UNO DE LOS INMUEBLES MÁS ANTIGUOS DEL CENTRO DE CORRALEJO FUE TRANSFORMADO EN EL 2007 POR ALESSANDRO Y DARIA EN UNA CASA DE COMIDAS, CON SU ZONA DE BARRA, SU TERRACITA EN LA CALLE, COMEDOR Y SU PATIO TRASERO CAMINO DE LA COCINA. ASÍ NACÍA EL PINCHA CABRA, UN BAR DE RIQUÍSIMAS TAPAS CASERAS, DONDE PUEDES ELEGIR ENTRE PICOTEAR ALGO MIENTRAS TE TOMAS UNAS CERVEZAS O UNOS VINOS, O CENAR COMPLETAMENTE Y QUEDAR SATISFECHO POR UN MÓDICO PRECIO. Esta pareja de italianos ha hecho muy bien los deberes: han remodelado la casa, conservando la arquitectura tradicional y todo el encanto de las antiguas casas canarias, y han aprendido, a través de varios cocineros de distintas regiones españolas, la cocina casera española y canaria. Sus propietarios han primado, por encima de todo, la autenticidad de la cocina tradicional, por lo que entre los miembros de su equipo siempre tienen a un cocinero español o canario, para que el local no pierda la esencia de la isla en la que se encuentra. Ahora sirven una gran variedad de tapas y medias raciones: unas ya elaboradas —como los estofados y guisos, cocinados a fuego lento para ablandar sus ingredientes y

concentrar sabores—, y otras cocinadas al momento, para disfrutar de sus texturas y puntos de cocción. Desde la clásica garbanzada canaria, al popular cabrito frito, pasando por la paella y llegando hasta un solomillo a la pimienta; podréis encontrar unas 50 referencias de «miniplatos» para todos los gustos y paladares. Así que si lo que os apetece es picar algo en un ambiente desenfadado y local, el Pincha Cabra es una buena opción. Y si es martes o viernes noche, podréis además disfrutar de música en directo en uno de los entornos más auténticos del norte de nuestra isla de Fuerteventura. ONE OF THE OLDEST VENUES DOWNTOWN CORRALEJO WAS TRANSFORMED BY ALESSANDRO AND DARÍA INTO A RESTAURANT IN 2007, HAVING A BAR AREA, AN OUTSIDE TERRACE, A DINNING ROOM AND AN INNER YARD IN THE WAY TO THE KITCHEN. THAT WAY PINCHA CABRA WAS BORN, A BAR OF DELICIOUS HOME-MADE «TAPAS» WHERE YOU CAN CHOOSE AMONG SEVERAL APPETIZERS WHILE HAVING SOME BEERS, WINES OR HAVE A FULL DINNER FOR A REASONABLE PRICE.

This Italian couple have done their homework very well: they have refurbished the venue, keeping the traditional architecture and all the charm of the old Canarian houses, and they have learnt the Spanish and Canarian cuisine from cooks coming from different Spanish regions. Its owners have prioritized, most of all, the authenticity of traditional cooking, which is why they always have a Spanish or Canarian cook among their staff, so that the restaurant doesn’t lose the essence of the island where it is located. At present they serve a wide variety of «tapas» and half rations: some of them are already made— like stews, cooked over a slow heat in order to soften the ingredients

and concentrate the flavour— and others are cooked on the spot, to enjoy their texture and right cooking. From the classical Canarian chickpea stew to the popular fried kid, «paella» or sirloin in pepper sauce; you can find around 50 different appetizers for all tastes. So, if you feel like grabbing a bite in a friendly local atmosphere, Pincha Cabra is a good option. And if it is Tuesday or Friday night you can, furthermore, enjoy live music in one of the most pleasant settings in the North of Fuerteventura. They have an interesting promotion: 8 «tapas» and two drinks for just 24€.

KITE SURF CENTER RED SHARK CORRALEJO

Para ella era como Verano Azul: todo el día en la playa, jugueteando entre la arena y el agua que como una lengua salada mojaba las plantas de sus piececillos. Llegó un momento en que ya el chapoteo no era bastante para ella y cayó en sus manos un plaquin (primitivo bodyboard que consistía básicamente en una tablilla de madera), con el que empezó a coger todas las espumas que podía, dando rienda suelta a su hiperactividad para llegar más tranquilita a casa al acabar el día. Lo del plaquin era muy divertido, pero tenía un problema y es que se hundía, entonces ella no podía llegar hasta donde estaban sus compis que ya tenían bodyboard, así que con 9 años, se dijo a sí misma que ese iba a ser su último verano sin una herramienta digna y, con un plan estratégico de acoso y derribo, se pasó todo el invierno repitiendo en su casa, una y otra vez, que ella lo que quería era un bb. Tanta perseverancia dejó sin opciones a sus padres y en su décimo cumpleaños, que caía por mayo, le regalaron un «cortxito» de esos de espuma. Era azul y con nostalgia aún recuerda su nombre —«Wiki-wiki»— y el cuidado con el que le quitaba la arena que se metía por dentro de la espuma. La afición se le iba metiendo por las venas y tanta dedicación no pasó desapercibida para algunos de los bodyboarders mayores de su playa, a los que ella veía como héroes, pues ya salían en las revistas, y a los 13 años se le acercó uno de ellos y le preguntó que si no le gustaría competir, que ellos le podían ayudar con algo de material y llevarla a los campeonatos. Al poco tiempo ese chico le regaló su primer bb de verdad y ese fue el principio de todo. Llegaron los campeonatos y no lo hacía mal del todo; poco a poco se fue despertando la competidora que tenía dentro y los resultados empezaron a mejorar. Al principio, en invierno desconectaba un poco del surf, pero ya cuando iba a 2º de B.U.P. empezaron las primeras «piras» para ir de campeonatos. Era una época en la que

los sponsors dedicaban los mismos esfuerzos a surfistas y bodyboarders y con ese apoyo podía viajar para competir. Así fue primero a campeonatos nacionales, luego europeos y finalmente los mundiales, donde tuvo su primera experiencia con 16 años, cuando se le brindó la posibilidad de viajar a Hawaii, ¡un mes en medio del curso!, y sus compañeros de clase la miraban como si fuese un extraterrestre. De aquel primer viaje le quedan dos grandes recuerdos: el choque de pasar de las playas de arena a las potentes y agresivas rompientes de fondo de roca de ese privilegiado archipiélago, y el sueño de algún día poder vivir profesionalmente del bb. Así que de vuelta a casa se propuso un objetivo: quería llegar a poder dedicarse en cuerpo y alma a su pasión. Empezó a entrenar duro, competía en todos los circuitos que podía, campeonatos y más campeonatos, muchas alegrías y algunas agrias decepciones, pero ella es cabezota y, mientras iba recorriendo medio mundo (Japón, Irlanda, Sudáfrica, México, Indonesia, Panamá…), se iba forjando una gran competidora que finalmente, después de haberlo acariciado varias veces, lograba en el año 2011, en el campeonato de Azores, proclamarse campeona del mundo del circuito IBA, todo un broche de oro a una gran carrera que había comenzado 15 años atrás. Después de tantos años dedicándose al bb de alto nivel y una vez alcanzados todos los objetivos que se había marcado, ha decidido dar un cambio a su vida, dejar de lado la competición y tomarse tiempo para reinventarse. Por eso ha decidido establecerse en Fuerteventura, donde se puede disfrutar de unos de los niveles de olas más alto del mundo sin masificaciones y cerca de casa. Por nuestra parte estamos contentos de que hayas decidido quedarte por aquí, así podremos disfrutar de tu estilazo en las olas (libres de tus temidos tiburones) y del ejemplo de tenacidad y perseverancia que representas. It came a moment when splashing around wasn’t enough for her and a «plaquín» got to her hands (a primitive bodyboard which consisted mainly of a little wooden board), with which she started to catch as many foams as she could, thus channelling her hyperactivity to get home

more relaxed at the end of the day. This little board was funny, but it had a small problem, it sank, and she could never get to where her mates were, as they already had a bodyboard, so when she turned 9 she promised herself that would be her last summer without a proper board, and

with a strategic plan of «hounding and bringing down» she spent the whole winter repeating at home ontime and time again that what she really wanted was a bb. So much perseverance gave no option to her parents, and when she turned 10, in May, they gave her a little cork for catching foams. It was blue, and she still remembers its name wistfully—«Wiki-wiki»— and how carefully she used to remove from it the sand mixed in the foams. Her interest was growing and growing, and so much interest didn’t go unnoticed by some older bobyboarders on their beaches, whom she looked up to as her heroes, as they already appeared in magazines, and when she was 13 one of them approached her and suggested her competing, offering to help her with some equipment and taking her to championships. Some time later that boy gave her her first real bb, and that was the beginning of everything. Championships started and she didn’t do really bad; little by little the competitor inside her was waking up and her results started to improve. At the beginning she used to disconnect from surf a little bit in winter, but when she was studying the second year of BUP she started to miss school in order to attend championships. It was a time when sponsors were evoted to surfers and bodyboarders alike, and with their support you could travel to compete. That way she attended, first of all, national championships, later on, European ones and finally world championships, where she enjoyed her first experience when she was 16 and she was offered the chance to travel to Hawaii, a month in the middle of the school year, and her school mates looked at her as if she were an alien. good memories from her first travel: the shock of finding those aggressive breakers on rock bottoms as compared to the sand beaches she was used to, and her dream of being able to make a living on bodyboard one day. So, being back home she set herself a goal: she wanted to devote herself to her passion, body and soul. She started to train hard, took part in every competition in her way, more and more championships, lots of happiness and some bitter disappointments. But she’s tenacious and as she was travelling around the world (Japan, Ireland, South Africa, Mexico, Indonesia, Panama...) she was becoming a great competitor who, finally, after having been close for so many times, succeeded in becoming world Champion in the Azores Championship, IBA world tour, year 2011,

a true golden clasp for her great career that had started 15 years before. After so many years devoted to high-level bb and once she had reached all the goals she had set herself she has decided to give a change to her life: leaving competition and taking a time to reinvent herself. This is why she has decided to settle in Fuerteventura, where she enjoys one of the highest standards of waves in the world, free of crowds and near home. GeCKo: el primer Beauty Bar GeCKo: the first Beauty Bar in Fuerteventura de Fuerteventura

Kimon y Chiara son una pareja que con muchísimo entusiasmo han montado en Corralejo el primer Beauty Bar de Fuerteventura, llamado GeCKo Spa+Rehab. El concepto de este tipo de local apareció en los años 90 en E.E.U.U., y la principal premisa es el cuidado y la relajación de uno mismo en todos los aspectos. Tienen spa, masajes con envolturas, tratamientos faciales y corporales, manicura con exfoliación, pedicura, reconstrucción de uñas de gel semipermanente, depilación, etc. Chiara es fisioterapeuta y esteticista, y ofrece tratamientos personalizados, deportivos y también rehabilitación. Tamarán: the first guirre born in captivity in Fuerteventura

Hace siete meses nacía Tamarán, el primer guirre (Neophron pernocpterus majorensis) de Fuerteventura criado en cautividad. Tras su puesta en libertad el pasado 30 de octubre, en tierras majoreras, se ha integrado perfectamente en la colonia de su misma especie, y gracias a una baliza de seguimiento, instalada en su lomo, podrá aportar a la comunidad científica datos fiables de su comportamiento, para así poder frenar el claro proceso de extinción de esta especie protegida: uno de los emblemas, junto a la avutarda, de la fauna de Fuerteventura.

Tamarán was born 7 months ago, the first guirre from Fuerteventura bred in captivity. After having been released on the last 30th of October in majorera land, it has fully integrated in the colony of its own species, and thanks to a tracking device on its back it will be able to provide the scientific community with reliable data about its behaviour, in order to stop its clear process of extinction of this protected species: it is one of the symbols, together with the great bustard, of the fauna in Fuerteventura.

Los turoperadores se pronuncian Algunos de los turoperadores más importantes que operan en nuestra isla se han quejado, ante el Cabildo, del servicio deficitario que presentan algunos establecimientos hoteleros, al no tener contratado el personal necesario para dar el servicio adecuado a la cantidad de clientes que alojan. Los turoperadores amenazan con excluir de sus catálogos a quienes no cumplan con las plantillas necesarias para dar servicios de calidad, indicando que no puede cargarse de trabajo a una plantilla reducida para así aumentar beneficios económicos, porque eso supone una imagen nefasta para el turista, que queda descontento y no vuelve más, además de que las condiciones de contratación del personal son inhumanas. También hacen referencia a la necesidad de mejora en las anticuadas infraestructuras de muchas de las cadenas hoteleras de la isla.

Tour operators state their position Some of the most important tour operators in our island have complained to the town council because of the unprofitable service offered by some hotels which don’t have enough staff to offer an adequate service to all the customers they lodge. Tour operators have threatened to exclude from their catalogues all those hotels which don’t have the adequate staff to provide a quality service, pointing out that they can’t overload their small staff in order to increase their profits, as this contributes an ill-fated image for the tourist, who is not satisfied and will never ever come back, apart from the fact that the terms of the staff contacts are inhuman. They also refer to the need to improve the infrastructure of many hotel chains in the island.

El pueblecito pesquero de El Cotillo se ha posicionado como el 4º destino emergente de España, según la cantidad de búsquedas de TripAdvisor (del 1 de enero al 31 de octubre). Por su parte, Corralejo ha sido premiado por los clientes de TripAdvisor como el «destino emergente» más importante de Europa y el noveno del mundo en 2013.

On the other hand, Corralejo has been awarded a prize by TripAdvisor customers as the most important emerging destination in Europe, and the 9th in the world in 2013.

Macaronesia: Cuéntanos la trayectoria de ACMEFUER en los últimos años José Mª: Empezamos un grupo de 4 personas en 2009, ya que consideramos que existía un movimiento cannábico en acción en el que nos veíamos identificados. En 2010 conseguimos los papeles del registro y nuestro CIF como asociación, y a partir de ahí comenzamos a trabajar en el autocultivo, para poder distribuir cannabis a nuestros socios, sacándoles del mercado negro y aportándoles siempre un producto de buena calidad y mucha información clara y concisa al respecto. Hemos ido creciendo como una gran familia y en la actualidad tenemos 17 trabajadores en nóminas, dos locales —acabamos de inaugurar la Asociación en Corralejo— y también una granja de reinserción, y poco a poco vamos mejorando a modo de cooperativa, donde se van creando puestos de trabajo para nuestros propios socios a medida que vamos creciendo. M: ¿Cuáles han sido los principales temas de San Canuto este año?

M: ¿Cómo es la respuesta de la sociedad a vuestro trabajo? J: Creemos que positiva, que poco a poco se va superando el tabú que envuelve al mundo del cannabis y que la conciencia social cada vez juega más a nuestro favor. Se están produciendo cambios, incluso a nivel mundial, no hay más que ver el reciente mensaje de Obama en los medios de comunicación, descriminalizando el uso del cannabis. M: ¿Cuáles son los pasos de ACMEFUER para un futuro? J: Podemos destacar un nuevo proyecto legal que no va en la línea del cannabis medicinal sino de la impulsión del cáñamo industrial. Fuerteventura es un lugar que, debido a sus inmejorables condiciones climáticas y su territorio fácilmente controlable, podría convertirse en una gran exportadora de cáñamo industrial. Esta variante del Cannabis sativa, con mucha menos concentración en tetrahidrocannabinol (THC) que la variante índica, lleva utilizándose desde la edad media para la fabricación de tejidos,

M: ¿Qué personalidades del mundo del cannabis nos han visitado? J: Hemos tenido la suerte de contar con la presencia de Fernanda de la Figuera, la primera activista del cannabis en España; Joep Omen, presidente de la ENCOD (Coalición Europea para unas leyes sobre drogas justas y efectivas); Derrick Bergman, corresponsal de la «High Times Magazine” y presidente de VOC, la principal asociación cannábica de Holanda. Han asistido 16 asociaciones de Canarias, la Federación Vasca de cannabis EHKEEF y una asociación de Extremadura y otra de Toledo.

El fin de semana del 17 al 19 de enero tuvo lugar en Corralejo la celebración de San Canuto, patrón de los consumidores de marihuana, que un año más —y van ya 4 eventos con este— se reunieron para reivindicar los derechos de los consumidores de cannabis. Macaronesia estuvo allí y pudimos entrevistar a José Mª Alonso Viña, presidente de ACMEFUER (Asociación de Cannabis Medicinal de Fuerteventura) y uno de los organizadores de este evento que transcurrió entre charlas de expertos, comidas tradicionales, catas de cannabis y «buenos humos», como ellos dicen.

Quizás el cáñamo sea el futuro de Fuerteventura, una forma natural y sostenible de desarrollarnos y asegurarnos puestos de trabajo, lejos de las fluctuaciones y las invasiones del turismo masivo, para volver a vivir de la tierra y de sus frutos.

The weekend from the 17th to the 19th of January the festivities of San Canuto, patron saint of marijuana consumers, took place in Corralejo. One more year —this has been the 4th event— they met to vindicate the rights of cannabis consumers. Macaronesia was there and could interview José Mª Alonso Viña, president of ACMEFUER (Association of Therapeutic cannabis in Fuerteventura) and one of the organizers of this event that proceeded what with speeches by experts, traditional food, cannabis tasting and a very good environment.

Macaronesia: Tell us about ACMEFUER trajectory in the last years. José Mª: There were just 4 of us at the beginning in the year 2009, as we considered that a cannabis movement with which we felt identified was beginning to take place. In 2010 we got the permit from the registry and our corporate tax Id number (CIF) as an association, and from that moment onwards we started to work in marijuana home-growing so as to distribute cannabis among our members, taking them away from the black market and offering a top quality product apart from clear and concise information regarding this product. We have been growing like a big family and we have at present 17 employees, two of them are locals — we have just inaugurated the Association in Corralejo — and also a farm for reinsertion, and little by little we are improving as a cooperative, where new jobs are being created for our own members as we grow. M: Which have been the main topics in San Canuto this year? J: The main thematic focus has been responsible consumption, providing our members with information about how they do it in other places in Spain and Europe, and about how to consume cannabis inflicting the least possible damage to our body. M: Which dignitaries in the world of cannabis have visited us? J: We have been lucky to have been visited by Fernanda de la Figuera, the first cannabis activist in Spain; Josep Omen, president of the ENCOD (European Coalition for fair and effective laws on drugs); Derrick Bergman, correspondent of the «High Times Magazine» and president of VOC, the main cannabis association in Holand. 16 Canarian Associations this event them, apart from la Federación

J: We think it’s positive, that little by little the taboo against the world of cannabis is being overcome and that social awareness is working out on our side. Changes are taking place, even at a global level, we only have to look at the recent message by Obama in the media, decriminalizing the use of cannabis. M: What are ACMEFUER’s future plans? J: We can highlight a new legal project not about therapeutic cannabis but about boosting industrial hemp. Fuerteventura is a place that, because of its unbeatable weather conditions and an easily manageable land, could turn into an operator of industrial hemp. This kind of Cannabis sativa, containing much less tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) than the Indian kind, has been used since the Middle Ages for the manufacture of fabrics, ropes, threads... After losing the war against petroleum and cotton last century, nowadays the industrial properties of this durable raw material are being retaken, and at present firms like Audi, BMW and Mercedes use it to manufacture a great part of their bumpers and bodyworks, let alone the hemp ropes for the shipbuilding industry, production of paper and cellulose, biofuel, bioconstruction, and the textile industry, which is starting to work with more durable fabrics. Hemp may be the future in Fuerteventura, a natural and sustainable way to develop and ensure work-places, far from the fluctuations and the invasions of a massive tourism, to get back and earn a living on the earth and its fruits again.

LAS INTOLERANCIAS ALIMENTICIAS NUEVA CONSULTA EN NUESTRO CENTRO VEN Y ENTÉRATE: 50€ LA CONSULTA. ¿Sabías que determinadas dolencias pueden estar relacionadas con el rechazo a un alimento? No se trata exactamente de una alergia, porque la intolerancia alimentaria no provoca una reacción inmediata en el organismo y resulta, por tanto, más difícil de detectar. Los huevos, la leche y sus derivados, los cereales, la fruta fresca o los frutos secos son alimentos saludables que determinadas personas no digieren bien, en su conjunto o parcialmente (no toleran alguno de sus componentes). Cuando la digestión y la asimilación de nutrientes no se realiza de manera adecuada se habla de intolerancia alimentaria. Las causas del problema son diversas, sobre todo genéticas y metabólicas, y las consecuencias también varían de un individuo a otro. Molestias gastrointestinales, eccemas o erupciones cutáneas, dolores musculares y problemas relacionados con las articulaciones, e incluso síntomas de ansiedad pueden ser la forma en la que nuestro organismo manifieste una reacción adversa provocada por un alimento concreto. El problema está en que no siempre es fácil relacionar ese alimento con la dolencia porque, a diferencia de lo que ocurre con una alergia, los síntomas pueden aparecer pasados unos días tras su consumo. El test de intolerancia alimentaria es un método efectivo para detectar qué alimentos pueden no resultar beneficiosos para nuestra salud. No hay que alarmarse y recurrir a uno de estos test simplemente porque nos haya sentado mal una comida, pero sí puede ser recomendable cuando se dan una serie de dolencias de origen desconocido o cuando la digestión resulta «pesada» de manera habitual. El test es muy sencillo. Basta con realizar una consulta con nosotros, en el centro de salud y deporte Stéphane Blanc. Una vez realizada, esta prueba dejará al descubierto qué alimentos te provocan intolerancia y, por tanto, es mejor eliminar de tu dieta. Los test de intolerancia, en principio, no tienen nada que ver con la obesidad. Prescindir de un alimento, porque tu organismo lo rechaza, no implica necesariamente una pérdida de peso (aunque puede darse) sino, únicamente, una mejora en tu salud y bienestar. Muchos nutricionistas recurren a él como una herramienta más con la que elaborar una dieta personalizada, en la que queden excluidos aquellos alimentos a los que muestras intolerancia. Será esta dieta equilibrada, siempre unida al ejercicio adecuado, la que consiga, en caso necesario, la deseada pérdida de peso.

Hace unos meses estuvieron a punto de construir, en medio de El Cotillo, una especie de almacén para contenedores de basura. Al final, la presión popular consiguió pararlo, pero nos prometieron quitar todos los hierros que estaban en medio del solar y a día de hoy ahí siguen. ¿Tendremos que acudir a más medios de comunicación para que los quiten?
