POPULAR JAZZ BEZ FESTIVAL RETURNS TO LVIV December 5–14 JazzClub Lviv (35 Virmenska St.) & venues around Lviv In has become an early winter tradition in Lviv, Jazz Bez – one of the most popular events on city’s cultural calendar – is set to return from December 5–14. The Jazz Bez festival, among the biggest in Eastern Europe, features an international array of renowned jazz musicians performing at venues around Lviv. This year’s layout will give Leopolitan music lovers and guests of the city the chance to enjoy both main stage concerts as well as more intimate club performances by musicians from around the world. Featured festival artists include: Steve Houben Quartet (Belgium-USA), Kasia Mirowska Quartet (Poland), Usein Bekirov Trio (Crimea), the Dima Bondarev Quintet, the Marc Bernstein ‘Kibrick’ Quartet, and Polish saxophonist Piotr Baron. ХIV International Economic Forum: Vision 2020 Strategies for Countries, Regions, and Business November 27, Hotel Dnister Conference Room (6 Mateyka St.) November 28, Lviv’s Ivan Franko National University Assembly Hall Lviv’s International Economic Forum, traditionally held in autumn, has established itself as an important discussion platform for leaders of Eastern European countries. It provides the opportunity for productive dialogue between representatives of government and business. The event aims to bring together heads of states and international business leaders to develop and implement effective strategies to strengthen integration processes, stimulate investment, and increase access to the global economy. Lviv Media Forum November 13–15, Arena Lviv Stadium (199 Stryiska St.) “War, Politics, and Corruption. Media: A Player or a Tool?” is the theme of this year’s Lviv Media Forum. The event brings together several hundred participants and over 30 speakers from professional media in 7 countries (Ukraine, Russia, USA, Germany, Poland, Belarus & Denmark). The first day will kick off with a discussion surrounding Media and Propaganda During War. Anti-AIDS Contest Every year on December 1st the world observes International Anti-AIDS Day. In this tradition, Lviv’s SALUS charitable foundation has, for the last 13 years, organized various special events to mark the occasion. SALUS has been a staple in Lviv’s non-profit world since 1996, when it was established by a group of professional physicians aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles in Western Ukraine. This November, SALUS is presenting a contest of creative works dedicated to International Anti-AIDS Day. The idea behind the presentation of metal, glass, wood, paper, textile, or ceramic exhibits is to counter myths surrounding AIDS and to provide accurate information about AIDS-related issues. If you are interested in taking part in the contest, please submit your idea of creative work by CD or DVD to event organizers at SALUS by 18:00 on November 10th. International Autumn Art Salon “High Castle” November 09 – December 01 Lviv Art Palace (17 Kopernika St.) The High Castle International Autumn Art Salon, showcasing the works of contemporary artists from both Ukraine and abroad, is set to return to Lviv’s Art Palace in November / December. British Cinema Festival November 13th – December 20th Leopolitan cinema buffs and fans of film across Ukraine will be pleased to hear that the British Council and Arthouse Traffic are once again presenting the New British Film Festival, which will take place from November 13 – 20 at locations across Ukraine. Lviv’s venues will be home to some of the UK’s best releases of the year and will also host some special screenings and events as part of this year’s programme. Film lovers will not want to miss All Is By My Side, a drama based on Jimi Hendrix’s life as he left New York City for London just before his career took off. Lenny Abraham’s Irish comudrama Frank, released this year and starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and Michael Fassbender, is another can’t miss viewing. Fans will also be excited to see Lilting, a film written and directed by Cambodian-born, British director Hong Khaou, who is notable for having his short film Spring selected at both the Sundance and Berlinale film festivals back in 2011. Finally, festival goers should pay special attention to Mr. Turner, the biographical drama that explores the last 25 years of life of the great – and eccentric – British painter JMW Turner. Zakarpattian Beaujolais Festival November 15–16 Uzhgorod, the Bogolvar (Owl’s Nest) Wine Cellar (2 Rákóczi St.) Zakarpattia’s fashionable Beajolais festival is set to be held at the stylish Bogolvar (Owl’s Nest) wine cellar this month from November 1516. Zakarpattia, of course, is a region of unique beauty and interesting traditions, including its burgeoning wine-making industry. The region’s climate makes for ideal wine-making conditions and it is just as easy to find a local winemaker willing to show you his own winery as a sommelier at one of Zakarpattia’s sundry wine festivals. The Zakarpattian Beaujolais festival, featuring some of Zakarpattia’s finest winemakers, is one of the more trendy on the circuit. It is unique in the sense that it celebrates young wine made from grapes harvested just this year. Щорічний Фестиваль Божоле 15–16 листопада Винний льох «Богольвар» («Гніздо Сови»(вул. Ракоці, 2, Ужгород) Цьогорічний 8-й фестиваль «Закарпатське Божоле 2014» прийматиме ужгородський дегустаційний винний льох «Богольвар». Закарпаття славиться своєю унікальною природною красою, цікавими традиціями культури виноробства. Цей край природа щедро наділила прекрасним м’яким кліматом, тож не дивно, що майже в кожному господарстві виготовляють своє вино, і саме тут проходять численні щорічні винні фестивалі. «Закарпатське Божоле» – це наймолодший з винних фестивалів Закарпаття. The popular Ukrainian rock band Skryabin are bringing their talents to adoring Leopolitan fans on November 11th as part of their ‘25’ national tour to celebrate the group’s 25th anniversary. As part of the show, concert-goers can expect to hear some of the group’s newest tracks, a smattering of their most popular tunes throughout the years, and – as a special treat – songs that the group has never played before. Forming in 1989 – before Ukrainian independence – the group’s musical style has evolved from electronic dark wave to alternative/pop rock. Skryabin fans usually divide the band’s history into ‘old Skryabin’ and ‘new Skryabin’, with the border generally agreed to be the early 2000s. Their 2005 hit Lyudy Yak Korabli (People as Ships) spent a record 39 straight weeks on FDR Radiocentre’s Top 40, while popular 2006 tunes Stari Fotohrafiyi (Old Photos) and Padai (Fall) both entered the chart at #1, leading the group to be named Best Pop Band of 2006. Skryabin’s discography features 20 albums, the latest of which is titled ‘25’ in honour of the group’s 25th anniversary. The band’s leader – Andriy ‘Kuzma’ Kuzmenko – is a modern Ukrainian rock star and author of many of the group’s music and lyrics. Skryabin is famed for incorporating a mixture of styles into their music, having successfully made the transition between Gothic electronic to cheerful pop-rock and today remains among the most successful of modern Ukrainian rock bands. Популярний український гурт «Скрябін» приїде до своїх львівських фанатів в листопаді з живим концертом "25" в рамках національного туру, присвяченого 25-річчю творчої діяльності. «Скрябін» виконає свої старі й нові пісні, а також приготував декілька сюрпризів для шанувальників – музиканти виконають композиції, які ще ніколи не грали або грали дуже давно. Від часу свого заснування у 1989 році «Скрябін» пройшов шлях від електронної «темної хвилі» до альтернативного поп-року. Творчість гурту прийнято поділяти на «старого Скрябіна» і «нового Скрябіна». Межа такого поділу проходить через 2000–2003 роки. Одна з пісень 2005 року – «Люди як кораблі» – провела рекордні 39 тижнів поспіль (станом на кінець 2007 року) в топ-40 FDR Radiocenter, який реєструє популярність в українському радіо ефірі з травня 2002 року. В лютому 2006 року пісня «Старі фотографії» стала № 1 у топ-40, а пісня «Падай» також вийшла на перші місця три місяці пізніше. «Скрябін» отримав титул «Найкращий поп-гурт» 2006 року на церемонії «ShowBiz Awards", що відбулася в київському Національному Оперному театрі. Дискографія «Скрябіна» включає 20 альбомів, останній з яких, під назвою "25", присвячений 25-річчю колективу. Безперечним лідером групи є Андрій Кузьменко "Кузьма" – автор багатьох віршів і музики. LVIV SOCIETY Chocolate Festival Leopolitan chocolate-lovers and all those with sweet teeth were ‘treated’ to the tasty National Chocolate Festival, held at Lviv’s Art Palace from October 17-19. This year’s program allowed festival-goers to visit the delicious Chocoland fair as well as to participate in chocolate-related workshops. While children were participating in all the fun games and competitions, parents were invited to partake in one of the many tasting sessions. A highlight for those in attendance was the collection of world-famous architectural masterpieces sculpted from chocolate by local chocolatiers. The event culminated with the 3rd annual Chocolate Championship, where amateur confectioners tried to impress the jury with their own unique and tasty treat. Lviv’s own Natalya Arefeva wowed the judges with her delectable Italian cake to take the title of Chocolate Champion.

Свято шоколаду Серед багатьох культурно-кулінарних подій, якими в останній час славиться Львів, була й ця. Львів’яни й численні гості міста мали незрівнянну нагоду на повні груди вдихнути запах дитинства – запах шоколаду в усіх його формах. Цього року програма свята була, як завжди, багата й різноманітна – тут був і чудовий шоколадний ярмарок, і «Дитяча шоколадна країна», де все зроблено зі смачного шоколаду: шоколадні будинки і навіть шоколадна залізниця, веселі ігри та конкурси, майстер-класи з виготовлення шоколадних десертів, дегустації шоколаду, семінари на споріднені теми й багато іншого. Мабуть, жоден з гостей цього солодкого свята не пошкодував, що прийшов на нього, бо тільки тут можна було побачити, як створюють свої шедеври з шоколаду скульптори і шоколатьє. Також в програмі фестивалю було проведено III чемпіонат кондитерів-аматорів, де учасники намагалися справити враження на журі витворами своєї уяви й таланту. Перемогла у цьому незвичайному конкурсі Наталя Ареф'єва, яка приготувала надзвичайно смачний торт за італійським рецептом.

Cheese & Wine Festival One of the most anticipated culinary holidays in Lviv was held over October 24–26 in the very heart of the ancient city. The showcase event was fair featuring a large variety of cheeses and wines from Ukraine’s renowned manufacturers and talented local artisans. Leopolitans and guests of the city at the Cheese & Wine Festival were able to learn about cheese-making culture and winemaking traditions. Several culinary workshops were available alongside an array of musical performances by local artists. Some of the event’s highlights include portraits drawn with wine, artistic works made from cork, a cheese candle-making workshop and, of course, a tasting of the divine Coffee Wine. Festival-goers that attended on the last day were treated with delightful cheesecake, specially prepared in the traditional way by local chefs.

Свято сиру і вина Цього гастрономічного свята, що відбулось 24–26 жовтня у Львові під відкритим небом, чекали цілий рік любителі й поціновувачі сиру й вина. До Львова з’їхались виробники цих делікатесів з усієї України щоб продемонструвати свої досягнення. Львів’яни й гості міста мали чудову нагоду дізнатися про традиції сироварів та виноробів безпосередньо від виробників. Для фахівців проводились кулінарні семінари , а для публіки – виступи місцевих музикантів. Беззаперечно, родзинками фестивалю були – виставка портретів, намальованих вином, художні інсталяції з винних корків, традиційні винні листівки, майстер-класи з виготовлення "сирних" свічок і дегустація вишуканого Кавового вина. В останній день гості фестивалю традиційно частувались чудовим сирником, спеціально приготовленим кулінарами львівських ресторанів за старовинними рецептами.

Romeo & Juliet Returns Leopolitan theatre-goers were thrilled to celebrate the return of the classic Romeo & Juliet ballet at the National Opera Theatre on October 17th. This contemporary rendition of the famed Shakespearean tale is set in modernday reality and features artists wearing extravagant costuming and revolutionary make-up. This modern rendering was brought to life by the Opera Theatre’s new Art Director Vasyl Vovkun, who is notable as the former Minister of Culture for Ukraine. Talented Ukrainian artists such as German Isupov (choreographer), Mykhaylo Dutchak (conductor), and Sergiy Naenko (ballet-master) added to the home-grown feel of the performance. Throughout each time period, the timeless tale of love and loss unfolded to Prokofiev’s dauntingly dramatic score. Bravura dancing, touching lyricism, and epic storytelling converged in this ill-fated tale of true love.

"Ромео і Джульєтта" понад часом Прем’єра відновленої постановки балету "Ромео і Джульєтта" відбулась 17 жовтня на сцені Львівського театру опери та балету ім. С. Крушельницької. Ця сучасна версія балету за мотивами безсмертної трагедії Шекспіра перенесена в сучасну реальність – актори мають на собі екстравагантні костюми і революційний грим. Ця смілива постановка була втілена в життя під керівництвом нового художнього керівника театру Василя Вовкуна, який свого часу побував на посаді міністра культури України. Головний хореограф – Заслужений артист України Герман Ісупов, диригент-постановник – Михайло Дутчак, балетмейстер – Заслужений артист України Сергій Наєнко. Балет на музику С. Прокоф'єва був створений у 1936 році і відтоді мав безліч сценічних втілень в театрах всього світу. Юнацька відвага, ліризм і епічність розповіді поєднуються у цій історії нещасливого кохання. Boyko Tourist Forum On October 31, 2014 Carpathian village Borynya (Turkivsky region) hosted the First Boyko Tourist Forum “Tourism and traditions, challenges and perspectives”. The event was organized by Department of international cooperation and tourism of Lviv Regional Administration and was aimed on representatives of travel ageneses and journalists. As main topic of the event was stated popularization of tourism in the region as well as showcasing of cultural traditions of Boyko. Within Forum’s program were held numerous thematic conferences, fairf of hand made goods, concerts by folklore ensembles, tasting of authentic Boyko cuisine, master-classes, excursions to the ethnographic museum of the town of Turka and much more. As event’s highlight came theatrical presentation of fragment of the Boyko wedding ceremony – “Blessing of the Bride” Boyko or Boiko are a distinctive group of Ukrainian highlanders or mountain-dwellers of the Carpathian highlands. Along with Lemkos and Hutsuls they are a national continuum of Carpathian nationalities also known as Gorals.

The ‘Marketing in the Period of Uncertainty’ seminar, the third such seminar in a series organized by HD Partners Legal Company LLC and Gold Ideas Advertising Company, was held at Leopolis Hall on October 16th. The event brought together marketing specialists, brand managers, and owners of leading advertising agencies in Western Ukraine. In recognition of the extremely important topic and agenda, more than 180 participants, representing the Lviv, Volyn, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyi, and Ternopil Oblasts, were in attendance. Polish Films on Display The Under the High Castle Polish cinema festival, organized by the General Consulate of Poland in Lviv and the Polish Institute of Cinematic Art, was held in the city from October 10–19. The festival showcased the finest in Polish cinema by screening 30 films, in addition to hosting several related events including discussion panels, exhibitions, concerts, book presentations, and even a quest. Event patrons were treated to the entertaining Kino Lviv quest, a special cinema history lesson aimed at students, as well as a concert by the Apertus Quartet alongside the Ivano-Frankivsk philharmonic theatre. Several Polish cinematic celebrities were in attendance, including Sonia Bohosiewicz, Anna Dymna, Agata Kulesza, Danuta Szaflarska, and Janusz Gajos. Of interest to Leopolitan cinema fans was a meeting with Janusz Majewski, the famous film director, screenwriter, and professor of film art, who was born in Lviv in 1931. The Rocks of Dovbush: West Ukraine’s Natural and Historic Wonder

The Rocks of Dovbush are a fascinating combination of natural wonders and manmade creations that can be found in the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. Part of the Polyantytskiy Regional Landscape Park, the site has been named one of Ukraine’s seven natural and historical landmarks. The sandstone cliffs were formed some 70 million years ago when the area was at the bottom of a warm sea, and consists of oddly shaped stones, massive caves, shadowy gorges, impressive fortifications, yawning pits, winding labyrinths, and mysterious pathways. This makes the forested site, easily reached by horseback, carriage, or foot from the village of Bubnische, a popular destination for rock climbers, with over 100 routes available. Among the many amazing residual rock outcrops at the site is the Carpathian Sphinx – the profile of a flattened little man. Of course, the Rocks of Dovbush are not only a natural landmark, but an historic one as well. The site has been inhabited for centuries and has served as a military fortress on many occasions, including for Oleksa Dovbush – the legendary Robin Hood-like folk hero after whom the site is named. This combination of natural and historic importance makes the Rocks of Dovbush a ‘must see’ for any serious Ukrainian traveler. Oleksa Dovbush: The Ukrainian Robin Hood The site has long been used as a site for congregation and protection. Amongst the 50m-high structures are unique wooden cave buildings that point to prehistoric habitation, while the site was also known as a pagan sanctuary in pre-Christian times. A rock fortress was established there during the time of King Danylo of Galich, which was substantial enough to repel the Mongol-Tatar invasion and to last until the 16th Century. The fortress was also a likely frontier post for Yaroslav Osmomysl during his clash with the Grand Prince of Kyiv. The site was again a base for anti-feudalism/ anti-Polish forces in the 18th Century and it was this sense of defence and security that first led the legendary folk avenger Oleksa Dovbush to the area in the 1740s. Dovbush was born in a small Hutsul village in the Carpathians to a peasant family in 1700. He followed in his father’s footsteps to

become a church builder, and it is known he helped build a church in Kosmach. One day Oleksa fell in love with the beautiful Marichka. After killing a fellow admirer that was a little too forward in his advances to the girl, Dovbush fled to the mountains. Soon after, several young people that were dissatisfied with the power of the aristocracy joined him to form a detachment. The opryshky – as the group liked to call themselves – was not for the faint of heart. Opryshky first needed to pass initiation tests of courage and boldness, like hitting an axe between your outstretched fingers on a tree stump. The group was more loved than feared though, as the detachment stole from the rich and gave to the poor – which is why Dovbush is known as Ukraine’s Robin Hood. As leader of the opryshky, Dovbush soon became a legend, with tales of his activities spreading across the regions of Western Ukraine. One such tale is when he was able to elude over 2000 soldiers sent specifically by the aristocracy to find and kill him. But his fame led to a high price being placed on his head. With the aristocracy nearly losing hope of catching the outlaw, they devised a plan to use his fatal flaw – his love for Marichka. Marichka’s parents, for her own safety, were forced to marry her off to another Hutsul man, Stepan Dzvinchuk. Marichka did not love Stepan and continued, in secret, to see Oleksa. Stepan, looking for a way to eliminate his rival, agreed to a deal with the aristocracy that would see him both get rich and kill Dovbush. The story goes that Stepan made a bullet from wheat and a lock of Oleksa’s hair, that he had it blessed in church, and that he set out to find his rival. What happened next is a matter of debate. Some say that Oleksa was killed by this bullet and that his body was dismembered into 20 parts and sent to opryshky as a message against revolt. Others insist that Dovbush once again managed to find a way to escape and that he saved his beloved Marichka, ran away, and lived happily together for many years. However Dovbush’s life ended, he was succeeded by his men who continued his legacy. He is now an important figure in Ukrainian folklore, featuring in several literary and artistic works. He also has several places named in his honour, including West Ukraine’s Natural and Historic Wonder – the Rocks of Dovbush. LVIV TODAY | November 2014

he Special Olympics are the world’s largest year-round program of sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver – sister of US President John F. Kennedy – the Special Olympics have grown into a global movement that currently serves more than 4 million athletes in 170 countries all around the world. Countries are expected to run their own Special Olympics programs independently, and it is no different in Ukraine. The Special Olympics movement in Ukraine began in 1991 and has now grown into a reputable organization that brings together 19,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities from 16 regions. Each year this Olympic movement gets more intense, well developed and engages new regions, new teams and of course, sportsmen. Several of those athletes were in Lviv from October 3-5 to take part in the inaugural Ukrainian Special Olympics Open Games. In total, 22 delegations from 12 regions of Ukraine and a Polish team participated in four events (football, swimming, table tennis, & floorball) in which 54 sets of medals were distributed. The first Special Olympics Games were hosted by four

locations: “Intersport”, “Sport Life”, “Dynamo” and Children and Youth Sports School -1 (CYSS-1). Events participants were accommodated at hotel “Ecotel”. The student athletes were kept busy with a full schedule of not only sporting events, but cultural events as well. The football tournament kicked off the schedule and saw the team from Zaporizhiya defeat the Kharkiv team to win gold in one division, while Dobromyl defeated Velyky Lubin and Lviv won bronze in the other. The footballers were awarded their medals at the Opening Ceremony the next day, which was held in front of City Hall in the picturesque Rynok Square. The festivities, which included the raising of the Special Olympic flag, an athlete’s oath, and greetings from representatives of the City of Lviv, saw the Head of the Lviv Regional Football Federation Yaroslav Grysio present the medals to the winning teams. The competitions continued the next day, and saw athletes compete in table tennis, floorball, and swimming competitions, which alone awarded 24 sets of medals. Leopolitan Special Olympians fared particularly well in the floorball competition, taking both silver and bronze.

When not taking part in the sporting events, the Special Olympians were entertained by a rich and interesting cultural program. From sightseeing, to attending special cultural and sporting events, to just doing some of the coolest activities in Lviv, the athletes never had a dull moment. Some of the activities specially arranged for the participants included a tour around Arsenal arms museum, a trip to the top of City Hall’s tower, attending the Kotelnik / Usyk boxing match (tickets kindly provided by company “SB Group”), a swim at Plyazh (Beach) Aquapark, a break at Lviv’s Communa café, a performance at the Mariya Zankovetska Drama Theatre, and a ride on Lviv’s extraordinary Chudo-Poizd (Wonder Train). If their exploits in the sporting competitions didn’t tire them out, surely the rest of the day’s activities did! The event was highly received by everyone involved – the City of Lviv, the Ukrainian Special Olympics organization, and of course, by the athletes themselves. In fact, the Head of the organizing committee for the Special Olympics Open Games Andriy Porodko labeled Lviv as the “capital for people with special needs” and announced that the

city would host the next Games in May 2015, where organizers anticipate twice as many athletes and where will be added new sports, basketball in particular. Also in May 2015 in Lviv, for the first time in Ukraine, will be held kayaking seminar, which will be conducted by invited specialist from Poland - Roza Banasik-Zaranska, also will be held seminar on open water swimming, which will be conducted by specialist from UK – Dave Harman and Mrs. Maryna Dvorak, specialist from Chervonograd. Porodko knows a thing or two about people with special needs, as is director of non-profit organization SAMI. Since 2009, SAMI has been one of the leaders in attracting attention to the problems of children that have terminal illnesses, orphans, and children with special needs. Porodko’s noteworthy work has received acclaim and huge recognition from Lviv City Council as well as from regional administration. Porodko and members of organizing committee seems happy with the results: “As it was expected, the Special Olympics Open Games were held on a very high level thanks to fruitful cooperation with Lviv city council, Regional Administration, friendly volunteers from Lviv University of physical culture, representative of SO in Lviv region Mrs. Alina Perederiy. All participants from Ukraine, as well as from Poland, were pleasantly excited with (the) event’s organization and hearty welcome.” Lviv Today would like to congratulate these athletes and looks forward to their return in May 2015.

Спеціальна Олімпіада була заснована в 1968 році за активної участі Юніс Кеннеді Шрайвер - сестри президента США Джона Ф. Кеннеді і відтоді виросла у всесвітній рух, що об’єднує понад 4 млн. спортсменів у 170 країнах світу. Кожна країна-учасниця має свою власну програму Спеціальних Олімпійських ігор. Україна приєдналась до цього руху в 1991 році і сьогодні об'єднує 19 тисяч спортсменів з обмеженими інтелектуальними можливостями у 16 регіонах. Кожного року цей олімпійський рух стає все більш насиченим та жваво розвивається, залучаючи нові регіони, команди та, звичайно, спортсменів. Деякі з цих спортсменів побували у Львові 3-5 жовтня і взяли участь у відкритих іграх української Спеціальної Олімпіади. Загалом, 22 команди з 12 регіонів України та команда з Польщі виступили у чотирьох дисциплінах – футбол, плавання, настільний теніс і флорбол, в яких були розіграні 54 комплекти медалей. Ігри проходили на чотирьох локаціях: "Інтерспорт" ,"Спорт Лайф" , "Динамо" ,ДЮСШ-1. Усі учасники проживали в готелі "Екотел". Футбольний турнір, що був першим у розкладі, приніс золоті медалі команді Запоріжжя, срібні - команді Харкова, а команда Добромиля здобула бронзу, перемігши гостей з Великого Любіня. Вручення медалей відбулось на церемонії відкриття перед входом в Ратушу. Церемонія відкриття складалась з підйому прапора Спеціальної Олімпіади, клятви спортсменів та поздоровлення від представників міста та області. Голова федерації футболу Львівщини Ярослав Грисьо представив призи для переможців. Змагання тривали й наступного дня; в них виступили гравці в настільний теніс, флорбол та плавці, які розіграли 24 комплекти медалей. Львівська команда з флорболу відзначилась особливо, завоювавши і срібло і бронзу.

Учасники Ігор мали також насичену культурно-розважальну програму завдяки організаторам і волонтерам з Львівського інституту фізичної культури. Тут були й огляди визначних пам'яток, відвідування спеціальних культурних і спортивних заходів, отже спортсменам у Львові не було нудно. Зокрема, учасники змагань побували на екскурсії в музеї "Арсенал", на вежі Ратуші, на боксерських матчах за участю Андрія Котельника й Олексадра Усика (квитки надала компанія "СБ Груп"), поплавали в басейні "Аквапарку", перекусили в кафе "Комуна", переглянули виставу в театрі ім. M. Заньковецької та проїхались на "Чудо-поїзді". Хто не встиг стомитись на змаганнях, під час відпочинку міг втомитись добряче! Рівень проведення змагань був високо оцінений представниками адміністрації міста, оргкомітетом, і, звичайно ж, самими спортсменами. Голова організаційного комітету відкритих ігор Спеціальної Олімпіади Андрій Породко відзначив Львів як "столицю спорту серед особливих людей!" і оголосив, що місто прийматиме наступні ігри у травні 2015 року, де організатори очікують удвічі більше спортсменів, і де будуть додані нові види спорту, зокрема, баскетбол. Також в травні 2015 у Львові, вперше в Україні пройде семінар з каякингу, який проведе спеціально запрошена спеціаліст з Польщі - Роза Банасік-Заранська, а також семінар з плавання у відкритій воді, який проведуть спеціалісти: з Великої Британії – Дейв Харман та з Червонограду – Марина Дворак. Слід зазначити, що А. Породко є керівником організації САМІ. З 2009 року САМІ є одним із лідерів у залученні уваги до проблем дітей, які мають невиліковні захворювання, сиріт і дітей з особливими потребами. Праця організації отримала визнання та численні нагороди як від Львівської міської ради, так і від регіонального керівництва. Захід був організований ГО САМІ в рамках проекту Спеціальна Олімпіада – Львів, який є спільною ініціативою СО Львівщини під керівництвом Передерій Аліни та ГО САМІ. Участю в організації ігор Спеціальної Олімпіади А. Породко та оргкомітет задоволені, адже відкриті ігри Спеціальної Олімпіади були проведені на дуже високому рівні завдяки допомозі Львівської обласної адміністрації, Львівської обласної ради, Львіської міської ради, волонтерам з Львівського університету фізичної культури. Всі учасники з України, а також з Польщі, були приємно здивовані програмою заходів і теплим прийомом. There is a great deal of responsibility laid on the medical staff as they have to interpret correctly m a n i fe s tations of a disease in order to define character of health problem and ways of its treatment. “Center of physical rehabilitation “Innovo” (translated from Latin as “renovation”) was founded in 2009. In 2014 the center received medical license and started providing services as “Physical therapy and pain management center” in both children’s and grown-ups departments. The main goal of the center is to contribute to the improvement of people’s life quality and physical condition.

EURO 2016: Ukraine Dispatches ЄВРО-2016: Macedonia in Lviv Україна - Македонія – 1:0 The upcoming UEFA football championship will take place in France only in 2016, however qualifying matches are already in full play. Three days after winning an electric 2-0 victory in Belarus, the Ukrainian national football travelled to Lviv to take Macedonia on October 12th in an important Group C qualifying match for the EURO 2016 tournament to be held in France. The 33,900 in attendance were not left disappointed either, as a first half extra-time strike by Serhiy Sydorchuk managed to hold up to give the home heroes all 3 points. It was the midfielder’s second extra-time goal in 2 matches after he netted the insurance goal in Belarus. The Ukrainians seemed to control much of the match, but couldn’t manage to put another past the Macedonian keeper. Andrei Pyatov, the Ukrainian keeper, was also up to the task stopping several chances that had Ukrainian fans’ hearts in their throats. With the win, Ukraine now sits 3rd in Group C behind Slovakia and Spain. Next up for our boys is an away match in Luxembourg on November 15th.

Через три дні після впевненої перемоги над командою Білорусі з рахунком 2:0 українська збірна приїхала до Львова, щоб зустрітись з командою Македонії 12 жовтня. Подивитись цей важливий матч у групі «C» прийшли майже 34 000 вболівальників, які не залишились розчарованими. Гра була постійно напруженою, ініціатива постійно переходила з однієї половини поля на іншу і перша половина закінчилась би безрезультатно, але на другій хвилині доданого часу Сергій Сидорчук точним ударом послав м’яч у ворота македонців. Наша збірна мала контроль над ситуацією на полі більшість часу гри, але їй ніяк не вдавалось примусити воротаря гостей ще раз дістати м’яча із сітки воріт. Та й український голкіпер Андрій П’ятов також прекрасно давав собі раду і доблесно захищав свої ворота. FC Karpaty: Moving On Up Our Boys in Green have put some distance between themselves and bottom-of-the-table Illichivets after defeating the Mariupol squad 1-0 in front of 6,400 fans at Lviv’s Stadium Ukraina. The match was a testy affair with the teams combining for a total of 6 cards. The Lions looked to be headed toward a disastrous result at home before Slovenian national defender Gregor Balazic salvaged the result with 93’ extra-time strike. The result moves Lviv into 12th-place. The team next sees action against 7th-place Zoria Luhansk.

Lviv’s Sokol Rugby Squad Wins Ukrainian Bronze Lviv played host to the return match of the two-leg 3rd-place championship in Ukrainian SuperLeague Rugby on October 25th. Lviv’s Sokol club edged Kyiv’s Age of Technology squad 30:24 to take home bronze medals as the 3rd best rugby team in Ukraine. Lviv head coach George Grabowski credits the win to the 10-point difference the team carried over from their first victory in Kyiv. Odessa’s Credo was set to take on Kharkiv’s Olympus for the Ukrainian championship.

Lviv Hosts Championship MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) Lviv’s Halychyna Sport Palace played host to championship mixed martial arts (MMA) from October 16-19. Mixed martial arts sees athletes use different forms of martial arts to find the most effective way to defeat an opponent. Competitors from several countries in Central Europe and the Caucasus competed in various weight divisions. Local fighter Roman Svysch from the Courage club was crowned champion of the light division, while Volyn’s Roman Dobrynyn finished runner-up in the 65-kg class. The highlight of the women’s event was surely the fight between Lviv’s Olena Ovchynnykova and Dnipropetrovsk Region’s Svitlana Gotsyk in the 55-kg class. Our hometown fighter needed an extra round to dispatch her opponent and add another title to her already distinguished sporting career.

Чемпіонат світу зі змішаних єдиноборств (ММА) У львівському Палаці спорту «Галичина» 16-19 жовтня 2014 відбувся чемпіонат світу зі змішаних єдиноборств (ММА). У змаганнях взяли участь спортсмени різних стилів і вагових категорій з 8 країн: Угорщини, Румунії, Італії, Молдови, Білорусії, Німеччини, Азербайджану, Туреччини та України. Перше місце в категорії ММА Light до 78 кг здобув Роман Свищ (спортивний клуб «Кураж»), на другу сходинку п’єдесталу пошани в категорії до 65 кг піднявся Роман Добринін з Волинської області. Одним з найцікавіших поєдинків, без сумніву, став бій між Оленою Овчинниковою (Львів) та Світланою Готсик (Дніпропетровська область) в категорії MMAElite до 55 кг. Переможець визначився лише в додатковому раунді, і ним стала Олена Овчинникова, здобувши ще один титул у своїй спортивній кар'єрі.

BK PolitekhnikaHalychyna Stumbles Out of the Gate Lviv’s popular Politekhnika-Halychyna has had a difficult beginning to the 2014–15 season dropping all 3 of their October contests at home to currently sit last-place in the 11-team league. The team dropped their opener 69:83 to Cherkassy in a match where the home side never really looked at home. Back-to-back losses to FerroZNTU and Mykolaiv means the team will have to dig itself out of a hole if they hope to return to the playoffs this season. The highlight of the first 3 contests has been the play of power forward Anton Davydiuk, who leads the team with 42 points, 19 rebounds, and 3 assists early in the season. Politekhnika heads out on the road in early November before returning to host DniproAzot on November 21st and Dnipro on November 23rd. All games are held at the Halychyna Sports Palace.

Dance Championship Held in Lviv Lviv recently played host to the Ukrainian Championship of Athletic Dance – Ukraine’s Titles 2014 – at Grace Sport Complex on October 12th. Lviv’s Lider Club of Modern Dance brought together over 200 dance couples from around Ukraine together for this 20th showing of the popular celebration of dance. Participants presented five dances in each of the Standard and Latin programmes. Winners included Kyiv’s V. Pidchenko/K. Parfyonova in the Open Latin category; Chernivtsi’s V. Cherney/Y. Kinaschyk in the Youth Latin category; and Khmelnitskyi’s O. Kazanovskyi/N. Sorokata in the Youth Open Standard competition.

Сезон 2014–15 для львівського баскетбольного клубу «Політехніка-Галичина» розпочався нелегко – трьома програшами на власному полі і останньою, одинадцятою, сходинкою в турнірній таблиці ліги. Перша поразка з рахунком 69:83 – від команди з Черкас в матчі, де господарі не почувались господарями поля. Потім ще дві поразки поспіль – від «Ферро-ЗНТУ» та «Миколаєва» означають, що команді доведеться рятувати себе самій, якщо вона сподівається повернутися в плей-офф цього сезону. Найкраще показав себе у цих матчах форвард Антон Давидюк, який має на своєму рахунку 42 очка, 19 підбирань і 3 передачі. «Політехніка» проведе кілька матчів на виїзді на початку листопада, перш ніж повернутися до Львова на ігри проти команди «ДніпроАзот» 21 листопада і «Дніпро» – 23 листопада. Всі ігри проводяться в Палаці спорту «Галичина».

Титули України 2014 У Львівському спортивному комплексі «Грація» 12 жовтня відбувся Чемпіонат України з танцювального спорту "Титули України 2014". Понад 200 учасників з усієї України приїхали на це танцювальне свято, що пройшло вже в 20-й раз. Учасники змагались традиційно в п'яти видах танців стандартної і п'яти видах латиноамериканської програми. Переможцем змагань в категорії Open Latin стала пара з Києва Віталій Підченко / Катерина Парфенова (№ 145, танцювальний клуб BOUS), в категорії Youth Latin – представники Чернівців – Валентин Черней / Яна Кінащик (№ 198, клуб «Карнавал»). Labour Market Index in September 2014 The index is defined as average indicator of the individual categories. Individual indicators were defined as follows: e.g. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Market salariesâ&#x20AC;?: 1*8, 7% + 2*8, 7% + 3*26, 0% + 4*48, 7% + 5*8, 7% = 3.04 EBA Western Ukrainian Branch together with Lviv Consulting Group are presenting results of the Seventh Wave of Western Ukraine Labour Index. In view of the economic situation in the country and parliamentary elections, our goal was to identify main trends and dynamics of the labour market and compare them with the previous wave indices. For the first time we asked businesses to share information how the situation in the East of Ukraine influenced people related issues. 62% of businesses were affected, as some employees were mobilized into the army, mostly in production companies except textile. 39 % of respondents, mainly providers of services did not feel the difference. 3% of companies noted a larger proposal of qualified specialists relocated from the east of Ukraine and the Crimea. Please indicate current priorities in managing Human resources in your company

In comparison with the previous periods demand for new employees from the market drastically went down. Companies prefer internal promotions or/and reduce positions due to voluntary dismissals, maternity leaves and retirements redistributing work load among existing employees. Demand for skilled workers (sales persons, buyers, machine set up men, mechanics) that persisted during year 2014 went down from 36% in the Sixth Wave to 11%. No demand for top managers in the market. Despite a very complicated situation in the economy, none of the respondents plan to reduce pay levels. 31 % of businesses have already increased salaries to cover inflation rate, 42% including manufacturing companies plan to do it to cover the inflation and currency exchange losses to employees. One third of respondents has not reviewed pay levels during the current year and do not plan to. Compared to the previous Wave, the average pay levels of workers in manufacturing companies increased by 8-12% (relatively small salary plus flexible bonuses for quality and quantity indicators). Salaries of specialists, admin and mid level managers increase to compensate inflation. Some companies do selective salary increase for key performers to retain the best talent. Salaries of employees in companies providing services have not changed much, except for workers and mid level managers pay levels decreased by 5-7 %. How would you estimate the current labor market?

A general tendency to optimize resources influenced the headcount. 36 % of respondents in the Seventh Wave (compared to 12% respondents in the previous Wave) planned to reduce headcount by the end of the year, among them representatives of the banking and IT sectors, machine building, food processing, textile and wood processing companies with number of employees from 100 to 500. Agricultural businesses diminished the number of seasonal employees. Only 32% of respondents representing automotive assembly operations and sales businesses intent to increase employee number this year (compared to 52% of respondents in the previous Labour Market Index). Compared to April 2014, Labour market Index in September 2014 went down by 0.02 and is at the level of 3.05. Thus, the labour market is still unstable.

EBA Events EBA POLITICAL PANEL DISCUSSION EBA Western Ukrainian Office organized Political Panel Discussion. The guest speakers of the Panel were Danylo Lubkivskiy (Narodniy Front), Andriy Deshchytsia (Ambassador of Ukraine in Poland), Valeriy Veremchuk (Lyashko Radical Party), Serhiy Kiral (Samopomich). The moderator of the Panel was Anton Podilchak, the board member of the EBA Western Ukrainian Office. During the Panel participants were discussing potential results of parliamentary elections, further actions after this important event and also prospects and obstacles for Ukrainian business in the implementation of the Free trade agreement between Ukraine and the EU. Participants of the panel came to conclusion that politicians and business should meet more often in order to understand each other better and create practical mechanisms for improving the business environment and investment climate together. (unknown) On Thursday October 16, participants of the Marketing Committee meeting had an opportunity to get some secrets of public speaking from Iryna Snitynska, the owner of Argus School LLC. They also learned how to feel the audience, understood the importance of flexibility and observation during the speech with the help of proposed practical exercises. During the meeting Iryna Snitynska emphasized that understanding of the audience needs, and attentiveness to the reaction of the audience are very important things for successful speech. EDUCATIONAL MASTER CLASS On the 23d of October 2014 EBA Lviv had organized educational master class on Presentation as an art of visual stories by Tetiana Zemliakova, SUCCESS MANAGEMENT COMPANY managing partner , business coach, certified management consultant. During the Master class participants had great opportunity to get practical advices for transformation of usual presentation in a compelling story with its plot and morality. Tatyana drew attention also to rules of effective usage of visual instruments for delivering information to the audience (text, pictures, slides, video, infographic etc.). It is important to remember about emotional influence on an audience. “Speakers and slides are as a soloist and a choir”, – Tatiana said. On behalf of participants of the Master class we would like to thank charming Tatiana Zemliakova for great advices, practical solutions in the sphere of modern art of presentation.

The Law of Ukraine "On Amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine on simplification of the procedure for establishing business" 1206-VII, dated 15.04.2014, has been published and comes into force on November 1, 2014 (hereinafter Law №1206). This legal innovation intends to simplify the start up and doing business in Ukraine. In particular, the Law № 1206 introduces the amendments to the following legislation of Ukraine: Law of Ukraine “On state registration of legal entities and individual entrepreneurs”, Law of Ukraine “On electronic documents and electronic document flow”, Commercial Code of Ukraine, the Civil Code of Ukraine and a number of other regulations. Law №1206 cancels registration fee for establishing new legal entity or individual entrepreneur. Though, it is worth mentioning that registration fee is retained for all other purposes, such as changes in the charter etc. Registration fee will continue to apply for the state registration of changes to the constituent documents of legal entities and for the state registration of change of name or place of residence of individual entrepreneurs. Registration fee for state registration of amendments to the constituent documents of charitable organizations will not be charged. Moreover, Law №1206 rescinds a compulsory usage of digital signature when filing documents electronically for state registration of legal entity or individual entrepreneur. In addition, mandatory use of seals by business entities of private law was also cancelled. From now on the obligation to affix a seal can be decided by written consent of the parties. Law №1206 also amends changes regarding the increase of listed information with open access for legal entities on a special web site and some other changes. For the last several months the law-making process in the country has been rather dynamic due to the intense situation and signing the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. The above-mentioned legal innovation is another step forward to the acceleration of the European integration process.
