NEXT TO NORMAL DAMIAN BARRAY (Henry) is making his Mad Cow Theatre debut in Next to Normal. He is a Senior in the BFA Musical Theatre program at the University of Central Florida, where he has appeared in The Pirates of Penzance, The Pajama Game, and Ragtime. He also recently played Georg in Breakthrough Theatre’s production of Spring Awakening. Additionally, he recently presented a workshop featuring pieces from his original pop-rock musical, Life Goes On. MARY ELIZABETH BICE (Stage Manager) is pleased to be working at Mad Cow for the first time. By day, she is a Services Coordinator for Disney Institute. This is not er first exposure the Orlando community. She was the Orlando Repertory Theatre’s House Manager/Events Associate/Volunteer Coordinator for nearly three seasons and continues to have fun there all the time! M.E. received her BA in Stage Management from Kent State University and her Masters in Arts Management from Montclair State University. She has been on the house management team for several Broadway productions including The Producers, Curtains, The Wedding Singer and Spring Awakening. M.E. is excited to be working on this show and getting behind the scenes again. WILLIAM ELLIOTT (Scenic Designer) has designed scenery and lighting for over 200 productions during his career and many of them in the Central Florida area. They include operas at Stetson’s School of Music and the Orlando Opera. Many plays locally at Stetson University, the Civic Theatres, and The University of Central Florida. Some of his favorite designs for Mad Cow Theatre are: Fool for Love, Blithe Spirit, Desdemona, Burn This, The Glass Menagerie, The Cherry Orchard, Crimes of the Heart, The Laramie Project, Ghosts (scenery and Lighting), The Life of Galileo and Legacy of Light. He has designed not only for theatre and opera, but television, film, corporate productions and theme parks. Mr. Elliott teaches stage design, lighting design and production at Stetson University. STEPHAN JONES* (Dan Goodman) Since transplanting to Orlando 10 years ago, Stephan has worked with Orlando Shakes, The REP, and of course, here in the pasture. Past Mad Cow credits include Oscar in The Odd Couple, El Gallo in The Fantasticks, and the title role in Sweeney Todd (to name a few). This marks his 13th production with the Cows. PHILIP KING (Musical Director) is an active bass-baritone, pianist, and composer. He studied Voice and Piano Performance at Drake University where his principal teachers were Edward Corpus, Bruce Perry, and Nicholas Roth. Philip has served as Musical Director for numerous musical theatre productions, including: Miss Saigon, The Marvelous Wonderettes, The Last Five Years, Thursday’s Children (premiere production), Gutenberg! the musical, Beyond the Rainbow, Cabaret, Forbidden Broadway’s Greatest Hits, Andrew Lippa’s The Wild Party, …and the World Goes ‘Round, The Gift of the Magi, and Into the Woods. He currently performs with Gloria Musicae, Sarasota’s professional chorus, and serves as the Choir Director and Organist for the Northwest Presbyterian Church of St. Petersburg. 6


NEXT TO NORMAL ERIN MINER (Lighting Designer) Next to Normal marks Erin’s 59th show with Mad Cow Theatre. She is excited to be working with this great team. When not at Mad Cow, she can be found in the fields of Apopka High School as a drama teacher. MELISSA MINYARD* (Diana Goodman) is pleased to take her first dramatic walk through the pasture after previously appearing in the Orlando Cabaret Festival. A native Floridian, she studied music at Palm Beach Atlantic University, and voice at Rollins. During her 10 years in NYC, she performed the role of Cosette in Les Miserables on Broadway opposite legendary Broadway performer Terrance Mann. Favorite past roles include Dot in Sunday in the Park with George, The Housewife in Working, The Baker’s Wife in Into The Woods, Lilly in The Secret Garden, Fantine in Les Miserables, Kathy in The Last Five Years, and on One Life To Live where she got to say: “Excuse me, is that a dead body?” Playing Diana is the achievement of a genuine bucket list goal. Much love to B & The girls. DAVID SHIPMAN (Dr. Fine/Dr. Madden) is ecstatic to be performing in his first Mad Cow production! His favorite past roles include Danny in Grease, Michael in Smokey Joe’s Cafe, Georg in Spring Awakening and Paul in A Chorus Line. He would like to thank this incredibly talented cast for teaching him so much, his wonderful girlfriend, Jessie, for both her encouragement and putting up with his ridiculous schedule while taking care of their new pup, and his family for their constant love and support. CORRINE WALSH (Costume Designer) received a BFA in Fiber from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2008, but made her first dress in 1993. She was most recently the Wardrobe Supervisor for the Blue Man Group National Tour, but is now very excited to pursue more design opportunities here in Orlando! She also has a clothing line, “EDIT”, which will soon be wildly successful. Thanks Mad Cow! EMILY WALTON (Natalie) is thrilled to be performing on her first Mad Cow stage. Recently, she has performed with The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra in the choruses of La Boheme and Home for the Holidays at The Bob Carr. A few of her favorite previous roles include Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Emily Webb in Our Town, Kim MacAfee in Bye Bye Birdie, and Glinda in The Wiz. Emily is a recent graduate of The Osceola County School for the Arts and the Florida Opera Theatre Apprentice Program. She looks forward to attending Rollins College in the fall.

NEXT TO NORMAL TIMOTHY WILLIAMS (Director) received a BA in Theater Arts from the University of Central Florida Conservatory Theatre, and has performed and directed in community, regional and academic theatre or twenty‐five years. He was a Resident Actor and Associate Artist at the Orlando Shakespeare Theater for four years and performed in fifteen main stage productions including Othello, Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra, Measure For Measure, Private Lives, and Arms and the Man. Directing credits include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Winnie the Pooh, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Anything Goes for Lakeland Community Theater, and the workshop of David Lee’s Kafka’s Shorts at the Harriet Lake Festival of New Plays. Mad Cow audiences may remember Timothy from his recent work as Director of The Understudy, the Assistant Director of The Heiress, and as a performer in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf. BRANDON ALLEN WOOD* (Gabe Goodman) was born and raised in Orlando Florida and began performing at an early age, competing in regional competitions for gymnastics, which lead him to the AAU Junior Olympics. Later he studied musical theater at Florida School of the Arts. Favorite credits include: Cirque de la mer- San Diego (Acrobat), Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue Show (Wolfie), High School Musical 3 (Singer), The Rocky Picture Horror Show (Male Swing), Wizarding World of Harry Potter (Singer) Big River (Huck Finn), You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown (Snoopy), Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines (Singer), Les Folies Bergere of Las Vegas (Acro-Dancer), Altar Boyz (Mark) and Pirates Dinner Adventure (Benjamin). ABOUT LEE HALL George Orwell in The Road to Wigan Pier wrote this about miners: “In a way it is even humiliating to watch coal miners working. It raises in you a momentary doubt about your own status as an ‘intellectual’ and a superior person generally. For it is brought home to you, at least while you are watching, that it is only because miners sweat their guts out that superior persons can remain superior. All of us really owe the comparative decency of our lives to poor drudges underground, blackened to their eyes, with their throats full of coal dust, driving their shovels forward with arms and belly muscles of steel.” Orwell wrote from the perspective of an upper middle-class man. Lee Hall, playwright, is from a Newcastle, working-class background, and much of his work is about celebrating the complexities of what that means today. “The older I get, the more interested I am in exploring in the richness of working-class culture. It is a culture that is sophisticated, and as varied, as any other culture. In my Play The Pitmen Painters I wanted to show how, between the two world wars, that there was a great hunger for education and betterment. “ Lee grew up in a working-class, but not particularly political, family. His father was a self employed painter and decorator, while his mother was a housewife. “I was lucky that at my school I had scores of inspirational teachers , who had come through the 60s, and helped politicise me. They introduced me to poetry, drama and art. I am still friends with them today.” Newcastle has a history as an industrial and trade union heartland. Growing up in the 70s and 80s, Lee was aware of this heritage, as well as of the politics going on around him. “It was only after University that I put everything together and I take the best of both worlds into my work.” He went to Cambridge University, a big jump for a young working-class man, where he encountered the upper class for the first time. “They didn’t have a clue about what ordinary people thought or did. In his work Lee has explored many issues relating to the lives of working-class people. “I write about the people I grew up with, my dad, other people’s dads and grandfathers. I think that they were sophisticated emotionally and intellectually, quite well read. Being hard blokes in rough manual jobs didn’t make them onedimensional.” In works such as Billy Elliot, The Pitmen Painters and now Close the Coalhouse Door he has told the history of the role that the miners, their union and their community has played in his country. And shown how we are impoverished by its destruction. “The Miners Strike in 1984-5 and the closure programme was an act of political and cultural vandalism in smashing up organised labour in a very deliberate way. What is happening now is from the seeds of 25 years ago.”

THE PITMEN PAINTERS JOHN BATEMAN (Harry) is thrilled to making a return to Mad Cow Theatre as Harry Wilson. He has been active in Orlando theatre for several years. Some of his favorite roles include Shane in Take Me Out, Michal in The Pillowman, and Noah in The Rainmaker at Mad Cow. John was most recently seen as Mr. No Bones in the Fringe hit Dog Powered Robot and the History of the Future and reprised the role in Dog Powered Robot and the Subsequent Adventure. He would like to dedicate his performance to artists everywhere. BOBBIE BELL (Director) is especially grateful to join the herd with a play whose message is so close to his heart, a production team and cast whose talents are without equal, and to have his son Mike at his side assisting with the artworks and other aspects of directing this production. An Orlando based writer, director, actor, composer, and teacher, Bobbie’s previous directing credits at Mad Cow include: The Year of Magical Thinking, The Caretaker, and A Delicate Balance. He has also performed with the herd in Dancing at Lughnasa, Macbeth, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Major Barbara, Life is a Dream, and The Fantasticks. He is twice winner of the Florida Playwrights Competition for his plays: Pascua De Flores and Of: a Play of Artemis. TREVIN COOPER (The Young Lad/Ben Nicholson) serves as a production intern at Mad Cow Theatre. He last appeared at Mad Cow as Freddie Eynsford-Hill in My Fair Lady. Previous credits include Don Quixote/Cervantes in Man of La Mancha, Dysart in Equus, The Narrator/Mysterious Man in Into the Woods. Trevin holds a BA in Theatre from Rollins College. A Masters in Theatre History and Dramatic Criticism from The University of Oklahoma and will complete his MFA in Acting at The University of Central Florida in May of 2013. GLENN GOVER (Jimmy) is happy to be onstage at Mad Cow for the first time. Glenn was nominated for Best Actor in a Musical in the BroadwayWorld.com Florida awards for his portrayal of Sancho in freeFall Theatre’s Man of LaMancha, for which he made Creative Loafing Tampa’s Top Ten Performances of 2011 list. He received the Jeff Norton Award for Best Supporting Actor for Gorilla Theatre playing multiple colorful characters in Shipwrecked! An Entertainment. Glenn was also seen at Gorilla in The Woman in Black, at Stageworks in Shining City and with Orlando Theatre Project in An Empty Plate at the Cafe du Grand Beouf. Originally from Maryland, Glenn studied at the Actors Conservatory and originated the title role in Pendragon at Smithsonian’s Discovery Theatre. LEE HALL (Playwright) was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1966. He studied English Literature at Cambridge University and has worked as a writer in theatre, TV, radio and film. THE PITMEN PAINTERS TOMMY KEESLING (Robert) has appeared in several Mad Cow productions in recent seasons, including roles in Arcadia, Our Town, The Constant Wife, Present Laughter, The Seagull, Pericles, I Have Before Me a Remarkable Document Given to Me by a Young Lady From Rwanda, Eurydice, Amadeus, The Matchmaker, She Stoops to Conquer, and most recently in last season’s Rashomon. He has appeared at many other Central Florida stages in past years, including Bach at Leipzig for Empty Spaces, The Pillowman for Hubris Theatre, and Take Me Out at Theatre Downtown. He performed at the 2010 Fringe Festival in Peg O’Keef Fixes the World, and has appeared in other staged readings for Mad Cow, Orlando Shakespeare Theatre’s PlayFest and Women Playwrights’ Initiative. MEGHAN KENNEDY (Stage Manager) is stage managing for her first time at Mad Cow, and she couldn’t be more delighted to work with such a talented company. She recently moved back to Orlando after spending the last five years in Los Angeles. Her LA stage managing credits include: HAIR and Hedwig and the Angry Inch at The Met Theatre, Return: The Musical at Edgemar Center for the Arts, Pope Joan: The Musical at The Stella Adler Theatre, Noises Off!, Great Expectations, and The Playboy of the Western World at A Noise Within. Meghan received a BA in Theatre from Rollins College. She would like to thank Drew, her family and friends for their constant love and support. MARK LAINER (Oliver) is mooved to be back, having been Judge Brack in Hedda Gabler and Col. Pickering in Mad Cow/Orlando Philharmonic’s My Fair Lady. He’s performed LA, NYC and Massachusetts. He improvised in New York and Orlando, at Pleasure Island’s Comedy Warehouse and SAK, and performs for Universal. He works frequently at Orlando Shakes. TV credits include a recurring role on the syndicated series The Cape, a featured role in HBO’s From the Earth to the Moon and recent appearances on Bones, Burn Notice and The Glades. He’s starred in TV commercials and many award winning short and independent films, recently starring in Rain, Sleet or Snow produced by the Savannah College of Art and Design. He and his wife, Linda Landry, live in Crittertown. ERIN MINER (Lighting Design) The Pitmen Painters marks Erin’s 60th show with Mad Cow Theatre. She is excited to be working with Bobbie again! When not at Mad Cow, she can be found in the fields of Apopka High School as a drama teacher. STEVEN RICKER (Scenic Design) is thrilled to be involved with his second production at MAD COW, having designed Hedda Gabler earlier this year. THE PITMEN PAINTERS AMANDA SCHLACHTER (Helen Sutherland) is thrilled to be making her debut performance with Mad Cow. Amanda has performed with a variety of companies including The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, The OrlandoU.C.F Shakespeare Theatre, The gg Monologues, Florida Studio Theatre, The Gorilla Theatre, Sarasota Actor’s Workshop, and a national tour of The Day I Opened My Eyes. Amanda’s training includes an A.S. from The American Academy of Dramatic Arts where she was a member of their 1996-97 Professional Company, a B.F.A from The University of Central Florida and completion of The Orlando-U.C.F’s Shakespeare Theatre’s internship program in 2006. Amanda has recently been awarded a Fellowship with The University of Florida, where she will pursue her M.F.A in acting. She works at Disney World & has performed in Dream Along with Mickey and various parades. She has also performed at Universal Studios, the Nickelodeon Hotel & Disney Live. Carly has been seen in A Nutty Nutcracker Christmas’ at the Orlando REP as Mother and Toy in Ballet, The 25th Annual Putnum County Spelling Bee as Logainne, Urinetown as Hope, Little Women as Meg, As You Like It as Celia, Smile as Doria, and God Still Dreams of Eden as Minerva. Carly thanks God, her family & friends for their love & support. MARK EDWARD SMITH (George) was most recently on stage in the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra staging of Carousel. He has been seen in over a dozen Mad Cow shows, starting with our inaugural season staging of Blithe Spirit and most recently with last season’s acclaimed engagements of Circle Mirror Transformation and Rashomon. Mark has had the privilege of working with Theatre Downtown, Civic Theatre, Empty Spaces, Bay Street Players, Manhattan South, Osceola Players, Orlando Opera, C FL Light Opera, The Ice House, and Seminole State. He has also performed at Citrus Bowl half-time shows, state fairs, and shopping mall grand openings. And a theme park. KURT WAGNER (Sound Design) has designed many Mad Cow productions over the years including Next Fall, Superior Donuts, Topdog/Underdog, The Lion In Winter, The Matchmaker, I Am My Own Wife, Amadeus, Eurydice, Sweeney Todd, Assassins, I Have Before Me A Remarkable Document Given To Me By A Young Lady From Rwanda, The Rainmaker, Talley’s Folly, The Heidi Chronicles, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Seagull, and Kid-Simple. Kurt has been honored with two EMMY nominations and four International Monitor Awards nominations, one of which he won. Kurt currently is teaching as a specialist in the film degree program at Full Sail University. Kurt wishes to thank Mad Cow for providing a welcoming and creative atmosphere for artists and designers to practice their craft through engaging and provocative productions for our community to enjoy. 16
