Hello Everyone, It’s Fall Rally time! I hope you all had a good first month of school. If your experience was anything like mine, you were so busy that it flew by. SATs were today, so now you don’t have to worry about that anymore! In less than a week, we will be rehearsing the script and doing all the final steps to make sure we are ready for Fall Rally. From experience, I can tell you it will be a blast. I am looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday.
The Fall Rally Board meeting is all about- you guessed it!- Fall Rally. We will get together and hear from the Kiwanis Family (including our International Trustee, Shinbee Park!); catch up with new business, most importantly with divisional events; and wrap up the first half special committees. WHEN: 2:00 PM WHERE: East Windsor Holiday Inn 399 Monmouth St, East Windsor, NJ 08520 Packing list: -casual clothes for Saturday -Board Shirt, khakis, costume for Sunday -Checks for chapstick sales -Plans for your divisional event finalized and approved by chairs -Plans for DCON Theme. If you want your theme, be prepared to defend it. I will send more information out about this shortly.
The topic of theme can get quite heated. If you think you have a good theme idea, understand that they should fit certain criteria to make sure the theme is good. Be ready to consider these questions: -Is the theme easily recognizable? -How can we decorate for the theme? -What could be a potential tagline? -Why is it better than every other theme? For reference, here are themes from the past: 2016- 070 License to Serve 2015- Harry Potter, Discover the Magic of Service 2014- Destination Service- around the world theme 2013- Roaring Twenties
Current theme proposals from the survey are: Disney, Wizard of Oz, space, future, superheroes, Bruce Springsteen (very NJ! Props Vanessa), tropical, Alice in Wonderland, Ocean theme/under the SEACon (and we’re at the beach!), wild west, service through the ages, Jurassic Park. Let me know if you have new ideas!
One of our International Vision Partners, Landscape Structures, got a welcomed donation from Minnesota Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway and his Lead the Way Foundation. His foundation donated $75,000 to help cover the cost of a local handicap-accessible playground to help out Baen and Bryce Hurst, two Vikings fans with hurler syndrome. This is the first playground that his charity has supported, and hopes to build plenty more.
