EDITOR’S NOTE
ITALAWA
As the new year dawns, it brings with it an opportunity to breathe anew, to rediscover the spaces that surround us, and to immerse ourselves in the boundless wonder of the outdoors.
Whether by fate or coincidence, I think it’s pretty special that the outdoor issue, our first of the year, begins the Lost in Lagos Plus Magazine journey to bring more coverage and tell more stories from the different parts of Nigeria. And just like the translation for the Yoruba word “Italawa,” we really are outsideee guys!
The outdoors has often been relegated to the margins of our lives—weekend escapes, vacation retreats, or occasional getaways. But what if we reimagined it as an integral part of our daily rhythm?
From tranquil parks to kayak coastlines, and sunlit football savannahs to lush city pockets, this issue, like Nigeria’s landscapes, is a proud invitation to connect— with nature, with others, and with ourselves.
And with Awari Experiences, we are offering
opportunities to embrace the outdoors in a way that’s both inspiring and accessible.
In this issue, Chinedu Mogbo shares how conservation is a great way to interact with nature, and Abdurrahman gives 9 reasons why wandering will help you uncover gems, and promote mental clarity, creativity, and your overall well-being this 2025. Halimat Bamgbopa wants you to Kayak in Lagos, but Om Opubor thinks football might be your best bet. Don’t forget to check out the top 10 active activities to kickstart your fit lifestyle, and our top 5 family outdoor activities to do in Abuja.
So, as we step into 2025, let’s make a resolution together—not just to look outward, but to step outward.
Go out, and touch some grass.
Happy New Year!

Summer Outdoor Wide-Brim Beach Hat –Khaki by Sojoee Hats Off To You
Shield yourself from the sun in style with the Summer Outdoor Wide-Brim Beach Hat by Sojoee. This chic khaki hat is more than just an accessory; it’s your perfect companion for beach days, garden parties, and scenic hikes. Lightweight, breathable, and effortlessly elegant, it’s designed to keep you cool and fashionable while soaking in the outdoors.
I’m a 20-something-year-old living in Nigeria, so you know I’m constantly tired. I spend way too much time obsessing over self-care, food, tech, and anything else that makes my life easier, making me your perfect plug for anything! Like most people, I find randomly shopping online at odd hours therapeutic, so much so that if you look into your mirror and say “retail therapy” three times, I will appear.
Before moving to Nigeria, I lived with my family in suburban New Jersey. We were an active bunch. I took my children to lessons in music, art, dance, gymnastics, foreign languages, etc. When I wasn’t frittering away my husband’s hard earned money on activities our kids showed no interest in, we visited friend’s houses for playdates, went to outdoor concerts, rode bicycles, took walks, played at local playgrounds and swam at the town pool.
Excited for Awari Experiences
My kids are now young adults, and our needs have evolved. Last Christmas, my husband drove us to Togo, and we had an epic week at the beach, sunbathing and drinking virgin pina coladas. At night, my offspring hung out in their suite and watched old movies from their youth, which in their case is the 2010s. Driving across west Africa felt like coming home. It rekindled my desire to explore…within limits. Although I love having adventures, I despise danger, planning and risk.
We had family memberships to a small zoo nearby, as well as to the Bronx Zoo and the Museum of Natural History, both in New York City. We also went to the theater, cinema, amusement parks, professional sports games and aquariums–any place worth seeing was worth a visit. It was great fun to be in the Opubor family during our New Jersey days. We had grand adventures. We have pictures from railway museums, airplane museums, old zinc mines and decommissioned battleships.
We moved to Lagos in 2011, and the adventures ground to a halt. As recent arrivals, we visited playgrounds at private clubs, the now defunct go-kart arena and the Lekki Conservation Centre, but choices were limited. Over time, more businesses opened. As my kids grew into teens, we could visit a trampoline park, see an IMAX movie or go to a nice restaurant with a pool available for diners.
Where does one go for a safe, engaging experience in Lagos? It begins when enterprising entrepreneurs curate and promote packages. Take me hiking somewhere in Lagos state and feed me the soup the neighbourhood is celebrated for. Host a yoga class on the roof of a Victoria Island highrise, serenity flickering among the blaring horns. How about a class outside on a cool harmattan afternoon, where middle aged moms like me can learn the dances that pair with current music? I’d be interested in brunch, a tour of Lagos, a boat ride on the lagoon, arts and crafts, a day at the beach, a gallery visit, kayaking, bowling, a street food tasting or a tour of food markets.
The Awari app is the perfect place to market the kinds of experiences that make Lagos accessible. If you’re an entrepreneur, list your activities with Awari. If you’re an adventure lover, make it a habit to check Awari Experiences to choose your next adventure.

Interview With Chinedu Mogbo Founder, The Greenfingers Wildlife Initiative
‘‘
Nigerians love to spend time outdoors and crave leisure activities – this can be seen during holiday periods and festive seasons –however, many do not see the necessity or the need to play their role
Meet Chinedu Mogbo, a Biomedical Science and Public Health graduate from DeMontfort and Warwick Universities. Initially set on medical school at St. George’s University in Grenada, life redirected him to Nigeria, reshaping his journey. Though his heart once leaned toward Veterinary Medicine, parental advice steered him toward more “lucrative” paths in science. Chinedu’s story is one of adaptability, resilience, and a love for learning. He inspires others to embrace their passions and redefine success on their terms.
Lovely to meet you, Chinedu. Could you please tell us a bit about your personal background and journey?
Returning to Nigeria, I started a role as a teacher in a private school and at the same time started a small project of keeping animals in a land space close to the school I taught in. I would spend much time, resources and effort to ensure that the animals were in great condition and well looked after. This later bloomed into the Greenfingers Wildlife Sanctuary born from a Non-Governmental organisation called the Greenfingers Wildlife Initiative.
The Greenfingers Wildlife Initiative started as a means to support our local wildlife and raise awareness about the plight of animals in Nigeria. However, it has grown to support rescued wildlife within a sanctuary, educate Nigerians on the importance of conserving biodiversity, host numerous wildlife-themed events and become a household name for wildlife rescue in Lagos state.
Can you tell us about the origins of Green Fingers and what inspired its focus on wildlife conservation and sustainability in Nigeria?
The Greenfingers Wildlife Initiative started because of my love and passion for animals. I have always lived with one kind of animal (ants in a jar to owning dogs and birds) since I was 6 years old. I refer to this as my Natural Intelligence according to Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligence – so I always gravitate towards animals of every kind. This flare sparked my journey at 25 years old to begin searching the city for the animals I could find needing some form of help or the other – thus birthing the Greenfingers Wildlife Initiative. My passion has kept me going for over a decade and I learn new things every day.
How do you see conservation shaping the way Nigerians interact with outdoor spaces daily, beyond leisure activities?
Nigerians love to spend time outdoors and crave leisure
activities – this can be seen during holiday periods and festive seasons – however, many do not see the necessity or the need to play their role. Nigeria is plagued with a culture that does not promote conservation in many areas, however, there are some aspects where culture promotes conservation such as the sacred groves in Osun-Osogbo – where Nigerians can deepen daily reverence and connection to nature.
Many outdoor spaces, such as beaches and nature parks, are frequently visited by Nigerians. These green areas promote a healthy and clean lifestyle, encouraging relaxation and daily interactions with nature, as well as opportunities for exercise.
Other areas conservation can shape the way Nigerians can interact with outdoor spaces include the use of more ecofriendly transport (promoting healthy lifestyles as well as reducing carbon footprints), renewable energy, eco-tourism (fostering a sustainable relationship with the environment) and environmental education (increasing awareness – making people more mindful of their interaction with the environment through waste disposal and energy consumption).
How can individuals or local communities contribute to conservation efforts in Nigeria?
Local communities and individuals can always contribute to conservation efforts in the following ways:
• Self-education – it is important that as a people, we must understand our community and the other living things (non-human) we share such spaces with – and the beneficial roles these creatures play within our space.
• Waste responsibility – communities and individuals should be responsible for their waste – despite measures provided by the Government in dealing with waste – we must identify how we can help curb waste via recycling, upcycling and applying moderation in most of our activities.
• Reducing our carbon footprint – by being energy and environmentally conscious, we can reduce our carbon emissions which damage the ozone layer and lead to global warming. Simple decisions like walking instead of driving, switching off the lights when not in use and proper refuse disposal are crucial to ensuring a sustainable lifestyle
Looking ahead, what are Green Fingers’ long-term goals for transforming outdoor spaces in Nigeria?
Our long-term goals include building more sanctuaries and green areas where Nigerians can learn about wildlife, interact with nature and appreciate our biodiversity on a grand scale. We want to transform wasted landscapes into rich biodiverse communities through tree-planting and afforestation projects – thereby creating areas of tranquillity within the city’s concrete jungle.
• Greening your space – many homes and communities lack trees which help provide local habitats for many species. It is important that every community and home in Nigeria should have a tree or trees – which could also be a food source.
Interview With
Halimat Bamgbopa, Digital Marketer and Founder, Kayak
Thrills
Meet Halimat Bamgbopa, a digital marketer and founder of Kayak Thrills. Born and raised in Abeokuta, she began her journey as a freelance photographer before transitioning into marketing for global hospitality brands. Now in Lagos, Halimat curates unforgettable experiences through Kayak Thrills, offering kayak bookings, team bonding activities, and tailored trips. Her passion lies in crafting fun and meaningful adventures for clients.
What inspired you to start Kayak Thrills and introduce kayaking as a recreational activity in Lagos?
Before moving to Lagos, I had a passion for exploring, and after settling in, I was constantly on the lookout for fun activities to do. One afternoon while at work in Ikoyi, I found a spot for kayaking. Although it wasn’t my first time kayaking, I was thrilled. The following weekend, I invited three friends, and together we had our very first kayak hangout.
Kayaking is often seen as a niche activity. How do you make it accessible and appealing to a broader audience in Lagos?
Kayaking may seem niche, but we’ve made it accessible in Lagos by partnering with central waterfront locations and affordable pricing. Our activities cater to all skill levels, and we provide double kayaks so couples, families, and friends can enjoy it together. To make it more appealing, we’ve integrated kayaking into team bonding packages and adventurous tours that include activities like sip and paint, boat cruises, and jet skiing, creating memorable experiences. Lagosians love unique, Instagram-worthy outings, so we showcase the beauty of our waterways through engaging social media content, influencer collaborations, and targeted ads, making kayaking an exciting alternative to the usual hangouts.
location in Lekki Phase 1 offers one of the best settings for this experience. It’s a unique outdoor activity that blends adventure, serenity, and a deep connection with nature. Kayaking allows you to glide across the water, take in stunning views, especially the Lekki Ikoyi link bridge, and enjoy a lowimpact workout. It’s also incredibly versatile—perfect for solo reflection, bonding with friends and family, or team-building activities.
Do you have any upcoming plans or expansions for Kayak Thrills, such as introducing new activities/experiences that might be of interest to users of Awari Experiences?
I have exciting plans in the works! We’re looking to expand, creating a space where people can enjoy a variety of activities like sip and paint, pottery, and paintballing all in one location. We’re also planning to add more kayaks, making it possible for larger groups to enjoy the water together.
What advice would you give to an Awari Experience user who is new to kayaking but eager to try it for the first time?
What are some of the best spots to kayak in Lagos, and what makes Kayaking unique from other outdoor experiences?
Kayaking is ideal for calm, slow-moving waters, and our
My advice to Awari users new to kayaking is to start slow and focus on enjoying the experience rather than rushing through it. First, ensure you’re comfortable with basic safety tips, such as wearing a life jacket and learning how to steer and paddle properly—our instructor will guide you through the basics. Take your time to get familiar with the kayak and the water, and feel free to request that our instructor accompany you for guidance and support.
“Kayaking allows you to glide across the water, take in stunning views, and enjoy a low-impact workout. It’s incredibly versatile— perfect for solo reflection, bonding with friends and family, or team-building activities”

POT COCONUT RICE
Ingredients
500g Goat Meat (Chopped Into Bits)
1/2 Cup Vegetable Oil
Onions
Coconut Flavor
Thyme
1 Pack Coconut Flakes
200g Red Pepper Mix (Red Cayenne Peppers, Red Habanero Peppers)
250g Local Nigerian Rice
Seasoning Cubes (As Preferred)
Bell Peppers (Red, Green, Yellow)
1/2 Cup Cray Fish
3 Teaspoons Pepper Soup Spice
1/2 Cup Coconut Milk
1 Stalk Spring Onions
INSTRUCTION
• Boil the rice until it is about 70% cooked. Drain it, wash it to remove excess starch, and place it in a strainer to eliminate any remaining water droplets.
• In a saucepan, heat some vegetable oil and add the goat meat. Stir-fry briefly to brown the meat slightly. Next, add chopped onions and a dash of coconut flavour, allowing them to fry together and release a rich aroma into the oil and meat.
• Sprinkle in some thyme and stir, then add coconut flakes that have been dried and drained of moisture to minimise their reaction with the oil. At this point, your kitchen should be filled with a delightful nutty aroma.
• Stir in the pepper mix and continue frying before adding the pre-cooked rice. For this recipe, Nigerian rice works well due to its nutritional value and texture, but basmati
CHEF MONA
rice is also a good alternative. Mix thoroughly to combine the rice and sauce, then season with a portion of Maggi cubes (half the total amount to be used).
• Sprinkle in the bell peppers, carrots, and green beans, and stir-fry for about a minute. Add the crayfish and pepper soup seasoning, which brings a deep umami flavour to balance the salty taste built up so far. Stir and let them fry with the rice for another minute.
• Pour in the coconut milk, add the remaining Maggi cubes, and top with chopped spring onions. Cover the pot and let the dish cook gently.
• The rice is ready when you can smell the satisfying combination of nutty coconut and savoury goat meat—a harmonious and delicious mix that promises a flavorful meal!

1 Chicken Seasoning Cube
1/4 Chopped Green Pepper
1/4 Chopped Red Bell Pepper
1 Chopped Small Red Scotch Bonnet Pepper (Atarodo)
1 Chopped Piece Of Spring Onion
1 Egg
1/2 Cup Flour

• Suya Corn Fritters

• Whisk your egg separately and add to the bowl of corn. Gently stir in the flour until it forms a paste. Season with salt as necessary.
ABOUT AFROLEMS
• Stir in your chopped pieces of suya and set aside.
• Heat up your oil. With a spoon, scoop the corn paste into the oil and flatten it out in the oil to fry properly. Let it brown on both sides and serve with the spicy avocado paste.
•
• Spicy Avocado
• Mash the avocado until it forms a smooth paste and mix in the chilli flakes and salt. Serve with the corn fritters and enjoy!

9 REASONS TO WANDER WITH ABDUL
My name is Abdurrahman (though I go by Abdul), and I’m a travel content creator passionate about showcasing beautiful destinations around the world. I’ve visited 19 countries so far, and through my content, I strive to inspire others to explore and experience the uniqueness each place has to offer. Whether it’s capturing breathtaking landscapes, sharing cultural experiences, or uncovering hidden gems, I focus on creating visuals and stories that ignite curiosity and a sense of adventure.
My passion for travel and exploration started with a deep curiosity about places that often go unnoticed. There’s something magical about stepping into a new environment and discovering beauty beyond the obvious. Sharing those
discoveries and seeing how they resonate with others fuels my drive to keep exploring and creating. I believe every place has a story, and I enjoy being the bridge that connects people to those stories.
Outdoor experiences play a crucial role in promoting mental clarity, creativity, and overall well-being. They offer an escape from routine, allowing people to reconnect with themselves, others, and their environment. Beyond personal growth, outdoor adventures encourage cultural exchange, boost local economies, and inspire more conscious, sustainable travel. I find that spending time in nature or exploring new cities cultivates mindfulness and a greater appreciation for the world around us.
These nine (9) destinations on my bucket list, some I’ve experienced, and some I’m yet to, are perfect for outdoor adventures.
• Madagascar: Madagascar feels like stepping into another world. The landscapes are wild and diverse, and the wildlife is unlike anything I’ve seen elsewhere. Standing among the ancient baobab trees at sunset was one of my most surreal experiences.
• Nigeria: Nigeria is home, and no matter how far I travel, it keeps surprising me. There’s so much beauty and diversity within the country. One of my most unforgettable experiences was exploring the Yusufari Desert—standing atop those vast dunes, I felt like I had stumbled into a hidden wonder. Kano also left a deep impression with its rich history and cultural vibrance, while Abuja, with its mix of modern architecture and natural landscapes, always feels refreshing to return to.
• France: France is one of those places that never gets old. From the medieval charm of Saint-Malo to the rolling vineyards and ancient caves in Dordogne, every visit feels like discovering something new. I recently explored the French Alps, and it was incredible. The snow-capped peaks, the charming villages, and the breathtaking hikes made me appreciate the country’s natural beauty even more. Whether it’s the mountains or the countryside,
France always offers something special.
• Morocco: Morocco is a sensory overload in the best way possible. The colours, the markets, the deserts–every corner feels alive. Getting lost in the streets of Marrakech or spending a quiet evening in the Sahara is unforgettable.
• Montenegro: Montenegro caught me by surprise. It’s small but packed with charm – the kind of place that feels like a secret. The mountain views and medieval towns by the water make it one of the most peaceful and beautiful spots I’ve visited.
• Namibia: The landscapes in Namibia look unreal! The vast deserts, towering dunes, and the sense of endless space are things I can’t wait to experience.
• Iceland: I’ve been dreaming of Iceland for a while now –the waterfalls, glaciers, and the chance to see the northern lights. It feels like the true definition of adventure.
• Thailand: Thailand’s blend of vibrant cities, peaceful temples, and stunning beaches makes it a place I know I’ll love. It’s been on my list for too long.
• Peru: Machu Picchu is a big draw for me, but beyond that, Peru’s culture, mountains, and history make it one of those bucket list destinations I’m excited to explore.

The Great Outdoors: Top Nigerian cities where outdoor living thrives
There’s something magical about being outdoors – the fresh air, the open skies, and the sheer joy of connecting with nature or enjoying local vibes. Whether it’s a picnic, a hike, or a waterfront dinner, outdoor living offers something for everyone. Nigeria, with its diverse landscapes and vibrant cultures, is home to cities that make outdoor living an experience to remember. From buzzing urban spots to hidden gems in the North and East, here are 10 cities where outdoor enthusiasts (like you and me!) can thrive:
Lagos
Abuja’s green spaces and organised layout make it an outdoor lover’s dream. Start your day with a hike up Aso Rock, offering breathtaking views of the city, or enjoy a picnic at Millennium Park, the largest in Abuja. Jabi Lake is perfect for kayaking, boat rides, or lakeside dining. If you’re visiting in December, the Abuja Carnival brings the city to life with outdoor parades and cultural displays. Look out for beautiful handmade pottery and sculptures in local craft markets.
Enugu, the Coal City, is full of natural charm. Walk through the Ngwo Pine Forest, where caves and waterfalls make for a stunning backdrop. History meets nature at the Opi Lake Complex, a site dotted with relics from the Stone Age. If you visit in October, the New Yam Festival offers a vibrant outdoor celebration of food and culture. Abacha (African salad) and Nkwobi are the perfect local dishes to enjoy in the open air, and the nearby craft markets are filled with wooden carvings and traditional fabrics.
Lagos may be the city that never sleeps, but it knows how to unwind too. Outdoor hotspots like Lekki Conservation Centre, with its iconic canopy walkway, are perfect for nature walks. Love the beach? Head to Tarkwa Bay for serene vibes or Elegushi Beach for live music and food stands. For families, Fun Factory in Lekki offers outdoor play areas for kids. Don’t leave without grabbing suya from one of Lagos’ many street vendors or shopping for crafts at the Lekki Arts and Crafts Market.
Jos Abuja Enugu
Jos is like a cool breath of fresh air – literally. Known for its temperate climate, this city offers outdoor gems like the Shere Hills for hiking and the Jos Wildlife Park, where you can spot lions, baboons, and more. Families will enjoy the Assop Falls, a scenic spot for picnics and photos. Don’t leave without buying beautiful beaded jewellery or sampling pepper soup at an open-air restaurant.
Calabar
Outdoor living in Kano is an exploration of history and culture. Climb Dala Hill for panoramic views of the ancient city or visit the Gidan Makama Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Durbar Festival, held during Eid celebrations, features outdoor horse parades and colourful regalia. Don’t miss the markets for intricate leather goods and brass works. And the food? Kano’s streets come alive with roasted Kilishi and hearty bowls of Tuwo Shinkafa paired with Miyan Kuka (baobab leaf soup).
Bauchi
Clean streets, open spaces, and friendly vibes define Uyo. Visit Ibom Plaza for its fountains and local markets or spend a relaxing day at Ibeno Beach, Nigeria’s longest stretch of sand. Outdoor restaurants here serve some of the freshest seafood – think smoky grilled fish and peppery Afang soup. If you choose to explore the city in December, the Uyo Christmas Festival offers open-air concerts and fairs.
If you’re looking for a city where outdoor living blends seamlessly with culture, it’s Calabar. Marina Resort offers a mix of waterfront relaxation and historical tours, while Kwa Falls is perfect for a nature escape. Feeling adventurous? The Obudu Mountain Resort is just a few hours away, with cable cars, nature trails, and jawdropping views. In December, the Calabar Carnival transforms the city into Nigeria’s biggest outdoor street party. Take home handwoven baskets or hats from the local markets, and enjoy a bowl of Afang soup by the water.
Kano
Bauchi is where wildlife and outdoor living meet. The Yankari National Park is home to elephants, baboons, and Wikki Warm Spring – a natural hot spring perfect for a relaxing swim. Gashaka Gumti National Park, the largest in Nigeria, offers more secluded wildlife adventures. If you visit in April, the Bauchi Durbar is a cultural spectacle of music and dance. Look for handmade rugs or woven baskets in local markets, and enjoy Miyan Kuka or Tuwo under the stars.
Uyo
Gembu
For a laid-back outdoor experience, Yola has you covered. Take a boat ride along the Benue River or explore Gashaka Gumti National Park, where chimpanzees, leopards, and exotic birds roam freely. Yola is also home to Chappal Hendu, Nigeria’s tallest mountain. Outdoor dining in Yola includes Balangu (spicy barbecued meat) paired with Kunu (millet drink). During the dry season, don’t miss the vibrant Adamawa Cultural Festival, an open-air celebration of traditional music, dance, and crafts.
Tucked away in the Mambilla Plateau, Gembu is a hidden paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Rolling green hills, tea plantations, and the cool mountain air make this place unforgettable. Adventure seekers will love exploring Chappal Waddi, West Africa’s highest peak. For a cultural experience, visit during the Nwunyo Fishing Festival, where locals gather for an outdoor celebration of fishing, dance, and food. Gembu’s markets are filled with organic teas and fresh produce to take home.

SPOT REVIEW ESCAPE LOUNGE
Today’s review comes all the way from the ancient city of Benin. Known for its advanced artistic culture—think bronze (brass), iron, wood, and ivory castings—Benin is now carving its place as a culinary and experiential hub and Escape Lounge is a shining example of this transformation.
Beautifully located at 35, Ugbor Road, GRA, Benin City, Beautifully located at 35, Ugbor Road, GRA, Benin City, Escape Lounge is hard to miss. Its attractive exterior pulls you in, promising something special inside. The moment my date and I stepped into the compound, we were engulfed in an upscale vibe. Escape Lounge is a delightful fusion of a lounge, restaurant, and nightlife hub. It’s no surprise that it attracts both locals and visitors seeking premium dining and entertainment experiences.
Inside, the restaurant’s spaciousness immediately struck me. Despite not making a reservation, we were ushered to a comfortable seating area without fuss. Unlike many Lagos spots where space is often at a premium, Escape Lounge offers room to breathe. The decor was refined, and the variety of seating options—booth seating, cabaret-style arrangements, and bar stools—added to the versatility of the space.
The menu was a comforting blend of continental and African cuisine, offering something for everyone. It featured an enticing lineup of starters, salads, big bites, mains, grills, soups, platters, and pasta/noodle options. I kept things simple and ordered a burger with chips (not fries—the server explained they’re chunkier and seasoned differently). My date opted for Spaghetti Jollof with chicken strips from the pasta/ noodle section, though we were both puzzled as to why it
was categorised there. We were told to expect a 30-35-minute wait, but it felt a bit longer.
To pass the time, we explored the drinks menu, which is where Escape Lounge truly shines. Their curated selection of premium drinks was impressive: liqueurs, brandies, vodkas, whiskies, champagnes, tequilas, and a range of expertly crafted cocktails, mocktails, milkshakes, and smoothies. My date and I indulged our sweet tooth with a strawberrybanana smoothie, while I requested a custom mocktail from the barkeep. My drink was a vibrant burst of flavours—the grenadine, vanilla, orange, and blue curaçao came together beautifully, creating a rich, almost jewel-toned colour profile. My date loved his smoothie, noting how fresh and healthy the fruits tasted.
Finally, the food arrived, and it was time to feast. My burger and chips were familiar yet satisfying—classic comfort food. The cheese was slightly dry, but I blamed the Harmattan for that (lol). The Spaghetti Jollof came in a generously deep plate, and while the portion was good, it missed the mark slightly for my date. They were unaccustomed to Benin’s spicier scene. Also, the dish was served with spaghettini instead of the regular spaghetti as indicated on the menu, which lacked the firm texture we expected. However, I had a taste of the dish and noticed a minty flavor which I think was a fun undertone to the regular taste of the dish.
