CANADA With visa-free to EU earned, Ukraine looks at Canada next It’s been a big year for Ukraine so far – the long-awaited visa-free travel to Europe has arrived and a new free trade agreement with Canada came into effect. Both big accomplishments that Ukraine can be proud of having earned. But there have been hiccups along the way. Ireland’s Ryanair, which had signed agreements to affordably move Ukrainians to and from Europe, backed out because of what they called “meddling” by authorities at Boryspil Airport. Canada, among the first countries to recognise Ukrainian independence, has steadfastly denied visa free travel to Ukrainians (even as they have granted it to Ukrainian commerce). While Ukrainian authorities work to ease travel for Ukrainians by luring back Ryanair, what do they have to do to earn the same visa-free travel to Canada as they have already earned to Schengen Europe?

of Canada remarked that “it is incumbent upon Ukraine to meet Canada’s established criteria for a visa exemption” and states that as of May 2016 “Ukraine falls short of the [migration trends and country conditions] thresholds Canada uses to gauge suitability for a visa exemption”. The government did, however, find the country conditions in Ukraine to be suitable enough to implement the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement (CUFTA) last month. Free trade for Ukrainian business? Sure. Free travel for Ukrainian business leaders? Ahem, nope. Wait, what? Just what is it that Canada sees that Europe doesn’t?

The farce that Ukrainian travelers won’t return home The suggestion from the Canadian government response is that too many Ukrainians would overstay their visas and/or claim refugee status in Canada. These suggestions seems weak in the face of early statistics. In the first three months of visa-free travel, only 61 Ukrainians were refused entry into the EU (0.026%), mainly for incomplete documents or overstaying on previous trips. At the same time, travel to the EU increased by 10% from 2016. More travellers – more money! The same can be said about

asylum requests. Germany granted just 20 out of 2705 applications in 2015, while France granted 30 out of 1425 (2015). How many did Poland – by far the most likely place to receive asylum applications – grant in 2015? Just two.

It’s your turn Canada! So while Ukrainian authorities try to figure out the quagmire surrounding Ryanair, they should rightly be questioning their Canadian counterparts on what else needs to be done to meet Canada’s migration thresholds. While Canada has every right to set their own visa requirements, it seems odd and out of place that a country that shares such historical ties (over 125 years of Ukrainian immigration to Canada) and business ties (CUFTA) would still require a demeaning visa process for business and tourist travel. In the meantime, Ukrainians should continue to revel in their visa-free travel to Europe, and leave their hard-earned dollars in countries that recognise their accomplishments in reform. LVIV FASION WEEK SPRING / SUMMER 2018 26–29 October

The Lviv Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2018 edition is set to roll out its red carpet from 26-29 October. Once again, this glamorous event will be hosted mainly at Lviv’s D. Halytskyi International Airport, while other events will be held at new locations, like the Metropolitan A. Sheptytsky Centre and the Machine Hall at Lviv Polytechnic National University. As always, the event will feature some of Ukraine’s most renowned designers, including Marta Wachholz, Vozianov, Oksana Mukha by Kateryna Yalova, Lesia Semi, Couture de Fleur, and Olena Dats. Roksolana Bogutska will host a special show at the Mirotel Resort & Spa in Truskavets on 4 November. Leopolitan fashionistas and guests of the city will be delighted with the debut collections of Jeisoni by Novitska and Olesya Marchuk. Some special shows to check out include those from Italy’s Balossa, Germany’s Rockmädchen,

Georgia’s Tinatin Magalashvili and Ekaterine Buzaladze, and Kazakhstan’s Aidar Khan. The LFW main program will feature several projects designed to promote young and talented Ukrainian designers like Burdo, Vladyslava Matiyashek, and KartNatel. LFW lectures, workshops, and fashion-related discussions will be held at the Design House (5 Pohulyanka St.). 23RD GERMAN FILM FESTIVAL October 19–24 at Planeta Kino Cinema in Forum Lviv (7A Pid Dubom St.) For over 20 years now, the German Film Festival has offered a unique insight into the world of film in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Much has happened over that time, but German cinema has kept up with the times by becoming more international and diverse. This development mirrors not only changes to the film medium, but also societal developments, which are popular themes for filmmakers. The diversity of German cinema is sure to surprise you and will be highlighted with this year’s selection of seven films. PATRICIA KAAS – MADEMOISELLE CHANTE LE BLUES October 20 at 19:00 at SKA Stadium (39A Kleparivska St.) Patricia Kaas, a distinguished singer who has worked hard to make a name in the French music scene, will visit Lviv on 20 October. While the international music scene is largely dotted with British and American singers, Kaas worked her way up to bring fame for France. She started singing at eight and her career took off when she was hired by the German Saarbrucken club at 13. She later collaborated with French actor Gerard Depardieu, who helped her launch her first single ‘Jalouse’. Kaas found stardom with the release of her album ‘Je ted is vous’, which sold over 3 million copies and made her a household name in the German-speaking world. She has since released many other successful albums and with 17 million albums sold worldwide, is regarded as one of France’s most successful artists. KHRYSTYNA SOLOVIY’S SOLO CONCERT November 7 at 20:00 at the Lviv Opera & Ballet Theatre (28 Svobody Ave.) Beautiful Ukrainian folk singer Khrystyna Soloviy will perform at Lviv’s iconic Opera & Ballet Theatre on 7 November. SMOOTH JAZZ ARTIST KEIKO MATSUI November 6 at 19:00 at M. Zankovetska Drama Theatre (1 L. Ukrainka St.) Japanese contemporary jazz icon Keiko Matsui will delight Leopolitan jazz lovers and guests of the city with one of her stunning live shows in Lviv on November 6. The star of Smooth Jazz radio started playing the piano at five years old and has released 22 albums since her first in 1987. Matsui’s music is powerful and introspective, blending both Western and Eastern musical influences. ALESSANDRO SAFINA CONCERT IN LVIV November 16 at 19:00 at the Lviv Opera & Ballet Theatre (28 Svobody Ave.) Lviv’s wonderful Opera & Ballet Theatre will host a concert of one of Italy’s most famous vocalists – Alessandro Safina – on 16 November. Possessing a commanding tenor voice that is equally at home singing both pop and opera, Safina often blurs the boundaries between the two. Born in 1963 in Sienna, Italy, he achieved fame with his biggest hit ‘Luna (Only You)’, from the soundtrack of Portuguese serial ‘O Clone (The Clone)’. He has collaborated with the likes of British soprano Sarah Brightman, American soprano Barbara Hendricks, Korean soprano Sumi Jo, pop star Elton John, and even movie star Ewan McGregor. The celebrated singer has performed a number of concerts in Ukraine’s biggest cities since 2011. He cancelled two January 2016 concerts in Crimea after the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture threatened to cancel his other Ukrainian tour dates. GIANNI VERSACE EXHIBITION BY ALEXANDRE STEFANI 26–29 at Potocki Palace (15 Kopernyka St.) To mark the 20th anniversary of couturier Gianni Versace’s death, private collector Alexandre Stefani will present his carefully curated collection of Versace pieces as part of the Lviv Fashion Week Spring / Summer 2018 program. Versace was one of Italy’s most influential designers and to this day, his empire remains one of the most fascinating couture houses in the world. Versace acquired his unprecedented standing in the world of fashion thanks to his comprehensive knowledge of fabrics and the art of design he acquired while working as a buyer in his mother’s small family business. He became one of the world’s most renowned designers, creating fashion for stars like Naomi Campbell, Sting, and Michael Jackson in the 1980s and 1990s. Fascinated by the legendary designer’s unique character, Brazilian artist Alexandre Stefani has collected Versace pieces for more than a quarter century, making him the owner of one of the largest private collections worldwide. LVIV HALF MARATHON GRAND PRIX October 29, Beginning at 8:00 in front of the Lviv Opera & Ballet Theatre Lviv’s Grand Prix Half Marathon will come to town on October 29. Leopolitan runners and guests of the city will be able to race the 21 km main course, the 10 km ‘Lviv Run’, the 5 km ‘Grand Prix Lviv Run’, or the 2 km ‘Winners Run’. There is also the 21 km Chamber Cup relay, which will see three participants run 5 km and one run 6 km. The courses will follow the same scenic routes as last year and will be dotted with mile markers, refreshment and medical stations, and chip timing. Також відбудеться естафета на трасі 21 км, в якій три учасники подолають 5 км, а один – 6 км. In terms of historical importance, he places it alongside the idea of an independent Ukrainian state that first took root during the period of Viennese rule. “What we see today is the beautiful architecture they left behind, but these buildings are far from the only things the Habsburgs gave to Ukraine. They also introduced Ukrainians to the politics of consensus and European parliamentary traditions. Habsburg rule gave Ukrainians the chance to develop as a political nation, gaining experience in regional administrations and in Vienna itself. Many of these

LVIV SOCIETY LVIV BOOK FORUM Publishers and authors flocked to Lviv last month for the annual Lviv Book Forum. Founded in 1994, the literature festival and market attracts not only publishers, writers, and readers, but also famous celebrities, athletes, politicians, educators, and journalists, making it one of the most important social events of the season. The event featured thousands of new books and dozens of presentations and literary releases. There were also plenty of original works by Ukrainian authors, many of which focused on current events, like the War in Donbas, Russia’s annexation of Crimea, and the EuroMaidan Revolution.Honourable guests at this year’s forum included British lawyer Philippe Sands, author

of ‘East West Street: On the Origins of Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity’ and British neurosurgeon Henry Marsh, author of the widely acclaimed memoir ‘Do No Harm: Stories of Life, Death’. More than 50 authors from 25 countries were in attendance, including the likes of Germany’s Jan Wagner, Denmark’s Peter H. Fogtdal, and Switzerland’s Catalin Dorian Florescu. The forum’s five days saw over 1,000 cultural and educational events at 40 different locations in Lviv. There were also night poetry readings, a series of events dedicated to literature for seniors, and the Lviv International Literature Festival. Publishers also attended a business forum, which offered sessions on intellectual property and advertising.

RAPID TRIDENT 2017 Lviv Region’s Yavoriv International Peacekeeping Centre hosted the NATO Rapid Trident 2017 multinational military exercise from 8-23 September. This year’s exercise involved nearly 1,800 personnel from 14 nations in Europe, the UK, and North America. It was held at the request of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense according to the agreement that the US will continue to train and advise Ukrainian security forces until 2020. Rapid Trident supports the joint combined interoperability of Ukrainian, American, and allied an partner nations and mainly focused on peacekeeping and stability operations to ensure a safe and secure environment. It featured a multinational, brigadelevel, computer-assisted command post exercise, integrated with a battalionlevel field training exercise and a platoon-level situational training exercise. It also included air and ground training near Starokonstantyniv (Khmelnytsky Region), which focused on aeromedical evacuation, tactical airlift/airdrop, logistics planning, and equipment preparation.

LVIV AIRPORT AT WORLD ROUTES FORUM Representatives from Lviv’s D. Halytskyi International Airport, together with city officials, participated in the World Routes forum in Barcelona, Spain from 23–26 September. World Routes is the major global meeting space for airline, airport, and aviation stakeholders. The forum presented an unrivalled platform for route development professionals to discuss, develop, and plan their network strategies. Providing unique cost and time-saving benefits, this must-attend event attracts senior decision makers from the world’s leading aviation organisations. Over the jam-packed three day schedule, 3,000 delegates took part in over 13,000 face-to-face meetings to discuss new or existing air services. Lviv Airport currently boasts a network of 30 international destinations to cities in Europe and resort destinations in Turkey and Egypt. Unfortunately, there are no current direct flights to the USA and many important European destinations. Representing the largest airport in Western Ukraine (for routes and passengers), Lviv Airport’s participation in World Routes provided the wonderful opportunity to promote the city, improve the city’s infrastructure, and increase the number of flights between the Western Ukrainian capital and other important business destinations. The availability of direct flights in and out of Lviv is an important business criterion and a significant reason for airlines to introduce more flights to popular destinations in Europe, the UK, and the USA, and Lviv Airport Director Tetiana Romanovska says she is doing her best to attract additional airlines.

The ‘Exhibition of Rebellious Artists’ was initiated by sculptors Vasyl Yarych, Serhiy Yakunin, Vasyl Zalyasko, and graphic artists Viktoria Kovalchuk and Dmytro Paruta. Additional works by supportive artists were also showcased in an effort to attract public attention to issues at the National Union of Ukrainian Artists.

Виставку бунтарських художників ініціювали скульптори Василь Ярич, Сергій Якунін, Василь Заляско а також графіки Вікторія Ковальчук та Дмитро Парута. Також були представлені твори інших художників, щоб привернути увагу громадськості до статусу Національної спілки художників України.

FESTIVE OPENING OF THE METROPOLITAN SHEPTYTSKY CENTRE Stefan Behnisch, German Bundestag VP Johannes Singhammer, German non-profit leader Archbishop Koch, as well as Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi and Lviv Region Head Oleh Syniutka. Following the ceremony, the guests toured the five-story facility and an on-site exhibit dedicated to Metropolitan Sheptytsky. The centre features a library, office areas, exhibition and conference halls, and other spaces designed to accommodate business events, musical performances, and academic lectures. The Sheptytsky Centre is Lviv’s newest intellectual meeting place; a place of intersection for people from various cultural, scholarly, and artistic environments.

Центральною подією стало освячення та відкриття Центру Митрополита Андрея Шептицького 10 вересня. На церемонії був присутній фундатор Джеймс Темертей, архітектор Стефан Беніш, віце-президент німецького бундестагу Йоханнес Сінгхаммер, керівник німецького ГО архієпископ Кох, а також мер міста Львова Андрій Садовий та голова львівської облдержадміністрації Олег Синютка. Після церемонії гості оглянули п'ятиповерхову споруду та виставку на честь митрополита Шептицького. У центрі розташовані бібліотека, офіси, виставковий та конференц-зал, а також інші приміщення, призначені для проведення ділових заходів, музичних виступів та академічних лекцій. Центр Шептицького – це найсучасніше місце проведення інтелектуальних зустрічей у Львові; місце зустрічі людей з різних культурних, наукових і артистичних середовищ.

Lviv’s Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) marked the start of the new academic year with ‘Celebration Week’ from 9-14 September. The events marked the culmination of the university’s ‘Comprehensive Campaign’ and featured a concert at the Opera Theatre, a pilgrimage to Galician spiritual centres, a series of lectures and discussions, a TEDx conference, and a meeting between graduates of the Lviv Theological Academy, UCU, and the UCU Business School.The highlight of the event was the consecration and opening of the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Centre on 10 September. IT ARENA LVIV 2017 From the 29th of September to the 1st of October, the largest tech event in Eastern Europe – IT Arena took place in Lviv. This year, the conference gathered 2,300 participants at Arena Lviv Stadium. Among them: speakers from the world’s leading companies, top management of Ukrainian and foreign IT companies, local and international media representatives, investors, startups, IT experts and IT students. After the opening ceremony, a real marathon of speeches started in three different streams – business, technology and product. Among key speakers came Martin Woolley, Bluetooth SIG; Kerry Hallard, Global Sourcing Association; Martin Eriksson, Mind the Product; Mike Butcher, Editor-at-Large at TechCrunch; Rachel Sibley from Leap Motion and others.Within IT Arena took place traditional Startup Competition in which 30 startups (selected from more than 100 startups which applied) gave their best presentations. After their presentations and questions from jury members, the top 11 among them were selected: Senstone, GameTree, Bright Advise, BotMakers, EVE.Calls, Octogin, Cards, AxDraft, CertChain, IRAengine, and Docsify. Finally the Startup Competition Awards were presented as follows The Best Pitch went to IRAengine – an alternative marketplace with intelligent agent for automation

of conversational sales and marketing calls. They received an invitation to the Slush 100 Pitching Competition. The Best B2C – Senstone, a voice tracker that lets people capture their thoughts and life experiences on the go in just a finger snap – won an invitation to the Seedstars Ukraine national finals. The Best B2B – Docsify, a G -suite tool that helps salespeople to take only right sales actions based on recipient’s behavior, won an invitation to The Next Web’s Bootstrap Program.Event’s second day featured the incredible – open air electronic music party Futureland Festival which took place right on the stadium field. In addition to the participants of the conference, the festival was attended by over 2,000 fans of electronic music. In spite of a (very) cold autumn night, the whole stadium got heated up by Cassius, real stars of the European electronic music scene, as well as Ukrainian musicians Cape Cod, SE62, Pahatam.The third day of IT Arena was untypical for the tech conference. 28 meetups took place in 9 different locations in the historical part of Lviv. The participants had the opportunity to gather in small groups and discuss concrete topics, and first-time visitors of the city had an opportunity to see the historic city center of Lviv with its cozy restaurants and cafes.

Docsify, інструмент у хмарній технології G-suite, який допомагає продавцям приймати рішення на основі поведінки клієнта, здобув нагороду Best B2B та запрошення до програми Bootstrap Next Web.

Вечірка фестивалю електронної музики "Futureland" відбулася на полі стадіону як частина форуму. Незважаючи на дуже холодний осінній вечір, тут зібрались понад 2 тисячі любителів електронної музики, яких розважали своїм мистецтвом європейська суперзірка дискотек Cassius та українські діджеї Cape Cod, SE62 та Pahatam. За час форуму відбулось 28 групових зустрічей у дев'яти різних цікавих місцях історичного Львова. На додаток до численних обговорень учасники такого серйозного заходу мали можливість відкрити для себе західноукраїнську столицю та насолодитися затишними ресторанами й кав’ярнями міста.

What you might not know is that Lviv has a long history as some venues were hospitably welcoming guests hundreds of years ago! The Big Plate restaurant network started 10 years ago and has since managed to become a highly rated company that offers excellent service, exquisite cuisine, and spectacular parties. Recently, during renovations at the 13 Valova St. location, a 19th Century fresco depicting a scene of Lviv was discovered on one of its walls. The fresco depicts the Western Ukrainian capital as it was several centuries ago, featuring a defensive tower – part of the earthworks found in the 15th and 16th centuries. The restoration of the fresco was conducted by Olha and Maryana Motyka. This exciting discovery became the first step in the research of the building’s history. As it turns out, the place has been in the food

making business for over 100 years already! The discovery also influenced the “destiny” of the Big Plate venue, as it’s been decided to continue the century-long tradition of hospitality. More recently, the building was reconstructed by famous architects W. Derdacki and W. Minkiewicz into a four-story building with exceptional commercial apartments. Later, the venue morphed into a car sales bureau, before turning into the Old Lion coffee shop. Some Leopolitans can still remember this place as an ice cream café that offered fragrant coffee, Staryi Rynok liquor, and yummy ice cream. Today Big Plate is filled with elegance and light, with murals that add special charm and authenticity. EBA MEETS THE ANTYMONOPOLY COMMITTEE OF UKRAINE On September 20, participants of the EBA Western Ukrainian Office, representatives of partner organizations in the region – Oksana Kuleba from the Business Community Club Ukraine and Lilia Dolinska from the Association of Lviv Region Taxpayers met management team of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine and the Heads of territorial offices in Western Uraine. Maria Nizhnyk, the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee asked the business to inform the Committee about violations of the rules of fair competition, including the cases when the state support individual economic interests. Among other things the participants discussed the issues concerning the tariffs for connection and consumption of electricity and overall business relations with Oblenergo, as well as the question of setting prices for air transportation in Ukraine. We thank representatives of the Antimonopoly Committee for openness in discussing problems of business.

Could you please briefly explain those changes? Kind regards, Michael Dear Michael, indeed, on September 27, 2017 the Law of Ukraine "On Amendments to Some Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Eliminating Barriers to Attracting Foreign Investment" came into force. The Law provides that the foreigners who are founders/shareholders/beneficiary owners (controllers) of the Ukrainian companies are able to obtain a temporary residence permit without requirement of prior employment in Ukraine under compliance of both of following conditions: • Foreigner is the founder / shareholders / beneficiary owner (controller) of Ukrainian company, the data on which are entered into the Unified State Register; • Foreigner/foreign legal entity owned by such foreigner/stateless person holds the share in the charter capital of Ukrainian legal entity in amount of not less than hryvnia equivalent of EUR 100.000,00 in accordance with the official exchange rate of the National Bank of Ukraine on the date of investing. In order to confirm the investment, the applicant has to submit the relevant confirming documents, depending on the form, in which the contribution to the authorized capital of the company was made (monetary form, movable property, real estate etc.). Temporary residence permits for this category of persons will be issued for a term of 2 years with a possibility of further prolongations. Such legislative changes have enabled foreign investors to stay in Ukraine lawfully during the validity of the temporary residence permit and to control the activity of their own companies in Ukraine without obtaining of work permit or permit for immigration to Ukraine. In addition, the Law specified the list of requirements and simplified the procedures applicable for the foreign employees, including for the following categories: foreign highly paid professionals, founders/shareholders/beneficiaries (controllers) of a legal entity established in Ukraine, graduates of the universities included in the first hundred of the world university rankings, foreign creative professions and foreign IT professionals. The law established certain requirements for each category, including to the list of documents that must be submitted for obtaining of work permit, the validity period of the work permit (up to 3 years) and special minimum wage level for the employee of the relevant category. However, the law has not yet been verified in practice and it will be possible to evaluate its effectiveness only after certain period of time after it came into force. 2011–2016

INVICTUS GAMES D E B U T Inspired by the USA’s Warrior Games, Britain’s Prince Harry founded the games in 2014 to showcase the strength and abilities of service people that had suffered life-changing injuries in battle. Similar to Paralympic competitions, the event differs in one key way – only athletes who suffered disabilities in battle are invited to attend. The event is one way to draw attention to the contributions and difficulties Ukrainian service people face. “The Invictus Games aim to overcome stereotypes about disabled servicemen (sic), replacing them with a sense of pride and respect for people who haven’t lost their zest for life despite the terrible ordeals they’ve been through”, reads the Ukrainian team website. The Invictus Games – a sporting festival that saw more than 550 veterans from 17 countries compete in 12 disciplines – wrapped up with a star-studded closing ceremony in Toronto, Canada on 30 September. Ukraine was invited to participate for the first time and sent a team of 15 athletes to participate in events like athletics, powerlifting, swimming, archery, rowing on simulators, and highway cycling. The Ukrainian national team has won 14 medals (8 gold, 4 silver, 2 bronze) showing spectacular results and finishing on the 2nd place in teams ratings.

Lviv was represented by Roman Panchenko, Dmytro Sydoruk, Dmytro Afanаsiev, and Ukraine’s only woman representative, Kateryna Mykhailova. Panchenko won gold in archery, while Sydoruk, a junior world champion, took silver. The two, alongside Mykhailova, also took team silver. Serhii Torchinskiy won Ukraine’s first medal, a bronze in 1F4 shot put, while 28-year-old Defence Ministry soldier Pavlo Budayevsky led the way with four swimming medals. Ukrainian Invictus Games athletes show everyone that despite their injuries, life goes on and great achievements are possible. НА "ІГРАХ НЕСКОРЕНИХ" “Ігри нескорених” (Invictus Games) заснував британський принц Гаррі 2014 року (за зразком Warrior Games, що проводяться у США), щоб продемонструвати сили та здібності військовослужбовців, які зазнали серйозних травм на полі бою. Хоч й подібні до паралімпійських, ці змагання відрізняються тим, що в них беруть участь лише ветерани військових сил. Такі змагання – це один зі способів привернути увагу до вкладу в обороноздатність країни та проблем українських військовослужбовців. "Програма Invictus Games спрямована на подолання стереотипів щодо військовослужбовців-інвалідів, заміняючи їх почуттям гордості і поваги до людей, які не втратили свою життєву цілеспрямованість, незважаючи на страшні випробування, які вони пройшли", – написано на вебсайті української команди.

Україна була запрошена до участі в цих змаганнях вперше і відправила в Торонто команду з 15 спортсменів таких дисциплін – легка атлетика, пауерліфтинг, плавання, стрільба з лука, веслування на тренажері та велосипедні перегони на шосе. Наша збірна продемонструвала феноменальний результат, посівши друге командне місце та здобувши 14 медалей (8 золотих, 4 срібні, 2 бронзові). Загалом у змаганнях взяли участь понад 550 ветеранів із 17 країн, що змагались у 12 дисциплінах. Львів представляли Роман Панченко, Дмитро Сидорук, Дмитро Афанасьев та єдина жінка в нашій команді Катерина Михайлова. Роман Панченко здобув золоту медаль у стрільбі з лука, а Дмитро Сидорук, чемпіон світу серед юніорів – срібну. Разом з Катериною Михайловою вони здобули срібло у командному заліку. Water Polo: Lviv Wins 4th Straight Water Polo Championship Lviv’s SKA sport complex hosted the Ukraine Cup 2017 water polo competition on 24 September. The event saw hometown favourites Dynamo top the 10 best teams in Ukraine to defeat team of Kharkiv region 11-5 in the final to claim their fourth straight title. The brilliance of coaches Oleksiy Shvedov and Igor Zinkevych led the team to their fifth championship overall and resulted in what has become a Dynamo tradition after winning major tournaments – seeing overjoyed Dynamo players tackling their coach into the pool!

Водне поло: Львівські ватерполісти – чемпіони! У львівському спортивному комплексі "СКА" 24 вересня відбулись змагання з водного поло Кубку України-2017. Найкращою з десяти командучасниць стала львівська команда "Динамо", яка перемогла у фіналі команду Харківської області з рахунком 11:5 і стала переможцем вчетверте поспіль. Спільні зусилля тренерів Олексія Шведова та Ігоря Зінкевича привели команду до її п'ятого чемпіонського титулу і, за традицією команди після перемоги на великих турнірах широкоплечі ватерполісти, наче діти, з радістю викупали своїх наставників у басейні.

Archery: Golden Autumn 2017 competition Lviv has a long history with the sport of archery – the World Archery Federation was founded in the city way back in 1931! The Western Ukrainian capital is home to Ukraine’s leading archery school and boasts a long list of international and Olympic champions testifying to the caliber of local talent. Lviv’s Dynamo Stadium played host to the 54th Gold Autumn archery competition from 12-16 September, which featured 230 athletes from around Europe and across Ukraine. The event marked the 60th anniversary of the Lviv Regional Archery Federation and offered archers the opportunity to qualify for their national teams, many of which will compete in the next Olympic Games. Leopolitan archery fans and guests of the city were treated to the event finals in front of the city’s iconic Opera & Ballet Theatre.

Cтрільба з лука: Золота осінь 2017 Для тих, хто ще не знає – Всесвітня федерація стрільби з лука була заснована саме у Львові 1931 року! Західноукраїнська столиця є провідною школою стрільби з лука в Україні та має довгий список міжнародних та олімпійських чемпіонів, який незаперечно свідчить про кількість та якість місцевих талантів. На львівському стадіоні "Динамо" з 12 по 16 вересня пройшли традиційні змагання зі стрільби з лука "Золота осінь", у яких взяли участь 230 спортсменів з різних країн Європи та України. Змагання було приурочено до 60-річчя Львівської обласної федерації стрільби з лука, а спортсмени мали прекрасну нагоду позмагатись за участь у своїх збірних, багато з яких виступатимуть на наступних Олімпійських іграх. Фінал змагань відбувся на очах усіх любителів цього виду спорту на площі перед оперним театром. LVIV TODAY | October 2017
