LOS VECINOS DEL NORTE SE VUELCAN CON LA

ACTITUD AMBIENTAL La campaña #LaOlivaActitudAmbiental, una iniciativa promovida por el Ayuntamiento de La Oliva desde la Concejalía de Medio Ambiente, conciencia a la población del municipio norteño en valores medioambientales y en el respeto por el entorno natural. PROMETO Y COMPROMETO Como punto de partida de la campaña, una serie de “Protectores de la Naturaleza”, personas y colectivos del municipio seleccionados por su Actitud Ambiental y su influencia, han sido los encargados de encender la mecha en las redes sociales. A través de un vídeo donde muestran su actitud ambiental, bajo el eslogan “Prometo y Comprometo”, cada uno de ellos promete tener una actitud consciente de respeto del medio y comprometen a otra persona o empresa a que se sume a la campaña, haciendo que se viralice en las redes sociales y llegue a todos los rincones del municipio. Los primeros protagonistas que se han prestado de forma altruista, movidos por el interés en aportar su grano de arena para hacer del entorno y del mundo un lugar más sostenible, han sido: Luz Marina Rodríguez Luzma, conocida vecina del pueblo de El Cotillo y presidenta de la asociación Cotillo Joven; Julia Castro, kitesurfer profesional; Erika Castilla, diseñadora y propietaria de la tienda Mojo Art Shop de Corralejo; Lazi Ruedegger, local de Lajares, surfero y músico; Marcos Gutiérrez, famoso chef de Casa Marcos; Salomon Moore, conocido dj y buguero; la murga de Corralejo Las Sargoriás; Alina Kunz, presidenta de la Asociación Limpiaventura y Delfino acompañado de otros apreciados músicos del municipio. A partir de ahí, todo ha quedado en manos de la población y de sus ganas de mostrar el lado más comprometido y respetuoso con el medio ambiente. Muchos comercios y empresas del norte de la isla han querido subirse al carro mostrando en las redes sociales su actitud ambiental, como Lapa Studio, SpaZensation del Playa Park Club, la tienda de decoración Mouja, Restaurante Marealta en El Cotillo, escuela Parasalud de Lajares, Aloha Surf Academy, Consultorio Veterinario Lajares, Restaurante El Callao, Elena Azcue, Mojo de María, la Peña de la Amistad Femenino, Sicre Store, Pulaumi, Aguaprint… Desde aquí en Macaronesia, como no podía .4

ser de otra forma, también nos sumamos a participar en una campaña tan bonita y educativa. Por parte de los vecinos que hasta ahora se han sumado a la iniciativa, hemos visto en las redes sociales tips de todo tipo, desde un vídeo de una vecina montando en bicicleta hasta un equipo de fútbol que promete recoger y donar los tapones de las botellas. No utilizar plásticos desechables, reutilizar, separar adecuadamente los desechos, escachar las botellas y garrafas antes de depositarlas en el contenedor, consumir productos kilómetro cero, recoger colillas de la costa, no llevarte los rodolitos de la playa, educar a los alumnos en valores medioambientales, respetar los horarios de

recogida de basura, utilizar el coche lo menos posible, usar el Punto Limpio para los desperdicios especiales,… son algunos de los consejos medioambientales que circulan por las redes bajo el hashtag #LaOlivaActitudAmbiental. Pero esto no acaba aquí, el objetivo es que la campaña siga extendiéndose en el tiempo y el espacio y los vecinos se sigan sumando para, entre todos, hacer de La Oliva y del mundo un lugar mejor. Responsables municipales, comercios, vecinos, visitantes… el empeño pasa por instaurar la Actitud Ambiental en cada rincón y cada persona pues, para presumir de entorno, la implicación de todos es esencial.

THE NEIGHBOURS OF THE NORTH IMMERSED THEMSELVES IN AN ENVIRONMENTAL ATTITUDE The campaign #LaOlivaActitudAmbiental, an initiative promoted by the townhall in La Oliva from the department of environment council, makes the population of this municipality in the north aware of the respect for the natural environment.

I PROMISE AND GET INVOLVED As a starting point of this campaign, a series of “nature protectors”, people and collectives from the village selected for their environmentally friendly attitude and their influence, have been in charge of spreading it in the social networks. Through a video where they show this attitude, under the slogan “I promise and get involved” everyone of them promises to be aware of the respect for the environment and involves other people or firms to join the campaign, making it viralize the web and reach all the corners of the municipality. Thereafter, everything has been placed in the hands of the population and their wish to show their most committed and respectful side towards environment. a video of a neighbour on a bike and going on with a football team promising to collect and give bottle stoppers: Not to use disposable plastic containers; reuse; to separate the waste properly; flattening plastic bottles and containers before throwing them away; consuming zero-kilometre products; pick up fag-ends from the beach, not the seaweed; to educate students in environmental values; respecting the hours of waste collection; using the car as little as possible; using the waste facilities for special waste,… are some of the environmental tips running in the web under the hashtag #LaOlivaActitudAmbiental. But this doesn’t end here, the aim is that the campaign keeps spreading in time and space, and neighbours keep joining it to make La Oliva and the world a better place. Municipal authorities, businesses, neighbours, visitors… we must establish environmentally friendly attitude in every corner and person, as to boast of environment the involvement of all of us is essential.

“SIEMPRE ME HA GUSTADO SUPERARME COGIENDO OLAS Y COMPETIR ES UNA DE LAS MEJORES MANERAS PARA HACERLO” El nombre Aitor Ojeda forma parte de un grupo de deportistas majoreros que no paran de recibir premios y de dar a conocer Fuerteventura en todo el mundo. Aitor acaba de quedar segundo en la categoría Bodyboard del Quemao Class, celebrado en La Santa, en Lanzarote. Fue el único canario en la final. Por Eloy Vera ¿Cómo fueron tus inicios en los deportes náuticos y cómo llegas al bodyboard? Un día con siete u ocho años estaba con mi padre en el muelle de Puerto y vi a otros niños navegando en la escuela de vela y le dije a mi padre que quería empezar a navegar. Ese verano me apuntó al cursillo de verano de optimist y fue en ese momento donde entré en contacto con los deportes náuticos. Después de tres o cuatro años compitiendo en Canarias, ocurrió exactamente lo mismo, pero con el cursillo de verano de bodyboard en Playa Blanca. Vi a un grupo de niños cogiendo olas y le dije a mi madre que quería aprender a coger olas. Ese mismo verano comencé el cursillo y desde entonces no he dejado de coger olas. ¿Qué papel ha jugado el optimist en tu vida deportiva? Fue una época muy bonita donde conocí mi lado más competitivo y donde pude ver que los deportes indivi.6

duales eran lo que más me gustaba. Fue una pena no poder seguir desarrollándome en la vela por falta de apoyo. ¿Cuándo empezaste a competir a nivel profesional y qué ha supuesto para ti? Siempre me ha gustado superarme cogiendo olas y competir es una de las mejores maneras para hacerlo. Tienes que tener en cuenta muchísimas cosas para que todo encaje y poder llegar a una final. Cuando tenía 16 años fui a competir a mi primer europeo en Portugal y con 18 estaba corriendo el tour europeo y mundial por Europa y Hawaii. En ese momento, no era lo suficiente maduro para poder conseguir buenos resultados. Pensaba que solamente necesitaba tener técnica para coger olas y ya. Pero hace falta mucho más. Sobre todo estar preparado a nivel mental y tener la capacidad de análisis que tengo ahora. Todo eso me ha servido de aprendizaje para saber auto analizarme. ¿Qué papel ha jugado Fuerteventura y su mar en tu carrera deportiva? Fuerteventura ha jugado un papel muy importante. Estar rodeado de mar y practicar un deporte relacionado con el mar ha sido clave. En la isla en ese momento o jugabas al fútbol o casi no existía otro deporte. Las condiciones que tiene Fuerteventura para coger olas son increíbles durante todo el año. Algo que sí he echado en falta es una escuela donde nos enseñaran la parte técnica de este deporte. Eso habría servido para me-

jorar mucho más rápido y crear una cantera grande. Por suerte, mi amigo Ruymán Rey, un profesional de este deporte, acaba de crear su propia escuela de bodyboard profesional y de surf de iniciación, “Pura Vida FTV”. Esto hará que este deporte crezca mucho en la isla y salgan muchos riders con gran nivel. ¿Cómo ha sido tu trayectoria y qué reconocimientos has tenido? Lo que siempre me ha motivado a practicar este deporte ha sido el puro placer y diversión. Vivir de él es muy difícil y la falta de apoyo hace que tengas que costearte tú mismo los viajes. Por eso, siempre he tenido claro que lo hago porque me gusta y me apasiona. Cuando era Junior, con 17 años, quedé subcampeón de Canarias y de España. Luego en Open gané una de las pruebas más prestigiosas de olas gigantes en el Frontón el “Furtive Challenger”. La primera vez que corrí el tour mundial pude hacer la mitad de las pruebas y finalicé en el puesto 33. Los últimos tres años he conseguido llegar hasta los cuartos de final en la prueba del mundial del Frontón King, ahora mismo la prueba más importante de todo el tour mundial. Y justamente el fin de semana pasado quedé segundo en el campeonato del Quemao Class. ¿Qué ha supuesto quedar segundo en La Santa? Casi podría decir que ha sido el mejor resultado de toda mi carrera deportiva. Es una prueba que no puntúa para ningún circuito, pero tiene una importante repercusión

“I’ve always liked to get better at catching waves and competing is one of the best ways to achieve it” By Eloy Vera The name Aitor Ojeda takes part of a group of athletes from the island who don’t stop getting prizes and making Fuerteventura well known worldwide. Aitor has just achieved the second position of Bodyboard in the Quemao Class, which took place in La Santa, Lanzarote. He was the only Canary Island athlete in the final. How was your start off in water sports and how did you get to bodyboard? One day, when I was seven or eight, I was with my father in the quay of the port and I saw other children sailing with the sailing school and I told my father I wanted to start sailing. That Summer he enrolled me in a Summer course in Optimist and that’s when I first made contact with water sports. After three or four years competing in the Canary Islands, the same happened with Bodyboard in Playa Blanca. I saw a group of children catching waves and I told my mother I wanted to learn it. That very Summer I started a course and since then I haven’t stopped catching waves.

a nivel mundial. El Quemao Class es una competición muy exigente donde el nivel de los competidores es altísimo y la calidad de la ola es de las mejores del mundo. Aparte de todo eso, contar con todo el apoyo de mis amigos ha sido increíble. Durante todo el evento, estuvieron manga tras manga apoyándome desde la orilla y eso me daba mucha más energía y motivación. Supongo, que la falta de sponsor está también condicionando poder competir en otras pruebas ¿Cómo está el tema? Está bastante complicado. El problema es que la gente ve el bodyboard como el hermano pequeño del surf o el paso de iniciación para luego coger olas con tabla. No tiene .8

nada que ver. Son deportes que parecen lo mismo, pero no tienen nada que ver el uno con el otro. Lo único igual es que coges una ola y listo. Ni la manera de surfear la ola ni las maniobras son iguales. También la falta de profesionalidad de las federaciones y organizadores del tour mundial está haciendo que el deporte no crezca y eso dificulta la posibilidad de conseguir un buen patrocinador que te dé apoyo económico para poder costear los viajes. ¿Cree que realmente se apuesta lo suficiente en Fuerteventura por los deportes náuticos como un atractivo turístico? Creo que no. Fuerteventura tiene un potencial muy grande para los deportes náuticos como la vela, el surf,

What role has Optimist played in your sports life? There were very nice times when I met my most competitive side and I could realise that individual sports were what I liked most. A pity I couldn’t keep developing in sailing due to the lack or sponsors. When did you start competing as a professional and what has that meant to you? I’ve always liked getting better at catching waves and competing is one of the best ways to do it. You must bear lots of things in mind so everything goes alright and you can get to the final. When I was 16 I went to Portugal to compete in my first European championship, and at 18 I was taking part in the European tour and World championship for Europe and Hawaii. Then I wasn’t yet mature enough to get good results. I thought

el windsurf, el Bodyboard... Tienen practicantes con un altísimo nivel y como en el caso del bodyboard de los mejores del mundo, pero no hay nada para la cantera, para crear base en estos deportes. El Club Mar Azul, en Corralejo, que lleva tiempo trabajando en este sentido, y ahora Ruymán Rey con su escuela “Pura Vida FTV”, creo que podrán cambiar todo esto. ¿Por qué decides convertirte también en entrenador personal? No lo decidí hasta el último año de carrera. Era algo que me gustaba y terminando la carrera decidí enfocarme en ese campo. El entrenamiento personal hacía que pudiera comenzar a cambiar la vida de las personas ayudándolas a mejorar su salud y su calidad de vida. Explícame en qué consiste tu proyecto relacionado con la nutrición. Más que con la nutrición tiene que ver con el cambio de hábitos donde también se incluye la alimentación. Es un programa online de pérdida de grasa en el que a través del entrenamiento y la alimentación consigo .10

que las personas cambien su físico por fuera y por dentro. Consigo que cambien sus hábitos de entrenamiento y alimentación y no tengan que hacer dieta nunca más. ¿Qué hay que hacer para, desde la alimentación, luchar contra la crisis climática? Creo que primero tiene que haber un cambio desde arriba. Y con eso me refiero a los gobiernos y a las multinacionales, que son los que fabrican y contaminan a gran escala. De nada sirve que yo use una botella que no es de plástico si luego para rellenarla tengo que comprar una garrafa de plástico. El ciudadano puede ejercer presión para que ellos hagan los cambios, pero si desde arriba no se modifican este tipo de envases y se preocupan por contaminar menos poco podremos hacer. Otro ejemplo sería el de reciclar. ¿De qué sirve que yo en mi casa tire la basura al contenedor que corresponde si luego todo o casi todo va al mismo sitio? Por eso digo que el cambio tiene que venir desde arriba. ¡Pero el cambio de verdad!

I just needed technique to catch waves and that was all, but you need a lot more, most of all being mentally prepared and having the analytical skills I have now. All that has served as a learning to know how to do self-analysis. What role has Fuerteventura and its sea played in your sports career? Fuerteventura has played a very important role. Being surrounded by the sea and practising a sport related to the sea have been key. By then a sport other than football was almost inexistent in the island. The conditions Fuerteventura enjoys when it comes to catching waves are incredible the whole year through. Something I’ve missed It’s been a school where they taught us the technical part of this sport. That would have been useful to improve much more quickly and create a big team. Luckily my friend Ruymán Rey, a professional of this sport, has just set up his own school of professional bodyboard and introduction to surf: “Pura Vida FTV”. This will make this sport grow a lot in the island and many great riders too. What has your career path been like and what awards have you got? It’s been just pure pleasure and enjoyment that have always motivated me to practise this sport. Making a living out of it

is really difficult and the lack of sponsors makes you pay for all the trips. This is why I’ve always been confident that I do it because I like and I’m very keen on it. When I was a Junior, 17, I got the runner-up position in The Canary Islands and in Spain. Then, in Open, I succeeded in one of the most prestigious events of giant waves in El Frontón, the “Furtive Challenger”. The first time I took part in the world tour I could participate in half the tests and I ended up in the 33rd position. The last three years I managed to get to the quarter-finals in Fronton King, the most important test nowadays in the world tour. And it was just the last weekend that I got the second position in the Quemao Class Championship. What has getting the second position in La Santa meant to you? I could almost say that it’s been the best result in my whole sports career. This test doesn’t mean any scores for any circuits,

but it has an important repercussion worldwide. Quemao Class is a very commanding competition where the level of the participants is really high and the quality of the waves is one of the best ones in the world. Apart from this, having the support of my friends has been incredible. During the whole event they were unfailingly encouraging me from the shore and this gave me even more energy and motivation. I suppose the lack of sponsors has prevented you from competing in other tests, how is this matter? It’s quite complicated. The thing is people consider Bodyboard and the young brother of surf or the initiation to catch waves on a board later on. It has nothing to do. They are sports that seem to be the same but are completely different. Also, the lack of professionalism of federations and organizers of the world tour is preventing this sport from growing and this makes it difficult

to get a good sponsor that gives you financial support to be able to pay for the trips. Do you really believe they’re doing enough for water sports as a tourist attraction in Fuerteventura? I don’t think so. Fuerteventura has a strong potential for water sports like sailing, surf, windsurf, bodyboard…. They have top-level athletes and in the case of Bodyboard, one of the best in the world, but there’s nothing for the team to provide a basis for these sports. Mar Azul club, in Corralejo, has been long working along this line, and now I think Ruymán Rey, with his school “Pura Vida FTV” is going to change all this. Why did you also decide becoming a personal trainer? I didn’t decide it until the last year in my degree. It was something I liked and when I was finishing it, I decided to focus on this field. Personal training made it possible for me to start changing people’s lives, helping them to improve their health and life standards. Tell me what your project related to nutrition consists of. Rather than nutrition it has to do with a change of habits where food is also included. It’s an online programme of fat loss where I get people to change their physical aspect, inside and outside, through training and food. I get them to change training and food habits so they don’t need to go on a diet anymore. What must we do, regarding nutrition, to fight the weather crisis? I think the first thing that must take place is a change from the top. That means governments and multinationals, which are the ones that manufacture and cause large-scale pollution. There’s no point in using a bottle which isn’t made of plastic if to refill it we must buy a plastic container. We as citizens can push so the rest of us make changes, but if they don’t modify this kind of containers from the top and don’t concern about polluting less there’s little we can do. Another example is recycling. What’s the use of me throwing the waste to the right container if then everything, or almost everything, goes to the same place? That’s why I’m saying the change must come from the top, but a true change!!!

“El fotoperiodismo en la fotografía de bodas me ha ayudado a saber dónde está la noticia” Por Eloy Vera Mile Vidic llegó al mundo de la fotografía de bodas en un momento en el que la crisis en los medios de comunicación empezaba a sacudir a los profesionales y les obligaba a buscar alternativas. Sin renunciar al fotoperiodismo y a contar historias, comenzó de lleno en el mundo de la fotografía de bodas hace unos cuatro años. Sus fotos se han colado en las mejores webs especializadas de toda España. Hoy son muchas las parejas de Fuerteventura que sólo quieren a Mile para retratar el sí quiero. .14

¿Cómo se logra posicionarte en el Top 20 de los fotógrafos de boda de España? Esto de los concursos empezó hace un par de años por motivación, porque valoraran mi trabajo y, por supuesto, con la intención de aprender y superarse. Yo recuerdo que lo hacía también para corregir errores. Al final, se trataba de hacer, simplemente, una mejor fotografía. Los fotógrafos que hay ahí son muy buenos y tienen una gran experiencia en la fotografía de boda y lo que quería era aprender. Al principio, no pensaba que iba a llegar al puesto que estoy hoy. En España hay muchos directorios de boda. Yo intento

estar en los más exigentes. En España estoy en dos, uno en el puesto 16, en Fotógrafos de Boda de España, y el 22 en Ciencia en blanco, fotografía cien por cien documental. ¿Por qué decide especializarse en fotógrafo de boda? El mercado estaba complicado en los medios de comunicación y uno se tiene que buscar las castañas. También hacía vídeos de bodas y luego empecé a hacer fotografías de bodas. Parece que gustaron, seguí haciendo más fotos de bodas y empecé a interesarme por el nuevo estilo fotográfico. Estamos acostumbrados a los fotógrafos de antes con mucho postureo, una foto-

grafía antigua y clásica, pero esto ahora ha cambiado, es documentalismo de boda. Hubo un tiempo en el que el fotógrafo de boda estaba mal visto por el propio sector… Exacto. Dentro del sector estábamos un poco mal vistos. Parece que como eres fotógrafo de bodas no puedes ser fotógrafo de otra cosa. Creo que ha cambiado la cosa, incluso artísticamente se habla más. Tengo la impresión de que mi trabajo se aprecia y se tiene respeto. Antes se tenía que hacer lo que quería el cliente, ahora hay un alto porcentaje de lo que quiere el cliente, pero ha subido el porcentaje de fotografías que yo quiero hacer y eso los clientes lo aprecian y buscan tu estilo. Eso suma y mucho. ¿Qué es lo más raro que te ha pedido una pareja? Hemos hecho locurillas como subir al pico de la Zarza, al elefante de Las Peñitas, una zona muy complicada. Allí hay una roca enorme donde he sacado fotos preciosas que han sido premiadas. El intrusismo tampoco se escapa de la profesión… Somos uno de los pocos gremios donde hay un profesional por cada diez intrusos. Hay cantidad de fotógrafos ilegales que no pagan impuestos. Siempre he tirado por dignificar este gremio y eso empieza no sólo por el intrusismo, que es bestial, sino por nosotros que bajamos mucho los precios. ¿Cómo le ha ayudado el fotoperiodismo en la fotografía de bodas? Ha sido una gran ventaja porque te ayuda a saber mirar dónde está la noticia. Cuando se hace una rueda de prensa o vas a una patera no es sólo llegar y hacer fotos a lo loco, sino que hay que saber dónde mirar y es justo donde está pasando la acción. Llevo toda la vida haciendo fotoperiodismo, vídeo… eso se traslada al mundo de las bodas y lo que haces es buscar esas pequeñas noticias dentro de la boda.

“Photojournalism in wedding photographs has helped me to know where the news is” By Eloy Vera Mile Vidic got to the world of wedding photography when the crisis started to shake its professionals and forced them to look for alternatives. Without renouncing to photojournalism and telling stories, he plunged into the world of wedding photography some four years ago. His pictures have appeared in the best specialized webs in the whole of Spain. They are many the couples in Fuerteventura that only want Mile to take a photograph of their “I do” nowadays. How did you manage to attain a position among the top 20 photographers in Spain? Contests began a couple of years ago out of motivation, so my work could be appreciated and, of course, with the intention of learning and improving. I remember I also did it to correct mistakes. In the end, it was all about just making a better photography. The photographers you meet there are very good and have a great experience in wedding photography, and all I wanted was to learn. At the beginning I couldn’t think I would reach the position I have nowadays. There’re many wedding directories. I try to be among the most commanding ones. I take part in two of them in Spain: in “Fotógrafos de boda en España” I’m in the 16th position, and in “Ciencia en blanco”, 100% documentary photography, in the 22nd position.

¿Qué momentos son importantes para componer el relato de todo lo que pasa ese día? La diferencia está entre un buen fotógrafo, que va a hacer la historia de ese día, y el típico que va a hacer fotos. Le suelo pedir a las parejas que me manden las cinco mejores fotos del reportaje, las que más le gustan y casi siempre están los abrazos a una madre, un padre…no te ponen los anillos, el beso o el lanzamiento del ramo. Esas cosas típicas no las ponen. El paisaje de Fuerteventura es un aliado importante en tus fotografías… Por supuesto. Una de las cosas a la que doy más importancia es a la postboda. Trabajo mucho el documentalismo el día de la boda. Después está el día de la post-

boda y ahí es donde entra Fuerteventura, las dunas, las playas, Las Peñitas… Sitios representativos de la isla, que a veces pasamos por alto y no nos damos del espectáculo que tenemos. Han sido un plus a la hora de hacer cualquier tipo de fotografía de paisaje, siempre buscando entre la naturalidad de la pareja, haciéndola reír e intentando que interactúe y, a la vez, mezclándola con el paisaje de Fuerteventura sin que suponga que ellos pierdan importancia dentro de la foto. ¿En qué proyectos trabajas ahora? Estoy dándole vueltas a cosas personales, proyectos relacionados con la fotografía social y el retrato a la gente de Fuerteventura. Sigo intentando aprender y estoy al cien por cien con el estudio que tengo en Gran Tarajal.

Why did you decide to specialise in wedding photography? The niche of market in the media was difficult and one has to make a living. I also used to make wedding videos and then I started to take wedding pictures, which seemed to succeed. I kept on making more of them and I started to become interested, most of all, in the new photography style. We are used to the traditional photographer who worked with a lot of posing, antique and classical photography, but this has changed now, this is documentary wedding photography. There was a time when the wedding photographer was badly considered by the sector itself… Exactly. We were a bit frowned on in our sector. It seems that as you are a wedding photographer you can’t do another thing. I think this has changed and it’s now being considered as art. I feel that my work is being appreciated and respected. Before we had to do what the customers wanted. Now there is a high percentage of what the customer wants but a great percentage of photography that I want to make, and customers appreciate it and they look for your style. This is extremely important! What’s been the strangest thing you’ve been asked to do by a couple? We’ve done crazy things like climbing the Zarza, the elephant in Las Peñitas, a very complicated area. There you find a huge rock where I’ve taken valuable pictures that have been awarded. Intrusion doesn’t escape this profession either, does it? We make up a trade where there’s a professional for every ten intruders. There’re plenty of illegal photographers who don’t

pay taxes. I’ve always tried to dignify this trade and this is hard to do not just because the illegal practice is brutal but also because we have to lower our prices a lot. How has photojournalism helped you with wedding photography? It’s been an advantage as it helps you to know where the news is. When a press conference takes place, or you go to a dinghy, you don’t just go there and start taking pictures aimlessly. I’ve been devoted to photojournalism, video… all my life. This can be transferred to the world of weddings, and what you do is to look for the little news in the wedding. What are the most important moments to narrate the story of that which happens that day? The difference lies between a good photographer, who will tell the story of what happens that day, and the typical photographer who is there just to take photos. I usually ask the couples to send me the five best pictures of their report, the ones they like best, and you almost always find the hugs by the

mother or father…. Not the rings, the kiss or the launching of the bouquet. These typical things aren’t there. The Landscape in Fuerteventura is an important ally in your photography… Of course. One of the most important moments for me is the day after the wedding. I work documentary on the wedding day, but it’s the day after the wedding that Fuerteventura plays an important role: the dunes, the beaches, La Peñitas… representative places in the island we drive past very often without taking notice of the show we have in front of our eyes. It’s been complementary when it’s come to take any kind of landscape photography. I’ve always gone for the couple’s naturality, making them laugh and interact and, at the same time, mixing them with Fuerteventura’s landscape without making them seem less relevant inside the picture. In which projects are you working now? My mind is busy with personal matters, projects related to social photography and stories of people in Fuerteventura. I keep trying to learn and I’m 100% in the studio I have in Gran Tarajal.

L. R. Knost escribió: “No te quedes consternado por lo roto del mundo. Todo se puede romper y todo se puede arreglar. Pero no con el tiempo, como muchos creen, sino con la intención. Así que ve y ama intencionadamente, de forma extravagante, incondicional. Este mundo roto espera en la oscuridad por la luz que eres tú.”

en mi mente hasta el día de hoy. Sin embargo, en La Isla, el tiempo aparece como la salvación y hoy justamente antes de escribir este artículo he decidido cambiar el final y su enfoque.

No podría estar más de acuerdo con Knost. Y es justamente por ello que la capacidad de recuperación ante una misma situación varía dependiendo de quien la esté viviendo. Y como no, tal y como hemos recalcado en ediciones anteriores, del significado que le demos a esa situación.

Por supuesto que el tiempo es necesario, ya que nos da nuevas perspectivas y suaviza el efecto de ese dolor, pero el tiempo sin intención puede propiciar a una larga estancia en ese lugar que en vez de sumar, nos resta.

El tiempo, tal y como yo lo veo, es flexible… porque a veces, media hora parece durar un minuto, y otras veces, 30 minutos pueden convertirse en la agonía de una larga espera. ¿A que tú también lo has vivido así? Hace unas pocas semanas, terminé de escribir una historia que se llama La Isla. Esta historia no es totalmente mía, ya que cuando era adolescente, mi amigo Ahmed, que trabajaba en la cámara de comercio para quienes yo solía traducir, me la contó. El cuento apenas duró 2 minutos, pero esos dos minutos se quedaron grabados .22

No importa cuánto tiempo pase, si decidimos vivir anclados al dolor y el sufrimiento, así será para toda la vida, y si decidimos normalizar y seguir adelante creando mejores emociones y asociaciones mentales ante lo que la vida nos depara, también será así. Por lo que hemos de entender que el dolor es el paso por un lugar o una situación no deseada; el sufrimiento, sin embargo, es quedarse en ese lugar indeseado a vivir. El duelo es el transporte que nos saca de ese sufrimiento y que nos permite superar ese dolor.

And of course, just like we stressed in previous issues, it also depends on the meaning we assign to the situation. For me, time is flexible… because sometimes half an hour seems to last a minute, and sometimes 30 minutes can turn into the agony of a long wait. You experienced that, too. Don’t you? A few weeks ago, I wrote a story called “La Isla” (the island). It is not completely mine, since I heard it from somebody when I was a teenager. It was Ahmed, my friend who worked in the chamber of commerce where I used to work as a translator, who told me about that. His story was only two minutes long, but those two minutes got imprinted on my mind till today. However, in La Isla, time seems to be the only salvation and today, right before starting my article, I decided to change the end and its focus. It doesn’t matter how much time has passed, if we decide to be anchored to sorrow and suffering, it will always be like this. But if we decide to normalize that and go on creating better emotions and mental associations about what life presents you, it will also be like this. So, we need to understand that sorrow is the passage through an undesirable place or situation; suffering is living in that undesirable place; mourning is what moves us out of this suffering and allows us to get over the pain. Of course, time is necessary since it gives us new perspectives and mitigate the effect of this sorrow, but time without intention can lead us to remain in that place that restrains us.
