book and lyrics by Eric Idle music by Eric Idle and John du Prez directed by Wade Corder musical direction by Paul Nasto choreography by Grace Machanic produced by Rachel Alberts, Bobbie Herbst and Russell Wyland
Williams will transport you to hot, steamy New Orleans, just after World War II. An electrifying battle of wills ignites between Southern belle and fading beauty Blanche DuBois and her working class brother-in-law, Stanley Kowalski. Friction continues to escalate when Blanche witnesses the turmoil of her sister’s marriage to Stanley. This classic and tragic play grapples with the deepest, most persistent challenges of our never-ending quest for connection: love and desire, sex and violence, loss and loneliness. This play contains adult themes. Director’s Notes
Those first strains of music and beautiful words “You’re doing fine Oklahoma;” wait, this is something completely different. It’s Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail, now with music and showgirls.
We’ve been working on Spamalot since January of 2013. As I write, rehearsals have shifted into high gear. Everywhere in the building people are singing and dancing, building sets, creating props, sewing costumes, combing out wigs, designing sound and light cues. The number of people volunteering their time and talent to bring this musical to you is astounding.
It’s Community. Friendship, empowerment, creation, and guaranteed laughter; what could be better?
Many thanks to the LTA Board for trusting me with this production. And the incredible teams of stage managers, producers, designers, builders, and crew who help unite us all, thank you. In particular, I’d like to thank Grace Machanic, choreographer, Paul Nasto, music director, and Kevin Lane, costume and set design for taking this journey with me. And to my wonderful cast, it’s an honor to serve as your director.
“When life seems jolly rotten, there’s something you’ve forgotten and that’s to laugh and dance and sing.” And it’s always better to do it at LTA.
Enjoy the show!
Wade Corder

Meet the Cast
(in alphabetical order)
Stephanie Gaia Chu (Ensemble, Laker Girl, Minstrel) is excited to return to LTA after playing Christmas Eve in Avenue Q. A graduate of George Mason University’s theater program, she has worked on more than 50 dance and theater productions, receiving WATCH nominations as lighting designer and as supporting actress. Other recent favorite performances include TAT’s Spelling Bee (Marcy Park) and Legally Blonde (Pilar). In her real life, she consults with dentists and other medical and small-business owners on marketing and business efficiency and is pursuing her master’s in marketing from Johns Hopkins University. She would like to thank her family and friends for their constant support.
Carla Crawford (Ensemble, Laker Girl) is beyond thrilled to be back at LTA, where she played Mrs. Fezziwig in Scrooge, The Musical. Much love to her husband, Tom, and to her children, Trice, Grace and Witt, for making every day the “bright side of life.” She also gives a big “Whoop! Whoop!” to her dear friends. Carla has never eaten Spam but plans to real soon.
Graham Dickerson (Ensemble) could not be more thrilled to be a part of such a swell bunch of cast mates, as well as being a part of such a hilarious musical like Spamalot. This is Graham’s first onstage play in a long time— since high school, in fact. He has been a part of shows such as Romeo and Juliet;AMidsummer Night’s Dream; and Bye, Bye, Birdie and myriad student-directed films. He would like to thank his parental units for their support of his obsession, as well as all of his friends who have helped him on his own quest for the proverbial grail (the “cheese” factor is off the scale at this point). Thank you and enjoy the show!! Amenders assemble!
Katie Doyle (Ensemble, Laker Girl) is thrilled to be in her second production at LTA. She works as a preschool special education teacher in Arlington County. Previous roles include Gloria in Boeing Boeing (LTA), Lola in Damn Yankees (Gonzalo Dramatic Association), Wendy Jo in Footloose (Gonzalo Dramatic Association) and Chorus in Cinderella (Play On). Thanks to friends and family, especially to Mom and Dad for meeting at LTA and for all the puppy sitting.
Christy Fischer (Ensemble, Laker Girl) is thrilled to be performing this summer in Spamalot with LTA. She is a rising junior musical theater major at James Madison University. At JMU, Christy was recently seen in the world premiere production of Our Glorious Cause and will appear this fall in JMU’s production of Gone Missing. Other theatrical credits include Anita in West Side Story and Vivienne in Legally Blonde. She’d like to thank her family and friends for all their support.

Austin Fodrie (Video/Graphics) comes to LTA from Boone, North Carolina, after graduating from Appalachian State University with a bachelor of science in business administration with a major in computer information systems. He has volunteered at LTA and Mount Vernon Community Children’s Theater. He works at Burgundy Farm Country Day School as a technology support and integration specialist.
Bobbie Herbst (Co-Producer)co-produced LTA’s TheSecret Garden, A Christmas Carol, Company, Rabbit Hole, Sweeney Todd, 33 Variations (2013 LTA Award winner for Production of the Year)and Ragtime and was assistant producer for Oliver!,Gypsy and Scrooge, The Musical. She has designed or co-designed props, worked wardrobe and box office, painted sets and even co-designed costumes once! Bobbie received LTA’s Most Outstanding New Member Award, Outstanding Service to LTA Award and Award for Excellence in Producing (with Rachel Alberts and Robert Kraus). It is a pleasure and honor to work with Wade, Paul, Grace, Russell and Rachel and with such an amazing and talented cast, crew and musicians, who all have her admiration and respect. Love and hugs to M, C and E.
Jim Hutzler (Co-Set Construction) has enjoyed working on many LTA productions in stage management, carpentry and set painting under the direction of his wife, Mary. Thanks go to the producers and all of those who give their time and talent to make LTA the special place that it is.

Meet the Crew (continued)
Mary Hutzler (Set Decoration) took a step beyond her accustomed role as set painter to that of set dresser for this production. Being a longtime Monty Python fan, she asked herself, “How could working with this crew and cast on this show not be fun?” And the answer was, it was lots of fun! Indeed, it was a quest, searching for just the right shade of pink or the perfect object for the set. Mary has painted sets at LTA and ACCT. In 2005 and 2012, her work for It Runs in the Family and Heaven Can Wait, respectively, won the LTA Pearl Award for Excellence in Set Painting. She was nominated for WATCH Awards for It Runs in the Family, Move Over, Mrs. Markham and Heaven Can Wait. Mary is an intrepid mentor, and many of the people she has introduced into the backstage adventure are now as deeply immersed as she.
Eric Idle (Book, Lyrics and Music) has multi-hyphenated his way through life, from being a writer and actor in the legendary “Monty Python” TV series and movies, to the creator and director of “The Rutles.” He has appeared onstage singing rude songs with John Du Prez at Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl as well as performing in two highly successful tours, “Eric Idle Exploits Monty Python” (2000) and “The Greedy Bastard Tour” (2003), for which they journeyed 15,000 miles across North America in a bus. His “Greedy Bastard Diary” of that tour is available from Harper Collins. Their latest work, a comic oratorio called Not the Messiah, will be performed shortly in Toronto. His play Pass the Butler ran for five months in London’s West End; he has written two novels, “Hello, Sailor” and “The Road to Mars”; a children’s book, “The Quite Remarkable Adventures of the Owl and the Pussycat, A Bedtime Companion”; and “The Rutland Dirty Weekend Book.” Spamalot has already won him a Tony, a Grammy and the respect of his wife and children. This is his LTA debut.
Joan A.S. Lada (Co-Stage Manager) is happy to return to LTA as a member of the stage management team. Favorite SM gigs include Avenue Q, 33 Variations, Chicago,Into the Woods, 1776, Footloose, The Philadelphia Story and Tommy (LTA); Next to Normal (MCP); The Wild Party; RCP’s Seussical, The Secret Garden and A Chorus Line (DS);A Chorus Line, Nine and Kiss Me, Kate (TAP); TheEccentricities of a Nightingale (TACT);The Full Monty and Next Stop( RMT); and Into the Woods, Falsettos, Side Show and Love! Valour! Compassion! (ESP). Love to Stephen, Erin, Kevin, Jess, Allie, Justin and Jolene. As always, love and thanks to my parents.
Steve Lada (Stage Combat Choreography/Co-Assistant Stage Manager) is working for the third time as an ASM for Joan, and he says, “It’s so easy, I just do what I’m told, and I have a lot of experience at that.” A founding member of the Noble Blades stage combat troupe, he has performed at the Maryland Renaissance Festival and in the Washington Opera’s productions of Tristan and Isolde and Julius Caesar. His choreography has been honored with WATCH Awards for Richard III, Veronica’s Room, Romeo and Juliet, Kiss Me, Kate and The Miracle Worker. As always, Steve thanks the love of his life for getting him started on this incredible journey.

Grant Kevin Lane (Set Design/Costume Design) has designed sets and/or costumes for over 60 shows in the Washington area. A recipient of numerous ACT Awards and multiple WATCH nominations, he received the WATCH Award for Costume Design for Follies (TAP). Kevin sends his thanks to his design colleagues and master carpenters and to the talented seamsters, painters, carpenters and artisans who made this show come to life. Also thanks to the delightful cast and all the production staff, our director, choreographer and music director. Kudos to Russ, Bobbie and Rachel.
Pamela Leonowich (Co-Master Electrician) is proud to be following in her mother’s footsteps. Her mother served with the British Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA) during World War II as theater manager, stage manager, lighting designer, and projectionist on numerous British military bases. Many thanks to Eileen, who saw her in the audience in 2005 and asked if she’d like to be an LTA volunteer. As a result, Pam has worked on more than 60 shows on the lighting crew. Mum, this one’s for you!
Grace Machanic (Choreographer) Dance has been the continuous thread in Grace’s life since she began ballet at age three. She studied ballet, danced with the Washington Ballet and was accepted as an apprentice with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as a teenager, but a torn knee doing the can-can ended her hopes for a dance career. Instead she went to Madison College (now James Madison University, where the Green Room is dedicated to her), became an English teacher at Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda and began choreographing for the annual high school musicals. In her 25 years with LTA, she has choreographed nearly 25 award-winning shows, everything from The Fantasticks, The 1940’s Radio Hour, Little Shop of Horrors, Shenandoah, Das Barbecu, Forever Plaid, 1776 and, most recently, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. She also choreographs at Bishop Ireton High School and has seen the last two Cappies Awards at Kennedy Center feature a dance from each show. Grace teaches tap and ballet in her own studio (School for Swans). Of all her productions, she is the proudest of her son and daughter, Bruce and Laura.
Monty Python Is he God or Godot, an agent of the devil or an agent of the William Morris Agency, or is he, as some have argued, a fictitious character invented in 1969 by Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin in a desperate attempt to find a title for their rather silly TV show? Whatever the truth, he is the eponymous impresario who fronts “The Flying Circus,” “The Holy Grail,” “The Life of Brian,” “The Meaning of Life,” and “And Now for Something Completely Different” and who appeared “Live” at Drury Lane, City Center and the Hollywood Bowl. He has fronted numerous books, including “The Big Red Book” and the “Papperbok,” as well as many CDs, DVDs and matching ties and handkerchiefs. He is currently in retirement in an old jokes home near Dover, anxiously awaiting Nighthood and a Knightnurse. This is his first production at the Little Theatre of Alexandria. Paul Nasto (Music Director) is thrilled to be returning to the LTA team. Teaming again with director Wade Corder and joining choreographer Grace Machanic, he is extremely excited to be part of Spamalot. Over the past few years, Paul’s credits include: A Chorus Line, The Fantasticks, Florathe Red Menace (for which he composed an original orchestration) and Nine. In 2010, Paul won the WATCH Best Musical Director Award for his work on LTA’s production of Chicago, and he has been a WATCH Best Music Director nominee for both Nine and A Chorus Line. Paul is a working composer, conductor and musical director and has had performances of his works throughout the United States and Europe. He would like to express his deep appreciation to all at LTA for their support and to Wade and Grace for their inexhaustible energy and dedication to the show. A special thanks to Bill VanLear and Francine Krasowska for their time, talent and dedication. As always, Paul would like to thank Anne Marie for all of her love and support; for it is through her that he lives and breathes.
Jeff Nesmeyer (Co-Set Construction) is pleased to be working at LTA once again and sharing the duties of master carpenter with Jim Hutzler. Jeff has been helping out with set building for the last five years at LTA, and this is his second venture as co-master carpenter. He thanks LTA for their confidence in his carpentry abilities.
Thomas Norman (Production Assistant/Co-Assistant Stage Manager) is thrilled to be a part of his first production at LTA! He feels so lucky to work with such a talented and generous cast and crew. So many people have worked so hard to make Spamalot happen, and he hopes everyone enjoys the show!

Robin Havens Parker (Co-Hair/Wigs/Makeup) The process of theater has always fascinated Robin, and since the age of 12, she has been involved in every aspect possible, including costuming, makeup, hair, props, sound, lights and set design as well as acting, choreography and directing. Robin consults as the operating and marketing manager to music enterprises QuinTango and the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic Association, has served as the director of marketing and operations for Mount Vernon Community Children’s Theater and marketing chair of the Little Theatre of Alexandria, and is a board member of the Alexandria Arts Forum, responsible for marketing and communications. She is also passionate about the theater education program ArtSpeak!, bringing Broadway stars into local high schools, and volunteers as a marketing consultant to this exciting program. Robin graduated from Goucher College with a master’s in arts administration in 2012 and has begun a new endeavor speaking on her thesis subject: conflict management in creative environments.
Janice Rivera (Co-Sound Design) Janice’s recent sound design projects include Caught in the Net and Cantorial (WATCH Nomination) for LTA. She is a regular sound operator here in LTA’s Sky Lounge. You may have seen her onstage as well as Aldonza in Man of La Mancha (MCP) and Lucille in Parade (SMP), and here at LTA she played Ethel McCormack in Footloose and Mrs. Walker in Tommy. Janice works in video and film via her post-production company, Offbook Productions. Many thanks to Wade for the opportunity to work with him again, offstage this time, and to sound guru David Correia for sharing his technical prowess. A shrubbery to my Sir Galahad.
Rebecca Sheehy (Co-Props Design) joined as an official LTA member/volunteer during the 2013-14 season but has been a member of the audience with her aunt, Betty Dolan, and mom and dad since Victor/Victoria in the 2002-03 season. She worked her first show, The 39 Steps, with her aunt Betty and Leslie Reed and then worked on Ragtime, Proof and her first co-props design on Plaza Suite. She is thrilled to be working with Helen Sobola on this LTA performance of Spamalot. We have definitely had a good time and lots of laughs. Rebecca wants to thank everyone at LTA for being so warm and friendly—from the cast and crew members to producers, directors, the box office staff and volunteers. Enjoy the show!
Arthur Snow (Special Effects) is pleased to be working with the crew and cast of Spamalot and particularly with Kevin Lane. Inspired by charming Margaret, he has previously enjoyed designing challenging effects that creep, gallop, float, fly, fall, foam, burn, bleed, shatter, kick, smoke, undulate and unravel, and the challenges of this show are extraordinary.
Adrian Steel (Co-Assistant Stage Manager)is pleased to be working as an ASM at LTA again, having most recently worked on several shows, including TheFull Monty,Hairspray, Noises Off, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Heaven Can Wait. He has recently started working with props on shows such as Ragtime, Boeing Boeing and Plaza Suite. He has also worked recently backstage at RMP, VTC, TAP and MCP and is a member of the board of MCP. Adrian, a lawyer by day, expresses his appreciation to the cast and crew, who have been wonderful to work with.

Carol produced Next Fall (PCP), directed Perfect Wedding (MCP), appeared in Guys and Dolls (MCP) this year and will be producing Jesus Christ Superstar (MCP) next season.
Dominique Thompson (Co-Hair/Wigs/Makeup) is a five-year employee of ACPS, but his hair and makeup background dates back to when he was a student at Alexandria’s T.C. Williams High School. Dominique attended college in Richmond but returned home in an effort to give back to his community. He wants to thank Kevin and Robin for showing him the “LTA way” and Rachel for providing him with a fun and challenging summer activity. Enjoy the show!
Keith Waters (Photographer) is photographing his fourth LTA production this season. He has been photographing Crossfit, theater productions, head shots and events since 2010. Keith is also an actor who has appeared on several area stages and in independent films. He recently created a photography website at www.kxphotos.com.
Casey Wilson (Co-Assistant Stage Manager) is a sophomore at H.B. Woodlawn Secondary Program in Arlington. Productions include roles as Richard Plantagenet in Shakespeare’s Henry VI, Part 1 at her school and as a member of the children’s ensemble at the 2011 Castleton Festival under Maestro Lorin Maazel. She is preparing to direct her first show with her school next spring.
Russell Wyland (Co-Producer/Rigging) has been a member of LTA for 24 years and has served the theater in several capacities, including as Chairman of the Sound Department, head of the Selection Committee, and three years as President. Russ is serving his fourth term as the Governor for Production. His last two producing projects were 33 Variations (2013 LTA Award winner for Production of the Year) and Hairspray (2011 WATCH Award winner for Outstanding Musical). The Council of the Little Theatre of Alexandria is a support group of interested and dedicated people who support the theatre with special contributions. Additionally, the Council has three social events per year, provides for the winter holiday decorations for the theatre, and maintains the Council Memorial Garden. The Council was organized in 1961 and presently has about 80 members, most of whom are long-term and wellestablished LTA members. Past contributions include: a new range for the Council Green Room of LTA, folding chairs and tables throughout the theatre, brass plates for the new theatre seats, new draperies in the Council Room, the computerized box office system, several grand drapes over the years, and many varied technical enhancements. Contributions to LTA from the Council have exceeded $200,000 and we gratefully accept donations from friends and members to assist in our support of LTA. We welcome new members and if you would like to become a member of the Council please feel free to contact the theatre or any of the Council officers. We are very pleased and honored to be a part of the Alexandria artistic community and are proud to be supporting one of the best community theatres in America today.
