LPAS served as the Master Architect and Landscape Architect for Folsom Lake College from 1989 through 2013 and recently completed a master plan update in 2019 to help guide future development of buildings and the landscape of the 151-acre campus. Beginning with the original master plan, LPAS designed the entire campus through 2013, spanning over a dozen projects including the $43.2 million Harris Center for the Arts, which is considered the crown jewel of the California Community College system.

LAS POSITAS COLLEGE BUILDING 2100 ACADEMIC SUPPORT, FACULTY OFFICE, AND LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER

Currently in DSA Review, this Academic Support, Faculty Office and Learning Resource Center includes classrooms, Math Learning Center, Math Emporium, Computer Studies, English Center, Tutoring Center, makers spaces and open computer labs for general student use. The project renovates and expands library functions including reference desk, study areas, computer lab, expanded staff offices and library operational support spaces. The project also provides faculty offices for 80 faculty, Dean’s suite and support spaces. Extensive shared gathering spaces, conference rooms, meeting rooms and small study rooms are provided.

COSUMNES RIVER COLLEGE COLLEGE CENTER EXPANSION

The recently completed College Center creates a one-stop experience for students that provides Student Services, Administration, Counseling, Group Counseling, Assessment Center, e-services, Career Center and Transfer Center. The two-story building is a seamless addition to the existing cafeteria, bookstore and Administration building creating a campus destination. Where the buildings meet, a tall gathering space has been created featuring bleacher seating, open lounge area and a study balcony. Abundant natural light, large video screens, power and data makes this the social and cultural heart of the campus.

This new physical education building features a spectator gymnasium with full competition basketball court and space for 1,100 seats in retractable bleachers. The facility includes a 5,800 square foot fitness center, four large multi-purpose classrooms, training and equipment rooms, a faculty suite with a Dean’s Office, plus additional offices and spaces that support the campus’ athletic programs and physical education curriculum. Tilt-up construction was chosen to provide cost-effective design.

The Ann E. Pitzer Center is a classroom and recital hall facility designed specifically to meet the needs of the music department and the community as a venue for the study and performance of music. At the heart of the building is a 399-seat classroom and performance venue with variable acoustics that has been designed to the highest standards of acoustical architecture. A spacious lobby welcomes students and patrons and can accommodate performances and events.

A central meeting place for students, faculty, and the community, it is a destination that connects the campus’ network of exterior spaces, creating a focal point for student activity. The Center includes the International Center, student lounge and activity space, dining and food services, Campus Meeting Center and lecture space, classrooms, Campus Life & Government Center, Campus Community and Diversity Resource Center, e-services computer lab, faculty offices and outdoor activities.

UC DAVIS CENTRAL CAGE WASH FACILITY

This highly technical project for the UCD School of Medicine is an integral part of the Health Science District on the UC Davis campus. The cage washing facility plays a critical role in the University’s research mission and is operated by Teaching and Research Animal Care Services (TRACS). The project’s full equipment and space utilization meets AAALAC compliance, provides optimization of campus utilities, and allows for future expansion while maintaining its day-to-day operations. The LRC houses programs including the library, College Success Center, distance learning, broadcasting studio, editing booths and campus newspaper. Scope included a seismic upgrade, upgrades of interior and exterior finishes, roof replacement, structural/seismic evaluation, mechanical and electrical systems upgrades, A/V, data, security and fire/lifesafety systems upgrade, ADA accessibility upgrades, landscape and hardscape design, and acoustical analysis. SOLANO COMMUNITY COLLEGE THEATER RENOVATION AND ADDITION

The Music and Theater Arts program lived in a building that suffered from significant health, safety, seismic, accessibility, and non-compliance code issues. This project provided a complete reconfiguration of the main theater that greatly improved sight lines and accessibility. Other renovated spaces included theater and dance studios, classrooms, lobby and student support spaces. This is the first project on the campus that was allowed to break from the original campus architecture designed in the 1950s.

This renovation of an existing 1970s era gymnasium included removing the existing bleachers and replacing them with new bleachers, repairing and refinishing the existing hardwood floor, and coordinating with the District’s Prop 39 consultant on replacing the existing lighting. New scoreboards, shot clocks, court striping were installed, along with new interior finishes, custom graphics and acoustical wall panels.

SANTA ROSA JUNIOR COLLEGE DOYLE LIBRARY AND MAHONEY LIBRARY RENOVATIONS The renovations of libraries on two campuses transformed underutilized reference materials and periodical spaces into a collaborative learning atmosphere with flexible spaces to encourage engagement. With a limited budget and tight schedule, LPAS worked closely with campus librarians, staff, and a library consultant to develop new floor plans and furniture layouts to support the current approach to learning centers and library resources.

LAKE TAHOE COMMUNITY COLLEGE RENOVATIONS FOR EFFICIENCY This renovation and modernization project will address several key areas that will increase efficiency, improve functionality and enhance services to students. Spaces to be renovated include classrooms, science labs, lab services, faculty offices, study rooms, meeting rooms, computer help desk and storage areas. Areas for student gathering and collaboration have been integrated into the design of circulation corridors and nodes that will add to the culture and social character of the campus.

CONTRA COSTA COMMUNITY COLLEGE & LOS MEDANOS COMMUNITY COLLEGE PUBLIC SAFETY CENTERS LPAS designed two new identical public safety centers for the Contra Costa Community College and Los Medanos College campuses. The buildings are designed to have a street presence with a safe and inviting feel for the students and faculty. COLLEGE OF MARIN ORGANIC FARM & GARDEN CLASSROOMS AND DEMONSTRATION KITCHEN The Indian Valley Organic Farm & Garden is a successful educational farm promoting local food systems and teaching sustainable agricultural practices. Spacious, open classrooms accommodate academic study, practical hands-on experience and large group gatherings, separated by foldable wall partitions that allow space to be expanded or downsized for a variety of activities and instructional methods. Upgraded windows fill the buildings with natural light and outdoor views.

UNIVERSITY OF THE PACIFIC OWEN HALL MUSIC CENTER RENOVATION The renovation of Owen Hall Music Center provides significant cosmetic improvements to the interior of the building including new paint, lighting and carpet, converting the spaces into flexible classrooms, rehearsal spaces, faculty offices, lobby/lounge and restrooms. LPAS provided design options to meet the project goals of bringing the project up to code. LPAS was consequently awarded the contract to provide the design and construction documents. This project is located in Sacramento at the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers. The six-story, 157,000 square foot building provides secured office and support spaces for approximately 630 Lottery staff and operations. The building includes a 400-seat multi-use pavilion with state-of-the-art A/V systems, a 5,000 square foot data center, wellness center, public plazas with water features, central utility plant, retail lease space and a vegetated green roof.

LPAS designed the 12-story 2020 Gateway tower and alsoalso provided programming, interior design and space planning services on two improvement projects in 2020 Gateway for the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) and the California Department of Housing & Community Development (HCD). Taking advantage of its prominent location adjacent to Interstate 5, the 2020 Gateway serves as a gateway to Downtown Sacramento from the International Airport. The building was designed to reduce operational costs, enhance occupant comfort, health, and productivity, and preserve natural resources. Finishes for the lobby were specifically selected to capture the true essence of a modern high-rise.

The new headquarters for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) is a campus of secure facilities consolidating 1,400 employees. LPAS designed the entire pedestrian-oriented campus which features connectivity between five buildings totaling over 420,000 square feet. Designed to meet the needs of CDCR, the privately developed project includes three new LEED Gold certified buildings ranging from 3 to 4 stories.

This new facility relocates the current facility to a 5.4 acre lot bound by Pioneer Trail Road, Donner Pass Road and Highway 80 to the south. The new facility is built to the Essential Service Act (ESA) standards and includes offices, an auto service center, carports, radio vault building, property storage building, vehicle fueling area, waste storage building, radio tower and generator yard.

Located on two parcels on Shattuck Avenue, this market rate mid-rise apartment project is a major adaptive reuse of an existing 1-story 1920s era concrete auto dealership. The project includes four 3-story townhomes. Within the footprint of the existing auto dealership, LPAS designed 2 levels of below-grade parking, 2 levels of above-grade parking and 4 levels of new wood frame apartment building above the roof line of the existing building.

Currently completing construction, this transit-oriented mid-rise development is located across the street from Snow Park and Lake Merritt. Designed to complement future developments within a few blocks, the contemporary design and materials features metal composite panels accentuated by recessed and colorful balconies. The most prominent corner is celebrated by a rooftop deck that provides a relief in the building massing and culminates with a subtle, gradual angle that projects at the intersection. Community amenities include two courtyards, a fitness facility, co-working and a maker’s space.
