Mad Cow Theatre Mad Cow Theatre now in our 22nd season, is downtown Orlando’s destination for professional theatre. MCT was founded on the belief that the theatre is a dynamic and powerful means of social understanding, as well as a hugely entertaining art form. Through the combination of passionate, skillful acting and compelling, insightful writing, nurtured by an attentive and ever-changing process, Mad Cow presents entertaining works of theatre to an ever-widening audience — promoting, enhancing, and celebrating the human condition through art. With a passion for both classic and contemporary plays representing the best of American and world literature,

MCT is committed to story-telling with no boundary, to a wide range of audiences. MCT attracts the area’s most talented performers, designers, and directors. A mainstay of the company is its dedication to the process of creating theatre, incorporating in-depth rehearsal, and research periods along with a nurturing collaborative process. Music and Book by James Valcq | Lyrics and Book by Fred Alley Based on the Film by Lee David Zlotoff FRED ALLEY (1962–2001) was an American musical-theatre lyricist and librettist, who died unexpectedly just as his work gained national recognition. His collaboration on the musical The Spitfire Grill with composer James Valcq won the American Academy of Arts and Letters’ prestigious Richard Rodgers Production Award for 2001. Premiered at the George Street Playhouse in New Jersey and produced off-Broadway by Playwrights Horizons, it received best musical nominations from the Outer Critics Circle and Drama League, as well as two Drama Desk nominations.

JAMES VALCQ is an American musical-theatre composer, lyricist, and librettist, as well as an actor and arts administrator. His musical The Spitfire Grill won the Richard Rodgers Production Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. LEE DAVID ZLOTOFF is a producer, director and screenwriter best known as the creator of the TV series MacGyver and producer of the TV series The Man from Snowy River.


The Spitfire Grill JASON BLACKWATER (Caleb Thorpe) is delighted to make his Mad Cow debut! He graduated with a Bachelor Arts Degree from East 15 Acting School in London, England. Arriving in 2016, his recent highlights include Big Davey in Billy Elliot (Garden Theatre), Mean Mr.Mustard in Beat Bugs and Mr Greenway in Elf! (Orlando Rep) Dominic in Qualia (Be Original Festival), Macbeth in Shakespeare and The Zombie Plague Of 1590 (Orlando Shakes). For his favourite one, Megan. @jblackwater

Choice Award: Best Female Performance. She studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and has numerous Film and TV credits. ASHLEY FAULKNER (Stage Manager) is a senior in the BA theatre studies program at the University of Central Florida. Her most recent (and favorite) credits include stage-managing UCF Dance Concert: Diversity in Dance and First Miss for UCF Celebrates the Arts. This is her first time at Mad Cow, and she has enjoyed working with all of these talented professionals.

LISA BUCK (Properties Master) Set designs include The Road to Mecca, Mrs. Warren’s Profession, Painting Churches, Boesman and Lena (Mad Cow), Don Pasquale, Abduction from the Seraglio, and Carmina Burana (Orlando Opera), Madama Butterfly, II Barbiere di Siviglia, Tosca, The Magic Flute (Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra) and The Tender Land (UCF). Lisa studied painting at Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute, and Cobalt Studios. She has won numerous awards for her painting and has written how-to- paint articles for North Light Publications.

BRIAN GEORGE (Eli) is an active performing musician in the Central Florida area. Since graduating from Rollins College with a concentration in jazz guitar Music Performance Bachelor’s Degree, he has pursued a diverse variety of gigs. Brian has led or performed with music groups of almost any genre, as well as, performed as a sideman for dance shows, television and musical theatre. He is excited for his Mad Cow Theatre debut. BRITTANY HALEN (Shelby Thorpe) is ecstatic to return to Mad Cow after having played Reza in Once.

LEESA CASTANEDA (Effy) has worked with Theatre Downtown, Greater Orlando Actors Theatre, Orlando Shakespeare Theater, Empty Spaces Theatre and others. Favorite roles include: Camilla – In The Heights and Diana – Next To Normal. Leesa also wrote/performed a one-woman show, La Reina Yolanda, winning the 2017 Orlando Fringe Festival Critics’

directing program at the Yale University School of Drama. GAVIN MOSIER (Scenic Designer) is a designer of theatre and immersive environments. This is his first production at Mad Cow. He received a bachelor of science degree in scenic design from Ball State University. When not designing for theatre, Gavin works for Disney Parks Live Entertainment.

KAT HENWOOD (Costume Designer) is excited to be taking part in her first production with Mad Cow Theatre after moving to Orlando from Seattle, WA. Some of her favorite productions include The White Snake with ReAct Theater, The Little Mermaid with Windermere Preparatory School and Pippi Longstockings with Bellevue Youth Theatre. Kat was also loves appearing on stage and was a proud member of The Salvation Army Western Territory Creative Arts Ensemble from 20142018. She looks forward to many, many, more productions with Mad Cow in the future.

SEAN POWELL (Sheriff Joe Sutter) is blessed to be back at Mad Cow after having appeared in Once. Favorite roles include Woody Guthrie in American Song; Johnny Cash in Ring of Fire; Emmett in Legally Blonde; Britt Craig in Parade; Not Dead Fred, Herbert, and others in Spamalot; Motel in Fiddler on the Roof; and Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors. A 2019 Carbonell Award winner, Sean is pursuing an MFA in actor musicianship at Rose Bruford College in London.

JAC LEDOUX (Hannah Ferguson) last appeared at Mad Cow in 1776. She has performed for more than 40 years and has played Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Grandma in Billy Elliot, and most recently Juanita in Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. Over the past few years she also has directed for Playwrights Round Table.

KARI RINGER (Percy Talbott) is making her Mad Cow debut. Recent favorite roles include Eva (understudy) in Evita, Ginger in I Love a Piano, Annette in God of Carnage (Annette), and parts in various Orlando Fringe productions. She plays Lucy Ricardo on the streets of Hollywood at Universal Orlando Resort. Love to Casey, family, Actors’ Equity Association, and the Mad Cow crew.

DAVID LEE (Director) is thrilled to return to Mad Cow, where he directed and designed Far Away, The Shape of Things, and A Number. His musical Nirvanov has been performed in several cities across the country. He received the Orlando International Fringe Festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award and is a graduate of the MFA

He has worked as musical director since 1992 at Theatre Winter Haven, the IceHouse Theatre, Riverside Theatre, Central Florida Community College, the Orlando Gay Chorus, and the American School of Kuwait. The spring will bring Urinetown at UCF. Many thanks to Mitzi for this opportunity. ALEXANDER WHITTENBERG (Set Designer) is a designer of theatre, film and environments. Previous Mad Cow designs include the settings for Constellations, The God Game and Skylight. He spends his days working as the props master at the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular and in the art department of Home Shopping Network. Education: BFA in scenography, State University of New York at Purchase.
