Home of America’s original eccentric family, the Sycamore household is full of wild and wacky fun in 1930s New York City. Headed up by the wily patriarch Grandpa Vanderhof, this slightly batty clan of snake collectors, ballet dancers, and skyrocket manufacturers is getting ready for the biggest night of the year. Young Alice Sycamore has invited her newfound love Tony Kirby and his parents over for dinner. But when the straight-laced Kirby’s show up on the wrong night, the real fireworks start to fly. art JANUARY 22 — FEBRUARY 21, 2016

a deliciously dark comedy by

Yasmina Reza

Master of dark humor Yasmina Reza creates a searing tale of three seemingly sophisticated friends. Serge has just purchased a peculiar painting for an exorbitant sum of money. However, Serge’s prestigious acquisition is met with confusion and disgust from his longtime friend Marc. The painting is nothing more than a white canvas with white diagonal lines. How could Serge have been deceived into valuing something so silly and juvenile? Another mutual friend Ivan is pulled into the heated exchange that gives way to personal attacks revealing the alarming fragility of the men’s bond. In this Tony Award-winning comedy, Yasmina Reza digs deep under the surface of so-called sophistication to find the root of our attraction to one another. 6 SEASON 19

SEASON 19 9

Living in the Louisiana bayou, big brother Ogun Size is hard-working and independent. Younger brother Oshoosi is just out of prison and aimless. Elegba, Oshoosi’s old prison-mate, is a mysterious complication. Tarell Alvin McCraney weaves symbolism and ritual into a tough yet tender drama investigating what it means to brother and be brothered. Swatches of poetry, music, dance, and West African mythology combine in a contemporary tale that explores the tenuousness of freedom and the need to belong somewhere, to something, to someone.

10 SEASON 19

Somewhere in America, in a typical suburban restaurant on a typical night, Sam and Nicole first meet. Sparks fly. And so begins an expansive tale that traverses five generations of a modern family, from first kiss to final goodbye. A stunning, big-hearted play that spans nearly eighty years in roughly ninety minutes, The Big Meal tells the extraordinary story of an ordinary family. Dan LeFranc’s new American play is as much an exhilarating challenge to theatrical structure and storytelling as it is a sincere portrayal of the family at its heart.
