Director’s Notes
Like moths to a flame, the characters of Two on the Aisle, Three in a Van are drawn each year to the Summerfun Repertory Theatre. Our backstage view of their season allows the audience to dive into what drives each character’s unique personality and their relationships.
The heart of the matter is theatre; theatre is the heart of the matter, is the thematic thread that ties the characters to one another and their story to the audience.
After an evening full of laughter, I hope you will leave with a joyous heart and a warmth and understanding for these characters, who are looking for their place and purpose, just as each one of us looks for ours.
Although our play tonight is light, I hope our story provokes thoughts and discussion on your place, purpose and passion.
What is at the center of it all for you? What is the heart of the matter in your life?
Enjoy!
Mike Donahue, DirectorTIME PERIOD AND SETTING
Two on the Aisle, Three in a Van takes place over the summer in modern-day America.
Two on the Aisle, Three in a Van is performed in two acts with a 15-minute intermission.

SYNOPSIS
Welcome to another stellar season at the Neighborhood Actors Summerfun Repertory Theatre, a friendly little playhouse where, due to a lack of wing space, the company spends their downtime in the parking lot around an aging hippie/now turned techie’s van. Those looking for refuge at the asphalt oasis include: a stressed-out artistic director grappling for funding; a wannabe diva who’s realizing that her ingenue expiration date has just about passed; a board member’s nephew vying to direct the musicals with a Tarantino spin; and the “I’m no chorus boy” chorus boy who thinks every show should have a kick line—including The Glass Menagerie. These are just some of the egos and obstacles that fall into the lap of Mike, a nice-guy director who ends up with far more than he bargained for. Anyone who’s ever seen a show may know these people. Anyone who’s ever done a show may be these people.
In the end, Two on the Aisle, Three in a Van continues to prove the adage that somehow, someway, the show must go on. And it does ... just not always as planned.

Mike worked professionally in the theatre from 1984 to 2000. He has an M.F.A. in theater directing and was artistic director for Playhouse on the Square’s Professional Theatre for Youth in Memphis, TN. He was associate artistic director for HITT Productions, responsible for writing, directing and fight direction for large performance events. Directing credits include: The Merchant of Venice (VP), Nothing Sacred (Circuit Playhouse, Memphis), Tom Sawyer, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Magician’s Nephew (Playhouse on the Square Professional Theatre for Youth, Memphis), The Tell Tale Heart, The Murders in the Rue Morgue (HITT Productions, Poconos, PA), The Glass Menagerie, Extremities, Lord Byron (original one-man show, University of Memphis).
Shannon Doyle (Co-Set Construction) has been a patron since 2010 and ushered the past two seasons. Last season, Shannon worked with the incredibly talented set painting crews for Something Rotten and Mary Stuart—so many bricks to paint—and met the equally talented set builders, sometimes mixing the skills together. With Nacirema Society, Shannon did dedicated build work, painting on the side, and learned so much from the build crew! This season it was painting with Freaky Friday, a little building on the side, and now Two on the Aisle, Three in a Van as co-builder.
Meet the Crew (continued)
Charles Dragonette (Co-Set Design and Co-Set Decoration) is always somewhat surprised to be asked back to the scene of the crime! He loved designing and dressing LTA’s Rumors; working with the Two on the Aisle team has renewed the pleasure. In his spare time, he designs and dresses sets for ACCT and DS. He was LTA’s 2019 Judy Kee Excellence in Set Dressing Award winner for August: Osage County. As always, he appreciates the support of his husband, Alan, in transitioning from “theater widow” to overcommitted techie!
Julie Fischer (Co-Set Construction) is honored to work with the production team, master carpenters Shah and Shannon and the skilled volunteers who give their time to construct fantastic sets at LTA. This is her fifth year working on LTA productions, including as master carpenter (Mary Stuart, Wait Until Dark, Rumors) and set designer (Lettice and Lovage, Sister Act, Design for Murder). She would like to thank Jim and Jeff for the work that they put into the LTA shop and encourage everyone to play with power tools.
Peter Halverson (Master Electrician) has been involved with lighting and sound at LTA for over a decade, assisting with productions including Design for Murder, The Nance, In the Heights and Cantorial. Most recently, he apprenticed as sound designer for LTA’s Mary Stuart. He has also performed onstage in LTA shows such as Rumors, You Can’t Take It with You, The Fabulous Lipitones and Spamalot, and various productions by other NOVA theatre groups. His interests beyond the stage door include cloud software architecture, mixology and bass guitar; he hopes one day to take a turn in the LTA orchestra pit! Many thanks to all the kind and talented people who assisted with my debut as M.E.

She has worked backstage for TAP, Hexagon, RLT and BP, with most of her time being spent with BP. Although Caitlin loves every opportunity she gets to work backstage, in her free time she can usually be seen hanging out with (aka babysitting) kids of all ages, her other passion.
Renae Rhoads (Co-Assistant Stage Manager) is excited to be working with such a wonderful cast and crew.
In case of an emergency, LTA has three AEDs (automated external defibrillators) They are located as follows:

Janice is a video editor and producer via her postproduction company, Offbook Productions. https: //www.offbookpro.com
Robbie Snow (Co-Costume Design) is excited to be working at LTA. She has worked mainly with PPF but has ventured out to TAP and Sterling Playmakers. She received WATCH awards for costuming in 2012 for You Can’t Take It with You, in 2017 for hair and makeup for Moon Over Buffalo, and in 2018 for set dressing and props for The Front Page. Love to Nick, Amanda, Chris and Eric. And for Carolyn Hatfield, whose style and beauty will never fade.
Monika Stumpo (Co-Producer) makes her production debut with Two on the Aisle, Three in a Van. Monika will be producing Annie at LTA in early 2024. She thanks her friends and family for their support, in particular her husband, Hammad, the true Drama Queen.

She joined LTA during the 2015-16 season and has since become a WATCH Award and three-time LTA Award winner. She continues to teach painting at LTA as well as lead crew and work on various shows. She wishes to thank her regular crew and new painting volunteers for their time and skills on this show!
Russell M. Wyland (Rigging) has been an LTA member and volunteer for more than 30 years. During that time, he has worked in numerous capacities, including seven years as President and eight years as Governor for Production. However, his first love is rigging, the art of masking the stage with drapes, and making things fly from above and travel across the stage. Russ will be co-producing Young Frankenstein at LTA this fall.
Ali Zaikouk (Co-Costume Design) is a distinguished interior designer from Arlington, VA. Ali’s career spans over 22 years and ranges from federal projects, commercial design and high-end residential to large-scale events. He has been involved in multiple productions with Providence Players (Rough Crossing, Lovers and Executioners). He is currently working in Washington, DC, beautifying the nation’s capital. Ali has lived on three continents, and while abroad he has developed a keen sense of style, making him a versatile designer—absorbing different styles, cultures and the latest trends.
Thank You!
LTA wishes to recognize and thank all of the volunteers who have given their time and talents by helping with house managing, ushering, or working in the box office for our previous production of Freaky Friday

The Council of the Little Theatre of Alexandria is a group of dedicated members who support financial projects for the theatre and provide numerous social events with dinners, receptions, and other member gatherings. The Council promotes and supports volunteerism throughout the theatre to ensure continued success in all areas, i.e., backstage, front of house, box office, etc.; we also provide need-based scholarship funding to support numerous adult and youth educational programs within the theatre. The Council is proud to sponsor the Shakespeare Garden which has become a community favorite with many stopping in just to relax and “waste my time in it.”
