The sportiest drop-top Mercedes of all time, the SLR McLaren Roadster, is fitted by Brabus with more than just a top-quality white carbon-fiber skin. The exterior is treated to an aerodynamics update, engine tuning and custom-tailored 20-inch wheels, which further optimize handling and performance, and the interior adds even more touches of exclusivity. The tuning kit for the 5.5-liter supercharged engine consists of special camshafts and a fuel-cooling system. Power output increases by 24 hp / 18 kW to 650 hp (641 hp SAE net) / 478 kW at 6,500 rpm. Brabus also offers a special clutch-type limited-slip differential with a locking rate of 40 percent for the SLR. It optimizes traction and thus acceleration performance further: The tuned SLR Roadster rockets from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 337 km/h (211 mph). To give the SLR an even more striking appearance while at the same time reducing lift on the front axle, the Brabus designers have developed a front spoiler that is attached to the stock bumper. This aerodynamics component was optimized in the wind tunnel. It is made from exposed carbon fiber, making it especially light and extremely robust. The rear apron is upgraded with a Brabus diffuser, also made from exposed carbon fiber, to replace its production counterpart. The sportier appearance of the SLR Roadster is further characterized by the Brabus Monoblock VI 20-inch Platinum Edition wheels that fill out the wheel arches perfectly. The fully polished three-piece wheels with six double spokes are mounted on the sports car in size 9.5 x20 in front and in size 11.5 x20 on the rear axle. Thanks to their high-tech design—that features a forged aluminum rim and a billet aluminum center—the Brabus 20-inch wheels are lighter than the 19-inch turbine-design wheels optionally available for the SLR ex factory. Exclusive Brabus cockpit design is characterized by precision down to the last detail. The company-own upholstery shop created a striking combination of lipstick-red leather and black Alcantara. brabus leather footwells alone - a special Brabus exclusive - uses some 7,800 meters of the finest red thread. The sport steering wheel for the SLR is a sporty and highly functional Brabus option. The wheel has a flattened bottom for easier entering and exiting and provides optimal grip with its combination of perforated leather and Alcantara. The Brabus steering wheel features buttons integrated into the spokes for manually shifting the gears of the SLR’s automatic transmission without taking the hands off the wheel. Sporty Brabus carbon-fiber applications for dashboard, center console and door trim transfer the racing look of the Brabus exterior components into the interior. In addition to its special paint—identical to the SLR—the ultimate city sports car features a muscular body kit with front spoiler, rocker panels and Brabus Widestar fender flares front and back. With these modifications, the ULTIMATE 112 offers the perfect platform for the powerful Brabus three-cylinder turbo engine. It produces a maximum power output of 112 hp (110 hp SAE net) / 82.4 kW at 5,600 rpm. Even more important for everyday driving is the peak torque of 150 Nm, available on a plateau from 3,330 to 3,900 rpm, an exceptional figure for a car in its class. he Jaguar XKR-S: a lightweight sports coupe that takes the Jaguar sports car experience to a new level. As the fastest production XK to date, it delivers a combination of high-speed performance, dynamic excellence and crafted luxury that is unique to Jaguar. Powered by Jaguar’s acclaimed 4.2-liter V8 supercharged engine, it has been developed for the true Jaguar enthusiast. It is faster and more agile than the XKR, yet retains Jaguar’s signature elegance and quality. Sharing the XKR’s highly advanced lightweight aluminum body architecture, the high performance of the XKR-S is made totally accessible by the enormous reserves of the 4.2-liter all aluminum four-cam supercharged V8’s 420bhp (SAE) and 560Nm of torque. With recalibrated engine management, the XKR-S reaches an electronically limited top speed of 174mph (280kph) – 19mph (30kph) faster than the XKR. This additional performance is made accessible by improved aerodynamics (reduced drag and lift) and unique suspension set-up. Using the same set-up as the XKR, the new XKR-S fea-
tures the class-leading six-speed sequential automatic transmission. It is the ultimate in driving refinement and features the option of ultra-fast manual shifts via steering wheel-mounted paddle shifts. The latter option results in some of the fastest shifting transmissions in the world with shift times measured in milliseconds. rear. Each disc is radially ventilated for maximum cooling and to resist fade even under the hardest use; the brake system is the perfect companion to the XKR-S’s increased top speed. The Alcon R performance brake package uses lightweight monobloc six-piston calipers at the front and four-piston calipers at the rear – each caliper finished in a distinctive red and carrying the R logo. The XKR-S coupe’s dynamic balance focuses on achieving an even more sporting character while retaining the supple ride comfort of the XKR. Its blend of control and refinement begins with the extremely stiff all-aluminum body structure, and a re-tuning of the XKR’s all-wishbone suspension. All of the major suspension parameters are recalibrated, and the XKR-S uses Jaguar’s proven Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) with unique tuning. The limited edition coupé, swathed in Ultimate Black, is identified by the unique XKR-S badge on the rear of the car. The exterior of the XKR-S has been subtly enhanced to make it recognizably different without being overstated. Another significant element in the revised handling package is that the ride height of the XKR-S has been reduced by 10mm compared with that of the XKR, and the XKR-S sits on unique, lightweight 20-inch Vortex forged alloy wheels with bespoke tires. That naturally makes the XKR-S look lower and even more sporting than its brethren, but it has a number of other distinguishing details. he City of St. Petersburg will played host to a gathering of the world’s most exotic cars, motorcycles, aircraft and watercraft on March 28th and 29th. Over 200+ vehicles were on display. The Festivals of Speed, now in it’s Fifth year took take place over two days. Friday, March 28th and Saturday, March 29th. Friday saw a Luxury Lifestyle Jet Port Reception and Sunday featured a display of 200+ exotic automobiles, motorcycles & watercraft displayed throughout the grounds of North Straub Park and the marina. The Friday evening Jet Port Reception took place in a massive 20

aircraft hanger amidst a fabulous display of aircraft, automobiles, motorcycles & race boats. Both vintage and contemporary aircraft attended. Examples included a Gulf stream G5, a vintage Beech 18 with leather and alligator interior, a Piaggio P-180 painted in Ferrari motif, a Legacy, two Falcon 50’s, Cessna 400 as well as models from many other manufacturers. The weekend continued on Saturday with an incredible display of 200+ exotic cars, motorcycles and watercraft placed for display in the park overlooking the turquoise waters of Tampa Bay. Vehicles included models from Bugatti, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Maserati, Porsche, Maybach, Aston-Martin, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Ducati, Bimota, Donzi and many others. A must see was the experimental high speed watercraft called “Sea Phantom”. Rare automotive examples included the Bugatti Pur Sang, one of only five to be made, the 2002 Ferrari Formula One, World Champion car driven by Michael Schumacher, a 1930 Bentley 4.5 litre Vanden Plas Tourer, two “One off” Ferrari’s in triple white and a host of others. The Festivals of Speed allowed attendees to stroll the grounds while enjoying exciting culinary delights and fine wines offered by onsite cafes. This year the event paid tribute to Lamborghini’s 45th anniversary. Lamborghini, Chief test driver, Valentino Balboni came all the way from Italy to help celebrate. A special champagne toast took place
to pay homage to his achievements and was a highlight of the event on Saturday. Entertainment for the day included free drawings to win luxury products including a fine timepiece by Tag Heuer, a strolling saxophonist; a silent auction benefiting the Children’s Dream Fund of St. Petersburg, a lifestyle pavilion with displays of fine wines, cigars, jewelry, a Bang & Olufsen audio/video display as well as many other luxury items. The grand finale was an awards presentation to recognize award-winning vehicles. A rare Ferrari took Best of Show. To wrap things, VIP’s boarded the 100’ ft. Vintage Chris Craft “Le Club Tarpon” for a sunset cruise on the bay. The cruise included cocktails and culinary tasting’s. forcing onlookers to recognize the marque’s rich racing heritage. The 612 Scaglietti is more than an able sports car; it’s a thoroughbred, created in the racing tradition. The V12 engine has a dry sump lubrication system featuring both delivery and scavenge pumps, twin overhead cams, 48 valves, maximum power of 540 hp at 7250 rpm, and maximum torque of 60 kgm at 5250 rpm. The car has a maximum speed of 320 kph, and 0 to 100 kph acceleration of 4.0 seconds. The 6-speed, F1-type gearbox featuring new SuperFast technology cuts gear-shifting times to 100 milliseconds. Courtesy of either the steering wheel-mounted manettino and specific button, the gearbox can easily switch from very high performance situations to city or touring driving. In fact, a special dedicated “atelier” (tailor) area has been set up at the factory in which clients can put together their own bespoke 612 Scaglietti accessory-by-accessory, detail-by-detail. In exactly the same way as they would at a haute couture fashion house, owners can choose details and materials they want for their car in consultation with the Ferrari experts who will actually build it to their exact specifications and tastes. All of these unique new 612 Scagliettis will be built in a dedicated assembly area at the Maranello factory.

This has the dual advantage of giving occupants the feeling of driving along in a drop-top whilst enjoying the comfort and safety of a coupé. However, this is no ordinary panoramic roof. It is made from electrochromic glass, which can be changed at the touch of a button to adjust the levels of sunlight allowed into the cabin. Last year, Ferrari’s revenues increased from the 2,284 million dollars recorded in 2006 to 2,633 million dollars, a jump of 15.3%. A total of 6,465 road cars (track cars excluded) were delivered to end clients, an increase of 14% on 2006. The emerging markets showed the strongest growth. Sales to the Asia-Pacific region rose by 47.2% on

last year’s figure while the Middle East was up by 32.3%. The trend was positive too, however, in more traditional markets such as the United States (+7.7%), the United Kingdom (+8.2%) and Germany (+5.9%). Raptor S5S Concept
Saleen’s all new concept vehicle, the S5S Raptor made its world debut today on the floor of New York City’s Jacob K. Javitz Convention Center. The S5S Raptor unveiling comes amidst several other Saleen announcements including a partnership with Dan Gurney, Rockstar Games and the integration of several first time seen ASC products, featured on two existing Saleen vehicles. We are extremely proud of the Raptor. It is the car that enthusiasts are waiting for America to produce and Saleen is just the company to answer that call, said Paul Wilbur, Saleen President and CEO. The S5S Raptor represents the first ground up vehicle to be conceived by the new Saleen management team and the most extensive demonstration of the combined capabilities of Saleen engineering and the ASC creative team. The Raptor is just a glimpse of things to come from Saleen, says Chief Technical Officer, Chris Theodore. Our company is unique in that we have the experience and knowledge behind some of the most exciting performance vehicles built over the past 20 years. Beyond the S7 Supercar, our team members have been involved in the Viper, Prowler, Ford GT, and the products of Chrysler SRT and Ford’s SVT performance groups. These lessons learned are evident in the Raptor concept and
we will continue to build upon them as the company evolves. The Raptor is a two seat mid-engine super car that competes in size and style with core offerings from the most notable of Italian exotic car makes, but with a segment leading 650hp and 630 lb-ft of torque provided by a Saleen 5.0L Supercharged Engine - the source of the S5S designation. Unlike its competitors, the Raptor is designed to digest cellulosic ethanol. This is the same ethanol formula, states Wilbur, that is the official fuel of the 2008 American Le Mans Race Series and the IRL. The higher octane rating of E85 results in more power. It is a combination that will send the Raptor screaming to 60 mph in a g-force generating 3.2 seconds. With ethanol power, the car is both mean and clean! Saleen’s use of cellulosic ethanol is right for us for two reasons: It maintains consistency with our racing heritage, as many of the racing formats (IRL, American Lemans, etc) are now adopting ethanol as the racing fuel of choice. It also helps our environment through cleaner tailpipe emissions as well as reducing America’s dependency on foreign oil. The Raptor’s hand-built 5.0L cubic inch engine with its patented twinscrew supercharger delivers its 650 horses at 6300 rpm and hits max torque at just 4400 RPM. This power sits on call beneath the knob of a close ratio 6-speed manual, or optional paddle shifting sequential gearbox. It’s a combination that send Raptor’s rigid aluminum chassis screaming to a top speed of over 200 mph. As power is nothing without control, the double wishbone suspension and rack-and-pinion steering of the S5S is augmented by ABS traction control and stability control systems. The brake system features 15-inch (381 mm) front rotors with 6-piston calipers, and 13-inch (308 mm) rear rotors with dual piston calipers for maximum stopping power. Road holding traction is provided by the 275/35 ZR20 and 315/35/ ZR20 Pirelli Rosso tires that wrap the 20 in. forged aluminum front and rear wheels respectively. The unique blackdiamond and carbon fiber finish on the wheels make them as stunning as they are strong.

We spent a great deal of time on the design of the Raptor, says Marques McCammon, General Manager of Saleen Automotive. The vehicle’s bold shoulders are reflective of an aggressive American attitude, reminiscent of Can- Am race car styling cues, but delivered with modern sophistication. If you see a little Chaparral or McLaren design influence in this car, you are right. The aesthetics for the Raptor were developed by ASC Creative Services, America’s largest independent automotive design firm. This vehicle was an aggressively compressed program that combined the traditional methods of three-dimensional clay sculpting with sophisticated digital modeling tools, said Steve Nowicki, ASC Creative Services Director. The vehicle is distinctive in a way that I think the world is going to love. The primary designer on this program was Dave Byron, a CCS graduate and passionate member of ASC’s Design team. Raptor’s unique sun flair yellow paint accentuates the cars beautiful body forms. The interior of the car can be illuminated by the sun or the city lights through the solar-tented scenic roof that covers the cockpit. Detailing is transformed from mere aluminum on the vehicles wheels and exhaust by their black-diamond powder coat finish. In all the S5S Raptor is a work of art aimed to take your breath away, said McCammon. It is aggressive and sexy at the same time. According to Saleen executives, the S5S Raptor could enter the market in as little as two years, and should it go forward, it would carry a base price of approximately $185,000 MSRP.

Color-coded callipers with Spyker script are available as an option. The Aileron is available with carbon ceramic brakes as an option as well. Designing a successor of a first generation car is no simple task. Spyker’s design philosophy has always been to create timeless designs that are contemporary but classic. In the first generation cars, the leading design cues came from Spyker’s aviation and racing heritage. The propeller design was consistently incorporated into many of the company’s design elements (such as the Aeroblade wheels). But, Spyker felt it was time refresh this motif.

C8 Aileron
Designing a successor of a first generation car is no simple task. Spyker’s design philosophy has always been to create timeless designs that are contemporary but classic. Historically, the turbine engine succeeded the propeller engine, so Spyker took a cue from its inspiration. The C8 Aileron now features the turbine as its “leitmotiv,” as the company continues to wear its inspiration on its sleeve. The 2008 long wheel base C8 Aileron features a mid-engined layout with an aluminum space frame that is clad in aluminum body panels. This ensures the sports car will be light on its feet and nimble through turns. This space frame is a development of the original first generation cars’ space frames. However, in the new version, the torsional rigidity is improved by 40% without adding any weight and its dimensions have changed. The wheelbase increases by 4.5 inches for improved
road handling and more cockpit space. The additional inches also give way to larger doors allowing for a more comfortable in- and egress. Also, its front track has been widened making the vehicle virtually ‘square.’ The signature Spyker polished air inlets in aluminum were converted into turbine engine shaped scoops reducing the “bling” element considerably, which reflects the more minimalist trend in the market today. Cars being produced feature more sober designs and are much less exuberant than in years past. The scoops have polished alloy nacelles, which can be color matched to the interior as an option. The airflow around the car was redesigned so that the shark-like gills of the first

quick specs generation cars (no less than 17 on a C8 Spyder) could be abandoned giving the Aileron a cleaner, smoother appearance. The radiator opening was enlarged to accommodate an increase in horsepower, which requires additional cooling. As on its predecessors, the mesh is V-shaped in a direct reference to the Spykers of the previous century, but angled forward giving the car a somewhat more aggressive stance. In addition, the headlight units were reshaped to follow the body design more closely. LED lights are incorporated in the units for indicators as well as Xenon lights (which are standard now). The glass jet-inspired canopy, first introduced on the C8 Laviolette in February 2001, extends further back, reducing drag and increasing cockpit headroom. The signature air inlet atop the cockpit remained, except that is now turbine shaped. The first generation cars had split side windows, which were not optimal in terms of sealing (wind noise and water management). Spyker has changed their design and now form and function work as one. The Aileron features single pane side glass that drops when the door is opened and closed. This creates an improved comfort level in the cockpit and eliminating the problems that plagued the company’searlier generations. the six hides used for an Aileron interior, which come in a variety of 14 standard colors to complimentthe14 exterior colors available. Ellemeijer then fits the interior. Any other color so desired by the customer is available as an option. When Spyker started production in 2003, 80% of the customers ordered their cars without any audio system, the basic reasoning being that the engine provided all of the sound one could possibly desire. However, with a larger numbers of cars being produced, the demand for a standard sound system increased and cars were fitted with the system chosen by the owner. With the ever increasing success of I-pod and similar products, the demand for a standard sound system fitted by the factory has increased to the point that every Aileron will be equipped with a Kharma sound system, incorporating a GPS system, Bluetooth, CD player and an I-pod jack. It is paired to 7 Kharma loudspeakers. Now driver and passenger can argue over which they’d rather hear: The purr of 400 horses and their Spyker C8 Aileron forcing the elements into submission or Mick Jagger.

In addition to the limited-edition Corvette Victory Edition, a second special version of the all-American sports car has been introduced this past spring, the Corvette Competition. This model, built in limited numbers on the basis of the C6 Coupe, bears strong links to motor sport too, in which the Corvette has proven highly successful. The Corvette Competition is offered at a competitive price and only available in Europe. The new Corvette Competition was launched to celebrate the start of a new racing season. The 56th edition of the legendary Sebring Twelve Hours on 15 March was the first race in the American Le Mans Series championship (ALMS). In Sebring, Corvette Racing scored another double victory in the GT1 category. The special Competition version of ALMSchampion Corvette bears subtle resemblances to the successful C6.R race car. The number of available options on the new car is limited, in order to save as much weight as possible. Another point in common are the air scoops with honeycomb pattern in the front grill and in between the double twin exhaust pipes at the rear. The rear spoiler, borrowed from the
Z06 model, not only contributes to excellent aerodynamic properties but is evidence to the Corvette’s fine motor sport heritage as well. The bold looks of the Corvette Competition are complemented by 5spoke alloys (18 inch at the front, 19 inch at the rear) in the color Competition Grey. Another distinguishing feature of this limited-edition Corvette is its body color: black. The Corvette Competition boasts a 6.2 V8 engine and choice of a 6-speed manual gearbox or automatic transmission. Delivery of the new Corvette has already begun since April 2008, and the car can be ordered from authorized Corvette dealers.
