Cuando entras en Mc Freddie’s por un momento te parece estar en una de esas hamburgueserías de ciudad, con sus menús, hamburguesas, papas y complementos; con grandes carteles encima del mostrador, donde mirar y elegir el menú que más se ajusta a tu paladar. El nombre también te sugiere algo relacionado con el mundo de los grandes burgers, pero en cuanto te metes en la boca el primer nugget de pollo, que en realidad es pollo de verdad rebozado, te das cuenta de lo poco que tiene que ver con el concepto negativo que se ha asociado a los fast foods, ya que en Mc. Freddie’s todo está elaborado de manera casera y con ingredientes frescos.

Alfredo y Natalia vinieron de Madrid hace 6 años y desde entonces echaban de menos en la isla un sitio donde comer buenas hamburguesas. Con mucha ilusión y bastante conocimiento al respecto —ya que proceden de familias con hamburgueserías en la península—, se lanzaron en enero de este año a montar en Corralejo el Mc. Freddie’s. Las hamburguesas de su carta son diseños trabajados, donde todos los ingredientes son artesanos: desde el pan que les hace una tahona todos los días, hasta la carne que pican ellos mismos, incluyendo las salsas, hasta el ketchup, originales y caseras, y las papas peladas, cortadas y fritas al momento.

A parte de las deliciosas hamburguesass, en su carta tienen también menú especial vegetariano y un menú infantil sorprendente para los más peques, con su cajita, que incluye la hamburguesa o los nuggets de pollo, bebida, postre y un juguete-sorpresa de regalo. En Macaronesia hemos quedado encantados con el trato recibido y los bocados degustados y no podemos más que sugerir que vayáis a probarlo vosotros mismos, o que llaméis para encargar vuestro menú favorito, ya que ahora también tienen reparto a domicilio en Corralejo y Tamaragua.

When you go into Mc. Freddie’s for a moment you seem to be in one of those city burger restaurants with menus, burgers, chips and other complements; big display posters over the counter where you can choose the menu you like best. Its name also suggests something related to the world of big burger companies, but the moment you taste the first piece of chicken nugget, which is nothing but real chicken in egg batter, you realise that it has nothing to do with the negative concept associated to fast food, as in Mc. Freddie’s everything is home-made and with fresh ingredients.

Alfredo and Natalia came from Madrid 6 years ago, and since then they had been missing in the island a nice place to eat burgers. Very excited and having a great knowledge on this field —as both of them come from families running burger restaurants in la peninsula—, they dared to set up Mc Freddie’s in Corralejo. The burgers in their menu are elaborated dishes where all the ingredients are home-made, from bread (which a tahona bakes for them every day) to the meat, minced by themselves, including sauces and ketchup, original and home-made, and the chips are pealed, cut and fried to order.

Apart from the delicious tasted burgers, they also have a special vegetarian menu and an amazing children menu for the youngest ones, with a little box including either a burger or chicken nuggets, drink, dessert and a surprise toy gift. In Macaronesia we have been delighted by the way we have been treated and the tasted dishes, and we cannot but suggest that you go there and taste them yourselves or just call and order your favourite menu, as now they also have home delivery service in Corralejo and Tamaragua.

Ya con dos años, su madre, que era monitora de natación, lo tenía metido en el agua, y con 3 andaba en bici de manera asombrosa, por lo que a los 4 tenía su primera moto automática de 49cc de motocross. Being just 22, it’s amazing the sport experience that Juan Monreal has already gathered. When he was two his mother, who was a swimming instructor, was already teaching him and being 3 he could amazingly ride a bike, when he was 4 he already had his first automatic motorbike, a 49cc motocross.

Juanito, que apenas levantaba cuatro palmos del suelo, subido en su moto, comenzó a frecuentar los circuitos, y a los 5 años ya realizó su primer campeonato en la comunidad de Madrid, donde consiguió un inesperado 3er puesto, que marcaría sus objetivos en adelante. Al año siguiente subió de categoría y comenzó a competir, en 60cc con marchas, en campeonatos de España y en todos los regionales que podía. Recuerda esta parte de su infancia de una manera especial, «viajando los fines de semana, con mi familia, por toda España y parte de Europa», nos comenta, «descubriendo nuevos circuitos y conociendo a infinidad de amigos nuevos». Sus resultados no decepcionaban: en 2001 y 2002 consiguió el 3er puesto del Campeonato de España, y el primero de Castilla La Mancha, que le dieron el empujón para subir a la categoría de cadete, 85cc, con 12 años, y empezar a enfocarse profesionalmente en este deporte, con entrenadores específicos para potenciar su ascenso. Cuando todo seguía sobre ruedas, 3 años después, decidieron subirle de categoría a senior para empezar a competir en 125cc y en MX2. Pero a estas alturas, con 15 años, Juan se estaba haciendo mayor y comenzaba a ver que la plena dedicación a este mundo le impedía terminar sus estudios básicos, y empezó a darse cuenta también de que vivir profesionalmente de este deporte en nuestro país no es nada fácil, así que, tomando una decisión realmente madura para alguien de su edad, «colgó las botas», como él dice, para buscar una nueva orientación en su vida. Ese año, mientras estudiaba para terminar el bachiller, la realidad se le tornó muy dura al verse de repente sin los objetivos por los que su carácter competitivo había estado luchando durante tanto tiempo. Hasta que en verano, en Benicassim, descubrió un nuevo aliciente: el kitesurf, de la mano de la escuela Dubtribe. Se le abrió de nuevo el horizonte y al año siguiente comenzó un grado superior de actividades deportivas. En el verano de los 16 años, sus padres lo mandaron a Fuerteventura por primera vez, donde su amigo Miguel le acogió como si de su segunda familia se tratara, para mostrarle todos los te-

Juanito, who was knee-high to a grasshopper, on his motocross, started to practise motocross racing, and when he was five he already took part in his first championship in the region of Madrid, where he got an unexpected third position which would influence his goals from then onwards. The next year he got upgraded and he started to compete on bikes with 60cc engines, in Spanish championships and in as many regional championships as he could. He remembers this part of his childhood in a special way, «travelling on weekends with my family all around Spain and part of Europe», he says, «discovering new motocross tracks and meeting thousand of new friends». His results never disappointed us: in 2001 and 2002 he got the third position in the Spanish championship and the first position in Castilla la Mancha, which boosted him to be upgraded to the cadet category ,85cc, when he was 12, and to focus on this sport in a professional way, with specific trainers who would encourage his promotion. When everything was running smoothly, three years later, they decided to upgrade him again to the senior category to start competing on 125cc engines and on MX2. But at this time, being 15, Juan was growing up and he realised that his complete devotion to this world was preventing him from finishing his basic education and he also realised that making a living on this sport and in this country wasn’t easy at all, so he made a really mature decision for his age, «he hung up his boots», as he says, to look for a new direction in life. This year, as he was studying to finish secondary education, his new life turned out to be really hard when suddenly the targets his competitive character had been fighting for for so many years had disappeared. Then in Summer, in Benicassim, he found out a new attraction: kitesurf, at Dubtribe school. A new horizon opened up and the next year he started a higher education in sports. In the summer of his 16 years his parents sent him to Fuerteventura for the first time, where his friend Miguel became his second family and he showed him all the treasures in the island of the wind.

Fuerteventura le enamoró de tal manera que, tras volver a pasar el invierno a la península, para realizar el curso de instructor de la Federación Española de Kite, regresó al verano siguiente con la intención de establecerse definitivamente en Corralejo. Aquí puede desarrollarse en lo que él define como «un deportista extremo», con una necesidad continua de superarse en todas las disciplinas que practica: freestyle, olas, y también surf y SUP. Su espíritu competitivo sigue latente, aunque a nivel de reto personal y para él mismo, ya que no le gusta nada el mundo federativo y competitivo que considera muy relacionado con la política y el dinero. Sus esfuerzos a día de hoy se centran en entrenar a 4 chicos que están compitiendo para la PKRA junior, y está motivadísimo en transmitirles todo lo que sus entrenadores le enseñaron a él sobre la necesidad del esfuerzo para la superación. Eso sí, les entrena solo en verano, porque tiene claro que los niños deben continuar sus estudios el resto del año y formarse como personas que sepan elegir su destino en la vida; eso le quedó al él muy claro de su propia experiencia. Junto a este proyecto, tiene entre manos también desarrollarse estudiando un módulo de audiovisual, y acaba de

crear la marca de ropa BlackFeet, junto a su amigo Javi. Con esta marca pretenden transmitir la filosofía de la gente que vive la vida al día, sin estrés, «pantalla a pantalla», como él dice. En la actualidad Juan está patrocinado por FKS (Fuerteventura Kite School) como rider imagen y tester de material, y les está realmente agradecido por darle la oportunidad como rider de la marca Wainman Hawaii y por ser de los primeros en el mundo en tener la cometa ManiaC. También le agradece a sus padres todo lo que han hecho por él. Y en Macaronesia le estamos agradecidos a él, por compartir su tiempo con nosotros y por dejarnos asombrados con el espíritu de superación deportiva que le caracteriza.

o Fuerteventura made him fall in love in such a way that after spending the winter in the peninsula, where he took a course as a trainer in the Spanish federation of kite, he returned to Fuerteventura the following summer with the intention of definitely settling down in Corralejo. Here he could become an extreme athlete, continuously needing to overcome himself in all the disciplines he practised: freestyle, waves, surf and SUP. His competitive spirit still remains, although just as far as personal challenge is

concerned, as he no longer likes, which he considers to be too related to politics and money. His efforts nowadays focus on training four children competing for PKRA junior, and he is really interested in transmitting to them what his own trainers had taught him about how necessary effort is in order to overcome oneself. However he only trains them in summer because he is convinced that children must go on with their education the rest of the year and develop as persons who will be able to choose their destiny in life; this is what he learnt from his own experience.

Together with this project he also has the intention of studying an audiovisual module, and also, he has just created the clothing company BlackFeet, together with his friend Javi. With this brand they try to transmit the philosophy of the people who live the present, without stress, ÂŤscreen by screenÂť, as he says. Nowadays Juan is sponsored by FKS (Fuerteventura Kite School) as an image rider and as a material tester, and he feels really grateful to them for giving him the chance of being Wainman Hawaii rider and for being one of the first ones in the world to have the ManiaC kite. He is also thankful to his parents for everything they have done for him. Fuerteventura attracts the islanders as tourists

Este verano 2014 Fuerteventura no solo está recibiendo la llegada de turistas europeos, como es sólito, sino que han llegado, y lo seguirán haciendo, muchos visitantes de otras islas del archipiélago canario. Esto se debe a la apuesta que han hecho, tanto el Cabildo majorero como las distintas organizaciones, por los artistas musicales; es así que tanto en el Fuerteventura en Música (FEM) como en la Carpa nocturna del Mudial de Windsurfing y Kiteboarding han estado incluidos en el cartel grupos, cantantes y DJs de renombre como Calle 13, Dani Martín o Juan Magán, entre otros. Por tanto se estima una importante subida en el turismo joven canario, sin descartar, que estas fiestas también han atraído a muchos jóvenes de la península.

This summer 2014, Fuerteventura is not only attracting European tourists, as usual, but also visitors coming from other islands in the archipelago. This is due to the majorero inter island council and other organizations’ choice of musical artists; so, the list of artists performing in Fuerteventura in Music (FEM) as well as that in the night-life marquee set up for the Windsurfing and Kiteboarding championships, include renowned groups, singers and DJs like Calle 13, Dani Martín or Juan Magán among others. So an increase of young tourists from the Canary Islands is foreseen, not ruling out the possibility of many young people from the peninsula being attracted by these festivities too.

El Bristol más limpio gracias a los voluntarios de Avanfue El pasado 19 de julio, una treintena de personas participaron como voluntarios, junto con la Asociación de Voluntarios Ambientales (Avanfue), para limpiar toda la zona del Charco de Bristol, en Corralejo (La Oliva). Dicha zona tiene una gran importancia ecológica, debido a que en ella tiene lugar la reproducción de gran cantidad de peces y crustáceos. Los voluntarios recogieron casi una tonelada de basura, en su mayoría plástico, que es altamente contaminante. Otros objetivos de esta jornada solidaria fueron los de concienciar a la población majorera, para disminuir así la contaminación ambiental y mostrar respeto y compañerismo hacia aquellos que están participando en las brigadas de limpieza de piche en las costas del Cabrón, en Gran Canaria.

`El Bristol´ gets cleaner thanks to the volunteers from Avanfue Last July 19th , around thirty people pitched in, as volunteers, together with the association of environmental volunteers (Avanfue) to clean up the area of «el Charco de Bristol», in Corralejo (La Oliva). Such area is of a great environmental importance as in this area the breeding of a great amount of fish and crustaceans takes place. The volunteers picked up almost a ton of waste, most of it plastic, which is highly polluting. Other target of this solidarity day was that of making the majorera population aware of the need to reduce environmental pollution and show respect and fellowship towards those who are taking part in the pitch clean-up crews in the coast of El Cabrón, in the island of Gran Canaria.

La Consejería de Agricultura, Ganadería, Pesca y Aguas del Gobierno de Canarias, a través del Instituto Canario de Investigaciones Agrarias (ICIA), está desarrollando un proyecto orientado al aprovechamiento de la niebla para el riego de cultivos, tal como procedían los antiguos pobladores de El Hierro. Sin embargo, conseguir destilar el agua de las nubes no es un tarea sencilla, ya que una nube del tamaño de una piscina olímpica contiene tan solo dos litros de agua líquida, debido a que las nubes están formadas por microgotas de agua. Poco a poco se van mejorando los sistemas de mallas que recogen esas microgotas para obtener mejores resultados.

The council of agriculture, livestock, fisheries and water in the Canary Islands’ Government, through the Canary Islands’ Institute of Agrarian research (ICIA), is developing a project aimed to take advantage of the fog for the irrigation of crops, just like the old inhabitants in El Hierro used to do. However, trying to distil the water from the clouds is not an easy task, as a cloud as big as an Olympic swimming pool only contains two litres of liquid water, as clouds are made up of droplets of water. Little by little, the mesh systems harvesting the droplets are improving to get better results.

La relación de Mauro con el mundo de la fotografía podemos decir que comenzó de forma tardía. Hasta los 26 años se había dedicado a la ingeniería medioambiental, y de repente, un día, decidió darle un giro a su vida; dejó el trabajo y compró un billete para dar la vuelta al mundo durante un año, aventura que fue documentando día a día en un blog, al que iba subiendo las fotografías que narraban su viaje.

We can say that the relationship of Mauro with the world of photography started relatively late. ASCAV Asociación Canaria del Alquiler Vacacional Entrevista a Javier Valentín, abogado y vicepresidente

Según un estudio de la consultora turística Magma Tri, en Canarias existen unas 53.000 viviendas vacacionales, de personas que están intentando ganarse la vida honradamente, en esta situación de crisis que atravesamos, ofreciendo un tipo de alojamiento que es demandado por muchos turistas que llegan a nuestras costas. Esta actividad, en espera de ser regulada, está poniendo en apuros a muchos de estos propietarios, con sanciones que llegan por parte de las instituciones. Macaronesia: ¿Qué es ASCAV? Javier Valentín: Es una asociación sin ánimo de lucro, constituida en mayo de 2014, y que en escasos dos meses de vida cuenta con más de doscientos asociados. La asociación defiende los derechos e intereses de los propietarios e intermediarios de viviendas vacacionales en toda la Comunidad Autónoma Canaria. M: ¿Con que objetivos se crea la asociación? J: En primer lugar, luchar porque el Gobierno de Canarias regule en nuestra Comunidad Autónoma la vivienda vacacional como tipología de alojamiento turístico (como ya está regulado en Cataluña o Madrid). En segundo lugar, representar y velar por los intereses de los propietarios e intermediarios, servir de representación del sector y establecer las colaboraciones con las Administraciones Públicas, a fin de que se cumplan los fines asociativos. M: ¿Hay esperanzas positivas respecto a la regulación de esta actividad? J: El Presidente del Gobierno de Canarias, D. Paulino Rivero, manifestó en la reunión que mantuvimos el 14 de mayo de 2014, que iban a tratar este tema con la «importancia social y económica que se merece» (textualmente). Entendemos que el Gobierno de Canarias no va a dar la espalda a esas miles de familias Canarias, y a un sector que trajo 1.300.000 turistas al archipiélago en el año 2013.

M: ¿Cuáles crees que son las principales causas que ralentizan este proceso de regularización? J: Hay algún lobby que no está interesado en que esto se regule, porque consideran que van a perder cuota de mercado (aunque no lo digan así). Lo que no comprenden es que el turista que busca una vivienda vacacional es un turista que está buscando un producto muy concreto y no desea alojarse en otros establecimientos convencionales. La vivienda vacacional no es competencia de los establecimientos actualmente legalizados, precisamente porque se trata de un producto distinto. M: ¿Qué ganancias representaría la regulación del alquiler vacacional en Canarias? J: Según el informe citado, el alquiler vacacional genera en Canarias el 19% PIB turístico y el 24% del empleo turístico en Canarias. Tiene una gran importancia por los empleos que genera en la pequeña y mediana empresa, dado que a este turista solo se le ofrece el alojamiento, por lo que debe gastar y consumir el resto de servicios en las islas. No es un turista de «todo incluido». M: ¿A qué multas se enfrentan las personas que ofertan sus viviendas como alquiler vacacional? J: El Gobierno de Canarias ha impuesto ya más de 7.500 multas que oscilan entre los 18.000€ y 60.000€. M: ¿En qué punto está la regulación de dicho alquiler? J: Estamos a la espera de la reunión con el Presidente del Gobierno de Canarias el próximo 31 de julio de 2014, en la que nos comunicará cuál es la postura definitiva del Gobierno sobre una posible regulación de esta materia. According to a research by the tour consultant MagmaTri, in the Canary Island there are around 53.000 holiday dwellings belonging to people who are trying to make a living in an honest way, in this period of crisis we are going through, by offering a kind of accommodation demanded by lots of tourists coming to our islands. This activity, waiting to be regulated, is presenting severe financial difficulties for lots of their owners, as they are being fined by institutions. Macaronesia: What is ASCAV? Javier Valentín: It’s a non profit association set up in May 2014 that in barely two months counts on more than 200 members. This association stands for the rights and interests of these owners and agents of holiday dwellings in the whole region of the Canary Islands. M: What’s the aim of this association? J: First of all, to fight for the regulation in our Autonomous Region of holiday dwellings by the Canary Islands’ Government as a kind of tourist accommodation (as it’s already being done in Catalunya or Madrid). Then, to stand for the rights and interests of owners and agents, to represent this sector and establish the cooperation with the public administration so that the targets of this association can be reached. M: Are there any hopes regarding the regulation of this activity? J: The president of the Canary Islands’ Government, D. Paulino Rivero, stated, in the meeting we held on May 14th 2014, they were going to deal with this issue with the «social and financial importance it deserves» (literally). We understand the Canary Islands’ Government isn’t going to give the cold shoulder to those thousands of families in the Islands, a sector that brought 1.300.000 tourist to the archipelago in 2013.

M: What do you think are the main reasons that are delaying this regulation process? J: There is a lobby that isn’t very interested in this regulation because they consider they will lose market share (although they don’t say it that way). What they don’t understand is that the tourist who is looking for a holiday dwelling is a tourist who is looking for a very concrete product, and not any other conventional lodging. Holiday dwellings are not a competence of the already regulated businesses, just because we are talking about a different product. M: Which benefits would the regulation of holiday dwellings in the Canary Islands mean? J: According to the mentioned research, holiday dwellings generate in the Canary Islands a 19% tourist GDP, and the 24% of tourist employment. It’s extremely important because of the jobs they generate in the medium and small businesses, as these tourists are only offered a lodging, and they have to spend money and pay for the rest of the services in the island. They aren’t all-included tourists. M: How much are the fines that people offering their dwellings as holiday accommodation have to face? J: The Canary Islands’ Government has already imposed more than 7.500 fines ranging from 18.000€ to 60.000€. M: How far are we from reaching such regulation? J: we’re waiting for the meeting with the president of the Canary Islands’ Government next July 31st 2014, where he’ll let us know the final decision of the Government regarding the regulation of this activity. Desde luego la tecnología supone un gran avance y comodidad para todos, pero ¿hasta qué punto es bueno? Sistemas GPS instalados en el collar de nuestro perro, por si se pierde, aplicaciones que permiten denunciar el maltrato animal al instante, otras que nos permiten fomentar la adopción de perros, encontrar amigos perrunos cercanos con los que poder jugar y un sinfín de etcéteras.

Certainly technology means a great step forward and is very convenient for all of us. But, up to what extent is it good? GPS systems installed on our dogs’ collars, in case they get lost, applications that allow us to report animal abuse right off the bat. Others allow us to promote the adoption of dogs, find dog-friends living nearby in order to play with them and an endless list of etc.

La última novedad es una consola diseñada exclusivamente para perros: puede ser una herramienta educativa, ya que el perro aprende involucrándose en el juego. Ahora bien, te la venden como si fuera una solución a los problemas: «Si tu perro pasa varias horas solo al día, tienes miedo que tome por asalto tu calzado, desarme el sillón o sientes culpa por no brindarle un amiguito para su compañía. Ahora tienes la solución.» Señoras y señores, despierten. Os están comprando vuestro sentimiento de miedo y culpabilidad. Léanlo de nuevo. Si tu perro pasa varias horas solo al día, no hay problema, los perros duermen una media de 14h o más. Si el perro destroza tu calzado o sillón o sufre problemas de ansiedad, es que no le estás dedicando suficiente ejercicio o le estás dando una atención equivocada. Todo esto no se soluciona comprándole una consola. Si no tratas el problema de raíz, saldrá la mala hierba por otro lado. Otra cosa a la que quería hacer referencia son los teléfonos móviles. De igual forma que la consola, la telefonía nos brinda muchas cosas positivas, pero cada vez somos más los que paseamos al perro mientras estamos mirando Facebook, nos escribimos por Whatsapp, consultamos nuestro e-mail, etc., ignorando completamente a nuestro perro y a nuestro alrededor. Nuestros perros no tienen esa manera de distraerse, su principal distracción somos nosotros y el mundo físico que les rodea. Si en casa ya los ignoramos por distintas razones y si estamos trabajando todo el día, el momento del paseo para el perro es su mayor satisfacción; interactuar contigo y con lo que se encuentre por el camino es lo que desea. ¡Por favor, préstale atención! Si me decís: «Es el único momento que tengo de tranquilidad para mirar mi teléfono», primero, no me lo creo y segundo, entonces ¿por qué tienes perro? Prueba a salir a pasear con tu perro sin el teléfono varias veces, verás la mejora.

Just like the console, telephony offers lots of positive things, but there are more and more of us who are walking our dogs while surfing our facebook, writing whatsaaps, opening our e-mails etc, totally ignoring our dog and our surrounding. Our dogs can’t entertain themselves the same way, their main entertainment is us, the physic world surrounding them. If we ignore them at home for several reasons or if we are working the whole day, walking time is the greatest satisfaction for our dog; interacting with you or anything it finds in its way is what it wishes. Please, pay attention to it!. If you tell me: «this is the only peaceful moment I have to eyeball my phone», first, I don’t believe it, and secondly, why do you have a dog? Try going out and walking your dog without your telephone several times and you’ll notice the improvement.

La trayectoria creativa de Noemí empezó en 1998, cuando inició sus estudios de Diseño de Moda en A Coruña. La faceta creativa había estado siempre presente en ella y antes incluso de terminar sus estudios ya fue contratada como diseñadora de Pull&Bear; trabajo que le dio muchas tablas, pero que acabó dejando, en su afán por seguir aprendiendo y evolucionando en el mundo del arte. Continuó formándose en cerámica artística, en la Escuela Pablo Picasso, a la vez que realizaba módulos de vídeo, fotografía, diseño web... siempre intentando completarse como artista y persona creativa. Estudió dibujo artístico en Brighton y realizó un curso específico de colecciones de camisetas en la Universidad de las Artes de Londres, Central Saint Martins, donde aprendió buena técnica para la estampación y el diseño de estas prendas. En su búsqueda de la buena calidad de vida y el buen clima, descubrió Fuerteventura hace ahora casi 4 años, y hace unos cuantos meses puso en pie su proyecto Nikau: una tienda-taller, donde expone y tiene a la venta su arte estampado en creaciones enfocadas al mundo deportivo, sobre todo al surf. Entre sus preciosas piezas, exclusivas y artesanales, podemos encontrar camisetas, sudaderas, complementos, albornoces de toalla para el surf... con diseños originales que pueden ser también personalizados bajo pedido. Y no solo encontramos creaciones de Nikau, sino también de otros artistas colaboradores de la isla. Noemí’s creative career started in 1998, when she began her Fashion and Design education in A Coruña. Her creative side had always been innate and even before finishing her education she was contracted as a designer by Pull&Bear, a position that made her gain experience but that she quitted in her pursuit of learning and improvement in the world of art. She went on to study artistic ceramics, at «Escuela Pablo Picasso», while studying video, photography, web design.... always looking for fulfilment as an artist and a creative person. She also studied artistic drawing in Brighton and took a specific course on t-shirt collection at London University of Arts, Central Saint Martins, where she learnt a good technique for the printing and design of this piece of clothing. In her search for good quality of life and nice weather she found out Fuerteventura, almost four years ago now, and some months ago she carried out her project Nikau: a studio-workshop where she exhibits and sells her printed works which are focused on sports, mainly surf. CUERPO ALCALINO, CUERPO SANO ALKALINE BODY, HEALTHY BODY La principal clave de nuestra salud es el pH de nuestro cuerpo, es decir, el indicador que nos marca su acidez o alcalinidad, variando entre 0 y 14. Lo ideal es mantenerse en 7,4 (un pH ligeramente alcalino) y nuestra sangre intenta siempre rondar esta cifra, con una variación de +/- 0,04. Lo que ocurre es que factores como los malos hábitos alimenticios, la contaminación, el estrés... tienden a acidificar nuestro pH, y entonces la sangre reacciona robando los nutrientes necesarios a otros organismos vitales, para compensar este desequilibrio. Esto se traduce en síntomas como dolor de cabeza, cansancio, problemas digestivos, desmineralización de cabello y uñas... Para saber si nuestro organismo tiene el pH correcto no se mira directamente en la sangre, sino en otros líquidos del cuerpo como la saliva o la orina. Cuando la sangre se está acidificando roba minerales a estos otros líquidos, para alcalinizarse. Si nuestro cuerpo presenta el pH adecuado, el clima es poco favorable para el desarrollo de virus y de bacterias, sin embargo un pH ácido hace que el cuerpo sea propenso a la enfermedad.

When our blood acidifies it steals minerals from these liquids in order to alkalise. If our body has the right pH, this is unfavourable for the development of viruses and bacteria. However a right acid pH turns our body vulnerable to disease.

Ejercicio físico: cuando mantenemos el cuerpo activo el metabolismo se nos acelera, se eliminan toxinas (los tóxicos también nos acidifican) y esto hace que el organismo funcione mejor. Es aconsejable hacer deporte adaptado a la edad y al nivel de preparación de cada uno. «Ducha interior»: se refiere a ayudar a nuestro organismo a eliminar las toxinas, utilizando plantas que le ayuden en su labor de limpieza. También es importante la buena hidratación.
