VIII Coffee Festival September 18th–21st, Rynok Square Lviv has long been known as one of the “coffee capitals” of Europe. Ever since the Habsburg days, when Lviv-area native Yuri Kulchytsky founded the first coffee house in Vienna (one of the first in all of Europe), Lviv has been famed as much for the strength of its brews as for the coziness of its cafes and coffee houses. The General Consulate of Poland in Lviv invites Leopolitans and guests of the city to the Under the High Castle Polish Film Festival – featuring over 30 screenings of Polish film with Ukrainian subtitles – to be held across Lviv over 10 days in October. Festival-goers will be treated to modern Polish cinema gems like: the drama Pod Mocnym Aniolem; the political thriller Jack Strong; and the biographical drama Papusza. Other films, like Ida and Mój Biegun, are also set to be featured. The festival has a strong lineup outside of the film screenings. Polish cinema superstars such as Sonia Bohosiewicz, Anna Dymna, Agata Kulesza, Danuta Szaflarska, and Janusz Gajos will be in attendance and fans will also have the opportunity to meet the prominent Polish film director, Lviv-born Janusz Majewski. Other special events include the entertaining quest ‘Kino Lviv’, a cinema history lesson for school students, and a special concert by the Apertus Quartet together with the Ivano-Frankvivsk Philharmonic Orchestra. The Lviv Art Palace is set to host the Lviv Scale Models Fest – an international exhibition of scale models – over the September 20–21 weekend. Highquality, detailed, and authentic models of aircraft, motor & military vehicles, marine vessels, figurines, and even dioramas will be on display. Among featured exhibits will be previous winners of international model-building competitions. The event attracts scale-model masters from across Ukraine and around Europe and workshops and contests are on hand for any scale model enthusiast. The annual Golden Lion International Theatre Festival is not just a cinematic carnival, but a European theatrical tradition in its own right. Founded in 1989, it remains one of the single, most prestigious international cultural forums established in modern Ukraine. Ever since, Lviv’s streets transform into a living theatre each autumn, providing unforgettable impressions while creating a true European carnival atmosphere. This year’s theme is ‘East & West Together’ and will present theatre troupes from across Eastern and Central Europe. The highlight is sure to be the performances from the Luhansk Theatre, created during the current conflict. This year, for the first time, Golden Lion will welcome Germany’s META Theatre, presenting the popular Musicophilia. Leopolitans and guests of the city will also be treated to performances from the trendy Polish troupe Scena Plastyczna KUL. hile in some parts of Europe, men may have raised their first churches from stony rubbles knowing many would never see the climax of stone and mortar, early Ukrainian church builders chose timber and the simplest of tools – axes, saws, and planes – to craft their religious reverence. In September 2013 UNESCO added 16 wooden churches to its List of World Heritage Sites – eight in Poland and eight in Ukraine, of which Lviv oblast have four, while Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia oblasts have two each.

The architectural forms of the churches with tri-partite plans, pyramidal domes, cupolas and bell towers conform to the requirements of Eastern liturgy while reflecting the cultural traditions of the local communities that developed separately due to the mountainous terrain. They include Hutsul types in the Ukrainian south-eastern Carpathians at Nyzhniy Verbizh and Yasinia; Halych types in the northern Carpathians either side of the Polish/Ukrainian border at Rohatyn, Drohobych, Zhovkva, Potelych, Radruż and Chotyniec; Boyko types either side of the

Before applying to UNESCO, Ukrainian members of the initiative committee examined hundreds of wooden churches along the Ukrainian-Polish border, choosing eight that met UNESCO’s criteria: they are unique, well preserved, open to visitors, and their congregations support their addition to the list. Overall, most of the wooden churches designated as architectural heritage sites in Ukraine are located in the west of the country. Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia oblasts alone are home to 1,089 of Ukraine’s 2,353 wooden churches. Located within the Polish and Ukrainian Carpathian mountain range, the sixteen wooden churches are outstanding examples of the once widespread Orthodox ecclesiastical timber-building tradition in the Slavic countries that survives to this day.

Built using the horizontal log technique with complex corner jointing, and exhibiting exceptional carpentry skills and structural solutions, the churches were raised on wooden sills placed on stone foundations, with wooden shingles covering roofs and walls. The churches with their associated graveyards and sometimes free-standing bell towers are bounded by perimeter walls or fences and gates, surrounded by trees. For the present time 13 churches are still used as churches, the other three – Radruż, Rohatyn and Drohobych are kept intact as museums. Also the authenticity of materi-

and maintenance techniques. Almost all churches retain their original doors and locking devices, with inscriptions on the lintels giving the dates of construction and names of carpenters. This September we encourage travelers and sight hunters to take a trip to several places in Western Ukraine, which is rich in architectural landmarks in general, and wooden churches in particular. One can start tour in Ivano-Frankivsk oblast with its 462 wooden churches qualified as architectural heritage sites. The first town worth visiting is Rohatyn – the birthplace of Nastya Lisovska, the legendary Roxelana or Hürrem Haseki Sultan – the legal wife of the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. The local church is one of the oldest preserved wooden churches in Ukraine, though

its precise age is a matter of scientific controversy. According to popular opinion, it was built in the early 17th century. The official date, however, is 1598: the local priest Ipolyt Dzerovych found the date carved on the northern wall of the central solid-timber section. The shrine has one of the oldest and most beautiful Renaissance-Baroque iconostases in Ukraine dating back to 1650. The church and its iconostasis attained their status as works of art at the time of Austro-Hungarian rule, when the shrine was first listed as an architectural heritage site. In 1963, it was added to a list of national historical sites for a second time. In the 1980s, it was restored by Ivan Mohytych, a top Ukrainian expert. Today, the church acts as a branch of the Ivano-Frankivsk art museum while also serving religious functions. The village of Nyzhniy Verbizh is known as a crossroads of four mountain rivers, including the mighty and turbulent Prut. It is also the birthplace of Hryhoriy Semeniuk, an ally of legendary Carpathian outlaw Oleksa Dovbush – a folk hero often compared to Robin Hood. Local lore claims that Semeniuk began construction of the shrine in his village. It is unique for its five domes built in the traditional Hutsul style and covered with engraved tin. The church was actually built in 1808 but the interior still contains icons from the late 18th century. Regular services are still held in the church today. Further the trip goes westward through Zakarpattia oblast, home to 110 preserved wooden churches recognized as architectural heritage sites. One is the Church of Ascension or Strukiv Church in the village

of Yasinia. Local lore claims that the village’s founder, Ivan Struk, built the church out of gratitude to God for saving his sheep in a storm. The modern Church of the Ascension, however, dates back to 1824. It is one of the best examples of sacred Hustul architecture. Inside, there is an iconostasis from the late 18th century and a number of 17th-century icons. Perhaps the local lore is true after all. The village of Uzhok in Velykyi Bereznyi region is on the border of Zakarpattia oblast near the Uzhok Pass where the river Uzh begins. The local Church of St. Michael the Archangel is one of the county’s symbols and a popular subject for painters. It was built in 1745 in the Boyko style. Similar churches are widespread in mountainous parts of Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts. The Uzhok shrine stands atop a hill and fits harmoniously with the surrounding landscape. Across the Uzhok Pass is Lviv oblast, home to 517 of Ukraine’s wooden churches. The first one that is absolute must-to-visit is in the village of Matkiv in Turka region, several kilometres from the border with Zakarpattia. The most beautiful element of this village at the source of the Stryi River is the wooden Church of the Holy Mother of God re-consecrated in honour of St. Demetrius. Like the church in Uzhok, it is in the Boyko style, although it differs from Zakarpattian Boyko architecture. Built in 1838, the church houses an iconostasis from the 1840s. Drohobych is the largest town in this list, hosting a few dozen architectural sites. St. George’s Church stands out in particular. In 1656, it was moved from the village of Nadiyiv, now in Dolyna region, Ivano-Frankivsk

oblast. The chapel of the Introduction of the Blessed Virgin Mary built over the choir balcony makes the shrine’s structure unique. Zhovkva region in Lviv oblast has two churches on the UNESCO list. One is the Holy Trinity Church in Zhovkva. Once a residence of the Polish kings Sobieski, the town will probably end up on the UNESCO list someday as well. Its church was originally built in 1601 but was destroyed in a fire, so the modern building dates back to 1720. It contains 18th-century murals and a five-layer Baroque iconostasis created by the masters of the Zhovkva Painting and Carving School under Ivan Rutkovych. Today, the building acts as a church and museum. Potelych, a village on the Ukrainian-Polish border, hosts several architectural sites and a German military cemetery. The most interesting building here is the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit. Built in 1502 on the site of the former Church of Boris and Glib, its construction was financed with donations from local potters. In the 1970s, skilled Lviv masters Ivan Mohytych and Bohdan Kindzelskyi restored it. Recognizing the historical and cultural value of Ukraine's wooden churches, the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture and Arts launched a restoration and preservation campaign of over 1,900 churches made of wood, largely located in western Ukraine, several years ago. The campaign, scheduled to last five years, includes registering each structure, evaluating condition, and completing the restoration process, ensuring the longevity of one of Ukraine's most eclectic and unusual cultural traditions will be preserved for future generations. LVIV SOCIETY Crimean Tatar cultural festivities On September 06, 2014 Lviv’s Museum of National Folk Architecture and Rural Life «Shevchenkivsky Hay» hosted festivities dedicated to Crimean Tatar culture. This annual mini-festival is getting to be traditional, as this year Crimean Tatar union organizes it for the fifth time. The event showcased master-classes on pottery, ceramics, chiseling, embroidery etc, which were conducted by Crimean Tatar and Halycian masters. As highlight came ethnical performance by Alie and Afize Usuf-kyzy. Guests of the event got wonderful chance to purchase so well-known jezves for coffee, hand made by Crimean Tatar masters, as well as enjoy aromatic beverage. While Crimean Tatars were trying their best in the painting of traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs, many charming local ladies took opportunity to attend folk-dance master class.

В програмі : майстер-класи з гончарства, кераміки, вишивки, чеканки та інші за участі кримськотатарських та галицьких майстрів, етнічні наспіви від Аліє та Афізе Юсуф-кизи. Гості фестин мали можливість придбати знамениті джезви для варіння кави вироблені кримотатарськими майстрами та спробувати запашної кави з них. Кримчани вчилися малювати українські писанки. Мабуть, найцікавіше для львів’янок – майстер класи з народних танців…

Vintage Trams on Exhibit Lviv hosted several festive events over the August 23rd weekend to mark the country’s 23rd anniversary of Ukrainian Independence. In light of the situation in Eastern Ukraine, celebratory shows were replaced by thematic events – such as an ecumenical prayer service, literary readings, photo exhibitions, and cultural displays. One unique event that highlighted the festivities was the Parade of Vintage Trams in Rynok Square. In a city renowned for its romantic trams, this event showcased several vintage trams that once graced our city’s quaint, cobblestone streets as well as more modern carriages that currently adorn our avenues.

Парад вІнтажних трамваїв Святкові урочистості, присвячені 23-й річниці Незалежності України, пройшли у Львові 23–25 серпня. Цього року, з огляду на складну ситуацію в східній частині країни, веселі шоу були замінені низкою тематичних заходів – літературних читань, фото-експозицій і культурних інсталяцій. Зокрема, на площі Ринок відбувся "Парад старовинних трамваїв", в якому перед публікою пройшли кілька старих і нових трамваїв, що курсували містом колись і перевозять пасажирів сьогодні.

New Opera Season Begins

Lviv’s celebrated Opera & Ballet Theatre opened its 115th theatrical season with the legendary BalMasquerade by G. Verdi. The former Ukrainian Minister of Culture and new Art Manager at the theatre, Mr. Vasyl Vovkun, served as the opera’s Art Director, while renowned Ukrainian artist Mykhaylo Dutchak served as conductor. Ukrainian soldiers currently rehabbing in Lviv’s hospitals following injuries from fighting in Eastern Ukraine were honoured guests at the performance.

Художнім керівником постановки став екс-міністр культури України Василь Вовкун, який нещодавно був призначений художнім керівником театру. Диригент – заслужений артист України Михайло Дутчак. На виставі були присутні бійці українського війська, що отримали поранення в зоні АТО, які проходять реабілітацію в лікувальних закладах Львова.

“GLORY TO UKRAINE! "AKCENT– BANK" PASSES THE CHALLENGE!” These days in Ukraine more and more publicity and support gets world known flash mob Ice Bucket Challenge, also known as "Glory to Ukraine!”. In order to follow the all-Ukrainian spirit on September 09, 2014, whole team of “Akcent-bank”, directly in front of the main office (3, Y. Osmomysla st.,) implemented own version of the famous flash mob. For the first time, in Lviv was brought together so many young, patriotic and enthusiastic representatives of business elite, who were eager to show sympathy, respect and support to the ATO soldiers. The event was brought to life, by Julia Turik, initiative director of “Akcent-bank” of Lviv and region, who said that ’Today all conscious Ukrainians should be part of the events, which take place in the Eastern part of the country. In case is you cannot go there and fight for your homeland, you must put all your efforts and do everything to support our soldiers morally and, more important, financially.” Julia Turik was strongly motivated to make clear her civic point of view and take active part in money raising for the army’s sake, as one of bank’s own employee (Roman Bil’) is already six months at Eastern Ukraine, fighting in the ranks of Ukrainian army. Also, there is huge expectation, that new format of so well organized flash mob will attract other representatives of business elite and accordingly money raising will be more successful and victory will come sooner. Вперше у Львовi зiбралась така кiлькiсть молодих, наповнених патрiотизмом представникiв бiзнесових кiл, щоб виразити своє спiвчуття та пiдтримку учасникам АТО! За словами органiзатора акцiї, директора "Акцент-банку" Львова та областi, Турик Юлiї, сьогоднi жодному свiдомому українцю не можна знаходитись осторонь подiй, якi вiдбуваються на сходi України. Якщо немає змоги їхати i приймати участi у захистi Вiтчизни особисто, необхiдно робити все можливе, щоб пiдтримати наших хлопцiв морально, i, в першу чергу, фiнансово. У Юлiї Романiвни iдея гучно виголосити громадянську позицiю i прийняти участь у зiбраннi коштiв була продиктована, в першу чергу, бажанням пiдтримати i пiдбадьорити свого працiвника (Біль Роман), який вже 6 мiсяцiв служить у лавах української армiї на сходi країни. “Mental wars”, that was the main topic of this year’s “Week of contemporary art” festival, which took place in Lviv during August 29th – September 7th, 2014. Within event’s program were held numerous author’ and curatorial projects, installations, panel discussions, art criticism master-classes etc. As festival participants came artists from Ukraine, Poland, Austria and Israel. One can still get a glimpse of festival’s curator Vlodko Kaufman’s creative performance, which is located at the eastern part of the Rynok square.

Темою цьогорічного фестивалю «Тиждень актуального мистецтва», що відбувається з 29 серпня до 7 вересня у Львові, стали ментальні війни. У програмі «Тижня»: авторські та кураторські проекти, інсталяції, об'єкти, лекції, панельні дискусії, майстеркласи з критики мистецтва. Учасниками дискусій стали митці України, Польщі, Австрії та Ізраїлю. З перформансом куратора фестивалю львівського майстра перформансу Влодка Кауфмана можна познайомитися на східній стороні площі Ринок.

Yuri Kokh opened his ARDEKOH art exhibition at Lviv’s Green Sofa gallery on September 2nd. The exhibition features portraits from the renowned ‘Hutsul Series’, such as Hutsulka with Absent, Sisters, and Girl with Tattoo. Artistic works from the new ‘Mannequins’ series were also presented, including the multifaceted painting EMI GRACIA. Of note at the exhibition is the Brothers painting showcasing Stephan Bandera and Antonio Banderas.

Fashion, For Army’s Sake Lviv’s iconic city centre was home to a unique charitable event to honour the 23rd anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. Organized by Lviv Fashion Week designers to raise funds for the Ukrainian army, a host of leading Ukrainian designers contributed to the cause. Local designer Iryna Lysa presented her debut collection alongside wares from designers such as: Roksolana Bogutska, Marta Wachholz, and Olena Dats’. Nearly a dozen designers provided outfits from their own collections for sale to raise money for the families of killed soldiers, while the wives and daughters of soldiers were featured as models. The event raised over 12,000 UAH for the cause.

Youth Olympic Gold for Lviv

On August 31st, Lviv welcomed athletes of the 2nd Youth Olympic Games that took place last month in Nanjing, China, including Lviv’s own Youth Olympic Champion Pavlo Korostylov. Of the 3,500+ athletes from 200+ countries around the world, the Ukrainian team sent 58 athletes aged 14-18 to compete in 22 of 28 sports. Ukraine’s young athletes faired strongly, placing 3rd overall with 29 medals (9 gold, 9 silver, 11 bronze), including Lviv’s Pavlo Korostylov’s gold medal and world-record 203.4-point performance in air pistol

У Львові вітали місцевих спортсменів-учасників 2 юнацьких Олімпійських ігор, що проходили 16–28 серпня в китайському місті Нанкін. В цій молодіжній олімпіаді взяли участь понад 3 500 спортсменів з понад 200 країн світу, серед яких були й 58 спортсменів з 20 областей України віком від 14 до 18 років, які змагалися у 22 з 28 видів спорту. Цього року команда України завоювала 29 медалей, серед них - 9 золотих, 9 срібних та 11 бронзових, і зайняла третє командне місце, також завдяки львів’янину Павлу Коростильову, який здобув другу золоту медаль для України в стрільбі з пневматичного пістолета з результатом 203,4 очка.

Karpaty Lviv Off To Slow Start

Lviv’s FC Karpaty has opened the 2014–15 Ukrainian Premiere League schedule slowly with only a single victory after the first 5 rounds of action. The team has dropped decisions to Metallurg Donetsk (0:1), Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk (0:4), and Metallurgh Zaporizhya (1:2) while also dropping points to lowly 13th-ranked Uzhgorod Hoverla (2:2). The team’s lone victory came in Round #4 with a tidy 2:0 result against Volyn Lutsk. The team’s latest setback – the 1:2 defeat to Zaporizhya – was particularly deflating after conceding both goals in second-half extra time. Central defender and Slovenian national Gregor Balažic leads the way for Karpaty with two goals. September fixtures include an away tilt with Vorskla Poltava (Sept. 14), before returning home to host Metalist Kharkiv (Sept. 20) and Dynamo Kyiv (Sept. 27). In Ukraine Cup action, Karpaty was drawn against Ukrainian Amateur Cup Champions Chaika Kyiv-Sviatoshyn Raion. In a Round-of-32 match played at the Stadium of the National University of State Taxation Service of Ukraine in Irpin, the boys in greenand-white defeated the amateur qualifiers 4:0. Dynamo Kyiv is up next for the boys in the home-and-away Roundof-16. Karpaty hosts the former Ukrainian champions on September 27th before travelling to Kyiv for the return leg on October 29th. Спершу поразка від «Металурга» (Донецьк) (0:1), потім – від дніпропетровського «Дніпра» (0:4), і від ще одного «Металурга» – з Запоріжжя (1:2) Поєдинок з ужгородською «Говерлою», яка посідає скромне 13 місце, (2: 2) також не приніс львів’янам очок. Скромну на цьому тлі перемогу (2:0) здобули біло-зелені в матчі проти луцької «Волині». Остання невдача команди - поразка (1:2) в матчі проти Запоріжжя – була особливо досадною, коли обидва м’ячі потрапили у сітку воріт «Карпат» у другому таймі додаткового часу. Центральний захисник словенець Грегор Балажіч поки що забив найбільше – 2 м’ячі. У вересні наша команда гратиме в гостях з полтавською «Ворсклою» (14 вересня), а повернувшись додому, заграє з харківським «Металістом» (20 вересня) і київським «Динамо» (27 вересня). Ukraine’s rugby 15 Championship, SuperLeague, Group A. On September 06, in Lviv started Ukraine’s Rugby 15 Championship, where local “Sokil” played against “Antares” (Kyiv) in home match. As groups’ favorite comes team “Olimp” (Kharkiv), which made Lviv’s and Kyiv’s players fight hard for the second position in the group, which is real chance to compete for the bronze medals of the championship. Whole match was extremely tense, with several real fights between players, however local sportsmen won with score 51-10, making main coach Yuriy Hrabovskyi truly happy. According to the rules, for each six tries at the opponent’s zone, the team gets bonus- additional point. Three Lviv’s team players got 10 points each – Roman Bodnar (№11), Ostap Kozak (№10) and Viktor Kirichenko (№3).

Lviv’s central square played host to a special Independence Day wheelchair fencing friendly between the Paralympic teams of Ukraine & Poland. The home side gave the audience an additional reason to celebrate after defeating the Polish squad 40-38, thanks in large part to IWAS Wheelchair Fencing Grand Prix champion and London 2012 Paralympic runner-up Anton Datsko, and multiple-time European champion Andriy Demchuk. They defeated the likes of Grzegorz Pluta – the 2012 Paralympic Champion & 2004 Athens Paralympic runner-up, and Norbert Calka, European Championship runner-up. The special Independence Day event was organized by the Family, Youth & Sport Department of Lviv City Council, the LOSA Department of Family & Youth, and the Consulate General of Poland in Lviv..

Investor confidence in Ukraine in second quarter 2014 Crediting the new government: the time to pay interest If the first three months of 2014, investor sentiment was mostly optimistic, new hope prevailed for transformation and change in the country, and in the second quarter the Investment Attractiveness Index data showed that business optimism falls and more worries appeared with the situation in the east. Today's results of the Investment Attractiveness Index showed that business confidence in the country is 2.74 points out of 5. For comparison – a year before, in 2013, the Index was 2.17 points, which indicates that there have been some positive changes, but they are unfortunately based on expectations, hopes and trust of the new government.

And at the same time, business is ready to work further, to support the economy in times of crisis, to support the government and to support the country", says Anna Derevyanko, Executive Director, European Business Association. What changes occurred in the investment climate for the 2nd quarter of 2014? 29%, nearly a third of respondents, didn’t see changes for the better. 40% of respondents feel positive

Legal Committee On July 16, 2014 the EBA Legal Committee was held. The participants of the meeting discussed Prosecutor’s Inspections: legal regulation. The invited speakers of the meeting were: Oleksiy Dovbush, Senior Associate, attorney-at-law, Arzinger; Veronika Zagreva, senior prosecutor of the Department of the Defense of citizens’ constitutional rights and freedoms and state interests of the Lviv region Prosecutor’s Office. In the course of the meeting following issues was discussed: the procedure and the grounds of the prosecutor’s inspections and of the other means of prosecutor’s reacting on the notification about violation of the law; powers of prosecutor for obtaining the documents and information regarding activity of commercial legal entities; conduction of the inspections by the competent authorities and prosecutor’s reacting on the results of such inspections; distinguishing the inspections upon the notification about rights violation and notification about committing the crime; challenging and appeal of prosecutor’s actions. The participants of the meeting discussed the topic: Insurance medicine – the economic model of health care system for saving health of independent Ukraine population. n this issue of Lviv Today Markian Malskyy, Partner of Arzinger law firm, Head of West Ukrainian Branch Office, attorney-at-law, PhD, is answering the following question: Law limiting government intervention into the business activities became effective in August. Could you please elaborate more on this topic and provide us with short overview of recent novelties in this sphere?

Law No. 1600-VII “On amending certain legislative acts of Ukraine related to limitation of meddling into activities of the economic entities” regarding limitations of intervention of the state into business activity of entities came into force on the 17th of August, 2014. The amendments include prohibition of carrying out state supervision (control) by few different state supervision (control) authorities on one and the same issue. Moreover, it is prohibited for a state supervision (control) authority to carry out inspections under anonymous and other unreasonable statements, as well as appeals of legal entities, which are often used to put pressure on the business or elimination of competitors. During state supervision (control) withdrawal of original financial and economic, accounting and other documents as well as computers and their parts, from economic entities is prohibited, unless otherwise is provided by the criminal procedural legislation. In accordance with the Law economic entity may be subject to state supervision (control) only once a year. Moreover, the list of relationships not covered by the Law "On main principles of state supervision (control) in the sphere of economic activity", is significantly reduced, namely: foreign exchange controls; customs control at the border; state export control; control over observance of the budget law; banking supervision; control over observance of legislation on the protection of economic competition; supervision of compliance with nuclear safety requirements; supervision in the field of civil aviation and justice. The state supervision (control) plan for a respective schedule period shall be made available on the official web-site of a state supervision (control) authority not later than 10 days before the start of a respective scheduled period. The damage caused by unlawful decisions, actions or omissions of officials, is subject for reimbursement from the relevant budgets. In turn, the official is liable before the state by means of recourse at the amount of compensation paid from the appropriate budget in connection with his/her unlawful decisions, actions or omission. The Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences is supplemented with the relevant articles, establishing liability of officials for violation of abovementioned regulations.

Customs Committee On Thursday, August 7, 2014, at the premises of Atlas Deluxe Hotel the Ad-hoc meeting of Customs Committee was held. The meeting was dedicated to the discussion of Mobilization in Ukraine – Third Wave. Speaker of the meeting was – Anton Podilchak, Managing partner of the Lviv office Advice Group. Anton Podilchak made a speech about general information on third wave of mobilization and told who is being drafted and main procedures. During the meeting the participants discussed and shared ideas answering to questions: How to save needed personnel and what are the consequences for business? Outdoor meeting of Tax and Accounting Committee The participants of the meeting visited the EBA-member Company Guldmann Ukraine, manufacturer of technical aids for the disabled. The participant of the meeting could watch the manufacturing during the company tour kindly guided by Taras Yurynts, director of Guldman Ukraine. After the tour Mr. Yurynts presented the general overview of the company activities and specifics of the manufacturing. EBA Western Ukrainian Office on behalf of EBA members expresses its gratitude to Guldman Ukraine for the opportunity to visit the plant and to get valuable knowledge and informative answers on manufacturing questions.

Social Responsibility in conflict times On July 17, 2014 the EBA Marketing Committee was held. The participants of the meeting discussed Social Responsibility in conflict times. The invited speaker, Marina Saprykina, Head of CSR, said: «In its recent history Ukrainian society and business for the first time faced such difficult and tragic events. Accordingly, companies do not have experience and practice of proper decision-making in military conflict. So many issues arise: how may company remain responsible? What programs should the company cut or launch? » The joint new and innovative solutions to these complex questions were discussed during the discussion. The invited speaker identified three main priorities for the company in times of conflict: 1. Despite any circumstances, the Company should adhere to its own values and stay out of politics. Therefore, sometimes companies do not disclose information about certain actions (e.g. aid to the army), because it could put them in an awkward and dangerous situation. 2. Company should provide maximum support to its employees as the latter may clearly understand that the company cares about them and do not leave them in troubles. 3. Company should continue its long-term social programs, but it should remain flexible in terms of launching certain projects in response to urgent needs of communities. The company should prepare to the situation in the coming years and form its social investment budget with the proportion 80% to 20% where 20% is a special right-now-action fund. Also Ms. Saprykina provided 33 recommendations for business on corporate governance, HR-practices and social investment.
