A word from our Historian

Hello!! My name is Athena Chen and I am your Los Altos Key Club historian. This month’s edition is inspired by summer and when thinking of summer, the beach comes into my mind. The color palette is based on colors you would see on the beach and the official key club colors. I also added in a bit of our key club mascot, the seal! After this issue, I will continue the member spotlight, so the other cabinet members and I will be looking out for outstanding seals, who demonstrate what a true key club member is. There will also be a special page dedicated to them :) This year there will be a new section dedicated to self care and general things related to keeping up with school since it can get tiring sometimes. I hope these newsletters are both appealing and informative :D Thank you for reading and keep a lookout for next month’s edition! Thanks, Athena Chen

What is Key Club about? Key Club members around the world learn how to lead and stand for what’s right through service and volunteerism. In partnership with their local Kiwanis club, high school students are making a positive impact as they serve others in their schools and communities.

The History of Key Club How was key club started? What do you learn from key club? The first Key Club formed in 1925 in Sacramento, California, with 11 charter members. Key Club was the idea of two Sacramento Kiwanis Club members, Albert C. Olney and Frank C. Vincent, who also were high school administrators. They approached their Kiwanis club with the idea of starting a junior service club in the high school. It would resemble Kiwanis, have its own classifications based on school interests and hold luncheon meetings.

• To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life. • To encourage the daily living of the Golden • Rule in all human relationships. • To promote the adoption and application of higher standards in scholarship, sportsmanship and social contacts. • To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive and serviceable citizenship. • To provide a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render unselfish service and to build better communities. • To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which makes possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism and good will.

Back To School Tips It's finally that (dreadful) time of year!! Get your backpacks and supplies ready because we're starting school. How fun /s. Since we haven't been in school for a while, here is a list of essentials and personal recommendations. * Water (try using a glass or metal water bottle instead of a plastic one) * Snacks (if you skipped breakfast [which is not recommended but things happen] you can snack on something tasty or just eat something throughout the day) * Pencil pouch (keep a pencil, pen, highlighter, eraser, white out, and marker in there) * Hand sanitizer and mask (since we are not clear of Covid yet, it is very very important to take precautions and stay safe.
