Dear Friends of Lourdes, Our Gratitude Report is a chronicle of what our students, faculty, staff and volunteers have been able to accomplish this pas t year through the generosity of supporters. As a Catholic school, the majority of our funding comes through charitable gifts to our school and to our parishes. Your partnership has enabled Lourdes Central Catholic in its mission to promote the spiritual, academic, and social growth of its students. This is preparing them to play an active role in the Church, in thei r families and in society. During the 2019-2020 school year, despite the coronavirus pandemic that affected the school’s fourth quarter, we were able to accomplish great things. Our students broke records in academic excellence. Our students grew in their knowledge of our patroness, Our Lady of Lourdes, whose Feast Day we celebrated on February 11th. Our benefactors helped us secure safe and reliable transportation for our students. Our faculty and students adjusted to the abrupt transition of teaching remotely when the pandemic closed our campus in March. We grew in grace, glorifying our Lord and His goodness to us in the face of the changes we were undergoing. We have many things for which to be grateful! We hope you enjoy catching up with what is happening at Lourdes in this 2019-2020 Gratitude Report. Yours in Christ,

Fr. Jonathan Haschke Chief Administrative Officer

Please note: This issue of our Gratitude Report deals solely with the 2019—2020 fiscal year, which ended June 30, 2020. All gifts received after that date will appear in the 2020-2021 Gratitude Report. Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy and completeness of this report. Please accept our apologies for any errors or omissions and report them to the Advancement Office at 402-873-6154. 1

Supporting the Future at Lourdes Ways You Can Help LIFETIME GIVING Giving today helps fill the immediate needs of our school by providing income to cover day-to-day operating expenses. You may benefit from such gifts with a charitable deduction on your tax return. The most common method of making a gift is to contribute cash. Stocks, bonds, or mutual fund shares that have appreciated can have an impact on our school and also create an income tax reduction for you based on their current value. Because there is no capital gains tax when you make the gift, you double tax savings on shares you’ve held for over a year. Some ways you can give include:    

Cash Securities Gifts of Grain Life Insurance

LEGACY GIVING—PLANNED GIFTS

A charitable bequest is one of the simplest ways to provide continuing support for Lourdes Central Catholic. Lourdes has established the Legacy Society to give family and friends of our school an opportunity to demonstrate their support through planned giving. Legacy Society members are donors who have made a commitment to Lourdes as part of their own legacy by including us in their estate planning. Planned giving is the process of carefully selecting the best method and asset for making a charitable gift. Planned gifts can be made in the following ways:  Life Insurance  Bequests by will or living trust  Charitable Gift Annuities  Beneficiary benefits from IRA’s, pensions, or financial accounts  Charitable Remainder Trusts  Charitable Lead Trusts Please contact Brooke Chaney at brooke-chaney@cdolinc.net for more information on how you can become a donor or Legacy Society member.

The William ("Bill") and Betty Davis family contributed to the Annual Appeal to honor the memory of Betty Davis, who passed away on January 30, 2020. Betty was always a cheerleader for Lourdes, and served as a room mother, substitute teacher, and volunteer speech coach during the years her children attended Lourdes. Before and beyond those years, both Betty & Bill enjoyed contributing to the Lourdes community, from Bill's role on the school board in the 1960s, participating in the early Lourdes Events, attending the musicals, supporting Academic Decathlon--Lourdes has always been important to the Davis Family. Betty especially enjoyed attending the Lourdes musicals, particularly in her last years when they were staged in the new Wirth Auditorium.

A Legacy of Giving On November 19, 2019, the newly renovated Library and Media Center was dedicated in memory of Thomas and Dorothy (Heng) ‘61 Funke. Tom, an honorary alumni, and Dorothy were devoted members of our Lourdes family and shared their gifts generously with our alumni and school. Dorothy worked at Lourdes from 1991-2018 and served the school in various ways including alumni coordinator and school librarian. The renovation of the library was made possible through memorial gifts, donations from the Funke family, and through the 2019 Lourdes Event Special Project. Tom and Dorothy were an integral part of our Lourdes Family. The renovation of the library/media center is a continuation of their impact at Lourdes Central Catholic School. The library was painted and modifications were made to remove a ceiling divider. New bookshelves, carpet, desks, tables, chairs, and a workspace for our librarian, Mrs. Kim Esser, were purchased and installed. Several “lounge” chairs were also added for students to read or study.
