Instructors Cynthia Beckert has been a professional performer for over 25 years. She began her career as a dancer, studying classical and contemporary ballet, jazz, modern, Middle Eastern, folk, and musical theatre. Her passion for Shakespeare led her to explore period medieval and Renaissance dance styles and postures, and to explore the biomechanics of movement throughout different theatrical eras. Combining her training as a classical singer and stage actress, Cynthia encourages an integrated awareness of breath, movement, posture and voice, offering simple but powerful physical tools to empower the speaker to express her fullest self. Cynthia has a BA in Music from The University of the South, Sewanee, an MA in Theatre from Florida State University, and an MFA in Acting from The University of California, Irvine. For 10 years she worked with the all-female Los Angeles Women’s Shakespeare Company, performing male roles in classical plays, and teaching movement workshops in theatrical gender-crossing and period dance. Lauren O’Quinn is an award-winning actress, director, and teacher. She majored in theatre at the University of Georgia and moved to Orlando in 1997. Since that time, she has appeared in over 200 national and regional commercials, and numerous films, television shows, and plays. Recent credits include Nashville (with Connie Britton), The Florida Project (with Willem Dafoe), House of Cards (with Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright), Bloodline (with Sissy Spacek), national commercials for Allegiant Airlines, Tires Plus, and on-going television appearances as the host of ION Kitchen on ION Television. She has been teaching advanced Meisner-based acting classes since 2002 and is a former talent agent and a freelance casting director who currently serves on the Executive Board of Film Florida. Her specialty is training actors in deep emotional access and the ability to live truthfully under imaginary circumstances, all while building their confidence and encouraging them to embrace their own unique essence.
