У нашій країні осінь здавна вважали часом підбиття підсумків. Можливо тому, що для наших пращурів це був період завершення довгих місяців важкої праці та збору врожаю. Потрібно визнати, що 2013 рік став для МАУ справді “врожайним”: у чомусь – знаковим, у чомусь – рекордним. Цього року ми вдвічі розширили маршрутну мережу, майже подвоїли парк літаків і вже подолали рубіж у 3 мільйони пасажирів! Сьогодні важко повірити, що восени далекого 1992-го, коли народжувалася наша авіакомпанія, у повітряному парку ми мали лише два літаки “Боїнг-737”. У свій перший рік авіакомпанія МАУ опанувала сім маршрутів і перевезла 105 тисяч пасажирів – менше, ніж ми перевозимо тепер за один тиждень. Тоді ми дуже пишалися своїми першими досягненнями і навіть уявити не могли, як стрімко проминуть роки, і МАУ стане найбільшою і найпотужнішою авіакомпанією України. Наразі ми виконуємо прямі рейси за більш як 70 напрямками на 36 сучасних літаках “Боїнг-737” і “Ембраєр-190” і за 2013 рік плануємо перевезти 4,5 мільйона пасажирів! За майже 21 рік послугами “Міжнародних Авіаліній України” скористалися мільйони мандрівників. На початку жовтня ми очікуємо на ювілейного 20-мільйонного пасажира, і в наступному номері журналу “Панорама” обов’язково розповімо про це докладніше. Попереду – 21-ша річниця МАУ. У багатьох країнах світу саме цей вік вважається повноліттям. І ми, озираючись назад, повною мірою відчуваємо, що МАУ – доросла, досвідчена, професійна компанія, яка впевнено крокує в майбутнє, до нових висот. Що як помріяти про те, якою стане наша авіакомпанія і загалом авіація через 20 років? Можна, напевно, уявити, що прогрес сягне таких обріїв, які наразі видаються фантастичними… Всі процеси в аеропортах будуть автоматизовані – реєстрація пасажирів, обробка багажу, обслуговування літаків. Можливо, навіть самі літаки стануть безпілотними, а польотом керуватиме комп’ютер. Через 20 років дізнаємося… Але я впевнений, що, попри будь-який технічний прогрес, попри будь-які винаходи, долю нашої авіакомпанії завжди визначатимуть люди – професійна, досвідчена, творча і по-справжньому закохана в авіацію команда МАУ, яка робить все для того, аби ви відчували себе спокійно і комфортно на борту наших літаків. In our country, autumn has always been a time to look at the results of the past year. Perhaps, the reason is that for our ancestors, autumn meant the end of long months of hard labour following the annual harvest and preparations for winter. The “harvest season” of 2013 has been bountiful for UIA. This year has so far been momentous and record-breaking for our airline. We expanded the route network twofold, almost doubled our fleet, and have already carried more than 3 million passengers! It’s hard to believe that back in autumn 1992 the fleet of our newly-established airline consisted of only two Boeing-737 aircraft. During that first year of operation UIA launched flights to seven destinations and carried 105,000 passengers – less than we currently carry per week. However, we were really proud of those initial steps and could not have imagined the rapid passing of years that would see UIA grow to become the most dominant of Ukraine’s carriers. We currently operate non-stop flights to more than 70 destinations on 36 modern Boeing-737 and Embraer-190 aircraft and expect to carry 4.5 million passengers in 2013. Millions of travellers have made use of UIA’s services within the almost 21 years of the airline’s operations. In early October we expect to carry our 20 millionth passenger, and we’ll commemorate that milestone in the next Panorama issue. Ahead is UIA’s 21st anniversary, an age regarded to be symbolic of adulthood in many countries worldwide. Looking back we can clearly see how UIA has developed into a mature, experienced, and professional company that feels confident about the future and scaling new heights. So, what does the future hold for our airline – and the world’s aviation industry – for example in 20 years from now? Technology is likely to progress to levels that now seem fantastic. Maybe all airport processes – check-in, baggage processing, aircraft maintenance, and so on – will become automatic. Perhaps, even aircraft will become unmanned, operated by computer. Well, we’ll find out in 20 years’ time… However, I’m sure that despite technological progress and innovations, our company’s future will always be determined by people – a professional, experienced, creative and aviationdedicated UIA team – who will, as they do now, do their best to make you feel safe and comfortable on board our aircraft. Спосіб №1. Вклонитися трьом Буддам у Бангкоку
95% населення Таїланду сповідують буддизм, тож статуї Будди тут повсюди. У столиці знаходяться три найунікальніші з них – Смарагдовий, Золотий і Лежачий Будда. Перша статуя зберігається у храмі Ват Пхра Кео, що на території Королівського палацу XVIII століття. Найсвятіша для таїландців статуя – 66-сантиметровий Будда зеленого кольору, – сидить на золотому троні у позі лотоса. За легендою, реліквію знайшли монахи в 1434 році в одному з храмів на півночі країни. Вкрита гіпсом статуя стояла там роками, доки блискавка вразила храм, відколовши шматок гіпсу й відкривши зелений камінь. Подумали, що то смарагд, через що за реліквією закріпилась відповідна назва. Насправді ж, статуя виготовлена із рідкісного цільного шматка нефриту. Дивовижна історія пов’язана також із Золотим Буддою, що зберігається в храмі Ват Трайміт у Бангкоку. Триметрова фігура сидячого Будди датується XIII століттям, важить 5,5 тонн та повністю відлита з чистого золота 18 карат. Її вартість оцінюється в 20 мільйонів доларів! Коли побудували Ват Трайміт, то вирішили помістити туди статую Будди з покинутого храму. При транспортуванні вона впала, і з-під шару гіпсу засяяло золото. У найстарішому храмі Бангкока Ват Пхо, збудованому в XII столітті, Будда зображений у положенні лежачи в очікуванні досягнення нірвани. Величезні ступні Будди вкриті перламутровим орнаментом. Щоб обійти гігантську 16-метрову статую з голови до ніг, знадобиться чимало часу… Вважають, що саме у Ват Пхо зародилося мистецтво тайського масажу. Нині тут діє спеціальна школа, де можна замовити сеанс і навчитися цього виду терапії.
Спосіб №2. Проїхатися на тук-туку по Бангкоку
Тук-туки – колоритні різнокольорові моторикші, дешевий вид транспорту, яким користуються і туристи, і самі таїландці. Сівши в накриту тентом кабінку, причеплену до мотоцикла, можна сповна “насолодитися” близькістю інших учасників дорожнього руху. Найнезабутніший досвід я отримала у 15-мільйонному Бангкоку, коли, осідлавши тук-тук, влилася в переповнену трафіком вулицю й на повні груди вдихнула перенасичене смогом повітря. Про ціну проїзду з тук-тукером слід домовлятися заздалегідь.
Way №1. Bow to the Three Buddhas of Bangkok
Some 95% of the Thai population is Buddhist, and as such statues of Buddha are found almost on every corner. The most unique of them – the Emerald, Golden and Reclining Buddhas – are found in Bangkok. The first statue is in Wat Phra Kaew temple, located in the 18th century Grand Palace in Bangkok. This palace hosts ceremonies presided over by the world’s longest-reigning monarch, the 85-year-old Rama IX. The 66-centimetre Emerald Buddha, which sits in the lotus position inside the temple, is sacred to the Thai people. According to legend monks found this relic in a temple in northern Thailand. The plastered statue hid a secret. It has stood for years until lightning struck the temple, chipping off part of the plaster, revealing green stone underneath. First it was believed it was made of emerald, thus giving it its name. In fact it is made of a rare whole piece of jade. On their knees, Thais bow to the “Enlightened One”, bringing lotus flowers and jasmine garlands that symbolise the “circle of life”. Another similar legend relates to the Golden Buddha, found in the temple Wat Traimit. This 3-metre Buddha dates from the 13th century and weighs 5.5 tonnes, all of which is molded from pure 18-karat gold. It has an estimated worth of $20 million! When Wat Traimit was built, it was decided to relocate the statue from an abandoned temple. During transportation it fell, and gold gleamed through a layer of plaster. At Thailand’s oldest temple, known as Wat Pho and built in the 12th century, the Buddha is portrayed reclining and awaiting nirvana. The huge feet of the Reclining Buddha are adorned with mother-of-pearl. It takes some time to walk around the 16-metre statue. The art of Thai massage is believed to have originated here, and to this day, a special training school operates here, where you can both order a session and learn this kind of treatment.
Way №2. Cruise Through Bangkok in a Tuk-Tuk
Tuk-tuks are swift and colourful moto-rickshaws, a way of transportation regularly used by Thai and tourists alike to negotiate the vehicle-clogged streets. Sitting in the clothshaded cabin, you can feel the thrill of other vehicles flying past you. You should agree the fare with the tuk-tuk driver in advance, but hopping into a tuk-tuk, rushing through the traffic and breathing the smoggy air of Bangkok is an unforgettable experience! Побувати у Таїланді й не спробувати тайський масаж було б неприпустимо, тож саме його я вибрала з меню процедур спа-центру Bangkok Oasis Spa (www.bangkokoasis.com). Терапія, винайдена дві тисячі років тому, базується на східному вченні про енергетичні потоки у тілі. Надавлюванням на певні точки, розтягуванням, пускаючи в хід долоні, лікті, коліна та ступні, масажист змушує життєву енергію розливатися по всьому тілу. В результаті стимулюється кровообіг, покращується гнучкість, тіло розслабляється. Щоправда, деякий час після сеансу можуть тривати больові відчуття, наче після активних занять у спортзалі. На вулицях туристичних міст повно дешевих масажних салонів, які обіцяють “справжній” тайський масаж за 10 баксів. Можна спробувати. Втім, мій знайомий зізнався, що такий масаж більше походив на еротичний, ніж на терапевтичний.

З часів заснування Бангкок стояв на численних каналах (клонгах) ріки Чаупхрая. 90% населення жило на воді в човнах-поромах або у хатинах на палях. Більшість каналів засипали, та залишився район Тхонбурі – частинка плавучого Бангкока з минулого. Орендую колоритну “довгохвосту” моторку, яка з вітерцем несе мене клонгами. Проїжджаючи водяними вуличками, спостерігаю за побутом людей: білизна коло хатин, квіти у вазонах, папуги в клітках… Наступного ранку вирушаю до плавучого ринку Дамноен Cадуак, доїхати до якого можна з Південного автобусного терміналу Бангкока. Я ні на мить не пошкодувала, що прокинулась о п’ятій ранку і проїхала 100 кілометрів, аби потрапити на базар у пік його активності з 7:00 до 9:00. Сідаю у вузенький хиткий човник, гребець попереджає: “Бережіть руки!”. Відчайдушно тримаюся за борт цього нестабільного плавзасобу, та нас постійно таранять такі ж човни з торговцями й покупцями. На ринку можна купити яскравий одяг і хустини з тайського шовку, найрізноманітніші фрукти та овочі. І, звичайно ж, фейкові сумки Louis Vuitton, сорочки Polo, взуття Puma і годинники Rolex: таїландці, як і китайці – майстри підробок.
Спосіб №5. Поспілкуватися зі слонами
Для таїландців слони – священні тварини. Протягом віків ці гіганти допомагали будувати міста й храми, працювали в сільському господарстві, слугували транспортом і навіть брали участь у війнах. За легендою, Будда постав перед людьми верхи на триголовому білому слоні, який врятував країну від засухи. Таїландці зображають слонів на картинах, сувенірах, влаштовують на їхню честь свята. Way №3. Shop at a Floating Market
Since its foundation, Bangkok has been crisscrossed by numerous canals of River Chao Phraya. Once 90% of the population lived on boats and rafts or in huts supported by piles on the shores of khlong canals. Most of the canals have since been filled, but the district of Thon Buri is a part of the floating Bangkok of the past. I rent a colourful long tail motorboat that will quickly carry you through the khlongs, watching the everyday life of people living in colourful, but ramshackle, houses on piles, or in boats. Next morning, I go to Damnoen Saduak, which is easily reachable from Bangkok’s southern terminal. While I have to wake up at 05.00 and travel 100 kilometres to reach the market at its peak working hours – 07.00 to 09.00 – I don’t regret it. I sit in a narrow boat that rolls from side to side. The rower warns me – “Watch your hands!” I desperately grab the hull of this unstable vessel, but we keep getting hit again and again by similar boats filled with merchants and customers. The floating market is the best place to buy bright clothing and headscarves made of Thai silk, unfamiliar fruits and vegetables, and notably, fake Louis Vuitton bags, Polo shirts, Puma shoes and Rolex watches – just like the Chinese, Thai are masters of knock-offs.
Way №4. Try Thai Massage

Being in Thailand and not trying Thai massage is almost unheard of, which is why I picked it among the variety of services offered by Bangkok Oasis Spa (www.bangkokoasis.com; €25). The therapy, invented 2,000 years ago, is based on a theory about the streams of energy flowing through the body. By pressing certain spots, stretching, and massaging with palms, elbows, knees and feet, the master of Thai massage brings energy to the whole body. As a result, Thai massage stimulates blood circulation, increases flexibility and relaxes. For an hour, I was in heaven, despite lingering soreness after the session that is similar to what you’d feel after a good workout. The streets of the tourist cities are rife with cheap massage salons offering “real” Thai massage for as little as $10. You could try it for comparison, but a male friend who gave it a shot later confessed that this was service more like erotic massage – the masseuse will press certain points on a man’s body, exciting him and cooling him down in turn.

Elephants are sacred to the Thai. Through the ages they helped build cities and temples, worked in agriculture, were a way of getting around and even served as formidable war machines. According to legend, Buddha himself appeared on a three-headed elephant that saved the lands from drought. The Thai portray elephants on all kinds of pictures and souvenirs, and even hold festivals in their honour. Thai elephant day is the most important of them. It’s celebrated on 13 March with lush fruit feasts prepared for elephants. I was lucky to see another event – the Elephant Round-Up in Surin (430 kilometres north of Bangkok), which takes place on the third weekend of November, featuring an elephant parade, elephant football and the world’s PANORAMA № 10 / 2013 / 19

Way №6. Visit a Long-necked Tribe
A Buddhist monk I met during the trip told me I could find an authentic Thai experience in the north of the country. So I headed off for Chiang Mai, the largest and most culturally significant city in northern Thailand. The local mountains are inhabited by tribes that are diverse in culture, language and customs; and all of them are refugees from political upheavals in China, Tibet and Myanmar. The Kayan is by far the most exotic. I visited a couple of Kayan settlements near Mae Hong Song, 235 kilometres from Chang Mai – the commercialised and “touristy” village of Huay Sua Thao, and the more authentic Nai Soi. Kayan women are known for their neck rings, which they wear since childhood. A woman can wear up to 25 brass coils weighing about 9 kilogrammes! According to one version, the rings protect from tiger bites. Plus, long necks are associated with beauty and well-being. The smiling and friendly long-necked women are engaged in farming, raising children, and making souvenirs with symbols of the tribe. Not surprisingly, shopping is inevitable here, so look out for brass coils and carefully woven scarves and shawls.

biggest elephant feast, made for at least 200 animals. You can also meet these giants in elephant camps – for instance, the Taweechai Elephant Camp in Kanchanaburi, which is 100 kilometres north of Bangkok (14/1 Moo 6, Chong Sadao, Kanchanaburi, www.taweechaielephantcamp.com), or in Thai Elephant Conservation Centre in Lampang, an hour’s drive from Chang Mai (28-29 Lampang – Chiang Mai Highway, www.thailandelephant.org). The programme is more or less similar in both places – you see how elephant jockeys bathe their animals, take part in an elephant show, have an elephant ride through the jungle, and then go down the river on a bamboo raft. In Kanchanaburi, I took part in an “elephant massage” where an elephant touched my behind with its enormous foot. Surviving the massage, I then fed a baby elephant with a milk bottle. Finally ascending a ladder into a tree and then clambering into a seat on an elephant’s back, I went on a journey to the jungle along the Khwae River. At one point, the elephant entered the water and started showering itself from its trunk, wetting me in the process. Then I boarded a raft – and floated down the river Khwae!

Далі, вибравшись по драбині на дерево та вскочивши звідти в сидіння, закріплене на спині слона, вирушаю у подорож по джунглях уздовж річки Квай. В якийсь момент слон заходить у воду й починає приймати ванни, не забуваючи періодично поливати й мене з хобота. Далі мене саджають на бамбуковий пліт – і гуд-бай по річці Квай!

Зірваний фрукт забороняють заносити у готелі, при вході навіть стоять попереджувальні знаки. Я це правило порушила, тож довелося ще довго провітрювати номер від нестерпного смороду…

150 км на південний схід від Бангкока – і ви опиняєтесь у місті гріха Паттайї. На вулицях курорту можна побачити чоловіків у футболках з написом “Хороші хлопці потрапляють у рай, погані хлопці – в Паттайю”. “Поганих хлопців”, як бджіл на мед, тягне на пішохідну вулицю Walking Street, яка після 18:00 обертається на епіцентр розваг. Найневинніші з них – дискоклуби, байкерські та рок-бари, казино, тайський бокс. Та насамперед Паттайя славиться своїми гоу-гоу барами – щось на зразок стрип-клубів. За окрему плату з дівчатамитанцівницями можна познайомитися поближче. На Walking Street повно і масажних салонів, де під вивіскою Body Massage часто пропонують еротичний масаж або сексуальні послуги. Концентрація трансвеститів на вулиці вражає, причому часто їх важко відрізнити від жінок. Саме такий конфуз стався з моїм знайомим, який піддався чарам однієї “красуні”. На щастя, вчасно схаменувся… Я ж побувала на популярному шоу трансвеститів “Альказар”, яке за постановкою, розкішшю костюмів та красою акторів нічим не поступається паризьким кабаре “Мулен Руж” та “Лідо”. Because of its disgusting odour, durian is considered the foulest smelling fruit in the world, yet, surprisingly, it tastes like sweet cream or banana – everyone makes different associations. In Thailand, durian is sold at a price of 100 baht (€2,4) per kg. Picked fruit can be kept only a few days. It’s prohibited to take durian into hotels, and there are even warning signs at the entrance… I broke this rule and had to ventilate my room for a long time to get rid of the stench…
Way №8. Sin in Pattaya
Just 150 kilometres southeast of Bangkok you’ll find yourself in the ultimate “sin city”. In the streets you’ll see men wearing T-shirts with the slogan: “Good guys go to heaven, bad guys go to Pattaya”, which perfectly describes the atmosphere. Like bees to honey, “bad guys” are attracted to the pedestrian Walking Street, which becomes the epicentre of nightlife after 18.00. The most innocent entertainment found here includes disco-clubs, biker and rock bars, casinos, and Thai boxing… then there’s the seedy. Pattaya is mostly famous for its go-go bars. For an additional payment, you can get to know the dancers a little more intimately. Walking Street is also full of massage parlours, where tourists are often offered erotic massage or sexual services. The concentration of transvestites or “lady-boys” in the street is impressive, and it’s often difficult to distinguish them from women. This happened to one of my friends, who fell for the charms of a “beauty”… He later changed his mind… I attended the popular Alcazar drag queen show, which by its stage design, luxurious costumes and beautiful dancers equals the renowned Moulin Rouge and Lido. In a theatre with 1,200 densely packed seats, there is barely room to swing a cat. Book your tickets in advance! Pattaya is also famous for the best seafood restaurants in the country. I liked Nang Nual (214 M.10 Walking Street) with its unforgettable seafront panorama. You can easily get lost in the menu, which features the freshest kinds of seafood caught directly from the aquarium. Far from the tourist trails near the beach of the Birds & Bees hotel, there’s a restaurant aptly named Cabbages & Condoms. Condoms are part of the decor of the restaurant and Thai delicacies feature on its menu.

Thai beaches lure thousands with their pristine beauty
Славиться Паттайя і найкращими у країні ресторанами морепродуктів. Мені сподобався Nang Nual (214 M.10 Walking Street) з панорамою набережної. Переглядаючи меню з найсвіжіших дарів моря, яких виловлюють прямо з акваріума, легко розгубитися… Далі від туристичних стежин біля пляжу готелю Birds & Bees знаходиться ресторан з епатажною назвою Cabbages & Condoms (“Капуста й презервативи”). У декорі закладу – презервативи, а в меню – тайські делікатеси.
Спосіб №9. Насолодитися красою ботанічного саду Нонг Нуч
Нонг Нуч (www.nongnoochgarden.com) – один із найбільших ботанічних садів у світі, – займає територію у 520 га, на якій ростуть найрізноманітніші рослини. Тут налічується 1100 видів пальм і 700 видів орхідей, щодня висаджують близько 200 нових рослин. Фотографуюсь в обнімку з мавпою, що сидить на вході, й вирушаю дивитися фольклорне шоу з тайськими піснямитанцями та за участю слонів, що інсценують воєнні дії Сіаму з бірманськими загарбниками. Потім цілий день блукаю по саду, милуючись дивовижними рослинами. Далі в програмі – шоу слонів, де ці милі гіганти танцюють, грають у баскетбол і їздять на велосипедах. Під аплодисменти публіки слон катав мене на хоботі, а потім, тримаючи хоботом пензель, розмалював мені квітами футболку, яку я зберігаю і досі.
Спосіб №10. Відпочити на ідилічних пляжах Пхукету
Пляжі острова Пхукет, що омиваються водами Андаманського моря, ваблять своєю первозданною красою. Найшикарнішим вважається Банг-Тао, вздовж якого тягнеться смуга дорогих готелів, спа-центрів та гольф-полів. Я ж вирішила дослідити околиці райського острова, вирушивши на моторному човні в напрямку сусідньої провінції Крабі. Де-не-де посеред моря височіють вапнякові скелі, вкриті пишною рослинністю. Стрибаю з човна у воду й плаваю серед цієї дикої краси, пірнаю з маскою та трубкою, милуюся коралами й тропічними рибами. На шляху повертаємо в “Печеру вікінгів”, де живе диковинний вид морських ластівок, чиї гнізда їстівні. Таїландці збирають їх та готують делікатес – суп із гнізд ластівок. Запливаємо на “Манкі Біч”, тобто Мавпячий пляж. Волохате населення острова прямо з джунглів вискакує нам назустріч з надією отримати банан. Потім щасливі макаки відпочивають на білому м’якому пісочку, смакуючи фруктами. Голлівуд гідно оцінив красу тутешніх островів, знявши їх у кількох фільмах. Потрапив у кадр і острів Пі-Пі Лей, куди наш човен пробирається поміж вузькими скелями. Тут, у бухті Майя-Бей, в обіймах зелені джунглів та блакиті води, знаходиться 200-метрова смуга білосніжного пляжу, де знімали фільм “Пляж” із Леонардо ді Капріо. Неподалік розкинувся острів Джеймса Бонда – скеля-палець, яка “засвітилася” у фільмі “Людина із золотим пістолетом”. Роблю чудові фото на фоні цих прекрасних островів, куди хочеться повертатися знову й знову…
Way №9. Admire the Beauty of the Nong Nooch Botanical Tropical Garden
Nong Nooch (www.nongnoochgarden.com), located not far from Pattaya, is one of the largest and most impressive botanical gardens in the world, covering 520 hectares. It features a number of beautifully landscaped gardens, and boasts the world’s largest collection of palms (1,100 species). About 200 new plants are planted here every day. The Butterfly Hill is home to over 1,500 insects, from tiny to giant, who live here amongst lush tropical greenery. I took a photo of myself embracing a monkey at the entrance, and then headed to watch a Thai folk show with elephants, which re-enact the events of the Burmese-Siamese War. For the rest of the day, I wandered in the garden admiring the amazing plants. In the evening, I watched another elephant show, where these giants danced, played basketball and even rode bicycles. To the applause of the audience, an elephant let me ride his trunk, gave me a massage, and finally painted my T-shirt holding a brush in its trunk.
Way №10. Relax on the Beaches of Phuket
The beaches of Phuket, washed by the blue waters of the Andaman Sea, lure thousands with their pristine beauty. Bang Thao is considered to be the most luxurious, encircled by a strip of expensive hotels, spas and golf courses. There’s also Nai Harn, Surin, Karon, Kata – and travellers constantly argue which beach is the best. I decided to explore the surroundings of this paradise by taking a motorboat to the neighboring province of Krabi. Here, rising out of the sea, are towering limestone cliffs covered with lush vegetation. I jumped off the boat into the water and swam amongst this dramatic setting, diving with a mask and a snorkel, admiring corals and tropical fish. During the trip we stopped in the Viking Cave, where a strange species of sea swallows whose nests are edible are found. The Thais gather them and prepare a specialty – birds nest soup. Arriving at Monkey Beach, the hairy inhabitants ran to us directly from the jungle hoping to get a banana, and then the happy macaques rested on the soft white sand eating. Hollywood has noted the scenery and the islands have featured in several movies. One of them is the island of Phi Phi Lay, where our boat snaked through a narrow passage between the rocks. Here in Maya Bay, in the midst of green jungle and blue water, is the 200-metre strip of white sand where The Beach starring Leonardo DiCaprio was made. Nearby there’s the famous rockfinger, which featured in the Bond movie The Man with the Golden Gun. Taking pictures on these beautiful islands was one of the most memorable moments of my journey, which I would eagerly repeat again and again…

Klee taught at the famous Bauhaus school in Weimar, which had a major impact on art and architecture, proclaiming the supremacy of functionalism and usefulness over form. The exhibition encompasses several themes – Colour, Rhythm, Design, Nature and Movement – comprising more than 140 paintings, watercolours and drawings. The exhibition will also include Klee’s manuscripts, books, documents and personal photos.

Запитайте, що це shrimps таке, у сицилійця і в жителя Ломбардії, і отримаєте діаметрально протилежні відповіді. Таке ж буйство гастрономічних стилів і напрямків існує в Таїланді, хоча співіснують кухні різних регіонів країни досить мирно. Отже, приготуйтесь поринути у різноманітний світ гастрономічного Таїланду. Спершу ми дізнаємось про кулінарні традиції регіонів Таїланду, завершимо ж нашу мандрівку в Бангкоку – місті, яке є квінтесенцією тайських кулінарних традицій і звичок. Північ, північний схід, південь (включаючи острови і Сіамську затоку) і центральний Таїланд – так умовно можна поділити країну з гастрономічної точки зору. Якщо подивитися на карту, то країна витягнута з півночі на південь. Тільки уявіть, скільки часу займало переміщення між провінціями Таїланду ще 100 років тому, адже впорядкований рух залізницею з’явився лише в 20-х роках минулого століття. А на слонах по джунглях не сильно розженешся… Саме такий стан речей безпосередньо вплинув на той факт, що кухні різних регіонів Таїланду практично не перетиналися.
В обіймах джунглів
Північ країни, що знаходиться в тропічних джунглях з центром у місті Чіангмай, практично до кінця XIX століття була окремим королівством, оточеним природними перепонами у вигляді річок, гір і лісів. Все це призвело до розвитку не тільки власного діалекту, але й унікальної кулінарної традиції. Річ у тому, що тут немає кокосових дерев, а значить – величезного пласту тайських страв, основою яких є кокосове молоко: від карі до супів і десертів. Червоне м’ясо всіх сортів й овочі, а також клейкий рис – ось що становить основу раціону мешканців півночі. Різноманітні діпи (в’язкі й густі соуси) часто використовуються з овочами або як основа для багатьох страв, які загортають у зелень. На смак кухня північного Таїланду – кисла й терпка. Є багато страв з рису, запозичених із сусідніх Лаосу і М’янми. Приміром, клейкий рис застосовується не тільки в десертах,

lthough the umbrella label ‘Thai food’ is seemingly simple and clear, it is just as misleading as the concept of Italian food. Ask a Sicilian or a Lombardian what they consider to be Italian cuisine, and you will get two totally different answers. In Thailand, there’s a similar variety of culinary styles and trends, although cuisines from different regions of the country coexist alongside and complement each other beautifully. So get ready to dive into the diverse world of gastronomic Thailand. We’ll start with learning about the culinary traditions of the country’s regions. Our journey will end in Bangkok, a city where all culinary roads intersect, making it the quintessential hub of Thai cooking traditions and habits. Gastronomically, the country is divided into four parts: the north, the north east, the south (including the Islands and the Gulf of Siam) and central Thailand. If you look at a map, you’ll notice the country stretches from north to south. Just imagine how long it would take to move between the provinces of Thailand about 100 years ago! Regular railroad movement appeared only in the 1920s, and elephants aren’t exactly the fastest way to get around the jungle. This is the main reason why the food traditions from different regions of Thailand are so diverse.
Embraced by the Jungle
The north of the country, a tropical jungle with its centre in Chiang Mai, was a separate kingdom until almost the end of the 19th century, surrounded by natural barriers in the form of rivers, mountains and forests. This led to the development of a regional dialect as well as a unique culinary tradition. The thing is, there are no coconut trees found here, which is why the vast majority of Thai dishes in this area (recipes PANORAMA № 10 / 2013 / 31

Натомість дуже популярна локшина, а карі значно “легші”. Радимо спробувати найвідоміші з них: kaeng yuak (каррі з серцевини бананових пальм) і kaeng khanoon (із джекфрукта). Перекусити місцеві жителі полюбляють сосисками, яких тут безліч різновидів. Найпопулярніший – sai ua, це сосиска зі свинячого фаршу, чилі, часнику, шалоту і лемонграсу. Чудово втамовує голод!
Кому огірок, а кому і папайя
Північний схід Таїланду в чомусь повторює кулінарні традиції півночі, та має і свої нюанси, зумовлені впливом Камбоджі й Китаю. Смажать і запікають тут майже все, а гострий чилі додають навіть до десертів. Мабуть, найвідоміша страва – це som tam: зелена папайя перетирається із соком лайма, часником, рибним соусом із додаванням сушених креветок, чері й смаженого арахісу. Саме на північному сході ви спробуєте найсмачнішу смажену на грилі курку в Таїланді – kai yang. М’ясо натирається сумішшю рибного соусу, кореня коріандру й часнику і смажиться на вугіллі. Неодмінно спробуйте також найрізноманітніші салати з м’ясом – це місцевий спеціалітет. 32 / PANORAMA № 10 / 2013
Тепер можна переміститися в центр країни – рисову житницю Таїланду. Так, тут частенько відбуваються повені, але багато води – це багато рису. Саме звідси прийшли найвідоміші страви Таїланду – смажена рисова локшина pad thai, прозорий суп із креветками tom yam і суп з куркою і кокосовим молоком tom kha kai. Саме на цій інформації варто зупинитися докладніше, бо вселенська плутанина, пов’язана з цими двома супами, зрештою має бути вирішена. У нас прийнято називати “том ямом” будь-який гострий суп, що має відношення до Таїланду. Та це неправильно. Tom yam робиться без кокосового молока, але з морепродуктами на курячому бульйоні. А от у tom kha kai якраз використовується кокосове молоко і курка. У вітчизняних закладах (навіть пристойних) цій “дрібниці” не надають особливого значення, тому в меню ви легко можете зустріти кокосовий суп з однією креветкою, гордо іменований “том ямом”. Безумовно, в самому Таїланді є багато нюансів, і ви зможете знайти той чи інший суп з морепродуктами і кокосовим молоком. Але це вже буде не tom yam, а зовсім інша страва. Саме в центральному Таїланді найбільший асортимент зелених карі – і у всіх використовується кокосове молоко, на відміну від півночі. Ключовою відмінністю тайських карі від, скажімо, індійських є те, що в них використовується значно більше свіжих духмяних трав і менше сушених і мелених. Коріандр, галангал, лемонграс – ці та багато інших приправ роблять місцеве карі таким особливим. Ще одна відмінна риса місцевої кухні – найрізноманітніші омлети. ranging from curries to soups and desserts) feature little or no coconut milk. Red meat and vegetables of all sorts, and glutinous rice, are the basis of the northerners’ diet. Various dips (viscous and thick sauces) are often used with vegetables or as a base for many dishes full of greens. The taste of northern Thai cuisine is sour and tart. Many rice dishes are borrowed from neighbouring Laos and Myanmar. For example, glutinous rice goes not only in desserts, like, say, in the centre or the south of the country. The local chefs make rice balls that are dipped in sauces or put directly into other dishes. But crisp rice is not as widespread. Instead, noodles are very popular along with a much lighter curry. We encourage you to try the most famous kinds, such as kaeng yuak (banana palm pith curry) and kaeng khanoon (with jackfruit). For a snack, the locals enjoy sausages. There are many varieties, but the most popular are sai ua, a kind of sausage with pork mince, chilli, garlic, shallots and lemongrass.

The northeast of Thailand repeats some of the culinary traditions of the north but at the same time has its own flavours, influenced by Cambodia and China. The locals fry and bake almost everything, and add spicy chilli even to desserts. Perhaps the most famous dish is called som tam: grated green papaya with limejuice, garlic, fish sauce with dried shrimp, cherry tomatoes and roasted peanuts. The north east is also famous for the most delicious grilled chicken in Thailand – kai yang. The poultry is rubbed with a mixture of fish sauce, coriander root and garlic, and then roasted over charcoal. And a local specialty – one of a plethora of meat salads – tops it all off.

Various Food to Fit Every Taste
Now you can move into the centre of the country – Thailand’s rice breadbasket. Floods occur here very often, but a lot of water means a lot of rice. This is home of the most famous Thai dishes – pad thai (fried rice noodles), tom yam (clear soup with prawns), and tom kha kai (soup with chicken and coconut milk). These deserve some closer attention to resolve the constant confusion between these two soups once and for all. We are used to calling any spicy soup that comes from Thailand tom yam. But that’s incorrect. Tom yam is made without coconut milk, but with seafood in chicken broth. Tom kha kai, on the other hand, is the one that has coconut milk and chicken. In restaurants in Ukraine, even in decent ones, this little detail is often overlooked, and you can find coconut soup with (one) shrimp on the menu, proudly called tom yam. Needless to say, there are a lot of subtle differences across Thailand itself, and you’ll find one soup or another with seafood and coconut milk. But it won’t be tom yam, rather, but rather a completely different dish. Central Thailand has the best choice of green curry – and every variety uses coconut milk, as opposed to the north. The key difference between Thai curry and say, Indian curry, is that the Thai variety uses many more fresh, fragrant herbs and less dried and ground spices. Coriander, galangal, lemongrass – these and many other spices are what make local curry so special. A variety of omelettes is another hallmark of the local cuisine. This is where the Chinese influence is best seen, in the form of tofu, fried noodles, mung beans and potted dishes. Seafood appears on the menu as you go further south, but its true homeland is still the south of Thailand. PANORAMA № 10 / 2013 / 33

The vast coastline reaching up to Malaysia with its phenomenal diversity of marine species defines the food that makes it to the dining tables in the southern regions of the country. oung German apprentice watchmaker German Leon Breitling was obsessed with measuring short periods of time. It is little wonder a chronograph he developed shortly after ending his training started his professional career and laid the foundation for a time-keeping legend. Breitling’s first chronographs were produced in his SaintImier, Switzerland, workshop in 1884. In 1892, he set up the G Leon Breitling SA, Montbrillant Factory in La Chauxde-Fonds. His son Gaston took over the firm when his father died in 1914. Gaston inherited his father’s passion, inventing a chronograph with an independent control button and creating a stopwatch with accuracy of 1/10 of a second. In 1932, the third generation, Gaston’s son, Willy Breitling, took over and the company accompanied the exploits of the aviation pioneers it is linked to.

In the early 1930s, confirming its reputation as a producer of accurate mechanisms resistant to external influences, Breitling expanded its production with onboard chronographs designed for aircraft cockpits. These devices, without which it’s impossible to imagine a safe flight, enjoyed huge demand among the armed forces of various countries, including the Royal Air Force, which equipped its famous fighters with them during World War II. During the 1950-60s, Breitling played a key role in the intense development of commercial aircraft, because its onboard chronographs had become standard on-board equipment: first in propellerdriven aircraft and then in the jets of various aircraft-producing companies. Naturally, the company earned the status of official provider to global aviation. In 1979, due to a crisis, Willy Breitling was forced to sell his family business. New owner Ernest Schneider, a watchmaker and a pilot, strengthened the image of Breitling watches as aviation ones, and cemented their reputation for unsurpassed quality and exquisite design. Up to this day he manages the company together with his son Theodore. Recognised throughout the world, Breitling remains true to aviation, working with elite pilots. Several squads fly on planes painted in Breitling’s corporate colours including the well-known Breitling Jet Team, which demonstrates aerobatics. The company has close links with the most important air shows in the world, such as the famous Reno Air Races (Nevada, USA). In 1993, the International Federation of Aeronautics recognised the Breitling Jet Team as world champions.

The company, whose logo depicts a winged letter “B”, is determined to retain its aviation heritage and associated achievements, which are closely intertwined with its own history. In aviation, reliability is a vital quality, and Breitling demonstrates the same obsession with high quality in all its “instruments for professionals”: this is the world’s only watch brand that tests all mechanisms (mechanical and quartz ones) at COSC, the Swiss institute of chronometry, the benchmark of accuracy and reliability. Celebrations of the 125th anniversary of Breitling in 2009 were marked by another milestone in the history of the company: a basic chronograph caliber that became the basis for most of the collections of the brand. Caliber 01 was developed over five years and includes a patented start, stop and reset system. Today the range of mechanisms produced come in five sizes. “Reserve of energy” potential and additional features are the qualities that distinguish Breitling from its competitors. До 1723 року на його місці знаходилося невеличке портове поселення, в той час, як місто СанКрістобаль-де-ла-Лагуна виконувало адміністративні функції. Пляж Тересітас
континенті, придбати електронні товари, косметику, парфуми, алкоголь і сигарети, адже Санта-Крус, як і інші міста Тенеріфе, – зона безмитної торгівлі. Окрім приємного шопінгу, гостей міста ваблять також славетні пляжі. Більшість туристів засмагають на Тересітас (Playa de las Teresitas) – одному з небагатьох пляжів острова з жовтим піском. Ви спитаєте, а що в цьому такого особливого? А те, що на Канарських островах більшість пляжів вулканічного походження, а отже – з піском чорного кольору. Тересітас сховався від сторонніх очей біля підніжжя гірського масиву Анага за кілька кілометрів на північ від столиці. Як на мене, то це найкрасивіший пляж острова! Уявіть жовтогарячу смужку піску, за якою починається зелена лінія з пальм і хвилеподібних пагорбів. Формою пляж нагадує підкову, яка ніби обіймає блакитні води Атлантичного океану. До речі, пісок сюди у 1970-х роках було спеціально привезено із Сахари, до якої рукою подати. А щоб дорогоцінний “декор” не розмивало, було зведено хвилеріз. З оглядового майданчика, який знаходиться відразу за пляжем, “композиція” виглядає дійсно заворожуюче. Та й сама столиця зачаровує погляд – в оточенні сірих вулканічних ландшафтів вона виглядає маленькою білою цяткою. Особливу увагу привертає футуристична будівля на березі океану, здалеку схожа на оперний театр у Сіднеї або чудернацький космічний корабель. Аудіторіо-де-Тенеріфе (Av. Constitución 1; www.auditoriodetenerife.com) – результат фантазії сучасного іспанського архітектора Сантьяго Калатрави. Того самого майстра, який збудував комплекс “Місто мистецтв й наук” у Валенсії. Зведений десять років тому, Аудіторіо-де-Тенеріфе не перестає дивувати незвичними формами, особливо це стосується звислого над конструкцією округлого даху, який сягає 100 метрів у довжину! Будівля вважається символом столиці Тенеріфе.

It’s no natural phenomenon – the sand was brought here from the Sahara desert in the 1970s and a breakwater was built to prevent the precious sand from washing away into the sea. Artificial it may be, but it looks astonishing from the viewing deck just above the beach and it is an oasis in the island’s grey volcanic landscape. Arresting sights can be found in Santa Cruz as well, such as a waterfront structure that resembles the Sydney Opera house. Auditorio de Tenerife (Av. Constitución 1; www.auditoriodetenerife.com) is the result of the creative imagination of Santiago Calatrava, a famous contemporary architect – the same architect that designed the City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia. Built 10 years ago, Auditorio de Tenerife never ceases to amaze people with its unusual form, especially the 100-metre long rounded roof hanging over the building. It creates a majestic profile, and the auditorium has become an architectural symbol of the city, the island of Tenerife and the Canary Islands. It is also regarded as the finest modern building on the Canary Islands and one of the most emblematic buildings of Spanish architecture.

am going to confess to a rather odd habit: before travelling to a new country, I always find it on a map and make up a nickname for it depending on its shape. And, well, Tenerife reminded me of… a duck. It’s an unexpected coincidence, considering that the archipelago’s name is drawn from another bird – the canary. This double analogy piqued my interest, and I couldn’t wait to discover and explore this birdlike landmass.
An Unusual Capital
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the starting point of my journey and, to continue my duck analogy, is located on the duck’s chin. The city is co-capital of the archipelago, sharing that status with Las Palmas, the Canary Islands’ largest city, located on the neighbouring Gran Canaria. It’s unusual to see such a small capital – a city with only 222,000 inhabitants. Still, Santa Cruz, as the locals call it, looks like a metropolis compared to other towns of the island and comes with all the trappings of a large city: skyscrapers, traffic jams and bustle – albeit on a condensed scale. And being a tourist hub you get the resulting juxtaposition of locals and visitors. It’s curious to watch locals in business attire hurrying to work as tourists stroll around central streets, rest near the exquisite fountain at Plaza de España, the city’s central square, or shop ‘til they drop due to the duty-free trade zone status of Santa Cruz, and the whole archipelago. Besides great shopping, visitors love the island’s famed beaches. Most take to the sands of Playa de Las Teresitas – one of the island’s few yellow-sand beaches. This is because the majority of the Canary Islands’ beaches are of volcanic origin, thus black in colour. Teresitas is hidden from prying eyes at the foot of the Anaga mountain chain, several kilometres north of the capital, and I agree with the scores of people who flock there – this is the most beautiful beach of Tenerife. Santa Cruz de Tenerife is co-capital of the archipelago, sharing that status with Las Palmas functions. The site of La Laguna was strategic. When Luis Alonso de Lugo reached the shores of Tenerife in 1494, he set a cross at the place of the future Santa Cruz (Holy Cross in Spanish), following the tradition of the Spanish Conquistadors. From there, the conqueror continued his march across Tenerife. He decided to found the capital deep inside the island to protect it from pirates, and his strategy turned out to be wise – the historic centre of the town has survived until now, almost in its original form. By the way, Alonso de Lugo is buried in Tenerife’s main cathedral in La Laguna. As you visit the former capital, you get a feel for its colonial atmosphere right away. It reeks of history and establishment – it is said there are no mansions and estates as luxurious as those in the city. However, there is a youthful side to this city. La Laguna also has a vibrant student spirit and is home to the oldest university on the Canary Islands, the University of San Fernando de La Laguna. It’s hard for PANORAMA № 10 / 2013 / 45

До іспанського вторгнення Канарські острови заселяли гуанчі – корінні мешканці. Найяскравіша згадка про загадкових остров’ян знаходиться неподалік Санта-Крус, в місті Гуїмар. Вирушаючи туди, я й уявити не могла, що побачу там справжні піраміди… А тим паче шість! Ступінчасті кам’яні споруди були ретельно досліджені 46 / PANORAMA № 10 / 2013

Тоді він зробив сенсаційне відкриття, стверджуючи, що місцеві піраміди мають багато схожих характеристик з тими, які знаходяться в Мексиці, Перу та Єгипті. На підтвердження цієї гіпотези науковець у 1977 році перетнув океан на примітивному папірусному човні “Ра”, подібному до того, який використовували древні гуанчі. Єдиної версії, коли і ким були збудовані піраміди, немає. Тим цікавіше здійснити прогулянку між загадковими конструкціями, які лише в 1998 році стали доступними для огляду, коли Тур Хейєрдал разом з товаришем Фредом Олсеном за власні кошти відкрили етнологічний парк Гуїмар загальною площею 65 000 кв. м.

The vews of the Teide National Park are truly impressive
from the Passat winds blowing between the tropics throughout the year, allowing cultural exchange between the peoples on both sides of the Atlantic ocean. To prove his hypothesis, the scientist crossed the ocean in 1977 using a primitive papyrus boat called “Ra” similar to those used by the Guanches. There is no definitive version about who built the pyramids or when, but that makes a walk between these mysterious structures all the more interesting. By the way, the latter opened to the public only in 1998, when Heyerdahl, together with his friend Fred Olsen, opened the 65,000 square kilometre Pyramids of Güímar Ethnologic Park – all at their own cost.

In the language of the ancient Guanches, the name Tenerife means “snow mountain”, and it’s not hard to guess to which mountain the island owes its name – Teide, Spain’s highest mountain. It is 3,718 metres above sea level, and 7,500 metres from the ocean floor! The natives believed that Teide both held up the sky and had the gates of hell hidden in it. Most likely, this was due to their witnessing the volcano erupt, as did Christopher Columbus who first documented an eruption in 1492, starting an accurate record of all eruptions since then. Once upon a time, it took the German scientist Wilhelm von Humboldt 29 hours to ascend to the top of Teide. Now, you can do it in a few hours thanks to a sealed road leading to the top. Yet, sometimes, especially in winter, weather conditions can prevent adventurers from getting to the summit. We were lucky – or so we thought. Without any concern we entered the national park, which since 1954 has protected the volcano, which is 48 kilometres in diameter. I was amazed by the absence of other tourists – there was nobody besides us on the road. As we passed the 3,000 metre mark, we were enveloped in a fluffy blanket of clouds. Usually, you can easily reach the top using a cable car. A wonderful panorama of all four islands opens from here on a clear day. But we could only see the peak of the dormant volcano covered with snow.

Mysterious Pyramids
Before the Spanish colonisation, the island was inhabited by Guanches – the island’s indigenous people. The most memorable artefact of the islanders is found near Santa Cruz, in the town of Güímar. I would never have dreamed to see pyramids so far from Egypt, but I did – six in fact! These terraced stone structures were researched in great detail by Thor Heyerdahl, a well-known Norwegian ethnographer and explorer. After his studies, he made the incredible discovery that the local pyramids have much in common with those standing in Mexico, Peru and even Egypt. Thus Heyerdahl hypothesised that a naval route between America and the Mediterranean passed through the Canary Islands long before Columbus. The route benefited PANORAMA № 10 / 2013 / 47
Within several minutes, even the peak was hidden from sight and we were caught in a snowstorm. We didn’t expect it, and weren’t prepared, as our car had summer tyres. Even a turtle could move faster than we did. In hindsight, I think it was best that I couldn’t see those sharp mountain bends with steep drops. At 10 kilometres per hour, we edged gingerly down the mountain. As the snow eased, we started to see the road signs again and the road regained its usual colour. The next day we found out the roads to Teide were closed.

Мене здивувала відсутність інших туристів – окрім нас, на дорозі більше не було нікого. Коли ми здолали позначку в 3000 метрів, весь острів сховався за пухкою периною із хмар. Зазвичай до вершини можна дістатися на фунікулері. В ясний день звідти відкривається панорама чотирьох сусідніх островів. Проте ми встигли побачити лише шапку згаслого вулкану, вкритого снігом. А через кілька хвилин і вона сховалася з виду. Не встигли ми як слід надивитися на Тейде й оточуючий інопланетний пейзаж, як раптово розпочався справжній снігопад. Такого сюрпризу від погоди не очікували ні ми, ні наш автомобіль, “одягнений” у літні шини. Черепаха і та швидше рухалася, аніж ми. Зараз я навіть радію, що тоді через сніг не було видно тих крутих поворотів. На швидкості 10 кілометрів на годину наш автомобіль помалу збавляв висоту. Пам’ятаю, як снігопад поступово затихав, як знову стало видно дорожні знаки, а дорога набула звичного кольору. Наступного дня ми дізналися, що дороги до Тейде перекрили.

La Gomera, for instance, another island which, at 32 kilometres, is the closest to Tenerife. A ferry from Los Cristianos goes there several times per day. According to a legend, this was Columbus’ last stop on his way to the New World. La Gomera is one of the smallest islands of the Canary Island Archipelago. However, I somewhat underestimated its size – even my three days weren’t enough to see and experience all it has to offer. One experience is the language – the ancient el silbo dialect. The natives invented remote communication far before the invention of the telephone. Instead of using regular words, they used… whistling. In this unique way they would communicate with each other from the high and steep hills covering the entire island. The sound of whistling could reach up to 4 kilometres, so it served as the perfect warning signal for local residents. Today, you can hear el silbo in separate restaurants where it’s specially demonstrated to tourists. The local cuisine is the most delicious of all the cuisines of the Canary Islands and is something La Gomera is especially proud of. he Brothers Grimm collected German fairytales, which resulted in a book published in 1812, called The Children’s and Household Tales. It included 83 stories about princes and princesses, evil wizards and witches – that is, everything that stirs the imagination of readers young and old. On the occasion of the anniversary of the book’s publication, which is celebrated through to the end of 2013, Germany invites you to walk the 600-kilometre Fairytale Route, which runs from Hanau, the birthplace of the brothers, to Bremen.
The Spirit of Travel
The story of the Brothers Grimm starts 30 kilometres from one of Europe’s largest airports, Frankfurt am Main. It was there, in the town of Hanau (www.hanau. de), where Jacob and Wilhelm were born, on 4 January 1785 and 24 February 1786 respectively. The brothers’ grandfather and great-grandfather were priests, and their father was a lawyer. Their grandfather was famous for his stirring sermons in the local church of St Mary. The residents of Hanau are extremely proud of their countrymen, and honoured their memory back in 1896, placing a monument to the storytellers on the town’s main square. In 1791, the brothers’ family moved to the town of Steinau, where their father found work as a district magistrate, and they lived a life of privilege in the town council building. When the unexpected death of the head of the family forced them to leave the luxurious 1562 mansion, the happy childhood of both brothers, who had just turned 10 and 11 years, gave way to poverty and deprivation. This difficult time is chronicled in the museum located in the same building where the future linguists lived (Brüder-Grimm-Straße 80, www.museum-steinau.de). The brothers spent their student years in Marburg. In their letters they often described the town as “the castle on the hill”. The medieval town still fascinates people with its scale, but in those days it could apparently take your breath away. The brothers spent their free time mostly immersed in reading and the medieval charm of the town had an influence: it was in Marburg where the young men became interested in fairytales and legends. During their lifetime, the brothers moved house frequently. However, Kassel (www.kassel-marketing.de), in Hesse State in central Germany, became the longestserving home for the Brothers Grimm. The storytellers lived here for more than 40 years, from 1798 through to 1841. The town marked their longevity as residents with a monument on the square named after the brothers. Working as librarians in Kassel, the Grimms gathered and rewrote around 200 fairytales and legends. However, the main source of information for them was not the archives, but the people. Many fairytales were told to them by Kassel resident Dorothea Wimann. She lived in the outskirts of the town in the house where the Brauhaus Brewery still operates. Many people mistakenly believe that the Brothers Grimm were the authors of their fairytales. In fact, these stories had been told by German people for centuries, passed down, in an oral tradition, from generation to generation. Over time, the spoken legends got gradually forgotten and lost and it was the Brothers Grimm who came to their rescue. Jacob and Wilhelm began to keep notes of folk stories while travelling through Hesse in 1807. The stories were taken from villagers, friends and acquaintances. One of the first stories, recorded by Wilhelm, was The Servant of Our Lady. It was told by the pharmacist’s daughter Margareta Wild from Kassel, who introduced Wilhelm to her aunt and his future wife, Dorothea Wild. In the case of this couple, the man didn’t have to invent tales – this duty was literally fulfilled by his wife. From Dorothea, the Brothers Grimm heard the fairytales Mother Hulda, The Wishing-Table, the Gold-Ass, and the Cudgel in the Sac, as well as Hansel and Gretel. Among the other tellers of the fairytales are the unknown shepherd “of the bald peaks at Hekster” and the sergeant Johann Friedrich Krause. The son of a pastor and the teacher at the Gymnasium in Kassel, Ferdinand Siebert told the brothers about Snow White, and an “old Maria” shared with the Grimms such tales as Sleeping Beauty, Thumbling (Tom Thumb), Brother and Sister, and The Girl Without Hands – about 12 of her fairytales were included in the brothers’ collection, among the most famous of which is Little Red Riding Hood. According to one of the versions, the tale is rooted in the Schwalm region, where in the 18th century unmarried girls had to wear a pink hat.
From Nation to Nation
After five years, the brothers’ collective work resulted in a complete manuscript, which was ready in 1810. But before the world became acquainted with the fairytales of German people, there appeared a threat. According to the laws of the fairytale genre there always has to be evil, and true to form a villain entered the brothers’ story. This was their friend, writer Clemens Brentano, who asked to read the book before it was published. Shokingly, they heard no critique from him; in fact, he didn’t even return the manuscript. The Brothers Grimm suspected that something was wrong and published their book in a hurry before the “traitor” could beat them to it. On 20 December 1812, the first volume of

fairytales was published. That’s the story you already know. What you don’t know is the first edition of the fairytales was published in Berlin in a run of only 900 copies. The edition included only 83 of the 200 stories that have survived to our times. However, after two years, the selection of fairytales acquired an additional 70 new stories, and during the lifetimes of the Brothers Grimm their book went to six editions. As for the first manuscript kept by Clemens Brentano, it was miraculously recovered many years after the death of the brothers. It was found in the monastery of Elenberg in Alsace, and that’s how it got its name – The Elenberg Manuscript. It included 49 fairytales, which together with the rest of stories were included on the International Registry List of UNESCO in 2005.
Fairytale Route
Germany is famous for its creative tourist routes. One of them is called the Romantic Route, and another bears the name of the Wine Road, but the German Fairytale Route (www.deutsche-maerchenstrasse.com) surpasses all with its originality. It winds its way not only through the towns and villages where the Brothers Grimm lived and worked, but also through old medieval towns, many of them on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. Вона проходить не лише повз міста й села, де жили і творили брати Грімм, а й повз старовинні середньовічні містечка, значна частина яких внесена до всесвітньої культурної спадщини ЮНЕСКО. Їхня атмосфера допомагає відвідувачам поринути у світ казок. Один із найстаріших туристичних маршрутів країни, створений у 1975 році, пролягає повз замки, де, за легендою, відбувалася дія казок “Попелюшка”, “Рапунцель” і “Білосніжка”. Another famous fairytale heroine, Cinderella, has brought fame to the town of Polly. The remains of an old fortress on a hill are believed to be the place where she lived after her wedding with the prince, with whom fate brought her together after she lost a crystal shoe on the stairs. Over time, the magnificent palace of the fairytale couple has unfortunately turned into a “pumpkin”, that is, into no less attractive ruins. In Trendelburg once upon a time lived a girl called Rapunzel, who lowered her golden braids to a prince from a high tower. If in your childhood you liked the story of Mother Hulda, you should stay in the towns of Heiligentadt and Göttingen overlooking the mountain chain of Hoher-Meisner. According to the fairytale, somewhere among these white peaks lives an old witch, who she shakes up her snow feather bed, causing fluffy snow to fall across the world.
A Happy Ending
The 600-kilometre-long literary trip finishes in Bremen (www.bremen-tourism.de). Thanks to the Brothers Grimm, the city has been associated for a long time

Трохи за сорок
Як не парадоксально це звучить, “Молодість” має поважний вік – цьогоріч фестивалю виповнюється 43 роки. Все розпочалося в 70-ті минулого століття зі щорічних показів короткометражок студентів кінофакультету Київського державного інституту театрального мистецтва. Згодом фестиваль розрісся, а програма збагатилася іноземними стрічками молодих режисерів. За останнє десятиліття географія фестивалю охопила чи не всі континенти, з’явилася також насичена позаконкурсна програма.

he Molodist Film Festival has become the most important event in the Ukrainian film industry and has made waves internationally as a platform for filmmakers to launch their careers. The festival has marked the debut of now renowned directors Fred Kelemen, Tom Tykwer, Danny Boyle, Jacques Audiard, Francois Ozon, Stephen Daldry, and many others. in 1997 with his debut Life of Jesus – two years later he would receive the Palme d’Or at Cannes for his second directorial work Humanity. Alain Berliner won best fulllength debut at Molodist for My Life in Pink and would go on to win a Golden Globe for best foreign language film. Спеціальнем гостем 43-ї “Молодості” стане австрійський режисер, сценарист та продюсер Ульріх Зайдль. В рамках фестивалю буде проведено найповніший за всю історію ретроспективний показ його стрічок. Не обійдеться і без контроверсійної трилогії “Рай”. Враження від неї доповнить фотовиставка “Любов. Віра. Надія” – 43 фотографії, на яких відображено сучасний світ з його кризою справжності. Ще одна ретроспективна програма буде присвячена століттю з дня народження режисерів Стенлі Крамера та Рене Клемана, акторок Вів’єн Лі та Марікки Рьокк, драматурга Ірвіна Шоу та інших знакових для світового кінематографу персон. Фільмом-відкриттям фестивалю стане картина живого класика польського кінематографа Анджея Вайди “Валенса. Людина надії”. Фільм оповідає історію польського соціал-демократичного лідера Леха Валенси, що стояв на чолі руху “Солідарність” та був удостоєний Нобелівської премії миру.

Тож глядач зможе побачити не лише Ночі національного короткого метру – окрема радість традиційний київський колорит, а й відмітити, як для кіноманів. As paradoxical as it sounds, Molodist (meaning “youth” in Ukrainian) celebrates its 43rd birthday this year. It started with the yearly screenings of short films by the students from the filmmaking faculty at Kiev State Theatrical Institute. Later, the festival grew, and in the 1980s included works by young filmmakers from abroad with directordebutants from Bulgaria, Georgia, Armenia, and Russia, while perestroika led to an era of filmmakers from the Baltic States, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Germany. Into the 90s and the new millennium, the festival’s geography grew to include almost all continents. A very dynamic non-contest programme appeared as well. But it is within the competition part of the festival that possible modern cinematic masterpieces are to be found and contestants may go on to become classic filmmakers. Molodist festival brings with it dedicated film buffs. They come to see famous directors presenting their films, conducting workshops, and eagerly, or sometimes wearily, chatting before a screening – all of this helps participants get closer to the magic of the cinema. At different times, the festival’s guests have included Ettore Scola, Kim Ki-duk, Roman Polanski, Alexander Sokurov, Jos Stelling, Bruce LaBruce, Tony Gatlif, Leos Carax and many other iconic personalities of modern cinema – both mainstream and counter-cultural.

The festival lasts almost 24 hours a day. Mornings start with contest films while evenings end with loud premieres and great retrospectives, and real film addicts will enjoy short film collections running until sunrise. National short film nights are yet another reason for filmmakers to love Molodist. Five hours of non-stop selections from Germany and France will enthral moviegoers. Usually these screenings take place at Kiev Cinema and end with lively early morning discussions near the 24/7 McDonald’s window across the road.
This Time
The special guest of this year’s Molodist will be Austrian filmmaker, screenwriter and producer Ulrich Siedl. Festivalgoers will be treated to a major retrospective of his films, including the controversial Paradise trilogy. Complementing the moving images on screen will be static images in the form of the photo exhibition Love. Faith. Hope – 43 photos, which reflect the world’s crisis of authenticity. One retrospective programme will be dedicated to the 100 th anniversary of the births of film directors Stanley Kramer and René Clément, actresses Vivien Leigh and Marika Rökk, playwright Irwin Shaw and other outstanding personalities from the world of cinema. Opening the festival will be Wałęsa – a new biopic by living legend of the Polish cinema Andrzej Wajda. The movie tells the story of Lech Wałęsa, Polish politician and human-rights activist, who won the Novel Peace Prize in 1983. The spice of this year’s festival will be an open-air screening of Za Dvoma Zaytsiamy, a treasure of Ukrainian classic cinema, made in 1961 by Victor Ivanov. This time, it will be shown in its recently found original Ukrainianlanguage version. The place of this screening will be one of Kiev’s best-known historic and cultural locations – Andriivsky Descent, the place where the movie was shot, allowing viewers to see how these places have changed since the time when the film’s characters used to live there. Latvian band BRAINSTORM will visit Ukraine in November to present their new album Seagulls on the Roof (Another Still Life). The musicians will perform on 11 November in Donetsk, 12 November in Kharkov, 14 November in Odessa and 15 November in Kiev. The concerts in Ukraine were preceded by a world tour that took in more than 30 cities. Established in 1989, the band became famous outside its native Latvia in 2000 after winning third place at the Eurovision Song Contest. Треба лишень на офіційному вебсайті авіакомпанії www.flyuia.com зайти в розділ “Онлайн-реєстрація”, ввести своє прізвище та код бронювання або номер електронного квитка у відповідні поля і вибрати зручне для себе місце в салоні літака. Після завершення процедури онлайн-реєстрації на вказану вами адресу електронної пошти надійде посадковий талон із спеціальним штрих-кодом. Видрукуйте цей документ у двох примірниках і під час посадки до літака пред’явіть працівникові МАУ. Скористатися послугою віддаленої реєстрації можуть всі бажаючі, крім пасажирів до 12 років, які подорожують без супроводу дорослих; пасажирів із дітьми до 2 років, які не займають окремого місця; пасажирів, які потребують спеціальних послуг або медичної допомоги; пасажирів, які подорожують групою 10 і більше осіб. Онлайнреєстрація доступна для індивідуальних бронювань до 9 пасажирів. Онлайн-реєстрація відкривається за 23 години і закінчується за 2 години до вильоту рейсу за розкладом. Така послуга можлива тільки на власних рейсах МАУ (трицифрові номери рейсів, наприклад, PS101). Пасажири, які подорожують з багажем, також можуть скористатися послугою віддаленої реєстрації. Після прибуття в аеропорт вони мають здати багаж біля спеціальної стійки реєстрації багажу (baggage drop point). Прийом багажу закінчується за 40 хвилин до вильоту рейсу за розкладом. На даний час послуга онлайн-реєстрації доступна для пасажирів рейсів МАУ, які подорожують з Києва, а також Алмати, Амстердама, Астани, Баку, Берліна, Бішкека, Брюсселя, Відня, Дніпропетровська, Донецька, Єкатеринбурга, Єревана, Женеви, Калінінграда, Ларнаки, Лондона (Гатвік), Лісабона, Львова, Мілана, Москви (Домодєдово, Шереметьєво), Одеси, Праги, Рима, СанктПетербурга, Сімферополя, Стамбула, Тбілісі, Тель-Авіва, Франкфурта, Цюріха, Харкова. Онлайн-реєстрація на рейси по вильоту із Батумі та Афін тимчасово недоступна. Перед вильотом із Баку та Одеси пасажирам, які пройшли процедуру віддаленої реєстрації, необхідно обміняти електронний посадковий талон на стандартний на стійці реєстрації в аеропорті.
EXTENDED WEB CHECK-IN OPPORTUNITIES In August, Ukraine International Airlines further extended web check-in opportunities for passengers. From now on UIA passengers departing from Warsaw, Vilnius, Munich, Nizhnevartovsk, Samara and Sochi are able to complete their check-in procedure online. Any passenger wanting to take advantage of web checkin should visit UIA’s website www.flyuia.com, entering their surname, e-ticket number or booking reference, and personally choose a seat. As soon as the web check-in procedure is completed, the passenger receives an email with his boarding pass attached. Containing a special bar code, this e-boarding pass is to be presented to UIA staff when boarding. Web check-in is not available for passengers travelling with an infant under the age of two, unaccompanied minors up to 12 years old, passengers requiring special assistance, and groups of 10 and more passengers. This service allows checking-in a group of up to nine passengers with a single booking. Web check-in opens 23 hours and closes two hours prior to scheduled departure time. This service is available only for UIA’s own flights (three-digit number flights, such as PS101). A passenger with baggage to be checked in can also benefit from the web check-in service. Upon arriving at the airport a passenger should proceed to the drop-off point to check in his or her baggage. The deadline for baggage drop-off corresponds to the check-in deadline of the flight – 40 minutes prior to scheduled departure. Web check-in service is currently available for UIA passengers departing from Kiev, Almaty, Amsterdam, Astana, Baku, Batumi, Berlin, Bishkek, Brussels, Vienna, Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Yekaterinburg, Yerevan, Geneva, Istanbul, Kaliningrad, Larnaca, London (Gatwick Airport), Lisbon, Lvov, Milan, Moscow (Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo International airports), Odessa, Prague, Rome, St Petersburg, Simferopol, Tbilisi, Tel Aviv, Frankfurt, and Zurich. Web check-in service is also available for passengers departing from Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, and Odessa – on UIA non-stop flights to Tel Aviv and Istanbul, as well as on flights from Kharkov to Kiev. Web check-in for flights departing from Batumi and Athens is temporarily unavailable. Before departing from Baku and Odessa, passengers that have completed the web check-in procedure, should change their e-boarding pass for a standard boarding pass at a check-in counter at the airport.

Авіакомпанія МАУ вітає нового партнера – “АЗЕРБАЙДЖАНСЬКі АВІАЛІНІї” Авіакомпанії “Міжнародні Авіалінії України” та “Азербайджанські авіалінії” (АZАL) підписали договір про спільну експлуатацію повітряної лінії Київ – Баку. Отже, у період зимової навігації (з 27 жовтня 2013 року до 29 березня 2014 року) кількість польотів між Києвом і Баку зросте до восьми на тиждень. Усі рейси виконуються літаками “Боїнг-737” та “Аеробус-320”. Код-шерингова угода відкриває пасажирам авіакомпанії АZАL доступ до розгалуженої маршрутної мережі провідного українського авіаперевізника, а для пасажирів МАУ з регіонів України та інших пунктів за кордоном гарантує комфортну повітряну подорож через Київ до столиці Азербайджану. У Міжнародному аеропорту “Бориспіль” рейси з Баку оптимально стикуються з усіма рейсами МАУ, що вилітають з Києва до інших міст України, а також до столиць і ключових пунктів Європи, країн СНД та Близького Сходу. Ukraine International Airlines and Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) have concluded a code-share agreement to increase flights to and from Kiev and Baku to eight times weekly for the winter 2013/2014 schedule (from 27 October 2013 through to 29 March 2014). The flights will operate on modern Boeing-737 and Airbus-320 aircraft. The agreement provides UIA passengers from the cities of Ukraine and other points of UIA’s route network with twice as many opportunities to fly to the capital of Azerbaijan via Kiev Boryspil International Airport. The code-share agreement not only increases the frequency of UIA-coded service between the two capitals but also provides AZAL passengers access to UIA’s route network, with all UIA-coded flights departing from Kiev to the cities of Ukraine as well as capitals and key cities of Europe, the United Arab Emirates, CIS countries, and the Middle East. The code-share agreement is yet another step towards UIA’s meeting passenger demand, with double the opportunities to travel between Kiev and Baku, for business, to visit relatives or to discover Azerbaijan. We welcome our new partner – Azerbaijan Airlines – and hope both Ukrainian passengers heading to Baku and passengers from Azerbaijan travelling to Kiev and beyond will appreciate the benefits of the agreement.

Якщо у вашому багажі НЕМАЄ речей, що підлягають декларуванню або необхідні вам під час подорожі: • Зареєструйте багаж до кінцевого пункту призначення та отримайте посадковий талон на стикувальний рейс, що вилітає з аеропорту “Бориспіль“. • Після прибуття в аеропорт «Бориспіль» прямуйте з літака до автобуса “МАУ ТРАНСФЕР“, що доставить вас до терміналу D. • У терміналі D пройдіть контроль на авіаційну безпеку та паспортний контроль для продовження подорожі.

If you DO NOT HAVE any items to declare in your baggage or required for your journey: • Check-in your baggage to the final destination and receive your second boarding pass for your connecting flight departing from Kiev Boryspil International Airport. • Upon arrival at Kiev Boryspil Airport proceed from the aircraft to a UIA TRANSFER bus, which will take you to Terminal D. • At Terminal D, proceed to security and passport controls to continue your journey.

МИТНI ТА IММIГРАЦIЙНI ПРАВИЛА Перетин кордону. В аеропорту “Бориспіль” діє спрощена схема митного контролю – пасажири самостійно вирішують, декларувати їм товари чи ні.
ЗЕЛЕНИЙ КОРИДОР
Резиденти та нерезиденти мають право скористатися “зеленим коридором” без заповнення митної деклаpації, якщо вони:
1. НЕ МАЮТЬ:
• Готівки, що належить юридичній особі. • Банківських металiв. • Зброї, вибухових, наркотичних, психотропних,
отруйних, сильнодіючих речовин та ліків.
• Радіоактивних матеріалів. • Предметів старовини і миcтецтва, музичних
інструментів. • Друкованих видань (до 1953 року випуску), аудіо- та аудіовізуальних матеріалів, інших носіїв інформації, обіг якої заборонений законодавством України. • Об’єктів флори, фауни, їх частин і одержаної з них продукції. • Товарів в обсягах, що підлягають оподаткувaнню (з умовами оподаткування Ви можете ознайомитися на стендах у залі отримання багажу) (для відльоту).
2. МАЮТЬ НЕ БІЛЬШЕ:
• Готівки – еквівалент €10 000, у тому числі валюти
України та дорожних чеків (відліт і приліт).
• Горілчаних виробів – 1 літр; вина – 2 літри;
пива – 5 літрів; тютюнових виробів – 200 цигарок (або 200 г); продуктів харчування для власного споживання – на суму €50, крім продукції тваринного походження (приліт).
За наявності предметів, зазначених у п.1, та/або перевищення суми, зазначеної в п.2, митне оформлення здійснюється в режимі “червоного” коридору із заповненням митної декларації.
УВАГА! Порушення вимог декларування предметів тягне за собою адміністративну або кримінальну відповідальність.
Червоний коридор
При вивезенні резидентами/нерезидентами України суми, що перевищує зазначені норми, але не більш як €10 000 або еквівалента цієї суми в іншій валюті, потрібно заповнити митну декларацію. Ви маєте заповнити митну декларацію, якщо ввозите в Україну національну валюту в сумі, що перевищує в еквіваленті €10 000 євро, але, згідно з митними правилами, вона не повинна перевищувати тiєї суми в гривнях, що була вивезена раніше з України на законних підставах. Також фізичні особи мають право ввозити і вивозити з України банківські метали вагою не більш як 500 г у вигляді зливків і монет за письмового декларування. Якщо вага банківських металів перевищує 500 г,
фізичні особи мають право вивозити їх за межі України на підставі індивідуальної ліцензії та на умовах письмового декларування. Також треба вносити в митну декларацію всі речі, що підлягають декларуванню. По детальнiшу інформацію звертайтеся на офіційний сайт Державної митної служби України www.customs.gov.ua
Імміграційні правила. Громадяни ЄС, Швей-
царської Конфедерації, Князівства Ліхтенштейн, Князівства Андорра, Князівства Монако, Держави-міста Ватикан, Республіки Ісландія, Королівства Норвегія, Республіки Сан-Марино, США, Канади та Японії мають право безвізового в’їзду в Україну за умови перебування в країні не більш як 90 днів та за пред’явлення лише чинного паспорта (Увага! Будь-які інші посвідчення та документи не дають права на в’їзд!) Решта іноземних громадян для в’їзду на територію України повинні мати ВІЗУ. При в’їзді в Україну громадяни Російської Федерації з внутрішніми паспортами мають заповнити імміграційну картку, яку можна отримати в залі прибуття аеропорту “Бориспіль”. Імміграційна картка разом з паспортом подається посадовцеві органів охорони державного кордону під час проходження паспортного контролю. УВАГА! Зберігайте імміграційну картку протягом усього часу перебування в Українi, адже при вiдльотi вас попросять її пред’явити.

Residents and non-residents may go through the “green channel” without filling in a customs declaration form in the following cases: • Currency belonging to a legal entity. • Precious metals (ingots). • Weapons, explosives, narcotics, psychotropic, poi-
sonous and dangerous substances or medication. • Radioactive materials. • Historic or artistic materials, musical instruments. • Printed items (issued before 1953), audio and audiovisual materials, or other information-carrying media containing information, the circulation of which is prohibited by the Laws of Ukraine. • Flora or fauna, their components, or by-products. • Goods in taxable quantities (get acquainted with taxation rules on the stands in the luggage check room) (applicable to departures only).

Red Channel
Residents and non-residents must declare any cash sum to be taken out in excess of the above-mentioned figures. A Customs declaration form must also be filled in if you bring in more than €10,000 or the equivalent in national currency. Sums brought into Ukraine may not exceed the amount of local currency previously taken out of the country. Persons have a right to bring in or take out of Ukraine up to 500 grammes in precious metals (ingots or coins), provided they fill in a declaration form. Precious metals exceeding 500 grammes, may be taken through Ukrainian Customs only when the passenger has a valid individual export license and fills in a declaration form.
Any item subject to declaration must be declared on a Customs form. For more details, please visit the official web site of the State Customs Service of Ukraine at www.customs.gov.ua.
IMMIGRATION FORMALITIES. Citizens of the EU,
the Swiss Confederation, the Kingdom of Liechtenstein, the Principality of Andorra, the Principality of Monaco, the Vatican CityState, the Republic of Iceland, the Kingdom of Norway, the Republic of San Marino, the USA, Canada and Japan may enter Ukraine without a visa, if that their stay in the country does not exceed 90 days. (Please make sure you have a valid passport with you: no other ID document is valid for entry). All other foreign citizens need a visa to enter Ukraine. Upon entering Ukraine, citizens of the Russian Federation with internal passports must fill out immigration cards, available at the Arrivals Hall of the Boryspil Airport ahead of the immigration check points. Present this card with your passport to the immigration officer when going through passport control. attention! Keep your immigration card during your entire stay in Ukraine, as you will be asked to present it upon leaving the country.

ВАЖЛИВА ІНФОРМАЦІЯ ДЛЯ ПАСАЖИРІВ
В аеропортах, розташованих на території країн ЄС, а також Норвегії, Ісландії та Швейцарії, діють обмеження на перевезення рідин, гелів та аерозолей в ручній поклажі авіапасажирів. Проносити на борт рідини, гелі й аерозолі дозволяється за умови, якщо вони запаковані в індивідуальні ємності об’ємом не більш як 100 мл і поміщені у прозорий пластиковий пакет багаторазового склеювання об’ємом не більш як 1 літр на одного пасажира (див. малюнок).
Пасажирам дозволяється: • пакувати рідкі речовини в зареєстрований багаж; • перевозити в ручній поклажі ліки та дієтичні засоби, у т.ч. їжу для малюків для використання під час подорожі;

airports of EU countries, as well as Norway, Iceland and Switzerland. All liquids, gels and sprays in your hand baggage must be in individual containers with a maximum capacity of 100 millilitres each. You must pack
these containers in one transparent, re-sealable plastic bag of not more than one litre capacity per passenger (see image above). Restrictions are imposed on water and other drinks, soups, syrups; creams, lotions and oils; perfumes; sprays; gels, including hair and shower gels; pressurised container contents, including; shaving foam, other foams and deodorants; pastes, including toothpaste; liquid-solid mixtures; mascara; any other item of similar consistency. Passengers still can: • pack liquids in checked baggage; • carry in hand luggage medicines and dietary requirements, including baby foods, for use during the trip; • buy liquids such as drinks and perfumes either in an EU airport shop when located beyond the point where you show your boarding pass or on board an aircraft operated by an EU airline. If they are sold in a specially sealed bag, do not open it before you are screened – otherwise the contents may be confiscated at the checkpoint. All these liquids are in addition to the quantities in the re-sealable plastic bag mentioned above (1 litre maximum).
