A word from our president Hey Seals! This is your club president, Samantha Tang. I hope all of you had a great time at your first month back to school! The cabinet members and I have a ton planned for October, so keep your eyes and ears open for any announcements. We have made many heartfelt memories during August and I can’t wait to make more. Check out the rest of the newsletters for recaps of the events and what lies ahead in the future. There is still so much time left and let’s all do our best to make the most of it. Thanks, Samantha Tang

A word from our Historian Hey!! This is Athena Chen, this year’s historian. This month’s edition is inspired by fall/autumn and the colors that go along with that. I will continue the member spotlight, so the other cabinet members and I will be looking out for outstanding seals who demonstrate the true aspects of a key club member. Other than that, I hope you enjoy this issue of the Los Altos Key Club Sealy News, and thanks for reading. Also, don’t forget to drink water and stay in a ventilated area since Covid is still very much a thing ^^ Yours truly, Athena Chen

Event Recap:
Color a smile movie night Color A Smile is a non-profit organization that provides the opportunity for people to make someone smile. This was also made into a movie night, while the students were coloring. They watched Luca, a coming-of-age story about Luca, his secrets, and his new friend. After the event ended, completed colored images are sent to the Color A Smile organization and would go on to a special person.

Event Recap:
La Verne Grand Prix
On Saturday, July 24th, an event service event was held for seals to earn their hours. At the event, volunteers guide the race, giving out water, and helping with registration. In the pictures are the bikers and seals. The first shot is of the bikers racing to the finish line! The second picture is showing the volunteers guide the race. The third picture is a group photo of most of the seals that attended. If you are interested in service events, the division’s socials will be linked down below on the socials page. There will be many more service events happening for the division as well as Los Altos :D

Event Recap:
July DCM The July DCM was quite an experience. This was open to members of Key Club and they had the option to attend online or inperson at Cortez Park. They also sold spam musubi and all profits are going towards charity. Before the DCM started, many of the officers and members were introducing themselves. After more people arrived, the meeting started off with an ice breaker. Afterward, each club stepped up one by one to disclose their old business and what they have planned in the future. Then came member and officer recognition. There was even a surprise at the end, where members sang happy birthday for an advisor of key club. A bit later, there was a spirit event, where officers got a pie full of shaving cream thrown in their faces! Join the next one if you can and information can be found on our Instagram or the division 35 west Instagram.

Future event:
Under the Sea: Service Week
Key club will be holding a service that is Under the Sea theme. During this week, more service events will be offered for seals to gain their service hours as well as compete against the other divisions participating. Division 04 North, Division 15 East, Division 11, and our own division will be joining the service week. This will also be a competition between the divisions for the most hours earned, so be sure to participate in some of the events! More information will be released once we near the service week :]

Covid precautions and tips We all know how much Covid-19 has impacted our lives and going back to school adds a lot of stress. This is why it’s essential not to forget that we are still living through a pandemic even though school is back in session. Please try to stay safe as everyone has the potential to get and carry Covid-19.
• Obviously, wear a mask however when readjusting your mask, pull it by your sides in order to avoid touching your eyes and face with your hands after touching the mask. A mask should also be covering the nose and mouth to be fully effective. • Wash your hands whenever you can and carry hand sanitizer with you. This is optional, but I also carry a bag of disinfectant wipes for handles, desks, and other things that have been in contact with others. • STAY SIX FEET APART WHEN POSSIBLE. Even if they are your close friends, it is important to keep yourself and the other person safe. Although it might seem trivial, this will help reduce the number of Covid infections at Los Altos. Yet, I have experienced the crowded hallways and crowds, so for that try to implement as much caution as possible. This can be done by eating in less crowded areas, walking on the side of the hallways, and doing other things. • Lastly, check up on your friends and ask how they’re doing. Even though we are back to school and talking with our friends, it is still hard on everyone. Since balancing school prior to Covid-19 was already difficult, the current situation can be overwhelming. So ask them how they are doing and if they need help with anything that is within your ability.
