Elgin Academy’s Summer Program provides opportunities for active learning by offering a variety of enrichment, athletic, academic, and creative programs for students in preschool through grade 12. Participants can choose from a diverse selection of programs allowing them to follow their own interests and to personalize their summer experience. In EA’s Summer Program, students develop self-confidence, try out new pursuits, assume leadership roles, and take risks with innovative new concepts in a supportive environment. Summer Theater June 12 - 30 | 1st-12th Grades The summer theater program provides an emotionally safe environment where students are comfortable taking risks for their own personal growth and can acquire a sense of accomplishment through creative experiences.

Musical Theater Camp Elgin Academy’s Musical Theater Camp combines all the components of a professional performance in a fun camp atmosphere! Every participant will be assigned a role to perform for a final presentation and work together with staff to help create sets, costume pieces, and props. Time: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Fee: $650

Special Performance Families are invited to a special performance on Friday, June 30, at 6:00 p.m. in Kimball Street Theatre.

ADVENTURE CAMP PROGRAM June 12 - July 28 | PS-8th Grades Enrollment can be customized to fit your summer schedule; attend only the weeks that work for your family or choose the per-day option. Morning, afternoon, and extended care programs are also available.

Adventure Camp Adventure Camp offers a fun and engaging program with exciting daily themes. Different hands-on enrichment activities are planned for each day. Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Fee: $25 per day Afternoon Adventure Make it a full day of camp and stay for Afternoon Adventure! Our afternoon session includes plenty of outdoor activities, sports, projects, and swimming. Time: 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Fee: $25 per day

Extended Care Program Extend your day to include more exciting camp activities with your new friends. Join us for quiet morning activities in Camp Sunrise or continue the fun in the afternoon with Camp Sunset. Camp Sunrise Time: 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. Fee: $18 per day Camp Sunset Time: 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Fee: $25 per day

steam PROGRAMs Programs for K-9th Grades STEAM programs focus on guided student inquiry, active learning, and critical thinking that allow students to connect principles in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. STEAM programs foster students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problemsolving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process.

Gamebots with Snapology Get ready for a fun week of robotics inspired by your favorite arcade games! We will build and program pinball machines, Duck Hunt, Just Dance, and more while learning about gear ratio, pulleys, sensors, and other STEAM-related concepts. Dates: June 19-22 Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Grades: Entering 1-6 Registration Fee: $140 Lego Star Wars Movie Making Bring Star Wars alive by creating an amazing movie with stop motion animation using LEGOÂŽ bricks. Children will work in teams to produce their very own movie complete with dialogue and sound effects. Movies are uploaded to the Snapology YouTube Page for family and friends to see how cool they are!

Lego Pokemania Come join Snapology for Pokemania. Students will build and explore the world of Pokemon as they create their own gyms, battles, and even their very own generation of Pokemon. Children will also learn about real world science as they learn about the habitats of the Pokemon. Your child will have a blast becoming the best Pokemon trainer ever. Dates: July 10-13 Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Grades: Entering K-5 Registration Fee: $140

Discovery Academy Discovery Academy provides Middle School students with an opportunity to follow their interests and discover new talents. The program focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) curriculum. The enrichment classes offered strive to encourage creativity, innovation, problem solving, and critical thinking skills. Classes employ an active learning style and are designed to be interactive and hands on. Instructors are certified teachers or have an expertise in their field. Students choose three classes from the course list below and will rotate through each of their chosen classes every morning, attending each class for ten sessions over the two weeks. Dates: July 17-28 Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Intro to Vector Graphics Students will learn how to use the pen tool to create vector graphics, and draw themselves as a cartoon. This course will utilize Adobe Illustrator, an industry standard software for graphic design.

Game Design Students will design a 2D platform genre game (similar to Mario) from the ground up using GML. They will utilize the Gamemaker studio software, an open source program, so they can take what is learned and continue their exploration at home.

Introduction to Digital Photo Editing Students will use Adobe Photoshop to extract and adjust photos. We will cover how to create collages, recolor photos, and modify photos in fun ways.

Introduction to Engineering (i2e) Explore various engineering disciplines through multimedia presentations and hands-on team projects. Learn about engineering careers and where engineering exists in our everyday lives. Forensics On no! A crime has been committed on campus! We need detectives to help solve our case. Students will be learning to analyze fingerprints, understand blood and hair evidence, and more. Coding through Khan Academy Students will learn how to use JavaScript language to create drawings and animations, and use HTML to understand the basics of creating webpages.

Scratch the Coding Itch Explore coding through daily projects that focus on code design, creativity, and proper programming techniques. Learn various coding concepts such as sequencing, conditionals, iterations and debugging. Digital Filmmaking Learn the fundamental elements of visual storytelling, from screenwriting and storyboarding to shooting, editing, and post-production, including how to modify sound and edit visuals effects using Adobe Premiere ProÂŽ. LEGO Robotics Students will be utilizing LEGO Mindstorm kits and various LEGO Robotics materials to introduce them to and continue the practice of basic programming as well as problem solving strategies.

Fun With Chemistry Explore a variety of fun chemistryrelated topics while learning about polymers, acids and bases, molecular structure, and more, through a wide range of hands-on activities. 3D Printing 3D printing provides the potential for every student to create, innovate and fabricate. Learn about 3D printer processes and hardware as you create, modify, and print your own 3D models. Stop Motion Animation Explore the elements needed to create a popular form of video art. Students will develop skills in photography, video editing, and storytelling, creating an original stop motion animation video.

summer athletics Programs for PS-12th Grades Elgin Academy’s summer Athletic Program creates an atmosphere that plays a significant role in shaping the character, integrity, and sportsmanship of all student-athletes.

Middle School Boys Basketball This camp covers the five main principles of basketball: dribbling, shooting, inside scoring, passing, and defense. Each day a different skill will be emphasized as athletes are challenged to “Get Better” in a positive coaching environment! Dates: June 26-30 Time: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Grades: Entering 5-8 Registration Fee: $140

Middle School Girls Basketball Campers will work on the fundamentals of basketball including shooting, dribbling, rebounding, passing, defense, and offense moves. Campers will be challenged each day to compete at their highest level while incorporating good sportsmanship.

Upper School Girls Basketball The emphasis of this camp is on strengthening skills and fundamentals of basketball. Individual skill drills will include shooting, dribbling, rebounding, passing, defense and offense moves. Athletes will utilize skills developed in camp to compete in the Varsity Summer League games. Dates: June 19-23 Time: 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Grades: Entering 9-12 Registration Fee: $140

Middle School Volleyball Camp Campers will learn proper passing, setting, attacking, and serving. Fundamentals and court knowledge will be taught through instructional drills and game-like situations. Athletes of all levels will be challenged to improve their skills and sportsmanship. Dates: July 24-28 Time: 3:00 - 5:30 p.m. Grades: Entering 5-8 Registration Fee: $140 Upper School Volleyball Camp Athletes will learn proper passing to target, advanced setting, advanced attacking, and serving. Game scenarios will be used to teach decision making, increase reaction time, and challenge players. Dates: June 26-30 Time: 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. Grades: Entering 9-12 Registration Fee: $140

Challenger Sports British Soccer Camps Challenger Sports’ British Soccer Camp is the most popular soccer camp in the country based upon one of the most innovative approaches to coaching youth soccer in the US and Canada. With programs for each age, the curriculum includes a variety of foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, freestyle soccer, small-sided games, and coached scrimmages. enrichment programs Programs for PS-12th Grades Academic enrichment classes help students enhance their skills and improve their performance in a variety of areas. Students can study concepts in greater depth, breadth, and complexity, and to pursue learning of their own interests during the summer. 2017 Test Preparation Courses Gain an extra edge when taking the ACT/SAT by enrolling in a test preparation class. Join Elgin Academy’s experienced faculty and college counselors to brush up on your skills and learn valuable testing strategies. Summer Reading Elgin Academy is a host location for Summer Reading Programs affiliated with Northern Illinois University Outreach. Classes run on our campus Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays from June 12 to July 16, 2017.
