Director’s Notes
I would like you to know that I was supposed to co-direct this play with my mentor and friend of 25 years, Roland B. Gomez. However, it wasn’t to be, because Roland was called to take his final curtain call before we started with auditions. So in sorrow mixed with tempered joy, I make my directing debut at the Little Theatre of Alexandria with A Party to Murder. I’m surrounded by and supported by some great producers, two fantastic and experienced stage managers and a production and design crew second to none—not to mention a stellar cast. This play by Marcia Kash and Douglas E. Hughes pays great homage to the most influential mystery writer, Agatha Christie. Several references to her most famous plays are woven into the dialogue. How many can you recognize? This production has been a labor of love for me, and I dedicate each performance to the memory of Roland B. Gomez. Now sit back, if you dare, and keep watching and waiting for each twist and turn as this play heightens and hopefully frightens your senses. Please do not reveal the ending to future audience attendees. I hope you have a wonderful Halloween!
Jim Howard DirectorThe cast and crew dedicate these performances to Roland B. Gomez. He has been an inspiration, teacher, and mentor who found the talents hidden inside actors and his handpicked designers and brought forth their best.
Thank you, Roland!

Meet the Cast
(in alphabetical order)
Eva Seville Coll (O’Karma/Henri) is absolutely thrilled to be making her LTA debut in A Party to Murder! Eva is also a regular cast member of the Murder Mystery Co. Baltimore Troupe and performs with various improv groups. She performed in many college theater productions, including Spring Awakening, The Wild Duck, The Vagina Monologues and Hay Fever, among others, at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. A big, huge thank you to her amazing, loving and incredibly supportive family!
Danielle Comer (Evelyn/McKenzie) is thrilled to be making her LTA debut in A Party to Murder. She graduated this year from James Madison University with a bachelor of arts and teaching licensure in theater and English. Some favorite past roles include Emily Webb in Our Town and the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Bishop Ireton High School). Lastly, she would like to thank her parents and boyfriend for their constant love and support. Congratulations to everyone involved in the show!
John Henderson (Konrad/Charles) is excited to return to LTA for A Party to Murder after appearing here as William Gillette/Sherlock Holmes in The Game’s Afoot last year and as Inspector Hubbard in Dial ‘M’ for Murder in 2013. More recently, he has appeared with the St. Mark’s Players as George Hay in Moon Over Buffalo and Juror 9 in Twelve Angry Jurors. In a previous lifetime, he appeared in over 15 productions with the St. Bart’s Players in New York City.
Damian John Legacy (Ernie/Willy) is excited to be making his LTA debut in this production of A Party to Murder. He is returning to the stage after a short time away. Past roles include Horton the Elephant in Seussical the Musical, Horace Vandergelder in Hello, Dolly!, Gaston in Beauty and the Beast and Speed in The Odd Couple (Mount Anthony Union High School). For Matthew and my family, especially those who can’t travel to see this production.
James McDaniel (Rev. Merryweather/Elwood) has performed in community theater for many years and with several theater groups in the area. During the day, he is an instructional designer for Defense Acquisition University. He lives with Tux, the Wonder Cat; Sport, the Terror; and his wife, Sherman.
Laura Peterson (Mrs. McKnight/Valerie) is pleased to be returning to LTA after many years. She first appeared here as Gwendolyn in The Importance of Being Earnest. Other favorite roles include Myra in Deathtrap (MCP), Lorraine in The Man Who Came to Dinner (TAP), Margot in Dial ‘M’ for Murder (MCP), Mina in Count Dracula (CAST) and Mollie in The Mousetrap (GFP). In her “real life,” she works as a paralegal for the federal government.
Meet the Crew (in
alphabetical order)
Kirstin Apker (Co-Assistant Stage Manager) has filled numerous technical roles at LTA, including artistic painter (Heaven Can Wait), props designer (Laughing Stock), and, most recently, set decorator (Steel Magnolias). She has also appeared onstage in To Kill a Mockingbird, and she serves as the coordinator of the theater’s Floodlight newsletter. Kirstin is grateful to be part of this tribute to Roland Gomez, the first director she worked with both onstage and off, after she moved to the DMV.
Emma Baskir (Co-Makeup Design) is so grateful to be working behind the scenes on another LTA show. When not at LTA, she works behind the scenes doing makeup for theater and film. She would like to thank her parents for their love and support and wants to dedicate this wonderful show to Roland Branford Gomez.
Lori Bonnette (Co-Makeup Design) is so excited to co-design makeup for A Party to Murder with Emma Baskir. This is her fourth production with LTA. Her other credits at LTA are To Kill a Mockingbird (2016) and A Christmas Carol (2014, 2015). She is so happy to be working with the wonderful director, producers, cast, and crew. Roland will definitely be with us all in spirit.
Luana Bossolo (Set Painting Coordinator) has been painting sets at LTA for six years. She won the 2013 LTA Award for Excellence in Set Painting for TheFull Monty. She was nominated for Excellence in Set Painting for the 2014 production of Spamalot and the 2016 production of To Kill a Mockingbird. Luana has a sneaky habit of incorporating a cat into all her sets, to the chagrin of most set designers and directors.
Sherry Clarke (Co-Stage Manager) Sherry’s first “dabbling in the arts” was with the typical neighborhood plays as a child, when she was usually able to bully the others into letting her play the lead. Fast forwarding to later years, she performed in various plays and musicals while in school and began a 13-year career as a vocalist based out of Seattle, traveling north to Alaska (quite literally). Eventually, she settled in Alexandria, where she discovered a second home at LTA and began to explore her theatrical roots once again. Sherry is very excited to be a part of this production and to be working with such a talented cast and crew!
David Correia (Sound Design) is grateful to Roland Gomez, who wanted him to do the sound design on the plays he directed, and David is happy to work on this show in his memory. This year, David did the sound design for West Side Story. Last summer, David did sound for LTA’s production of In the Heights and earlier for Spamalot (2014 WATCH nomination for sound design in a musical). Other recent sound designs include Fool for Love and Blues for an Alabama Sky (PCP); The MiracleWorker, Cheaper by the Dozen and Pride and Prejudice (ACCT); and LTA’s production of Proof (2014 WATCH nomination for sound design in a play).
Meet the Crew
Eileen Doherty (Co-Assistant Stage Manager) is excited to be working with the talented A Party to Murder cast and crew. She can usually be found somewhere behind the scenes on sound, lights, props, ASMing, audition desk, will-call window or even co-producing (Widdershins and Cantorial with Jamie Blake). Thanks to Kerry for starting me here. Hope J.J. and Suzanne are still smiling down on LTA.
John Downing (Set Design/Co-Set Construction) designed his first show 27 years ago. It was The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 (not a musical) at LTA, one of many plays in the Ten Little Indians subgenre. Other designs for this type of play include Something’s Afoot (a musical) at LTA, And Then There Were None at ACCT, and this current show. John works as a flight dynamics engineer at NASA. In his spare time, he enjoys APBA baseball, Euro-gaming, model battleships, “Doctor Who,” airplane-free traveling and, of course, theater.
Susan Driscoll (Set Decoration) operates a local furniture consignment and home staging business and always has great furnishings and props to work with. In 2014, Susan had her first involvement with LTA doing A Christmas Carol and God of Carnage. That year she also worked on her first production at ACCT: set dressing for Anne of Green Gables. Additionally at ACCT, she set dressed Life With Father (WATCH nomination), Murder on the Nile and The Miracle Worker
Margaret Evans-Joyce (Co-Stage Manager) has produced about a dozen productions and stage managed almost twice that many. She served four years as LTA’s President and is currently the Governor of Production. She recently received the Outstanding Service to LTA Award and shared the award for the 2014 Outstanding Production of the Year for Avenue Q. She is an adjunct professor at Howard University in the area of speech and language pathology. Thanks for everything, Roland!
Bill Glikbarg (Co-Set Construction) has designed sets for many theater groups in the Northern Virginia area. He especially liked co-designing with John Downing for Roland Gomez at LTA. Last year, John and Bill won the WATCH Award for Set Design of Twentieth Century (LTA) for Roland.
Jim Howard (Director) is honored to be directing his first show at LTA. He has appeared in several productions and has recently produced several shows. He has been involved in stage, television and movies for the past 50 years, beginning in high school. He directed the award-winning one-act play Etched in Stone (Castaways). His other directing credits include Heaven Can Wait, Moon Over Buffalo, Kindertransport, The Boys Next Door, The Visit and Blue Moon. Thank you, LTA, for giving me the opportunity to direct A Party to Murder.

Meet the Crew (continued)
JK Lighting Designs, Jeffrey Scott Auerbach and Kimberly Crago (Lighting Designers) Jeff and Kimberly are pleased to debut their lighting talent at Little Theatre of Alexandria’s production of A Party to Murder. This recently formed lighting company concentrates its talents on local community theater companies such as LTA, ACCT and TAP. They enjoy the challenges of lighting new spaces as well. They have just completed the production of Fools with ACCT, and they will be working on these upcoming productions: A Christmas Carol (LTA), Elf Jr. (ACCT) and Red, White, and Tuna (LTA). They would like to send their love to Steve, Ryan, David, Katie and Dylan. Now, sit back and enjoy A Party to Murder
Adrienne Kammer (Co-Set Painting) is delighted to be joining the Little Theatre of Alexandria. Her recent credits are working with MCP on Calendar Girls and 1776. She began scenic painting while living in Belgium and working with NATO’s S.H.A.P.E. Players, where she received a Topper award for the scenery of Man of La Mancha and the U.S. Army Festival Award for painting and properties for the Adventures of Pinocchio. When she isn’t painting theater sets, she takes commissions for murals and other artistic endeavors.
Robert S. Kraus (Co-Producer) is very excited, humbled and honored to be producing once again at LTA and working with Jim, Alan and David. Robert has appeared both on and off stage in many, many capacities at various area theaters. Recent offstage producing appearances at LTA include co-producer of To Kill a Mockingbird, Boeing Boeing, Twentieth Century, All The King’s Women, Oliver!, The Secret Garden, The Sunshine Boys, The Gin Game and The Ritz. Onstage appearances at LTA include the Paper Hanger in Auntie Mame, Ancient Man in The Teahouse of the August Moon and a tourist in Lettice and Lovage.
David McCallum (Associate Producer) is thankful for the introduction to the LTA family by Roland Gomez. Roland is credited with getting David involved in theater again for the first time since high school. In the last few years, he has worked on six shows and several Education Showcases with Roland at LTA and ACCT in various capacities, including onstage, when a cast member could not make a performance. David will always be grateful for his dear friend Roland. He is delighted to a part of A Party to Murder with Jim’s direction and the stellar cast and crew.
Michael Page (Stage Combat Choreographer) is a Society of American Fight Directors certified actor combatant and studied stage combat at Christopher Newport University, where he received a B.A. in theater studies with a minor in dance. He most recently was the stage combat choreographer for LTA’s To Kill a Mockingbird. He has done stage combat choreography for ACCT’s The Miracle Worker (WATCH Nomination), Man of La Mancha and The Trials of Robin Hood. He also contributed the fight choreography for the 2014 D.C. Fringe Festival production of About a Girl.

Jean Schlichting and Kit Sibley (Co-Costume Design) learned a lot about costuming from Roland Gomez over their years working with him in Northern Virginia theaters. Their LTA Costume Design Awards include Hairspray (also a WATCH Award winner), 1776, Into the Woods, Ragtime, The Full Monty and The Rocky Horror Show. They costumed LTA’s recent production of West Side Story and are nominated for this year’s award as well. They miss Roland’s support and friendship, although he will always be with them at LTA.
Rebecca Sheehy (Co-Assistant Stage Manager) is delighted to be collaborating with the wonderful cast and crew of A Party to Murder. Her recent LTA projects include co-properties design for In the Heights, The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, To Kill a Mockingbird and West Side Story. She also recently co-produced The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). She thanks her family and friends and all the dedicated volunteers who make LTA performances so much fun. Enjoy the show.
Art Snow (Special Effects) is finding special effects especially challenging in A Party to Murder. It is a pleasure to be working with Jim Howard, the producers, cast and rest of the crew on this special show dedicated to Roland Gomez’s memory. Roland always knew how to inject fun into working on these shows, and a show of this character reflects his legacy so nicely.
Margaret Snow (Wardrobe) was a wardrobe mistress for many shows that Roland Gomez directed, and his presence is still present, particularly in A Party to Murder. With him, one always had to expect the unexpected, and the director, producers, cast and crew are wonderfully injecting this theme into this show. It is a good memory for many good reasons.
Marg Soroos (Master Electrician) has been active in community theater for many years. She has kept herself busy stage managing productions at LTA and ACCT as well as being master electrician at both theaters. LTA productions include Shenandoah, Das Barbeqü, The Who’s Tommy, Footloose, Gross Indecency, Plaid Tidings, Oliver!, [title of show], The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, The Full Monty, Ragtime,In the Heights, The History Boys and Saturday, Sunday, Monday. Marg is now retired from her day job and has taken up traveling when not at the theater.
Carol Strachan (Props Design) has been an LTA usher for many years. In addition, Carol has appeared here in Blithe Spirit, Lettice and Lovage, It Runs in the Family, Lady Windermere’s Fan, Pack of Lies, and walk-ons in Heaven Can Wait and Twentieth Century. This year she has appeared on stage in Calendar Girls and Fawlty Towers (BP) and Amadeus (PPF). Carol has also produced The History Boys (DS) and Unnecessary Farce (MCP).

Mona Wargo (Co-Set Painting) is excited to be working with LTA. Although it’s her first time on crew for LTA, she was a longtime set painter for Dominion Stage. She painted such shows as The Pirates of Penzance, Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up? and The Boys Next Door, for which she was nominated for an ACT Award. She also painted Prelude to a Kiss for Foundry Theater.
Alan K. Wray (Co-Producer) is excited to be working with Jim Howard and the fabulous cast and crew. He has co-produced All the King’s Women with Robert and Caught in the Net with Dick Schwab. He has co-produced several shows for PCP, including The Drawer Boy and The Curious Savage, his first co-production with Robert. Often you will find Alan doing sound design. His first area sound design was for ACCT’s Arsenic and Old Lace, directed by Roland Gomez. With Run for Your Wife, Roland brought Alan to LTA for sound design. The Gin Game, his second show with Roland, brought his first LTA Award for Outstanding Sound Design. It’s been an incredible journey ever since—Roland, this show’s for you!
Russell Wyland (Rigging) has been a member of LTA for 25 years and has served the theater in many capacities, including chairman of the Sound Department, head of the Selection Committee, and three years as President. Russ has served seven years as the Governor for Production and has received myriad awards through the years.

The Council of the Little Theatre of Alexandria is a support group of interested and dedicated people who support the theatre with special contributions. Additionally, the Council has three social events per year, provides for the winter holiday decorations for the theatre, and maintains the Council Memorial Garden. The Council was organized in 1961 and presently has about 80 members, most of whom are long-term and wellestablished LTA members. Past contributions include: a new range for the Council Green Room of LTA, folding chairs and tables throughout the theatre, brass plates for the new theatre seats, new draperies in the Council Room, the computerized box office system, several grand drapes over the years, and many varied technical enhancements. Contributions to LTA from the Council have exceeded $200,000 and we gratefully accept donations from friends and members to assist in our support of LTA. We welcome new members and if you would like to become a member of the Council please feel free to contact the theatre or any of the Council officers. We are very pleased and honored to be a part of the Alexandria artistic community and are proud to be supporting one of the best community theatres in America today.
