EDITOR’S NOTE

Onwa December

Phewww! December. Where do I even start?

First of all, Naija is where it’s at! No country ‘Decembers’ the way Nigeria ‘Decembers’ when it comes to the holiday festivities.

As the year folds into its final chapter, the global air takes on a celebratory whoosh—so we decided to explore that. The airports get busier, the wind gets more chilly, the markets get louder, the streets get filled with more laughter, and we, whether alone or with company, begin to yearn for our holiday traditions.

At its heart lies a universal truth: celebrations, in all their forms, remind us of what it means to belong.

In this issue, we explore the multifaceted nature of holiday celebrations, delving into how these festivities shape our personal, family, and community lives. Gbemi Bad invites IJGBs to a memorable night at The Vault or a relaxing family beach day at Ilashe, while Fidelis Asie encourages backpacking adventures, highlighting how food and travel serve as powerful connectors that

strengthen bonds within families and communities. Amaka Amaku shares dreamy destinations for a magical Christmas, while Emmanuel Chuke emphasizes using this season as a time for reflection and renewal. Om inspires us to give back, yet Chef Chat tempts us to indulge in decadent delights.

Don’t forget to check out our top 10 holiday getaways in Western Nigeria and our top 5 holiday getaways in Northern Nigeria. We also have several holiday giveaways in store for youuu.

Here’s to embracing the festivities and undergoing a renewal. I pray your laughter lingers on even after the lights go out.

See you next year my loves! #DiscoverNigeria

I’m a 20-something-year-old living in Nigeria. I probably spend way too much time obsessing over self-care, food, tech, and anything else that makes my life easier. Like most people, I find randomly shopping online at odd hours therapeutic. For example, the fact that you picked up a copy of this magazine makes me like you. *Proceeds to add reader to cart!*

END OF THE ROAD

In December of 2022, we boarded our dogs in a kennel, and my husband, kids and I headed to the beach for an overnight trip. We blasted music as we drove down the Lekki Epe Expressway and made good time to the resort. It was an overnight with the Lost in Lagos team, and it happened to be the day of the World Cup final between France and Argentina. I met up with my co-workers for lunch, watched the match with my family, and attended a business meeting that lasted late into the night.

The next morning, my phone rang in our beachfront room. I answered, groggy, and it was a worried-sounding veterinarian from the animal clinic. Our French bulldog was having seizures, he said. I got that sour feeling in my stomach I had when my children were young and ill. “Let’s leave right now,” I told my husband.

am honest, I prefer a wild streak in those around me. It is exciting.

When we picked up our dog, the news wasn’t good. He was diagnosed with encephalitis, a fatal brain disease. We researched his condition and learned that most dogs die within a year. They sent him home taking one pill per day. A year later, he was taking three pills per day. We were able to travel last Christmas, and the vets at the clinic carefully gave him his medication while we were away. But our dog’s condition has deteriorated further. Now he takes medicine every 6 hours–6 separate pills spread through the day–and we’ve been told that this is it. Any additional pills and we will begin to poison his organs. He has run out of road. There is no cure for his disease.

“The dog will be okay,” my husband said. “He’s getting medical care from veterinarians who have known him since he was a puppy. He couldn’t be in better hands.”

So, we drove back to Lagos after a leisurely breakfast, but I worried. Despite his overwhelming desire to bite everyone he encounters, we are enchanted by our bulldog. We had enrolled him in dog training classes when he was 8 weeks old, but he refused to learn anything. He was feral, and when I attempted to identify a culprit, I could only blame myself. Taming creatures is not in my skill set. If you look back through our family photos, most of the pictures of my children are odd. They are often posed in locations no sensible person would place them, like standing on the dining table or dangling from a tree. That is why as a teacher it is my strong preference to instruct the eldest students at the school. I require others to do the thankless work of behaviour modification because, if I

I can’t explain how much I love my dog. If you have never loved a pet, it’s hard to comprehend. My dog loves me with his whole heart. When we are together in this often rough city, I am safe. He is always scanning the horizon, alert to danger, ready to give his life to protect his pack. When we are in our house, he snuggles in my lap and is perfectly still. I can come home from work stressed or frustrated and after stroking my beautiful dog, I am healed. He has put my broken heart back together in a thousand ways. I feel honoured to wake up at 5:00 a.m. to give him his first pills of the day because he has given me everything.

We won’t travel this Christmas because our dog is nearing the end. But I will have all I could ever want, if we can just have one more holiday with this beloved little man.

“Food and travel are powerful connectors, especially in a season of love and togetherness” ‘‘

What inspired you to embrace a nomadic lifestyle, and how has it changed your perspective on Nigerian cuisine and hospitality?

What inspires my nomadic lifestyle is a deep curiosity about people, cultures, and places. Growing up, I was fascinated by the diversity of Nigeria—its landscapes, languages, and traditions. I’ve always felt the pull to experience these firsthand, and travelling allows me to connect with the stories behind the food, the people who create it, and the environment that shapes it. This lifestyle has profoundly changed my perspective on Nigerian cuisine and hospitality.

I’ve come to appreciate the sheer diversity of our culinary heritage, from the spices of the North to the coastal flavours of the South. It has taught me that every dish has a story rooted in history, geography, and culture. Similarly, the hospitality I’ve experienced across different regions has shown me how

food connects us and bridges gaps, often turning strangers into friends. Living nomadically has not only deepened my respect for Nigerian cuisine but also inspired me to share these stories with the world, celebrating our rich food culture and the warmth of our people.

As a backpacker, what are some underrated travel spots in Nigeria that you’ve discovered, and why do you think they’re perfect for holiday experiences?

Omg! I love this question. Jos in Plateau state and Osun state are mightily slept on. I personally feel like Jos is the most beautiful place to visit in Nigeria because of the weather, the cuisine and the people.

Have you come across any regional dishes or ingredients during your travels that you think more people should try, especially during the holiday season?

Interview
M
eet Fidelis Asie Sisan, aka Fas, a pastry chef with over a decade of experience, specialising in both traditional and plantbased creations. Beyond the kitchen, Fas is a pastry chef and adventurer currently backpacking every state in Nigeria whilst on a budget and living in his bag, documenting his explorations and sharing stories that celebrate culture, food, and adventure.

That would definitely be Deltan cuisine. I feel like a lot of people are missing out on it—it’s incredibly rich. They have some of the best rice dishes and soups, like Owo soup with starch, coconut rice, and Banga rice. Each dish is packed with unique flavours and tells a story of the region’s culture and traditions. Their coconut rice, for example, is cooked differently from other parts of the country, and the choice of protein is often unique. More people should experience it!

Can you share some plant-based recipes that are festive and family-friendly for the holiday season?

Absolutely! The V-chunks and mushrooms fried rice. It’s

absolutely delicious, I actually made a reel about it on my Instagram page.

In a season that celebrates togetherness, do you think food and travel can create deeper connections within families and communities?

Food and travel are powerful connectors, especially in a season of love and togetherness. Sharing meals fosters bonding and preserves traditions, while travelling together creates shared memories and broadens perspectives. Together, they deepen connections within families and communities, making celebrations even more meaningful.

When Gbemi Akinugbade, AKA Gbemi Bad isn’t “big boying” as the Executive Vice President of Clearwater Communications, he’s probably somewhere coordinating events for Amapiano district. As the co-owner of The Vault Social House and the Head of Strategy and Development at Faaji App, Gbemi is making celebrations in Lagos hotter and badder!

You’re leading the charge with The Vault and the Faaji App, what inspired these platforms, and what legacy do you hope to leave in the Nigerian entertainment and lifestyle space? I joined the Faaji app as the Head of Strategy and Development in 2022. My role was to help push the app in the direction it needed to go. We’ve covered major events and created brand awareness for a lot of experiences. The Faaji app creates a lifestyle for the modern-day outsider. We’ve taken huge steps between 2022 and

2024, and we’re sure the forthcoming year will be major for us.

With The Vault, we started about a year ago, and our anniversary is on the 22nd of December. It was created as an upscale social house with a luxury experience and is home to anyone interested in socialising and networking, meeting beautiful people, or simply having fun and enjoying a good time. We’ve been growing each month, and our customer retention has been strong, with new

customers coming in regularly. It has been a complete learning experience for me, as this is the first club I’ve opened, and I’m hoping to open more in the near future.

How do you see your businesses impacting the broader African entertainment and lifestyle industry?

I’d start with The Vault, which creates an upscale experience for a decent price, considering the state of the economy right now. You can come in and have a fantastic time, even on a budget. We’re basically setting the tone for what a great party should look like in the 21st century. With different vibes and unique experiences, no days are the same in The Vault.

On another venture, with Amapiano District, we are trying to build the biggest Amapiano party in Lagos, Nigeria. At the same time, we are expanding to different cities across the continent, shipping the experiences elsewhere. Like I always say, every edition is a masterclass. We’ve also had the opportunity to collaborate with various brands, including Martell, Hennessy, and Kuda, to name a few. This highlights how these brands recognise our vision, appreciate the work we’re doing, and want to be a part of it.

the party is. Users rely on the app to discover the vibes for the week or weekend, creating a seamless connection that allows them to access the best parties and events in their city—whether from their sofa or on the go.

For new travellers looking to visit Lagos for the first time this December as their holiday destination, what top 3 experiences would you recommend?

The first place I’d recommend for top 3 experiences would be The Vault, of course. It has several options to pick from you could decide to try Wall Street Thursdays, Red Fridays or join the guest list on Saturdays. Another experience I’d recommend is some beach time at Illashe. As soon as you touch down in Lagos, pick a day to visit. You can go with a group of friends, get a boat, and book a good beach house. Ilashe is like Lagos away from Lagos but without the noise and chaos of the city.

Lastly, in third place, an experience you should have is going to a rave, getting a drink, booking a standing table if you can, dancing and having loads of fun. We occasionally run a rave at The Vault sometimes. These would be the top 3 experiences I would recommend to anyone in Lagos this December.

THE SPIRIT GIVING BACK of

Christmas is the holiday that embodies giving. We enjoy expressing our love for one another by splurging on presents and receiving them in return, don’t we? However, aren’t we missing the point? In my experience, the most memorable Christmases I’ve had did not involve receiving the perfect gift, and the greatest lessons I’ve learned have coincided with a generous spirit unconnected to material objects.

When I was a small boy, during the latter months of the year, my school decided to allow us to participate in the classic Christmas caper: Secret Santa. Everyone was assigned a classmate in secret and told to buy a gift for them. A younger and more naïve Om was thrilled at the prospect. I anticipated spending a few minutes shopping with my mother and receiving a thoughtful, personalised, painstakingly chosen gift from one of my classmates in return.

It did not pan out that way. Come that fateful morning, I eagerly awaited the moment we would receive our gifts. I could barely sit still, which was unfortunate because my teacher organised the process as slowly as possible.

The boy I had purchased a gift for sat directly to my right. My mother and I decided to get him a chocolate bar and a book, hoping he might delight in the candy and his parents might appreciate the book.

My teacher instructed all of us to close our eyes. After a painful interlude filled with the sound of movement and the crumpling of wrapping paper, she said we could uncover our faces. Twenty-four children opened their eyes to find wrapped presents resting on each desk.

Time has washed away the exact shape and size of my own, but the feeling of infinite possibility can’t be forgotten as easily. We opened our gifts one at a time. The boy I had so carefully selected a candy bar for chose that moment to shriek that he was allergic to chocolate.

Oh well, I thought. I continued to focus on my growing anticipation. Finally, it was my turn, I ripped open the paper, my mind racing, simultaneously dreading the infinite possibilities of being reduced to one trinket, while also wanting nothing more than to have a new toy car or electronic game–in retrospect, I don’t know why my hopes were so high.

I looked down at my “gift” and tasted blood. A pack of math flashcards and a water bottle sat before me. My teacher took a special interest in my reaction, revealing that she was my Secret Santa, even though it was supposed to be an anonymous affair. I loathed math. I looked across the room at my friend’s new remote-controlled car and politely told my teacher, “I love my gift.” When I used the water bottle on the school bus, it leaked all over my shirt. I got home and howled with rage.

Since then, I have matured. I realised that my primary school teacher did her best. She didn’t know what a child would like or possess the ability to spend money frivolously like the students she taught, yet she still bought these things for me. I now see this as one of the most meaningful gifts I have ever received. She didn’t buy a gift hoping that she would receive a better one in return; she gave for the spirit of giving. That’s what Christmas means to me now, and I hope that as my life continues to evolve, that spirit will always remain within me.

Soho Lagos is the perfect spot to visit on a hot weekend with no wedding invitations to honour. After an exhausting week, sometimes it’s good to spend the money you’ve worked hard for—don’t you agree? Motivated by this philosophy, I went to check out this relatively new restaurant in Lekki Phase 1.

Lagos is known for its plethora of food houses, each belonging to several categories consisting of upscale, midscale and low-scale places with unique menu curations. Soho Lagos fits smack into midscale, targeting middle-income persons and providing a fair balance of quality and affordability. It is located just before the curve of a crescent-shaped road and is typified by its signature arches.

Once I stepped through the varnished wooden gates, I felt as if I was transported out of Nigeria into a North African country. While there was not a lot of space within the premises, the building stood like a temple. I was welcomed by a charming lady who confirmed my name with “I have been waiting for you!”. This warmed my heart because Soho operates a strict reservation policy. I was shown to my seat which overlooked a window as wide as my arms stretched out from end to end.

SPOT REVIEW

From my window seat, I could see the mini hollowed arches that housed twenty moulded vessels of varying sizes and designs in each. Soho, from within, feels like a warm embrace. It is lit up by several small and carefully positioned bulbs that create a soft glow during the day and night. Its stucco walls, marble tables, wooden cushioned chairs, earthen vases, and gold-plated minimalist centrepieces all combine to create the ultimate contemporary experience in West Africa.

I must mention the attentive service I received. From being shown how to scan the QR code to see the menu to picking fallen cutlery, their waitstaff was eager to assist. They exuded the warmth of the atmosphere, all genteel and customer-focused. I ordered the beef quesadilla and strawberry daiquiri. Quite impressively, the twentyfive-minute wait time quickly flew by as I and my date leveraged the quiet ambience for good conversation. My daiquiri arrived first, heralded by the noise of the shaker, but everything else was in order. It gave a good kick while being sweet, almost irresistible to sip.

The quesadilla looked like something straight out of Mexico. It was quartered, which made it easier and neater to eat. I opted for beef

stuffing, and it was a pleasurable experience. Not too cheesy or overly flavourful, the seasoning of the stuffing and the soft but crisp texture of the tortilla was a match made in heaven. I savoured every bite from start to finish. It did help that the vegetables were crunchy and fresh. The menu said the quesadilla came paired with homemade guacamole, but I was not exactly sure if what I had was a guacamole or a salsa. I expected something mushier, but I was served a pico de gallo with diced guacamole in it. It tasted good though.

the location. The music selection was eclectic but mildly energetic. It is a lovely place for group outings, business meetings, and a nice evening with friends. For introverts, its off-peak hours are the best time to visit. You get the undivided attention of the staff and its quiet embrace.

Profoundly powerful.

FirstBank Enabling Nation-building through Golf Sponsorship

Simply put, it was gold standard, exemplified by excellence. That better explained what played out at this year’s FirsBank Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship which held at the Golf Section of Ikoyi Club 1938 18th - 24th November 2024. It was the 63rd in its series and it coincided with 130th anniversary celebration of the giant banking institution.

It was golf at its very best.

Well, it was not totally unexpected, when you are a bank woven deep into the fabric of the society, commitment to ideals that impact the society is one thing that you hold dear. That was exactly what FirstBank of Nigeria Limited showcased in the weeklong competition. And the impact was felt far and wide, leaving many yearning for more.

It was golf, sport for kings and royals. To achieve success in it, you must be dedicated, and as some would say; discovered early to be harnessed for future growth. For that to turn reality, you’ll need a committed partner. That’s exactly what the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Bank; OlusegunAlebiosu meant when he said, “that’s why we are FirstBank”, a bank that is committed to the ideal that uplifts the society.

The Championship started with Search4Stars, a sub-event of the tournament geared towards discovering talent in their prime; to donation to Charities; down to quest for fame and honour on the course.

Ever since its debut 63-years ago, winning the championship comes with huge rewards. It throws you up as a hero and opens sponsorship doors for winners.

In 2003 Andrew Odoh savour such honors. The success got him sponsorship for a training tour of the more established SunshineTour in South Africa, got trained by Gary Polard and returned to Nigeria as a professional golfer.

Similarly success in 2002 earned Port Harcourt based Willy Gift sponsorship package from TotalEnergies and other oil companies.

The amateur championship When the countdown to this year’s edition began months back, so much was expected. It was a roll call of the best amateurs the nation can boast of. There was Tim Ayonmike, Peter Eben-Spiff, Remi Olukoya, Akeem Lawal, Samuel Emmanuel; the young man who lost to Isaac Umoru last year, the ever contending Olajide Owolabi and many more.

Day-one started on the light note with Hameed Adenekan, young man based in Ikoyi Club 1938, taking part in the competition for the second time returning with an impressive level-par 71; followed by a former champion, Emmanuel Ojeabulu, at 73. There was also Emmanuel Desmond at 74 and France’s Michael Raillard one of the non-Nigerians on the course at 74.

Day-two was as seamless, great golf but when the trio of Adenekan, Emmanuel and Desmond stepped out for the final round on Sunday morning, the tension was palpable.

Playing with a 5-shot lead going into the finals, the pressure was on for Adenekan, somehow he managed his nerve securing victory with 225-score for 12-over par over 54-holes.

Adenekan recorded 71 on Day 1, 70 on Day

2 and a closing 82 to secure the top spot of a competitive Leaderboard. Akeem Lawal came second place and started his 54-hole journey with 75, 4-over par, a second round of 76 and a closing 76 ultimately finishing two shots behind the winner and pushing favourites Emmanuel and Desmond down the leaderboard.

Somewhere on the Course, on that sunny afternoon, also were two former champions battling for money. As Pros, the winning purse is always the attraction. This time around, the purse was unexpected. On offer was the biggest purse ever in the Nigeria PGA; a whooping N34 million for a one day shoot out, with the winner going home with the winning purse of N10m.

The Pro shoot out

Now, if the amateur round was tension soaked, the Professional category was even more. However Tajudeen Ajayi from Ikoyi Club 1938 Golf Club triumphed in an exhilarating threehole playoff.

He had locked in a tie at par with former top seed Odoh, engaging in a sudden death showdown. The intense playoff which spanned three-holes led to Tajudeen hard fought victory.

Thrilled by the impressive display and turnout, CEO Alebiosu affirmed FirstBank dedication to sponsorship of not just FirstBank Lagos Open but to continue to maintain their stand as being First@Sports.

As he rightly put it, “this is why we are FirstBank, this is why we are truly the first. Underlining this with this First@Sports event.

Wahid’s Ventures in Nigeria

Tell us about yourself and your business.

My name is Ali. I am an entrepreneur specializing in logistics and hospitality. In the logistics sector, I lead QCS, a freight forwarding company dedicated to efficient and reliable cargo solutions. In hospitality, I have invested in international food chains, including Eric Kayser and Leila, bringing diverse culinary experiences to Nigeria.

Why did you decide to invest in Nigeria?

I began developing businesses in Nigeria 10 years ago. Geographically Nigeria is well positioned as a logistics hub in West Africa and its a vibrant, diverse market, which presents significant opportunities for our companies. Nigeria’s young population brings a new level of exuberance and optimism to the country. Investing here has allowed me to contribute to its growth, create jobs and introduce some international benchmarks in logistics and hospitality.

Why did you choose to invest in Alaro City and how do you feel about it today?

I chose to invest in Alaro City because of its vision for sustainable urban development and its strategic location, which supports logistics and hospitality businesses alike. Today, I feel comfortable with the decision; it has proven to be a solid investment with room for future expansion.

How does this compare to your other investments?

Compared to other projects, the investment in Alaro City has shown stability and consistent growth. Its strategic planning and partnerships and delivery make it an easy choice. I’m confident it will continue to thrive in the coming years.

Speaking of the future projections, do you have any New Year resolutions?

Yes, I do. My resolutions often focus on personal growth and professional milestones. Each year, I strive to set achievable goals that push me to become a better version of myself while also contributing positively to the lives of others.

What will you wish for next year for yourself, Nigeria, and the world?

For myself, I wish for continued growth, good health, and meaningful connections. For Nigeria, I hope for stability, stronger infrastructure, and economic prosperity. And for the world, I wish for more compassion, collaboration, and peace.

5 FACTS ABOUT ALARO CITY YOU DIDN’T KNOW

1. Alaro City infrastructure sets a benchmark for the region. The Main Boulevard is the only privately built and maintained 8-lane road in the region.

2. Alaro City is home to 75 businesses. One of them, TY Logistics Park, is the only Grade A logistics facility in Nigeria. Alaro City has the largest SME hub in the Lekki Free Zone.

4. Alaro City has a green space in 10 minutes walk from every point in the city.

5. In the last 5 years, the valuation of Alaro City serviced plots appreciated between 64% to 95% in US dollars, making it a stable and attractive investment for investors both at home and abroad.

From

London to Lagos: A Consultant’s Journey to Reconnecting with Nigeria

For Femi Olu, a London-based consultant with deep ties to Nigeria, home is more than a place—it’s a connection to heritage, family and future aspirations. Although he left Nigeria at a young age, his love for the country remains. Today, through strategic investments and a desire to give back, Femi is charting a path that connects his life abroad with his roots back in Nigeria.

Are you open to ideas about investing back in Nigeria? Why? Absolutely. For me, investing in Nigeria serves two important purposes: it establishes a personal connection and foundation in the country for the future. If I visit more often, it secures a place for the next generation of my family —something that ties back to our heritage in a meaningful way.

How did you decide to make your investment in Alaro City? How do you feel about it today?

Alaro City stood out to me as a thoughtfully planned, mixed-use development with a focus on quality of life. Its emphasis on leisure, wellness, and reliable infrastructure—like well-maintained roads, consistent power, and dependable water supply—gave me the confidence to move forward.

Looking back, I’m glad I made the decision. The vision of the city resonates with my aspirations for a balanced, community-centered lifestyle, and I feel optimistic about its potential to grow into an even

more vibrant hub.

How does your Alaro City investment perform compared to other investment projects?

The construction quality at Alaro City is exceptional, with great attention to detail and high standards for both the units and the management of the community. While it’s still early days and the demand is growing, I’m confident that as more amenities are introduced and the community matures, the value of the development will only increase. It’s a long-term vision, but one that I trust will pay off.

Do you have any tradition of New Year resolutions?

Yes, my focus this year is to achieve more clarity in my life and give back. I want to organise my home and personal spaces to achieve a more streamlined, stress-free environment. Beyond that, I’m committed to supporting a cause in Lagos that I’m passionate about— something that will allow me to make a tangible, positive impact in the community.

• Add filling: Add the mozzarella cheese over the rolled out dough

• Twist the dough: Roll the dough tightly from the long side to form a log, cut the log lengthwise down the middle, exposing the layers of the cheese. Twist the two halves together, keeping the cut sides facing up.

SPOT OF THE MONTH CELEBRATIONS

SPOT OF THE MONTH

CELEBRATIONS

Many people don’t know this, but Santa has been in Nigeria for several years. But for three and a half decades, he’s quietly been working his magic. Having set up his gift factory in the heart of the cold North, he’s been spreading joy and helping people express love and gratitude in meaningful ways. At 79 Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja you’ll find Santa’s iconic factory, an all-seasonal place where affection and generosity find tangible expression.

Long before he became the legend we know today, Santa,

then a young man, fell in love and was smitten by Mrs. Claus. Lost in the tides of her fondness, he was intent on finding the perfect gift to show his affection to the love of his life. He painstakingly sought ways to do this. It was a wild ride, but nonetheless, he was determined. So Santa travelled across the globe to source the perfect items to express his love and affection. Completely head over heels, he did this act several times. It was his love language.

One faithful day, Santa was preparing to embark on another one of his love trips. He planned on getting Mr. Claus a very grand gift. He wanted it to be her best one yet. He tries to outdo himself on every travel. It wasn’t like it was their anniversary or anything, he wanted to get her a new gift ‘just

because’. A finished man? Well, isn’t that what love should be about? When he was about to get on his horse-pulled sleigh, a friend approached him with a request. The friend needed Santa’s help to find the perfect birthday gift for someone special. In that moment, inspiration struck like a sleigh bell in winter. Why stop at gifting Mrs. Claus? Why not help others express their love and appreciation too? A lightbulb moment indeed!

This was how Celebrations, Santa’s gift factory was birthed. This is actually a true-life story, except some people fondly

know Santa as Papa D. In the early years, Papa D’s mission was to support young people who, despite their modest budgets, were eager to make their affection known. He curated quality and affordable gifts that allowed them to show how much they cared.

At Celebrations, the art of gifting is taken seriously. Whether you’re shopping for a client, an employee, a best friend, or that one person who seems impossible to shop for, Papa D’s team—Santa’s little helpers—are there to guide you. They understand the challenge of finding the ideal gift and work tirelessly to provide thoughtful, creative solutions that suit every occasion. For those looking to make a statement, the shelves are lined with carefully selected items, ranging from

charming to grand, ensuring there’s something for every relationship and budget. From timeless classics to unique novelties, every gift carries the magic of intention.

And if visiting the gift factory in person isn’t an option, don’t worry. Santa understands the demands of modern life. Celebrations offers seamless online shopping and delivery, ensuring that distance or busy

schedules don’t stand in the way of showing how much you care.

PRISM PARTIES

ARE PROVING THAT JOY IS A RADICAL ACT—AND IN NIGERIA, IT’S A MUCHNEEDED ONE

In Nigeria’s challenging social landscape, women have long struggled to find spaces that truly celebrate their identity, safety, and potential. Prism emerged as a revolutionary response— creating empowering and joyful experiences for women and queer individuals.

Over the past year, Prism has hosted six thoughtfully themed parties, each designed to foster community and encourage self-expression— and about to host their 7th to round up a great year. What makes Prism Parties truly remarkable isn’t just the number of attendees but the stories they bring to life. Over 500 unique women have walked through Prism’s doors, many returning time and time again, creating an 80% repeat attendance rate—a testament to the magnetic pull of these gatherings. Beyond the dance floors and liberal themes, Prism is also making tangible contributions to the local economy. More than 10 women-owned businesses have been supported through partnerships, showcasing the initiative’s commitment to economic empowerment.

And the stories keep coming:

“I enjoyed every bit of the party and don’t think I’ll miss any from henceforth. Thanks for helping me unwind.”

“Yesterday was a groove and it was one hell of a damn party even tho the rain tried to make it not happen. I had so much fun and I’m never gonna miss a PRISM party.”

As 2026 approaches, Prism has even bigger ambitions. Plans are in motion to expand to new cities, develop a digital community platform, create mentorship programs, support 100+ women-owned businesses, and host over 50 events annually, creating more opportunities for women to connect and celebrate across Nigeria. The ultimate goal? To build a pan-African network of empowered women, with Prism as the premier networking platform for social, economic, and creative empowerment.

SPOT REVIEW

PINK BEAR

When you hear the name “Pink Bear Restaurant,” it instantly sparks visions of fluffy pink chairs, pastel walls, and a dreamy, girly wonderland. But the moment I stepped into this beautiful spot in Wuse 2, Abuja, I realised it was something entirely different—and even better. Pink Bear may not drown you in pink, but it wraps you in a charm that’s impossible to resist.

From the very first step inside, I was greeted by a soothing warmth, as if the space itself was designed to hug you. The cosy lighting, art-lined walls, and soft jazz covers floating in the air created a perfect mix of calm and elegance. It was intimate, inviting, and full of character, a perfect place for a romantic date, a girly catch-up or a solo moment of indulgence.

The menu offered an array of tempting options, but as a pasta lover, I zeroed in on the Pink Bear Fettuccine with BBQ wings and French fries. The food arrived in record time, under 10 minutes, and its creamy, well-seasoned goodness was an instant delight. But here’s the catch: the plating! Served on plain, unsophisticated plates, it felt like the aesthetics didn’t quite match the food’s flavours.

For drinks, I tried the Oreo Cookie Blend, hoping for something decadent. Instead, I was left wrestling with a stubborn sealed cup that refused to pop with a straw, and the taste lacked the indulgence I craved—a disappointing 5/10. Surprisingly, everything I ordered was quite affordable. Another reason to visit again lol.

Still, what truly elevated the experience was the staff. They were warm, attentive, and ever-ready to step in. When my drink cup defeated me, a cheerful waiter came to the rescue with a knife, all smiles, like they saw it coming. Their hospitality added an extra layer of comfort to the visit.

Pink Bear might not fit the pink fantasy its name evokes, but it delivers where it matters: ambience, flavour, and unforgettable service. If you’re looking to unwind, connect, or simply escape the chaos of the outside world, Pink Bear is a delightful retreat. A little more effort in plating and a splash of extra pink wouldn’t hurt (my personal request, lol), but for now, it’s a haven for anyone who lives for the soft life.

Reflections & Renewals: an Ode to Christmas

As the year draws to a close, the holiday season offers a unique opportunity for reflection and renewal. The world seems to pause from its hustle and bustle, leaving us to slow down and take stock of our lives. I often use this time to reflect on past year accomplishments and set goals for the coming year.

The transition from the dry season to the harmattan brings a distinct change in the atmosphere. The cooler, drier air, sometimes accompanied by a touch of seasonal allergies, creates a cosy ambience.

Christmas, a season of joy and laughter, is a cherished tradition accompanied with a series of activities; including the gathering of loved ones to share hearty meals, watch movies, or simply enjoy each other’s company. I fondly recall spending Christmas with my grandmother, the matriarch of our family. I, and my many cousins, would gather at her home, play games, share stories, and create lasting memories. The excitement of Christmas eve shopping, the tiresome walks in the market, to the ambitious kitchen ceremonies, where I am often handed the job of butchering whatever unlucky livestock was fat enough to grace our tables, were all terrifying but oddly satisfying experiences. We would also prepare festive meals, and sing joyous carolling sessions from Boney M Christmas album, which was truly magical.

While our Christmas traditions may have evolved over the years, the essence remains the same: spending quality time with the people I care the most about. Now, as an adult, I prioritize self-care, such as indulging in a relaxing bath or a massage session. I also use this time to reflect on the past year, set new goals, and express gratitude for the blessings in my life.

The ideal Christmas, though perhaps a myth, can be found in the simple pleasures of life. It’s about cherishing the moments of love, laughter, and togetherness, even amidst the chaos and imperfection. I hope everyone gets to experience the Christmas that they truly desire, with hopes of experiencing a better one in the forthcoming coming year.

May your holiday season be filled with joy, peace, and love.
