Welcome Nineteen years ago, two actors and two directors took a leap. The result? A dynamic theatre company committed to celebrating the word and the actor, rooted deeply in the heart of Downtown Orlando. The plays we produce here at Mad Cow Theatre spring from our community’s soil, stories, and soul. So many stories. So much diversity. With 1776, we take another leap. A leap into our 20th Season. And, a leap into experiencing a familiar story in a whole new way. In every story, there’s a storyteller. And because no two are alike, every storyteller brings a unique essence and perspective to even the most familiar story. A nation’s most important stories — the big bold ones about grand historical achievements — deserve to be told by all types of storytellers. With the playwright’s full approval, a few scattered theatre companies around the country have begun to take the leap of portraying 1776 with a diverse new group of storytellers: women. Today, Mad Cow takes this same leap, with joyful abandon. Thank you to all who make this experiment possible. To the entire artistic team, to the strong women on stage, to our supporters, and to our audience members, thank you for taking this leap with us. My hope is that women and men who see our production of 1776 will have a transformative experience and look at this remarkable story in a new way, through the hearts of new storytellers. Who knows? We might spark new action, acceptance, and love in the world-starting right here on Church Street. Please stay for the talkbacks. I promise they’ll be exhilarating. Your grateful friend,
Mitzi Maxwell
