una agradable experiencia, culinaria y musical, para los sentidos 1.

Menú d-gustado: 1. Ensalada majorera: con una base de lechuga, manzana, cebolla, zanahoria rallada, queso majorero tierno, salteado de pimientos con dátiles, pipas de calabaza, tomate, aceitunas y mazorquitas. 2. Tequeños: típico de Venezuela y también de Tenerife. Queso majorero envuelto en hojaldre. 3. M ajogrote con nachos de batata: paté de queso majorero curado, decorado con mojo de cilantro y acompañado de batatas cortadas finas, fritas en aceite de Oliva. 4. Croquetas al estilo Agapito: croquetas de atún con salsa de tomate casero. 5. Berenjenas con miel de palma. 6. Tarta de plátano y chocolate.

Hace más de 30 años, Agapito y Cristina construían El Rancho; ambos se conocen en Canadá, ella de Guatemala y él majorero de Villaverde. En su camino por tierras extranjeras, Agapito padre, cocinero, conoció muchas cocinas que quiso plasmar en este restaurante que creó en su tierra natal, una vez que retornó. Su hijo Aga, tras el fallecimiento del padre, quiso continuar con este legado, «había mucha carga emocional entre estas paredes». Para homenajear a su padre, un auténtico pionero en Fuerteventura, sigue manteniendo algunos de los platos internacionales que este proponía, pero adaptándolos a los tiempos modernos y, sobre todo, a su estilo, y añadiendo platos nuevos con producto y toque canario, cuidando no solo la calidad sino también la presentación —emplatado— de los mismos. Aga es músico y terapeuta, por ello entiende el salir a cenar como vivir una experiencia y disfrutar, no solo de los platos y la comida sino también de la música y el ambiente que se crea, en un local donde se da importancia a los eventos, especialmente musicales.

Cuentan con una carta fija, de tapas y platos, y todas las semanas proponen novedades fuera de carta, todos pensados para compartir, a precios muy populares. Su carta de vinos también cambia cada cierto tiempo, destacan los vinos jóvenes de las Islas Canarias, además de los habituales. Aga se siente muy agradecido a sus padres, por haber creado un restaurante de tal magnitud, y a su equipo formado por Luci, Carmen, Dani y él mismo, y a su madre y su hermana, que le ayudan en otras labores; su hermana prepara riquísimas tartas caseras que varían casi semanalmente. El Rancho es, y será, un lugar donde los clientes, con el tiempo amigos, sientan emociones a través de la música, de la comida, del ambiente, de la posibilidad de charlar en un lugar acogedor… Todos los jueves bajan el precio de sus platos más emblemáticos, como las riquísimas arepas por 1,50 euros. Los viernes nos ofrecen «Gastro-Conciertos», donde saborear su buena oferta culinaria mientras disfrutas de un concierto en su agradable salón, preferiblemente bajo reserva, pues cada vez cuentan con más público.

Over 30 years ago Agapito and Cristina built El Rancho; They met in Canada, she is from Guatemala and he ia a majorero from Villaverde. On his way through foreign lands Agapito’s father, a cook, got to know diffent cuisines that he wanted to show in this restaurant he created in his homeland once he returned. His son Aga, after the death of his father, wanted to continue this legacy, «there were many feeling hidden within these walls.» To honor his father, a true pioneer in Fuerteventura, he still keeps some international dishes that his father suggested but adapting them to modern times and

especially to his style, and adding new dishes with Canarian product and touch, taking care not only of their quality but also their presentation and plating up. Aga is a musician and therapist, so he understands dining out as living an experience and enjoying not only the food but also the music and the atmosphere created in a place where importance is given to events, especially musical ones. They also have a fixed menu of tapas and dishes, and every week they include new extra dishes, all designed to share, at very affordable prices. The wine list also changes from time to time, standing out young wines of the Canary Islands, apart from the usual ones. Aga is very grateful to his parents for having created a restaurant of such magnitude, and to his team, made up by Luci, Carmen, Dani and himself, and also to his mother and his sister who help him in other tasks; his sister prepares delicious homemade cakes that vary almost weekly. El Rancho is, and will be, a place where customers, who become friends over time, feel emotions through music, food, the environment, the chance to chat in a cosy place. Every Thursday they lower the price of their most popular dishes, like the delicious arepas, for 1.50 euros. GILBERT BÁEZ

Al nacer en un estado costero de Venezuela, su conexión con el mar fue a temprana edad y, desde que recuerda, la playa fue su patio de juegos. Gilbert es de esos surfistas que lleva en los ojos el brillo de los que han encontrado un camino en la vida de la mano del surf; que surfea para divertirse, para crecer personalmente y para ayudar a otros a disfrutar de una vida marcada por las olas.

Macaronesia: De todos los deportes acuáticos, ¿cuál es el que más te apasiona y con el que has destacado? Gilbert: Me encanta el surf en toda su extensión. Corro olas con tablas cortas, retros, longboards y, desde el 2012, he estado practicando el paddleboard y stand up paddleboard, modalidades que me han permitido poder asistir a numerosas competiciones internacionales: 2 campeonatos mundiales, representando a Venezuela, (Perú 2013 y Nicaragua 2014), Juegos Bolivarianos de Playa 2014, y este año participé, como ficha canaria, en el Sup Challenge de Fuerteventura y en el Campeonato Europeo, en la playa de Somo, Cantabria.

M: Háblanos del proyecto que tenías en Venezuela «Los Cocos Surf School». G: «Los Cocos Surf School» nace de la necesidad de brindarle, a los chicos de escasos recursos económicos de la zona, una opción deportiva, recreativa y formadora de valores sociales y ecológicos, alejándolos de los flagelos que en su entorno viven a diario: drogas, delincuencia, prostitución, maltrato infantil… Cabe destacar que de este proyecto hemos sacado hasta un campeón mundial ISA, como es el caso de nuestro alumno Yoisis Delgado, que estuvo con nosotros en el programa desde el 2009, beneficiándose de nuestras becas y ayudas para materiales deportivos, educación e incluso alimentación. Sin embargo,

nuestro proyecto nunca contó con la ayuda del gobierno, ni regional ni central, y, con la crisis económica, las empresas amigas que nos apoyaban no pudieron más. M: ¿Cuándo decides venir de Venezuela y por qué? G: A principios de este año la crisis económica, social y moral del país comenzó a llegar a niveles muy altos. No había manera económica de mantener el proyecto y además tenía una hija de 2 años que necesitaba cosas básicas como pañales, leche… y decidí escribir una carta a la Federación Canaria y a las escuelas federadas, contándoles que soy el hijo de un canario que se fue a Venezuela en los 50, por la crisis española, y que ahora la vida me ponía en la misma situación que vivió mi

padre, teniendo que emigrar a su tierra. La respuesta de la Federación Canaria y de la totalidad de las escuelas federadas fue inmediata y de apoyo total. M: ¿Por qué a Fuerteventura? G: Porque me enamoré del proyecto que lleva «Fuerte Tribu Club de Surf» con los niños de la isla, y se parecía mucho a lo que hacía en Venezuela, guardando las diferencias antes mencionadas. M: ¿A qué te dedicas en la actualidad en la isla? G: Actualmente sirvo como voluntario en el «Club de Surf Fuerte Tribu», trabajando aspectos de tecnificación y entrenamiento funcional. También estoy como team rider, representando

una marca llamada Rrd (Roberto Ricci design), a través de su representante Ocean Calling, en Lajares. M: El surfing es más que un deporte, ¿qué es para ti? G: El surfing es mi vida entera. Le he entregado todo y él me ha dado también todo lo que tengo y lo que soy. M: Algo más que quieras contarnos… G: Quiero agradecer muchísimo la gran ayuda de muchas personas que han sido pilares, para que este proceso de comenzar de nuevo esté lleno de apoyo y fraternidad. A la Federación Canaria de Surf; a todas las escuelas de surf que respondieron ese correo, orientándome y ayudándome; a Pili de «Fuerte Tribu

Club de Surf», quien me recibió en su casa y, desde entonces, no ha parado de velar porque estemos bien mi esposa, mi hija y yo; a todos mis compañeros, monitores de Fuerte Tribu, que han sido esos hermanos, tíos y, hasta padres, que dejamos en Venezuela; a Simone, de la tienda Ocean Calling, que me ha brindado la oportunidad de tener el apoyo de su tienda y la marca que representa Rrd; y a todos mis compañeros de Sup, con los que comparto a diario en Majanicho, y que me han abierto un ladito en el pico: Iballa Ruano, Jaran Rodríguez, Ethiene y su esposa, Lele, Kais y todos los que aún no sé su nombre, pero sí su buena vibra.

Hometown: Vargas State, Venezuela. Age: 44 After being born in a coastal state of Venezuela, its connection to the sea began at an early age and, since he remembers, the beach has been his playground. Gilbert is one of those surfers who feels the happiness of having found in surf a way through life; who surfs for fun, to grow personally and to help others enjoy a life marked by waves. Macaronesia: Of all the water sports, which is the one you feel more passionate about and has made you stand out? Gilbert: I love surfing in its entirety. I catch waves on short boards, retro boards, long boards and, since 2012, I have been practising paddle board and stand up paddle, which have enabled me to attend many international competitions: 2 world championships, representing Venezuela, (Peru 2013 and Nicaragua 2014), Bolivarian Beach Games 2014, and this year I participated as a representative of the Canary Isalnds, in the Sup Challenge Fuerteventura and the European Championship in Somo beach, Cantabria. .8

M: Tell us about the project you had in Venezuela «Los Cocos Surf School». G: «Los Cocos Surf School» was born from the need to provide guys from the area, with limited economic resources, with a sport and recreational option, forming social and ecological values, taking them away from the afflictions in their daily living environment: drugs, crime, prostitution, child abuse ... Note that out of this project we have obtained an ISA world champion, such as our student Yoisis Delgado, who has been with us in the program since 2009, benefiting from our grants and support for sport equipment, education and even food. However, our project has never been supported by the government, either regional or central, and due to the economic crisis, friendly companies who had supported us couldn’t do it any longer. M: When did you decide to return from Venezuela and why? G: At the beginning of this year the economic, social and moral crisis in the country began to reach very high levels. There was no financial way to keep this project and also a 2-year-old daughter

who needed basic things like diapers, milk ... so I decided to write a letter to the Canary Federation and its member schools, telling them that I am the son of a Canarian inhabitant that went to Venezuela in the 50s, due to the Spanish crisis, and now life was making me face the same situation as my father’s, having to emigrate from his land. The response of the Canarian Federation and all its member schools was immediate and total support. M: Why to Fuerteventura? G: Because I fell in love with the project run by «Fuerte Tribu Surf Club» with the children of the island, as it looked very much like what I was doing in Venezuela, except for the above mentioned differences. M: What do you do nowadays on the island? G: I currently serve as a volunteer in «Fuerte Tribu» Surf Club, working aspects of modernization and functional training. I also work as team rider, representing a brand called Rrd (Roberto Ricci design), through its representative Ocean Calling in Lajares. M: Surfing is more than a sport, what is it

for you? G: Surfing is my life. I have given it everything and it has also given me everything I have and what I am. M: Anything else you want to tell ... FEEL FIT creando tendencia FEEL FIT: CREATING TREND

El pasado mes de noviembre pudimos asistir a la reinauguración del antiguo gimnasio del Papagayo Fitness Center que, bajo la dirección de Pedro Delgado, se ha convertido en Feel Fit, un concepto que va más allá de la vertiente lúdica y estética del ejercicio físico, apostando por mejorar la salud, el bienestar y, en general, la calidad de vida de las personas.

Macaronesia: ¿Cuáles son los objetivos de Feel Fit? Pedro: En Feel Fit queremos ayudar a la gente a ponerse en forma y a entender esto como un concepto holístico y no como una actividad aislada, donde la idea es recuperar una salud y unos hábitos que, antropológicamente, hemos ido perdiendo. Nuestro principal objetivo es que nuestros clientes puedan llegar a cumplir los suyos. M: ¿Cuándo surge esta idea? P: Es un proyecto que llevo madurando muchos años. Empecé como encargado de centros deportivos, en varios hoteles de la isla, pero soy una persona muy inquieta y me gusta trabajar con mi propia metodología, así que he dado el paso hasta crear Feel Fit, con un equipo de profesionales formados y acreditados: monitores de sala, entrenadores personales, nutricionistas, monitores de actividades dirigidas… M: ¿Los puntos fuertes? P: Los pilares de Feel Fit son 4: alimentación funcional, como la base fundamental, ya que hay que alimentarse de manera adecuada a la actividad que vamos a realizar en cada momento del día; entrenamiento, para mejorar las

cualidades y actitudes físicas; descanso, que es el que va a permitir que consigamos los objetivos, y suplementación deportiva, que nos aporta los nutrientes, a nivel energético, reparador y regulador, que no conseguimos obtener con los alimentos. M: ¿Qué hace diferente a Feel Fit? P: En lo personal, nos preocupamos mucho para que cada cliente tenga lo que necesita, haciéndole un estudio metabólico basal y unas medidas de antropometría, para que sepa dónde se encuentra y en qué puede mejorar, teniendo en cuenta multitud de factores que hacen que cada persona sea única. En nuestro programa, ofrecemos clases de danza-fusión oriental (danza hindú, danza del vientre…), enfocadas a aumentar la capacidad de expresión corporal, y también somos pioneros en Body Art, que es un concepto americano, mezcla entre yoga, Pilates y danza que, a parte de la expresión corporal, mejora la tonificación profunda de la musculatura. Y en lo que hace referencia al equipamiento, disponemos de una sala de musculación totalmente nueva, con la maquinaria más puntera del mercado.

PRIMERA SESIÓN GRATUITA En nuestro lema de seguir creando tendencias, estamos especializándonos en una de las nuevas ramas del bioﬁtness, que es un sistema de electro-estimulación muscular (EMS). Trabajamos con la marca WAV-E, que consta de un traje de tecnología bluetooth, donde los impulsos eléctricos que produce la máquina van directamente a los músculos, gracias a unos sensores, colocados estratégicamente en las diferentes zonas musculares, y que nos ayuda a llevar un doble entrenamiento simultáneo, mediante una electroestimulación externa (la creada por la máquina) y otra interna (que es la normal, creada por nuestro cerebro, y que lleva el impulso eléctrico hasta la motoneurona muscular). Los beneficios de este sistema son infinitos, ya que aumenta la tonificación muscular, aumenta el VO2 max (volumen máximo de oxígeno), reduce los niveles de grasa, aumenta la tasa de metabolismo basal, con lo cual, en reposo, se consume mayor cantidad de calorías, manteniendo nuestro peso graso bajo, siempre que la alimentación sea correcta. Todo esto hace de Feel Fit un centro único en la isla de Fuerteventura.

Our main goal is to get our customers to meet theirs. M: When did this idea come up? Q: This is a project that has been growing for many years. I started as manager of sports centers in several hotels on the island, but I'm very restless and I like working with my own methodology, so I've taken the initiative to create Feel Fit, with a team of trained and accredited professionals: room monitors, personal trainers, nutritionists, trainers for monitored activities ... M: The strengths? P: Feel Fit pillars are 4: functional nutrition, as the fundamental basis, since we need to feed adequately to the activity to be performed at every moment of the day; training to improve the physical qualities and attitudes;

TATTOO EN LAJARES Hace ahora un año, Simone, conocido por todos como Randagio, abrió en Lajares un estudio de tatuajes, para asentarse en nuestra isla y ejercer la profesión a la que ha estado dedicado durante más de 20 años: el arte del Tattoo.

Macaronesia: ¿Por qué este nombre? Randagio: Randagio es como me suelen llamar a mí. Randagio significa callejero. Así me siento yo, después de muchos años viajando a causa de mi trabajo. M: Un estudio de 300m2, ubicado en Lajares… Cuéntanos sobre ti y tu estilo tribal. R: Siempre he sido un apasionado de los tatuajes. De pequeño me hacía dibujos con el boli y creciendo empecé a tatuarme, hasta que un día decidí emprender este camino como profesional. Después de unos poco años de aprendizaje, me crucé con el estilo Maorí y Polinésico. Me apasioné en seguida y desde entonces, hace casi 20 años, no he dejado de estudiarlo y practicarlo. M: Háblanos de esta tipología de tatuaje. Símbolos antiguos y ¿qué más? R: Hay mucho más que decir sobre esto. Cada persona que se acerca a este estilo busca una forma para expresar, a través de los símbolos, los conceptos de vida que quiere imprimir en su piel. Cada símbolo está conectado a un valor de la vida: coraje, amor propio, fuerza, resistencia, voluntad, firmeza, paz, libertad y un largo etcétera. A raíz de la exigencia de cada uno, se aplican más símbolos que crean el dibujo futuro. En fin, se puede decir que cada tatuaje es, ni más ni menos, la traducción energética de las necesidades de cada individuo. M: Tus tatuajes no se repiten nunca, algo diferente a lo usual. ¿Cómo creas un tatuaje? R: Para empezar, la persona toma cita conmigo y llega, con la historia que quiere sea traducida en tatuaje escrita. Hablo con ella y mientras pienso cómo traducir su petición en símbolos. tattoo es único y exclusivo porque cada individuo es un mundo diferente. Detesto las copias. M: Tattoos Maoríes, Polinésicos, culturas antiguas pero muy actuales, ¿cómo lo explicas? R: Estamos hablando de culturas milenarias, que antiguamente se practicaban en las tribus de las islas del Océano Pacífico, y los valores de aquella época se han mantenido inmutados hasta hoy. Se siguen practicando, desde luego. Cada símbolo representa un significado universal positivo. M: Has viajado mucho a lo largo de estos 20 años de actividad como tatuador. ¿Por dónde estuviste? R: Solo en los últimos 3 años he participado en más de 40 convenciones, entre Europa y Nueva Zelanda. He ido a Alemania, Inglaterra, Holanda, Hungría, Italia, España y Bélgica. A year ago, Simone, known by everybody as Randagio, opened a tattoo studio in Lajares, to settle in our island and to practise the profession he has been engaged to for over 20 years: the art of Tattoo.

Macaronesia: Why this name? Randagio: Randagio is how they often call me. Randagio means wanderer. That’s the way I feel, after many years travelling because of my job. M: A 300m2 studio, located in Lajares ... Tell us about yourself and your tribal style. R: I’ve always been passionate about tattoos. As a child I drew pictures in pen and as I grew up I started to tattoo my body, until one day I decided to devote to it as a professional. After a few years of learning, I met the Maori and Polynesia styles. I was deeply interested at once and since then, almost 20 years ago, I haven’t stopped studying and practising it. M: Tell us about this type of tattoo. Ancient symbols and what else? R: There is much more to say about this. Each person who approaches this style looks for a way to express themselves through symbols, concepts of life they want to print on their skin. Each symbol is connected to a value of life: courage, pride, strength, endurance, will, tenacity, peace, freedom and so on. Following the requirement of each person more symbols are applied, creating the future drawing. Broadly speaking, it can be said that each tattoo is no less than the energetic translation of the needs of each individual. M: Your tattoos are never repeated, something different from the usual. How do you create a tattoo? R:To begin with, the person makes an appointment with me and comes with the story they want to be translated into tattoo writing. I talk to them, and meanwhile I think about how to translate their request into symbols. First I

draw freehand and then I tattoo. Each tattoo is unique and exclusive as so is each individual. I hate copies. M: Maori and Polynesia tattoos, ancient cultures but very trendy, how do you explain this? R: We’re talking about ancient cultures, formerly practised in the tribes of the islands of the Pacific Ocean, and the values of that time have remained unchanged up to now. They are still practised, of course. Each symbol stands for a positive universal meaning. M: You’ve travelled extensively in these 20 years as a tattoo artist. Where have you been? R: Only in the last 3 years I have taken part in more than 40 conventions what with Europe and New Zealand. I’ve been to Germany, England, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Spain and Belgium. M: A FB page with more than 10,000 followers, a studio which is always packed, 5 star reviews and new ideas on the way, can you anticipate something about your future projects? R: I want to offer my customers more options and soon I will have other international tattooists in the studio. Muérdago blanco (Viscum album) Mistletoe (Viscum album)

En las épocas navideñas, es común encontrar en las casas decoraciones hechas con esta planta semiparasitaria; como coronas que adornan las puertas, centros de mesa… El Viscum album, conocido generalmente como muérdago blanco, liga, visco…, crece sobre las ramas de algunos árboles, casi siempre de hoja caduca como el manzano o el álamo, y a veces también sobre pinos, a unos 5 metros de altura. Pertenece a la familia de las santaláceas y desarrolla unas raíces capaces de absorber la savia del árbol al que hace de huésped. No es totalmente parasitaria porque sus hojas realizan la fotosíntesis. Sus frutos son unas bayas de pulpa blanquecina y pegajosa, que le dan su nombre científico, al ser una planta viscosa. A lo largo de los tiempos, esta planta ha sido considerada una planta mágica, rodeada de tradiciones culturales entorno a sus propiedades. Por ejemplo, los celtas realizaban sus rituales a los pies de árboles que tenían muérdago enrollado en sus ramas. Los griegos tenían relacionado el muérdago con la fertilidad y el amor, y hasta nuestros días ha llegado una tradición de su festividad de Saturnalia, que es el beso debajo del muérdago, para augurar buenos presagios en las relaciones y la descendencia. Por tanto, a pesar de que es una tradición que ha pasado a formar parte de la Navidad, era un rito totalmente pagano. Cabe destacar que su uso como planta ornamental en las fechas navideñas ha puesto a esta planta en peligro de extinción y hoy en día está prohibida su recolección. Para los escandinavos, el muérdago era un símbolo de paz, bajo esta planta se declaraban las treguas entre enemigos y las recon-

ciliaciones entre esposos. Desde tiempos antiguos ha sido considerada también como un remedio universal, por poseer varias propiedades: —Su principal uso es como planta hipotensora. —La viscotoxina, su sustancia activa, puede incluso destruir células, y es una buena activadora del sistema inmunitario, por lo que puede mejorar la vida de pacientes sometidos a quimioterapia y radioterapia. —Aumenta también los niveles de endorfinas. —Es una planta diurética. —Se emplea para aumentar el bienestar de las personas ancianas, mejorando su rendimiento cardíaco. —Alivia y previene la arteriosclerosis. —Se usa para tratar la epilepsia y los mareos, y para muchas otras afecciones. La parte de la planta que se emplea medicinalmente son las hojas y las ramas, secadas al aire, y suele consumirse en infusión con agua hirviendo. Las bayas son tóxica, por tanto la planta no debe consumirse sin procesar, ni sin el control de un profesional de la salud. Puede presentar contraindicaciones en pacientes con cardiopatías, enfermedades de hígado o riñón, hipotensos, que sufran tuberculosis, y tampoco está recomendado su uso en embarazadas, mujeres en periodo de lactancia, ni en niños. Como siempre, recomendamos informarse

adecuadamente antes de consumir cualquier planta, sobre todo las que tienen altos índices de toxicidad, y recordamos que muchos de los medicamentos convencionales también son perjudiciales, así que es importante estar siempre bien informados de lo que tomamos para mejorar nuestra salud.

At Christmas , it’s usual to find house decorations made with this semiparasitic plant, in the shape of crowns that adorn the doors, table centrepieces ... Viscum album, commonly known as white mistletoe, league, visco..., grows on the branches of some trees, mostly deciduous such as apple or poplar, and sometime on about 5-meter-high pines,. It belongs to the family of Santalaceae and develops roots that can absorb the sap of its host tree . It isn’t totally parasitic because its leaves perform photosynthesis. Its fruits are whitish and sticky berries , which gives it its scientific name, being a viscous plant. Over time, this plant has been considered a magical plant, surrounded by cultural traditions about its properties. For example, the Celts performed their rituals at the foot of trees that had mistletoe around its branches. The Greeks associated mistletoe with fertility and love, and a tradition of the festival of Saturnalia has arrived in our days, which is the kiss under the mistletoe, as a good omen for relationships and offspring. Therefore, although it is a tradition that has become

part of Christmas, it was a totally pagan rite. We must highlight that its use as an ornamental plant at Christmas has forced this plant into extinction and today it is forbidden to pick it up. For Scandinavia, mistletoe was a symbol of peace; under this plant the truce between enemies and reconciliations between spouses was declared. Since ancient times it has also been considered a universal remedy, possess ing several properties: —Its main use is as hypotensive plant. —The viscotoxin, its active substance , can even kill cells, activating the immune system, so it can improve the lives of patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy. —It also increases the levels of endorphins. —It is a diuretic plant. —It is used to improve the welfare of the elderly, improving cardiac performance. —It soothes and prevents atherosclerosis. —It is used to treat epilepsy and dizziness, and many other conditions. The part of the plant which is medicinally used are the leaves and branches, air dried, and they are usually consumed as tea with boiling water. The berries are toxic, therefore the plant should not be consumed raw or without the control of a health professional. It may have contraindications in patients with heart disease, kidney or liver diseases, hypotensive patients, those suffering from tuberculosis, and neither is it recommended for either pregnant or lactating women, or children. As always, we recommend to get adequately informed before taking any plant, especially those with high levels of toxicity, and remember that many conventional drugs are also harmful, so it’s important to always be well informed about what we take in order to improve our health.

En esta isla es mejor no ponerse enferma/o. En atención primaria están dando cita para 10 días o más, y si decides ir a urgencias, por no esperar tanto, tienes un tiempo de espera de unas 4 horas. Es vergonzoso que tengamos un servicio sanitario tan deficiente.

I Aniversario del Diferente Playa Bar

se han descartado los efectos adversos que la obra tendrá respecto al medio ambiente.

Se estrena «La Isla del Viento», de Manuel Menchón El pasado mes de noviembre, el Festival de Cine de Mar del Plata (Argentina), fue escenario del estreno de la película del cineasta malagueño, Manuel Menchón, «La Isla del Viento», (producción hispano-argentina), un retrato de la figura de Don Miguel de Unamuno, el escritor e intelectual vasco, en su exilio en la isla de Fuerteventura, a donde llegó por ofrecer expresa oposición al régimen del general Primo de Rivera, en los años 20. La película expone la faceta más emotiva del escritor, y cuenta cómo la isla transformó a Unamuno en otra persona. El estreno de esta película en España está previsto para el 2016.

El lunes 7 de diciembre, el Diferente Playa Bar de Puerto Lajas celebra su fiesta de primer aniversario, con un festival de música con vistas al mar. A partir de las 15h, habrá paella y pasta gratis para todos los asistentes, en un binomio gastro-cultural, que mezclará las tradiciones culinarias española e italiana. Y a continuación, se podrá disfrutar de la música en vivo de los grupos invitaos: Bocinegro Blues, Medina Macau, Sound from the past, La Familia Flotante y Mr. Pomo, con los que podréis disfrutar bailando hasta que el cuerpo aguante.

Adelante con las reformas del muelle del islote de Lobos Después de un largo proceso, la Secretaría de Estado de Medio Ambiente ha dado luz verde a las obras de acondicionamiento del muelle del islote de Lobos, lo que supondrá una mejora en las condiciones de seguridad de este muelle, que acoge unos 200 visitantes al día. En un futuro se estudia también la posibilidad de aumentar el tamaño del mismo. Será la Autoridad portuaria de las Palmas, la que gestione su licitación y adjudicación, y .20

Estas medidas ponen de manifiesto la importancia que tiene la energía eólica, en unas islas donde el viento sopla con bastante asiduidad, y donde se está haciendo una clara apuesta por las energía renovables.

Más sanciones para la pesca furtiva en Fuerteventura Fuerteventura se ve fuertemente atacada en sus fondos por la pesca furtiva que desarrollan, con nasas, barcos procedentes de otras islas. Por tanto, las cofradías de pescadores, junto con el Cabildo majorero y los Gobiernos de España y Canarias, han acordado una serie de medidas para detectar infracciones en estas prácticas de pesca, endureciendo a la vez las sanciones aplicadas.

Fuerteventura, telón de fondo en la nueva novela El nuevo año estrenará «Interitum Mundi», del la línea marítima entre Hipólito Sánchez Fuerteventura y Marruecos madrileño Los próximos 16 y 17 de diciembre, en Puerto

Después de posponerse varias veces la inauguración de la línea marítima que unirá la capital majorera con la localidad marroquí de Tarfaya, debido a retrasos en las obras del puerto de Marruecos, parece que a principios de 2016 esta línea comenzará a funcionar, suponiendo un universo de cooperación entre ambos lugares, en muchísimos aspectos, tal y como en la actualidad ocurre entre el norte de Marruecos y Andalucía.

Energía eólica fundamental para el archipiélago canario El Consejo de Gobierno de Canarias declaró, el pasado mes de noviembre, 18 parques eólicos de las islas como de interés estratégico para Canarias, debido a su importancia en el desarrollo económico y social de las islas. Esta consideración acelerará a la mitad los procesos administrativos para la puesta en marcha de los mismos, de los cuales 11 se situarán en Gran Canaria, 5 en Fuerteventura y 2 en Tenerife.

Cooperación de consumo energético entre Lanzarote y Fuerteventura Las dos islas orientales han realizado acuerdos para iniciar un camino hacia un modelo energético común, proponiéndose cooperativas de consumo a través de la apertura de parques públicos de autoconsumo energético, donde se abra este ámbito a la par-

ticipación ciudadana. Los Cabildos de ambas islas han acordado poner en marcha el eje oriental LanzaroteFuerteventura, que pretende sumar estrategias de estas dos islas que tienen muchos puntos en común. Como punto principal, se propone la construcción de un modelo energético común, que tenga en cuenta la clasificación de estas islas como Reservas de la Biosfera, dejando de lado el petróleo, en la medida de lo posible.

Y por las tardes, los dos días, música en vivo con la puesta de sol. I Aniversay of Diferente Playa Bar

Wind power, key to the Canary Islands

On Monday December 7th , Diferente Playa Bar in Puerto Lajas celebrates its first anniversary with a music festival with sea views. From 15h, there will be free pasta and paella for all attendees, in a gastro-cultural event that will mix the Spanish and Italian culinary traditions. And then you can enjoy the live music by some invited groups: Bocinegro Blues, Medina Macau, Sound from the past, La Familia Flotante and Mr. Pomo, with whom you can enjoy dancing till you drop.

The Canary Islands Government Council declared, last November, 18 wind farms of strategic interest to the Canary Islands, due to their importance in the economic and social development of the islands. This consideration will accelerate the administrative processes for their implemen tation, 11 out of which will be located in Gran Canaria, 5, in Fuerteventura and 2, in Tenerife. These measures underline the importance of wind power on islands where the wind blows quite frequently, and where clear commitment to renewable energy is being undertaken.

First release of «La Isla del Viento» by Manuel Menchón Last November, the Cinema Festival at Mar del Plata (Argentina), was the scene of the first release of the movie by the Malaga filmmaker Manuel Menchón, «La Isla del Viento» (Spain-Argentina production), a portrait of the figure of Don Miguel de Unamuno, the intellectual Basque writer in exile on the island of Fuerteventura, where he arrived due to his having expressed opposition to the general Primo de Rivera regime in the 20’s. The film exposes the most emotional side of the writer, and shows how the island changed Unamuno into someone else. The first release of this film in Spain is planned for 2016.

Ahead with reforms in Lobos Island dock After a long process, the Ministry of Environment has given the green light to the refurbishment of the dock at Lobos Island, leading to an improvement in safety conditions at a dock which receives about 200 visitors a day. The possibility of increasing its size in the future is also being considered. It ‘ll be the Port Authority of Las Palmas that will manage its bidding and awarding, and adverse effects for the environment have been ruled out.

The new year will open the maritime route between Fuerteventura and Morocco After having been repeatedly put off the opening of the sea route linking the capital of Fuerteventura with the Moroccan town of Tarfaya, due to delays in the construction of the port in Morocco, it seems that it will finally begin operating in early 2016, which will mean extreme cooperation between both places, in many respects, as it currently occurs between northern Morocco and Andalusia.

More penalties for poaching in Fuerteventura Fuerteventura is being strongly attacked by poaching, carried out with creels by boats from other islands. Therefore, fishermen’s associations, together with Fuerteventura island council and the governments of Spain and the Canary Islands have agreed to a series of measures to detect violations in these fishing practices, while tightening sanctions.

Energy consumption cooperation between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura The two eastern islands have made arrangements to start a path toward a common energy model, suggesting consumer cooperatives through the opening of public parks of energy consumption, open to public participation. The Councils of both islands have agreed to launch the eastern axis LanzaroteFuerteventura, which aims to include strategies of these two islands which have so much in common. As main point, the building of common energy models is suggested, taking into account the classification of both islands as Biosphere Reserves, leaving oil aside as far as possible.

Nicola y yo misma, Sarah. Somos de Italia pero yo soy medio suiza. Nicola, que es muy extrovertido y sociable, dirige el bar y yo me cuido de la cocina, que ha sido una de mis pasiones desde niña. ¿Desde cuándo os dedicáis al mundo de la hostelería? Es una experiencia bastante nueva para los dos: Nicola pasó los últimos 20 años vendiendo coches en Italia, y yo dirigía un estudio de danza, enseñando y actuando. Los dos teníamos algo de experiencia en el mundo de la hostelería pero no era nuestro trabajo principal. Soy vegana desde hace mucho tiempo y siempre me han interesado la comida, las dietas saludables y la cocina sin crueldad. Tengo un fuerte pasado italiano que siempre influye en mi gusto, pero también he viajado mucho en mi vida y me encanta la cocina internacional. ¿Qué podemos encontrar en H2O? Empezamos en la mañana con un desayuno y una selección de pastas caseras, ensaladas de fruta y varias leches vegetales. En nuestro menú tenemos bocadillos, hamburguesas vegetarianas, ensaladas gourmet, aperitivos caseros, como bruschettas o humus. También somos un bar de zumos y ofrecemos frescos zumos caseros y batidos hechos con las mejores frutas y verduras locales, que nuestros clientes pueden enriquecer como gusten, con una selección de comida energética y leches vegetales. En nuestro menú de bebidas nuestros clientes pueden encontrar los cócteles más solicitados, una selección de cervezas, licores y un pequeño listado de vinos que incluye vinos italianos y locales, perfectos para acompañar nuestros platos o como aperitivo. What is H20? H2O is a 100% Vegetarian Bar Cafeteria. The concept of the bar is to offer tasty and satisfying experience to our guest, whether vegan, vegetarian or omnivore. We have a very nice outdoor terrace with tables and chairs and comfy sofas to enjoy the wonderful Fuerteventura weather in the quiet plaza Patricio Calero and an indoor room too, for windy days. We offer free wifi for all our clients and they can also join our indoor room, plug their devices and spend a couple of hours working or chatting on-line while they enjoy our food or drinks. Who manages it? Nicola and myself. We are both from Italy but I’m half Swiss (Sarah). Nicola, who is a very outgoing and friendly person, is running the bar and I’m taking care of the kitchen, which has always been a big passion of mine since I was a kid. How long have you been devoted to the hotel and catering world? This a pretty new experience for both of us: Nicola spent the last 20 years selling cars in Italy and I was running a dance studio, teaching and performing. We both had a bit of experience in the catering world but it was not our main job. I’ve been a vegan for a long time and I’ve always been very interested in food, healthy diets and cruelty free cuisine. I have a strong Italian background that always influences my taste but I have travelled a lot in my life too and I love international cuisine. What can we find in H2O? We start in the morning with breakfast and a choice of homemade pastries, fruit salads and a great Italian coffee served with various vegetable milks. In our menu we have sandwiches, veggie burgers, gourmet salads, homemade snacks like bruschetta or hummus and more. We are also a juices bar and we offer fresh homemade juices and smoothies made with the best local fruits and veggies, which our clients can enrich as they like with a selection of power food and vegetable milks In our drinks menu clients can find all the most popular cocktails, a selection of beers, liquors and a small wine list which includes both local and Italian wines perfect to match one of our dishes or as an aperitif too One more reason to enjoy our terrace is the shisha bar, where our clients can enjoy a relaxing narghilè while having a beer or a glass of prosecco.

Pero el espectáculo más esperado nos lo dará la lluvia de estrellas de las Gemínidas, cuyo máximo está previsto para la noche del 14, cuando esperamos ver hasta unas 120 estrellas fugaces por hora.
