PASSIVE HOUSE PRINCIPLES

Simple

Passive House standards promote comfortable, high quality, and highly efficient buildings to reduce energy use in the building sector, and reflect the client’s commitment towards environmental stewardship.

Breaking ground in late Spring of 2021, Parkview is designed with an outdoor courtyard and amenity space, while also providing residents with stunning views of downtown, mountains, wooded hillsides, and the Willamette River.

Terwilliger Plaza Parkview, a Senior Living high rise in Portland, Oregon, was sustainably-designed with Passive House principles and is projected to use 50% less energy than current energy compliant buildings.

PROJECT MISSION

THERMAL BRIDGE-FREE DETAILING reduces heat transfer between exterior and interior spaces, with higher quality window frames and wall framing strategies.

RESILIENCY improves building resiliency with onsite solar panels.

GREEN ROOF protects the roof membrane, extending the life of the roof, increases the roof’s insulation qualities, and improves stormwater management.

HEAT RECOVERY VENTILATION supplies 100% fresh air ventilation with a 90% efficient energy recovery system.

BUILDING ENVELOPE

A super-insulated building envelope includes R-34 wall insulation and R-60 roof insulation.

AIR TIGHT CONSTRUCTION

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Triple glazing, multi-point latching, insulated frames, and sunshades are included in high-performance windows and door systems.

HIGH PERFORMANCE OPENINGS

LED lighting, high-efficiency appliances, heat pump furnaces, and heat pump dryers reduce energy use without sacrificing comfort and amenities.

increases energy savings, creates quieter spaces, and minimizes drafts.

ABOUT PASSIVE HOUSE

Developed in cooperation with Building Science Corporation, under a US Department of Energy (DOE) grant, the PHIUS+ 2015 standard targeted the sweet spot between investment in conservation and payback, guiding designers to achieve the most comfortable, energy efficient and cost-effective building https://www.phius.org/what-is-passive-building/passive-house-principlespossible.
