is taking people on a journey through my imagination. When I create, I feel peace and excitement and my mind races through possibilities.” And these possibilities are keeping the Creative HeART growing! Wishing everyone a very special, creative Christmas as the creativity is the gift we all can enjoy freely during this very special time. Then&Now

a look back at Greater Springfield with Cr David Morrison

Springfield Skate Park at Bob Gibbs Oval

This was the beginning of the Skate Park in Bob Gibbs Oval, Springfield. Cr David Morrison said the area is continually being improved, within the allotted budget, by still listening to youth in the area. Over the last few years youth have requested this area to have lights, and this was fulfilled and completed in October this year. The lights, which are turned off at 10pm, allow skaters to enjoy riding all year round and are particularly important during summer when skating can take place in the evening, away from the hot sun.

Springfield Skate Park being constructed in 2002 Springfield Councillor, Cr David Morrison remembers very clearly after he was elected in 2000, meeting with youth of Division 1. One of the requests was to develop an area mainly for teenagers. Cr David Morrison agreed that our parks generally cater very well for families and for the younger children and that there was a need to create a designated youth space. Cr Morrison committed to funding an area that would be generally for youth and met with a group of local youth over a few months who helped design an area.
